High quality LPs in good condition at reasonable prices (plus plenty of bargains). I love how the stock is well organised into clearly labelled categories, even the $1 bargains in ‘the attic’ (northernmost corner). All LPs except the $1 ones come in new heavy duty plastic sleeves. There’s also a surprising amount of original sealed stock. The no. 1 bus from Santa Monica to UCLA/DTLA stops right outside (at least one staff person rides it) and the westbound immediately across Santa Monica Boulevard, so you can minimise your shopping carbon footprint.

Been coming here for 30 years, this is the 3rd location they've been in since I've been a customer. Staff is talented and knows their stuff, the collection is always rotating and there are always great finds. Listening stations are also on offer so you can check quality.

I stop by here at least once a month as they continuously add new stock. If you enjoy browsing or collecting physical music or movie media this is the place for you. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable, used items are pristine, if you don't mind a few light scratches they have a large budget sections where you can get CDs and movies for a dollar each A+++

I was surprised to find this place very close to where I moved here in Santa Monica and I plan on being a more frequent shopper. I ran in the other day when I had a few minutes and grabbed a couple records which were in excellent condition I got Diver Down by Van Halen and an Aldo Nova album. Those of you who know who that is are in My Generational pool I would imagine, as were the employees that waited on me. They were friendly knowledgeable of the artist that I was purchasing and it was an overall pleasant experience I highly recommend this place it looks so organized and clean but I didn't spend too much time there yet PS I know the Van Halen album with a little pricey but it was in mint condition so I can't complain

Great selection of jazz, country, and older classics, plus some pretty cool rarities and collectables. Mostly very fair prices, walked out with a Gauntlet Hair record for $7! However, as a metal head would've really loved if they stocked more metal, and same goes for hip hop. Totally get that this is a used store and you largely stock what you can get your hands on, but don't know that this will become a spot I go to regularly.

If you visit one record store in Los Angeles, make it Record Surplus. There are many reasons. Price and selection are top notch. The staff is always kind, welcoming and considerate. They will talk music with you, answer questions, and walk you over to the artist or section you are looking for. The store is family owned and operated like you are in their home. This is a mission driven operation, aimed at celebrating music, providing an honest service and setting the tone for an enjoyable and thoughtful shopping experience. Visiting Los Angeles I wanted to catch a couple of good used vinyl stores. I was most excited about Amoeba records But honestly Record Surplus was the best place we went to, blew Amoeba away. The prices were reasonable, the quality of the vinyl was good and they had a great selection. I found a couple things that I've been looking for for a long time at a good price. The set up was good, there were listening stations so you can hear the records before you buy them. The staff seemed knowledgeable and were helpful and friendly. If I had only one place to go for used vinyl in LA, this would be it.

I am, many years later, rewriting my old 2014 review. My partner and I went back each year to Record Surplus, and loved it. Fine selection of $1 a disc albums as well as their regularly priced stock of records and CDs. It is a place every out of town record collector should visit. We bought and enjoyed. Now that my partner as passed, I’ll not be back, but have great memories and the purchases I made at Record Surplus. Thank you, guys, it was fun.

I stopped by this record store on a whim and was pleasantly surprise. It was pretty busy and seemed to have a good amount of records in addition to DVD's and CD's as well. The have mostly used records, but do have a selection of new records as well. The staff were friendly, calm and helpful. The prices were reasonable and the quality of the used records that I looked at were pristine. I would definitely come by here again.

