As an artist, I've worked with Nick Stevens, many times, at this studio. He is professional; thorough; personable, and strictly business! The studio is beautiful; spacious; and very comfortable. This is one of the top studios to book, in Louisville.

If you're looking for a real studio experience in this latter day world of project rooms, Downtown is an absolute pearl.
First off, the space - big, wide open live room with plenty of awesome places for instruments and distant mics.
Second, a killer mic locker. If you want the sound of a vintage this or that - use the actual mic to begin with! Tons of options to play with.
Third, a Neve Melbourne sidecar that is an absolute beast for tracking drums to digital. I'm a huge fan of capturing "that" sound before it hits disk and this is the way to get there. The AMEK 2500 desk is quite good, too.
Lastly - TAPE. If you want the sound of tape? Cut to tape. I believe they have both a 16 and 24 track headstack for their 2" machine still. I can't remember the last time I had enough budget for tape - but it's there.
I really don't use pro rooms for anything beyond tracking drums - I have my own space for overdubs and mixing that I'm quite comfortable with (especially since it's $0/hr) - but if you need to get big room sounds, go cut in a big room!
