Stopped in on a trip to New York. Was just planning on looking but saw a very nice used mahogany Martin at a good price. Bought it and had it shipped home. Guitar was professionally packed and quickly shipped. Would recommend the store to anyone. Lots of beautiful used guitars. Also — an AMAZING pedal selection. Best I’ve seen in a shop!

I've been coming to 30th street for years to get my bass setups done right. Matt is an expert who always does a flawless setup. He's a great guy too who remembers your name, instrument, and preferences after less time than you'd think. It's impressive how individualized the customer service is there despite managing a very busy operation with a lot of faces coming and going. Awesome pedal collection on display too. I've recommended this place to several guitarists and bassists and they all are repeat customers too. Thanks for the awesome work Matt!

30th Street Guitars has an amazing selection of classic and vintage guitars and basses, a tremendously large case full of hard to find pedals, and a staff that is polite, friendly, and knowledgeable. They answered all of our questions, pulled down a guitar for us and let us go into the soundproof room to try it out, and did not pressure us in any way to buy something...they were just there to help. I loved the atmosphere of the store, and the friendly nature of the employees. If you're looking for something that is older and hard to find, this is the shop.
Peter Knoll
My favorite guitar shop in town! Great variety of products and excellent repair service. Jimmy & Matt plus team are super kind and professional. Love these guys!
Justin Tucker
Hands down the best shop in the five boroughs. No question. Awesome gear? Check. Knowledgeable super rad employees? Check. Literally the best fret guy on Spaceship Earth (as in, he has patents on fretting tools he invented). I brought a guitar to him with a neck so warped that I had been getting quotes on a custom built replacement necks because it was a very odd scale that was only made for this specific guitar. Matt pulled out his magic wand and took my worst playing instrument and somehow turned it into my best playing instrument. I was in disbelief. A neck I was convinced was beyond any sort of repair now plays like a dream. Need a pedalboard built by legend who has built for every rockstar alive? Yeah, Jimmy will blow your mind. Go there. GO THERE. It’s the only place I trust with my collection. I have zero reservations about leaving multiple multiple thousands of dollars of wood and wire with them to care for as if it was their own.

Amazing service and great selection of special vintage guitars! Matt and his team provide excellent customer service and the best advice for all, from the beginner to pro

The staff at 30th Street is world class. Matt and crew just brought my headstock- snapped SG back to life without compromising the low action profile. It’s also visually unnoticeable. Only place I bring my guitars.
Matthew Wang
Amazing service and Matt is awesome! They might seem pricey but it’s worth it knowing your instrument will be well taken care of!
Nathan Marchack
Simply the best store in NYC for guitar maintenance, setups, etc.. Matt does incredible work but more importantly everyone who works there is super friendly and knowledgable. It epitomizes to me the best of “small business” and I wish them all the best for continued success.
I mostly play metal (which is admittedly not the vibe that you get walking in through the door) - I’ve taken in 3 guitars here for setup (and 1 to fix a botched selector switching job courtesy of a big chain music store which will remain unnamed). Matt set up two of my >10 year old axes unbelievably smoothly (pics attached). They have a huge selection of boutique pedals as well. Check this place out if you play guitar, can’t recommend highly enough.

A fantastic guitar store in Manhattan with a master guitar luthier - Matt Brewster. Brought in a complete custom build for Matt and he nailed it. A superb job, reasonably priced and bent over backwards to make it a great guitar.
Michelle M
Amazing work by amazing people!! I would trust them with any type of work for guitars, bass, ukuleles, etc. Awesome instruments and equipment in their store too.
Zachary McDargh
Fantastic service from these guys, consummate pros! Best guitar shop I’ve ever been to.
Jessica Boehman
All the guys were very welcoming to me as a new guitarist and went out of their way to help me figure out the issues with my guitar. They helped me quickly and clearly took pride in their work. My guitar is now a pleasure to play after the setup. I love that they let me try it out and gave me some tips before I left the store so I felt comfortable. Great job, will definitely return. Thanks!! 😊
Jeremy Pennewell
Great local shop with amazing selection of vintage and new guitars. Highly recommended!

