Reviews of Grimey's New & Preloved Music
Very nice selection of records, CD, cassette tapes, videos, books and so much more. They have 2 floors of choice. The staff is helpful and can look up what they have and don't have. I didn't find the 3 bands in particular I was looking for, but did find plenty of things I was not expecting to find. I bought a great double album for the downstairs section of the more obscure. I am most pleased we went here today and look forward to visiting again soon.
My cousin is a huge fan of vinyls and suggested we stop here on our quick trip to Nashville. It was definitely worth it.
The place has a large selection of new and used records on two levels. There are also books (downstairs), CDs and other paraphernalia for sale. A sign is posted outside that highly recommends wearing a mask due to the tight aisles and the high volume/traffic of people in the store. However, masks are not required but all the employees were wearing them.
Parking can be a bit of a challenge. There are other shops that share the same spots so be patient when looking.
Overall if you enjoy browsing a good record store I'd recommend taking a detour over to Grimey's.
Out of all the record stores I’ve been to, this is one of them. They did have an excellent selection of books relevant to modern creative types, from biographies and comedy to self-help and science fiction. The vinyl selection was not only a limited variety but also pretty much the same stale selection you can find in a Walmart. Overall I have to say this place was overhyped, and I won’t make a point of coming back anytime soon.
Went here for an Arlo McKinley album release show, which also includeded free beer. That alone should speak for itself. This place was awesome! They have a massive music selection! The vinyl goes on for days and they still have a decent cd selection form what I can tell. If your a metal head like myself you have to go into the basement to view this section. Should feel right at home though with all the other dungeon dwellers! Will be returning here for future purchases! Did I mention the free beer 🍻!
Grimeys is in this little complex on wonderful stores. They have a wonderful array of records and books in the upstairs and downstairs. Quite the eclectic mix and it's lovely to meander and browse at you leisure. After that, there is a lovely brewery that also sells coffee, plus another 2nd hand clothes shop. You could easily spend hours here between all the shop. As a matter of fact, it would be an amazing day if they had some food option around the area. Then, it would be the best place to spend a leisurely, slightly bohemian shopping afternoon in Nashville.
Fantastic prices on pre-loved vinyl. One of the best record stores in the USA. Jessie Baylin debuted her fantastic new album “Jersey Girl” here in Sept. 2022!
THE record store of Nashville. Because it happens to be THE only record store I've actually been to in Nashville...
Jokes aside though, it's a great little dig. Verrrry big collection upstairs with actually good new stuff, and some quality used stuff too. Downstairs they actually have a really nice selection of literature. Their cassette and metal vinyl sections could be bigger.. but over-all it is a KILLER record shop. Def worth the trip!
A delightful experience to be in a music store!
They featured Allison Russell performing live so I headed there to pick up the new album and also found a couple of used CDs that I'm enjoying too. The staff was fantastically helpful and pleasant!
This place is the best, I run a record shop in Florida and came up to Nashville to search for weird and interesting records, and let me tell you, grimeys was the place to be. No other shop in town holds a candle to this place. Staff is awesome, the selection of both used and new records is awesome, vast, & meticulously organized. They have many cool murals outside and a vast vintage clothing shop out back, Grimeys is the epitome of cool and sets the bar for vinyl record shops in Nashville. If you love records, this is a must visit.
Big THANK YOU! to Grimey’s! I had called several months ago looking for a record from a band out of Nashville. They were going to contact me if they ever got the record in, which turned out to be out of print. Got a call a couple of days ago when a used copy showed up, and because they knew I wanted it. Called me and I had the record w/n two days. THAT IS WHY BRICK & MORTAR RECORD STORES MATTER! Also, WAY below selling price on Discogs. Reach out to them, you never know. A good record store wants to put good music in your hands.
Nashville institution. Nice variety of new and used vinyl. Basement has jazz albums and bookstore. Coffee shop, brewery and vintage clothes next door. Pleasant staff, fair pricing.
Friendly service, great selection of music. Supports local artist.
I felt magically hip walking into this place. Amazing selection of new and pre-owned vinyl as well as books, magazines, and other musical collectibles.
A little out of the way, but worth the journey.
I love all the space in the new location! Always a huge selection of everything. Records owned by Grimey's.....endless collected. Cd's, Records, Cassettes, Books, Rock Toons postcards, Record players, Dark Roast Coffee, All in one music nerd one stop shop!!
Cool spot, only gave a 4 star bc of their lack of classic rock records. For example, I saw a couple Fleetwood Mac, no Stevie Nicks and a couple crapy albums of Pearl Jam. They had one good Pink Floyd album but I already have it.
Very fun record store! Two levels of records and CDs. Lots of signed records too! We spent an hour going through everything.
I love this place and new stage for artists to show case the talent before you purchase music. They sell vinyl and record players even the 45 converters.
Good place to go search for an artist you like. They can help you with your hard to find items. I run into the coolest people there too.
Sign up if your local to win tickets and by them to shows.
Decent record store in the Nashville area. Good selection. The vintage albums were fairly priced and I found an RSD title that I had been looking for. Check it if you’re in the area.
