Reviews of Guitar Center
Always enjoy visiting GC. Well stocked and very knowledgeable staff. I went in to get a guitar and it was a a great experience. Not knowing much about the guitar I got a full breakdown of its history and how I should care for it. I go back every now and then to test out drum kits, DJ gear and occasionally pick up some new gear.
I wouldn't say I've bought a whole butt-load of stuff from here, but I've never had a bad experience. The staff have generally been friendly and helpful, if a little aloof. I probably would be too if I had to listen to "Enter Sandman" being butchered for the 1,000th time.
Probably the best music store in Chicago. Tons of instruments of any range of price, new and used. Incredible assortment of guitars and accessories. Staff always kind, friendly and highly professional.
Kyle and the guitar technician are awesome. I had taken my guitar to Joliet for strings replacement and they gave me used ones. Then took it to Bedford park guitar center and was told to go on YouTube to do it myself. Kyle and the technician confirmed I had used strings put on. Never again will I visit those locations. I encourage everyone to visit Halsted and diversy as the manager Kyle and guitar technician, and staff are very professional and have experience. You guys did an amazing job and my guitar sounds super awesome!!
The best music equipment shop in Chicago. Their name is Guitar Center but you can expect much more than that. They have all kind of guitar, piano, MIDI, accessories, you name it. Their space is pretty huge and the best part is you can play instruments while you’re shopping. Very reasonable price ranged from $100 if you look for a decent acoustic guitar.
A large number of the guitars were locked up, which makes it hard to test them. Understandable from a business perspective but it makes the store a bit more unwelcoming and less ideal when shopping for guitars. Could be solved if they just invested in more staff to monitor the premises.
Jay really helped me with my first buying experience. From the Amp to the strap and picks and of course the beautiful guitar that I don't want to even remove the plastic from. His quick tutorial had me up and running in 5 minutes. Can't wait to start lessons. Thanks again Jay!
The Guitar Center on Halsted in Chicago is an excellent music store with anything you could ever need as a musician. Great prices on new and used equipment, and you can even get a fair price when you sell or trade them your musical equipment. Friendly staff and knowledgeable. There is even free indoor parking.
Super helpful. Went in due to messing up some parts on my guitar. Was able to have it resolved on the spot. Technician Ryan was super helpful and was able to show me the faults on what I was doing for future reference too.
I was cruising down LSD when a classic Guns N Roses jam came on. I reached under my car seat for my drumsticks but only found one. How can any respectable human play the drums to a great song with only one drumstick while driving? I Googled this store and stopped in for a new pair of sticks. They had an enormous selection and cool employees that gave you that “sup” nod when making eye contact. The dude that was working the register even had tattoos and called me bruh. Now I’m prepared for the next Metallica song I hear!
I am passionate about getting to this place!

Went in to purchase a keyboard. Staff was super helpful and talked about all the options. I've never played a keyboard before and they took the time to understand what would be best for me. You can't buy that on a website. Now I just need to learn.
I really enjoy everyone who works at this guitar center. Special shout out to Uriah for helping me find everything I needed with a warm smile. It really felt like my needs and interests were more important than trying to sell me on something, which I really appreciated. I can always trust to get the support I need whenever I come through!
Great place, amazing staff, and negotiable prices.. ive been coming to this Is particular Guitar Center since I was 14 and now my sons 16.. great place and free parking!! In Lakeview you can't beat that.
You basically already have an opinion about GC already. It's the same price as reputable online retailers. They will also ship to store. A good option if you want to try it before lugging it home.
Really good for accessories.
Always a laid back and helpful attitude at this store. I really appreciated the genuine guidance and consideration from Dale on my visit yesterday, which resulted in me bringing home my first guitar purchase in many years. Super happy with it!
I just recently started visiting Guitar Center after a break from instruments. This was my first time visiting this location. The layout is about the same as the others. Nice and functional. Parking was easy. Free garage parking when shopping at GC, at the time of this post. I came in to pick up an online order. There was some confusion and I was told my order was ready ahead of time so when I arrived my order had not been prepared. The associate that was assisting me quickly jumped into action and before I knew it he was handing me my order and I was out the door!!! Excellent service!! I believe his name was Nick. Thanks again!
Great staff! Not pushy, very knowledgeable about products.
I bought a speaker online and i didn't like it and wanted to due an exchange for a better speaker
so i Drove 40 mins to this store for they where the only ones who had the speaker I was looking for to do the exchange. Trenton helped me with the exchange and was even able to give me a discount to help shorten out of pocket costs for the higher priced speaker.
He was very nice and willing to do that for me when others said they couldn't or it can't be done, he made it happen and took delight doing it and helping me and taking the new return speaker back and exchanging it for a new higher priced speaker I wanted to buy. u don't find to many people like him at guitar centers, most are quick to take your $ & offer you extended warranty, he was able to not only offer me the discount but give me one, when others wouldn't.
He went above what he hade to do for the customer and do what others wouldn't or didn't want to do. My hats off to him & I left happy & with a better speaker and the speaker I wanted for $60 more then what I payed for the 1st speaker verses over $120 if he hadn't given me the discount.
