Reviews of Guestroom Records
Great place to go if you're looking for vinyl! I was very impressed with their post-punk offerings. Staff have been friendly every time I've come in. They've also been generous about returns--I bought a Mazzy Star album yesterday, got home and realized it was already in my partner's collection, and returned it today. They were very understanding and offered a no-hassle full return. Of course, I couldn't manage to leave without buying 2 more albums! They have a lot to offer--The Cure, Joy Division, Siouxsie and the Banshees--as well as several other genres and new releases. I'll definitely be in from time to time to see what else they have in stock! Reasonable COVID policy, including social distancing.
Enjoyed an afternoon browsing here. They have their Frankfort Avenue shop stocked full. Parking is on street. Guestroom records has a casual vibe with helpful staff. Prices are fair and they had a nice selection of old, new, and staff picks. They also have a selection of Cd's and tapes. Staff was very kind looking up music we couldn't find. Will definitely shop again. Support small and local.
Only downside is the amount of room to move around! Great selection, super nice employees, good prices and rare finds. We appreciated them playing all different genres of music on their speakers.
The guest room is always well organized and welcoming. The employees are knowledgeable and kind, the patronage is fantastic, this is the best record store in lou. Prices are reasonable as well which is always a plus!
FANTASTIC selection of records for ALL genre, GREAT prices, and amazing customer service. Definitely my favorite place to browse and shop for vinyl in all of Kentuckiana. I even found holy grail records like Iowa by Slipknot and Loveless by MBV and many more hard to find records that I’ve been looking for for YEARS while shopping here recently, and was able to get all them off my checklist and into my collection all in one day! Will absolutely be shopping from here for years to come.
We had Guestroom Records on our list of spots to hit for our day trip to Louisville. I learned about it through the "Kentucky Bourbon Country" field guide (published in print 2021) after we were let down by the field guide's advice that the Please and Thank You cafe has a record store, information that based on Google reviews is years old. So actually making it to a really nice record store was awesome. Our visit to Guestroom was also made possible by the fact that it is open til 8, making it a good last stop besides dinner and walks (which we did not do because Louisville was so underwhelming). (I am aware of how spiteful I am sounding, but we have done a lot of looking around Kentucky and Louisville has consistently been a let down! But not Guestroom Records.)
I love this little shop. The record keepers are always super friendly and helpful. My go-to record shop in all of Kentuckiana!
Great selection, great informed staff. Very helpful and friendly. Lots of fun. Highly recommend
Awesome selection of records and cassettes. Super cool and very helpful staff. The front window features free records and art for the best upcoming shows.
This is a great place to start if you're considering a record player. As an added bonus, you get a great discount on records when you buy a turntable.
Travis was phenomenal with his excellent customer service! Held onto A couple albums that weren’t in stock. Said but as soon as they came in he would put them back for me. When the records came in Travis gave me a call so I went after work to picked them up. The store is clean, orderly, awesome service and very Health awareness to ensure everyone safety.
Great record store with some accessories for your turntable. Large selection of new vinyl and cds, with new stock always coming in. Love it everytime I go here!
Loved this place. They've got a great selection, organized by artist, and new ones coming in all the time.
I love this place. Every time I have been there, the employees have always been helpful and pleasant
Always has a great selection. Friendly staff and reasonable prices. Even a nice collectable selection!
The best record store in Louisville! Go here all the time they have awesome staff, always get into some cool conversations, one of the few places that have a good metal section, trade values are more than fair. Amd they're always having awesome events!
Great finds and great prices. The cashier was awesome too.
I haven't been to the store but made a recent online purchase and it was handled so seamlessly I couldn't have been more impressed and hope anyone reading this drops in, as I surely will, if they're in the area. Very friendly staff, amazing packing for online orders and fast shipping. Thanks again!
Great selection and pretty good prices. I picked up a few records
Found some unique finds in the sale bin. Super friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable staff.
Great record store with an awesome selection of Metal! Picked up the mighty Tomb Mold's latest album and wish I had more time to skim what else they had for sale!
Super friendly staff. Good selection of vinyl.
Cool place, clean, organized had exactly what we were looking for vintage, country, & even KISS!!
Prices can be a little steep on some things but overall mostly reasonable. Nice selection with a lot of varieties and genres.
Always good finds. We took some friends here to show them locals in Louisville! They found some great music and had a great time!
Travis and Lisa are awesome, as well as are their employees. Good people and knowledgeable about vinyl. Always find something i have been looking for when i visit. Which is at least twice a week.
HUGE variety with a little something for everyone! Really cool store!
I love this place so much. Staff is always very helpful and I swear I find a gem almost every time I go inside. Would definitely recommend shopping here. Support local business instead of Amazon or Target.
Super cool and friendly record shop in the Clifton area. Highly recommend checking out this shop if you come to Louisville or live here!
If you love vintage music and want a LOT to look at. This place is great. The staffer was super knowledgeable and was glad to make thoughtful recommendations, as I was overwhelmed. Will definitely return.
Found an absolute gem. Buried Inside - Chronoclast on vinyl, original pressing $30.
