I had a hard time spending money here... Not because they didn't have anything for me to buy. They have a lot of merchandise. But, because they had everything booked for double what it should have been. Even with their discount, everything I wanted was still over book prices. (I use Overstreet, Comic Book Price Guide and sold eBay as my barometer). I travel all over the country shopping comics and this stop was by far the most expensive I've seen outside of New York or New Jersey. So, the next time I'm in Nashville, I don't know that I'd take the time to stop and shop.

This is the "main" great escape and one I've enjoyed going to for years because it has a bit of everything. Comics, records, movies in formats from VHS to Bluray, cards, gaming supplies, manga, books, CDs, toys, and so so much more. I ALWAYS find something I want.

Took some cards to be sold. They kept over night. But they don't deal in superhero cards. Wish they would have said that before. I had to drive back 40 miles for nothing.

The Great Escape has been a Nashville institution since the late 70s. The downtown location was amazing and I still miss it. But they moved to this new location on Charlotte in 2010. Growing pains of the new Nashville, that prime location was no longer affordable. The Charlotte location is fine though, plenty of square footage and ample parking. They have lots of music, movies, memorabilia and comics. I find something to buy every time I'm out there. They have sidewalk sales regularly to clear inventory as well. While it lacks the charm and cool location of the downtown store, it's still definitely worth visiting, and you can get some bargains there.

Not a huge selection of retro games, but like all Great Escape stores, prices are almost always at or below market value. This review is from the perspective of a retro video game collector. Inventory: 3/5 - There aren't typically many rare or sought-after titles available, but they are always bringing in new inventory and rotating stock. Value: 5/5 - They base their prices on current market value and always try to beat the trend by at least a few cents. In addition, Manager's Specials and 20% off storewide sales are common. Location: 4/5 - Plenty of parking. Organization is there, but not perfect. If you're looking for a specific accessory or controller, you might have to sort through a few boxes of junk to find it. Overall: 5/5 for friendly staff and constantly rotating stock. Clean store, tons of parking. Bathroom key available upon request. If you check back often, you can find some great deals!

I haven't made it out to shop for used music and movies in a long time. I was happy to see The Great Escape when I was in the area for a doctor visit. The place is filled with great stuff. It is very well organized and the prices of the used cds & dvds were affordable. I'd definitely shop there again

A pretty decent record store that (get this...) sells actual records! You can find cassette tapes, records, CD's, and added bonus...comics?! Check it out if you're in the area. Be warned, for being in Nashville their country music selection is lacking (the reason for only 4 stars)...but still a great selection of most everything else.

Drove 2 hours to the Great Escape on Record Store Day (Black Friday, 2021) looking for limited-edition records released specifically on that day. Not being from the area, I had to ask if they still had any RSD releases left, as It was also later in the day by the time I got there. They directed me to the area where those releases were, & I found every album I was looking for, and some were the very last ones they had left. The staff was obviously quite helpful & if you're old-school like me, the place is an audiophile's dream. Records, cd's, posters, limited-editions, out-of-print & no longer being made items, etc.

If you want comics or records, it's a good place to go still. Used to be an absolutely amazing place to find really crazy stuff. Last few years things really haven't shown up there anymore. Not sure if that's because of the store itself or because people are taking their crazier things online, but the excitement of finding something really unique and off the wall there hasn't happened for me in a while.

Super friendly staff at the Charlotte location (not so much at the Madison location). As an avid vinyl collector, I’d say the this is one of the two best stores in the city for used, collectible albums (the other being Phonolux). Prices are reasonable. Awesome comics selection also. They are a Nashville tradition so check this place out!

What's not to like about this place? It was around when I was growing up and now I take my kids there. We love browsing the comic books marked for .48 and .99, what a bargain! They enjoy reading them and it's not a big deal if one gets torn. It's well organized they have music including vinyls, an array of comic books, new and old, and other vintage items. Everything is well organized and they know their stuff about what's hot and not.

If you’re into vinyl or cds, this is the place to be. Comic selection is good, but mostly 90s excessive printed books. Not much as far as keys or high dollar back issues. The wall books are a mix of modern books in the $10-$20 range and older non-keys (many priced a bit higher than they deserve to be). All in all not a bad store, but not worth going out of your way for.

Really neat store with alot of cool stuff to look at. I'm pretty impressed with the variety of stuff they carry, but I do wish they had more of some of it. Also, the staff doesn't seem very eager to want to help, but they are by no means rude. All in all, it's a place I go fairly regularly, but I usually leave the store empty handed.

So much fun to walk around and browse here! Great selection of literally anything you can think of, in terms of media and culture... movies, comic books, music, action figures, Magic the Gathering... I spent most of my time on my last visit checking out the $.99 bin of CDs, found at least 6 or 7 treasures (or things worth taking a one dollar gamble on!). There are usually stools or something to sit on the check out all the stock, good hours and easy parking. Overall, a fun place to check out, and keep your eyes peeled for sales!

