Reviews of Colfax Guitar Shop
Hunter Miller
Very pleased! Brought my bass that was hacked up by the previous owner. After a thoughtful discussion about forgeries and authenticity we arrived at a solution.
I requested new tuners, new pickups, new wiring harness, new setup. They do it do all and they do it well. No ego consultation they want to know how to make your instrument play the best for you, and that's all that matters. Thank you!
Daryl Bowman
Highly recommend the repair services here. After the work Christian performed cutting my guitar a new nut and setting it up to my preference, I can firmly say I will never take my guitars elsewhere. After having work done at other shops in the northern area, I wish I would have just made the trip down to Colfax Guitar Shop from the start. Thank you!
Ron Smart
Got a large scratch/gash in the finish on my Martin 00018. Contacted multiple shops and could not find anyone that would fix it. Sent a request to Colfax Guitar Shop and Christian replied that they could help me. It was a long drive for me, but well worth it. People in the shop were friendly and very professional. They gave me an estimate for the work and a time frame. They called me well within the time frame and I picked up my guitar.
What a great job they did. Guitar looks fantastic! Thank you. Take your guitars here when you need work done.
Eric Davis
Great shop! Specializes in working on guitars. The have a good selection of strings and small selection of used guitars and pick-ups for sale. Staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. Pricing for services is reasonable and performed by their competent staff. Highly recommend them for set-ups or installations.
Wilson Rougier
5/5, great customer service, super knowledgeable and patient with my questions. I brought my Stratocaster in for them to do some floating bridge setup tweaks and it feels better than ever. Thanks guys.
Dan Kurtz
Always a pleasure to do My Guitar business there which I have been doing for 15 plus years....From buying strings to high-end Guitars and anything Luthier related in between.....Christian. Nils, Sam, etc. have treated me well and with respect....
Mark Lavanish
They completely transformed my $5,000 Les Paul R8!!!
New ownership, same fantastic work/service! I have a small collection of VERY nice guitars. My R8 is now my favorite...this from a guy who didn't even like Les Paul guitars very much in the first place.
Last year, I bought a 50th anniversary Tom Murphy R8 that had already been re-fretted. The frets were too high for my taste. Since they weren't original, I didn't mind changing them out. Boy am I glad I did! I brought it home late last night (they stayed open late for me YMMV) and went to bed without playing it.
First thing this morning I plugged it in and oh my lord! This thing nearly plays itself! I am so impressed. Christian - one of the new owners who also makes his own guitars - planed the fretboard, hand shaped a new bone nut, and set this thing up perfectly. I am beside myself at how much better this thing plays.
In addition, a couple years ago, I brought them a rare Fender Strat (1 of 125) that has a gorgeous red quilted top that puts most PRS's to shame. There was a 1/2" or so circular gouge in the top that went all the way to the bare wood. It looked like a super model who was missing her front teeth.
I left it with these guys for a week or so and when I got it back, I couldn't stop smiling. If I didn't know exactly where to look and what to look for, I would have NEVER known it had been damaged. As you can imagine it is NOT easy to make a repair like that blend in to a top that shows the natural grain of the wood but these guys did it.
Thanks Christian!
Mark Lavanish.

Colfax Guitar Techs, setup a new build, and finished electrical setup. Highly recommend Colfax Guitar Shop. Traveled 50 miles to have work done. Excellent staff, friendly professional service. Also installed new bone nut on a 1987 Fender Strat and locked the floating tremolo to improve tuning.
Steve Fridley
Took my fender bullet here to see if they were interested in making an offer. After adjusting the neck and playing it Dave informed me he wasn't comfortable making me an offer on my guitar thinking it wouldn't be fair to be after considering his labor that had to go into it. This is an old school shop that still has honesty and integrity that seems to prefer to make money the right way, providing quality customer service and completing the job right. I will always take my guitar repairs here and anyone new in town will get this shop as my go to. Thanks Dave.
Michael Marshall
5 stars because I can’t leave 6! Took in a vintage Martin that needed everything: Cracks fixed, neck reset, bridge replacement, re-fret. I had the top redone while I was at it. The workmanship is beyond first rate, and the price was completely reasonable. And the staff was great to work with. Outstanding job!