I'm not a big fan of vinyl anymore, but they have a big selection. Great to see an actual record store still.
Went in to find a CD that my friend's nephew dropped off..it was there..awesome..friendly staff..Check him out on Spotify..awesome vibe music..💜 …
This is a very cool store. I love that it features murals of artists. Amongst them is a girl from my county. Very cool to see!
Grimey's is a record/book store in what seems to be an old church in Nashville. The dudes running the place were super cool and held all my records for me at the counter while I searched every inch of the place for gems. I blew my budget but walked out a happy man rich with unique vinyl and some decent prices new pressings. Even some record store day leftovers. The organization is a bit funky but it doesn't take away from the experience. Don't forget the book store down stairs.
Great record shop for vinyl lovers! We are from Seattle and sought out places to shop for records while in Nashville and took in a live performance in the store. There is a great selection of unique records. I will say, however, that the used selection (at Grimey's 2 next door) isn't great, which is why I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5. There is a great community feel in the shop, so it's a must stop for vinyl connectors.
Place was great when it was in the last place, not sure what happened but selection has dropped off some and tye book section used to be the best in Nashville.
awesome place! had a wonderful time looking through their used and $1 section vinyls! found an album that my boyfriend has always wanted for $1, and in great condition! would recommend stopping in and looking around! the guys there are super helpful and even tracked down some artists that i was searching for!
Always a good selection of current country/pop country and local artist records. Not always the best/widest selection of choices otherwise. If you are looking for records in solid condition from well known/popular artists, this is your place. Eclectic mix of sale used records. They are, however, always willing to help you find something or order. For used vinyl, maybe McKay's is better. For new vinyl, this is the place for sure.
Great selection of new and used records, and don't miss the bookstore downstairs. Staff very friendly and helpful, if you can't find what you're looking for just ask and they will call you when it's in stock. Records are fairly priced (usually slightly below the price you'll pay on Discogs) Plus cool free music events sometimes!
Cool record shop with a great selection. Snagged a few vinyls & so did my friends. If you're looking to add to your collection you can't go wrong checking out Grimey's.
Grimey's is a Historic Landmark of Nashville that should have been historically preserved, and will be sorely missed when they relocate. No other record store that comes into town can provide the value, history and reputation that grimeys holds. I've seen since I've seen some of my favorite artist play in store for a very intimate show and waited in line for hours to get my music signed. You know you never know what you're going to get when you're in there. The free PBR during the in-store performances is the cherry on top.
Great selection, tons of atmosphere, and a wonderful staff. I always spend far too much of my money at Grimey's!
Always enjoy my visits to Grimey's. If you're an audiophile, then this is the place for you!
Old and new type music, prices varies from 99 cents and up. Very nice staff
Love this record store. There is also a vintage clothing behind it and a great coffee/brew pub with relaxed atmosphere
A really beautiful spot for an intimate performance. It just felt a little claustrophobic with as many people came to the allen stone show since you're amongst the rows of shelves. Had a slight heat induced panic attack due to the amount of people
Records, books, in-store events, new music, old music, used music, coffee - Grimey's is the best! Every time I pop in! I figured something I've been looking for or didn't know I needed. Love the new location.
Great place to stop and check out a wide variety of records and other music things! Was able to pick up records including a record day exclusive. Staff is awesome and super helpful. Great first time and if I’m ever in the area would love to swing back by.
before vacationing to Nashville, i looked up a blog post of where to go to buy vinyl. Grimey’s was the number one spot to check out, and i’m glad i went! i’m a huge fan of Paramore, and saw where they raved about them on Instagram, and knowing my favorite band recommends them made it so much better.
opening hours were a weeeee bit different on the door than online, so i got a little nervous walking in but i got better when i saw some people in there. i was blown away by their selection, as it was bigger than my local record store at home. they have anything from classics, local bands, used records, to new music that hit the market just that week. i picked up Paramore’s self titled album (as stated, i love me some Paramore), and was impressed by not only the condition, but by the price point!! it was a couple dollars cheaper than my record stores at home, so that was my moment of being more in love. the staff was super nice, very very chill, and even complimented on my necklace i was wearing, which made me do a little happy dance because i loved the atmosphere a lot. definitely recommend to stop by when visiting, it’s such an amazing spot for new and old!!
below is a pic from the outside view, and it’s been edited so that’s why it looks like it’s rustic. :”-)
Wow, great record store. Prices, staff, selection, atmosphere were excellent during my visit. I will make it a priority to return next time I'm in town!
Grimey's is not only a Nashville staple, it is one of the most well-known music stores anywhere. It's not huge, but it has history and a connection to the music industry like no other. Artists themselves love Grimey's. We barely missed running into Lucius today, and they had a selection of signed albums from the Black Keys. And amazingly, their record prices are some of the best around. Grimey's is a must for a music lover in Nashville.
Great selection of music, good location and parking. Worth checking out!
Space has a chill vibe. Decent but not amazing selection of used tunes.
