I drove through Columbus a couple of weeks ago on my way back home from a long road trip out east. I only had time to visit one record store there (it was late afternoon on a Sunday), so I chose Spoonful Records based on their reviews on here. I have to say that the reviews were spot-on, as it is a nice record store with an excellent selection of both used and new vinyl. Everything is well-organized, which makes flipping easy and fun, and the owners are friendly and knowledgeable. Both made an effort to greet me and talk about my selections a little, even though they were busy. I always appreciate that, as the main appeal of a record store other than the music is the interaction one has with owners and/or staff. I could tell by their conversations with others in the store, that they know their regular customers well and appreciate them (and in return are appreciated by them) I don't come through Columbus often, but from now on when I do, I will stop in Spoonful. I highly recommend this awesome record store!

This was our first visit to Spoonful...in search of a turntable for my teenage son, his first. Brett, the gentleman who helped us, was very friendly and knowledgeable without giving off the stereotypical "snobby record store worker" vibe (see: High Fidelity). Spoonful has a great selection of records both new and old covering all genres! Specifically, I really liked that they have two "Local" sections...Ohio & Columbus. Their Hip-Hop selection is the best that I've experienced so far...I haven't been to every record store yet in Columbus though.

I travel for a living and spend eight months out of the year on the road. When I have a stop in any city I find the nearest Used Vinyl store to go have a browse. Today I stumbled onto Spoonful Records. Absolutely one of the finest record stores I have ever walked into. Superb selection of every genre, and a fantastic metal selection. The owners were truly wonderful people, and I could have easily spent the whole day there chatting and browsing. I am so much looking forward to coming back here very soon. I called Spoonful Records the other day for a question about my record player and Xenia was just SUPER kind and helpful. I didn’t realize it was about an hour away from me but because of how great she was and was able to give me a price right off the back for the repair I described I decided to make the drive. When I arrived the owner even helped with carrying my player into the store from the car. He started the repairs and was intentional about making sure my transportation back home would be safe and was great about informing me about fix. They have a very organized store and large selection of records with parts in stock. The owner was so humble and Im so happy with how today went. Thank you all so much!

UPDATE JULY 15 2022: Go check out their new space on State, it’s awesome! This is the record store I go to the most and I love it. They almost always have the record I’m looking for, they hold records if you ask them to, and the prices are more than fair. Not to mention the owners Brett and Amy are incredible people; super friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. Also their logo is too dope to not have a piece of their merch or a sticker.

Yesterday [10-12-2022], I briefly visited Spoonful Records at 144 E. State St. in downtown Columbus. That morning, I had attended a 10:00 a.m. press conference at the Ohio Statehouse and then had eaten lunch. After lunch, I had been walking towards the COTA stop that is within view of the YWCA [at 65 S. Fourth St.] with plans to wait for 25 minutes or so for my COTA bus home. While passing 144 E. State St., I noticed an "easel sign" on the sidewalk with the message "Record Store Open" so I decided to stop in for a brief visit. I actually no longer use "records" [or "LP records"] [or "vinyl"] myself because I first switched [25 or so years ago] to exclusively using CDs; I later completely stopped listening to recorded music. But I still enjoy visiting "record stores" [or whatever they are called these days] because of a shared culture with which I enjoy connecting at times. It turns out that I had already known one of the co-owners of Spoonful Records from when he had been a student at Columbus College of Art and Design while I had been working for the former Long's Commercial Art Supply in the basement of the former Long's Book Store at 1836 N. High St. His face had been familiar to me so I had initially guessed that perhaps he had managed an OSU-campus-area record store while I had worked at Long's but it turns out that actually he had bought art supplies from me in the basement of Long's during the middle 1990s. He invited me to "go behind the counter" for a moment so that I would be able to photograph a section of the store that is uniquely visible from behind that counter. That photograph is the only photograph that I had taken yesterday that includes a turntable at the bottom of the image. I particularly enjoyed their "saxophone" lamp that is near their north wall that appears in three of the photographs of Spoonful Records that I have posted to Google Maps and is featured in two of those photographs. If you are in downtown Columbus and are looking for some high-quality "vinyl" [previously known as "records" or "LP records"] I recommend Spoonful Records.

