My boyfriend Randy bought me a record player for Christmas. I was so excited to buy more records, and was happy to find Asylum Records online. As Randy and I walked in, we were immediately impressed with the selection and cool vibe there. The large selection of rock memorabilia was amazing, especially the KISS and Metallica collection! We had the pleasure of meeting Scott the owner and the adorable Hopper. Scott is amazing! His knowledge and talk of his experience in the rock industry was very interesting and impressive. We really enjoyed the visit and conversation. We felt like we made a new friend. We are excited to come back soon & buy more albums. Definitely recommend this place! Rock on, Scott! 🤘🏻🥁

Really nice record shop. Large selection of new and used vinyl, and it’s well organized and well cared for. Some people like to complain about record store prices, but here I found the pricing to be right in line, which tells me they know what they’re doing. Happy to pay fair prices for a well curated selection. The bins are alphabetized with great care, and separated out by genre, so it’s a great browsing experience as well. Found some Japanese pressings with their obi, some UK pressings, and other quality records mixed throughout. Definitely recommended.

I recently visited Asylum Records and had the pleasure of meeting Joe. He is an absolute gem! He is extremely knowledgeable about all types of music. He was so friendly and welcoming, and he made sure I found exactly what I was looking for. The selection of records was great, but the prices were a bit expensive compared to other stores. Overall, I had a great experience and would highly recommend Joe and Asylum Records to anyone looking for a great selection of music. Five stars!

Nice store. Great vinyl selection, particularly if you like 70s and 80s hard rock and heavy metal. Found albums here I haven’t seen anywhere else outside of eBay and Discogs. Long-haired salesman was friendly, talkative, and knew more about who played with who and who played on what album probably more than any record shop guy I’ve ever talked to. But be prepared for sticker shock. I would’ve walked out with a small handful of original pressing albums on my want list but just couldn’t pay the prices they were asking. Fun store that gets rock and roll. But high priced, for sure. Would be 5-Star otherwise.

Stopped in for the first time and was impressed by the knowledge and friendliness of Scott, the owner. He knows his music (and horror movies). The inventory of the story was also impressive. This is a hidden gem and I will be telling all my friends about this shop!

You'll never see another music store like it. The owner has a real passion for this place and it shows. There is signed memorabilia everywhere, a massive stash of collectibles, and what seems like an endless supply of vintage vinyls. The owner even kept the store open an extra 30 minutes to show me his rare personal collection of Pink Floyd vinyls. I can't wait to go back.

Scott (owner) was so kind. He helped us find what we were looking for, and even preordered an album for us our daughter has been looking for without luck. He was knowledgeable about bands and local music destinations. His shop had TONS of Funko Pops, which my kids loved, and we picked up an old game we had been wanting to find. He has the sweetest shop kitty, Hopper, who accepted ALL the pets. Overall great experience and we will definitely be back.

Visited Asylum today for the first time. What a great store! Vast collection of LP’s, Cd’s and collectables. Owner Scott was friendly and helpful. I found a Who Concert DVD and a rare Chet Baker LP I had been looking for. Check it out sometime.

My first time visiting Asylum was by accident and very happy to have found the store, carried a variety of pop culture items including action figures, mini figures and Funko Pop's. among other unique collectibles. Would encourage you to check it out for yourself, owner is very friendly and the shop is kid friendly :)

I was in the East Valley for work. After going into Asylum, now I wish I lived way over there. The vinyl selection is some of the best in the valley. Some great rarities as well as harder to find newer stuff. HUGE metal and pu nk/new wave sections. They also carry a lot of shirts, patches and pop culture collectibles. The owner was there when I went in. He is extremely helpful, very friendly and also knowledgeable about records and music in general. Highly recommend a stroll into Asylum.

Great recommendation from the owner on a RSD release (it was AWESOME! 🤟🏼) my daughter picked up a great vintage shirt. Great atmosphere. really nice store with a large selection of vinyl and an overwhelming amount of funko pops. i wish i had more time to check everything out. unfortunately i’m not sure if i will be returning. i don’t want to claim to know the owner’s intentions by offering $30 for the 16 vinyl i brought in. i’m really hoping that he, obviously as an avid collector, was with the best intention trying to dissuade me from selling part of my personal collection. otherwise, claiming to only be able to make $90 off 16 vinyl is both shady business practice and downright disrespectful. either way, it sucks as i still need to sell my vinyl to help pay for classes. i just wanted it to go to a fellow collector and small business.