Could have a better selection of artists, most of their records are sealed and expensive. CD's are bit more pricey than some other places. I recommend McKays for a better selection of CD's and Vinyl, though all used. This store specializes in new CDs and Vinyl but at a higher price.
Have lots of time if you want to find the bargains. Great prices, large selections of all kinds of music, friendly staff. A really ole time record store!!
What's not to love!! It's one of my favorites. I always find a good book.
This place is like a vinyl collectors dream. They have thousands of records and CD'S. The staff is always helpful and willing to find what you're looking for. I definitely spend too much money here.
I was passing through Nashville and wanted to stop at a record store, and I’m so glad I chose this one. I loved that people were masked and sanitizer was provided, so that even in a crowded Black Friday shopping experience, I felt safe. Friendly employees, organized vinyl, and very fair prices. You won’t leave empty handed.
Can always find things I want and the extra great finds I wasn't exactly looking for.
Amazing atmosphere! I was able to find several albums that I couldn't online. If they will start carrying Shinedown vinyl I'll buy them there!! 👍🏼😎 …
I've been to a lot of music shops in my time, and this place puts them all to shame. If this shop only consisted of the first floor it would be enough to make it my favorite record store. There are so many good vinyls here I can't truly describe it other than to tell you to see it for yourself. If you are as much as an audiophile as myself, you are guaranteed to find something you will like, and the prices are actually not too bad for the quality of music on display. As in you'll more than likely pay the same as an album from Target, at least for the new ones. The pre-loved albums are extremely reasonably priced, and I picked up three CDs for less than five dollars.
Downstairs there is a larger than expected selection of quality books, along with more music. I mean it when I say quality. I could honestly see myself blindly grabbing a book from the shelf and being happy with my selection. There were even several I hope are still there when I can return with a higher budget.
Oh yes, I will return. Hopefully for one of the concerts that takes place on the stage set up on the main floor. I may be relatively new to Nashville, this place is one of the best thing the city has to offer.
Great record shop and friendly staff. Vinyl heads visiting town will be pleased making time to stop by!
This place is great. Well stocked and great music choices. A great spot to see a live band in an intimate setting!
Best record store in town. Great vibes, knowledgeable staff and a good book section alongside the expansive vinyl options. I miss the old location but the stage in the new building makes in-store performances much more enjoyable for everyone. Long live Grimey’s!
Epic record store with a wide selection. Def go!
Great Selection of Record Store Day vinyl on Sunday... As well as Very interesting curated books; both new and used! They are still enforcing Face Masks... I had no problem... But if you do- you won't get in! Also they are in fact open on Sunday so check the hours that google says they are closed because they might actually be open... Catalog bins are pretty thin- but heck, they are just recovering from CoVid and the tornado!!!
Had a bad experience at Great Escape Records, came here and had the total opposite! Friendly people who know their music and like to talk about it. By far the hippest record store in Nashville!
Large selection of old and new, great atmosphere and quick service.
Awesome record shop. Great selection and very helpful staff. If you are into vinyl you have got to go here.
Loved walking around here, searching through all the vinyl!
Good place full of old and new music, no paramore vinyl, but plenty of cool cd's. They also have books.
I attended an album debut concert at Grimey's and was pleasantly surprised at the friendliness of the staff. It was pretty warm inside, but they packed 120 people in that building so it's understandable.
Love the new location. So much more room for more records. Plus an awesome stage for performances. Downstairs has a big bookstore and lots of other things and more records. Go outside of that and their is a coffee shop and a clothing/thrift store. Much to enjoy! One of my favorite places to go in Nashville! 😍👍 …
Nice place for vinyl. I saw some reviews that said it was well organized, and maybe they are referring to the downstairs section where all vinyl is new. There is a pretty good selection of used vinyl, but the categories were not helpful. I was on the prowl for Jazz/Blues and these sections were practically non-existent. The guy showed me the tiny jazz section which consisted of about a dozen records and stated they were all smooth jazz. They were a little better than smooth jazz, but I found that most of the jazz is mixed in with the other used vinyl. Be sure to work your way from A-Z and you'll find some standard jazz in there. No holy grail finds, but some decent records and decent prices.
The "just in" section had some goodies too. All with great prices. Maybe jazz is not overly popular, or they don't have a good 'jazz' employee to flag this stuff, but I'd recommend a trip in. There are deals to be found!
Great variety, great finds, great vibes. The guys that work here are friendly and helpful. Love the art on the building. We were able to meet one of the artists while there and she was really friendly. Will definitely be returning here
They always have the new releases I'm looking for, they're used section is usually filled with albums i just HAVE TO get, and they've got a great book section downstairs filled with classic and modern must-reads. In store performances by bands you wouldn't believe. Staff is super cool and helpful. One of, if not #1, the best record stores in Nashville.
This place is great! Has two stories, which is super cool because there is different music playing on each level. There is books there too. The prices are great and there is a great selection of used records as well. The workers are very engaging and helpful!! Check this place out!