I don't live in Columbus, I live 2.5 hours south in KY, but I travel to Columbus multiple times during the year. This is one of my main stops when I'm in town. Staff is fantastic, selection is awesome and the shop is just a great place to wander around. If you are in Columbus and are looking for a great record shop, keep Spoonful on your short list.

I luv this place! One of the best record stores in Ohio, I strolled in from Detroit, Michigan and the owners were so nice and friendly, I felt like I was at home, store is laid out in a ultra cool mindset with three pinball machines in the back and of course 33&1/3 rpms covering the landscape- wiener mobile across the street on 3/9/22 what more could you ask for!! I have always had friendly and helpful interactions with the staff at Spoonful records. If they post on their Facebook that they got a record in, they can often hold it for a few hours until you can get in the shop to buy it. Great store. They specialize in rock but have a good variety of other genres, plenty of new music as well as deals on older records. The owners are super personable and nice, and helped us pick out speakers and a turntable - one even offered to help with any "tech support" getting it setup- that definitely wasn't his job. They follow mask protocol, deliver within 10 miles, are open 7 days a week... all great stuff. Plus it's a great location! Go get a beer around the corner, play some arcade games, and pick out some records on the way home!

One of my favorite places to visit in town. Brett and Amy are always so nice and helpful. Great selection with a wide variety. Whenever I go to pick up a record I always walk out with more than I planned- their Used Indie section is my own personal gold mine and their pricing on harder to find/out of print records is always priced more reasonably than what I’ve found online or in other stores. If you want a solid record store experience where you get to talk music and crate dig through a great selection- Spoonful is where it’s at.

Spoonful has been our go to record store from the start of our collection 7 years ago. We even purchased our record player through them. Their collection is great, they are always willing to go the extra mile and help you find what you are looking for, or order it if need be. During the pandemic Brett and Amy hand delivered records to our home! It was such an amazing experience and really brightened a scary time in our city and country. We’ve always felt comfortable shopping with our young son, Amy goes out of her way to make our experience terrific, and even entertains our son and others we’ve witnessed while shopping. Spoonful is the first store I recommend to people looking for albums, and they are also the first place I take out of town guests. Brett and Amy are great people, and do a lot of good for the community. Highly recommend getting to know them and visiting the shop regularly. You will always find more than what you’re looking for.

I will say my first experience with this Record shop was at the beginning of the pandemic. I grew up listening to vinyl, my mom had a record player and an extensive amount of albums. I was going to buy a Crossley off of Amazon and I called Spoonful and they educated me on brands. I spend the money for the LP 60 at the shop. Every time I am in there I am treated great and given advice. They know music! The customer service is amazing! I've sent friends who have visited me to spoonful and they have had similar experiences as I have had. GREAT PLACE!!! I love the fact that their hip hop section is filled with some of the legends and lesser known legends!

They have some good sidewalk sales sometimes too and a year end sale. Great selection and great prices. I've also got some cool storage crates here.

Hands down my favorite record store in CBUS! I love that they are open 7 days a week, the store is clean, well organized and easy to navigate. There is always plenty of street parking available and the meters and it only costs .50 and hour, which I will regularly spend more time than that because Brett and Amy and the crew are awesome and so great to chat with while browsing. I have found the most amazing records here. They have a great eye for buying, and many times I’ve mentioned a record I’m looking for, and a couple days later it show up like magic. Oh, and there’s pin ball!! We are lucky to have a shop like Spoonful in our city.

Today was record store day. I had never heard of this store until I found them online via a Google search. I honestly didn't expect much but figured I'd give them a shot and decided to go there for Record Store Day on 7-17-2021 because several other stores in town didn't get the stock they expected for this special day. When I arrived I was blown away. They had multiple copies of practically every RSD release! I got everything I was looking for. They also had the best selection of vinyl I've seen in a record store in years and I am a music freak constantly shopping online and in person anywhere that sells vinyl and cds! Their prices are very fair and affordable which impressed me. The staff was very friendly, knowledgeable and treated me like they've known me for years. They even had donuts for their customers at no charge! This is my new go-to record store in Central Ohio and I highly recommend Spoonful Records!!

