Awesome spot! Great vibe, coffee, tunes, and folks. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Indy. I love that they're taking COVID seriously as well.
Francis Soriano
Such a great vibe and amazing decor. One of the coolest record shops I've been to! It even has a small stage as well as a coffee shop inside!
Calla Bjorklund Jarvie
Loved this store! They had an incredible selection of records, new and used. Though we didn't partake, I love that you can get coffee, wine, and beer there as well. Loved the retro furniture and listening nooks. We stopped here at the beginning of a multi-state camping road trip, and my husband bought a record. They were happy to ship it to our home so we didn't have to risk it getting crushed or warped in the heat. Highly recommend!

Absolutely loved this store. You can find just about any album in this store. The owner of the store was in during our visit, was very friendly and helpful. It is amazing inside, definitely a place everyone needs to check out. Will definitely be back.
Emily Araujo
Vibe and atmosphere was spot on. Loved the coffee bar as well.
However, be warned. We bought 2 vinyls from the $3 bins and both are completed warped and unplayable. Partly my fault for not inspecting or playing first, but a little disappointing coming from a vinyl store.
Lesson learned 🙂 …
Cheyenne Jackson
They have a wide variety of vinyls. There's a $3 clearance section that has some surprises mixed in. The vibes are very relaxed. They have a small stage and a musician was performing while we looked through the inventory.
RJ Walters
Decent sized selection of vinyl, though as to be expected most were re-releases. The drinks were tasty and the atmosphere was laid back and chill.
Erinn Larsen
Very knowledgeable workers! It is beautiful inside! A ton of records to pick from!
Robert Sundvall
This is a groovy little gem! I was pleasantly surprised by the comfortable atmosphere, great tunes, and great coffee! The barista was very cool, he was very helpful with ensuring there was no dairy in my mocha, and was quick to accomodate any request. Great selection of vinyl, and quite a few beer choices as well! A great spot to come and get some work done, just hang out, or find your next rockin' vinyl! Will definitely be back next time I'm in Indy!

Super awesome find in Fountain Square! There is a little bit of everything: vinyls, beer, coffee, pastries, live music and DOGS! Well the store itself doesn't have dogs but the location is pet friendly! Great atmosphere to chill and listen to some live music. The bartender/ barista was so friendly and gave great service. The coffee is made in house and tasted great. The beer selection was local and lengthy. Absolutely coming here again!
Lemon Heart
Chill atmosphere with zero pressure, I always leave with a couple records from the bargain bin even if I don’t find something newer (:
Dr. Steel
Square Cat is what a record store used and should be!! A place to sink into your love of music and dig into all the crates! Complete with a in house coffee shop and stage forlive preformances. Plus the staff if knowledge and super laid back, everything you want in a record store!
Kelly Fasoldt
If quality chai is what you want, this is the place. I had a chai latte with oat milk and it was the best chai I’ve ever had. The ginger in it is so warming and lovely. Also, I had a sausage breakfast wrap that was very delicious. There are plenty of outlets by the bar, so bring your work and enjoy the space.
Moor dUb
Records, beer, and good coffee. The place is great and the staff is very friendly. Open mics, Hip Hop night.
Mr. Kinetik (Mr. Kinetik)
Really dope record store with great people working. Can get some good beverages and dig on some great and sometimes rare gems vinyl.
Natalie Woods
Great atmosphere. Very funky and I love it. The coffee is also great and a nice selection of beers also.
The only con was the poor quality of used records for the price. I understand that buying used you don’t know what you are getting, but it just felt like the majority we got were poor quality, BUT they do have an area where you can listen before you buy - so that was our fault.
Would go back again!
Bodacious Pizza
Cool spot, great people. Very neat and organized but doesn't feel like a museum.
John Neary
Charlie Parr was so great at this venue. I can't wait to go see another show here.
Romily Bridges
We went for Hip Hop night. It was open Mic. There were a number of MC's. It's awesome to know that there is a high level of artistry that exists in Indianapolis and there are places for them to express themselves.
Tim Davis
typical record store attitudes
not the best selection
they did add semi private listening stations which are kinda cool
also you can have a coffee etc. or a beer!!! while you browse.