We travel the us for a living. My wife was coming back from Kentucky and the last thing on our Christmas list to get was a Shawn mendes cd to put my 7 year olds Shawn mendes concert tickets in. I looked all over on my trip across the country the week before and couldn’t find one anywhere. She was coming through Nashville so I called every cd store in Nashville and one of them out of the whole city had a cd and it’s his new one Wonder. It was Grimeys that had one in stock. So I sent the info to my wife and she gets to this random vintage music store in Nashville that I found on google. She asks for Shawn mendes he pulls out two copies and one was autographed!! They didn’t even know they had got an autographed copy in. One was and one wasn’t. So she bought him the autographed copy of the album for the same price as a non autographed one. What’s the odds of that happening? Thanks Grimey’s, you gave a Christmas miracle to a little 7 year old boy that’s going to be super happy this Christmas because of your store. The odds of it all working out like it did are too great for it not to be something more. Thanks again Grimeys!!
I started buying CDs here at age 16 in 2001. At their old location I always felt at home, felt appreciated, and left with new music and new ideas. I started buying vinyl here in 2017. At first I was saddened by their move to east Nashville, but later I realized how the extra space helps them help more people. I still feel at home, feel appreciated, and leave with new music and ideas. I left today with 2 used albums and 2 new, 1 of which was special ordered for me. They have given impressive customer service since I was essentially a kid, and the trend continues today. Bottom line is I don't often enough write words of appreciation for amazing places like Grimey's, but today I realized I needed to share how positively impactful this place has been in my musical life. If you're thinking about going, just go. You'll find something great and you may leave with something you never heard of that might well change you for the better. It's happened to me many times.
Ordered a record online, but they ended up not actually having it in stock anymore and had to send a refund. But not only that, Will tried to find me a copy online at other stores and linked me the record on Discogs where I could get it. Great place!
Must check this East Nashville gem out if you love books or records! Great building as well. Usually have a live band..you never know whom you might come across. Great selection of vinyl. World famous.
One of my favorite record stores I've been to. Employees are nice and helpful, and it's awesome to have Frothy Monkey in the back serving up great grub and delicious coffee. Not just limited to vinyl though, they also have a great selection of a variety of books, magazines, CDs, and cassettes. If you love music then you'd be doing yourself an injustice by not visiting here!
Historic Record store and live music venue in Nashville, TN. Not to be missed by any music, and especially vinyl lover.
East Village NYC record store vibe in East Nashville. VERY cool. Awesome inventory of alternative vinyl, books and movies. Could've stayed there for hours.
Great place. The parking for this place is an absolute nightmare. The employees are nice, the atmosphere is great and there is even live music in The Basement.
Prices are a bit much and the selection is lacking
Great selection spanning a whole two buildings. Great place to go if you're already in Nashville but I wouldn't recommend taking a special trip here from the surrounding cities.
Decent selection, media was organized well. Prices are high compared to online stores. We do like to support local businesses and purchased seven records while we were there however we could have saved ~$45 by shopping online.
What an awesome record store. My first experience was going for the record release show of Marcus King. I couldn't believe the owners were welcoming everyone in with smiles, even standing outside in the cold greeting customers before the doors opened. I was even more surprised when we walked in they were offering free wine, beer, and soft drinks. I mean who does that???? It was even a free show. The place was packed with people still lined up outside after the show waiting to get in. I had my young boys and the staff was incredibly friendly even offered crayons for the little dudes to keep them occupied. I walked out with a record, free posters and stickers, delighted ears, and a feeling like I robbed that nice family owed shop. It was a great time. Incredible vinyl, cd, and book collection! It's definitely a needed stop for any and every future Nashville trip. Thank you Grimeys for your hospitality and ensuring everyone had a great night!
Visited this location for the first time on Record Store Day. Though the line was long, there was a lot going on outside with food trucks and music. Came away with some awesome new music I saw a bunch of wonderful deals. The upstairs had music going all day. Can't wait to return to this location when there isn't a line wrapped around the building.
The lady helped us in every way, find what we were looking for and was really kind! The store is really nice and clean. Super cool looking too. Great atmosphere, not a bunch of too loud annoying music playing. It was just right.
Really enjoyed going here with a few friends of mine. Huge selection of vinyls and cd's from many different genres. The employees there were friendly and very helpful when we asked them about a certain artist. I look forward to going back here sometime in the future!
Great selection of vinyl, CD's, cassettes, books and movies. There is also free coffee. I've been going here for years, since the original location, I am very pleased with this company and I hope to see it prosper as Nashville grows.
No better place to shop for great music, gifts and such. Or even just grab a gift certificate so your gift recipient can pick out their perfect gift.
Knowledgeable staff. Great recommendations. Can listen before you buy. Found a lot of good local bands. Stayed maybe two and a half hours. Just not many great record stores left in our commercial digital age. Pilgrimage.
To begin, they limit the number of patrons in the store, thankfully. Second, they have a great selection of mainstream vinyl and a lot of awesome local artist's music!!
Among the finest choices of vinyl records I've seen. Most of the classics and obscure records you can usually only find online. But here you can browse while you hear other music. And, they have a small bookstore downstairs that appeals to those who don't swim the mainstream.
