This is a really nice little venue for record enthusiasts
I talked to some of the people that work there and they said it was a busy as ever been since the pre pandemic
They have all the contemporary on the very inside
And they have all sorts of very specific items that come in even daily
Video and some pictures for you!

Always a great time here. I attended the recent Lana Del Rey listening party and pre-ordered my album at the event. Had a great time with free drinks and amazing staff. There are also a ton of cool signed items to browse through. With such reasonable prices and amazing selection, I’ll definitely be attending more listening events and if I ever need a physical album, this is the place I’ll go!!

As a beginner vinyl and CD collector, this is definitely one of the most amazing stores to buy and collect vinyl and CD. They have a very wide selection and even had the indie bands that I listen to! They also sell cassettes but that selection is a bit smaller. The staff is nice and they do have a directory so you can ask them if they have something that you’re looking for. The prices are a little bit overpriced for some items and just the right price for others. They also sell posters, vinyl players and small photos for bands. Lastly, they also have a clearance/discounted section for both CD and vinyl which was awesome!

Awesome Record Store, did my 3rd RSD this year , plenty of vinyl selections and good prices

Many places sell music, but what the Cactus music family does is a lot more than that - they serve as a cultural hub giving place to a community (something near and dear to my heart as a collector). Sure you can find music and music-related collectibles, but they go so much deeper by hosting in-store performances, signings, and events that give music lovers from all across this giant city a reason to make the trek and be part of a community. Reminds me of all the reasons I got into collecting music, and I can't say thanks enough! Much love!

You’ll find lots of cool stuff you can’t find anywhere else near by. I did most of my Christmas shopping here. From awesome CDs, vinyls, to t-shirts and stickers and they host different events too. I got to meet Prince Royce. This place is awesome.
Sean
Super cool place with that old school record shop vibe! I loved taking my daughter to her first record store to look for records she'd like. Felt like when I was young doing the same thing with my dad. I'm so glad that places like Cactus Music still exist!
kotetamer
Great selection of music, great pricing, and friendly staff. The one person who helped me out, Misa, was able to help me find the right album as a gift and was a godsend. Will definitely come back and I recommend very highly.
Antonio Helm
A year ago this would been 5 stars I come here frequently. I am thrilled to report that it has A/C again! A stalwart in music for HTX . Staff attitude has improved with A/C. I am hopeful that in stores will return to cactus
Kaley Baker
Huge record store. Came in on a Saturday evening and the place was packed. Very loud and rather uncomfortable. Perhaps it could be attributed to the busy environment but I blew $70 on two records I almost instantly regretted buying (cant blame the store entirely though). Lady at the counter was very kind. Unfortunately this record shop left a bad taste on my tongue. Hope to give them another try in the future, but until then my review stands.

A Houston staple for a reason: this place has a vast selection to meet any of your music needs. Not only that, but if they don’t have what you’re wanting, they’ll go and get it for you so you can stay supporting your local businesses. The staff is incredibly helpful and friendly and the dogs they keep in the back are even friendlier. A must visit when you come to Houston.
Derek Binsted
A lot of new vinyl
The selection of pre owned vinyl is ok but certainly not good quality and high prices
For me certainly better places for better vinyl especially pre owned
VILLIAN
Amazing place for records, i admit the prices are a little overdo but you won't find the stuff here, in any other physical place!!
Nicolas Baume
Good record store. Found some quite rare Soul LP's at a reasonable price. But too many new pressings. No used Hip Hop section 🫥 …
Mariana Villanueva
Great spot with large music selection in various formats. The first time I visited Cactus, P.O.D. was playing an acoustic set, and every visit since has had the same fun energy.
Stefani T
Great selection of new, used and collectible vinyls, CDs and cassettes, posters, books and knick knacks! Staff is always friendly and helpful. Cactus music is my go-to record store in Houston! They will forever have my business <3
Augustine Sanchez
This is the quintessential music place in Houston! It’s your stop for vinyl, record players, cds, shirts by your favorite band, enamel pins, quirky funny gifts for those you care about. The staff is the best in all of Houston, very knowledgeable and friendly! They offer live music performances on weekends and have St Arnold beer for you to enjoy the sounds whilst you shop. Best. Record. Store. Ever. Should be labeled as a landmark in Houston! I’ve been coming here for years and will continue to go for years to come. And I have introduced this place to my younger family members and multiple friends to keep this place alive and popping!
Sydney B
This store feels like a time capsule! There are multiple autographed posters and other memorabilia such as Bootsy Collins' gold record! There is something about physically touching music that is comfortably reassuring in our virtual age. There are many nostalgic and novelty gifts from Fraggle Rock enamel pins to profanity-laced socks to an inflatable mounted moose head. The young lady (unfortunately I have forgotten her name but not her neat blue hair?) behind the counter was genuinely welcoming and knowledgeable. I plan to visit again to get that Linkin Park button and perhaps a pair of cursing- cat socks!
luis rodriguez
Staff is always friendly and willing to help you out to the best of their ability. They have a variety genres for CDs and vinyl, new and used. I’ve bought many used vinyl and never had quality issues, plus good pricing too. Also can’t forget about all the music/artist related merchandise and posters. Best place to shop music related stuff in Houston!