KelLee Abdella
Highly recommend! I almost bought a new guitar when my Breedlove started losing frets, and I live up in the high country where there are no repair shops for miles. Found these guys, and they did a minor set up for a great price, and were so easy to work with! Thank you for giving me my guitar back, I'm psyched to have her sounding better than new! 🤘
Clay Allison
Incredible job well done. Had my acoustic guitar set up and sounds much better than before. I almost don't recognize it.👍👍 …
Eric Coakley
This shop is just fantastic. Over the years I've had numerous guitars set up and worked on here. They've repaired broken necks and soundboard cracks so well I cannot tell there was ever damage. They're always super nice and give me helpful tips about maintaining my guitars. I almost wish my guitars would break more often so I can visit more.
Tyler D
great environment, friendly and welcoming staff. they stringed up my guitar. definitely trust their knowledge, craftsmanship, and kindness for guitars. glad i went local, will come back thanks guys!

James Surat
These guys are the best. They are knowledgeable and friendly. Always willing to talk about your needs. I don't trust anyone else when it comes to my vintage guitar repairs or setups. Glad I found these guys having moved from the Midwest. I trust them!!!
Chris Schepper
Dave was a pleasure to work with in setting up my new Seagull S6 Slim acoustic guitar. As a beginner, he answered all my questions both technical (in the set up) and practical (in how to best care for the guitar in Colorado's dry climate). I will be back to Colfax Guitar Shop for all my guitar needs.
Mauro Hernandez
Amazing service and very caring and knowledgeable employees. Dave fixed a small issue my guitar had and diagnosed others, and also gave extensive advice on how to avoid it. Definitely coming back here for any other issues I have in the future.
Justine D'Antonio
Highly recommend. Very accommodating, great price. They helped me out in a pinch and my guitar looks and sounds great. Won’t go anywhere else now I know they’re here ! Thanks again guys!
Pat Sullivan
I took an Epiphone EJ-200-BK for the rest of us that's a jumbo black body. Being typical male I thought I'd electrify it. Sawed a hole in the side big enough to park a car in. They saved it from my stupidity. Thanks Guys
Mr. Sullivan

Brought in my Squire Jazzmaster project that needed some serious fretwork. The staff were professional, and the repair work is amazing. After the setup and work my guitar plays better than ever. New pickups are nice and chimey. Will come back for any other work that I need on my guitars as long as I live in the Denver area.
Nicholas Gajewski
I brought in two guitars for them to take a look at. First, I have an acoustic that needs some TLC. Instead of just taking it in for service, he suggested I take the guitar home and try a few things first. I find that level of service, essentially refusing my money, to be indicative of a business with integrity. Also, their advise is currently working... so that's great.
The second guitar was there for a setup. When I picked it up it looked beautiful, they spent some time working on the guitar and paid attention to the details. As I was leaving they suggested I take it home, plug it in, and see how it plays. If I needed any adjustments, simply bring it back. They honored that, as I brought it back the next day (the action was just a bit too low for me) and they made the changes quickly while I waited. Now it plays exactly as I like it, and I have a new shop to go to.
Great service. Trustworthy. Great value.
Thank you!
Kevin Losin
Dave at Colfax guitars did an outstanding job on repairing/restoring my 1935 Martin OM 18 koa guitar.
He reset the neck, the-radius the fret board, did a re-fret, replaced and incorrect bridge that was not properly done with a correct Martin Bridge and repaired the old varnish footprint from the old bridge.
The guitar turned out excellent and took a guitar that was barely playable into a fine instrument that I won’t put down !!!
His communication was great every step of the way !!! Pictures included. Workmanship is superior and a grade above any other luthiers that have done work for me. It was worth the guitars trip from Florida to Denver to have him do the job on this vintage piece of Martin history.
I trusted him with this guitar ...and it was a good decision and worth it and I would recommend him without hesitation.
Thank you Dave
Kevin
Austin Clinton
This crew is super legit. I moved from North Carolina where it's very humid and was unaware that you need to humidify guitars in Colorado. I have a Martin that developed a significant crack in the body. Dropped it off here and they fixed it up, cleaned up and tuned it up so youd never know anything happened to it. The pricing was very fair and they were very helpful in discussing how to avoid future issues.
James Ruden
I brought in my 30 year old guitar for minor repairs to the tuning heads. Not only did they fix my tuners but they repaired the frets and polished her up - my guitar is in better shape than when I bought it 30 years ago. They do incredible work for a very reasonable price.