If you are a lover of music, this place is a must see. There is such a phenomenal selection of cassettes, cds, vinyl records that it’s hard not to walk out with an arm full of items. To my surprise there is also a great film selection showcasing rare Criterion Collections and even selling books.
The best record store in Nashville hands down, and one of the best remaining ones in the US. Great vinyl selection! Great new and used CD's and vinyl. There's a coffee shop, and a fabulous bookstore, particularly for books and magazines on music topics.
I literally had as much fun as one could have with their clothes on. We watched The Dead South play an intimate setting. The environment was awesome with a combination of true fans and a few people that happened to find out about a free show. Free, and delicious beer was offered pre show. We also purchased some CDs and had a great time perusing albums.
Before heading to Grimey's I had low expectations, because of the area that it is in, but I am completely wrong. The area is up and coming. This is my new favorite record store. I found all my favorite bands. I will for sure be back. I hear they even have live music there on occasion!
By far the best record store in Nashville. Their selection is solid, prices are mostly comparable with online shops and in-store performances occur often. The new location on Trinity has elevated them 100% giving them more space, more parking and most importantly more records!
If you are in to collecting pre-owned vinyl, you will love this place. I spent two hours going through the stacks. Ended up with 14 albums for a total of $21. The staff was also helpful by taking time to show some speakers to me and answer my questions. I never made it to look at the used cds or the new vinyl and cds. Check their store out.
Outstanding. Very cool place with a really cool vibe. Vintage vinyl, collectable discs, live DVDs - this place has it all. Everything was packaged well there was no bad odors in the store. Allot of these places smell like smoke or pot and it runs everything in the place. Grimmy's is clean and cool.
A definite place for audiophiles and a cool place to check out for tourists.
Really nice looking place, had a bookstore next to it as well. The vinyls are sold at good prices and there were lots of hipsters. My only complaint is that its a little hard to back your car out of especially when its crowded.
I like the new church spot and the performance area. I don't buy records anymore because I don't want to own anything but I still apperciate them. This trip to Nashville was cool. Went with some friends and randomly messaged a flight attendant on IG and I read a response from her wrong and took it as flirting. It was cool. We still message daily and even make out and fall in love more. We even do it. So yeah. Go message a babe from here. It is worth it. Oh yeah they had free beer and are super supportive of musicians and artists
New location is sweeeeeet! Great selection, two levels of goodness and seeing in-stores here is actually like going to a real venue, and for a band it's a lot easier than crowding into some record stacks (which was sort of fun, I'll admit) but I'd much rather play on a stage above the record stacks.
fantastic music selection. the new/used book section was equally impressive.
Met Melanie Martinez here back in May of 2016. Great experience. There was some screaming homeless guy there. But nothing the business could help. They made sure everyone was okay and ran the guy off. So, I guess that counts. As for the store itself, it's lovely. I love the vibe of it. I've bought a few records from her before. Totally recommend you go there some time.
The best record shop I have ever been to. I found albums I had been searching for forever. The parking is a little dicey, but the staff are waiting to help you find what you need, and the building itself is pretty cool.
Great place to browse through tons of great quality used vinyl and used books. If you're a vinyl junky, this is probably one of the best record stores in Nashville.
One of my favorite places to find old favorite albums as well as new releases. Browsing the used records is always fun as you never know what you'll find! Great for for locals and visitors alike!
I absolutely love this store it was my first time here and I will be back. The cashier is very honest he accidentally shorted me 20 but it wasn't on purpose it got stuck in the drawer and he caught it before I did it came up to me and said hey count your change. Very honest guy great store
Such a great selection for music lovers of all genres! Could spend hours in this store and still would have a lot of music to go through! A great location for new and old vinyls to be bought!
Great, COZY spot a friend of mine showed me many years ago before an Elvis Costello show at Ryman. A music geek’s happy place... 🤤😈 Great selection of obscure/contemporary classics on all formats and even had some great live events before COVID. Hope that resumes! …
Grimey's is the quintessential Nashville experience you're looking for. Best selection of vinyl. Great album release shows. Friendly people that will help you find what you don't even know you want. Don't miss it.
This is a place to come and take your time to look at their collections of records, cd's, etc. I was looking for two different artists and found neither. One was a blue grass group so I was kind of surprised not to be able to find it. The clerk was courteous, even helping to look up items on their computer system for us. Small parking lot. There is a downstairs with books and a clean restroom. A little annoying to negotiate when looking for something specific because other customers are standing in front of the albums and checking them out closely. If we weren't just traveling thru we might have spent more time and been more patient.
Heard about this place through the announcement of an acoustic show by Bayside. What a stellar place. Everyone there was genuinely a music enthusiast, and approachable about music questions. They have an assortment of "preloved" records and just about all of the latest releases. Snatched a rare find, and picked up the new Bayside record. Joshua was especially great, and I want to thank him again for being so nice!
Great record store. Really good selection. Has CDs too. Tons of collectables and box sets. Knowledgeable helpful staff who aren't condescending. Always courteous, not pushy, but they are visible. They aren't going to bug you, but also won't act like you're bugging them if you need help.