This is a local comic books store, but it also has quite a bit of cool other used stuff: comic books, movies, music in all kinds of forms, and a nice selection of video games, as well. It's a little dirty-looking; it looks disorganized; it comes off as somewhat amateurish, but if you take your time, you'll find treasures. Cool place.

I've been shopping at the Great Escape since it was just one store in Midtown on Broadway. The Charlotte location is a great place to buy records. Their prices are very reasonable. Good selection of comics and movies too.

Still the most reasonably priced place in Nashville to buy used vinyl, and they have a great selection. It's not a cozy place (a bit like a florescent-lit small grocery store) but its size provides plenty of space for those records, comic books, DVDs, and video games. The folks up front can be busy at times, so may come across as brusque, but mostly they're helpful and very knowledgeable. Oh, and in the back, there is a great selection of 78's for Victrola players, most look to be in mint very good to mint condition. Finally, found out the other day, they have an online store, and they will ship.

They have a pretty decent selection of comics and did a good job sorting them but their prices were mediocre. I asked if they would work with me on the price since I was buying a large quantity and the guy shot me down instantly; they did their standard 10% off marked price which they do for all back-issues. With that 10% off, the prices came out at or slightly above market value on pretty much every book I bought. In the end it wasn't enough of a price gouge for me to walk away from the purchase but I doubt I'll go back in the future.

Great place. Its always my first stop when i go to nashville. They have a little of everything could have a bigger pokemon card and video game selection but the variety makes up for it. The staff are very nice the lady that had to unlock the pokemon case was helpful and didnt get aggravated when i asked for multiple cases to be unlocked when they were pretty busy. 5 out of 5

Been here a couple times now and I'm a fan! They have a little bit for everyone. In this time of hard copies of music dying this store is staying a float by branching out to comics, toys, memorabilia , and games. The games is what brought me in. Particularly their magic the gathering shelf. All cards on the shelf are .05 yes 5 cents. Never found anyhting AMAZING but found some playable stuff in there. Pretty cool store. Definitely will be back, so believe the hype!

I really like The Great Escape. We were able to browse a large cd selection and larger vinyl collection and find some interesting items for purchase and for nostalgia. I really like that they put out all types of vinyl, as I am seeking out hard to find k-tel and Ronco albums from the 70s and most places don't offer these for sale. The vast majority of used items are in extremely good condition and definitely worth the prices they ask. Some interesting memorabilia are offered at very fair prices. I'll be back.

This store has a big selection of old vinyl, cassettes, or Cds. They also have posters, old magazines, and all kinds of varying memorabilia. The prices are a little higher than other stores I've been to though. I would have given it 5 stars but the staff was not helpful or very cordial at all.

Absolute gems have been discovered at The Great Escape. Bought gifts for all my friends who appreciate music on vinyl. Hands-down the warmest staff on Charlotte Avenue. The most thrilling feature of this record store is that I can flip through comics without being heckled for peeking! Same with music, they have a station near the video game display cases where you can preview a vinyl's quality and sound in studio headphones. Ugh, I cannot stress what a haven this establishment is. Glad I live just 1 minute walking from it! RIP Goodwill...

Great selections, prices, everything. I prefer this over McKay's for music. I can walk in the door to pick up one vinyl and not realize it's quikly an hour and a half later and I'm walking out with 20 used vinyls for about $30. Love it!

I've been a long time customer of The Great Escape. While The Great Escape is primarily a used music store, being a good resource for those looking for vinyl, it also carries other products, such as used cds, dvds, and blu-ray disks. It has current comic book and graphic novel releases, as well as some back issues and collecting supplies; they offer a comics hold service, where they will pull and hold new comics for you at a 25% discount. Additionally, they carry a small amount of used table-top gaming items and other collectibles. Since almost all the inventory is of a used nature, the prices are typically on the low side. If they don't have what you are looking for on a first visit, keep checking back. It will probably turn up. That has been my experience.

I love The Great Escape! I lived in Nashville for 20 years and have visited all locations. I married a guy from North Carolina and relocated but I come back to visit relatives a couple of times a year . My husband is a music lover and has a huge collection of albums, cassettes and CD's so I took him to check it out and he now makes plans for us to come to Nashville just so he can shop and browse. Always find lots to buy!!!

Pretty much the most amazing place to snag vintage/rare toys, music, games, and vinyl. You can trade in your old media for store credit or cash. The store is your basic comic/music shop and there's always 4+ staff members to help you at any time you need it. The restroom key tag changes almost monthly, sometimes it's a sword handle, other times a Jabba the Hut figure, I've even seen a record attached to it. So no stealing the key!