Matt, is the go to person that’s Paramount for all of my plethora of Bass Guitars his knowledge, professionalism, Dedication and passion towards the instrument makes him the quintessential repair guy. Thank you Matt and team @ 30 street Guitars.
Ralph Sordyl
Great folks doing great work. This is the place for repairs, parts, pieces and fabulous guitars.
FongOn1933
Matt & Jimmy are the best. Had a crack in the neck repaired on my ES 335 and after it was invisible. But that’s just the straight job, Matt went beyond and refiled my nut because it was way too high to intonate. Why? Because he’s a pro and cares.
Lauren Chun
Had the most wonderful experience at 30th st guitars yesterday! I am a beginner, learning bass and typically I feel very intimidated to go into music stores. I've been buying only online due to this reason. I enjoyed my 1st pedal so much and wanted an expert recommendation for a next one, and after seeing wonderful reviews of this place I decided to give it a try. I'm so glad I did! I received thoughtful and detailed explanation on a pedal. Everyone at the store was genuinely kind and had awesome personalities. Definitely will be visiting and purchasing from this store again (and again).
Spencer Shanks
Employees were helpful, bridge reglue was good. I asked for it to be setup in D but it was setup in standard. My acoustic guitar’s binding is fragile and a few pieces were missing when I received the guitar back as well.
Tom Wardle
The quality and care of work that Matt and team put into the guitars here is fantastic. Matt makes you feel as if your guitar is the only one that matters and does a sterling job of setting up and repairs and the turnaround is quick, especially if it's needed asap. I would recommend this place to anyone needing a setup on their guitars and they have a loyal customer in me since I moved to NYC two years ago.
Elisa DeFoe
Best guitar shop we've ever visited! My son was in awe of the selection and Jim was kind enough to let him try out a few of his dream guitars that will be in his future. We walked out with an awesome t-shirt, strings and a repaired guitar...and the desire to come back as soon as we can. Loved our experience!

No hype here -- there is a global consensus on that planet known as New York City. 30th Street is where to come if you need your guitar or bass set up properly, or if you want a problem resolved, no matter how many "technicians" have utterly failed in the past. I mean it. Matt can usually diagnose in approximately five seconds what the last five techs have missed and/or overcharged for.
Don't be offput by any seemingly gruff, crusty, rock and roll exterior: these are friendly, devoted people who help any way they can. It's true that this is not a place to get a new guitar, but it's a great place to get used instruments, and sometimes you can find some fantastic ones. It's worth stopping in regularly to check out what they've got on that display near the door. You might find something previously deemed impossible.
You will find used amps, and new Tylers, which are excellent. Their pedal selection is incomparable, and Jimmy is the master of building the pedal board. Please tell them Eric, the astrologer from upstate, said hello, and claim your free guitar pick.

Got a ‘77 Strat for my birthday 2 years ago.
The guys at 30th Street fixed it up, including re-attaching the original neck. Yesterday I picked it up for the first time in a while.
I hadn’t played it in 5-6 months, and my vintage guitar was perfectly in tune.
Kinda says it all, right?
This is why 30th Street is where professional musicians go.
I don’t write many reviews, but promised myself I would this time.
Anthony Marchan
Matt was so cordial and kind and welcoming as he looked at the issue with my guitar (faulty pickup).
He welcomed me to look around and play guitars while he inspected it
Chris and Jimmy were great as well.
Matt did an excellent fix and great job setting up the guitar.
They have some really nice guitars to play on and a cool studio room with really nice pedals to experiment with.
Most of all what I walked away most impressed with was Matt's friendliness and professionalism and the superb work done on my Breedlove acoustic.
My guitar has found a home for repairs and I'd definitely return to check out there guitars and pedals!
Even picked up some cool merch as well from them.
Thanks guys😎👍