Doria Rosa
Maybe the largest record store in Houston and across the street from one of the coolest eldest music stores, Rockin Robin. I've been to many live record release performances parties here. It's not the only game in town but certainly one of the most well trod.
lanithia lopez
This place was AMAZING I was with my kid and we love Aaliyah so we came here to see if they have cd from here so yes we did and it was a good Deal! And not very pricey and I had good customer service.
Joy D
Great selection of new and used vinyl. Friendly and helpful staff. They host a fun Record Store day and have cute events like Halloween costume contests for kids. They host live music events and have signed copies pretty regularly.
K M
Awesome record store in HTX - always has great stock and the staff is super friendly. Visit every time I am in town visiting family and am always able to find something I haven't been able to find at my own local record store.
Dario Chavez
I recently stopped by Cactus Music for the first time and mostly found what I was looking for. There was a decent variety of music and novelties. My only complaint is that the particular day I visited they seemed to be a little low on inventory. Nevertheless, I'll be back again.
Josie A
I found it a little pricey, but they have a large variety of items to look at. Everyone was nice. Watch your step walking around the different areas.
John Folwell
Like taking a time machine back to the 70. Classic records and memorabilia. Texas music their specialty. On my last visit I enjoyed some local music talent.
andreajasyl
An indie/alternative teen’s dream. There’s lots of artists and bands I had not expected to see yet they had. Also the pricing is reasonable
Michael Chase
I've been to Cactus Music many times since they opened, and was a customer for decades at the older store before it closed. Always an excellent selection of hard-to-find new and used vinyl, CDs, cool toys, and some music-related DVDs and books. Very knowledgeable salespeople, cool atmosphere which is reminiscent of the other store, and if they don't have something you want, they'll order it for you. Oh, yes, and the in-store performances are great! A+++!!!
Giovanna Chung
Love coming here for vinyl, stickers, socks, and all the cute merch. Nothing but great experiences here
Peter Lee
Awesome record store. Great selection cds, vinyl, new used. Plus cool / quirky music related gifts and accessories
Monkey Hero
Excellent record store. My records I have bought have been VG+ or NM quality. If I'm buying local, I go hear first.
Redscroll Records
Great store that is willing to go above and beyond for customers. A+
Travis Rodgers
My only regret is it took me 2 years to find this place. Outstanding vinyl, print and novelty selection.
maddy cooper
have been going to cactus for a year now and they are one of my favorite places to go in houston! i just moved way closer to central houston so im really excited to start coming in more regularly :) such a great selection of vinyl and i was able to get a signed waterparks cd from here last year!! so thankful barnes and noble is not my only option anymore
MachineGun DAV (GodRocket1)
Nice place to buy records. Wish it was closer I'd go there more often. The people there are pretty nice but I don't go to a store for the people. The prices of records have got really expensive, so has most things though. Cheaper prices at other places but you gotta shop around.
Amanda Collazo
What a great place. Doesn’t matter if you’re into the local hip hop scene, classic rock, soul, jazz, classical-literally whatever. They have all genres and loads of vinyls to choose from. It was hot when I took my teenager, but they’re working on it. This is Htown at its finest.
Craig Gause
A large collection of all things music, with meticulous organization. New releases were pricey, but they had good deals on used vinyl. Had lots of fun perusing through their $1 LP section. Took home some fun stuff! Would recommend.
Sesho Maru
This place is straight out of the 1990s, so I love it! They have lots of vinyl, used and new, from all styles of music. Same goes for compact discs. And they're always having a sale. They also carry music related merch. When you visit, have some time to spare because there's no telling what treasures you might find in a corner of the store nobody's looked in.
Angel Martinez
This record store is one of my favorite places in Houston! Great friendly staff and an always great selection! Can’t wait to come by tomorrow!
Check the Fish Box
This place is awesome!!!!!! I never have enough time to look, that's the only thing that sucks. I'm not a music nerd but it makes you want to be just walking in there, haha. I come to look for cassettes and 8-tracks for my van, they always have some cool cassettes and also have newer artists on cassette, too. They also had some 8-tracks. There was one that stars the Beatles there but I didn't really care about the Beatles I cannot lie. I got some other ones though and everyone was helpful. There are two parts of the store which I didn't realize for the first four visits so go to the back left and there are a lot more records
Freddy Arenas
They got the Taylor album signed and they were really nice and organized with the fans that showed up, I had to work that morning and Violet was nice to hold one for me. I will for sure come back often. Thanks for everything guys!!
John Wingfield
Dig into the stacks here and you will be amazed at the nuggets you find.
