I visited Zia Records back in Autumn of 2021 when I visited Phoenix and I was stoked to find so many great titles for low prices! Not only that but they sell instruments, shirts, nick-nacks and lots of other awesome stuff! Super friendly staff, awesome to chat with! Well informed on the local scene too and they gave me some tips on where to see some local bands play! Thanks to Zia, I had a great time in Phoenix! Although I was they had some JFA CDs! :p

As an artist/musician/collector/gamer, I must say Zia is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!!!! Buy, sell, or trade through store credit in order to re-live past historical moments in music, gaming, movies, comics, action figure collectables, clothing, shoes, accessories, and more!!! It's a HUGE store with so much to offer!!! Once you walk through those doors trust me, you will be thankful you did. And don't forget to buy a Zia Records shirt while you are there to show support for the cause!!! I own 4 at the moment.

So happy to live within walking distance of a Zia. They always have a great selection, and the staff are super helpful and easy to talk to. My only suggestion, though, is that since I normally go shopping in the clothing section, it would be great if there was a fitting room or at least a mirror for me to make a better decision about what I'm buying before I buy it.

This place was absolutely amazing. Just thumbing through the records brought back a lot of memories. I bought 5 albums because I owned four of them back in the day. Truly a good place to fulfill your nostalgia. Definitely plan to return!

This is my new favorite go-to spot for all my collectible and music finding needs! Never expected to find a huge selection of movies and anime paraffinalia, much less a whole trading card box (at 25 cents a pop!) Didn't find the CD I was looking for when I arrived, but found and left with way more stuff I wasn't anticipating and struggled to find at other second hand shops. Definitely coming back for more

This quirky neighborhood store is a hidden gem. Great deals, and always getting new merchandise in. Friendly staff is a plus too. Its central location in town makes it very appealing and the deals inside make it worth your trip. Be prepared to do a bit of looking around, even though its very organized.

Zia Records...shmecords, this uniquely cool store needs to be renamed to Zia's Fun Shop. Hey I know they used be an actual record shop and they still buy, trade and sell all physical music formats but man they have so much more than just music! Looking for a vintage concert tee...they got it! Looking for a unique, weird, yet cool collectible/gift...yep, they got it! Looking for something dull and boring...you won't find that here! I love this store!

Great place to drop in and either purchase or trade in any type of media! Vinyl, cassette, VHS, dvd, BluRay, video games, everything!!! Lots of cool memorabilia too. And if they don’t have it here, they might have it at another Zia location! The music that plays inside is always good too.

For a corporate record store, it's sufficient. Now that they backed off the mask policy, I might go record hunting with my daughters once again. The last experience was a pleasant one, though there have been previous visits when the mask policy was in place that made the experience not enjoyable and frankly, the antithesis of what a record store experience should be about.

Great alternative place to find new and used movies, blu-ray, cds, vinyls, video games, board games, books, random knicknacks like cups, socks, wallets, lanyards, hats, clothes, etc. They accept all of the above for trade credit or cash back as well, just like Bookmans; trade credit is always higher. On the bottom of every receipt from purchases or trades you recieve a coupon for 10% off any item in the store (I believe not on discounted merchandise). To redeem, simply go on their website listed, let them know how your experience was, and write down the code on the receipt! Friendly associates avaliable whwnever to help you find what you're looking for. I would recommend to anyone!

Love ZIA records, no matter where it is, but the Tempe location (maybe bc it's near the college) seems more 'picked over' than their location on Camelback (which is the location I prefer), but the staff in Tempe is friendly and helpful. Besides having plenty of CDs and some cassettes, an additional thing I prefer about ZIA is they display these items in a way that is easy to see. Other record stores around the Valley, show the CD spine only, left to right, with shelves that can be hard to reach/see... or, front to back like Vinyl, I much prefer skimming ZIA's top to bottom CD stacking.

They have a lot of comics, many MTG, POKEMAN, YU-GI-OH cards. Some used electronics pretty nice & pre-owned stereo equipment. I sell them games, movies, music(cd, DVD, VHS, cassettes & occasionally electronics). Buying there is great on prices but selling there, umm, well if you need a couple dollars for a little gas or a little food, is great. But if you are trying to make over $10.00 cash, you will have to bring a crate or 2 full of not scratched, no broken or missing cases, current pop or R&B music.

Marked as a record shop, this place has so many more things to offer, including pop culture merch, toys, novelties and some nostalgic used goods! The variety of their stock is completely astounding, and I feel like I could browse for hours on end! I know I did. Also, I particularly love the humor in their labeling system. Definitely the sort of people that are passionate about their trade!