A good store for new vinyl, not as much for used when it comes to Metal. Nice set up, friendly staff, free street parking, decent location. Would recommend for new metal releases.
Awesome people, great vibes.
All in all cool place.
Absolutely love this little gem ! We now stop in every time we take a trip to Louisville! Their selection is great, atmosphere and customer service is awesome, and good finds that beat online sellers prices. Highly recommend this place!
Great spot. Amazingly vast selection and the guy behind the counter really knows his music. Found 2 great albums here, Herb Alpert deluxe collection and a BTO first release album, well priced and great condition.
Always a great selection in stock. Friendly, helpful staff. And everything is set up to help maintain safe distance and cleanliness. Definitely my favorite spot to get vinyl in Louisville.
Staff was really nice when I visited. The selection was great. Like most record stores everything is organized by genre and then alphabetically but the shelves seemed rather full and it was a little difficult to browse without removing each individual album completely. Staff was happy to check to see if what I was looking for was in the system/in stock but I still had to go on a bit of a hunt to find what I was looking for. Really cool place all together tho!!
Went in today to sell two rare records of mine. Sam I believe was his name was awesome and was completely honest when telling me to sell what I had on the internet versus their store. He explained that for what he could sell them to me for was not the value where it could be elsewhere. I appreciate the honesty and him not trying to undersell something. I will be back in the future to purchase. Thank you for being honest!
Love Guestroom! They have the latest releases and some hidden gems. I once found a record by an obscure Detroit garage band I love that had been hiding in their racks for three years. You can find some starter turntables and accessories here too. They're dog friendly too, so stop in when you're walking your pup along Frankfort Ave.
Friendly staff, very helpful. Nice atmosphere. Really good selection of new vinyl and CDs in addition to used stuff.
I will definitely return.
Second visit, different staff, same friendly service. Really nice record store. Easy parking outside during off peak hours.
Great little store! I usually shop for records at the Dusty Groove in Chicago, but being in town to visit my family, I thought I would search around for a good record store. The store itself is cozy, and has character. Going through the records, I was amazed at the selection of records they had, espescially goth records. I ended up purchasing two records. They were remasters, but I had found the original pressings for cheaper on discogs. To my surprise, they let me return the records, and gave me a full refund! The staff are very friendly, great selection, and a nice little shop in general. Definitely will come back on my next visit.
Wonderful record store. The employees all know exactly what you’re looking for, and if they don’t, are always willing to help you find it. More selection on more obscure artists than ANY store in the city. Wonderful record store with the best selection in the city!
Homey... great stock! Friendly staff
My fav record store in Louisville great selection of punk emo alt etc def go there of you are looking for alternative music
Great selection of all kinds of records and even better customer service. I inquired about a record that wasn't in, but they were getting it the next day. When it arrived, I got a FB message saying they were holding it for me.
As an added bonus, I work less than five minutes away, so it's the perfect place to get away from the office, relax a little and dig through all their vinyl. Highly recommend.
One of the two record stores in Louisville worth visiting. Well curated selection, decent prices, and the occasional surprise find!
I can not express this enough!! They are THE BEST record store in town! They always have exactly what you are looking for. If you ever need help finding anything they are some of the kindest souls to talk to and they will help you find what ever record you are looking for! The selection is mainly records but they do have a fair selection of CDs in stock as well and if you ever ask them for a CD/record that they don't have in stock they will order it for you! Can not recommend this place enough!
The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. They have a good selection of new and used vinyl. They can look up very easily if they have a title you can't find. It's a local store and prices are not much higher than Amazon.
My new favorite record store. Excellent selection. New stuff is pricey, but I'd rather support local than save a buck with Amazon. Used section is crazy good, and organized. Most places here don't organize their clearance section at all.
Great inventory and competitive pricing. First time on here I called ahead and asked for a popular record to be set aside and the employee was kind, quick, and helpful. Also their CoVid precautions are phenomenal with supplied gloves, masks, and hand sanitizer. Thank you!
I always leave this store with something. Wide range of new and used vinyl. One of my favorite record stores in the city. The owner is awesome everything about the store is awesome.
Awesome little record store with a very weird selection. They will have rarities of obscure artists and won't have some regular artists at all, but I still had fun and love the environment. Go for the screen printed posters and finding new bands that are playing over the speakers.
Cool store!
Great selection!
The owners are helpful and knowledgeable.
This is my favorite record store in Louisville. It’s super organized. Great staff. It’s my go to spot for records.
We walked here because we were eating next door. We did end up purchasing two records as you can see from the photos below. We visit ALOT of record stores across the country. In my opinion the store has way to many new records and not enough vintage records. The records are also not organized very well because they are not alphabetical only categorized by gene. Lastly the prices are a bit high on some things I thought. Having said that we did support the store by making two purchases.
Great selection and friendly staff. We never leave without finding a good record or three
Without a doubt, one of my favorite record shops in the world. The staff has always been super helpful and the selection is awesome. I’d rate higher if I could.