And the thing was I didn't ask him, he willing offered and checked to see if he could do it and kept his word and did it and made it happen. This store was amazing and better then many other guitar centers I've been to, he helped make this store a pleasant experience to do business with. Other stores wouldn't have done what they did and plus they where the only store who had the Speaker in stock which was A HeadRush FRFR-112 and it sounded way better then the Alto TS312 ( which the bass sounds hollow to me )
but costs more, but a huge improvement over the Alto TS312
And headrush frfr-112 bass is a little more punchy then Alto TS312 and doesn't sound hollow and the treble & mids are more refined and clearer then Alto TS312 . I'm pleased with this purchase from this store and sales associate who helped me make it happen....
Going back Tuesday. I was looking at a hand held recorder. They had one in a box which the salesman showed me. I wanted to see more details about it and went online to view it and the manager of the store inform the salesman that they had them on display so that customers could view them and get a feel for the product. I'm guessing that it was the salesman first day.
I have bought so many things from the Chicago GC since the 80's it's the folks at the stores that make the company. Has a super helpful sales guy (Uriah) show me a few guitars and I got a new Martin sounds great. Thanks!
Love my new Martin D10-E ! The sales staff was really helpful, and patient. I played alot of guitars until I found the exact one. Thanks G.C.!
Always like this place. Got a set up on my Fender accoustic and they did an amazing job. They said it would take three days. I was satisfied. I mention to the clerk I was going into the studio the following week. The guitar tech set it up the next day because he knew I needed it for recording . That was above and beyond a nice thing to do.
Super nice visit! I'm new to guitars but when one of the strings snapped I was able to bring it here and got it restrung. Everyone was so friendly and super helpful. I'm sure I'll be back!!!
Bought my very first instrument with these guys and they were kind enough to throw in a free cable and strap for my guitar as a fist time buyer. One thing to note. The guitar you see may not be in stock, so have a few in mind before you buy. Nick was very helpful even though I don't know much about guitars other then the few basics. Rest of staff was also patient as well. Beware though. An electric guitar does have a few extra costs upfront so prepare for the sticker shock.
A wide variety of products with super helpful and attentive employees. It's always fun just to walk in and look at everything.
If you are a serious musician, or just want to set your dormant inner musician free, check this place out! Lessons, instruments, sheet music, and knowledgeable musician sales teams make this place a hub for music lovers. Percussion instruments, guitars, keyboards & a range of digital pianos are ready for you to try and buy. I have gifted acoustic guitars and lessons, most recently, and have my eye on digital keyboards next. Great prices with experienced staff to guide your purchases...win win!
Hard to say anything at all. The staff is nice. There was a cool dude discussing basses with me. Everyone was cordial. Prices went up due to inflation. So yeah unless you already have the instrument you like you would have to just close your eyes and be ready to spend about a 1000.
But the place is lit. I love it.
Hann the salesperson was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. I have had consistently good service here. It's helpful to be able to see, touch return equipment, and their selection is solid.
It's just a great place for gear, like being a kid in a candy store. They were very patient as I tried to find a guitar that I connected with. I did too!
Superb staff. Many years ago, I had a hard time with a salesman but he moved on. It's all good folks. The level of product knowledge is high which makes it a great place to shop.
Nice facility, with a great selection of guitars to try. Good stock of accessories, and the staff was helpful without hovering. I left with a new acoustic, three accessories, a smile on my face, and a happy heart!
Corporate overlords have destroyed this chain with debt. I only go there if I need a partsame day
Very customer oriented store. They sent me used guitar without a bag but shipped brand new bag separately next day. Thank you guys.
Great selection, price matching, knowledgeable stuff.
The employees were really helpful in helping me find the equipment that I needed. I was able to get in and out in about 20 minutes. I did have an idea of what I wanted. Anything they didn’t have in stock we were able to find a something of equivalent value and around the same price. Super happy with what I got
Amazing store and customer service is spectacular!!
Staff is super friendly. Large selection of guitars. Took my son for guitar lessons.. He really enjoys them. free parking in the garage right above Guitar Center
In mid-October, I purchased a used guitar from this location. Within 2 weeks, it had broke after a minor fall. I called this location, and after an initial unpleasant experience was able to speak with the store manager. He was polite, empathetic and calmly explained how my guitar had broken so quickly and provided good options to rectify the situation. The resolution was to take back my guitar and provide a credit towards another.
I came into the store and a sales associate walked me through good, inexpensive options for another used guitar. The store manager spoke with me again at purchase and also provided me a gig bag, free of charge, to ensure I was satisfied. The way the store manager and sales associate handled my initial disappointment was a perfect example of great customer service and I walked away thoroughly satisfied. I will definitely be back to purchase again when I am in the market for another instrument or equipment.
Awesome and helpful staff. I know nothing about guitars and Marcos walked me threw to find the best guitar for my wife! Shout out to the whole staff for being so helpful and friendly!
Dave helped me customize my Epiphone Les Paul into basically a Gibson Les Paul. He was able to upgrade my wiring to a Jimmy Page style setup. Every place I called quoted me at least $75-100 more and estimated it would take at least a week. Dave was able to get it done in 2 days. The staff I have encountered have been friendly and insightful with my rig and amp setup.
My girlfriend and I just finished grad school and relocated to Chicago for work. We went to the store to purchase a digital piano for our studio. Was greeted by a sales rep named Shawn, who showed us into the piano room. He gave us space to explore the different models on our own, yet stayed close enough to answer questions, and got us a discount. We ended up paying $1600+ for a Roland model on Aug 9th. So far so good!
