Reviews of Electric Fetus
not ur cup of tea
I absolutely LOVE this record store. So many things to look at, huge variety of music to choose from. Very curated and thought out. I got my favorite cardigan from here and I always get asked where I got it from. Electric Fetus is the go-to spot for sure.
Greg Zillgitt
Visited this iconic record store with my grandson who was looking for a har-to-find vinyl album of some new hip-hop artist whose names escapes me. He was amazed at the vinyl selection and found what he was looking forward. This was a cool place to shop when I was young, and it still is.
Note that as of 2 April 2022 they still require masks, which makes them something of an outlier. Everyone in the store seemed to respect the rule.

Came here for my very first Record Store Day as a new vinyl collector. As expected, the place was PACKED. Staff was extremely nice, and the place is gorgeous! I've never seen so many albums in one place before!!! Scored just the albums that I wanted, a mix of both used and new. Prices can run a little high, especially if it's a brand new album, but it's definitely fun to even just look around. Will definitely come here again. :)
James Albinson
This record store means business in the best way. What do you like? Vinyl, CD’s and everything in between. Last visit I bought their new “Purple Rain” loose leaf tea and found it lovely.
Robin Bohumil
Great selection and nice staff. Being able to browse the stacks and immerse yourself in a classic record store experience with other music lovers is worth the dollar or two extra you might spend vs an anonymous online retailer. They've got a decent used selection as well if you are budget sensitive. One of the best ever record shops.
Jorey Shallcross
The best record store I've ever been in, hands down. Plus a bonus section of local and quirky gifts and memorabilia
CykoMF Harley
Probably the biggest, best and longest surviving record shop in the area. Serving a very diverse assortment of musical styles and related paraphernalia. The scented candles and incense in the front of the shop are a bit strong for those sensitive to it. This is not another dingy head shop, these are nice giftable items, very organized and artfully displayed. Well lit clean shop, worth the stop.

Great vibe but overrated.
The place has a fun gift shop and an impressive selection of records, but their vinyl is always more expensive than any other shop in the city.
Last time I was here I bought an album with a warped record and staff had acted as though no one has ever had the issue before when I went back in to exchange it. I get that no one wants to get stuck with defective vinyl but it unfortunately happens sometimes.
I’ll be back, but I’ll remain a regular at some other record stores in the city.
Curtis Neff
I once asked if a record playing in the store was s band I thought I recognize and with hostility and smugness was informed rudely it was another band. If you are at all insecure about exploring music don’t go here. The staff know they have the coolest retail job in the twin cities. Don’t mess with the hipsters. They are just waiting to correct you.
Pricey as well
Mark M.
I love the vibe of this place, friendly staff and the immense selection of records this store offers. I am giving this place 5-stars but I wouldn't shop here every single time when I want to purchase records because the prices here can get expensive if you buy many records at once go to another place for that, but sometimes you can find great deals here too on new records like I did for Daft Punk's Homework LP. Overall, this one of the coolest stores I have been to in the Twin Cities especially if you're looking for records, or a nice gift.
Stacia Stone
Admittedly, I am bias as this place shaped me as a human being, but I think The Electric Fetus is a Minnesota landmark and a must-visit if you’re in the area. I love a couple things most of all:
1. The staff, they’re all kind with great taste
2. The dedication to marking Minnesota musicians in their collection. If you’re new to the area or just starting to get into the local scene, their green local artist tabs will be your guiding light.
3. The scent of the store. Best incense blend I’ve ever encountered.
John
This is one of my favorite stores in Minneapolis. They have an amazing selection of records, and all for good prices. You can spend hours flipping through their record and CD collections, always having to force myself to leave before I spend too much money! It's definitely my #1 recommendation for anyone who's into vinyl/CD collecting, or just for anyone who loves music.
Kelly Below
One of the coolest and best stocked record stores around, from old to new this is the place to come to get your vinyl. They have a nice lot for parking and are right near a ton of other cool restaurants and neighborhoods.
The Green Fur
It has a great gift shop, but the main attraction is further back, the records, there are so many artists to chose from, a majority of them are new, there's not a lot of used records, and even better, the records are at an acceptable price, if you're into vinyl collecting, this is the right place for you!
CT D (The Dr.)
So much great music in multiple formats, and a ton of cool merch, to boot? Yes please! Great selection of new and used vinyl.
Lisa Ross
Princes favorite record store!
We went to check this store out mainly because Prince supposedly loved the place. Looks like a small store, but looks are deceiving. This is a Vinyl album lovers paradise! Rows upon rows of records! Many other cool things in the store too. You can get Prince merchandise, posters, clothes, and many little fun things. Must go check it out, cool place!
Michael-John Longtin
The record store is expansive. I found a few great eclectic vinyls and then swung by the gift shop, which has some interesting local flavors. Creaky old floors from all the vinyl sifters before me. Adds to the mystiq.
Judy Rygh
It was like going back in time!! Found a couple vintage albums and the guys behind the counter were really cute and friendly.
Joe Getse
Lots of LP's, cd stock sort of random. They need to sort better by style. No specific punk section.
Jay Canales
This place is super nostalgic, I’m glad it’s still around. Great place for gift shopping and a must see historic site, don’t go to Minneapolis without stopping in the electric fetus, you’ll be glad u did.
DeAndre Jones
The best Time of my life. I would definitely be there all the time when I come back 2 live in Minneapolis. This will be my purple life 4ever! I'm so glad that Prince loved this place even when he was a child. He gave us all a great reason why we should keep partying like it's 1999 again! Best music store Ever!!
Neil Sorensen
This is a great place not only for music and used vinyl, but also for unique gifts. Definitely worth a stop for tourists visiting Minneapolis who want cool gifts.
scott mcclure
Great independent record store, definitely worth a visit. Lots of gems in this store.
Gina Esterbrooks
I lived in the neighborhood probably 25 years ago. I am so thankful this Electric Fetus is still open! All of the staff was extremely helpful kind and friendly! They probably thought I was crazy because I was so excited they were still open. I purchased tons of heavy metal CDs some nose rings a kazoo a harmonica and lots of gifts for the family. Thank you thank you for supporting the Electric Fetus in town and thank you thank you for still being here! By the way my family was very envious as they have closed the one down in Duluth Minnesota.
Alma L Scott
If you looking for Prince music they have just about ALL of them..
Alicia O
Insanely fun record and variety store! Great selection of new records. I found a couple that I did not expect to find anywhere locally.
Blankety Blank
A legendary joint, as essential to the Minneapolis music scene as a nightclub like First Avenue, except it's a record store that sells gifts and incense as well. If you're my friend, and you live in another town, you have for sure gotten something from the Fetus in your mailbox from me. You can see famous ppl here sometimes, but nobody bothers them because Mpls is cool like that. One of my favorite places in town. ❤️
George Illes
The place was super spacious and had a really diverse selection of Vinyl.
kinderhood
They are great. Keeping it real and supporting the music community. Loving this place, cause they love me.
Amber Flores
Has a wide variety of music via vinyl & CDs. Also they have incense, soap, socks, cute little finger puppets, and lots of other awesome cute stuff. Definitely recommend to friends and everyone else. The only thing I didn't like was the mess of the vinyls, not really in alphabetical order which makes it a little confusing. But overall I could find what I was looking for.
Yvette Tucker
A fantastic Record Store with above excellent service! A must see go to and buy really cool merchandise! Ask for Chilly! Lots of Prince merchandise too!
Clarissa Stafford
Such an eclectic store. I went because of Prince. No one bothered me when I took pictures and stod in the middle of the sales floor and cried. It's an amazing experience for music lovers. Looking forward to my next visit.
R D P Davis
They do a good job of doing what they do. The Electric Fetus is part high end educated Spencer gifts type shop. Part head shop and the main body of work is the music shop. Good selection of new and used vinyl, cd’s and tapes. The employees are knowledgeable of any product in their store. Sometimes I find the record I’m looking for and sometimes not. No big deal as it’s common while shopping for vinyl. But I often wonder if that used album I’ve been looking for is in an employee’s collection and never made it out to the sales floor. The Electric Fetus is a great store with excellent staff but those folks behind the music counter have some secrets and I can see it in their eyes.
Rachel Rippberger
Best record shop ever! Lots of selection, they had everything and more I could ever want!
Matt Stout
This is your premiere record store, and more. Upon walking in, Cocteau Twins was playing, which is immediately a good sign. Great selection of vinyl. Saw many rarer items here that I had to keep myself from coming home with. Very good selection of electronic artists.
William First
Very cool spot, dig the vibe. Staff was helpful, just didn't find the stuff I was looking for during my trip
Kim Fread
Fun place to find great music. Can't wait till my next visit.
johnathan leonard
Fantastic vinyl record shop!