Bri
The coffee tasted absolutely delightful and they were extremely helpful when it came to figuring out what i want. I ended up staying way longer than I had planned because Caleb & Kat created such a wonderful, genuine, & welcoming experience. Very happy with my experience today and would 10/10 recommend you ask Caleb to make you the maple bush fire latte. He killed it.
Laura Giffel
Obviously a fantastic record collection but also a great place to work for a few hours. A+ coffee, friendly folks and awesome vibes.
Joshua
Really dig this place. They have a good mix of used and new records for vinyl fans, but they’re also a live music venue and coffee shop with plenty of space to sit. Their menu isn’t big but I don’t drink much beyond black coffee lol. The folks who works there are nice and it feels really homely, which is everything I always hope for in a coffee shop. Also I picked up this Charles Bradley album (RIP) last time I was there!
Janet Gonzalez
Visiting here from Chicago and had some spare time before attending a show at the venue across the street. Pretty cool place with lots of vinyl selections but no one greeted us when we walked in nor while we where there. Cool spot though.
beth aiton
Went for a show, had an amazing coffee and enjoyed the atmosphere. If you like vinyl they have an enormous selection. Made me want to get a player.
Don Schaeffer
Awesome selection, cool vibes..I'll be back
Chris Kirby
I have went to this location a couple times and both times I have been here it was fantastic!
The atmosphere is great if you love hearing different genres of music as they always have something different spinning while you browse vinyls or stop for some of the coffee.
The coffee here is delicious! I have had a couple different coffee drinks and both were brewed very well!
Keep up the great work!
Thomas Mann
I really love this store. The only thing keeping me from rating it a full five stars is, as many times as I've bought music from them, I have yet to try to their coffee. One day I'll remember that, grab myself a cup, and update this review.
Jonathan Siegert
Great variety of records. Very easy to go through their new arrivals (used and new) and their new library is easy to go through.
I do wish their section of bargain-used records was actually organized. It's just exhausting to try and go through them all to try and not miss out on a random deal.
Anthony R.
Excellent bargain bin. Very well kept shop, with vinyl testing available!
JadendayZero
Coffee is good and the chill atmosphere is so good. They remodeled and doubled in size! They have some arcades in the back but not sure what's that about. Overall a good place to hangout and buy some music from local artist or big label ones.

Hello-
Is there anyone in there?
This is Ground Control to Major Tom-
I am made almost entirely of music-
That being the case, I don't get out much (seeing how that requires physical form and all) or feel compelled to connect to the Interwebs and share an experience.
As I arrived at 11:30PM:
I passed the owner (Kurt) who was probably begrudgingly walking to his car-
*It should be noted that I recognized Kurt because he was my Vet for nearly a decade;**He had been at the Shop since early AM preparing for this big day which included Live in House & Street Performed Music; ***He was an amazing Vet; ****I didn't announce myself and I had yet to visit his Shop*****Kurt used to host and book musicians to perform concert events in his home!
Vibe:
Vibrant, Warm, Welcoming, Conducive for Musical Experience-
Music Selection in the Front, A Bar and Barista in the back with Coffee and Beer!
It's OPEN UNTIL MIDNIGHT MOST NIGHTS!!! Live Music, Vinyl, Coffee and Beer until Midnight….
Local Musicians could be overheard having a conversation about upcoming shows, the door frequently sprung open with excited energy
Everyone was truly enjoying their experiences-
Absent were the oppressive glares of judgment from the Lester Bangs and Barry Judds of the MusicVerse
We all go to a record shop to feel. This Shop feels right and deserves recognition and Community Support.