Antonio Barreiro
Dave and his team at Colfax Guitar Shop are outstanding. I recently brought my guitar to Dave after another shop had struggled with a set-up. Dave took time to understand the problem and my playing style, thoroughly explained how he was going to approach the set-up and then was able to complete the work in 24 hours to accommodate my travel schedule. Really can’t say enough about the quality of work and customer service.
Marc Mayzes
These guys are the real deal! I've taken several instruments to them over the last year after re-discovering guitar during COVID. Their repair work is fantastic and they even converted my dad's old Kay jumbo from 1952 from ladder bracing to x-bracing.
Daniel Pflug
Incredibly happy with my experience with these fine luthiers. Brought in my Martin that was suffering from the dreaded cracks and loose bracing. Christian did a phenomenal job and she’s like brand new. You can barely tell she was ever damaged. Also super friendly and personable. Trust these guys with your gear.
Karl Reinig
After 40 years noodling around on my acoustic guitar I took it to the Colfax Guitar Shop to get it "set up." They were easy to work with and reasonably priced. The best part is that it now plays significantly easier. Two lessons learned 1) Colfax Guitar Shop is a great place. 2) I won't wait 40 years to get another set up.
Kaleb Abbott
So impressed with these guys! I am a novice guitar player who finds many shops like these intimidating and the employees to talk way above my head. These guys explained everything to me thoroughly and did fantastic work! They also got my guitar repaired very quickly. It sounds so much better now and I couldn't be more pleased!
RC Brown
Super friendly group with a small section of used guitars and basses up front. Their main business is repairs and service so don't expect a ton of retail but what is there is definitely a good deal and worth playing. Custom acoustic guitars are also possible from their luthier but I believe he isn't taking on many projects other than what he wants to build.
michael st. john
This is the guitar shop that we all envision when we think of a “guitar shop.” Best guitar set up in town, bar none. The owner is super approachable and knowledgeable. There are just enough guitars adorning the walls to noodle on and the environment is pretty relaxed. If there was a guitar shop on Sesame Street, this would be it. Support your local pickers; buy your strings and gear here.
Scott Gilliom
From strings & set up, to full restoration there are 3 full Luthier benches active with guitars in process...
George Demopoulos
As a gigging musician, it's great to know that there's a local shop I can count on for quick turnaround times, peerless knowledge and expertise, and friendly employees. I have a Modulus Q5 and an Alembic that these guys have worked on multiple times over the years. Both basses are nearly two decades old, and these guys keep them working like new. I will never go anywhere else if I need an instrument repaired in Denver.
Chuck Morris
My go to shop for guitar repair. I've had pickups replaced, wiring issues fixed and frets replaced. These guys do excellent work! Adding to this review since it won't let me leave another one. CGS continues to do stellar work for me. Had them swap out some pickups. The Ibanez job had a few issues, they handled it very well. I couldn't be happier with them and wouldn't take my guitars anywhere else. Thanks guys!
Brett Kaye
Bought a new strat, but the setup from the factory was weak. My first time to bring a guitar to Colfax Guitar Shop, and all I can say is they did an incredible job. Plays like buttuh. They set it up to my personal preferences. I'm taking some of my other guitars in to have them set them up too, because I want them to play like this one. Nice job guys!
Philip Sanko
I’ve only had great experiences here. I recently had them fix some cracks in my Taylor and correct the action. This guitar sounds better than it did when I bought it brand new. Highly recommend.
Rebecca Noland
The staff here are fast and efficient. I had a headstock I needed to repair on my guitar and they fixed it in less than 10 minutes and gave me a good price! Friendly people who know what they’re doing! I definitely recommend this place!
Conrad Oster
I took in my Fender Stratocaster because it really needed needed some love. I was worried about taking it somewhere new, to people I didn't know. I've always had a "guitar guy," and when Larry's Guitar shop in Longmont closed, I needed to find a new place to have some custom work done.
I've had this instrument 25 years and it's near and dear to my heart. After we looked at what needed to be done, agreed on a price, I felt like they understood that and my instrument was in good hands. These guys are the real deal, very talented technicians at their trade and thank the heavens there are still places like this around! A quality Luther you can trust is priceless, especially if you have an old instrument that needs some special attention now and then. If you take good care of an old strat it will last you a lifetime.