This place is AMAZING! They have everything from the outstanding variety of Funko POP figures, to the huge selection of records, CDs and even tapes! There are celebrities from music to TV to movies that pop in for signings! The owner is a great guy who is very knowledgeable in music so he is quite helpful if you have any questions on what to buy. All in all, this is a fantastic place and I always recommend friends to go there!

My little girl and I have been coming here for years and love it. So many celebrities we have met and got autographs from. The owner is amazing along with his #1 employee/part owner Hopper. Scott (the owner) has been around a long time and knows almost everyone in the business. Great selection of vinyl and pops, has regular signings with musicians and actors, and an encyclopedic knowledge of rock n roll. Store is clean and welcoming, and is my go-to for record store day. Oh, and his store Cat, Hopper, is totally adorable 😍 Definitely recommend a visit!

Whelp, it's Records Store Day. I was looking for a solo artist named Kirk Hammett of Metallica. Album called Portals 12" vinyl. So, I checked out this place. While inside. I guess this kat must have heard me saying something about it. Because, I heard Yo! or meow. I looked down and followed this kat. That led me to all record leases. OMG! I'm guessing wrong about this place. They are truly headbangers. The Metal kat with no tail is a heavy metal headbanger. The guy with long hair over the counter. Looks like he's been headbanger 24/7 too frakin long since 80's. He needs to chill out. I'm surprised he didn't bend his neck out of shape. What lesson I've learned from this. 1) Support our local brink & mortars. 2) Don't be judgemental. 3) Even cats can enjoy Metal music. 🤘😼🤘

My dad came into town and wanted to check this place out and both of us agreed it's the best in the larger Phoenix area. Asylum Records is filled with genuine collectibles, records, and a cat. Scott, the owner, spent years on the road with legendary bands and has countless stories. My dad grabbed a few KISS collectibles and I was able to finally pick up Kirk Hammett's EP. I highly recommend this record store and can't wait to go back.

This is a gem of a record store! Not only was there a great selection of records, there’s a stellar bargain bin - perfect for a new vinyl collector. The owner has an amazing collection of memorabilia and he’s ready to tell the stories behind it. You can tell he’s really knowledgeable, particularly about rock music. Great hidden gem in an otherwise drowning plaza. Owner doesn't list items online to help those who a looking for rare pop culture items but are afraid they'll be gone when they arrive. I'm awful with names and can't remember his but very nice man and really knowledgeable collector. Great selection of Funko, Reaction and various urban vinyl toys. Has cool guest show up like the drummer from the Ramones and Wednesday from The Addams Family show (circa decades ago) . Prices are fair and huge vinyl record collection. My daughter attends Dance school in the plaza and we go in afterwards for a cool toy and good converstaion afterwards. His selection is far more impressive than Zia's if your in search of amazing and rare collectibles.

I love this shop! I’m 42 so I get a really cool nostalgic feeling of how music stores were when I was a kid when I walk in here. I like to bring my sons with me to Asylum to not only share a unique experience with them but to also impress upon them how important it is to support small businesses in our community. The owner Scott is always there when we go and he’s always very kind and welcoming to my kids and I when we are there. I cannot say enough nice things about him and his store, I implore anyone who’s into buying music and collectibles to visit Asylum Records if you have not yet done so.

Great stuff! Since the very first moment my wife and entered the store, the owner was very friendly. I found a Pink Floyd's Dark Side of Moon limited edition record from 1993. I also bought other stuff by Deep Purple, Priest, Andrés Segovia, the great Spanish classical guitarist and ACDC, for a really good price. Definitely, will visit again!

Asylum Records is probably the main reason I became a vinyl junkie again a couple of years ago! If you're a rock music fan, the selection is tough to beat! So much cool memorabilia and collectibles, too! I have yet to see everything, as I tend to get caught up in the entertaining stories and banter with the owner, Scott. He's rock and roll on the outside, big teddy bear heart on the inside! Very fun to talk music with, do yourself a favor and strike up a conversation with the dude. Hopper is the coolest mascat (aka mascot) in town and is always a happy sight. If you love vinyl, give yourself plenty of time on your first visit, as you may get lost digging for hours!

Was told this store only had one or two employees. When I walked into the event it turns out they have several, some volunteers. One of the better stores in the state would recommend. The bald guy is a little weird though, doesn't like when you touch anything especially the pops.

