I’ve visited Mel Owen from time to time over the course of the year and the staff have always been knowledgeable and kind. In a recent visit, upon looking for clarinet Vandoren reeds, they pulled out two different types and were able to supply detail and recommendations as to which one to pick. Their prices are also lower than that of another music store nearby. Overall, an excellent experience - will definitely be back!

Excellent customer service! Took my son's clarinet in for repair. Melanie was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. Turned out to be a very minor repair. She fixed it immediately at no charge. Highly recommend!

Absolutely THE BEST place to go get musical instruments for orchestra and band. Extremely knowledgeable, able to fix broken instruments. They have an outstanding rental program as well, and will help you decide if renting is better than buying. They have student quality instruments as well as higher end, even some consignments. We don't use their private lesson instructors, so can't rate them, but I did talk to one and thought she was very personable. This is the only place I would recommend to buy instruments...

In looking for a better cello for my kid, the staff was very helpful, knowledgeable, and willing to spend to making sure my kid was comfortable with the process - we never felt rushed or pressured to make a purchase. Also, their options for rent-to-own are very favorable as well. Although we ended up purchasing elsewhere we will likely be back for accessory purchases.

This is a fantastic shop for all our musical needs. I have always felt so served by the staff who are willing to do all they can to meet my needs. They have helped us with brass and string instruments. Though the shop is a bit small, I highly recommend them.

I've had Wayne work on a number of my horns. He does a great job, and is very well priced. If I have an emergency before playing a gig, he will get my horn back to me quickly, sometimes while I wait. He's worked on my saxophones and my clarinets and my oboe. Highly recommended.

Clarinet Player

I have been coming to this store since I got my first clarinet in the 4th grade. It was a Yamaha and I continued to use it throughout college for marching band. Whenever I had an issue with it I took it in and they had it ready for me in a timely manner. Last year, I was in the market for a new professional line clarinet and they went way out of their way to make sure that I got the right clarinet for me. The clarinet that I picked was hand-selected by me and no one else. I am always glad when I walk in the store and speak with the friendly and helpful people there. I can tell they really care about music!

Went in search of a new violin case. The gentleman working was extremely helpful, offered some sound advice. Upon inspection of some of our equipment, he made a recommendation and we purchased a view extras to compliment our violin case purchase. Thank you Mel Owen music.

I've gone here for many years, and watched as the counter employees and teachers nurtured young musicians through the first steps of learning their instruments all the way to becoming fledgeling artists. Their selection is succinct but high quality and well-thought-out, their staff is kind and knowledgeable, and this place looks and feels like a family business (because it is). Don't get me wrong, I still go to the big box retail stores in town for certain things, but I like Mel Owen because they're real people and they really care about their customers.

Extremely friendly and knowledgeable staff. They are musicians themselves, not just sales people (at least they were the day I was there). They help local schools and rent instruments and have books and supplies to go along with the musical instruments.

Did a great job fixing what Delta did to my tuba!!! The instrument repairman really knows his stuff!!! Told me all about the process and fixed some minor problems I hadn't noticed so before they became a big problem. Called with a quote before any work was done!