For any aspiring entrepreneurs out there, let me share the secret formula for starting a business from someone who like Kurt has put his heart and soul into building one for all the right reasons
The formula for WHY you start a business: 1) Passion, 2) Purpose, 3) To Fill a Need or Provide a Service Through an Insatiable Desire to Make a Conscientious Contribution to the Community, 4) Provide a Welcoming Place for Others Who Feel Like You do- to Enjoy Working There as They Develop Themselves
Selection:
Let's be honest, more often than not we all have unrealistic expectations-
Before going to a Shop we have grandiose visions of finding something obscure or being turned on to something new-
From a business owner's perspective, you can't imagine how difficult it would be stock all the inventory to meet our varied subjective tastes-
Kurt and the Square Cat Team have TRULY done an exceptional job providing a great selection of "quality" and "vital" music;
A very balanced mix of new and used; a $3.00 value section; Solid Featured Recommendations
In 30 minutes, I was able to pick-up:
1. Public Enemy's "It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back"
An essential underground Hip Hop Classic, one of the ten best ever….I bought this as a cassette at Frog Records in Indy 29 years ago *(Not widely carried)
2. Beastie Boys "Paul's Boutique"
Another essential piece of Hip Hop history that still stands up better than most today
3. Elliott Smith - He was an amazing writer, whose transparent work and life are a sad reminder and should be held in the public consciousness
4. Ben Folds "Live at MySpace" (In New Release Section) - I was initially reluctant to pick this up, I've seen Ben about 15 times live and his gifts and presence don't always translate well. This is an exceptional album, I can't believe it was never released before; I've already listed to both records twice and I think it's the best example I've heard that captures his genuine nature, talent, wit, and humor. Highly recommended for any Ben Folds Fans and New Listeners
Experience:
As I was leaving, I quasi introduced myself and shared how much I really liked the shop-
The young man behind the counter proclaimed "I love this job; I probably have the best job in the world" & "Kurt is a Great Guy" and "Great to Work For"
[Cue: "Shiny Happy People" by R.E.M.]
Great Shop Kurt & the Square Cat Vinyl Team, you should be proud- you've nailed the Experience
Elvis has left the building…

Great place that is locally owned by some wonderful people. Good local and national bands, a fantastic selection of vinyl, and amazingly tasty coffee drinks.
The peanut butter latte will change your life.
Give these people your money.
±+++++++++++
Amazing coffee. Great records. Give these people your money. Why are you going down the street to that other place run by their landlord?
Casey Peetz
Super cute aesthetic and good selection
Anthony N Dana Vasquez
the most retro chills record store with the most in tune workers I've seen! well done!
Mel Rodriguez
Wide variety of music, vinyls, and CDs.
Staff was friendly and helped us look for what we needed. They have food and drink options and live music on certain days.
Maddie Gullion
cute little shop in FSQ! I love the vibe and the color scheme of the place. staff was friendly and helpful. I didn’t have time to stay long, but I can’t wait to go back and spend a couple hours with a warm drink and a good book.
Nathyn “DJ Lionfish” McKenna
Had lots of interesting vinyl to look at. Whenever I go to stores that sell vinyl I never have a plan to find anything specific and I walked away with a lot more than then I was expecting. I was greeted with nice staff and the place was all around nice to be at. 10/10 would recomend and would go back again.
AuctionSellerNetwork LLC
Small and cool venue. Prices very reasonable for vinyl new, used or rare. Live acts some nights... good entertainment.
Beth Darragh
Square cat always has something good happening. Local artists, musicians, coffee bar, beer (or wine), vinyl records...who could ask for more?
Madeline Patterson Smith
The staff and store are wonderful - they went above and beyond for my family event and the updated space is very cool. There's a stage, and a bar that serves coffee in the morning and beers later in the day - plus the hours are so accommodating for shopping almost anytime.
Steven Riddle
One of the Best record stores in indy. Get ya a coffee, a beer, a record(s), or if you're lucky enough, see a show there. Great people, and a great place.
Grant McClintock
The newly renovated space is fantastic and filled with vinyl from wall to wall! Great selection of Indiana beer, and an Indiana music section.
Special shout out to ownership/management for accommodating a request, in celebrating our fifth wedding anniversary! We love you SCV.
Mary Burton
This place is super cool. I love the all ages café bar and live music performances. I tried the hot chocolate when I was there and it was fantastic. It can get very crowded during the live music performances, so keep that in mind if you are claustrophobic. The record selection is not huge (there is only so much space) but they seemed to have a good variety, with both new and used and also a section of local releases. The staff has been friendly and helpful whenever I have been there.