The selection was vast with all genres and artists.
The sales staff was also very helpful.
If you collect vinyls, you MUST visit this great location.
Tim Emerson
Charlie Parr book reading and musical performance at the Electric Fetus October 11 2022 was fantastic. I bought his book, chatted with Charlie and brought home some new music.
DJ Skol
I love this place been around for years. Come here for all things retro. Go it there's something for everyone.
Matthew Ecklund
Absolutely fantastic spot well worth checking out if you're visiting MIA ( Minneapolis Institute of Arts) and feel inspired by the artworks to bring some music home with you. Incredibly musically wise staff, happy hippies buying incense, turntables to listen on with great headphones, and all the accessories one might need for sampling the greener things in life.
Inga Halverson (Norwegian Dreamer)
A must visit record store for all out of towners ! This has been a local favorite since the 70's and my local favorite since the 80's. There are sometimes (popular) local artists playing special shows in store. They carry gifts, vinyl, cd's, stereo equipment, "head shop" items and local arts/hand crafted goods.
Joe Hernandez
Great location with the great view! The vinyl collection is amazing from old to the latest 10/10
vincent de la rosa
Best music store in MN
Historic place!
James Holevas
The greatest, long lasting, and still true to their name, head shop in the twin cities. Big ups! May you live long and prosper!
Ingolf Vogeler
Historic institution from the 1960s. Vast selection of records well organized with original wooden floors. A must visit when Mlps.
Dan B
Music selection...second to none, service...always friendly...collectibles are great...was a pleasure to bring,my daughter today to celebrate their 50 years in biz!
Lisa Gnoza
You MUST go to this record store if you are in Minneapolis. It was Prince's favorite store. Don't let the outside of the building fool you. This place has so much to offer inside!
Eire Girl
A music lover's dream! Well stocked with friendly, engaging staff. We were on from out of town and I really loved the experience here.
khalid abdulrahman
I have been going to electric fetus for over 20 years the atmosphere is always pleasant the employees are always knowledgeable and if there's something hard to get this is your go to place
Francis Keys
This is a pretty cool store. I just came by to sell some old CDs. Didn't get a ton of cash, but I haven't played any of them for years.
Ed Christof
first ever google review. i really loved this store. i travel for work and always try to hit a record shop wherever i am. this place is one of the coolest i've visited. classic nostalgic vibe with a super extensive selection of new and old records (and CDs) across ever genre, plus tons of cool merch and vintage apparel. i casually browsed for like 30 minutes and walked away with more records than i could fit in my travel bag. Electric Fetus is keeping the dream alive. don't think twice.
Aaron Watt
A great store for music and a trendy gift shop. The staff are friendly and the building has a rustic feel to it
Dominic Birckbichler
Easily one of the coolest record stores I have ever been in. You can feel the history! The selection is so massive and consistently changing you can also watch it happen. I have been coming here for years and always walk away with something I have never heard of
Lexi Jensen
This place has almost every album you could ever want and more. There are gifts to chose from, books - and the smell. The smell is heavenly. 🤤 Such a vibey spot! Check it out if you are looking for some good music and great people. …
MJH - VII
Great place to pick up records, CDs, t shirts, candles. Proud supporter on Record store day. They gave away free coffee & breakfast burritos for those standing in line. I love this place.
Mick Neary
A fantastic eclectic real record and merchandise shop. Excellent staff. A music fan must
Jeremiah Pegues
If you are a collector of music, or just an audiophile in general, definitely go here. The staff makes all the difference! Special shout out to Maria who helped me for over 30 minutes to find exact record I needed.
Amanda Johnson
Definitely the coolest music extravaganza to come too. Highly recommend visiting.
Ella Borchert
Such a cool store. There’s a ton of music and there were many artists who I didn’t expect to be sold here! Fantastic selection. I could spend hours looking here.
Dave Keller
A real record store still exists!! Great selection and great prices. Highly recommended!
David Schirmer
If you're looking for music this place has it, and tons of other stuff to. A have to stop destination when in Minneapolis.
Dominic Kapinos
They have a great store with a wide selection, but it's all pretty pricey.
Jennifer Thompson
Awesome record store! T-shirts, books, posters, hard-to-find items, & various other things are all sold there. Most definitely a "Princely" stop while in Minnesota. Prince4ever 💜 …
TJ Sikorski
By and large the best record store in Minnesota. From in store preformances, special release and the most help staff a visit here will always be an experience. Lost of memoribela and connections can be found to local artists and venues. This store offer a wide verity of new and used vinal, CDs and music DVDs. If they don't have it they will order it for you.
I went here to buy my first record player, and got more help than I ever imagined. They found the perfect one for my home set up and even gave me some free albums.
This is a must stop for any music fan visiting Minneapolis.
Kristin Etling
Very cool place! As first time visitors to the state, my daughter and I would chose this awesome music/novelty store to return to! We love Prince too! 💜 …
Sophie Debs
Good selection. Interestingly, they have a bunch of newer releases on cassettes, which was a pleasant surprise -- their vintage selection is limited but it's rare to see so many of the modern cassette drops in one place.
B
Dope place, nice selection. Just crowded when I went.
A. Z.
Best shop in the world. The vibe is perfect to mosey and feel zen. You can always find unique gifts for yourself (which is my goal!😉) or the cool people in your life! In my top 2 stores! …
Richard Quigley
Remarkable vinyl collection for sale!! Nice hip vibe. Walking through the store reminds one of the late 1960s, early 1970s when flower child businesses began cropping up everywhere. At the time these smaller entrepreneurs offered a new style of business. Smaller, calmer & cool. Which was a refreshing change & rejection of huge Penny's, Sears & Macy's massive stores & huge inventories.
I found E Fetus a delightful experience.
Diana
Amazing selection of records. Not a fan of the front part of the store: clothing, gifts, gadgets. However, it’s nice to browse through every once in a while.
Nightsofneep
Very good for all your music needs. Vinyl was in good supply
Kerry Ross
Fun!!! A record shop slash eclectic gift shop. A must visit I will return!
Tessa Cooper
If you ever come to Minneapolis. Please stop here. It is so cool. So many cool records and items for all ages. The people who work there are so much fun and they are warm welcomed. 🙂✌️ …
James B
The OG and one of top record stores, the staff is generally knowledgeable and they have a great selection and usually get the rare/one offs. They also keep their pricing pretty competitive and occasionally find a good deal
cody andrews
Amazing record store, they also have cds cassettes dvds cds, even had a small head shop in the corner, definitely will be back
Jeremy Holloway
big store, small record selection. very limited used section.
Monique Lewis
Awesome store. Great prices. Very friendly and helpful staff! Great Prince memorabilia! A must stop when in Minneapolis!
Malik McDiesel
Very busy... Lots of good stuff. CD's, Vinyl, clothes and etc... Niiicce!
Matthew Waldham
Amazing store for anyone with a love for any genre of music. HUGE selection to choose from no matter what genre, usually have quite a few items on sale or discounted in price for used condition. Make sure you buy 3 or more items and you can get a 10% discount on your purchase!
Alonzo Brown
This is one of the best record stores I've been in. Check them out.
Summer Golden
Great selection of music especially records. Largest selection of Prince music that I've come across in one place. Great atmosphere. No wonder Prince was a patron.
Tina Schmidt
So much fun! Not enough hours in the day to spend there! I didn't see any, but would recommend bags or baskets for all the stuff I wanted to buy...but couldn't carry!
Gavin Neo
Amazing and wide selection. Pretty much any music you can think of on record or CD, and that was only half the store! There was a whole gift shop area with all kinds of things that I still need to explore! A surefire must-visit for anybody, especially music enthusiasts!
Emma Steffenhagen
Love EF. There is always such an eclectic vibe that I thrive in here. They have a decent metal section and a huge used section. I enjoyed seeing the local artists be highlighted. I always recommend here for those on a vinyl hunt. They have lots of cool limited edition vinyls.
MJ MJ
Great store, lots of vinyl! Also, those that don't know was PRINCE favorite recorder store to shop!!!
Jason White
Great record store with a lot more than just records
Tom Peets
Friendly people and one of the best record selections in the city
Erica Anderson

Jenny D
Best record shop in Minneapolis, Great selection of music and tons of music related items. The staff were so helpful and knowledgeable. I would definitely come back again.
Yvonne Hollman
The Electric Fetus is an awesome place! I just wish I could make my own CD in store as before, but due to COVID precautions, that service wasn't available in person. Grateful for the precautions in place though! Unique spot...definitely worth visiting!
Maria Fernandez
I love the Electric Fetus been my go record store for yrs
Kendalyn Mulvey
Amazing selection of records AND lots of cool oddities to discover
Christian Gerard
music experts. great inventory. i had to liquidate my entire collection and it was traumatic. electric fetus was I've of the stores where I sold my vinyl and they were pure class all the way. they reviewed it as expeditiously as possible and generally gave me reasonable deals for my vinyl.