This place has a great collection of vinyl and periodically hosts live events. The staff is friendly and helpful, and you can preview both CDs and vinyl via in-store equipment.
LOVE THIS PLACE!! You can probably guess 10 reasons why I would love a record shop in Nashville that has live music... but today I love it because they had TWEN play there at Noon on a Saturday 🙏🤘 …
So cool! Vinyl Rules !
Grimey and Crew are top shelf!
I love Grimey's. I wish they'd cut back on the experimental noise they sometimes play in there but the store can't be denied when it comes to new music and releases. The downstairs book selection is fabulous!
Almost TOO many good CDs and vinyl, and *very* reasonably priced to boot. Tons of special editions and box sets, amd everything's organized fastidiously. Great selection of books downstairs, too. RIP wallet 😅 …
Staff not very friendly or helpful! Needs improvement! Building is great! Love it! Hire more females we love to talk!🤣 …
Big selection, quick checkout, well organized but sometimes hard to navigate regardless. Artists play live events sometimes too, and when they do, the audio is high quality, and not too loud for me.
For a wide range of vinyl and CDs including both new release and classic options you can't go wrong with Grimeys. The staff is willing to help search their inventory for specific albums saving those in a hurry time.
Great record store, reminded me of the record stores of the past that I used to go to.
Always so much fun to hunt down a few faves.....great selections.....
I enjoyed our shopping at Grimey's. We dropped a hundred bucks on some great metal finds (Clutch, Sepultura, Trivium) on CD and vinyl. Plenty of metal and rock albums to thumb through. New product seems a bit pricy but I found things that I wouldn't have found in most other stores. Used items, preloved or not, are very reasonably priced. Had to park across the street and play frogger to get to the store but it ended up being worth the effort.
One of my favorite places to stop whenever I'm in Nashville. Great place to browse, and a good selection of local acts. They have everything from death metal (picked up a Cannibal Corpse album) to EDM, pop, rock, indie, electronica, and Top 40 stuff too. One time when I was there they were just handing out PBRs.
Nashville's original new and pre-owned record store. If you're looking good to buy music in a physical format in Nashville, this the place to do it. Try to catch an in store for an up coming local show to see so cool live music too.
This record store certainly stands out from many others. Beautiful high ceilings, an incredible and diverse selection of vinyl at reasonable prices, and of course the in-store shows are always a treat.
Cool place lots of records, there's two floors and a coffee place right next to it, I didn't but anything but there is a huuuuge selection I'm sure you'll find what you need
Vibe: Whether its your first time or you are a returning customer, most polite, enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff you can find in Nashville. They continually find innovative ways to stay involved in the community, have awesome events and make music more exciting than clicking to download and then never listening to it again.
Selection: Very very good selection. If you are still a CD buff, both used and new is fantastic. If you are a record person, their new record selection is fantastic, used records could be a bit better (selection wise), but not the end of the world. Most stuff now gets released on Vinyl + MP3 download, so both my turntables and MP3 players are happy. Between Vinyl and CD it is very rare to be looking for something and for them NOT to have it, or be able to get it in. And you can find some real jems among their collections too.
Pricing: Some people complain about their pricing, and there are some records that I feel are overpriced (Arcade Fire comes to mind). That being said, most pricings are very good and consistent with other Indie record stores nationwide. I'd rather spend $15 on a great sounding record at Grimeys than $10 for a CD at Wal-Mart or $8 for a digital download. Honestly, anything you invest in this place goes right back to the community in my opinion, so its totally worth it. And if you buy music from Wal-mart, you aren't a supporter of the Arts anyway.
My only complaint is that they have so much good stuff to get it is very easy to go from buying "just 1 record" to spending over $100. So if you are going in just to get whatever new release, beware, because you will always find more.
I have been to record shops in Chicago, St Louis, Allentown, Austin, etc, and Grimeys is still up there with the best of them with its own unique vibe and feel. A must for anyone in town.
They always help me find the record I'm searching for, whether or not it's in the store. The parking is a lot better than the old 8th Avenue location.
By far one of the best record shops I have ever been too. Such a cool atmosphere and vibe. They have a great selection and I found several I have been on the hunt for!
It's ok, not the best brewery but a decent one, if you don't care much about your beer or want a coffee definitely a 5 stars then!
If I go through Nashville again, I will most definitely stop by here again. Could have easily gone broke there if I stayed any longer.
Just left there, what an amazing experience. I would highly recommend. Found some pretty great stuff by Pat Benatar, I thought I'd never find. They were having a show today unbeknownst to me, getting out of the parking lot was a bit tricky but oh so worth it. I will definitely be going back.
if i ever wanted to open a record store, it would seriously mimick this one. it's worth the drive everytime, i mean you cant complain with a friendly staff, rare finds, vinyls out the a$$, live shows and the guarantee that you'll find atleast something during your visit. new indie releases for CHEAP whether new or used? hell yes!