I love Zia. This is the friendliest, best stocked, and best discount Zia that I have been to. Since it is in a nice area in Tempe, you can look hip/punk Rock/ hip hop, and feel at home both in and outside of the store. There's a Fry's across the street, Venezia's Pizzeria, Burger King, and much much more, which I won't mention because of which, I will not promote. It is also just a short drive north, to downtown Tempe, Mill Ave and University, beautiful city, mountains, and female scenery. Anyway, that is neither here nor there. Have fun you crazy kids.

ZIA is one of my favorite stores. I have been going to this location since the early 90's when they were on University! The best thing about this place is they take special care to ensure that all of the items they take in are in perfect condition! This way you never have to worry if the item your buying is worth buying. If there is anything wrong or say the item does not include the box, they are very up front about it and write it on the tag. There is no need to ask. You have to love a store that is up front and honest with you! Let's not leave out that if you don't get a bag for the items you purchased, they allow you to donate the cost to a worthy organization! What could be more perfect! The selections are great and change on a day-by-day basis, the staff is very nice, and the store is clean! Will always come back over and over again!

Zia is cool, it offers an escape from the corporate Walmart and Target represses, surprises you with unique finds, but overall lacks a complete collection for every genre you could imagine. They could use a broader and more interpersonal selection of records. I love checking out comics and merch too, but prices are hit or miss all around. All that being said, I got a Zia slip mat, tons of great comics and will never turn down a Zia dig.

This place rocks! Allocations are awesome. They bought a Wii system from me for thirty bucks. They have a lot of people trying to make sales so try to call ahead and make sure that they are interested in your product and also plan to drop your stuff off and come back a few hours later. Also they don't let you know what their offer is over the phone even when you have drop things off hours prior. You have to come back either way to pick up your stuff or your money so it's really not as big of a deal as it sounds like.

Huge selection of new and used goods! Great for all who like art, music, toys, collectibles, videos games and more! Nice and friendly staff. A couple of major downsides. First huge store hours of looking and no public bathrooms. Second they are very disorganized on there pricing. One game is 19.00 and the very same game next to it is 7.00. They do not price used items well. I think they do a lot of guessing on the value. Over all it’s a great place.

I love this Zia. I've been to all of the locations including Tucson and both Vegas locations and this is my favorite one. (They are all great though) The selection is great for everything. I've probably spent thousands of dollars here over the years. The first Zia I ever went to was the old location off University and I miss the old school record store vibes, but this location is just better in every way

This is a place I could spend hours in. It's not hard to find oneself traipsing through the aisles gorging on all manners of pop culture from anime, to vinyl, to horror, and to the one off humor products galore. They even have some amplifiers and musical equipment tucked way amidst the records. The selection of vinyl treasure is massive, including new titles as well as many archaic and old school records. They have a lot of video games, T shirts, fancy flair-laden socks, and shelf after shelf of movies, masks, manga, books, board games, etcetera et cetera.... And the staff is straightforward, friendly and glad to help. I was looking for a vinyl EP of The Specials' "Ghost Town", and the clerk searched through their database and found one of the European releases. I would say this, some of the stuff in the store is not kid friendly, some of the humor is a bit blue, so keep that in mind - as is the tradition around some vinyl records and such. I had my kids with me and they were fine, but I had to be mindful :) Most of the stuff in the store is <PG. If you haven't been here yet you need to visit as it's one of the most interesting characters to dot the Phoenix metro landscape.

Awesome experience. The manager really cares about his customers. Purchased a game (that ended up being smashed in on one side that I hadn't noticed)at another location. I was able to replace it at this location. The store is well organized, great staff, wide selection. I would highly recommend this Zia location. Cool store for Funko pop collectors! Always got some cool funkos and occasionally a nice grail but… would not recommend selling funkos to them as they tend to really low ball u, if you do decide to sell to them expect to get less than half of the current ppg for it. The employees also are not Funko pop experts and tend to call real Funko pops fake… this isn’t their fault as they are not Funko pop experts… but they almost got a $200 Funko pop off me for $15 cause they had convinced me he was fake when in reality he was 100% authentic… 5 stars for overall store but 2 stars for the selling aspect of it all.

Employees are friendly and a good vibe for sure. Clean shop overall and the browsing experience is great for the actual media (vinyl, etc.) with quite competitive prices. Be warned their prices are pretty astronomical on all the used electronics and audio equpment though. Wouldn't buy a new or used turntable or speakers from them, much better off doing your research and buying online or Craigslist etc.

Haven't been out much except for RSD at another shop. I was on a Linda Ronstadt binge and Zias didn't disappoint. She's covered so many genres, I spent time in all areas of the shop. Didn't find any Stone Poneys, but was able to find Trio and some of her bigger sellers. Randy Newman, Emmylou Harris picked up and some Circle Jerks in the recent bin. Was sort of looking for Nightwish but blew the day's budget on a George Harrison album and didn't spend much more time than 90 minutes. It was fun to see all the people flipping through titles!