Andi Kahclamat
I really didn't know what to expect from this place! The outside looks old but the inside is very modern and laid out well. I found several good gift items, both Prince themed and otherwise. The staff was super nice as well even though I walked in 15 minutes before close. If I lived in Minneapolis, I'd definitely come back when I need gift ideas.
Robert Barnes
Prince shopped here. I assume because it was from his childhood. It is clearly run by socialist - Marxists, so I would not spend a penny there. But its a neat store with history.
Robert Wolfe
I enjoyed being here just opening doorway, smelling the candles or whatever was in the air at the time & hearing my feet walking across the hardwood looking out to a sea of music, unsure how else to describe. I need to go back & pick up some new tunes, maybe vinyl unsure. My birthday is less than 2wks away.
Karyssa Scheck
Incredible customer service. After placing my order online, I decided to change it. The staff (Jim) was very helpful as I altered my order. Pick-up at the store was quick and super easy. And then they reached out to me a week later to update me on the availability of an album I was interested in. For one of the bigger, busier record stores in the area, I really appreciated the personal approach to customer service.
Ryan Whitebird
Pretty cool place to chill out and find your kind of music.
eli oaks
Hands down the best record store I’ve been to. Their collection is amazing and they have so much.
James W
Has nice gifts and a large vinyl selection. The staff are certainly around, but not as helpful as one might hope.
Galen Bell
This place has been serving the community for a very long time. They have an eclectic array of music. Often selling concert tickets.
Head shop and some fun gifts, home accessories.
Check it out.
Charlie Detviler
They only allow 15 people in the store in the age of COVID-19. The line to get into the store ends up being a little long on the weekends as a result, but it's worth the wait. The 15 customer maximum is nice because it's not overly crowded during a pandemic. Their selection is great. I was able to find two of my favorite albums on vinyl that I wasn't able to find elsewhere. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Good experience all around!
Kevin Martin
First time visit per a friend's suggestion. I may have traveled 5 hours to get here, but well worth it when visiting the area. Great selection of new and used. Limit customers in the store at a time to keep everyone safe. Waited a bit outside, but did not feel rushed once I got in. Now I have some new stuff to share with my students in class on Monday!
Jessica Wight
Very cool place with a lot more than just records. Spent about an hour here, looking through the records and browsing the other things they have. Home decor, clothes, candy, and tons of other stuff. So glad we stopped by while we were visiting Minneapolis.
JS at MN
No more Prince items as they are no longer auth to sell even tho he loved this shop. You can get the incense he used. They have cute clothing items and retro candy so still worth checking out.
Harmen Steele
Easy to see why this is a nationally recognized record shop. Great selections for both new and used media. Giant selection of Prince offerings. Easy to see how one could get lost sitting through the various racks.
Carol Orcutt
I love electric fetus, always have. I'm 62 and love to see multiple generation's of music lovers coming in and out. It's the best in the country and more musicians need to put on shows sponsoring them.
Angela Guthrie, MKIBC
People here are beautiful souls. Phenomenal selection of perfectly organized vinyl.
Elle S
Got the pleasure of visiting this awesome, eclectic shop on record store day. It was amazing! Huge selection of so many items, not just records. Clothes, knick knacks, instruments, posters, mini head shop, incense, you name it. Very cool somewhat goth hipster vibe accepting of all. Prices were reasonable and staff friendly and knowledgeable.
Gock Butler
I've gone to this place since the 70's Need I say more
Al Langseth
Always love going to the Electric Fetus!!! Bring the Grandkids for their first time. They both loved their first experience to the store. It was WOW!!! This place is COOL grandpa!!!
Lauren Brooks
Best store in Minneapolis, they have such a wide variety of everything and anything you didn’t know you needed until you see it.
Jordan Morgan
Nice record shop with some other quirky keepsakes.
_ Preemitec _
There's always something new here and the atmosphere is wonderful. My favorite place to get new posters, knickknacks, and Vinyls.
Amanda H
What a fun place to visit. This shop is lovely opened with a great selection of vinyl and music as well as some novelty items. I definitely come here for the music. The staff generally know what's going on in the area for entertainment. They also carry a small selection of incense, clothing, local made items, and novelties.
Mark Smith
If I was shopping for vinyl, I would give the Electric Fetus 5 stars. I was shopping for CDs and the selection was small. I have shopped there for 30 years but their large selection of CDs has dwindled and replaced with vinyl. There is still a good selection of used CDs. I guess vinyl and streaming is where the money is now.
Will Gleason
One of the best record stores I've ever been to! Massive selection no matter what you're looking for. Found a good amount of records you usually won't find in brick and mortar stores. The employees were eager to help me find some local music to bring back to VA. All around one of the best experiences I've had at any music store.
Melissa Miles
By far one of the coolest record stores I been to! People were super friendly and verity of vintage items and new.. highly recommend visiting this place!
Rebekah Doyle
Vinyl, CDs and even cassettes new and used plus great gift section and incense and pipes.
Nicole Kari
This is where I go in town when I want to find a record, first. They have a solid new vinyl section, and a decent used section as well. Also great for picking up a nice gift. I'm local, so I recommend this to anyone visiting from out of town if you're looking for records or fun, unique souvenirs.
Sam Rogstad
Staff are always very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. The store is always clean and smelling nice from the incense for sale!
alec schuller
Always a great place to be. I just found out they hide secret vinyl in the mix so you have to spend hours but you find autographed ones and crazy releases.
Leah McGivern
What an amazing selection of music and novelty gifts! Such a great set-up, the atmosphere is inviting and instantly draws you in. Prices on used music and dvd's are phenomenal, they are practically giving stuff away. Definitely worth the time to stop in and look around, something here for everyone!
Mary Roarty
Great in store event with Bob Mould! He graciously took photos and signed albums.
Kevin Mendel
Great used vinyl place, with new stuff all the time. I have had to return a few, as they do not have their players up due to Covid. Not sure why, as other stores do, but as long as they take ones back that aren't good, I guess it's ok. The guy told me it's due to social distancing, which didn't make sense to me, but oh well.
Michelle Horn
This is the greatest record store in the Twin Cities. They have an incredible selection of vinyl, both new and used. I love the gift shop at the front of the store because there are so many cute items. Make the time to check it out. I promise you won't be disappointed.
Tirrell Brown
You have to go there! It's so cool man! I love collecting different merch and stickers from record stores. They had it way more than that. After finding my records I stayed for about 40 minutes trying to figure out which souvenir I wanted to take home. They had shot glasses, pint glasses, shirts, stickers, fragrances, wine glasses , buttons patches and alot of other stuff. Also what I appreciated was that their selection was deep. I found 2 rare finds that I couldn't find anywhere else. Also they had good deals on used vinyl as well, I bought 2 new ones and got a used one free. They also have the mystery bags as well. This store has been around since the 60's it's still amazing.
Ha.Pe03 Ymail
I would have liked to see a bigger used section. There is a whole section of the store dedicated to CDs. I think the place needs to evolve a bit. They do occasionally have live music which is cool but the acoustics don't really do the place justice. I understand that Prince used to come here, it just didn't live up to the hype.
PeterJon Zenefski
My favorite record store, hands down. Knowledgeable staff with great recommendations. Very fun to just go to find new music. Great variety of new and used vinyl and CDs. I've traveled quite a bit to check out our stores but I haven't found one I like as much as the Fetus. Ringo Starr approved!
Christian Sibole (Lupus_Yonderboy87)
This place is my church. If I could live there I would. Best staff, best prices, and best selection. I can't always find exactly what I'm looking for but I always find something. Always.
Rebecca Darling
What's not to like about a giant record store with the best selection?!? I had to drag myself out of there with 9 records but I could have bought one hundred. Service was incredible as always.
DM
My favorite record store in the United States, it was also Prince’s favorite too! They carry a wonderful selection of music and if they don’t have it they can order it!
Linda Schlatter
Long time favorite record store. It's a great place to find one of the best and diverse selections of music anyone could want. Formats are all there too!! Unique gifts clothing etc. Local music and concert tickets for some of the local venues. Highly recommend!!!
Eighty Tooth
Awesome people and cool place to get some great stuff. Been shopping here for 20+years.
Kim Pruitt
I loved this place! Great selection of music. All sorts of different kinds of goods in this place, not just music. Very helpful and friendly staff. Especially the young lady on the register whose mom is a bee charmer. I can't remember her name but she was so kind and I enjoyed our conversation about Prince & about you growing up with your mom's bee's & honey :)
Nancy Lewis
Love this record store!!! They also have cool merch and gifts for adults and children - even baby gifts!