Fast forward to today, Aug 16th, and our piano still isn't shipped! We paid $60+ for shipping and everyday when we called, Shawn or Andy (his manager) would promise us he'll ship it the next day & email us the UPS tracking number. So far, no tracking info or piano !!
After paying $1600+, we are tired of calling everyday, often being put on hold for more than 15 min, and then only to hear "we'll take care of it/ we'll ship it tomorrow/ we'll send you the tracking info" but then not receiving ANYTHING from them.
We're both recent graduates who are excited to start life in a new city, yet Guitar Center gave us a rude awakening. Extremely disappointed so far.
Update on Aug17th: after speaking to a different manager named Tito, he took notes of our situation and shipped it to us the next day. Tito changed the review from 1 to 3 stars!
Super helpful in exchanging my piano for a mini
friendly people, Dave's pretty cool. nice selection of guitars. I think they have an ai stocking algorithm, so might be worth a call 😊😊 they had a yellow Les Paul I was hoping for …
What an amazing and fantastic experience I am a noob and I ask a lot of dumb questions but the sales person was patient and accommodating. I recently decided to learn how to play my two electric guitars properly and the nice lady explained about in person and remote learning options made me feel great just the over all experience was tremendous. I do plan on going back to have one of my guitars restrung properly. The prices were great they had a lot of options I'm very happy and definitely recommend this place. If your worried social distancing they had us wait outside so too many people were not in the masks were work and social distance was definitely inforced.
Everyone was super nice and patient and really encouraged you to try out the instruments. Recommend coming here and definitely will be back
I bought my first guitar from these guys a few days ago and they were very helpful. I talked to David over the phone, describing the guitar I was looking for, but did not know the name. He had patience with me and found exactly what I was talking about and put it by the front desk for me to pick up. I am an hour away from this location, but will definitely come back.
Where else would you find a Laney Ironheart jacked into a bad cat speaker with an axe like a Strandberg?!
We go here for all the things my husband needs for his drums. This time we went for a drum microphone. The customer service is always great. Everyone is always very helpful. They had a pretty good selection and were reasonable priced. We asked for suggestions. The associate gave us the best one for what we needed. Not the most expensive. Great experience.
Great service experience. My wife and I ordered a brand new E-Piano in the $1500 range in the local Chicago Lincoln Park branch and were very excited. Unfortunately it arrived with some broken keys, likely a factory error, not even shipping. I called them and spoke to Ashley S., the local Customer Service Manager, over the phone. Already on the phone she was very friendly and attentive. She told me to bring the Piano in which I did. When I arrived she assisted me right away and even helped me to take it out of the car carefully. She took the Piano back and ordered me a new one. Great service experience and a big proof why it is still important to have local stores and a in-person sales and service experience in times or everything going online. I can recommend this store to anybody planning on buying muscial supplies or instruments.
Anyone with any interest in guitar would love this place. Parking is convenient as there is a parking structure right next to it. Great place to try new gear and talk to the associates here. I love hanging out here and the gear here is reasonable. If you're nice, you can strike up some solid deals.
I had an electronics issue with an acoustic guitar I bought at another GC location. So, I went to the Chicago store because they had 4 of the same model for a swap.
Nick was the person who helped me and he went above and beyond the call of duty, making sure I got a nice replacement (because all guitars are different) and that I was happy with my choice. Kudos to Nick for his patience and help. The overall selection of music equipment there is large and diverse. It's not the closest GC to my home, but I would definitely shop there in the future.
I've been here three times over the past three weeks and every time I've come, the staff have been fantastic. The staff have always been helpful without being condescending, giving advice that's actually been useful without talking down to me. Going to continue to buy my podcasting equipment from here for sure
Still a great place to shop or just hangout and play some nice gear and instruments. Picked up my new guitar today . Had a small issue with the terms but spoke to the store manager Christan and we traded our point is views. He gracefully did go my way and I appreciated it. So the store was good customer service. My guitar is the BOMB! Set up nicely and put my set of 10s as I asked. So over all I'm a happy camper. THKS TRENT AND CHRISTAN.
Wonderful experience buying a starter guitar for my daughter. We were helped by the very capable Hann.
Imo great company everyone from the call center customer service department to the in-store professionals I felt so taken care of, beyond happy with my experiences. Ryan in Repairs is Exceptional! 🙌 …
Very nice staff. Let me wander until I was ready to talk to someone about what I was interested in. Very helpful in letting me know about my options! Even polished the guitar up for me before I left.
Been going to this location for years. With all the competition in the last few years, it's still my go to place. The salespeople take the time to make sure that you are happy. Charley Jones even took the time to play the other guitars that I was trying out, so that I could hear the sound projection from the front of the guitar as opposed to sitting behind it. I love my new Martin Guitar!
One of the best Guitar Center experiences I've had was at this store. A knowledgable and pretty young lady named Atta warmly greeted me and asked if she could help me find what I was looking for. I knew what I needed but she made sure to direct me to the right spot as she followed-up with all the accessories I wanted. Used to walking into Guitar Center with employees dropping the ball while juggling between clients. Happy to see a professional do her job so thoroughly and with strong, dedicated passion.
Great service I was taken care by the manager in the drums department very friendly provided all answers to my questions in professional way. I went in for one item end purchasing a lot more. I guess is unusual to find good service and good prices most of time you only get one or the other. This time I won I was able to get both. I will definitely return in near future.
The number one spot for all musician, from beginners to professionals . They have a helpful and amazing stuff.