Matt VanHaaften
Extremely good selection of new and used records as well as other music related stuff like posters and shirts, etc. Customer service is top notch. Whenever I'm in Houston I'll be sure to stop by again.
Pete Torres
Loved it best vinyl store I’ve been to!!!
Michael Clifton
Great place to shop all types of music. I was very happy to find 2 country vinyls I wanted but when I got it home, it skips like crazy, very disappointing!
Mariel Bouffier
Amazing selection of records, place has great vibes! Is also Pet friendly!
Annie Ortiz
Took my daughter here and she can shop for hours 😂
Great selection …
Leo Gudino
Some items are priced higher than you'd find online, especially used records, but nothing beats browsing and finding that perfect one in person.
J Shirley
What a great place to get new and used records along with CDs and cassette tapes. Enjoyed flipping through their vast music inventory, which satisfies all generations. Best place in Houston!
Glenn Porter
This place is great! Such a huge selection of new records. I've bought more than 10 over time and every one of them played great. There are local bands and some more obscure picks as well as new top hits. This place has everything you want. Every time I go I find music I didn't even know I could get on a record. Can't wait to go back.
J T
Huge, and I mean HUGE, selection of vinyl, new and used. Staffed by some of the most professional and nicest staff. They were just an absolute pleasure to interact with. I found quite a few vinyl albums I’d been searching for for some time. Will definitely be back.
Bill Holden
Awesome collection of records and memorabilia. Great staff that is friendly and helpful. A significant contributor to the culture of Houston!
Cassiopeia Drake
Looked through the new arrivals section and found a vaporwave vinyl (HK by HKE) which cements Cactus Music as a great place for vinyl
Thomas Cdjr
Love Cactus Music! Great selection... every visit here I find vinyl I have to have and at a price that cannot be beat. The employee have always been friendly but allow you to look until you ask for assistance. Very enjoyable experience each visit.
Anthony Bales
Local record shops may be a bit of an anachronism in the world of streaming music, but Cactus Music is still standing and feels like home. There's nothing like sifting through the racks of records and CDs to bring back those old feelings. They always play great music and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Don't forget to shop local!
Joseph Melugin
One of the best record shops in the U.S. — a Houston institution.
K V
There is a great selection of music and swag here - the only reason for a 3 star review, which I think is rather generous for this place. It's good to see they have a decent metal section now.
BUT!
As far as customer service, you guys need to at least be consistent. If you're going to be rude, sniveling, and unfriendly to shoppers, please do so equally, and don't select customers who don't fit whatever demographic or type you guys are looking to attract. I've spent a lot of cash at your store, and my money is just as good as any trendy hipster that walks in looking for indie stuff. Next time, I'm going back to Vinal Edge, where they are at least consistent with how they treat customers and have a better selection of what I want anyway.
V. Johnson
Really good variety of music in-house. Really dig it
April Garcia
It’s an ok record store that does the trick when you have the itch to dig for records. Their new release and reissue section is better than the used/original pressing side. I will say that it’s not the most inviting atmosphere. I only go here because Houston doesn’t have many good record stores to choose from.
Kayla
Quintessential Houston store- They have events here which is super cool. Would be back again just to check it out. The atmosphere is busy but cozy.
James Koski
Great local record store. Been around for years. New and used vinyl and CDs. In store performances at times.
Terrance Eaglin
Came in there for vinyls, and found more. They memorabilia as well as music. Nice staff, very helpful.
Aaron Smith
Best record store in the H if you love music what are you waiting for
j f
Cool vinyl store for Houston. RIP soundwaves
Freddie B
A really cool store, especially for record lovers. There's a station inside for sanitizing your hands as you come in and out, plastic dividers at checkout and masks required in the store. I spent a good hour and a half trawling through the stacks and found some gems, both new and used. They even gave me some coupons on the way out. Can't wait to come back!
conceited
The staff was super friendly and helpful! The store has a wide variety of cd's and vinyl's. Definitely one of the best record store I've visited in Houston.
Sabra Shay
Traveling from out of town and I thought I'd check out some of Houston's vinyl stores.
Cactus Music goes beyond vinyl (they also have CDs and tapes) - so it lacks what I consider to be a classic vinyl store ambiance. Despite this, they have a decent selection of new and pre-loved vinyl - though it's not as extensive as a different local store I visited.
Prices were a little higher than I'm used to back home - but it could just be because I picked up a couple of albums I've had a hard time finding. (**Note: I DID find several albums I haven't been able to find back home - so their selection IS good.)
Organization isn't as intuitive as other stores I've been to - but I figured it out.
In short - I'd come here if the other Houston store I visited didn't have what I wanted.
Rov O
Good selection of music and prices are reasonable.
Derick Vargas
This is hands down the best record store in Houston. Went for the first time yesterday 7-3-20 with my daughter. The selection is amazing from dollar records to 35% off new bins to the racks upon racks of new and pre owned vinyl. The organization is great at this store making it simple to find what you need. I honestly had to leave after finding a few items or I'd spend hours looking and buying.