Leo Mulligan
Last minute stop before they closed (check times for sure, they have reduced hours), employees were welcoming and friendly. Wishing the best for yall, stay safe.
Love the free matches too, thanks guys. :)
Jessica Wilson
A combination of fun and quirky collectibles and vinyl.
Rol Small
Like walking into a "Head Shop" from the 70's but with new music. (I did walk into this shop in the 70's. A lot.) The smell of all the different incense is like a greeting from an old friend. Records, CDs, candy, clothing, posters and more. If you've never been you must go. If you're from out of town for vist and you miss this shop you really haven't seen the city.
Erin Minor
I've gone here twice to see acoustic performances and they've both been great experiences! The store is bigger than it looks on the outside and they have all kinds of records and players. The atmosphere is also very nice and welcoming.
Maciek Smółka
One of the best record stores I've been to. Great selection of vinyl and compact discs, used LPs section is impressive as well. Still, it feels cozy and intimate. Staff is very nice and knowledgeable. Every music fan that visits Twin Cities should go there. Legendary place.
Kelso Wilkin
If you are looking for popular music(old or new) on vinyl this is a good place to go. It sort of lacks rare music which is expected for a record chain but much of the store is just filled with random hippie stuff like CBD oil and marijuana paraphernalia.
Tracey Rose
They have a variety of music. The atmosphere and the staff are wonderful!!
NewYork_Lioness
Electric Fetus reminds me of just how much record stores are missed. I found 8 albums that I had long forgotten about and purchased. The staff there are very helpful and they have tons of gifts and novelties you can purchase. Highly recommend visiting!
Steven Linden
Wow, what can I say? You can easily spend hours at this place if you are big into the music scene. Their selection of vinyls and CDs is amazing! My wife and I easily spent over $100 in one visit on several vinyls. The workers are very knowledgeable and quick to help if you are looking for something. They also sell turntables, turntable accessories, speakers, and everything else you need to optimize your music listening.
MICHEAL OFFICERSR
I went there to look for a out of print Reggae Gold CD from 2008,but they didn't have it! But, they had plenty other types of music for your enjoyment! Vinyl is making a great comeback and they have all your listening needs so go check them out, you might just find something you weren't looking for!
gregor dohrn
Very nice collection of music, something for everyone.
Valentina Contreras
My favorite record store in Minnesota
Josh J
One of the best things about this place is how nice and chill the employees are. The selection is pretty extensive, and while I'm not a pro at buying records, the prices seem fair. Overall, it's a cool vibe.
Reithen Curtis
Awesome place to shop and find Prince items!
Brian Isles
This storied record store is an institution and one of the reasons why I love to visit Minneapolis. They're always well-stocked with the newest vinyl, clothing, and kitschy gifts, and the staff there is laid-back and friendly. The used vinyl section is where you find the hidden gems, though. Make sure you carve out a good chunk of time to take it all in and to explore!
Lauren Tennant
Quaint little record store with large record selection, incense and candles and fun novelties. The creaky old floor is a nice touch.
John Bergeron
Very disappointed over the sadly meager jazz section. It used to be a hallmark of this legendary store. Good vinyl selection though. Overall, still a pretty fun place to visit.
Kathy M.
Always have a great time when I visit Electric Fetus. I love supporting independent businesses. They have great stuff in their store, and don't forget the amazing music selection they have.
victor saldivar
This place has a little bit of everything for all the hipsters in your life. I was able to find some unheard of albums for the "free spirit" in my life that claims they're taste in music is better than mine. They also carry a nice selection of pipes and smoking accessories for this other person I can't seem to get out of my life. All in all, I highly recommend this place for the obscure, social rebel in your life.
Sophia Bull
A classic Minneapolis institution as good as its reputation. Excellent selection of music and merchandise, with very knowledgeable and friendly staff. Loved the Prince tribute section that was there when I last visited. If you need the perfect gift for the music lover in your life, you'll find it here at an affordable price.
Emery Brush
Electric Fetus was a pretty cool store to visit. It wasn't on the initial plan for the day, but as the day drew to a close I ended up there. The shelves were filled with interesting and cool things - I found some cool pins and stickers - but once you get closer to the mid section of the store is where you find the meat of what Electric Fetus offers. They have a huge record selection - and at first I was concerned it would only be new vinyl, or reprints of older records (at hefty prices) But they also had an expansive used section, with music from all genres. I was able to find some of the more obscure older artists I listen to in their stock.
Overall the store is worth a visit if you listen to vinyl - that is the main draw for me. It is also conveniently close to the Minneapolis Institute of Art, which has free entry! The only issue I had was I felt some things were a bit expensive, but hey, I'm also kind of cheap.
Jordan W
Always a wonderful shopping experience. Some of the prices on CDs can be a little high, but there is such a vast collection and so many niche artists and genres that this is totally easy to look past. I made sure to continuously shop here when the city made it super difficult to even get here with the work on Franklin. Now that the construction is finally done, there's no excuse to not check it out.
Disc Mill Records
Great selection. Historic brand. Friendly staff.
jeremy onderek
Google told me this place was Prince's favorite record store. Went for the novelty, stayed for the choice selection of vinyl (at least for my music tastes). I was planning on going just to see if it was a cool place, ended up buying a few different LPs of beloved Twin Cities bands. They've got a good selection of different merchandise outside of vinyl and CDs. Would recommend!
Kaylyn Thompson
I love this store. Very nice selection of vinyl and lots of other cool stuff. I could spend hours maybe even days looking through stuff. Their rage of genre of vinyl is really great. There is something for everyone
Caleb Morgan
Timeless classic space. Must visit if you are in Minneapolis!
Awesome music selection, great place to get concert tickets for local venues. Shops like this are true gems! Love searching through the racks here and browsing around the store. Electric Fetus has a small town feel in the big city.
Bruce Brantner
Love this place just love it. We come here at least once while we are back here.
Dave Urbik
Price wise this stores a little more on the spendy side, but the incredible selection of titles and artists definitely makes up for the price. The staff here is almost always very cheerful and laid-back, and they are definitely very knowledgeable and helpful. The store has been an icon in Minneapolis for many years now and hopefully it will continue this trend!
Ismelda
Great experience. I even found my two favorite demo records scandalous and insatiable
JD Gallegos
A hidden gem for great vinyl. Beyond the many rows of records from multiple genres they also have clothing. Music and gifts, this place has unique items that are cool and fun. Nice and helpful staff, a must see place for vinyl lovers.
Sonja Abbott
Great selection of music. Their random gift selections are fun to look at; they sell different kinds of soaps, incense, books--just about anything you want or didn't know you needed. Decent section of tobacco pipes.
Kathy Bailey
Fun store! Lots of old school gift ideas, Prince memorabilia, candles and incense, funny meme socks and towels, unique elets and purses. Definitely worth checking out just for these things but then they have a huge selection of vinyl as well.
Brian Wene
Fantastic record store with many local bands playing intimate sessions. If you want to experience what the music industry is really like then it's imperative that you attend an in-store show. You are usually allowed to meet and chat with the bands. Plus the staff here are very knowledgeable and truly good people. It's always a pleasure interacting with any/all of the workers. Ask one of them which album is their favorite. They'll act as if the world has stopped. But then you try to answer it. Have fun!
Carter Wynja
Wonderful spot! Lots of hard to find albums both on CD and vinyl. Friendly and helpful staff. So much local Minnesota and Prince merch. It's half gift shop and half music store so there's a little something for everybody :) great incense selection as well, they carry Morning Star, which is a great Japanese brand. Coming from South Dakota, this place is super refreshing. Would give it six stars if I could!!
Iris De Rosa
This place is well known for being the best record store in Minneapolis and I have to agree. This place has character and potential. The only downfall is that every time I’m there they seem to be closing early for some reason. A few hours ahead of closing time too.
Amy V
Highly recommend visiting the Electric Fetus! It truly has something for everyone. There is a great selection on music that is well organized. The have new or used, both of which are clearly labeled and again well organized. The staff are super friendly and helpful! Finding, researching, or knowing their inventory is what they do and do it well. Besides music, there is also nic nak, fun miscellaneous items. Jewelry, socks, books, etc. Buy local, support local, this gem says it all! Again, recommend to visit at least once!!
joe kampf
Great place to buy used LP's however, I miss the demo turntables you used to make available to the customers to review an album and validate that they are in good condition
Average JoJo
The hipster store. Incense, beanies, vinyls. Did you like something before it was cool in like 2014? You can find it here. Jokes aside, good quality stuff, wide selection of music in vinyl, cassette, or otherwise.
yayatoyou cucu
Construction has cleared. Electric Fetus back to normal. Excellent! Great staff. All of their LPs are in excellent shape. Even the used ones. I am a returning customer.