There is a pretty large variety of vinyl records, cds, movies(new and old), and books! Guaranteed you'll find something you like.

I have been going to the ZIA in Tucson for 5 years but since I've moved to Phoenix, I find myself driving from Glendale to Tempe at least once a week just to go to this location. They have a great Metal section and I can always find a few hidden treasures among their sale bins. The store manager Brianna is very helpful and Paige who works the trade counter is very nice and friendly and quick to finish my trade-ins (even when I bring a large bunch of CDs). Definitely the best of the ZIA locations in the Valley.

I love this particular Zia. It is absolutely HUGE, and is full of wonderful items. They have records, CDs, DVDs, knickknacks, kitchenware, some clothing, purses, backpacks, books, candy, EVERYTHING you can imagine ?!! The employees are always friendly. The building is clean. I know that there are other Zia’s in town to visit, but I always come to this one because it’s perfect, really. When I have visitors in town, I always take them here. If I am looking for a quick gift for someone, I always stop here. If I am taking someone young (step kids, nieces, nephews) somewhere to find a fun item, as a “treat” I bring them here. There’s something in this building for pretty much everyone.

Love your stores but whenever I visit this location, I just get overwhelmed. Was here during the craze of black friday and you had a live DJ and it was a little much. And it's pretty crowded most of the time. Workers are still great and still love the store but a little "young" for me. Other than that I love the deals you have, places you help out and how much Zia encourages donations and exchanges. Grateful for all you do in the community!!

Review written after purchase of several CDs and a gift card. Store has huge selection of music on CD and vinyl, as well as movies, merchandise, candy, drinks, etc. Staff are helpful and friendly. Masks required (with sign posted), and all staff I saw adhered to the guideline. There was a manufacturing issue with one new-in-package CD I bought, and both the employee and manager with whom I spoke were courteous and provided a very satisfactory resolution to the problem.

Good variety of vintage stuff somewhat over-priced, not the best place to exchange things but not too many places are these days, they always will try low balling you or won't take stuff you'd think was good but either they have too much of it or its not hip for their customers. I give it 4 stars because the place does serve a purpose but its slowly becoming obsolete unless you need it tonight, which they do serve that purpose and they'll adapt I'm sure because people still like going to the store but they need something to pull you in if your outside the college age crowd, too many other options. Employees are always super cool to this 40's something, fill you in on what's hip these days, and its always a good way to remind yourself how far removed you actually are from college but it reminds you to smile and laugh, other places don't always seem that way, Goodwill for example. If you have the need, or advice for gifts for youngsters, by all means go there.

So I've got comic books all over my walls now because of Zia's. They have a pretty insane collection of comic books especially my favorites from the 90s. Most of them range from 99 cents to a dollar 99. I usually spend 10 to 15 bucks in this place every time I add some new comic book memorabilia to my room. Not only do they have comics but they also have action figures and DVDs anime DVDs they have musical instruments photography equipment turntables vinyl clothing all kinds of awesome awesome stuff I highly recommend this place.

I personally loved this ZIA, very upbeat, dug the dancing Santa Claus in the front; welcoming all the customer's in. The DO was super cool. The staff was very friendly and more than willing to assist. The selection was great, prices can't beat, so would and will definitely recommend and will be returning.

The staff is cool and nice, it's a cool place to wander through for a few hours because there is so much stuff to look through.

I was in Phoenix area for business with time to kill and with stores like Best Buy and Walmart not carrying much of a selection for CD's I googled music stores and found Zia Records. Zia has always been a fun treasure trove for me and my friends to check out. Typically I'll start in the video game section, wander over to the music and music gear section, and then pick through the cheap shirts if I'm up for more. Their staff is always down to earth and really willing to help with anything, and are up for a good and nerdy chat as well. They change out their displays quite frequently, so it's worth stopping in often to see how things move around. Additionally, they are one of the few interesting stores you can visit all the way up until midnight, so it's a great spot to hit when you are bored with your friends for sure! They also take quite a lot of different stuff in on trade-ins. Support a well-loved local business and check out Zia whenever you can.

Video games, Anime/Manga, geeky things, and of course, all the music, makes this a really cool store to find just about anything your nerdy little heart could desire. Zia is a great place to find records, music and some electronics. They have odds and ends like books, game systems and some hard to find items like collectibles and toys. Many employees work here but none seem interested in really helping you unless you specifically ask them. You can also sell items but they'll usually give you half of the worth or less. So unless you got a great price or good a vintage rare album it's a tough sell. Fun little place to visit.