Jeremiah Medley
I want to like Square Cat: love the coffee and vinyl idea. But used selection of Square Cat is lacking. Lots of old stuff that’s not very interesting- just a lot of $3 bargain stuff. Not much rare collectible used stock. New stock isn’t bad though. Good for the most part but nothing really to write home about. Hopefully it continues to grow!
Erin Worman
What was intended as a stop for the critically acclaimed (critic being my aunt) Gluten Free Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie, ended up an unforgettable experience. My toddler girls were immediately drawn to the "stage" with comfortable, vintage furniture and a community turntable. They picked their chairs, sat down and chilled. We ended up getting the Pecan Pie Latte which is a perfect blend of coffee with just enough sweet. It was prepared by the stores owner who is friendly, personable and no doubt the reason this store is successful. The cookie - BAH! - it's gigantic and is easily one of the best cookies I've had. Did I mention it's gluten free? Okay - I'm jumping around here. Go. Listen. Buy. Taste. I would tell you to enjoy but that goes without saying. Square Cat Vinyl is a gem in this city. I look forward to many visits.
Jeremiah Starling
Excellent selection, nice little coffee, beer, and wine bar, friendly employees. Check it out!
Justin Barnes
What an awesome little dive. Loved the coffee and spent a good 30 mins just browsing through the records for sale. What I really loved was the no pressure atmosphere and staff. We browsed and sipped our coffee at our own pace without anyone trying to pressure us into buying something or constantly starring at you. Just a relaxing place with a cool vibe.
Kathy Crafton
Lots of vinyl and a cafe. Very nice!!!
Aja Boudreau
Great record shop in Fountain Square. Cool, hip vibe and a great selection of tunes. You can purchase a beer and sip while you shop. They often have live, local music; be sure to stop in on first Fridays as there is bound to be something going on. I recently purchased a new album and realized it was warped when I got it home and out of the packaging. I was able to easily exchange for a new one and received excellent customer service. Glad to have this in the neighborhood.
Matt Delaney
Very well kept and comfortable location. They have a solid selection and a lot of ways to stumble onto an old classic. Staff was friendly.
Jacob Kozlowski
Easily one of the best record stores in Indianapolis. Beyond that, it's an INCREDIBLE place to watch local and touring acts perform, and a great bar to chill at to have a few beers or a fantastic cup of coffee. The staff is PHENOMENAL. Could not recommend this place more. Stop in whenever you have the chance and check it out for yourself.
Kelly Perry
I love the remodel!!!! The vibe here is so comforting. My dirty chai was served right up in an actual coffee cup! Staff is phenomenal! Highly recommend
Jennifer Barr
I just love this place for the originality of it, the location, and the bands. They have an extensive music selection for such a small place. They have some of the best local talent play here if you're into live music. My only complaint is that it's too small for some of the great music shows they put on. But I'm also torn because the smallness of it is what makes it such an intimate setting, which has its own charm. And I am also slightly biased for liking it so much because it was the meeting place I chose for my first date with the love of my life when they very first opened :)
Rachel S
Cute lively place to look at records or grab some coffee.
Ben Burns
Nice addition to the square. Friendly staff buys and sells vinyl, and they'll also make you a mean cup of cold brew. Beer and wine available as well! Fair prices on new and gently used vinyl. Support local!
Marci Ball
Super cute spot. Best Americano I've ever had. I love their coffee, and browsing the records. They have a great selection of new and used albums, and we've found some nice hidden gems in their bins!
Josiah Ferris
Great selection of records. Delicious beverages (Kombucha for me). My friend Grant bought me a Sleeping Bag record and I love it. Highly recommend!
Michael
Nice little shop with kind people. Records are a bit expensive but nothing too crazy. Would definitely rather spend my money here than Walmart or Barnes and nobles. They have a cafe type thing in there.
abhinav chandrappa
Cool place. A huge collection of vinyl
Melissa Rodriguez
Tonic Ball was great!!! This place and their staff nailed it!
Jason Ward
Though I am not a vinyl enthusiast, I frequent Square Cat for the coffee and beer. They are a great local venue for a quick drink with friends or coworkers. The staff is friendly, helpful, and always willing to have a conversation about anything.