This is the only real guitar shop left in NYC, and Matt Brewster’s work is second to none. I recommend him to anyone who wants to leave their valuable instrument in the best of hands.
Matt Sloan
Had major buzzing in my '72 LP Triumph and they did a re-fretting that basically made into a new bass. Plays phenomenal. Matt, John, and everyone at 30th Street Guitars makes you feel welcome and don't charge an arm and leg, although would probably pay for it given the quality of their work.
Chris C
Matt and the crew at 30th Street are fantastic. Great work on guitars, always helpful, and their inventory is incredibly tempting. Great choice for all your guitar needs!
RumberoCincuentaY9
Not into guitars, but this is a small but big vintage guitar shop. Give it a visit. Across the street from F.I.T. college.
Nicola Lozano
Those guys are awesome ! Anytime I want to do a new modification on one of my guitars this guys do It and the outcome is , wonderful!!!! I give them 6 stars out of 5 😊🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽 …

Wow... What a spot
My son and I were on a music store tour in NYC this weekend...30th Street took the cake
And they had a Wooly Mammoth for us to bring home!

During these difficult times, especially in NYC, a small act such as getting an instrument setup by a professional and being treated with respect by a fellow musician can make all the difference. This is the second time I have returned to the shop to get my bass guitar repaired and I will be back again. I cannot recommend this place enough. Save time, save money, go to 30th Street Guitars.
Mike Johnson
Your guitar is important to you, have someone who cares and is an expert work on it. The service and craftsmanship at this place has earned my business for life. This place is second to none and you're a fool if you go anywhere else.
scott coverley
These guys really are the best...Matt did a great job fixing a major ding in my Gretsch Silver Jet!

I’ve been going to 30th St Guitars since the ‘90s. I have bought and sold numerous vintage guitars and amplifiers from them. I have taken all of my guitars and amplifiers, at one time or another, to them for repair, or upgrades. They have come through every single time. I have never walked out of there thinking I should’ve paid less, and always found them to be incredibly personable, professional, reliable, and knowledgeable. Talk to Matt the owner, Jimmy at the front desk, or Nate in repairs, and you will find 30th St Guitars to belong in the guitar shop Hall of Fame as one of the all time greats!

I have been dealing with Matt who owns 30th st guitars for almost 22 years
He has more knowledge, integrity and class than most people, let alone most guitar shop owners
He has been more than fair on trades and even returned a guitar that I had over traded in a deal saying I had offered too much.
He got a bad back bow out of a neck I though was doomed and it has been great for several years now
His fret leveling is unparalleled.
Trust him with any guitars. New or vintage. The will play better than ever