Michael Yost
Their record collection is awesome of used records in good shape and the prices are on point. The employees are friendly. I'm there almost every Saturday now and find something every time. My main interest is 60's music like Cream, Yardbirds, Byrds, C, S, N, Y and they always have them, Just wish they had more Faces but I guess it just depends on what people bring in.
Beth Fridrick
Excellent gem of a record store. Houston is lucky to have this treasure.
Christopher Jenkins
Great shop. Service was nice, helpful and almost seemed invisible but suprisingly just around the corner if you had any questions. Definitely a boisterous group.. nice to hear happy employees. Amazing selection and even found a friend of mines LP in the "local" section. Nice metal section along with punk and all the other genres you can imagine. From new releases, limited color, exclusive, soundtrack, VGM, used, modern to classic and all the in between accessories/hardware you never thought you needed. You may stay there for hours.
Seán Patrick Judge
I got some really good deals on old used but in great condition records. But man oh man could they use a better air conditioner in there!
Carolina Stevens
Love this record store it is the most massive store I have ever seen i have found the hardest to find records here and my all time favs here
Michael Vachmiel
My goto place for Music for 30 plus years!
Andy Nunez
Been buying from this place online for some time now. It was great to stop by H Town and visit for the store in-person! The store has a welcoming feel and all the employees are super helpful to aid on anything you’re looking for! Glad I got time to stop on by! If you’re around town give them a go!
Nancy Ghisalbert
Christmas shopping for a special teenager. She received a record player several years ago. I go to Cactus Music because of their large selection of records, great prices and bonus is introducing my granddaughter to a variety of music. Need help or questions, the staff is always available to answer and give suggestions on artists. Love the atmosphere there as well. Great customer service.
Michael Loomis III
One of my favorite local spots to crate dig for nearly 30 years. It's mostly for used album's to fill in the holes in my collection. Staff is usually pretty helpful/friendly and parking is super easy. They carry a nice assortment of toys and other interesting goods. Always very highly recommended!!
Justin Jones
Cool place! Music shops have been needing to focus heavily on audiophiles and enthusiasts, and they have everything that would draw one in! They've got everything from new releases, in just about any format you can hope for (seriously), high-end collector-quality box sets of vinyl. You can go in and find something super rare, or you can spend just a few bucks and leave with some of the hidden gems that are buried among the $0.97 records
Klouver
This place great I enjoyed the music and vinyl records but one thing I didn't like was the Penguin staring at me. He had the nerves to stare as we look through the Records and so I stared back at him and we had staring contest and of course I lost but man.. that penguin was sure Cute though. But still had the nerves to stare as I look back at him knowing we will one day meet again for round 2
Shay
A chill little local record store. They have a real nice variety of cds, vinyls, and even collectibles!! I do reccomend more of a selection for ska music though, personal tidbit!!! I always make sure to stop by here when I'm in the Houston area. Good vibes here.
Rodney Bell
If you are still I to the vintage way to listen to music this Is one of the best places to go in Houston to get your tapes records and CDs.
Rolando Rodriguez
The Best Record Store/Music Store/Discovery of Cool Things Store you will ever step in. Staff has always been cool and helpful when looking for stuff. They are a big supporter of the indie music scene and have many free in-store shows. Also, they give away many concert tickets if you follow them on Instagram and Facebook!
Juan Beltran
Beautiful looking place. Even with a stage for a once in a while shows. But due to the covid situation, so far nothing.
Fair prices on items like books, shirts, cds, vinyl, DVDs, action figures, etc, etc.
Friendly staff who are always having fun & always smiling.
I'm always satisfied with my purchases.
Amanda G
Cactus music has always been my go-to place for music! They are extremely helpful, and respond to inquiries and requests in a timely manner. They are efficient, know how to protect the record when mailing, and have the lowest shipping rates around! I've lived in other states and been to other record stores, and this one remains my favorite record store for over 30 years now.
Charlotte Reine
Besides the fact that they are way cross town. I spent way too much time there. There are so many different styles of music it took me 3 hours to browse through it. But it paid off. I hot exactly what I was looking for. I called ahead for one cd and spent the rest of the time looking for a second one. Yay! They had one. If I didn't have to get home I would probably still be there. LOL! At least I can say I can maneuver through freeway traffic. A little scary but I did it. I was on and off in about 15 minutes. Thanks Cactus music. Loved it.
Nicolas Buthay
It's a nice store, huge inventory.
I've been there many times, but I rarely purchase anything. On the used section, you see really cheap vinyls, I normally search through the bins hoping to find a good deal but I hardly ever know any of the artists, and many times you don't even know what genre these LPs are (some other sections have genre labels, not all).
On the new vinyl area, prices are much higher than what you can find online, shipped to your door.