Chris Bartschi
these guys do excellent repair work on both acoustic and electric guitars they are very friendly and also meticulous about their craft. They sell curated Used Guitars which are sometimes vintage. It is the perfect addition to the bluebird neighborhood
Tonya Morrison
Look no more! Locally owned and operated. If you have a guitar and it needs doctor this is the only place in Denver to take it. If you need a decent or vintage guitar check this place out. Owner is brilliant in regards to the knowledge and experience I totally respected. I took my vintage rascal to him and got back an instrument that played like a 5,000.00 guitar. Can't say enough good things about the spot.
Katy Dominguez
Great service. They gave me an accurate quote and the time estimate was on the nose. My guitar is in much better shape and the staff helped me figure out what needed to be done. Very satisfied!
Zee Nehemoth
Amicable and friendly staff. Dave and Christian are always helpful and their quality of service is top notch. If you need your guitar set up or repaired, definitely stop here first.
Cullen Scott
Awesome work done here, just had these guys put a vintage style telecaster neck on my 80s Peavey, they took it on eagerly and it was no easy task. Guitar came out so good, it actually plays better than it ever has in the 13 years I've owned it. Would recommend these guys to anyone.
Daniel Wulz
I first went into this store for Stop-bar-tailpeice parts that guitar center doesn't carry. Instead of having to order the pieces for $30, the guy who runs the store gave them to me for $10.
I went in a couple weeks later because I had damaged the nut on my gibson flying V. The same guy repaired it in 30 seconds for free. I love this place. He's the best in town.
Jim Mathis
I popped in to buy a capacitor for a bass I was building at the time. The employees at Colfax Guitar shop are all helpful, but there was one luthier in particular (I didn't get his name) that talked with me about my bass build for several minutes and with LOTS of helpful information. In the end, I walked out with a $2 capacitor and a ton of knowledge.
Matthew Grizzell
Top notch shop with great staff and always a small, random selection of neat guitars and amps to peruse. They fixed up my CIJ Jazzmaster with a nice setup. Went from dropping screws to shred. I also brought in a junker epiphone acoustic for work, and they recognized it was In pretty bad shape...instead, they sold me a salvaged epiphone franken-dreadnought (their work) for the trade and about $100. Still playing it years on. They also fixed up the lost cause epiphone for sale and a new life. These guys understand that guitars are living, breathing entities that deserve respect. Hey!
Scott Beckman
Love these guys. They've taken care of my guitars for years now, and I couldn't be happier with their work each and every time.
erikhoeffner
Early 87 Ibanez RG in Road Flare Red, came with the original pickups which can be hard to come by. Looks amazing for the age and plays great with lots of mid snarl.
No flaws on the guitar and has a perfect neck with no crack behind the nut like many Ibanez RGs from the 80s. Previous owner cleared the headstock so the logo is protected for good. Nice piece of neon art that might be collectable someday. Would go back, nice people, good service.
Derek Ng
Love these guys. Dave and his crew are top notch, and I take all my guitars to them for electronics and setups. Highly recommended.
Dinger Homerun
I brought in my $2,000 Martin guitar for repair after some idiot broke it while I was out of town. Still don't know who/how/what happened, but the neck was snapped almost totally off just beneath the headstock. Wow... I didn't think the guitar stood a chance. I brought it in here the next day and they said they can fix it no problem. A mere $250 later, they had fixed it up better than new with splints and other things. It was slightly off color from the rest of the back of the neck/headstock, but wow, it was very, very close and looked amazing. That was 5 years ago... never had a problem with it since. For the price and quality this place does their work, it is extremely recommended by me to anyone who asks me about guitar repair.
David Colizzo
Without a doubt, the best setup's in the city. You'll have to wait a bit more than likely, but no one does a better job that these cats - they work on your instruments like they would their own, and it shows.
Hans Wendlandt
Highly recommended. I came in asking to have my guitar rewired which they did. They also grounded my bridge, added a kill switch, filed the fret ends and adjusted the nut. There's now no buzz, sounds great!
Matthew Zald
Amazing place to get your guitar fixed, especially if it is a Martin. Super knowledgable and gave me a bunch of options to choose from so that I could keep costs done. I totally trust this place!

Their level of excellence is way higher than my expectations. They really take care for your instrument. It’s also a cool place to look around and see them at work.
T.J. Stone
Staff was very knowledgeable and helpful; much of their space is devoted to the repair shop, but they also had a unique and eclectic selection of mostly vintage acoustic & electric guitars and basses that I enjoyed perusing and playing.