Love this place with all my heart. As indie as a record shop could ever be, with free in store performances on the regular. Always has what you’re looking for. Viva La Grimeys!!!
I love the new Grimey's and highly recommend it! The employees are excellent, helpful, friendly and give great customer service. I always find preloved, new, CDs, vinyl and books for my collection. 🎼🎤🎸🎵🥁 …
Wow.
A friend took me over to East Nashville, saying "You're going to love this place".
Guess what? He was right.
Not only did the jave cool, friendly and knowledgeable staff, the inventory of music, clothing and instruments makes for one of, if not thee, hippest places in all Nashville.
Best record store. Local artists. Nice staff
Pretty cool little shop! Don't forget to check downstairs! Big selection, ACTUALLY HAS A METAL CATEGORY; it's small but it's like the only one around soky/tn.
Grimey's is one of the few places left where you can go buy physical copies of music. Their artist release shows are always awesome, crowded, but a great way to see some promising up and comers.
This is a great store conserning new vinyl. I think they have every note recorded to vinyl in stock. However, there are no -infact there are like 5 boxes- second hand records, which is a pitty.
Saw some really great shows here during Americana Fest. I love the comfortable, mid century modern vibe and the staff is beyond friendly, even when the room is packed with 150+ people!
Cool store, great selection of new records. Found some awesome blues records I haven't seen in a while.
Great little record shop. Books store in basement has interesting titles.
We stopped by yesterday to look at used CDs & found out local legend John Hiatt had an "in-store" scheduled for today! We attended, it was great! Decent CD selection, too...
The best record store in the country
Mr Grimes is the best! He put my mind at ease at our first meet, got my case dismissed, and is a very down to earth person. his office and staff is very helpful. Highly recommended and forever my attorney!
Best place to get all the records you can dream of and then some.
Excellent COVID safety protocol and progressive staff and ownership that care about the wellbeing of each and every customer and their community.
Great record store, lots of good finds and great book selection at Howlin Books. & a frothy Monkey next door for a great experience. One of the few store in town my husband and I can go to together.
Heaven on earth for music enthusiasts. Best selection of vinyl, cassettes, CD and more. In store live music events and great staff.
One of the best record stores I've been to. Amazing selection and reasonable prices (for what it's worth now that vinyl is so popular and overpriced).
One of the last, true vestiges of a "record shop"! As a kid, they were everywhere. I even saw Motley Crue at Rivergate at Cat's (behind Arby's in the early 80's). So, I was pleasantly surprised when my daughter took me to watch a secret show/meet and greet with the 1975 at Grimey's!!!
So, if you want to buy a Sam Cooke album, where do you go? Wreka Sto!
The best record store in the mid-south, bar none. I can always count on Grimeys whether I'm looking for a new release, or want to be surprised while crate digging.
Sweet record store with an excellent selection of new and pre-owned vinyl. Well organized with lots of stock. Highly recommend Grimey's.
The selection is good. Prices are a bit main stream, but somewhat manageable.
Rad store. Cool employees. Nice selection. Sometimes some nice live jams.
Great selection. Dad loved his Christmas gift,
Love coming here! Saw BJ Barnum and Lissie in the same week Love the history & the shows. Recently heard location is moving, hope it's a nice upgrade for them!
Grimey’s has plenty of parking, very knowledgeable staff, great selection, and they’ll order just about any new thing you need. The free shows are great also.
Historic record store, definitely fun to browse and check out. They don't have what I'm lookin for tho, being bluegrass, jam grass and pop punk.
Went for record store day. Waited for 2 hours to get our turn in the shop but it was worth it. We got our limited release records we wanted and the staff was great to talk with.
Saw a great show there on S 8th. Haven't been to the new location yet. They do have tons of vinyl..
Clean. Great selection of music and books. Would love to catch an in-store performance the next time I'm there. Oh, and there's free coffee.
It is Nashville's pre-eminent indy record store. Music, in all its perfect physical formats, is stocked wall-to- wall on two levels. You must go.
Great place to get some music. Wide variety of new and preloved music. Also don't forget to pick up some concert Tix for a great show you may want to check out.
Great place to find music of all kinds!! One of my favorites
It's nice to still be able to go into a physical record store that has a metric ton of variety
What a gem in Nashville. Tremendous selection of new vinyls (new and old music). And used vinyls right next door at Grimey's too. Best in town.
It would have gotten a 5 star if they used side was still open. Luckily they are moving to a new place in September. Staff is helpful and will search for anything you might be looking for. Even stuff they don't sell.
The used section is a little hard to maneuver around but the rest was great!! Staff helped us track down vinyl and we left with lots of goodies.
Amazing place to shop for new and vintage music. I love that they support local musicians and bands with new music releases and performances.
Grimey's is one of the pioneers of the Nashville music scene. They not only offer one of the most comprehensive record collections, but they also have in-store concerts and The Basement—a staple music venue in Nashville—is directly below.
Awesome I'm so glad I was told about this store, my debit card not so much. Haha the people were friendly and the prices on the cds were great. I'll be back.
One of the great record shops in America. If you love vinyl then you come here.