I understand the value of the brick and mortar experience, but overcharging $30 on a vinyl seems too much. Anyway, you can spend a good time visiting the store.
Byron Espinoza
Staple of Houston! Great selection of records and CDs.
David John
As always great place to shop, lots of new and used vinyl and CDs, extremely friendly and knowledgeable staff.
Paul Olsen
Good local record store near River Oaks/Kirby with a wide selection of genres. They have both new and used vinyl, plus CDs, t-shirts, etc. I have found some good, hard-to-find records here. Definitely a place worth checking out. Also, kudos to the staff for providing hand sanitizer and requiring masks. As a healthcare worker, I greatly appreciate that.
Karina Reyes
As a Swiftie I’ve had nothing but great experiences with Cactus.
Robin “Liz” Wittrock
This place is an awesome, local gem, that has something to offer for everyone. Great deal on used stuff, and they also stock all the new releases I want. KILLER vinyl collection, and also, really fun accessories (this is where I buy most of my Christmas/birthday gifts). Super knowledgable, and helpful staff.
lar
Kind staff, always has some good gems and sales.
John R
A great record store that has been in operation for decades that has it all, new and previously loved vinyl, CDs and movies lots of cool T shirts, novelty and collectable items even stereo equipment. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly...highly recommend this place.
Christian
Every visit is pure pleasure, things can be difficult to find but only because there is so much great music there!!! Absolutely LOVE this place!!! Went yesterday because Google said they were open till 9. Got there just a bit after 7 to find out they had closed at 7....
Karl Thompson
Awesome store. Significantly more inventory than other shops I've visited in the past of both new and used records.
Rich P
Was an ok experience. Did like that stage for bands. The Album section is separate from the CD area. They did have a great section on compilation albums. Shirts and other swag was good. The CD selection was not categorized very well. It was an all over the place music selection. Spent more time looking/listening and zero time buying.
William Foreman
Cool place with a great selection. Trader Joe’s is nearby so I always stop by to browse for vinyl before my grocery shopping.
Evan C
Very cool record store to check out in Houston. Nice music variety and awesome vinyl collection, too. They regularly have live performances, too. Customer service is so-so. I have never had a bad experience, but nothing stellar either.
Zack Carballo
Great place to get vinyl. The staff is super helpful and the vinyl selection is vast. They also have bands perform on the small stage in the store fairly regularly so keep an eye out for events like that
Float
Amazing record store with a huge selection of both used and new vinyl/CDs/cassettes. They also carry other merch like shirts and posters among other things.
Sajeev Mehta
Cool and funky place but not too far out sp anyone can walk in and feel comfortable. Very good selection of CDs and their bargain section is just as cheap as online vendors. Insanely comprehensive selection of vinyl: all around an awesome place to window shop, although you might wind up buying stuff you never thought you would!
jamari green
Cactus music is a really chill record store with a decent selection. They also have in store events from time to time. The staff is pretty decent also. I definitely try to check this place out every couple of weeks.....not everything is golden, but I've discovered that you can find some true gems!
Doug Wooten
It was a neat experience seeing all the old vinyl records and CD's you can buy.
Frank Lightfoot
My band played there for the Otto records showcase and I have to say I loved the place! Great staff, super friendly and just all around great people...the store was super clean, well stocked and well organized. I will definitely be back.
Judith Arroyo
OMG! What an awesome place and the staff is the bomb!
Masks required. I was not wearing one and I was offered one.
Such a great selection. A game in Montrose.
brian rogers
A Houston Institution. Wonderfully friendly and helpful neighborhood music store. The kind of place you think of when you think of a movie version of a welcoming music store with some really great off-beat stock.
Sarah Brady
I always love coming here. I’m not sure if anyone will understand this. There is a specific smell that comes with vinyl records. Like how library’s smell or coffee shops. This place is the real deal. Their prices are fair and the selection is wonderful.
Trinity Quirk
If it's recorded music, they probably have what you're looking for. Extensive vinyl selection, both new and pre-loved. Good prices. Everybody there is super cool, but not cooler-than-thou, which used to be so common at record stores.
Jeremy Wilson
I saw the Hates play there in 2016. I love the store. They have a great collection of new and used CDs. They have lots of records on LP as well. They have DVDs and t-shirts as well. I got a new Slayer CD from them as well as a used Minor Threat CD. If I had the money I would like to go back to visit them. I buy CDs and tapes. They had St. Arnold's the days I went for a donation. I had one once. I no longer drink. I am clean and sober. They are a family business that accept children, so be polite and respectful. I will be back there this Summer. I love that they have free music shows in the daytime. I have to be in by 10:00 PM. I can't go to shows at night. I live at a halfway house because I had to leave a bad situation. I am still looking for an apartment for myself. Then I can go to shows, except for the fact that I am on the METRO bus. Remember when there was 24 hour 82 buses? That was decades ago. That helped.
