Reviews of Louisiana Music Factory
Went in a mission to find some rare soul and funk by the Meters. I found exactly what I was looking for. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They had albums CDs cool T shirts. You can pick up some unique items here.
Top Notch!
Old-school vinyl and CD shop staffed by knowledgeable and friendly folks. Start at the listening station up front -- do not pet the cat -- then proceed to the racks. Check out the great T-shirts. Best selection of local and Louisiana music anywhere. A must when in New Orleans.
Not only does this place have an incredible amount of music they also have clothing which is as hard to find these days as CDs. I picked up a Dolly Parton TShirt for $20! I love this store. They have sooooooooo much records and CDs and printed music new and used. Their cat was sleeping, I was looking forward to meeting snookie. I wish there was one of these places left in the Big Apple.
Record stores are virtually a thing of the past now, although the younger generation's interest in vinyl has helped with a few new stores springing up. The long-established Louisiana Music Factory on Frenchman Street is an exception. This large store is stocked with vinyl, CDs DVDs, books and tee shirts. Mostly jazz, blues, New Orleans and classic rock/pop stuff. The staff are knowledgeable and the place is a pleasure to shop in. I make a point of popping in whenever I visit the Crescent City. If you are in New Orleans give it a try. Highly recommended, and it's located just across the road from the New Orleans Jazz Museum.
We always stop here when in nola. Even when it was it the old location with two stories this place is a gem with hidden treasures if you take your time.
Stumbled on this gem as we were walking along Frenchman St. What a great find! Great selection of new and used vinyls and posters. The owners/staff were extremely helpful and friendly - as a vinyl collector I have to say, this is rare. I asked them about a vinyl my daughter was interested in purchasing and they were kind enough to play it for her as we shopped. If you’re looking for a well stocked location with reasonable prices, this place is a must visit.
Loved the variety of the store and the friendliness of the staff. Sometimes I go to record stores and feel very unwelcome by the judgy staff, this one gave me the opposite vibes. Also there’s a cute cat walking around the store
Awesome record and music store with all types of formats. It was very well organized and a shop cat too!
This is a great record shop, excellent jazz and blues selection and the staff is very helpful. Check out Snooks the cat!
Never have I ever walked into a music store with a brass band section...and here it was. A holy grail. The staff was extremely knowledgable and friendly. I love my local MN record store, but this place...if I could come back here frequently, I would.
Have collected vinyl my entire life. Have purchased from amazing record stores all over the country. This is in my top 3 in the US for Stock, Value, Employee knowledge & service. If you need Jazz, Zydeco, Brass Band, etc, this is THE STORE. They also are expert shippers so don't be afraid to call and order what you need and have it shipped. Will arrive quickly and in perfect condition. They can also ship if you are traveling and don't want to pack vinyl in your luggage.
Great place to spend a couple hours browsing their amazing vinyl collection. WAY better (and significantly less expensive) than Peaches uptown. Staff is incredibly friendly and helpful as well. Not to be missed.
Great selection to choose from. Tons of new arrivals located throughout the shop. And a fabulous selection of jazz and local/regional artists. Prices were definitely fair on most things and competitive. They also have great tshirts and books and lots of other media to browse. Several listening stations set up as well. For an out of town dig, it’s a great place to stop!
Love the listening stations set up for new CDs. Live music is also great when you can catch it. Some pretty bizarro stuff on LP in boxes too, if you look!
if you are a hardcore NOLA / Louisiana music nerd, this is the worldwide epicenter record store. impossible to find records. would give it 5 stars, but the staff isn't that helpful or friendly, seemingly just interesting in shoving whatever new record they are pushing that day in your hand v really helping someone dig in and mine the gold there
Good record selection with multiple genres. Has a shop cat.
If you're visiting New Orleans or you live here this is a pretty essential store to grab local music and support local bands. They have a good diverse and obscure selection of vinyl and cds that I recommend perusing. My one complaint is that the store doesn't carry some obscure albums or CDs that are fairly popular like Oliver Tree. The albums are categorized in a very organized fashion that does cut down on the time it would take to sift through every album. The staff usually have a chill attitude and try to maintain a good Playlist running over the speakers 🔊 👌
Spent about an hour and a half in the store perusing through the vinyl records. I bought a couple of keepers. Awesome experience and an awesome playlist playing in the background. Will definitely be back.
Good shop - adorable cat! Helpful staff.
You can find every single CD of tradicional Jazz music
This is a very nice and clean place where you can find classic, vintage and contemporary music. A variety of Jazz musicians, guitarists and other players from different eras... Louisiana Music Factory is a unique store for those who understand the complex and divinity of the styles...