Kyle Riedemann
Helpful staff, great selection of new and used records, laid back atmosphere. Tuesdays there is a discount on used records when you buy new and they always have flyers up about what live shows are coming up in town. This place is great for music lovers to get into vinyl.
Gordy Seppanen
My favorite record shop in the area. Others might have a bigger selection of something specific but no one covers all the bases like the Fetus. Check their website for new releases and in store performances. Great selection, CD, vinyl, used and new plus clothes, DVD, turntables and so much more. They do a great job of on-line sales too. Forget Amazon, buy local!
Jujitsu Majors
This place his bet around for really long time and every time I go there and always able to find exactly what I want whether the vinyl or album incense posters but it is one of the most respected places to still fine high quality music
P B
Love this store wish the one in st.cloud hadn't closed
Tim Kluntz
Legendary record store and accessory shop. This place has nearly every musical request you can ask on their shelves both cd and vinyl. Don't own a record player? No worries, they carry at least 3 or 4 (usually at least $75 at the low end). I love coming here for the live in-store performances from local Minnesota acts like Duluth based trio Low.
Loz Koke
Always a pleasure to shop here. I enjoy their selection of bar soaps, & vintage brand candies. I enjoy the atmosphere, & the staff is always helpful.
Barry Travis
Visited the Fetus from NYC and was blown away by the size of their selection. They not only had a great selection of new vinyl but also had a deep deep collection of used spanning all genres. By far better selection and prices than places I had been in NYC. Loved the atmosphere and staff
John Claude (Le_Lapin_Lune)
Great selection of new and used vinyl and a knowledgeable staff.
Joe J
Great experience, I wish it wasn't my first time visiting this Minneapolis landmark.
Charles Depietri (Pastor Charles)
Stopped in to get a gift for friend, staff was immediately attentive to my needs. Atmosphere is old school hippie. Acceptance of all. Spirit filled atmosphere lots of energy.
Emily C.
Great vibes. Pricey on lots of items but a fantastic place with awesome staff.
D-Loc Khodorkovsky
The entire staff was extremely nice and very helpful! I look forward to coming back to visit from LA!
David Thomas-Jensen
Hyper local very smart original record store survivor. Everything about this place is cool it is a destination to visit it is a pleasure to shop here you can find it all and if you can't it's probably because it sucks. They also have some really cool gear and schwag. The location in St Cloud is also cool. Never been to the one in Duluth I think there's one in Duluth. But this is the original and if you're in uptown, Minneapolis, Minnesota and you care one bit about music you need to go here, and see a show at First Avenue.
Jeremy Bonner
Great local spot for records and gifts. Lots of vinyl featuring Minnesota artists. Awesome woman's fashion, but not so much for men's fashion good spot to pick up a gift for music lovers or the lady in your life!!
Kyle Arneson
Fantastic people and a pretty awesome atmosphere. I went in to put some flyers up for some upcoming shows and they were very friendly and more than helpful. Huge selection of records and CDs, as well as another half of the shop which has candy, clothes, etc. I'd reccomend stopping by.
Hannah Chartier
I love stopping in at electric fetus! Staff is super great and very friendly. You can find such unique items in the shop.
Candace Lindow-Davies
The Fetus is an amazing store for all genres of music, concert tickets, occasional performances, really unique clothes, jewelry and the best gifts ever. We spend hours here and the staff are incredibly helpful. If they tried to ever bulldoze the place, thousands of Minnesotans would chain themselves to the outside. It's just that sacred of a place.
Thomas Christian
I recently bought a large and expensive box set here. I was disappointed with what it contained, so I arranged to return it. The manager, Bob, was very friendly and cordial about it, and refunded me most of my money although I had already opened the item and there was some slight cosmetic damage on the box. I really appreciate that. Good atmosphere, hip staff and nice selection. I would shop here all the time if I lived closer.
Steve Groetken
Need records. Got records. CDs and more. The staff was friendly and helpful. The selection hands down is one of the best I've seen of both new and used vinyl. Actually picked up a turntable here as well. A Music Hall. I can't wait to go again increase my vinyl collection.
John Blaylock
Amazing selection of vinyl & cd's, unpretentious & friendly staff. And dogs are welcome! Been around forever, tight connection to the local music scene with lots of in store appearances. Go there!
Sarah Haqq
I hadn't been to electric fetus in a very long time and I am glad that I went because it reminded me of how awesome it is! Sure you can find cool stuff on line but the store is on trend with new things that I won't even know how to search for Amazon! Also all of the staff members were so kind and nice and thanked me at least 5 times for coming in. Electric fetus i the kind of local gem that we need to keep healthy and operating for the vitality and culture of our city!
swaggysack
literally will never second guess going to another record store. a small business that always has amazing selection, environment and people. wonderful place.
Jon Ochmanek
Love this place. Best selection of vinyl in the twin cities, and a steady stream of new stuff to keep you coming back. I always find at least three gems in the used vinyl racks.
Chuck Farraj
Excellent selection of music and memorabilia
Alethea W
Great selection of vinyl, they have a lot of sales, huge selection of used vinyl, lots of good stuff, especially on event days like record store sale days. You can also buy tickets to shows and save money on fees. Really cute clothing and accessories for sale as well.
Jennifer Sutton
Electric Fetus is a music lover's paradise and Minnesota's go-to music store. I always tell my friends from out of state to visit. The staff here are so knowledgeable and extremely passionate about music; it's worth your time to ask them for recommendations! They probably have that record you're looking for. Occasionally the store also hosts small music events like meet & greets. In addition to the music selection they've got a great gift shop.
Pam Burnes
Probably the best record store I've ever seen. Not just records though, so much more!
peter ellison
The quirk level is master class - great selection of vinyl, of course, but also great place for local eclectic gifts - sort of a music grunge boutique
Dale McCormick
Lots of vinyl, CDs, DVDs, even cassette tapes. New and used. Lots of fun gift items, T shirts, posters, ect.
Bronwyn Held
Great music selection and fun gifts for anyone. I went there for the first time on Record Store Day and it was amazing. They had bands all day and you could tell the people who work here really care about music.
Miles Patak (Smiles)
One the only places left with an actual up to date metal section. Live performances, smoke shop included. The prices can be a bit high but still Worth the trip.
Deborah Campbell
It took me back in time.
What a joy
Jon Peterson
Larger and more varied than my last visit many years ago. Great selection of gifts along with new and used cd's and of course vinyl. They even have turntables for sale too.
Dan Price
The Fetus has a fantastic assortment of music of all genres and formats. If you are looking for a hard to find album, this is your place! They even have the option of custom mixing a CD using kiosks located around the store that they will burn to disc and have waiting for you at check out. They also have jewelry, clothing and other fun novelties and "head shop" items. Love this place and visit once or twice a month.
Mark Calverley
Great vinyl selection, great memories. Been going here for 40 years when in the Twin Cities
Lloyd Scott
*they're closed on Mondays so don't go in on monday. They do have a good size parking lot that was nice easy to park. They have a huge selection of albums.
KJ Goldstein
I've always wanted to stop here and I'm glad we finally did. This place is so much more than a "record" store. The random baubles and gifts are incredible.
Rena Jackson
I always leave with something old and something new!! I have shopped here since I was nineteen. I am now 51 and the great vibe is still the same. One of my favorite places to just hangout and explore different music😃 …
S. K.
1st time going was on Black Friday 2021. It was pretty cool. Good music-weird, fun merch, awesome ppl, cool wooden earrings.
M Nelson
Great gifts! Lots of laughs shopping here, oh, and they have music too.
C R
Aside from 3 George Carlin records, I picked up a beautiful dress, necklace and a sweet pair of sunglasses. Came for a Hum record, left with everything but!
Bjorn
A couple real gems to be found in their hodgepodge of used/old records -this is really the highlight of this shop. Good section on DVD and cassettes as well. I've only bought and never sold. Sizeable gift shop complete with all kinds of paraphernalia, incense, posters.
Mariah Cordero
Amazing! Come here for the records - especially Tuesday for their Record Happy Hour - $5 off Used vinyl with every $20 purchase of New. Always find something interesting. Love the atmosphere and the super friendly staff.
SANDRA HINTON
I love this place for old or new vinyl Records CD's and unique gift's and candy and the old hardwood squeaky floors also T-shirts and posters. This was also was of Prince favorite Hangouts who new he was popping in when I was also.
Victor “Vic” Littlejohn
So many interesting items, nostalgic items and of course music! Great place to just browse which I could do there for hours on end.
David Noble
Fascinating gifts section of store, excellent greeting card selection .... and the option to spend hours search for new and used CD's & vinyl. Enjoy! Have fun!
Dinah Johnson
AH MAY ZING!!!!!!!