Tons of used cds, records and comics. The records are the reason for my visit. They have phonographs to listen before you buy. They do a good job of marking albums with "Check Condition" labels. Prices are reasonable. Sometimes you come across a good find, but they have a lot of store traffic and the albums have been searched through extensively. The staff are curtious but you are left alone to search as you wish.

If you are looking for any type of music this is the place to go. I love this place. Sometimes they have .25 cent sidewalk sales where you can buy CD's, albums, comic books, baseball cards and dvds. You really should try this place. They have 3 or 4 locations so, there's got to be one near you. I don't work here. I just love this place.

I've been a customer of the Louisville location for years, but today I finally went to the last one I needed to go to so that i had been to all four. Definitely the largest of the 4 (although it's been awhile since I've been to the Madison location). Reminds me more of the Louisville store than the others, except this one isn't cramped, and thus it has room for more stuff, especially vinyl. Sadly, while bigger it has about the same amount of RPGs as the Louisville store. Worth going to if in the area, and is definitely bigger on the inside than it looks outside.

We went to sell some of my 8 yr old sons Pokemon cards. They buy them for about 2c each (depending on rarity) and sell them for about 5c each. Friendly service. Huge selection of records and collector cards. No bicycle parking.

The warehouse sale was very busy. Slightly crowded and warm. It was dimly lit with high hanging fluorescent lights. There was one guy talking the entire 2 hours I was there...to himself and anybody near him. Very annoying and distracting. Took almost 15 minutes to have items counted and boxed then stood in another line to pay. Not a bad sale, but not the best, either.

Is this where those WW2 guys go to escape from the Germans? Disclaimer: Germans are a great people, I as an individual I'm far worse than them when playing video games. If you are looking to be surrounded by people who are too smart for society and sabotage their own careers by sticking to their values then guys this is the place. Wasted half an hour driving here to find out they are now closed Mon/Tues. I would really like to support your business but hard to do when you're not open :-( My fault for not checking online and assuming things relatively back to normal. I'll visit on another day... I love coming to this place and think it's the best comic book shop in town. Giving 4 stars instead of 5 because you have to ask a clerk to see the ASM selection. Come on - it's the most popular title. Many times I'd like to ask to see the selection - and might have bought something that caught my eye - but didn't bother because too much of a hassle to go through all that when I'm not 100% sure I'm going to buy something. Hate to make the clerk stand over me and I end up not finding anything I want to buy. Can you put the high $$ ones on wall and leave the cheap ones in the regular bin for customers to thumb through?

I've loved the Great Escape's various locations ever since moving to Nashville in 1992. I live in Madison, but visit the Charlotte location for sales. Sign up for the email list to get notified of weekly sales. As usual the selection is always broad and you never know what you'll find, but there's always a deal. They always hire happy, enthusiastic people who are music, film, comic and collectibles fans, too. They're always ready with a pleasant conversation and advice. Taking an hour to peruse the shelves is a Great Escape (get it?) from the stresses of life. Add this place to your list of "consumer therapy" hotspots!

Some stereo equipment like turntables, receivers, and speakers. Good selection of organization accessories like cd mailers, record sleeves and jackets, comic book jackets. The music variety is a bit weak, majority is pop/rock, then it skews heavily to stereotypical Nashville music: lots of country, then some bluegrass, folk, americana, religious, and jazz. Other genres are barely represented, such as electronica, rap, reggae, hip hop, world, classical. It's not exactly a record store, but it is one of my top Nashville stores to browse for music.

It's hard to compete with Ebay these days when it comes to comics. The Great Escape tries with an everyday 25% off back issues but the problem is the comics are already marked up an additional 25-35%. If you are lucky you might be able to find one or two deals on older back issues if they run aq 35% off sale, but for the most part you are better off buying on ebay. The main reason I go to TGE is their back issues and i often leave disappointed. at both of their Nashville stores. Their heroes statue or CGC comic section is non-existent, which is a big disappointment for a store of this stature. As far as their used TPB section goes, 25% off some of these is rock solid. I bought three used The Walking Dead TPS which are retail $14.95 for about $5.50 each. The vinyl section is top-notch and hard to compare to anyone else as they have such a variety and there are very few record stores any more. I've found some classic vinyl for about 25% below online pricing. The staff are your typical comic book/record store employees. Some are highly knowledgeable about their areas of expertise but many don't like to interact with real people. Asking the gaming guy about comics is like asking a Mexican day laborer for Calculus tutoring.

For some of the reviews on here, the people didn't realize that there is more than one Great Escape location. Most are reviewing the one on Charlotte Ave. but there is also one on Gallatin Pike in Madison, which is the one I frequent. The Madison location has many more comics, video game and video game systems, and dvd and vhs tapes than the Charlotte location which specializes more in music. And I'm not as familiar with the Charlotte location but the Madison one is always friendly and helpful and you can tell they enjoy working there and buying and selling of memorabilia and collectibles.