The customer service was wonderful..
The greatest record store I've been to. If you like crate digging you have to go here. I could have spent hours and thousands!
Awesome record store with great selection and on point pricing.
I am thrilled your back! THE BEST! Been going for 20 year's and I'm from Boston! Favorite store in all of land!
Place is always great. Excellent place for your vinyl equipment record players needles. And the art.
Cool store. Huge selection. Good vibes.
No idea why we slept on this place. Its the only record store in town that's worth the drive. Spent way too much money, and plan to do so again very soon.
Great place. Love the staff. Good music and books. Always stop whenever I'm around. Pop up live shows are the best
Pretty good selection, AND! Groovy looking store with nice staff. And cool free stickers! Go check it :)
What's not to like. Nashville institution has taken on a new life over on the east side. Still the same great shop it's always been.
Good collection of new & used.
What an awesome little spot, with the coolest book selection. Some rare vinyls, too!
Great selections among all genres. They play great music all day. Live performances. Solid metal section downstairs.
First record store done moving from Austin to Nashville. Happy to find a good one near my house
Great all the way around.
Such a huge selection of records. Definitely recommend if you love vinyl.
Beautiful setting, friendly knowledgeable staff, and a great selection. Grimeys is one of the best record stores in the country.
Super cool local record shop! The small venue downstairs is super intimate and really nice! The selection of records is very good too!
The place has a really good selection. Highly recommend to anyone who is looking for any vinyls.
Bless y’all. Beautiful location, fabulous staff! Lots of wonderful music and books to discover. A Nashville institution.
Didn't think they'd have anything for me but I was wrong.
Local legend and a good store. New location is pretty good. Looks to still be growing nearby ( other businesses) that could make this a neat stop.
Very friendly and nostalgic. Reminds me of when I used to go to the record shops in downtown Seattle as a teenager. Definitely two thumbs up.
Nashville is very lucky to have such a wonderful record store. Love them.
Phenomenal place, I picked up a lot of gems for very reasonable prices. Highly recommend going there, I'll definitely be going back
Multiple listening areas, CDs, records galore, tapes and books! Best store and it's only a mile from my house.
Awesome record store. Great selection. If they don't have it in sock, they can order almost anything.
Great place! Lots of vinyl and got to see Tommy Immanuel and John Knowles play!
Great place for recorded and live music!
Great selection of new and used music. Plus we happened on a live a great live show that day.
Old school vibes. Great place to find records!
Great new selection and organization. Haven't really dove deep but it seems like like a strong selection and the concerts are a bonus.
Made an online order for a record. Shipped quick and excellent customer service long distance. Thanks so much!
Best record store I've been to yet in Nashville, plus it's above the basement so that's a bonus
Love the new E. Nashville store even more. First quality used and new LPs and books.
Great record store, fun feel and decent selection.
They have so much to browse through and I could spend days in there. Great prices! Something for everyone also
Very cool place. Lots of great vinyl.....great prices
Best place to buy Lambchop records.
The only place for vinyl & so other music in Nashville!! Give Grimey's a shot; you'll be a customer for life!
It's Grimeys! Give them your money!
Best selection in Tennessee. I've had the pleasure to shop here for 5 years now and every visit is a delight
Grimey's rules! Great selection, excellent in-stores, helpful staff. One of the best record stores on the planet.
Even though the prices are great, i still ended up spending alot of money here. Too much good music
Fun to browse any independent record store, this one is quintessential Nashville.
Nice environment. Caters to many musical tastes, emphasis on local music.

Glad we got to experience Grimeys before they moved. A real icon. Some great finds for our collection.
I absolutely love this place! I come in once a week (at least). The staff are very helpful and nice and that keeps me coming in.
Excellent shop, with tons of merchandise. You could probably find just about any album here
Wonderful low-key record shop with great range of new/unopened records across many genres.
They have a pretty great bookstore downstairs too! Make sure to check them out.
This place is cool! Great concerts and selections of vinyl.
Found some cool vinyl in a smallish shop with a solid collection. Glad I stopped by.
A must stop and see place in Nashville. Grab a "piece of vinyl" or two :-)
Sooooooo many albums, great prices. Awesome book selections
I Love Grimey's!!! I have been to a lot of record stores and I must say that Grimey's is top notch in my opinion.
They have pretty much everything you'd want. And if they don't, the staff is so knowledgeable, they will offer a myriad of alternative suggestions based on your tastes.
Great if you're into vinyl, not so great if you're looking for cd's
Great place in Nashville to find very reasonable priced vinyl.
Great place to find good releases and nicely kept pre-loved records 👍 …
Seems like they always get some of my money when I'm in town. Recommended.
Great selection of new and pre-loved music and books. Nice helpful staff.
Excellent selection and friendly staff. The second-hand part is less impressive, likely due to the many customers picking it clean.
What a great new location, nothing will replace the old Grimey's but this is quite a nice space!
Beautiful record store with great sound system for musician drop ins!
We always find a new treasure every time we go! Love record shopping at Grimey’s!