Hann is knowledgeable and extremely helpful. She made my purchase experience pleasant. Will visit again.
Very knowledgeable and friendly staff. The store is organized well and the acoustics are great for demo of instruments. They usually have what I'm looking for but sometimes the prices aren't as competitive as I'd like. On the plus side they do have a free parking garage and elevator!
Great staff. Super helpful in getting me what I needed.
Jax was excellent in helping me to play and give technical advice on products in stock. She was very knowledgeable with both acoustic and electric guitars. Also honest!!!. I will return with friends in the very near future. Thanks again!
I went in wanting to by my first guitar, awesome right? My experience was ehh. One you guy was very enthusiastic to help me out and wanting to help. The other guy who was getting a guitar for me was more bothered for helping me out. Unfortunately, they didn’t have it in stock and instead of checking if another store had it in stock try to up sale me. Luckily I had a friend with me, and told me to take my business somewhere else. He didn’t seem to want my business. I worked in customer service for many years and this is not how you treat a guest. Sorry, I’m going to another place.
Walking the streets of Chicago, we were often surprised to find Guitar Center and it was amazing. Very pleasant environment with a wide range of musical instruments and accessories that you can test. We feel at home. Attended by specialized professionals, especially Chloe, who produced a very positive atmosphere and was certainly very friendly and helpful. We love our purchase (Seagull M4 Guitar) and are here training to be able to play just like her! Hahahahahaha ...
I highly recommend this place.
This is the place if you are looking for just about anything when it comes to guitars and guitar supplies. Not sure of what you are looking for, just ask one of the friendly sales people who can steer you in the right direction. With so many electric and acoustic guitars on the floor for you to try, you are bound to find something you will like!
Sales associate was very knowledgeable
Been playing electric guitar for a couple years and wanted to grab a throw around acoustic. Selection was great, staff was helpful, and prices were fair. Minus one star due to the amount of up selling I had to endure at checkout. I don't need a $30 tuner with a $20 life time warranty. If i get in a bind that's what my phone is for.
I’ve been here about 3/4 times now and I keep asking questions and walk out with the wrong stuff every time. The guys working pro audio should really know what they’re talking about. Sucks I’ve spent more in Lyft fare I could have put that money towards something cool from the store. Cmon guys. After going back in and speaking to Cason he was able to help me and make sure I had what I needed.
I go there every weekend and kill about two hours there. They have a huge selection of premium guitars and a wide array of amps. The drum room is awesome. With multiple kits assembled, and multiple electric kits lining the wall, this room is one I could chill in for hours. They have a decent selection of acoustics. I personally wish they carried more Taylor guitars, but the selection isn't too shabby. I recently bought an amp from there and am completely satisfied. The staff is friendly and helpful as well. If I wasn't a measly college kid, I'd buy out the store's inventory lol
Andy and Damian were great. They were extremely helpful as a first time Martin guitar owner. They were patient and took the time to explain some of the science behind a good guitar. Highly recommend seeing these guys to help pick out / buy a new guitar! Thanks guys
This particular Guitar Center has more products and more knowledgeable people then the previous. The staff at this location is more knowledgeable and they have a variety of different products... and they don't try to set you up with something that you don't want.
I’ve been coming to this Guitar Center for a very long time (15 years) and I’ve bought all my guitars from here. The place is nice and clean, spacious for moving guitars around and for playing. The price I think is sometimes a little high but it depends what you’re getting, of course.
Actually, I bought my very first guitar here (a Fender Stratocaster) back in 2006 and I played Metallica on that. Then I bought a Fender acoustic and it played amazingly. I was a beginner back then, but I don’t play much anymore.
Anyway, I recommend this location. Friendly staff and various options to choose from.
One of the best aspects of my visit was being helped by the woker, Bryan. He produced a positive environment and i even saw him work with customers until they were all satisfied. He seems to take that extra step to help resolve any issues that unhappy customers may have.
They know me when I walk in. I can jam on the new keyboards without having to spend ANY MONEY! I love the staff who are all ready to help. The sales they have let me buy my equipment at affordable prices. The pro-coverage allows me to have complete assurance that if my equipment is damaged i can get it fixed no questions asked. Great place. <3
Definitely my go too place when shopping for instruments. As a music major sometimes you need to buy some drum sticks or buy a new bass guitar. This is a one stop place to get everything! Staff are very knowledgeable and kind. There is a wide variety of prices, so whether you are looking for a $50 dollar guitar or a $500 dollar guitar, this is the place! You can park in the home depot parking lot, and yes there is ticket validation.
Come here often for purchases and repairs. Most recently I got the bridge replace on an acoustic and they did a fantastic job. The staff are always very helpful when looking to purchase things as well.
I take lessons here because it's real close to my house both of my teachers have been fantastic and the experience has been great. The "getting help" and "buying things" aspects depends on who is there: sometimes I've waited ten to fifteen minutes for someone to help and when they do they're fairly unhelpful, other times there's one person who just sits with me and talks about everything I want to do and how best to do it. In particular, for two larger purchases, the employee (I'm not sure if I can post names, etc., so I'll keep it anonymous) went above-and-beyond to help me get the best possible deal on the stuff I wanted better than the Amazon price, even!
Loses one star for some of the staff some of the time, but the other staff members know what they're talking about and care about helping musicians or aspiring musicians get what they need. Highly recommend. Just don't be that guy who goes there every day playing a bad version of "Smoke On the Water" as loud as you can in the main room for an hour.