Great music shopping experience. Good selection of vinyl, CDs and other music related items. Has a specific section on New Orleans music. Very friendly staff.
Fantastic record store. I could have spent all my money. Great selection of jazz and blues.
Love this place! Always recommend to those travelling to New Orleans! Great selections and atmosphere!
Great to see an independent music store still thriving. As one would expect in Nola, they focus on jazz and have built a niche in state and local bands. Knowledgeable staff help you decide what to select. Besides music on CD and vinyl, they also sell great music t shirts, posters and sheet music. There is also a great selection of used CDs of every genre.
Great store. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Fun dollar bins that actually throw you a bone or two. Worth a visit if you’re in the area.
This GOTTA be the best music store in all of Louisiana!! The art posters better than the Amoeba Music store in Cali! Music more a large collection but big enough for a real music head to enjoy the Black culture of all sounds! The merch is 🔥🔥 …
Just received my second order of New Orleans focused records. Kudos to the Louisiana Music Factory! The records were double boxed and well packaged, and arrived in much better condition than records from some of the other big-name stores. I'm glad to support a small local business... even if I live 1,337 miles away!
So nice to still be able to lay hands on actual albums. Streaming music will never replace meandering the aisles of a good record store, and a place like this one, with a very helpful staff, will assure that music in physical form will never die.
Tons of records, and a really fun store!
My favorite store in town to buy New Orleans music on vinyl. Great selection and very fair prices. The staff is great and passionate about music- every time I come in I end up conversing about different bands and records with whoever is behind the counter. Always a good experience.
Incredible place to find local music! Brass bands, Dixie, Cajun, Zydeco, Delta Blues... I got out from here with like 15 vinyl records, and I whished I could have bought more and more. The crew is really nice, always ready to help and to give a good advice. Not a big selection of secondhand, but a lot of great records.
Great collections. If you're some one looking for vinyls a must visit. This place has some kind of amazing vibe maybe because of music playing in the background along with some classics. Hours will spend like minutes. Bought artic monkey's collection at a reasonable price. Friendly staff with good service. Thanks guys
I think this is the best record store I've ever visited! Great selection, very organized, they also sell CD, DVD, posters and other. A great jazz band was playing there when I visited so it was a pleasant surprise.
You can buy local jazz band LPs there!
Good selection of music along a wide variety of genres. The employees were helpful in finding what I was looking for.
Awesome New Orleans music experience from classic albums to classic shirts you'll love it!!
Fantastic experience - huge jazz section. Even saw local legend George Porter Jr. while shopping. Great tshirts as well - Frenchmen St. is a must do for music lovers.
the guys were super friendly and very knowledgeable. I gave them only some vague ideas about what I liked and they directed me to 3 albums that were great. they also recommended some great live music. worth the trip. and there is a friendly cat, can't beat that...
Good prices and in a nice section of New Orleans. Apparently there is a happening nightlife around this area, although I visited in the middle of the afternoon. People were friendlier here than other record stores, and there were some sections with discounted records. I expected the blues section to be larger, but the jazz section is worth checking out. Like some of the other stores, there are some records on low shelves that have discounted records that are worth a peek.
it just the the type of place, if they don't have it they will get it for you . more new and used LP then you can shake a stick at . its not just local stuff .when my lady takes me here[ she a always put the cash in hand , and knows i be here for some time]. this is the place for t shirts poster books not just CD and LP. the new location is very nice. the sale people know their stuff if they don't they shout a cross the shop to someone that knows . got to love that.if your a music player they got instrument stuff also. this place is well worth my 130+ mile drive and i work in a music shop but its nothing like this place !!!!
I love this place. SO much great stuff and so many local artists. Why doesn't every town have a local artist section. Reasonable pricing and nice staff.
I got out for $119. All vinyl. I'll applaud my restraint. Broad selection along with a key niche of local music. Scored a couple of semi-rare pieces for under $12. Super knowledgeable and welcoming staff.
Nice store, great selection on used records. I dont like to complain about other peoples performances but what is the deal with both gentlemen on the used vinylpart of the store? They were distant, looking utterly bored and had quite the temper. I asked if i could see a record. Lots of puffs like everything is too much. Really a pitty on this otherwise nice store.
Great music choices you can listen to before buying. Friendly knowledgeable staff. Great in-store music performances. Supporting this independent music store sure beats buying from big box stores or Amazon.
Just an incredible record store in New Orleans, huge selection & a healthy assortment of local music that's hard to find anywhere else. I love this place.