Love love love the collection and wide variety. Affordable used prices and they have the latest new releases. Also the gift shop is the best! XOOX PRINCE
Ryan McCarthy
Very good selection ranging from Records and CDs to general merch and fun gifts. Great atmosphere on the inside as well.
Imperial Loyalist
Amazing place to get some used or new CD's. Helpful staff and an extremely large selection of music, followed by a small amount of DVD. Great place to get some cheap music. Only paid about $5 per CD
Jeremy Burns
The Fetus is the premier record store in the Twin Cities with a huge selection of new and used options. The atmosphere is cool and there is good parking. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful. A record store as they should be.
Sonia Hill
The best place ever! You can find a little bit of everything here old records new records vintage vinyl if you can imagine it they probably have it staff is always super friendly if you never been I encourage you to go check them out!
Douglas Rzeszutek
Always outstanding customer service,.
No one better than these guys, always enjoy my visit,..brought a friend who hadn't been there on over 30 years
Nicholas Olson
What a great place for people who like digging for music treasures. Great used collection for music and movies. Love the smell when I walk through the door and the creaking floor boards. I wish there were more places like this in the world.
Aaron N
It's amazing to think I didn't find what I was hoping too considering the mass amount of selection they have, but it was a near impossible task. It's always a great store for near anything you want to listen to. Very organized and helpful staff.
Simone Menier
This beloved half-century-old record store is one of just a few of its kind left in the Twin Cities. It has outlived its siblings Let It Be and Oar Folkjokeopus, and even recently survived a fire. It probably still has the best used and new vinyl, plus excellent CDs. It features great unique hipstery gifts, a nice selection of glass "tobacco" pipes, and well-curated boutique clothes (mostly for young thin people).
Josh Forsythe
This is THE iconic record store in Minneapolis - records, CDs, cassettes - everything from cheap common albums to rarer stuff. Whole lifestyle section too with clothes, trinkets and other things.
Christina Klarenbach-Harris
Wrecka Stow...Prince shopped here frequently...Amazing place with friendly staff. I will definitely be back next time I'm in Minneapolis .
Maretta Colvin
Awesome store. Staff is friendly & helpful.
the_nicanor
Goes for a specific demographic that I'm simply not in, but it's definitely worth a visit. Quite a selection of music, but it's really a great representation of Minneapolis' cultural mindset. And by that I mean it's pretty, and kinda lame.
Angie Schatschneider
Such a cool spot with tons of selection in all things physical media. We had to wait outside as they are very precautious on Covid practices. Staff was attentive to get us inside as soon as possible. They do special events and deals on Tuesdays.
David Vriezen
The Fetus is alright. Good selection of new vinyl, but the used vinyl selection is lacking and feels overpriced. It's a cool spot but if you just want to crate dig I'd hit up cheapo instead.
Laura Justlaura
I LOVE the fetus. I live in Iowa but it is an absolute must visit every time I come to the cities. The building alone is full of all the good vibes. The music, the records, the art, the water pipes. It’s my go to hippy shop. I love the electric fetus. Go there. Give them all of your money. And take your kids so they stay in business another generation.
Frances Abbott
It would be easy to spend a day in the store.
Once I'm done shopping for new music, I browse the additional retail items. This year I was able to get a variety of holiday shopping done in one swoop. Body care, fun stationary, kids toys and clothing, are just a sampling of what they offer in addition to a large music selection.
Jonathan Bredin
Classic record shop with great inventory. The staff will help you navigate and find your next album. Don't forget to pick up a schedule for 1st Ave and the Turf Club on the way out.
Connor Ness
Great store. Love all the eclectic little food fads. Great selection of vinyl and I love to look around at everything.
Shad Owen
Amazing store. Used and new Vinyl and Cds, show tickets, gifts, novelties, smoking supplies. This place is an adventure! Famous South Minneapolis destination. Highly recommended!
Unmarked Enterprises
I have always loved this place and I love how they have grown, adapted and changed over the years. Now their store is better than ever!
Corey Cosgrove
An amazing recommendation as I was in from out of town. GREAT new selection with limited used vinyl. Overall a wonderful crew that instantly feels like family.
Jack Achenbach
This place is pretty cool. It's definitely better than Mr. Zero's... Man, that place sucks.
Nancy LaQua
Great selection of vinyl, CDs and absolutely fun gifts and miscellaneous. It's a must for any music lover.
Carol L
Good source for vinyl, CD's, DVD's.
Good used section, good selection of new.
Minneapolis location has good selection of books, soap & lotions, toys, incense, retro candy, jewelry, clearance items.
Duluth is more limited and a smaller sized store.
Yogi
Minneapolis original. This record shop is nostalgic . I will always love the place. Great selection of incense too
Katrina Jones
I hadn't been to Electric Fetus in year's but I was rather pleased to know they are still standing! Got everything I was looking for except some Chris Brown CDs lol and I couldn't even believe the guy remembered my name! Now that's customer service!
dobbie
great selection, friendly staff, amazing atmosphere, just a really pleasant place to be. Even if you don't buy anything, you still have a good time browsing. Great place to be 👍 …
Peter Stampfle
They really liquidised the used vinyl section. So much so that I didn't buy one single record when I was there. They did have some good prices on CDs. I get the sense that if you pass a drug test, you can't work here.
Joel Swaney
My top 2 record stores in the Twin Cities. Friendly staff, always a great selection, and good prices. Much of my collection has been built from this store. Happy to support the corner store.
Logan Bidon
A very interesting store! It's well worth the visit if you're a big record collector and a fine place to checkout just for the heck of it.
max schaefer
If your looking for Vinyls or Cds this is the place to go picked up some great rap records which is normally a bit hard to find!
Tonya
Highly recommend!! Owners are the BEST!!
Jacqulyn Gonzalez
Prince, The Artist, shopped there! Variety! Vinyl albums, CDs & cassettes. Clothing, sunglasses, hats, essential oils, incense & candles, books & candy, etc. Love Love Love this place! Everything is tailored for music! Rock & Roll vibe! Every time I go to Minneapolis, a visit to the Electric Fetus is required!
Henry Martinson
I mean, come on. It's the Electric Fetus. You know what this is. They have a large and eclectic selection of CDs, cassette tapes, vinyl, DVDs, and BDs. In addition to carrying most big releases, you can sometimes find hidden gems as well.
One thing that I think is worth mentioning is that about 1/4 of the store is taken up by books, toys, clothing, jewelry, accessories, stationery, incense, bath & beauty products, and housewares, functioning as a Minnesota themed gift shop. This makes the Electric Fetus feel like something of a novelty, but it is still one of the better record stores in the Twin Cities.
Charlie Talalla
It's got a whole bunch of good people in there. So everybody really knows their areas and what they have lots of music with music and music they got the lp is all the records you can imagine record players CDs and DVDs of your favorite artist lots of apparel lots of cool random things for your entertainment lots of jewelryesk type stuff. get a whole bunch of hats cool hats that you can use in free much any different situation has his lights hats with bills hats without the bill beanies storage hats and gloves and apparel just clothes and scarves and shirts all that good stuff hemp products and they have again very smart employees who all know their area and everything that they have in their area if they're unaware of something another employee there is aware of it and can assist you and what you need
Rebecca Schmidt
The absolute BEST record shop (& memorabilia) in Mpls. Famous as one of Prince's favorite places to go, when here. If you haven't visited, you should. You won't regret it.
Erin Meyer
I grew up going to the St Cloud location; Electric Fetus is THE spot for your music and cool, unique gifts. You know you wanna shop for music where Prince did. Support indie record stores!
Amy W
Mostly new albums, love the clothing and accessories. I could shop while my son searched for albums. Great name!!
John Theroux
My first trip to a record store..ever. You are greeted first with a gift shop, right inside the entrance - the smell of incense, quirky indie-hipster novelty gifts, and a cabinet fit for a headshop.
Further in, as you make your way across the creaking wooden floors you'll find records. LOTS OF THEM. It was a bit overwhelming at first, but the layout is fairly intuitive and well organized. You'll find everything from a new arrivals used section, used, older vinyl, and rows and rows of new presses. I spent hours in here purusing the aisles. I ended up emerging with a few goodies from both new and used vinyl areas, as well as a grab bag of R&B records 10 for $4!! They have listening stations of you need to listen to a record before making the purchase. Personally, I just opened up Spotify to search music, but as a vinyl noob, I wasn't too concerned with the physical quality.
Vinyl not your speed? They also carry a lot of CDs. Some artists just don't sound great on vinyl..
Regardless, a very cool place to check out whether you are in the market for records, or not.