J.R. Cohen
I have no idea how many years I've been coming here. Incredible memories made here. Super awesome team. One of the greatest local businesses in Houston.
julesQ jones
Really neat store, great prices, and some great finds in the $1 shelves. Also really enjoyed speaking to the employees, they're knowledgeable and welcoming and help with the stores over all easy going atmosphere. Will definitely be returning soon!
Toby Jason Potts
Great selection and friendly staff.
Melissa Padilla
A wonderful record store with live music on most weekends. Lots of records, CD's and memorabilia available for purchase. The stage is set in the larger section of the store. Family friendly for most events. St Arnold's usually supplies the beer. Parking in front and next door.
false
I love shopping here. The selection rotates regularly, there are live music events, and the music playing is always pointed out (which has influenced my purchases once or twice).
A. Mark Hawkins
My favorite record store for the last decade in Houston. There is always something I find interesting here that I consider unique and unusual in vinyl, compact disc or dvd. This latest score by them is of my favorite genre, progressive rock and it is in vinyl, from mostly Venezuela of all places.
Brian Brady
Excellent store for CD's, vinyl records and all sorts of really cool 'stuff'. Rock, blues, jazz & rap, hip-hop. Great selection.
Rob Mellina
Cool stuff
Very RUDE staff!
Daye Drunkе
If you love crate digging, this place has got it. Wish they had a wider variety when it came to electronic music, but they seemed to have every other genre. If they had drum and bass I would rate 5 stars.
Braden Arnold
I always love going to Cactus and finding great music, new and old. They've got a great selection of both records and CDs and I always leave with something I love
Mustang Artroom
Love this place, the vibe and the record collection! Always find something unique when I am here. I especially love days when the live music is goin on while I shop!
Nicholas Bryant
Super helpful staff, my go to record store for years now. Expect a cool place, cool music, and occasionally cool beer. This place has a huge selection of music, will happily give this place my money.
Ken Levy
First place I ever went to when I moved here from Connecticut where tgere are very few real indie record stores.
Cactus reminds me of a place in Brooklyn called Titus Oaks. Bins and bins of used vinyl for 99 cents plus new releases etc.
I like how they will hold a new release for you. I can spend hours going through their stock. For vinyl in Houston to me it's the only place to go.
Neil Ritter
Awesome record store. Very magical place. Love looking through the 97 cent records. Amazing selection and prices. Everyone was friendly, great music playing. I’ll be back over and over. Thanks guys!
Kaci Peterson
It cool but a lot of the prints and shirts are low quality, blurry images. I think if they’re going to print things that are blurry they should at least be discounted.
Sandra Warren
Completely forgot this place is still around. I had been to two other places looking for an obscure CD. A clerk at the last place I tried suggested Cactus. Wow! Not only are they still in business, they're thriving. Thousands of albums and CDs, old and new. Really cool (that is, tattooed and pierced-like the old days) and friendly employees. They had the CD I couldn't find anywhere else too! Parking is a tad weird when it's busy, and it's located in a postmodern apocalyptic area of Shepherd and I59/69 on the curve there across from Whataburger. It's rare to find a record store anywhere in the world, what with Amazon and all. Give them some love by visiting. It's the last outpost of a dying civilization.

An intriguing CD & vinyl store. Lots of new and used product. Plenty of music memorabilia and accessories. Lots of media accessories as well.
If you are into vinyl you owe it to yourself to check out Cactus Music. Coupons issued for your next visit!
Manuel Cano
they have so many vinyls from different artist and genres, I was already overwhelmed by the amount of records they had on the outer room , until I discovered a whole other room with records only. I was shook: Will definitely be back!
Josh Ryan
Good selection, we left with 4 records and only one was warped. They have a ton of selections. The back room with vinyl records gets kinda hot, so have what you want on mind and get in-get out.
mike sherman (DJ Dogstyle)
Awesome place. Coming back to spend the day crate digging. I would love to come spin some vinyl there one day. #WOOF
Michael Poley
Great selection of records and music related gifts
Jennifer Saint-Surin
Great record store!
kwame anderson
Great selection. Don't skip the markdown bins, a lot of gems there. Staff is knowledgable about pretty much everything, Star Pizza across the street, what more do you need?
Tyler Brooks
This is a Houston establishment that makes our city great. The staff is friendly, and the selection is gigantic. They have records, CDs, some tapes, things like stickers/pins, t shirts, lots of books either based on music, written by musicians or local Texas writers, and plenty of other little novelty gifts. (mugs with the Beatles on them, etc.) However the best part about cactus music is they are always bringing small intimate shows in store for free, where they will also serve you a free beer while you listen. It's always a quality set whether it's a local band or someone from further away. And on very rare occasion some giant touring act will stop through.
JG
Great selection of new & used vinyl...and the resurrection of cassettes lol
Miles Shellshear
This shop has a lot of cool stuff. The vinyl could be significantly better organized compared to many other well organized shops, but the staff are as helpful as possible and the amount of records is certainly sizeable.