Excellent shop. Friendly staff. Great selection and they obviously cater to people that want explore the local music scene both past and present. Also, where else can you get a Professor Longhair t-shirt!?
If you're still interested in VINYL, this is a must do spot. This may be one of, if not THE LAST good old fashioned RECORD STORE in New Orleans. The place could almost pass for being a museum. My wife bought about a dozen records when we were in NOLA in October. Great and very knowledgeable staff and you will find some great, classic music if you've got a couple hours to spend looking through crates upon crates of wax, reminiscing about afternoons at the record store when you were growing up.
A really good store. Plenty of decent rare stuff on the wall, good selection in the racks - and there are plenty of racks to go through. If I hadnt been with my family I could have spent hours here.... and a lot of money. I was over from the UK, and was pretty blown away.
Great selection of new and old LP's, local and world jazz, blues, gospel, country. They sell CD's as well. Knowledgeable and helpful staff. It's a must stop if you appreciate music, and especially vynils. They also have three players where you can check before purchasing. Prices range from $3 up to $100 depending on selection.
Oh, BTW, if you're driving, I suggest paying for the meter and set a reminder, time flies so quick in this store, I've got a $30 ticket :)
It is like going back in time to visit here. I have to admit loving record stores and this was a good one. They had a large selection of all music types and of course lots of jazz.
I love a good record store, and this is a great record store. Huge used music inventory, too. As the name implies they have a fantastic selection of NOLA and Louisiana artists. I will be back.
One of the best music stores in the Gulf South. If you're looking for New Orleans, music, this awesome French Quarter store can't be beat. But they have every other variety of music you can imagine too on CD and vinyl - new and used. Incredible selection, super friendly and knowledgeable service, and great prices. The in-store performances are the icing on the cake. Do not miss this place if you are visiting, and if you live here, this is a reason in and of itself to visit the French Quarter!
Great selection of vinyl and record players. They have a book section that's really nice. I got a jazz music book for piano and vocal. Will come back.
It's the best place to find homegrown local music stretching across every genre. staff is very helpful the prices are reasonable and they host free in store concerts periodically with the release of the musicians new CD .
Just back from a mini-vacation in the French Quarter, and didn't return empty-handed!. Very impressed with the wide variety, the local presence and guidance on making selections. Also helpful are the multi-disc CD players with headphones that allow a customer to sample different discs across the different genres.
Support your local music (store)!
They have CDs of most of the good local bands. We always pick up the latest Tuba Skinny album when we're here. Also, they have a stack of the event magazines that tell who is playing where. Good resource.
Take your time and enjoy the smell and feel of a brick and mortar record store. Catch a show on their small stage or listen to CDs they set up in CD players. The selection of local music is huge. Lots of Cajun, Blues, Jazz, and all nicely focused on NO / LA. Very little Rock/Pop/HipHop. Vinyl selection is somewhat small but follows the same pattern.
I usually grab a CD they currently recommend. Always good. Prices are a little high but they put quite a bit of work into their selection of local music and after all this is a brick and mortar store and has real expenses.
Great local music on vinyl, CD, and cassette. Make sure you pet the kitty.
Always a great selection of local music, the new location is convenient but lacks some of the charm of the old. There is a great T-shirt selection just look up and don't miss the incredible Lego display in the entrance.
As vinyl junkie it's nice to find record shops that are still needing with life. They have great collection and very helpful staff.
It's absolutely the best store for local and regional music. The staff are amazing and insanely helpful. If you've never been, you have to go check it out.
This is on of my favorite stores, we don't go too often bcs we always bring back way more then we set out to :). They have cds and vinyl and DVDs and art and collectibles and umbrellas and....and....check it out!
Great place, nice selection of records. You could spend all day looking if you had the time. Since we were on vacation it was nice to see that they even sell a few souvenirs for the musician back home.
The perfect vibe for the Shop. The advices are great.
Great supporter of the local LIVE music scene, and seller of most local artists. Fabulous selection of Louisiana music as the name suggests. Caring passionate staff make a visit to MLF special each and every time. Highest recommendations.
Very knowledgeable staff. Best selection of local, national and international jazz and blues in NOLA. Love the in-store live music too. Don't miss it.
The absolute best. I always put a $20 aside for a purchase here. They have all the local artists, including CDs you cannot get online. I repeat: music available here that is not available online! The staff knows what's up, so ask them questions about artists or styles. I got an old Pete Fountain record for $5 (he's like 20 years old on the cover) which is now prominently displayed on my record wall. They also have in-store shows so check WWOZ, the Gambit, etc and stop by to see some fantastic music in an intimate setting. This is definitely a New Orleans must-do.