I moved from Albuquerque, New Mexico to Phoenix, Arizona in 1989. I went shopping to my first Zia Records store on Mill Avenue near Fifth Street in Tempe in 1990 before they moved the location to Mill Ave and Southern Ave. I have been a big fan and shopper for 32 years. I have been to all of the locations but my heart goes to the location in Tempe. Don’t get me wrong, all of the locations are great (Camelback, Chandler, Thunderbird and Mesa). I am a loyal customer and earned the respect with the manager and the employees at the Mill Ave location. Any time I walk into the store I am greeted with a friendly smile at the front door. My list had started very long, page after page. I was able to complete my list with new and used CD’s and DVD’s. Not to mention the great prices they offer. My favorite is, buy 3 and get one free. If I couldn’t find an item in the store, the manager and employees would try to find the item at a different location or try and special order the item for me. My list is down to a half a page but that is not going to stop me from shopping at Zia Records. I have built a special bond with the manager and employees at the Tempe location, that make it so much fun to shop there. I gives me the opportunity to talk and laugh with them. I have family and friends shopping at Zia Records now, whether it is stopping at one of their locations or shopping online. I do not shop online for music or movies. It gives me a reason to go to Zia Records. If I could live there, trust me, I would. I think, I have said enough. I just wanted to share my story and history with Zia Records and to also say Thank you for the GREAT customer service they have given me for so many years. I love my Zia Records!

The staff is really pleasant and this place is amazing to find so many great things, great place for collectors. I’d rate this one a five out of five it it weren’t for a certain manager there. Recently she gave my fiancé hell and trying to not give him the right game. And then tonight I got a blue ray that was labeled 12.99 on it twice still got charged the 15.99. In other retail places you have to honor the price or you could get in trouble so the manager at that location really shouldn’t be there....but you know all of the other associates are awesome. If they had better management I’d give it a five!!!

Zia is a very fun, well-made record store. It has frequent sales, fair prices, and great used items, as well. Its location is perfect too - next to Dutch Brothers, Fry's, and the Fry's marketplace shops, it's perfect to visit if you've got a bit of extra time to kill. Zia stocks a lot of merchandise surrounding movies and games, comic books, figurines, records, CDs, even cassettes and some musical instruments. Their staff is generally friendly and well-trained, and they've established some great policies over the years.

Love it. Always have. Great place for used clothing more specific to your tastes rather than fishing through goodwill. They also have new clothing and accessories like hot topic or Spencer does. Zia is one of our favorite places to wander around and find things we didn't know we needed! They have collectibles, movies, music, books...so much to see! We could spend hours in Zia. It's a great place to go for gifts, whether it's for someone you know well or not, you'll find something for them at Zia! They also have a great reward program and a trade in program. If you go, don't get a bag for your goods! Ask for no bag and a puzzle piece as the puzzle piece translates to a donation toward a local charity!

This Zia location has the best staff and the best variety. I've gone to two other locations and they do not compare. I am an avid collector of TV series and they have it all. I've successfully collected entire series to several shows. You can go in there with the intentions of finding someone a birthday gift and you will come out with that and more. They have a vast collection of music and fan memorabilia. Go there now if you're bored and want to be entertained for hours and not even need to buy anything.

I love ZIA records and the Mill avenue location is huge! I'm used to my local ZIA in Tucson that's much smaller. Sometimes it's almost too big and I'm overwhelmed by the selection. Two quick notes - I wish the records would have been split to separate New/Used sections. Looking through 30 new albums of Queen to find one used one is a little bit of a pain. Second - prices have gone up a lot. I get it - it's a trend. But there are barely anymore $3-$5 decent albums. Otherwise - you should check it out.

Disappointed with my recent visit compared to last few years. Seemed they were making excuses why they couldn't give me anything or just a nickel each for most of my 25 CDs-- ended up with a $6 store credit because they already had several copies of some CDs and wouldn't take the others because they wont sell. This store has such a wealth of amazing items! As a millenial, I still remember the joy of my parents playing their vinyl record collection. It is awesome that you can go here an get a blast from the past feeling and purchase anything from vinyl to cd to dvd to vhs to video games to books to collectible toys and gag gifts. My husband, my two kids and I spend hours in this place and EVERYONE is helpful!

I've been going to Zia records ever since I discovered my live for music, and they were a tiny little shop on Mill Ave and University. Now they sell records, CDs, accessories for phones, game systems, PC, etc, toys, collectibles, clothes, music equipment, etc. They have fast and friendly service, and still maintain that groovy laid-back feel I've come to appreciate over the years!

I mean, its good for movies, records and books- the prices are not too bad and they've got a vast selection of choices. The only downside is that a majority of the staff are twenty something year old hipsters who most likely never had a job in customer service. The younger guy with the thinning beard who always has on a beanie is deliberately rude and condescending. The older staff members are actually really helpful and talkative.