About 8 years ago I purchased a 1979 Alvarez Yairi acoustic guitar from a guitar store in PA. It was pretty beat up showing that it was played a great deal but the sound was amazing. There were some issues with the bridge and saddle that I put up with. Unfortunately the guitar developed some serious buzzing which really kept me from playing it the past two years. I was reluctant to bring it in to get fixed because I was afraid of the costs. I didn’t pay that much for the guitar and was not sure I wanted to put a large sum of money into it. I had never had any guitar work done in the past and I really didn’t know where to turn. After doing my research I decided to bring my guitar to 30th Street Guitars. I met Matt who patiently listened to me explain what I felt the issues were as well as my concerns. Matt enthusiastically explained what he would do and even did a little research in front of me on a part that would solve my bridge issue while keeping the repair price down. Matt also gave me an estimate and I was very happy that it was a price within my budget.
I picked up the guitar yesterday. Matt brought it out and explained all the work he did. He had an incredible sense of pride. He had good reason to feel that way. He went out of the way to fix and repair several issues that he discovered that we didn’t even discuss. The guitar now plays and sounds incredible. Matt’s work was beyond my expectation and he was right on with his estimate. Once I got home I had trouble putting the guitar down. I’m very happy and relieved to know that if I ever have any issue with any of my guitars I now have the right right person to fix them!
Brian Clifford
Had a tough repair job on my beloved D-18, side crack, fret job and saddle coming off. Matt did an unbelievable job and is a really nice guy to boot. Really fine work. My guitar sounds better than ever and plays better than ever. Took a while as they are busy but very happy with the result.
Paul Elkouss
Great store. Everyone was very friendly, and the repair was quick and educational. I will visit again!
Ping Archbold
Amazing service. They're fixing my brother's Larivee guitar. I bought a dope Art & Lutherie. Good selection, too.
Josh Blum
I can’t say enough good things about this shop, Matt, and everyone who works with him. I’ve been a happy customer for years. They‘ve done fantastic work on a lot of my guitars. Recently, however, my appreciation expanded even more when my teenage daughter began playing guitar.
Matt, not only did an amazing job setting up her Hagstrom, he also helped her hone in on the pedals she might want to consider for the sounds she was looking for based on the bands she loves.
I have witnessed many times employees from other guitar shops outright ignore her based on the mere fact that she’s a girl...But not Matt and his crew! They treat her with respect and truly listen to her to find her what she was asking for. They let her play stuff and couldn’t be cooler about her questions. It’s the only shop she ever asks to go to on weekends. Thanks 30th Street!
Lacy Quin
Matt is awesome and charismatic. I was untrained on how to string my classical guitar, and Matt fixed it like new while explaining in a nice, educational way that i had doing it wrong. A couple of days later, there was another problem with a hum.
Again, they got it under control. The whole team made me feel like a part of the NYC music world. I will go back to this store for anything i need (distance permitting)!!
hugo cruz
great store , I found this place the best to fix my guitar, and the greatest to buy a guitar too , very friendly people help you all the time , and they know exactly everything about the guitar business!!
Alan DeCambra
Incredibly knowledgeable staff here. Matt took a short look at my guitar after multiple other guitar repair guys said nothing was wrong with it when it was clearly off in sound in a way I couldn’t pin down. He looked at it and in a few minutes identified that the bridge was placed completely wrong from the factory, which caused certain fingerings to go off key regardless of how well it was tuned. I don’t know anything about how guitars work, but he took the time to explain it to me which is the only reason I’m able to explain it here. He also recommended a really neat usability mod to the wiring and recommended me a cheaper solution than I thought I needed for a separate unrelated issue. And all this was care taken on my $30 punk show junk guitar! Great work done here
Saul Kaiserman
Don't get confused by the address... They kept their name in the new location because of loyal customers like me. If only car mechanics could be as fair, honest, and kind as these folks. Limitless talent and experience. If you need guitar repairs or just a setup, you can stop your fretting, because your problems will be solved here. Also a great curated selection of electric and acoustic guitars, ukes, and effects.
Miguel Sabogal
I have brought all of my guitars, from epiphone hollowbodies to gibson hollowbodies, to Matt and he always turned them from good guitars into great playing guitars. He does fantastic fret level works. He also cares about the details of each instrument and will go out of his way to point out inexpensive small fixes if it seems like an expensive overhaul is unnecessary, which I think speaks positively about his business ethics. The shop itself always has interesting, fairly priced guitars.
Sri Viswanath (sri888)
Matt and his team are really great at what they do and make your instrument sound and feel great. From my vintage to modern guitars these guys have done a great job! Highly recommended! A store that really caters to musicians!
D T
Lots of great vintage guitars in here, the guy behind the counter was super helpful too
D.K. Quarshie
Love you guys. You did an awesome job in setting up my Les Paul with mini humbuckers.
Without hesitation, your store is the best place in NYC for guitar setup and repair.
How many ways can I say thank you? You guys did a great job with my guitar.