Christyn Hurbest
This was a neat place and wish I could have browsed a little more. I miss all the record stores that have shut down over the years. I just wished that the had everything by genre, it was everything together but alphabetically.
Dylan Battard
In a time when most independent music stores can't keep their doors open against digital downloads Cactus proves why we still need them.
There's always something going on from listening parties to the myriad of in-store performances, the majority of which are completely free. Also free beer and an entire second store dedicated to just vinyl.
A true landmark that's worthy of your time and money,
Michael Foster
Cactus records sells CDs records t-shirts and other music related memorabilia the staff is very well-informed in music. They also sell turntables and parts for turntables posters various nick-nacks it is not uncommon for them to feature local and national recording artist in the store.
Hope Mielke
Huge selection and has a cool atmosphere. My only complaint would be that it's kinda a sketch area but I only cared because I ha dnt little sister with me. Really cool shop and I hope to come back!
J Gutierrez
Great selection of records, I've shopped there for many years, helpful staff, they follow all Covid protocals feel safe as you shop.
Craig Flint
Great place to find what your ears need... and then some. Records, CDs, tapes (yep), shirts, stickers, pins, and more all in one place. The selection is varied and vast. Plus, they have live music and beer regularly soooo... go here and support your local record shop.
Marcela Lozano
Been coming here for a long time. Love their selection, and their live music! Where else can you see intimate performances by both up-and-coming artists and big-name artists alike AND enjoy some free St. Arnolds?
Olga Garcia
I went of a local tour of Houston with the local king of #SLGT. This was one of his most treasured local places. I love music but haven't ever sought out a venue to buy music. After going to Cactus Music, that changed. This is a place where everyone that works there is involved in music to some capacity, whether they are musicians, promoters, collectors or on the industry side. They gave me a full tour of everything that their place has to offer and even asked me what I found interesting and had great suggestions for me. Plus they have monthly sessions with local bands performing. It's like having a musical experience all in one place.
maucool999
Good, clean place. Have pre-ordered some vinyls from here before and they have excellent customer service. Crew is friendly and responsive. Have had a good response to the covid 19 pandemic
Bob Simpson
I come here to shop every weekend. In a city with other record stores to choose from, this is my pick. Live music, free beer, great selection and a friendly staff. LOVE this store!
Luke Lawrence
Super cool record store with live music and a wide selection. Only downside is there seems to be a limited number of dance vinyl (house, disco, funk, garage, etc...). But, not much else to complain about.
Tracy Russell
Best place in Houston for CDs (new and used) and vinyl plus music themed games, clothes etc. And the best part is they feature concerts LIVE with free St. Arnold's beer. If you are visiting or new to Houston don't miss this place!
hipperson713
Love performances, free brew, a vinyl collection not much can compete. This store is just part of a whole that makes Houston the best city in the world.
Monika Montgomery
This spot is always great for good tunes. My boyfriend and I play a game every time we come in and pick a random 99 cent record for each other and it just adds a fun touch to a place we both enjoy.
Cristina Herrera
Endless selection of music on many forms of media, listening stations, a stage that frequently hosts live music, cool people working there who obviously truly love music, chill vibe, and awesome displays including a framed pic signed by Jim Morrison himself. Relaxing time to be had, always.
ebby aych
I buy CD's and Vinyl here as often as I can get to that side of town. I love this place and the selection of music. The events are nice and I can never say no to some Saint Arnold's.
Letisha Witt
I love this place. You can get any picker poet C D or even albums in there. They are a great place to see some old hippie stuff also. It's just a great break in routine!
Alyssa Stryder
A Houston staple! They've got all the local music you could want at great prices, an awesome selection of new and used LP's, the cd's are all $3 each!! Live free music with free beer, all sorts of events, all sorts of kitschy gifts. I love Cactus!
You Genious
Great record store. Sometimes I wish they had the music organized in genres. I don't always feel like spending an hour digging and trying to find new music
Caitlyn
Great selection of vinyl! One of my favorite spots in Houston. There are always artists playing here - great to see this place keeping the scene alive.
Keystone
Cactus Music is a great record shop managed by great people. They are welcoming and treat every customer with kindness and respect.
Lovell Lloyd
Excellent selection of music
Bob Weber
The whole team there at Cactus has remained markedly cool and controlled during the pandemic. It's the power of music. I know that they are itching to reopen 100%. Hopefully it is only a few more months.
Bill “Tre” Pauly
Great place for CD's and Vinyl (stocked well with new and used). Staff is helpful. Live bands scheduled regularly, with Beer! Try and beat that shopping experience!
Samone Rieberger
Like walking into my high school circa 1988. Poster selection, albums, CD's, buttons..everything for nostalgia and fun! I have great music posters from here. What an awesome vibe here!