Wow. Expert service and excellently curated products. Everyone at this store, from the greeter at the door to the sales staff to the trainers are exceptional. They are very knowledgeable, sincere and always recommend products within your price-range. They have experts in every area to help you with your needs.
I have been getting my stuff from Guitar Center for a long time. they have very good technician recently upgraded my guitar they did the work for me excellent work very happy. very knowledgeable employees friendly
Best Guitar Center ive been too for electronic music production . has a very helpful staff with a great product selection. Used equipment is well priced and they have some rare stuff come through. Simply love it.
David is an ASTOUNDINGLY gifted Luthier! My Bass is truly happy again; I’m also delighted with the knowledge & professionalism of Chloe & Garret-😊 …
Great selection of guitars and fast friendly service!
They have musical equipment, My recent return was without hassle! Also; they have music equipment. No it’s not Amazon, it’s a building that has things in it you can buy. It’s just like prime; you get it the same day. They have the things that make the noises come out of your car stereo.
My 5-year-old and I had so much fun shopping for his first guitar at Guitar Center on Halsted yesterday. Everyone was so nice to him and took awesome care of us. They found him the PERFECT guitar to get him started!! He hasn't stopped playing it since we left the store. Being a non-musician myself, it's great to know that there is a place I can get help when needed. Geoffrey in particular was super helpful and conscientious enough to show us a good tuner and pics so my son has everything he needs. I imagine we will be back for a starter drum set soon!!
Smaller GC store than most. Not as much inventory or selection for either new or even used guitars. Having said that, you never know when a gem of a guitar (or instrument) happens to be ordered into the store. Or someone just may sell a special piece of equipment you may be looking for. It's for this very reason I love stopping by music stores. Also always a potential for meeting someone, be it a future band mate or someone who has experience with something you may be unfamiliar with.
Amazing guitars, great selection, staff is very nice. I asked them where I should put a pick I was using at the end of my visit and they said I could have it. Perfect!
I like going to guitar center and trying out equipment before I start looking around on the web for better prices. They'll price match on new stuff. Once in a while you find a gem in their used collection. The 40yr-old+ employee that works the strings and accessories counter is kinda snobby, especially for being 40+yrs old and working at GC... but if you can look past the occasional unmotivated employee, the place is great!
Staff is nice, except for the manager. I asked him if he had heavy picks for my bass and told me to use my fingers! But they let me play guitars I will never afford for hours so can't complain.
My purchases I picked up from here (fender jazz bass special natural mim and a Yamaha acoustic) were on sale and serve me well. I've traded in a 6 month old bass in good condition here, which I bought back then for $200 and goes for $100 used on their website. I got $65 for it in cash. They WILL give you cash! I called ahead to make sure they would, and they said they only offer store credit. To my surprise (after some negotiation on the value), I was handed my cash! Gtk.
Tl;dr: definitely a buy!
Poor customer service overall. Tried finding someone for over 30 min (and the store was empty) to get a guitar, with no luck. Ended up getting a couple picks and it still took me another 10 min to go through the cashier (i was next in line). Bad experience overall.
I love that the workers say hello when you walk in, but then give you some space. Some times when I go there I want to run in and run out, but other times I like to just check out whats new, whats on sale and I appreciate that some guy is not breathing down my neck.
They have like everything you could want, and the prices always seem as good as anywhere I find online.I love being able to try a keyboard out before buying it.
Parking lot is dark and a little confusing. Staff at guitar center is awesome. Friendly, good vibes, super complete in terms of variety of gear.
Great experience. Bought a beautiful used Gibson Hummingbird and service was awesome, price was very competitive. Thanks Ryan for helping me to finally get my dream guitar!!! Great job!
st Guitar Center ive been too for electronic music production . has a very helpful staff with a great product selection. Used equipment is well priced and they have some rare stuff come through. Simply love it.
The people were super helpful in helping me to get more information on a new guitar. All in all definitely coming back here!
Very friendly staff and help you with what you're looking for
What I like about this place is that it's huge and very organized - everything is where it's supposed to be. The only thing that prevented me from giving this place 5 stars is the lack of stuff this location posts on the store's website (I had difficulty finding an used guitar - which I found one I liked at the Bedford Park location instead of the Lincoln Park). Otherwise, I'd recommend going to this location.
Staff was helpful. Lots to look at.
I think they did a good enough job with the covid situation. There was adequate spacing and a very well thought out and executed plan to address the issues pertaining to why and how they are open during phase 3. Well done.
I needed help finding various adapters and cords for my DJ controller. The employee who helped me was very nice and helpful.
The staff here are some of the most friendly and knowledgeable that I've encountered. I've been extremely satisfied with my experience every time I've visited this Guitar Center.
Ryan, the guitar tech is amazing. I found a gorgeous guitar but it was pretty beat up. Ryan dug the strings out of the body and put in a whole new setup. Now it sounds as great as it looks.
I started out as a beginning guitar player, and find the staff helpful, knowledgeable and well-staffed. Non-musicians may find the near-constant cacophony irritating, but who who would browse this store except a musician?
I've been going to this store ever since I was 18 yrs old! They are so helpful & reliable on which product is the best option in saving alot of money!
Purchased my first guitar here and Trent was super helpful and selling me the right guitar and accessories at an afforable price. I am super happy with the purchase and I will definitely go back for guitar lessons.