Friendly neighborhood record shop. Great collection too, but I still miss Ear X-tacy 😢... …
I've been to quite a few record stores in my time collecting vinyl. I've been to “some of the best record stores in America” according to a variety of allegedly credible websites on this subject, and while many of those record stores were great and had a fantastic selection of music on their own right, Guestroom Records in Louisville holds a special place in my heart. I've been to stores in Portland, Chicago, Nashville, Atlanta, even Montana, but Guestroom is special to me because of their incredibly friendly and well knowledged staff and their wide array of genres and fantastic selection of vinyl, cassettes, and more. Whether you're interested in punk, alternative or indie rock, jazz, electronic, hip-hop, folk and country, or metal, Guestroom most likely has something for you in store. They also always keep a great selection of used records around and you'll almost always leave with a nice find if you do some crate digging. I can't say enough good things about Guestroom Records. Check it out.
Large collection of alt/rock/indie. Staff is very helpful. Great location in a bustling but chill neighborhood full of cafes and bistros intermixed among old residential homes. Prices are average.
Great people, great record selection. I don't buy as many records as I used to but I try to buy as many as I can at Guestroom. Love this place.
The best record store in the city. The staff is super friendly. Excellent used selection. They get all the new releases and obscure ones.
This place captures what a record store is all about to me. Its a small, comfortable place that feels like it could be someone's home. With music playing and hand-written signs strewn around the room, it practically invites you in and gives you a hug while selling you records. While most of the records are more recent releases in indie/rock music, they also have a great selection of older music and music in other genres like metal or hip-hop. The staff is always very friendly as well, and will strike up a conversation about whatever record(s) I'm buying or looking at. They really seem like they want to be there and help you, not that it's just their job. At the same time, they have signs and posters around that support local music. This place feels like it could be in some indie movie, and in 2016, that's exactly what a record store should strive for - indie.
One of the best record stores in Louisville. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They have a great selection of new and used records, CDs, cassettes and more.
Love the store and the people! Best in Louisville and one of my favs in the country!
Always good selections and organization. Pricing varies from a deal to a finders fee since stuff is curated.I usually put this on my stops every time I'm in town.
Really cool owners and customer service plus they have a good collection of new and old vinyls. Ill go here or just order mine offline if i need something now.
Awesome little record store on Frankfort Ave.!
Good little store. the selection was pretty good and had a lot of new records. the store was clean, and the staff was friendly. Not my favorite place in town, but definitely up there.
My favorite record store in town. Everyone is always friendly and helpful, willing to help you find what you're looking for, make suggestions, and even order in what they might not have in stock. Unmatched service and great selection.
Went looking for one thing, left with two others!
Fantastic record store with a great selection, especially of indie and punk records. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Stop in and get some tunes!
Great local shop!
Good sized store, but mostly new albums and re-pressings. Not as much vintage stuff as I was hoping for.
Great selection- wide variety. Mostly records, but also cds. The neighborhood location is excellent.
Super fast order fulfillment and shipping. Fair and honest price, especially considering many shops and sellers use RSD as an opportunity to price gouge. A+++
I stop in here a couple times a month and have found some gems. Staff is super helpful and friendly.
Friendly staff. Clean store. No doubt you'll find something to walk out with every visit. Support your local record stores!
Great selection, good vibes, my favorite record store in the city! John K. is half the experience of Guestroom and is always happy to help when needed 🤘 …
Super cool inde store. Spacious. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Great selection of the classics, indie, jazz, Americana and an ever changing bargain bin.
Great selection of records, cassettes and CD's with a decent used section for lower priced merch. Plus they carry Zotz candy, so they're obviously a necessary stop on Frankfort Ave.
Excellent selection. Two things; please carry GRUV Glide, and please choose a price tag sticker material that can be removed without damaging the dust jackets on the valuable records that you sell.
Great stuff you want to play or collect with a solid surley owner and off nowhere location. Decent prices
Travis, john, and everyone else at guestroom are solid gold. So stoked to be a couple of doors down from such a great record store. Also, get in there and buy the new institute record. If you know, you know...
Best record store in Louisville
Lisa and Travis are incredibly friendly and were super helpful! I am glad to have started doing business with them and look forward to continuing to do so!!
Super cool music store for people who car about things like listening on vinyl.
Great selection! Really nice employees. Check out the new used arrivals for some great deals.
They have a lot of records. Old hard to find collectables, and new stuff. They have record for songs that were released on CD. Decent collection of obscure finds, punk music, oldies, local music, whatever you're into
Great shop in Louisville for vinyl.
Great stock, great service, and great owners.
Repeat customer here for sure.
Had a huge variety of CDs and Vinyl. Staff was friendly as can be. Awesome little place to walk around and see what you can find. The only bad part is how small it is
Good selection, heavy indie rock focus. Prices are fair but not truly great. Well organized, easy to flip through.
Best record store in town. Great selection and friendly staff.
Good selection of recent and new cd. Loads of vinyl. Support your independent record store, there's not many left.
Friendly, knowledgeable staff, and a great selection from a variety of genres. My go-to record store.