Isaac Aronow (Puddsy)
Was looking for a fuzz pedal, was very pleased with the selection. Got to play thru 4 different options and eventually settled on one I liked. If I'd had more time I would have tried some of the great guitars there as well.
terry locke
Ten stars here! I bought my 2005 Fender American strat deluxe to have the frets replaced with jumbo frets. I bought the guitar for sentimental reasons. It never quite played the way I wanted it to. When I played it the first time I got it back, it was wonderful. I always love the way a friend’s Suhr guitar played. Now, mine plays better in my opinion. Matt even refinished the back of my neck to a satin finish, which was a really nice surprise! I would like to bring another guitar to get the same work done. Thank you Matt!
Timothy Bambrough
Why go to the Guitar Center. If you need your guitar set up or fixed these guys have you covered. One of the best repair shops in the city. They also have a great selection of used high end guitars. Lots of old Les Paul's. They also have some used amps and a great selection of both new and used effects pedals. Support local businesses.
Alistair Pope
Such great service by such friendly helpful staff! I bought a $550 guitar and case, Matt restrung it and set it up, and threw in 2 t-shirts and a pack of strings (don't expect the same; I'm charming, I'm from London and it's my birthday...!), and answered all of my questions. An absolute pleasure to shop there. Highly recommended.
Kayrose
The most genuine, friendly and knowledgeable crew in all of NY. I wouldn’t take my guitars anywhere else other than Matt himself.
Paul Cabri
30th Street Guitars was referred to me by my old guitar tech who was great and widely respected but couldn't continue working. I've brought several guitars to be fixed, both acoustic and electric, and they're work has been consistently good each time. Highly recommended!
glo
Went here to get my strings changed for the first time. The price and service was good but what surprised me was when the dude also polished my fretboard with no charge. We both agreed that the fretboard needed it. Chill atmosphere and such a convenient place for college guitar players.
Steve Novak
Truly a great shop. Super friendly and helpful with zero arrogance or attitude. Brought in an old bass to sell on consignment. Was told the neck was not in good enough shape to sell. But then he directed me to the repair shop in back. Within 5 min the tech adjusted the neck, tested it out, and it was perfect. Brought it back up front and he wrote it up for sale. No charge for the adjustments or testing, and they seem confident in being able to sell it for more than I thought. While there I noticed how they handled several other customers - all very courtiously, professionally and efficiently.
yaguzi
Decent guitar store with a nice selection. The employees weren’t particularly attentive, but it was a cramped space in a busy saturday afternoon.
Juan Toribio
Top of the line work available here for your guitar. I had a particular problem that no one would solve or even approach (large chains and smaller stores) and Matt did it in an hour at a price so low it was practically a gift. I always feel great when I need to get a guitar maintenanced because it means I get to stop by this place.
Jeffrey Gross
I would strive to match Matt's dead-on combined technical, business, and customer management skills. Rarely do we receive best-in-class products, technical expertise, and value pricing in the same establishment, but that's EXACTLY what happens at 30th Street Guitars. I'm honored to be recognized upon entry. I am aware of no viable competitor in New York City. Best of luck in your new location!
Brendan Ward
Have been a customer for more than 10 years. Matt and the rest of the staff know what they are doing. Matt is an incredible luthier and a great guy. THE BEST GUITAR SET UP IN NEW YORK. And unlike a lot of vintage stores, there's something for everybody here.
Frank Neill
I can't say enough about Matt and the team at 30th Street Guitars. I took a recently purchased guitar into 30th Street that had some fret buzzing. I'd had it "fixed" at another repair shop who wanted to charge me again for more work since the problem still wasn't solved. Matt quickly assessed the problem and got the guitar in amazing shape within a week. He even routed some wood in the back cavity free of charge.
It's clear that he loves his work and truly cares about his customers and I felt like a regular customer on my second time in the store.
Highly, highly recommended!