The staff was very friendly and just let us go and do our thing, very happy with the experience 10/10 would go again.
Guitar Center is always a fun place to golf you like or enjoy playing instruments but this time around we were somewhat disappointed that we didn't find what we went looking for
In my experience, a trip to this Guitar Center is very 'hit or miss.' Sometimes I find what I want and work with an associate who is knowledgeable and actually trying to help me; sometimes I get a male associate who is condescending and manipulative. I typically avoid coming here; but on the flip side, when I do show up, I'm often pleasantly surprised. So: mixed bag.
Everyone is always so helpful here. The selection is wonderful. Even as a professional musician they almost always Have exactly what I need. The guitar techs are amazing... everything you could want.
They got so many gahtahs
This guitar center is actually really helpful. When I came to purchase recording equipment, and some other stuff, one of the people (calls himself groov jones on facebook) was very knowledgeable as to the technical aspects of the recording interfaces, and helped me understand the difference between the different models.
Also, I came in here once after my phone died, and they let me use their phones to make some calls. The people who work here are very friendly, there's no attitude, and it's really just a fun place to come and try out different amps/instruments.
I'll definitely be back due to the good service, selection, and overall good experience I've had here.
Good musical instruments store with a lot of options and a nice environment where you can pick what you want to play an play. But they will only find the mainstream stuff, if you're looking for something more specific / less popular you won't find it here.
First time to guitar center, and I was in a bind. Best Buy, Home Depot didnt have what I needed (in wall 14 awg cl2 speaker wire for a client's sound system repair). Guy from North Ave. Home Depot said, try Guitar Center. So I went here, and called om the way. Alex from Audio was excellent. The most knowledgable person about speakers and amps I have met in my search. He had a 12 awg wire he reccomended due to increased performance and reliability (great for the dance studio i will be using it in). Great price too, and sold by the foot. Will definitely come back for all my audio needs and my clients' audio needs, henceforth. Wish I would have found it sooner, would have saved all sorts of running around.
Went there yesterday to buy a bass. There wasn't enough staff to help, but when I got help, it was amazing. All thanks to Christian who guided me through it and got my back :) also, I need to thank the technician guy, who setup my bass for free (even though it was just a starter bass). Thank you so much technician guy and sorry if I was being a little bit pushy. PS: I've been playing bass for 17 years, and I'm used to playing a 5 string Ibanez BTB bass. That being said, I was on a limited budget, and wanted to buy a 4 string bass to experiment with. Thank you guitar center, you were and always are great. If the technician guy, or anyone who knows him, sees this review, then please send him my apologies :)
The guitar collection is great. 4 stars coz the staff wasn't really around to help that much.
Good collection of instruments and they let you try whatever you want for as long as you want. But I've seen many times that the staff is not there to answer your questions and you have to wait a lot to get things moving even if the store is virtually empty
This place was awesome! They have several rooms full of different instruments and you can try them all you want. The people working there are really nice too. I had so much fun!
One of my best experiencesI went with my daughter needed to fix her guitar for school he said that unfortunately the guitar I had was not the greatest looked around for me help me find one with a real good price unbelievable customer service his name was Dave he works in the repair shop
as long as you know exactly what you want... you go in, get it, buy it, and walk out you won't really notice all that is complained about below. Hey... these guys cut their prices so low that their employees get paid hardly anything. So go easy on them. I've been shopping guitar center for 15 years now. I know what to expect. Oh... and Newton... that guy who does the drum shop at Andy's is kind of an a-hole too. I've seen him be way more mean to other customers than of any i've seen at GC.
First off, let me start by saying, I actually like guitar center. The selection extensive, and the staff helpful. I was going to trade in an amplifier and take advantage of their 15% off with trade in offer. Until I read the exclusions. I can't find anything they carry that isn't excluded. Here is the disclaimer from their web site:

I’ve been taking drum lessons at this Guitar Center with Mike McCulloch for the last three months, and it’s been a great experience since day 1. I didn’t know anything about drums or music theory going in, but Mike made sure we spent some time going over the basics of drum terminology and counting, as well as answering any questions I had right off the bat. He also continually makes sure we’re working on what I want to be working on, including incorporating some of my favorite music into our lessons. I had taken guitar lessons many years back, and back then I had never found instructors that cared enough to help me learn what I wanted to learn. With Mike, I feel that I have a great balance of learning theory, and directly applying that theory to music that I love. I’ve progressed so much more than I thought I would have in just a few months. If anyone is looking to get into drum lessons, I couldn’t recommend Mike enough, and I’m looking forward to continually taking lessons with him at Guitar Center!
I used to go here a lot with my grandfather and the staff there are always happy to assist in any music inquiry or advice and in my experience it's always been great.
Pretty decent selection despite the ongoing dip in business. I tried a few Meinl cymbals, and was more than happy with the service and choice in kits to play.
Came in looking for rack rails. They do carry them but they were out of stock. The sales associates helped me find another guitar center close by that had what I needed.
Nice folks here - very helpful. Free parking too which is huge. One note though - take the steps from parking. The elevator is down frequently and smells like it has been used for... other purposes.
Typical pressure sales to get you to buy more stuff. Decent selection, but maybe a little cramped in the store.
Pressure sale is for the warranty these days.