Zac
Fantastic location. The staff are great, the record selection is awesome, the coffee is delicious (drip coffee and latte), would definitely recommend!
Darren Chittick
Tasty herbal infusion, the person at the counter was lovely, and the second staff member friendly. We enjoyed our time.
rae e
Went late morning on a Sunday and the vibe was mellow and relaxing. Coffee and bar at the back of the store. Mostly new records but there are some old records to rummage through in the front and towards the back. The old records are reasonably priced. Nice shop!
Marc Ebtinger
Excellent pace for many reasons. Coffee, nice room, plenty of vinyl albums to browse, and nice friendly staff.
Jim Kidwell
Fun record store with a little bit of everything. Much of the stock is new as on June 2022.
Chase Harker
Very cool vinyl shop. Relaxing atmosphere. Mostly new with some used. Nice place to hang out and talk music.
Matt Fullington
The shows that are thrown here are always great. The collection of vinyls is always very diverse and well selected. The coffee is phenomenal and so are the people. One of my favorite places in Indy.
Zak Bittinger
All in all one of my favorite vinyl shops in Indianapolis. Friendly, helpful staff and a great selection of vinyl, including some very cheap records. Only downside is that most of the selection is still in wrapping and personally I can't afford $20+ for a single record. Otherwise, also a cool place to grab a beer or coffee and take in some live music!
Mike Rettig
Beer? Coffee? Records? Nice little store that has all this and does a great job at supporting local musicians too. The new additional space is great.
Amanda Long
The new layout/design is amazing! A cozy vintage feel with delicious local/regional beers make for a fun time.
John Mcquithy
Recently attended Vetiver/Fruitbats revue. Very friendly, hard working staff. The crowd was the best behaved group of over 125 people i have ever encountered. Will definitely be back. Good selection of brews.
Marc Ebtinger
Good coffee, good beer, good music. The small concerts are KID FRIENDLY ! Yay ! I love to go back in time and browse through the old vinyl albums. We need more of such places.
Lex Klosinski
One of my favorite places in Indy. I was accepted into the music scene here by attending the monthly open mic. Staff is wonderful, coffee is wonderful, atmosphere is wonderful, vinyl is wonderful, events are wonderful....did I mention I love this place?
Quinn Lark
I love coming here for a delicious coffee and some contemplation. They also have excellent live music, and the staff is super friendly. I highly recommend this place both as a chill hangout by yourself and a good date spot.
Brandon Arbuckle
Best coffee and vibe in Fountain Square! Awesome record selection, and can basically get you anything they don't have already.
Michael Dowden
I absolutely love the all ages music events. I drive nearly an hour across town to bring my kids here. There are so few places that combine kids and good live music. Square Cat is a local treasure.
Cole Wilgus
this place is the bomb, the staff are always amazing no one pressures you to do anything or order anything they just let you look around which is relaxing. Amazing selection of records for how small the store appears initially, not small at all, just organized perfectly!!! Best record selection in town.
Samantha Drinkwine
Awesome venue with an ever changing variety of musical goodies on the weekends.... but honestly I decided to write a review because they have the softest, quadruple ply toilet paper and I felt like that was major attention to detail and my bum feels like royalty.
Amanda DeVary
Square Cat is not just a record store, it’s a community spot to meet your neighbors for a drink or catch an unexpected show. I am thankful for their dedication to bringing a variety of entertainment to the neighborhood! Stand up, drag shows, album releases, all types of live music and the people themselves — so much to love about Square Cat!
Heather Hirlinger
Coastal Club live with two other bands. Great shop. Great show!
Autumn Storm
Great location and beautiful set up. The honey almond latte was ok. Still haven't gotten back with me on whether or not they are purchasing vinyls yet...
Andrew
Good selection and located in a big up and coming area. Will have to come back again when I'm not in as much of a rush.
i _aint_afraid_of_no_goats
Really cool music store. My daughter and I enjoy browsing the album selection. Love music. Friendly staff. The background music they play always seems universally appropriate which is noticed by me.