They have a website that allows you order online and either pick up in store, have it delivered (within 12 miles), or have items shipped. Each visit to Spoonful is a unique experience in terms of the music you will find. The one constant is the friendly and informative staff who share their passion for music. Brett and Amy are wonderful and they make my wife and I feel like old friends. Very responsive to questions or requests. They respond to pre-order requests and questions via messenger promptly. They have delivered to my home in Pickerington on a few occasions which is outside their normal 12 mile radius. Most notably, Brett drove out to exchange 1 album of a four album set, which I had purchased new, because it had a skip. Amazing. They took good care of their customers during the pandemic. During the stay at home period when they started their online shop and then again when we could visit the store and they made sure all protocols were in place. A great place to shop, again and again.

Columbus has thirteen or so vinyl pushers and Spoonful is my favorite of those. Brightly lit, stocked well, great atmosphere, good available parking, and conveniently located close to some great places to eat (Dirty Frank's and Mikey's Late Night Slice). Brett and Amy are great. They genuinely like helping the customer find what they are looking for and it shows. My thirteen-year-old loves chatting with Amy and my eight-year-old digs the three pinball machines. They are my go-to for rock, indies, soul, hip-hop, and their hela good selection of classic r&b 45s. Check'em out cuz they are all Kool and Gang😁.

With a couple options to choose from in the Central Ohio region, I've become quite smitten with Spoonful. Located in downtown Columbus, they are very likely an easy drive for many. I'm coming from Hilliard.. They have new and used records. I've also been able to see the new releases and hold until I can get in the car and head on down! I haven't spent too much time browsing physically IN their storefront in the last year, but their communication with us has been stellar! Had my first of what I'm sure will be many visits to this wonderful gem. I fell in love with the atmosphere and the dollar bin. It was also their 6 year anniversary, so all of their albums priced over a $1 were an additional $1 off. They have a great selection of music of every genre. I also appreciate that the store is very clean and so are the albums. I don't know how many times I've gone into shops to browse vinyl and come away with grimy fingers. The records themselves are also really clean in the jackets, most looking like they have never been played. I walked away with 9 albums, one being a 2 record set for $22 after tax. I'm so happy to have found a place get my vinyl fix.

These guys are the best! I bought a record player in March and wasn't able to set it up till June, and it wasn't working. I took it back and didn't have a receipt or anything and they helped me get it ready, even wrapped the cords and put a twisty tie on the stylus so it wouldn't move as I went home. It's a small store, and has really friendly staff, new turntables for sale, free pinball for the kids, and they will hunt down used titles or order new ones for you! Free parking around the corner off Lazelle, plus plenty of street parking. Great selection of rock/pop, soul, jazz, classical, soundtracks, and an organized dollar bin. Used records are lovingly cleaned and checked for condition.

Spoonful has a great genere selection and the prices are extremely reasonable. The average price for an album seems to be about $3 with others at $1. I purchased six albums and all were in excellent playing condition. Judging from a sign they had on a stack, they dust and test records. Shop staff were very cool and nice. They also had comics and early mags. Definitely recommend to check out this shop.

I have special ordered at least two albums and bought more right out of the bargain bins. The have NEW, Vintage, used, certified used you name the condition they got it. Is your taste in music eclectic they have a whole range of genres, blues rock, soul gospel, rnb, they even have the newer genres too. They have a very good selection of vinyl records that will satisfy your interest in buying vinyl again. Old School, New School, Jazz, R&B (old and new albums) and much more. I found a old George Clinton Album and a brand new Beyonce' album. they also have Rap on vinyl. If you can't find what you would like in the store Brett will order it for you I ask him did they have the Janet Jackson Unbreakable album he told me he placed a order and he was waiting for them to arrive he told me when they come in he would contact me and he did. They have a great selection of records and their prices are reasonable I would recommend checking them out.