Update: staff here have gotten super weird and unfriendly. In the last two months I’ve had three or four weird encounters with the staff. I don’t see Neil in anymore, just the awkward quiet dudes who just want to price records and not be bothered. Records are still good but the atmosphere inside has been way different and cold. One of the best record stores in the state and probably the country. Really, really diverse selections of new and used records at very reasonable prices. Their clearance section is usually ace, in the last 10 months I have picked about 120 LPs of really great stuff: Johnny Cash, Robert Johnson, Sketches of Spain, Deep Purple, Jimmy Cliff, an og mono copy of Born Under a Bad Sign, etc etc. Good stuff you don’t see in dollar bins anymore. Some great used stuff hidden in there: Doug Sahm’s Groover’s Paradise for $13(!!!!!). Jamey Johnson’s Guitar Song for $30 because of a slight warp but still plays perfectly. I mean.... that’s crazy. Their country section is full of cheese could use a little work but all other genres are well stocked and full of gems. Friendly staff who really know their stuff and a cast of daily regulars who drift in and out. This store is as close to High Fidelity as I’ve ever seen. Go buy records there.

Staff is still helpful and friendly, but I generally avoid Record Surplus. 10 years ago, this place was my go-to for vinyl. Now, the lack of parking (spaces are reserved for employees only) and deluge of Westside "vinyl collectors" driving up prices to eBay levels has made it a no-go for me. Prices around $40 for albums that can be found for $20-$25 elsewhere. Even used CDs are priced like it's early 2000s. I can find a deal here every so often, but the amount of time I need to invest to both find parking and comb through their collection generally isn't worth it. Verdict: If you're a "collector' who is looking to find LPs in mint condition that you can play a few times a year, this is a good spot.

There is a lot of unexpected vinyl here of all genres. RnB, rap, rock, metal, punk, country, and so on. There is a section, I think it's called "The Attic", which is on the main floor. This section is a glorious scavenger hunt with some real gems. There are stations to listen to what you want to here. Staff are very easy going.

Nice open space, clean, huge classical & jazz section, huge soul section& nice assortment and organization of international records. Good bargain prices for old records. Very friendly and helpful staff. Multiple listening stations. Goods arent onlu limited to records either; Cds DvDs and cassettes are avaliable to choose from as well.

A rare gem of store. Originally the store was on pico blvd for over 20 years. When the new owner took over and moved the store to its new home on Santa Monica Blvd. I was wondering if it was going to survive the change.It has and nice that I can still go there and shop.Great place for cds, lps, vhs, dvds blue rays and other past trinkets.I always am astounded to still find something cool to buy and add to my collection of trinkets.Switching to blue ray now I have found a lot of great films and even some rare films on regular dvd as well.Owner Neil is very friendly fellow too.

I really feared the worst coming home to visit and finding their former location gone. So I was in shock when I saw them on Santa Monica, alive and well! Walked in and it was just like a step back in time. Pretty similar layout, and I found some great deals as always. So happy..!

I always drop by to see what's new. New stock always arriving. Lots of great old vinyl and 45s at good prices, all genres. Tons of used CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray and YES, some 8-tracks, cassettes and laserdiscs. Picked up a 1970 Sonny Boy Williamson and The Yardbirds (with Eric Clapton) Live that was a promo copy from Bringham Young University's radio station that looked brand new, played flawlessly. Multiple listening stations to sample whatever vinyl or CD you may be interested in. Live in store performances as well, saw The Muffs and Kim Lenz there. Supplies and used equipment too. Worth the trip

Best gym in Los Angeles if you don’t like it here please go somewhere else . More time for me. On the machines and I don’t have to pick up after you and wAtch you talk and text the whole time . I don’t have to smell you or ask you to hurry up . This place will only take donations of laserdisc movies(no trade) and then resells them for whatever their value is. The best part of this store is that people in the movie industry trade in brand new movies still factory sealed and they resell them at used prices(where other shops resell as new). So you can usually go to the shop the day a movie comes out on blu-ray and pick it up used there at a cheaper price than buying the same movie at a best buy or target or whatnot. Their vinyl selection is ok. Also this is a great place to pay with cash as they will not charge you tax if you have cash!

UCLA에서 버스로 약 20분 거리에 있으며 정류장 하차 후 쭉 직진하면 바로 접근할 수 있었습니다. 레코드 수집을 좋아하신다면 꼭 가보시길 바랍니다:)
