Great experience. It was our son's 15th birthday and we were shopping for an amp. Justin helped us out, showed us an amazing amp, gave my son some tips and tricks, and played some guitar with him. However, being the only (probably) brick and mortar music store left in Louisville, the price you'll pay for convenience is a little more premium than your online alternatives. Thanks for being available when I need you most. Like, the time I ran out of microphone wires and Amazon was 5 days from handling them to me.

For a corporate music store, they really do a good job. Knowledgeable staff, no pressure sales, good return policy. They have the "odds and ends" smaller mom and pop stores simply won't have in stock. If something random is needed or breaks, chances are guitar center will have what you need same day. This can be crucial if you use music gear in your career and time is money.

I came in with a bunch of cords, a speaker, and two microphones that i couldn't get to work. They guy who helped me was named Steven. He was very patient and tried everything until he was able to help me figure out I needed to plug in a mixer to the speaker and mic to get them to work. Long story short he was a big help. I came in last night and bought a banjo from an employee whose name I didn’t catch but he was excellent and a funny guy. I returned it this morning with Justin who was perfectly cordial to myself but while I was waiting in line he was helping someone when an elderly lady came up and asked him something, I’m assuming for assistance probably to find a gift. After he told her politely someone else would be able to help her he walked away with the other customer shaking his head and said loudly “Karens man”. To give Justin the benefit of the doubt I don’t know what she said to him, but I felt this use of a pejorative towards a customer who was an elderly lady maybe in her 70’s or 80’s was highly inappropriate regardless of what was said. It was said loudly enough that myself, the customer he was helping, and likely the woman could hear although I doubt she knew what the connotations of that term was.

Guitar Center has a great selection of used gear. The majority of items have 1 low res picture.They also have the wrong pic with item fairly often. Unfortunately they almost never have information in the description. It would be helpful if they listed that there was a power supply included. I'm not talking about a common 9v dc guitar pedal power supply. I'm talking about relatively expensive synths and recording devices that use power supplies with not so common values. It's like winning a prize if they include the power supply. If you don't get one you have to order one to see if the unit works or not. By the time you order a power supply and it's delivered you are gambeling on reaching the return deadline. I also had an issue with a very late shipment. A birthday present that was ordered. It was canceled 3x by G.C. without any email or text alert. It finally arrived (post birthday) Every time I called I asked to speak to a manager (yes I'm a Karen) many times and I never got a call. My experience with customer service and store employees have been very helpful though. They have almost always been helpful and did their best to accommodate. If they did not have great employees I would give Guitar Center a solid 1 star. BTW this was how my last order was packaged and shipped...

Excellent place to find the latest Yamaha synthesizer on display. The MODX8 was on display up front is what I was looking for. The keyboard / synthesizer area had mid to low end prices on display on other manufacturers units. I was disappointed that there was no high end Yamaha synthesizers on display, just 1 unit in showroom. I wanted to see a variety of high end Yamaha synthesizers and would have bought one that day but there was just 2 units to see. Otherwise the store I thought was great. I will be back again and will ask a store associate for help next time.

Not the largest selection I've seen at a guitar center, but good enough, obviously you can order to store. Employees are nice. They don't currently have a repair person working there (september 2020), but plan to fill the position so if you need repair I'd recommend calling ahead.

Guitar Center is a wonderful music store with the newest of musical instruments and technology as well as the standards, and they also have a few used guitars and amplifiers. Additionally, you can order online and have your purchase sent to the Guitar Center and pick it up there. I believe they do some guitar repair work and will even change your guitar strings. If you play drums or guitar or seeing or keyboards or like to record and I encourage you to go into Guitar Center and look around and enjoy yourself!

It's guitar center, any self loving musician resists entering this store unless procrastination has got the best of them and now they need a spare 'this or that' or and extra pair of 'thing-a-ma-bobs' that being said the staff is often helpful as best they can be but mostly know very little about the product they're selling and will just read you the box in the most convincing way possible.... They've got a pretty good 'pro-coverage warranty' and they'll price match, so if you can price match then add the warranty to your gear, you've made out pretty good.... But still, avoid unless it's a musical emergency

They have a lot of stuff and the prices are usually pretty decent but service can be very poor. They don't seem to care too much which is the common thing that people complain about with Guitar Center. It's a big chain and not a mom-and-pop shop run by anyone with a particular passion for the business so it's a good place to go to get commodity things like strings and cords if you're in a hurry and can't get them online for cheaper, but I wouldn't expect good service.