Marissa Cabrales
Have wanted to visit this place for years. Finally went and fell in love with the selection of everything, not just music. They have memorabilia, collectables, gifts, art, rarities and more. I've yet to see any performances there but look forward to. The staff is helpful too!
Carlos A Dominguez
An old Houston tradition and authority in the music industry. Keeping faithful to the original "music store" theme. Live performances, meet and greet and other events for music lovers. Come find your next favorite album here.
J. Antonio Reyes
Very nice collection of music, prices are a little high but it’s understandable as some records they have in stock are in good condition. All in all.. would go back.
Bob Franco
Offers a wide variety of digital and vinyl music of a wide variety. Includes a selection of used reduced price CDs for $3. Difficult to leave without finding something you'll like. Bonus: live music often from known bands.
Michael Herrera
If you are a fan of music in any way then Cactus Music is the place to be! You can find everything from new releases, to the hard to find hits, and even the bands that very few people have heard of. The only down fall I would say they have is the pricing. The average price of an album is around 15. Now keep in mind that is an AVERAGE and should not be taken at face value. It is very easy to spend 50 or more by the time you walk out of there.
BTW they have an in store performance almost every week, and more often than not they will have Saint Arnold's there to help keep you hydrated for said performances!
Carla K
Great selection of vinyl
secret base
Awesome music store that sale cd's,vinyl records new and used, lots of rare gems in there musically, and lots of other cool collectibles.they also have special events for music related releases with free beer...yes free beer.

Alwiz Puken
Cactus Music has it all! Record Store Day deals and a great selection of new vinyl. You can also pick up a Megadeth action figure here.
Sara Hull
Everything you want out of a record store. New vinyl, mystery bins of used vinyl, Greatfull Dead T-shirts and stickers.
Carlos M
A lot of good vinyl❤
Terry Mears
More Vinyl stores like this are needed. Parking is limited, fyi.
Oscar Escobar
A cool music shop that we stumbled on. It had a great vibe with someone playing records and changing the music often. Going back for sure.
Alex Zambra
Amazing record store just like it used to be when I was in my thirties and forties. The only drawback is that the lighting inside the store is going to dim and sometimes it's hard to see the titles of the albums.
Gael
Cactus Records, unique unto itself, is a rambling site specializing in vinyl. BUT, along the way of its decades-old existence, it has become a place to browse for old concert posters, tee-shirt, socks, books and much more novelty and vintage music merchandise. When it's not hosting live music events, book signings or other promotional events, Cactus Records is a quiet place with more there than can be noticed in one visit. Bonus: it's also a UPS drop-off location.
Cindy Deister
Cactus Music is an amazing music and vinyl Mecca that will bring back a million memories for anyone who lived the songs housed there — and help newbies get the roots of what they think is innovative today. GO there, listen and fall in love with America and music and memories, and pick up a turntable while you’re at it. Or a few CDs... or tapes... or socks.... IT’S WORTH IT!!!
Jason Anderson
Cool place, nice vibe. Excellent selection, they make everyone put on hand sanitizer so that's def a plus.
Christopher Bubel
Great neighborhood record store
Alexis Salinas

Reid Pitts
A very cool store with a very wide selection of cds and vinyls, as well as socks, turn table mats, etc. More expensive than other stores in Houston; average price range ~$21-$35
Carrie Spellious
What's not to love about an old record store it's been around Houston for ages. They were pretty good selection and even have some live shows for local bands.
100fires
Cactus has alot records for great prices. They have a big selection of $1 records and you can definitely find some gems in that section. They have a record player so that you can listen to your records before you take them home. Very good spot to crate digg.
Jess Rushton
One of my favorite little quirky places. My fiancé can comb through the thousands of vinyls for hours, I’m just in it for the funky socks 😆 …
Thomas Dalton
Knowledgeable staff. Great selection of LPs, 7" 45s, CDs and various collectibles.
Tony Fredrick
Reminds me of the old Dearborn Music (Michigan) layout. I would like to see a bigger tape collection but CDs, vinyl and misc memorabilia are on point
Zarek
Great selection, prime spot. But I wish the staff was a bit more engaging. I went in there once when it was slow and it felt like a ghost town
Terry Davenport

Andreu Garcia
Such a wonderful store I wish we had it in SA! Spent there 2+ hours and could have been a lot more if we had not been running late for a dinner with friends!

Good vibes lots of things I've never heard of. The music playing on the speakers was one I knew played on a turn table.
emmanuel obot
If your like me and you enjoy pretending to be J Dilla or Kanye, flipping old soul samples into new instrumentals, then Cactus' 1 dollar record crate is a dream. Why pay more for something you just might not use? Also this place usually has live performances, which I occasionally attend because why not? I always seem to find what I''m looking for here.
Jacob Del Valle
Nothing but great vibes from this place. Where I got most of my vinyl from. The environment is chill. Great place for crate digging. Huge selection of vinyl.