Asylum Records is an awesome record and collectibles shop that, in many ways reminds me of the record shops while growing up in the 80's...with amazing Rock memorabilia decorating a good majority of it. My family and I love spending time finding gems all throughout this store. The experience is made even better with helpful and friendly shop owner, Scott. Great shop with a big selection. Mostly used records and CDs, lots of bands and albums you won't find at more "mainstream" record shops. Punks, metal heads, and classic rock fans will find themselves at home among the very well organized bins and shelves. Tons and tons of collectibles and oddities as far as the eye can see. This shop is almost half-museum of memorabilia, but you can buy all the exhibits. Lots of KISS/Iron Maiden/Motorhead worship going on in here - not a bad thing! The owner is a very cool dude who's quick to talk music and tell stories. Plus there's a cat always hanging out around the shop. Prices are a little higher than average, but they always make sure to get good quality copies of used albums, so you're paying for someone doing the work of filtering out the ugly stuff. Step away from the Zia and check out a true underdog store loaded with soul.

Asylum Records is one of the best independent record stores around. I usually spend at least an hour in there looking at all the cool stuff. Not only do they carry vinyl but pops and collectibles are neaty organized as well as Rock Collectibles. Prices are reasonable and the owner Scott is super nice. Also he has one of the largest RSD sections around and has hard to find older RSD titles. So if you missed out on something chances are he has it. You should stop in and check his store out!

Visiting Phoenix and saw this place on Google. More than pleased with the selection of punk and more classic metal. There's not a lot of extreme metal but I found a couple gems I was looking for in the punk section. Lots of good NOWBHM originals and repressings. Highly recommended!

This is a record collectors record store. Just happened by this after going to another, larger record store and was really impressed by what I consider the essence of what a record store should be. The staff's knowledge of records is second to none and provides the type of help an aspiring record collector needs. The organization is top notch, everything is alphabetical by letter which when searching for less main stream items is much appreciated, you don't have to flip through a 1000 "S" records to find stuff when you can flip to "St" for Cat Stevens, as an example. Prices are going to be a tad higher than other bigger box stores...so what. A few bucks here and there to support a store that caters to niche buyers is well worth it. Great place, going to be there often.

Really enjoyed this gem of a store. Though I didn't buy anything, everything seemed to be a fair price and I was surprised to see imported UK versions of a few albums that I haven't been able to find in person at other bigger name records stores. These guys care about their records and all items in store. Incredibly organized and clean. This isn't your typical record store, so don't think you can go in there and open anything you'd like. I love that in order to check the condition of an album, you have to ask the employees to open the item. 10/10, would come back again. Not trying to bash on another record store that starts with a "Z", but I probably won't even stop there anymore and just head directly to Asylum from now on.

I just found this record store by accident. Joe knows his stuff, uncanny. The owner Scott has history too. Advice: go into the shop and spend a few minutes (or alot) talking about a certain guitarist you like and browse a great selection. There's something in here for everyone but i found the classic rock selection to be as deep and rounded as any in the valley. Legit imports and signed pieces sets it apart. Most definitely at the top of my circuit when I'm searching for a new addition. You may bump into someone too, lol.

I've patronized 7 or 8 record stores in the Phoenix area, but this strip mall-nestled vinyl LP store is definitely a must-see experience, and here's why: a vast selection as well as every level of quality for which any vintage vinyl lover could ask. While every audiophile has their preferred genre, you'd be hard-pressed to be disappointed by Asylum's inventory. If they don't have it, the highly-engaged owner, Scott, will discuss options and likelihood of finding your album. I picked up some excellent condition Zepp, Stones and some Ronstadt LPs. Definitely not a shy guy, Scott greets every customer, even as he's taking time to assist others or forge relationships with first-timers like me. His knowledge in music, vinyl quality and album releases is unparalleled. Ok, let's talk prices because there's conflicting commentary amongst these reviews on that. Asylum's prices run the gamut. And when it comes to vintage vinyl pricing, it's important to remember two things: first, the original records have often lived through decades of use and often multiple owners. So that clean, original vinyl with a high-quality cover is not going to be cheap-cheap. Secondly, less-pricey copies are often also in stock, if your budget is tighter. But, c'mon, how many record resellers have that many original copies where you'd even have that price choice? You can always find cheaper online, sure, but add the shipping cost and subtract the roll-of-the-dice on condition, and I'm a believer in the value of inspection before I shell out my hard-earned cash. So, yeah, I'll be back.

This is basically a temple to classic rock and heavy metal. They buy, sell and trade vinyls, laserdiscs, cassettes, and even CDs. And the staff are really nice. They can help you find something. Even if you can't buy anything come here, feast your eyes on the memorabilia and your ears on the music.