Josh Branfield
Great store! Nice selection, well curated, and friendly staff. I stopped in with a friend and her 8 year old girls. The guy working taught the girls a little about records while I browsed. They loved it!
Paul C
I was really impressed with this place. The record selection is perfectly sized to walk around with a coffee or drink in hand. The vibe is really cool, and it’s a great place to stop into if you’re in the area.
Steve Wessel
Enjoy shopping for Vinyl records while having a good beverage.
Jill Martin
Great music variety, such a cool place with great coffee!
Sarah Easter
Good vibes and variety of albums!
Austin Baker
A fairly average record store with a fairly average coffe/bar in the background. However, the employess and owner are great to talk to, along with occasional live musical performances that have great variety in an intimate space.
Tom Hedrick
Huge selection of new and used lps.
N Parrish
It was record store day on the day I visited this store. We saw a awesome band called Dope Sweater!!!!! The atmosphere was great we drank wi e and beer, had a macaroni with bbq chicken. Its was a great experience.
Kristen Luckett
GREAT selection of vintage and reissued vinyl! Great coffee bar, too...looking forward to checking out their live music sometime soon as well.
Shyraptor J
This shop is adorable! I especially liked the local artists section, where you can pretty much find anything you ever wanted from your favorite Indy bands!
Daniel Riley
I love the fact that Square Cat Vinyl shares my same passion for music, and people that love music.
I restore antique record cabinets and record player cabinets. By converting them into Bars and Wine Cabinets is such a great way to expose the beauty of the wood. And upcycling these pieces to be very useful & look Great.
After talking with Patrick at squarecatvinyl he immediately said the wine cabinets and bars would be a great fit for the people that come into the store and the people in the Fountain Square area.
Danny Jorgenson
Bar tenders are always great and the live music is usually pretty good. I don't know a lot about the vinyl store side of things but it seems to have a solid selection
Connor H
Love this place and it's staff. Always friendly, always happy to help. Great selection of records and curbside pickup was easy and fast. Support local record shops!
Ben Phelps
Great coffee. Nice small small stage for interesting live music. I like records, but down own a player... so not much to say about records
Robert C
I went in the daytime and the atmosphere was relaxing, coffee was good, plenty of places to plug in. No food really but it has character and you can chill comfortably.
Sean Guitar
Good coffee, interesting vinyl selection, good service. I went for a band's gig (the Inventors), and the intimate environment provided one of the best experiences I've had at a show
Cassy Farrar
sweet and welcoming staff. I can always count on finding at least one vinyl from my favorite bands here, top notch selection!
Graham Koch
Great spot to chill for a cup of coffee or a beer any time. For late night music this is the spot if you want to relax and enjoys some local tunes.

Be Here Now DIY Music Venue & Craft Brew Bar
Low key, clean, well-organized, yet welcoming and friendly Square Cat Vinyl is a Fountain Square staple not just for slinging records, coffee, and brews, but consistently hosting in-store performances and generally being a great ward in the community. Always a center of activity in the area, stop in to socialize and browse their solid collection of new and used vinyl while enjoying a local beer or quality coffee, or just smooze with their friendly staff and let them point you in the right direction locally! Viva el Vinilo Cuadrado de Gato!!
Dave Smith (Potatodave21)
One of the best vinyl selections in Indy. Had everything I want plus great random vinyl selections. If you need samples, this is a great place to visit.

Cool place with a neat vibe. Priced reasonably. The acoustics are a bit loud sometimes. I wish they served snacks or food of some sort.
Natalie Combs
Beautiful chill space for listening to records, sipping rose chai lattes, doing homework, or watching local live music : )
Duane Kegeris
I've been here 3 times. The live music is great. Small but a great place to listen to music & have a few cold beers.
Zeph Vaughn
Cool space. My only complaint would be that I wish there was more selection with newer artists, as I've had some trouble locating a few bands there. Still my go to place for vinyl shopping.
Andrew Hurm

Is it a record store that sells coffee, or a beer and wine bar that sells vinyl?
It's both and a good place to listen to music.

Taylor Williams
Great live music in an intimate setting. Also good beer selection, perfect spot for a unique low key night.