Louisiana Music Factory should be your first place to visit in the French Quarter. I can't say enough good things about this place or their staff. I bought a mountain of NO jazz last time I was in there and am sure to do so again! Their sheet music section is great too. This place is awesome!
If you are looking for New Orleans' Music, this is the place to go or order on line.
The staff is knowledgeable, efficient & friendly. If they don't have what you're looking for,
ask if they can order it. You can find music from all over the world and T-shirts too.
So much fun! HUGE selection of any type of music you are looking for🎵🎶. Thank you for the free concerts during JazzFest! Looking forward to enjoying the recordings on your YouTube channel. …
Fun store! Lots of good old finds. Plus, they have bins of old $3 records and a few $1 records as well. Good way to try out new music.
Good amount of vinyl. Lots of local stuff, older stuff(50's, 60's, 70's), jazz, motown, soul/R&B, and rock. No real (underground)hip-hop or electronic sections, which I was looking for. TONS of used 33's and 45's for $3. Picked up a Temptations and a Nat King Cole vinyl for $16 total.
Great selection of music in all types and styles. I liked looking at the selection while my husband was shopping. Prices were very fair as well and they all seem really knowledgeable about there products.
Well organized! Great selections! Friendly service! Worth going to if you are from out of town! I'm from California, and was glad I came here! They do sell and have a great selection in 78 rpm records!
This is a record store that carries a lot of new records but if you search hard, you will find what you were looking for at least jonra wise. I found an older copy of the cures disintegration album at that I had been looking for for a long time and I got it for a fair price unlike the internet. The service is very friendly and helpful. A bit off the beaten path.
Nice music store great selection. Saw a bunch of stuff I don't usually see at other record stores. Thought the prices were a bit high.
Such a great place. I was staying in the French Quarter. It was a walk but worth it. Super knowledgeable staff. Helps me pick out two lousiana rock and roll vinyls.
Great experience and an amazing store. Great selection of classic and local recording. Enjoyed our time and search through their large collection. Watch the hours.
Very friendly and helpful staff, excellent selection of music, and amazing feel of the place. We were amazed when we walked in, especially since they had some more obscure local artists like the New Orleans Steamcog Orchestra.
I googled 70116 guitar strings, then walked over to unexpectedly find a full house listening to Southern Sounds Party feat. Aurora Nealand, which was awesome... and I got a vinyl copy of The Beach Boys Endless Summer for $3. Great find all the way around.
Worth a visit. good selection and very fair prices. not much newer vinyl here so if your into that don't get too excited.
Great store. Excellent selection, knowledgeable staff. They sell Audio Technica turntables too!
Really nice shop with a ton of stuff to look through. I found some African high-life jazz on vinyl! I recommend for New Orleans related stuff.
Great local music selection, shirts/hats/gifts, general music too, Soul, R&B, Country, Gospel, Trad Jazz, Funk, Blues, Cajun, Zydeco, Rock, etc!
Love this store! Purchased some Tuba Skinny CD’s here! Worth the drive from Blacksburg, VA to New Orleans!
One good turn..
Diverse Neighborhood Wrecka Stow. Great T-shirts, Surly staff.😉 …
My favorite record store ever! 🔝 I love Tuba Skinny 🎺🎼 …
Long time favorite for buying local music. Knowledgeable staff, great selection. There are sometimes free in-store performances to publicize new releases.
the most comprehensive record store inna Easy. not an overstatement, trust me. if they don't have it here, rest easy, and git outta there, you don't need it. you got New Orleans culture to absorb, git on wit' it!
If you want music - this is the place to be.
Great recommandations, super helpful and spot on.
You can listen to a lot of the new stuff on the spot before buying which is a huge plus!
I wish I could have stayed longer there!!!
One of the best selections I've ever seen of old stuff. Awesome ambience. Knowledge staff. I spent at least 4 hours there. Good values!
this no-frills shop is a must-stop every time i am in town. it mot only features the artists you would expect neville brothers, louis armstrong, trombone shorty but also artists you won't find anywhere else, for any price, as well as imports and local labels. store hours are somewhat limited so call ahead before you go. they also frequently feature free concerts on saturdays.
Great place. Found everything I wanted at a reasonable price
Great selection of albums by local artists and amazing in-store appearances. This place can be as fantastic as any club on Frenchman St.
If you love jazz music, you should visit this gorgeous shop: there is a huge collection of new and second hand vinyles, cd, pictures and so on!
Great music shop with a real music shop vibe. Vinyl, CDs, even cassettes. Good t shirt selection as well!!
Great location for vinyl records...... all types. If I was not on vacation would have shopped more there.