Christina Miller
Staff knows there music! No "trendy stuck up record store" attitude. Lots of music selection, CD and
vinyl. They have lots of local concert tickets. I have called to check on ticket avabilty and got no tude! I have to say more than half the time I go is when I need a funky gift....for me. Lots of fun stuff like clothing ($$$), humours greeting cards, novelty chewing gum, soaps, car air fresheners, insistence, candles, things like "Dash Borard Buddha" that you know you need! Huge section of Prince memorabilia. Great jewelry, retro candy, pipes for tabbaco use, hard to find cigarettes, cigarette- cases. And my favorite patchouli oil. Ok, I'm pooped, can't say enough! A Minneapolis sturdy business. If you haven't been there you haven seen Minneapolis yet. (Ringo Star even has an Electric Fetus, wore it on the 2010 Grammys!)
Shawn Zak
The best music & head shop in the twin cities, i have been going there since the early nineties. My favorite store to visit anytime im near downtown.
Joey H
The famous 'Fetus' store has it all: music (CD'S, vinyl, etc.), concert tickets, "tobacco" supplies, candy, toys, books, clothes and more. The prices are steep, but you're guaranteed to have fun browsing through every section and it's so easy to find gifts here for loved ones. Long live The Fetus!!!
Julie Schmidt
Staff friendly. Fun stuff, electic gifts to get for special friends. Helpful Staff both on music side and gifts.
Genara Cordero
Excellent staff love this place their vynel selection is great. Staff is so kind and informative. They also have a smoke shop, and books, cool hats, cards, and crafty jewelry.
Creator Knows
Sad changes but still love. NO Insense i only get from you now you don't carry. JEWELRY choices were not so much. Like you lost your good people who order stuff. But don't ever think I still won't drive from Cambridge pick up a friend so they can shop too. Like the new T shirt with the ?Crow. My friend order BAH Thomas was amazing you can make them while you wait 5
Nick Plagman
Amazing store! Could spend hours inside. Huge variety of genres! Some deals when you look carefully and fun cheap little novelty items. Can't wait to get back in there!
Kathy Wimmer
Great eclectic music store. Has a variety of selections and hard to find or rare albums. If you are into music this is definitely somewhere you should visit while in town.
Greg Rollinger
Great music selection and a fun bunch of gift items. Lots of incense also. I always pick some up. Super helpful staff makes it an all around great place to go.
Bek Lease
Old School record store, sells you albums on vinyl. Plenty of Staff available if you have questions. You can also buy tickets for different venues around town like First Avenue. They sell lots of kitschy gifts. A large selection of novelty socks, incense, cards. Also a good place to get a Minnesota themed gift. Occasional in-store events like performances or album signings. This store is a Minneapolis icon!
Shirley Posey
Online mix and match added my Playlist and my choice was to pick-up. I chosen electric fetus store and it was pleasant and my order was ready ☺
Nick Stenstrup
I recently stopped in to purchase an Audio Technica LP60. Was very excited to hear records again, as it had been a while. Sadly, the LP60 I bought did not work, and I was crushed. I then called the store, and the second they picked up the phone my excellent experience began. Bob was so friendly and helpful and nice to me the second we started talking to figure out my problem. Everyone behind the counter was extremely nice and all of them asked if I needed help while Bob was on his way to meet me. I couldn't ask for better customer service. I left the store with a big smile on my face because of how great their customer service was. Thanks Bob and the whole Electric Fetus team!
Miquel Medina
Historic and some might even say legendary record store in Minneapolis. They also have lots of interesting and delightful odds and ends for everybody, so its worth checking out even if you don't collect records.
Doug Baden
Unbelievable selection of used and new LPs, CDs, and DVDs. Such a cool retail store. We love it! It's a dangerous place for me to spend too much time...
David & Flobear Shaugobay
Excellent fun and exciting place to not only find good music, but much more merchandise.
Awesome job. Great place for gifts and shop for yourself .
Audriana Snelling
This store is an iconic part of Minneapolis’s juicy music history, and for that it’s very expensive. I’m pretty sure this is one of the only places that sells official Prince merchandise; by walking in you can tell they’re definitely taking advantage of the fact that they’re allowed to capitalize off of the music genius’s death. (Baby Prince shirts start at about $30).
Besides all of that; the place has a ton of cool gifts, and loves the local art/business/music scene. Under every record slot that’s a local band, you’ll see a small Minnesota emoji next to their highlighted name. (Examples BESIDES from Prince being Lizzo and Hippocampus).
Come here if you’ve yet to check it out, it also holds small concerts if you’re lucky enough to grab a ticket.
Would recommend if you’re a tourist or a first timer with records/the local music scene. If you’re local to the area? Not so much. Cheapo, Down in the Valley, Half Priced Books, Barnes and Noble or even EBay has your back with your record needs, at a decent price.

Love this place! My father and I have been supporting this store for years! I bought my first sage stick from them and my first henna kit! Service is friendly, thank you guys!!
Mike Boe
So glad we still have the electric fetus as a place to go find new and old music. I really enjoy thumbing thru their used CDs to find deeper catalog stuff for artists I like.
They also have a great gift shop that has a lot of good gifts for those people who are hard to buy for....and in stock - so for last-minuters like me, I can get something fun on short notice.
Nicole
Great selection of vinyl and CDs, including used. But be sure to look at the gift area, too. All things Prince, wacky socks, gag gifts, candles, incense & more.
mitch wirfs
Awesome place for music. Good vibes and fair pricing.
Rudy Taylor
Every single thing about this store is perfect 👌💯 My life would have ended long ago if this institution wasn't around. Please help it survive this new era. Staff, inventory, fairness everything is Top Notch 💯❣️🙏 …
Gina Marie
A fun mix of accessories, clothing, old time candy, pipes, records and more! Another plus I learned was that you are more than welcome to bring you dog inside as long as they are leashed. Very friendly staff. It was a fun little outting, I'll be visiting Electric Fetus again!
Coby Depew
The Fetus is a landmark for MN to me. Great album selection, I've gotten some really sweet artwork there which was drawn/painted by a local artist and is a favorite of mine. They also provide you with concert tickets at the registers where the LP's are. Tickets only available through TicketWeb can be purchased here with a reasonable $2 service fee instead of TicketWeb's $10 per ticket service fee. Why pay almost half the price of a concert ticket just to buy the ticket! A selection of glass pipes are available, along with other cool, unique items that aren't seen everyday. Definitely worth it to stop in sometime if you haven't been, even if it's just to window shop.
Katelynn Gibson
I absolutely adore Electric Fetus! So many things to enjoy looking at when I enter the store. Its a very comfortable and welcoming atmosphere! Just made a visit today! 4/14/13

Great vinyl selection and the chilliest vibe. Poster and artwork selection is really unique. Unique gifts. Helpful employees can guide you to anything with some insight.
Melissa R
Famous, popular Minneapolis record store that carries all kinds of items like t-shirts, books, and memorabilia. Been around for decades, and was one of Prince's favorite places to shop for albums and CDs.
Jim Walsh
The store for music heads that still like having a physical copy of their music of choice. Good selection of CD's, concert tickets, some vinyl and a knowledgeable staff all packed into a local store with a lot of charm.
berooobeee
Excellent selection of new LP's, music supplies, clothes and memorabilia. If you are looking for used vinyl of any kind I would recommend Hymie's over E.F.
Kristen Bryan
Iconic Minneapolis music and gift source. Love the selection but the greatest assest is the amazing knowledgeable cool staff. I could shop anywhere but the staff make me want to come back
Joshua Lange
Not the greatest music collection anymore, at least for things I look for, but I think they still do special orders. Must check into that. and has too much of the over priced items in the gift shop side.
Cheryl Logan
Great place for all things music 🎶 My 1st time here and they were able to accommodate my needing things shipped back home. Meant worlds to me. Will definitely return on my next trip back to Minnesota. 💜💜💜😘😘 …
Sam Wolf

Very knowledgeable staff. Prices are higher than elsewhere & elsewhere online but your supporting an independent business & keeping a landmark record store open! Yes, shop here.
Kay Upnorth
This home grown record store is the BEST! My husband comes for the wide music selection, while I'm a fan of the extensive gift shop and cards available here.
Tony Weston
Electric Fetus has been in business since I can remember a long time witch holds a lot of weight. It is really great and very interesting place I mean you can find used CDs in good condition for very cheap I'm talking $4 summer 3 5 hours $6 no more than $6 they also have a lot of vinyl they sell sunglasses jewelry vintage toys and games and there's also a lot of other things that they sell send me that I'm really not aware of cuz I just walk right by when I first come in so I'm not really paying attention cuz I'm not there for that but is definitely a place to go a lot of neat stuff not a good deals on records CDs...
Brad Clark
If your into music, this place rocks! They have all types of media from vinyls to blue-rays, and a sweet atmosphere where they also sell organic products.