Eli Bleu
Since our instruments are really important to us, we cant just trust any luthiers out there .. But over at 30th str guitars rest assured you're in great hands. Matt, Chris and the boys are nothing but courteous, super talented and mega professional. I had a refret done on an older strat and the guitar feels and plays better than when I first got it .. So fortunate to have this place, and these guys, in the heart of NYC .. Plus they have an awesome collection of gear for sale too.. Go check it out..TODAY! .. A+++
michael shadlen
I had a great experience with Matt in the workshop. Professional and super competent. He saw me (and my guitar) on a Saturday, diagnosed the illness, fixed it, tested it, discovered a second problem (masked by the 1st) and fixed that. All just in time for a gig, which would have been a meltdown otherwise. Thank you 30th Street Guitars!
Cole Krug
The chillest and most helpful guitar store I’ve found in the city. Super nice dudes and amazing selection — especially re: effect pedals. A 5 star shop!
Davidson Castro
Higly experienced personnel, good variety of high quality/rare guitars, many boutique and rare pedals. I had my custom Tele set up finally done there after tried at a major retailer..
Dimitrij Borisov
Great store fir guitarists, great selection of premium and vintage guitars+amps and the most probably biggest ever selection of boutique effects pedals. Somewhat expensive, but definitely worth to give it a try.
Charles Crain
I'm in NYC visiting my son, from Texas. While he was working, I spent a couple of days looking for the perfect telecaster for me, a fixer upper, when I found 30th Street Guitars online, so I went to check it out.
While I was there a young man was picking up his Squire Tele, which they had been working on. The kid was amazed! Matt and the techs here made that guitar play and sound like a professional, and I am not kidding. All of us were standing around that shop listening to this guitar and how amazing it sounds with stock pickups, but with new wiring 100%.
I found a nice little 7 year old Mexican Tele for what I thought was a fair price, and I picked it up and fell in love with this thing. The price was a little higher than your walmart/guitar center price, but those guys had put a new nut, cleaned up the wiring and set the intonation. It was perfect! So for about $50 more than walmart, I saved the $200 or so that I would have spent getting this work done. So now I'm the proud owner of a Nashville standard telecaster. When the guys heard I was travelling back to Texas with it, they ran down to their basement and found me a hardshell case and added a tshirt.
I'm not only always shopping here when I'm in NY, I'm going to wait until I come visit my son again to buy anything. These guys were a lucky find. NYC is a lucky city..
Christopher Wong
matt is the best guy. did work on my martin and it has never felt better. he even agreed to stay after closing time to wait for me as i work weekends. even did extra stuff i didnt ask for. top notch craftsmanship. would not go anywhere else in nyc to get a stuff done. price is more than fair and well worth it for the care, precision, and quality of the work.
Kevin Montgomery
30th Street Guitars provides unbeatable setups and repair work for acoustic and electric guitars of all kinds. Walking to the counter is like running the gauntlet of temptation, what with their magnificent vintage Gibsons, Fenders, and oddball Italian mod rockers hanging on the right wall. Last time I was here, Elvis Costello's guitars were waiting to be picked up! If HE'S getting work done here, then where are you going? Don't be stupid. Bring your little whammy bar to one of New York's last remaining independent storefronts dedicated to educated musicians - guitarists, that is.
Koala D
I've been to quite a few guitar shops and dealt with many technicians but herein lies the most honest and the best guitar techs (also the owner of the store) you'll ever come across. All the best players go there to get their gears checked/bought.
Best customer support.
Booty-q pedals.
Vintage guitars.
Seem-mean-at-first-but-soon-as-you-converse-you-find-out-he-loves-busting-your-chops-being-a-newyorker-quirky-funny-nice-chillest counter person.
Tech named Rrrrosario.
Owner is the maker of the 'Rust' guitars!!! You guys should try them. Plays like a dream
What more would you want in a local chill guitar store? It really is more than a guitar store if you ask me. Have a visit! You won't be disappointed.
ps. No i'm not getting paid for this review. lol
Drews Negron