I love this place everything you need they have sale every day
I will see u soon
Guitar center on Halsted has a great selection when it comes especially when it comes to musical equipment the staff at theis location is very helpful. The only time that I did not find what I was looking for was when I was in serach for a House Of Marley sound dock which I was told that they should carry but I later found out that they are usually sold in the California locations and other locations but the one that I was at.
A place to buy musical instruments and instructors to tell you what you may need for your next assignment where event Guitar Center I visit there maybe twice a month get the latest gear for my guitar.
The costumer care was great..it is a great location, free parking, it was a very nice place... they can ask any questions that you may need...
Took my electric guitar in to the repair shop for a setup and not only did they do it super fast but it was also very well done. I will be back next time I need it again.
Good store and helpful staff. Right down the block from the if the best music clubs in the city too. So if you see a great show, you can go down the street and treat yo self!
Helpful staff! Also this location has way more stuff than the others throughout, definitely worth the drive. They also have parking
The musicians dream! Even those who aren't much into music can't deny how cool and inspiring this place is. Feel free to try any instrument out, and pick yourself one while your there! It's never too late to tend to your creative side.
The guitars are mostly arranged around the edges. The center part is for the amps and the people looking at the guitars and playing those guitars through the amps. Still, I suppose Center rolls off the tongue more easily than all that.
It's the place to go for musicians. Just be aware that you may have to wait outside if there are many customers. We waited about 19 minutes.
Love the holiday sales they have on various equipment!
It doesn't matter if you are professional on music or not. This is the place that you can find what you want in music! There is free parking with validation as well.
Just went to return a gig bag which I bought out of state as it would not fit. Quick in quick out, nonsense. Courteous cheerful people in the store. Thanks guitar center.
Dave was so helpful! Especially, with me being a beginner and answered all my questions. Ended up buying a 60’s jazzmaster!
Dan is a real great guy! This company is cool too
Loud, polluted with random want to be rock stars. If you want to buy a guitar and be able to hear what you might buy, go to the guitar center in Deerfield. I only come to this one for small ticket items, strings and picks.
The employee helped me find the exact strings to produce the exact sound I wanted from my guitar. Very happy
Awesome place ! Was there with a friend who was returning something was no hassle for her : they made it simple. Meanwhile I looked around -wow! Chicago location ...."Rock & Roll! Baby!"
My reason for going was an audio/ turntable pre-amp & they were out of stock. The store is still very cool!
I love this store. I bought all my gears in this store some used some new but always had a good deal. Not sure how someone can write bad review for this store...
I had a great experience everyone was so friendly. The employee that helped me was so knowledgeable I recommend everyone to shop here.
Really appreciated Trent's help and expertise in helping my son with his very first guitar purchase. Patient and helpful.
Great place to shop for all your pro audio equipment and instruments etc!!😎💪💯just recently grabbed a mic stand, shock mount, focusrite scarlett solo 2nd gen, and 15' xlr cable!😎 very affordable and great quality brands!😎😊💪💯 …
Customer service so great. Take ur time to get the best, they will always guide u if u need them. I feel at home here
Ashley helped us resolve an issue with our Fender Strat guitar. Amazing service and location!
Never had a problem at this guitar center. Always helps me find what I need and then some!
The guys at Guitar Center were great, and even though the product I wanted to buy wasn't there, they shipped it to me in 1 working day.
I’m not a fan of GC. As an audio professional, I dread having to run in here to grab something last minute. Was in Chicago because the artist I work for was performing at slime fest. One of the local crew guys stepped on one of my custom cables and was forced to run here to grab some back ups. The audio department guys all talk to you and treat you like you know nothing and their arrogance is annoying. You work at GC. Get over yourself.
Though I knew exactly what I wanted the salesppl helped me zero in on some XLR to RCA cables, cost ~ $20 braided.
I bought some iron maiden pickups which are awesome for playing my guitar. I recommend this place for buying instruments.
Great sales! I spent over 400.00 there in just 2 days but very well worth it. Quick service & helpful kind employees!
Lots o' guitars and drums. The folks there were helpful, but not overly knowledgable regarding my specific question. I was looking for a telecaster with a belly cut.
Amazing place to check out for almost everything music related! Very big rec to check out if you're driving around halsted.
Best library of guitars I have ever seen!!! Nice employees, awesome effects pedals, there drumpads will have you breaking beats for hours! :D
They are always there when you need them.
Helpful and to the point staff who helped me get exactly what I need without being pushy. Store clean, organized, and following CDC guidelines.
Best Guitar Center I've ever been to. Super helpful in every section I was in. No egos; Just music/gear lovers.
Just ask for a manager and you should b good if you got questions. Popular location so stock be pow often.
Very overpriced. They did have what i needed but I felt like l overpaid for everything. If I wasnt in a jam w a show I could have gotten the parts I needed for half the price.
I had bought a microphone recently and needed to use it with my PC. They not only told me what I needed, but sold me products at a fair price.
The customer service was very good! They knew their product. Good selection of guitars and accessories.
Great staff! Super helpful and fun! Deals are great when stuff is on sale. Honestly good place to pass time.
James “jimmy” Bennington is a legend!
He inspired my son Eddy (12 years old) in Drums with his weekly lessons and is the most passionate and engaged teacher you could ever meet, I looked forward to watching Eddy learn and progress with Jimmy. I have never met a teacher in any field as effective and genuinely motivating as Jimmy. I recommend Jimmy and the guitar Centre to everyone I meet ( and I never give reviews for anyone!)
