Reviews of Cremona Violin Hawaii

This is without a doubt the best violin shop in all of Hawaii. Michael is a consummate professional who is honest, knowledgeable, and exceptionally kind.
The sad hidden truth that not many people know is that many violin shops all over the world strike “under-the-table” deals with local violin teachers, who promise to send their students to those shops to purchase overpriced instruments, and in return the teachers secretly receive a cut of the sale. All along, the students and their parents have no idea what exactly they’re paying for because, after all, the teacher was the one who referred them to the shop.
But good news for you—Michael is one of the rare few who refuse to partake in this shady business. He will never push you into a sale, nor will he take advantage of any customer’s ignorance. Michael is too passionate and respectful of the instrument to be in it merely for profiteering at the expense of ethics.
If you are looking for a violin, bow, repair, or general advice, Cremona Violin Hawaii is the place to go—whether you are a total beginner or a professional violinist. If you are a local, do yourself a favor and don’t bother looking anywhere else. I promise you that you won’t find anyone more kind-hearted and genuinely helpful than Michael. I sincerely wish the best for this business because the world needs more violin shops like this one.

Amazing experience! It was magical… Michael is very kind and gives the space to try out the violins to find which one chooses you. A spiritual and excellent experience - and I found the most beautiful sounding violin I’ve ever played! Definitely recommend.

As a member of the Philadelphia Orchestra and in my own travel around the globe I have come across many violin shops and makers. I can say without hesitation that Cremona Violin Hawaii should be a top destination for string players, whether in need of an instrument or repair. Michael Wong maintains all instruments in top condition with obvious care and attention to details. He carries a wide selection of excellent instruments reasonably priced and is an extremely kind and attentive individual. I very highly recommend for every string player to stop by Cremona Violin Hawaii to try instruments and consider purchasing your next string instrument there.

Overall fantastic shop. The owner is extremely nice and energetic.
I started going to this shop since August of 2020, where I upgraded my violin and bow there. The owner, Michael, helped me choose a violin and strings that would benefit me learning as a violinist, and ones that will encourage me to practice more and more. The shop is small but it contains everything that you will ever need for string instruments. I strongly encourage you to visit no matter if you’re a beginner, intermediate student, or some high level advanced soloists!

This violin shop is one of the best I've ever been to. The store manager Michael Wong is very nice and helpful. I have visited the shop a few times since it opened and I am always amazed by the quality of their instruments. All the violins and bows that I tried are made with great quality and have good sound. I even tried a couple of their student model violins and the sound they produce is easily comparable to violins worth several thousands of dollars.

Great selection of violins and the owner Michael was very friendly and knowledgeable. This was definitely the best experience I’ve had with Honolulu violin shops. Thank you again for your help and good luck with growing the business.

If I could give this shop more stars, I would. (I'm a live customer) The owner is passionate about strings and has treated us very well. He really cares about his customers, the quality, workmanship and price of the instruments. I would not hesitate in recommending this shop!

This is a nice kept secret for violins here on Oahu. We are currently renting a violin for my 6yr old daughter. The owner is very knowledgeable about the Violins he has there and has a true passion for music and the instruments. Great customer service as well. I highly recommend this shop.

Mr. Michael Wong was a outstanding professional and very kind man. Gave his honest opinion and not only helped to fix my violin but also gave me some helpful advise as well as connecting me with teachers and resources here on the island. By far the best (and most professional) violin shop in Honolulu!

Michael was very knowledgeable and shared a lot of information with us. Shop is well stocked with instruments as well as accessories. Everything from beginners to advanced. We picked up a violin for our son and we’ll be visiting again in the future!

Other comments have already eloquently described Michael Wong's store. Cremona Violin Hawaii is as much a masterpiece as the violins it sells. I don't exactly know how to demonstrate my opinion of the store in a manner that does it justice, but I have been a musician for a long time and know how rare it is to find a good music store - let alone a superb one. If you come here, you will be treated with much kindness and expertise. Most of all, you can really tell that music comes first :)
If you need more convincing, I have one more point. This store specializes in strings (and does a rather fine job) which is unique here in Hawaii. If you had a heart issue you would see a cardiologist. So if you want a great stringed instrument or great string service, you should go to this store.

I was invited here by my violin professor. There was a soft opening where I was able to play a fine Italian violin worth more than my house in Hawaii as well as instruments starting at $900. While the highlight of my visit should have been playing the old Italian instrument, it was other things that impressed me.
After the shop manager, Michael Wong, allowed me to play an instrument I could never afford, I started to play his other instruments. What shocked me was the quality of sound that came from his $900 and $1,200 instruments. I have never played instruments in this range that offered so much for the money. I've played $3,000 instruments that didn't sound as good as these violins. One of the things I noticed was that even on the $900 instrument, the setup was well done. It was easy to play even on the high notes on the e-string. On instruments at this price point, that rarely the case. For high school players looking for a step up instrument, it is important the set up is maximized for ease of playing. The $5k+ instrument also were excellent buys. Too much detail to go into here on the better instruments, but there was a great array of high school / college /professional level instruments.
What also impressed me was the adjustment of my violin. My instrument is an entry level professional instrument. I saw some violin tools out and they offered to do an adjustment on my violin. I've had my instrument at shops in Honolulu/Chicago/Detroit and the adjustment was never quite right. After I told them what was wrong with my instrument, it took about 45 seconds of what appeared to be tapping on my sound post to bring the instrument back to its full depth and volume. I've spent hundreds of dollars experimenting with different kind of strings because the last three adjustments at other shops didn't yield the results that Magico was able to do in a few minutes.
While walking into violin shops can be intimidating, Michael Wong makes it easy. He is low key, honest, helpful, and an accomplished violinist too. If you are looking for a fraction sized or full sized instrument, Magico will provide you with the best value and quality on island.

Michael is more than just a seller. He is very knowledgeable about instruments especially violin because he is also a player. And he kindly answered every single questions for me who dont know much about violin and yet is curious about everything. You will love the store and Michael after your visit.

The owner, Michael-san, kindly taught me about the violin in Japanese. He listened carefully to our budget and took the time to choose the best violin for the player. He seems to be able to make violins himself, so he repairs them, and the service was excellent.
Also, I know a lot of musicians who are locals in Hawaii, so they can tell me about the local music community in Hawaii.
The building is on the second floor of the building, so it's a little hard to understand, but it was a very good experience with a lot of selections. We have a wide range of violins, from beginner violins to professional violins.