I haven't been there in years and a week ago I said to myself that I was going to check them out and I'm so GLAD I did. I ended up spending close to 2 hours making/creating/shopping and simply having a great time, keep up the GREAT job team Electric Fetus
Trevor Wozniak Balanced Personal Training Inc.

Eclectic gifts and a well curated used vinyl selection. This store feels the pulse of Minneapolis's cultural heart. A hub for music, culture, bohemian lifestyle and neighborhood vibes.

Legendary "Roger Nelson" Prince Designer Clothing line add.Beside been Top.places for Vinyl's,Cds,and Latest Concerts/Tour to Prince Collection of Adolescent to Adulthood Tour now. I found it be #1 than Cheapo Record Next.
Kinkel Kinkel
An Minneapolis institution for locals and out-of-towners alike.
Bridget Harrison
Love stopping in when I am in town. The best selection of music available and lots of other really cool stuff. The staff is awesome!
Ross Diller
99.9% of my esoteric compact disc collection was purchase at this Minneapolis institution. I might be able to pay off one of my smaller student loans with the small of fortune that I have happily spent here. Watching the resurgence of interest in vinyl records has been interesting, but I still can't afford a pair of Technic 1200's...wait...those are now rare gems. The only complaint regarding the Electric Fetus is more directed at the City of Minneapolis and how it appeard to be dragging its feet on the construction of the Franklin Avenue bridge. The Super Bowl is over and the residents need to be able to move about their city with some degree of efficiency.
Mavrick Miller
What can be said about Electric Fetus that hasn't already been said a thousand times? It's a Minneapolis staple. Whether you're just in town visiting, or a Minneapolis native that's never been, if you are at all into music, you have to check it out at least once. Some of the vintage records are a bit above market value, but not too crazy.
Nathaniel Engelsen
Electric Fetus is hard to describe. Part record store, part tchotchke shop, part irreverent gift store, it is the premiere destination to take out of towners who are into music. Stocked with amazing releases and wonderful local flavor, it's hard to spend just 5 minutes inside.
Magdalena Hobbs
Love this place!! If you're looking for any gifts for a very hard to please person, go here. They're so amazing. Especially for music lovers.
Nathaniel “Nate” Tower
Electric Fetus is one of the best record stores in the U.S. They have great selection, knowledgeable staff, and reasonable prices. They also run lots of specials. Every music fan needs to visit Electric Fetus. Long live vinyl!
Andor Kiss
Easily, one of the best record stores in the Mid-West.
Nan Zhang
Wide selection of used vinyl records of classical music and movie soundtracks. Friendly staff.
David HUDGENS
Pretty cool place to find vinyl albums, eclectic music choices, and gifts for that special someone. Plenty of parking on the street and next to the building, so that's a positive.
Emma Wolf
I was lucky enough to see an impromptu micro show by Amanda Palmer!! The staff are always so kind and friendly here. It's my preferred record shop!
Tyler Duffy
fun shop with great stock, though noticeably focused on records making up the "rock" section.
Skin Sweatshirt
Been to Electric Fetus at least 200 times. Never have had a bad experience. As someone who isn't into rock or pop I'm not there very long but still a very enjoyable place. Easy parking as well.
Michael Boylen
Other than an indifferent employee - it was very good! Hadn't been there in many years and was really happy to see that it's still the unique and cool place it's always been.
Jesse Smart
This place is a must visit if you are a music fan in Minnesota! So much to offer, and thats not even touching on the historic significance. Cannot recommend highly enough.
Owen Statlander
Tom in the mail order department is THE MAN! Ordered a limited LP and he said they had been down a person or two. I don't care about the delay - he assured me my order was on its way and now sold out! Thanks, Tom!
Josh Becknell
I hope The Fetus remains with the city for as long as Minneapolis remains on a map. And as long as maps are still a thing. Where else am I going to get a piece of unique jewelry for someone, along with a goofy stocking stuffer, plus a vinyl turntable, and everything I could ever imagine playing on it? Oh, and some incense to burn. Lots of incense... And a ticket to that show I want to check out. Sigh. Please don't ever leave me, E.F.
Josh Sadoff
Great store wish they carried more independent music like ginger root and vulfpeck
liverust5
LP selection has increased over the years, fun store to go to, always find something to buy, prices are decent compared to other stores in the area. Wish I lived here so I could stop in every week!
Terry Haese
If there were a "SUPERIOR" category in these reviews, Electric Fetus would receive it from me! While in town for an overnight stay, I made a run to several record stores, including EF, while the rest of the family was at the MoA. While I was paying for my stack of vinyl, I noticed that they had large 32oz bottles of Spin Clean fluid. Long story short - I walked out of the store and left the Spin Clean fluid sitting on the counter and didn't realize it until I got back to Omaha. I gave them a call two days later and these guys confirmed the purchase with my receipt and they shipped the bottle to me - no charge!! I am amazed that these guys would go out of their way like that to provide superior customer service! They definitely gained a repeat customer any time I'm in Minneapolis.
Emily King
One of the best places in the Twin Cities to get funky, edgy gifts, plus a huge selection of new and used vinyl, CDs, DVDs and even cassettes.
Laura Shrode Anderson
One of THE BEST record stores on the planet. They have it all...albums, casettes, CDs, new, used, import, export, concert tickets, KNOWLEDGE, clothes, trinkets, jewelery, paraphernalia. You could spend hours if this is your thing!
Dan Gray
Best record store in the Midwest...by far. Best selection. Taj Mahal picking up a guitar and singing tunes in the middle of the store says it all.
Sean Kurth
Very cool record store that also has a gift shop type part with miscalaneous things like stickers, books, patches jewelry etc. A lot of prince stuff.
Thomas Chicka
Best record store I've ever been to.
Larry Beamon Jr.

Dale McCormick
Lots of new and used records, tapes and CDs The staff is very helpful. Also lots of gift items and clothing. Franklin bridge is closed so come from the east.
Kitty Hopkins
The guys in the record section are amazing! They knew I was in for Celebration 2019 and didn't want to lug all the stuff I bought so they shipped it to me!
Kevin Reed
Great record shop for great music and merchandise
Wade Miller
This is the best place ever! I Love the vinyl selection. The rest of the store is fun too! All sorts of fun stuff.

Was there 4 Prince' official Tribute Thursday nite, Oct 13, 2016 & stayed till the Sun after...So decided 2 venture 2 some of his favorite places...Love the fragrant smells, cozy feel, selections of music, etc. in Ur shop. Still have some incense from my visit, haven't used it... Think eye can tell Y Prince loved ur "Wrecka Stow" so very much !...Thanks 2 Ur friendly, helpful clerks who shared poignant trivia about him 2...Thank U 4 the special additional "Prince" section incl others of his...By the way, since eye grew
up in Harlem, NYC, ur shop also gave me fond memories shared with ur staff of the record stores I enjoyed back when...70's, 80's...Only very few left, like urs, as Prince graced it ...
Richard Anderson
It should be called eclectic fetus! A lot of really cool and unique gift ideas with tons of throwback vinyl records for audiophiles and shoppers alike.
Shawn Moyer
It's a bit more of a head shop and tourist trap than you'd expect, but everybody needs an Electric Fetus t-shirt, of which they have like 10 variations.
Lowell Feldhahn
A staple in the music scene of Minneapolis, come here to buy concert tickets for local venues, vinyl, CDs, used movies, glassware, and a variety of knick knacks that make cute gifts for loved ones.
Kevin
Fun place to browse used and new vinyl. Go on Tuesdays to get $5 discount on used items for every $20 of new vinyl bought.

drew kuef
Great place to get bongs, records, knick-knack gifts, posters to stare at after the bong hit and your listening to records you just bought. So much is here for a modernist (?)
Raymond Alcaraz
Awesome place, especially if you're into vinyl. It's a really well known and cherished spot in the cities.
Kenny Novak
I would have given four stars but knocked one off for bad customer service.
I called them up to see if they had a particular CD in stock and the guy that answered the phone began to berate me, saying they're a music store and that's what they do. Well, I'm sure the Electric Fetus doesn't stock every CD ever made and they might be sold out of that particular one - I'd like to know that before I drive over. The guy eventually calmed down and confirmed that they had it in stock, but he was really rude.
Michael Jacobson
I love this place!! Selection of music is great! New and used albums, vinlys also. I love the vintage style store and clothing
Michael Fox
Great selection of vinyl and cd's. The staff always is very helpful. The atmosphere is fantastic!

David Schomer
Lots of fun Nick nacks and paddy wacks and decent amount of music, much better than Down in the valley as far as prices are concerned, small head shop nothing over the top and DvDs, CDs, Albums, multiple turntables with receivers and speakers set ups, candies and snacks, books, toys, posters, mags, jewelry, clothes, tickets, in-store mini music concerts, what did I forget ?
A L