Comfortable size place allows for sitting down and trying out the guitars. Fair prices. Not able to negotiate on prices of Used gear as you can at smaller non-chain music shops. This place always reminds me that I need to stay in school.... first you buy a new instrument, any one take your pic... you can demo them for free and practice a little in store, Anyway, take your new instrument home and learn a couple songs and get good at them, when you finally feel you have mastered it go back to Guitar Center and start jamming live for everyone to hear, show off your amazing skills.... Listen when I say this, THERE IS going to be that one guy standing right behind you that is going to start playing something 30x harder than you just to show off, every time Ive tried to demo any instument here this has happened to me, and fyi even if the store is empty, that one guy who is going to one up you is going to be an employee, yes they are good too.

decent selection of new and mostly mid-range instruments. was disappointed to not find the model i was looking to try out but maybe my expectations were high? despite playing several models for some time, no one ever approached me. actually, no one in the store even acknowledged me save a customer who nodded to me from behind a kit. that can be good or bad depending on who walks in but it was kind of disappointing for me. i haven't been to many of the chain shops but i assume this one is just as good as any other.

For a huge store, they have a big variety of different types of music themes, but not a lot each one. It's a great store for beginners or novice, but if you're advanced, it's better to do your research online and order it.

Hit or miss depending on who you get to help you. Some employees think they are stand off musical genius'and upset for you even being at the store, especially if you have questions or wanna try something out, their attitude is 'how do you not already know this you dumbo and why should I help you?' that's most people, but occasionally you get someone who's willing to work with you and give good information or products pricing etc. I'd say it's best to know what your going to get before you go there... It's not that great of a place to walk in and say, hey I'm looking for this type of sounds or what's the best way to setup up a home studio, etc. Etc. They don't want to answer those questions where they have to think, they just like to sell the product and get you the hell out of there. Good stock, a lot of nice items, and decent pricing for the most part. Some of those employees either need to be fired or need some training in people skills.

This place is basically the Walmart of guitars. You won't find a great deal on a vintage guitar here but for good deals on the latest stuff this place will take good care of you. I would advise going there during non-peak hours as it can get pretty loud in there from the 14 year old metal kids who have to turn everything up to 11 when their skill level is only a 3.

I've shopped here pretty often. Good selection and prices. Also pretty fair on trades. I do find that you have to proactively interact with the staff if you want help. I'm not sure why that is, I assume it's because that store gets a lot of tire kickers and hobby players, or maybe it's a personality type that goes with professional musicians who work at Guitar Center lol. It's not the only place I've experienced that. I have heard the teachers are good, but haven't taken any lessons there. You can meet some really cool musicians there. Sometimes I just go to see who's tinkering in the acoustic room!

I've been a customer with Guitar Center over a decade, at least a decade before one opened here in Louisville. I've spent every bit of 15k there over the years. That is a LOW estimate of what I've spent there.. in fact that estimate doesn't even come close to the true amount. My latest experience with our home store was not very pleasant, I shouldn't feel I am being lectured by the sales person. I think he even may have been the floor manager. No one in the music industry likes a bad attitude. We don't care who you are... It isn't fair to the company or the really good associates to have to be shadowed by the actions of one person, normally they have it together...

This particular location has a decent acoustic guitar selection and every so often gets a used gem in stock. I’ve had some basic work completed by the repair techs, and they were all completed by the promised date and without issue.

RE: Guitar tech work - In 2010-2011, I took an older Kramer guitar I was rebuilding to the Guitar Center guitar tech shop for a refretting and the technician did a spectacular job on the work. The work was completed in a reasonable amount of time and the guitar feels and sounds 10 times better than it did prior to the work. I also had some pickups installed on the same guitar and again the work was very well done. The technician was very professional and had me verify all the work performed prior to leaving the store. I was very satisfied. The cost for all of the repairs I have had performed at Guitar Center were very reasonable and the turn-around times were also acceptable for the work being performed.

It's seems as though they're under new management nowadays, but still continue to employ the good folks that have been there for years. I've always had great experiences with this particular store and would recommend them to anyone. I recently took my cheap knock-off Strat in to Andrew (a guitar tech), who made its sound and playability rival that of a new American Stratocaster! They do great work and always offer insightful gear and musical advice. Go in and see for yourself!

I was trying to find a replacement power adapter for a drum kit for my church. It had not been used in a few years and the old power cable had become frayed and would not work. I brought the old one in and they told me that they don't carry anything like that anymore but could order one.Unfortunately since Radio shack went out of business there arn't many options for old adapters like that. I told the gentleman that it was for church band practice that evening and was really hoping I could find one in town. He went behind the counter and pulled out a large box of old tangled power cables that clearly hadn't been used in a while and no one could tell you what they went to. He found one that might work and gave it to us free of charge and IT WORKED! I am so thankful that he went through all of the trouble of untangling old wires and comparing the specs on the adapters to find one that would work for us. These people really do care about what they do and take pride in customer service.