Thank you Jimmy, thank you to the team at the halstead Guitar Centre Chicago - you are exceptional and I thank you. David and Eddy Pitron
Staff was super helpful and let you play on live instruments until your little heart is content! Even have a guitar lounge if you want to strum and chill.
Got a nice Christmas guitar for hubby and he is so happy. Great value. Was a used one but great quality
service is always stellar! never a disappointment and i always find exactly what i need. love this place!
Got a fairly good deal on a cymbal, but did not have a music stand...😞 …
Good but not great, prices a bit high but not real bad. Chicago Guitar exchange is the better option
Whatever you need in hard to find music parts or just want to play instrument in the store or add to your personal eguipment. They will work with you.
Awesome!!!
Great customer service
Nick was great. Lots of selections. No bad to experience till now. Definitely a place to check in.
The young man manning the sound dept did a great job. Super attentive during a very busy time and literally running around to help customers.
First time in very impressive tons of guitars all shapes and sizes good helpful staff im going back
Well it has the name Guitar Center don't expect other instruments as Trumpets.. don't bother going just order it online. Thank me later.
Guitar techs are the best I’ve found in Chicago. The store has something for every level of musician.
Great bunch of guys. They're all super knowledgeable. Dave set up my guitar and it sounds seriously amazing. Thanks a lot!!!
Great staff , really helpful .I went with my son to buy a ukulele, and came out really happy with our purchase.. Thanks cristian, keep up to Good Work.
Friendly, no nonsense, knowledgeable staff. Competitive pricing. Had an excellent buying experience, thanks Todd👍 …
Very helpful and friendly staff.
In the age of online, we still need places to visit for expert advice and hands on demos, especially with this type of product. They always treat me well.
Very friendly staff
The staff was friendly & helpful. Unfortunately, the item I had brought back to exchange was no longer in stock so I was unable to purchase what I wanted.
I've learned to have back up items, just in case you need them. So I purchased guitar strings.
The staff was really helpful, not to mention the awesome selection of guitars. I would buy one of them if I could afford them.
A good place to find cheap used gear or if you need to get rid of something fast you can sell it here
Nice staff. I always find what I need here. And the guitar repair guy is really nice. Forgot his name tho.
This place is great. Always knowledgable and helpful. I have been going here for 3 years now and never have I been treated bad nor gotten bad advice.
Really helpful staff, great selection of great. Alvarez has an acoustic baritone for 400 here.
Free parking garage and all the same stock as other Guitar Centers. Can't be beat.
I went here to buy my first guitar, the staff was awesome, they help me out picking the right guitar and I love my new guitar I totally recommend this place
Amazing customer service and nice prices, along with good quality of their inventory!!!
Good customer service
Price in store can be a bit more than online but the staff is great, friendly, and always willing to match a price you show them (from any 'reputable site').
Good store, good staff, good used items
They have great tuners and are affordable. Not only is this a guiter center but you can get other various objects there for different kinds of intruments.
Helpful staff has helped me purchase two of my guitars as a relative newbie.
Very nice customer service there, always somebody there to help you out with any questions you have
One of the largest and most beautiful guitar stores and accessories for other instruments.
Free parking
Excellent costumer service
Great customer service, Todd was great a help for selection of amplifier and speakers, lots of systems to be explored.
Great selection of otherwise hard-to-find music and related gear. Prices could be better, but convenience is worth the surcharge.
Great selection. Stop in and try before you buy. Friendly and helpful sales staff.
Very helpful and cashier helped us save money. Have been back every Time I'm in town.
It's a guitar center. Pro: lots of shiny noisy stuff that you want to touch. Con: see the pro. Good staff!
I play guitar so this is where I go plus theres so many options it being a bigger store in the city. Love the vinyls aswell
Very friendly staff.
Clean and ordered equipment ready for test.
Recommend to visit prior to other locations.
Its the Guitar Center. FYI, they have some kind of deal with Pioneer to not have NI stuff on display. Kinda lame.
Nice store, lots of equipment and knowledgeable staffs.
Staff is currently pretty knowledgeable. Clean store and wide variety of instruments to accessories... and everything in between
Big selection, easy place to kill time. Employees seem mostly knowledgeable, but they tend to be understaffed if it's any kind of busy.
Came here to purchase the pioneer Dj-400 the staff member at that particular section was very helpful.
Great service and the people working here know their stuff
Customer service was helpful, helped me pick a guitar perfect for me!
The guy helped me with tuning my guitar. Even the store was really big
i came here looking for a new boss tuner. great staff, nice and friendly.
i go there for all my music needs
Always friendly and attentive people.
I know Guitar Center normally gets a bad rap however my experiences at this Guitar Center thus far have been good
Folks were helpful!
Huge selection of guitars and audio electronics. Competent service.
The guy in the drum department rocked again! Introduced me to the reality of the Velcro drum pad, I'm stoked!
pretty popular which means you might have to wait to be helped but usually quite helpful and chatty employees will take time to help you
One of my favorite places to spend my free days looking for ideas or instruments the staff is sometimes upset but It’s a nice place!
Always great customer service & all my music needs.....
They're always good to me, the way they handle their customers is the best.
Best guitar center I've been to thus far. Felt like another store altogether
Fantastic place. Dave and Ryan are pro guitar techs. My GC 🤠👍 …
A great shop with all your musical needs. It's pretty complete in terms of instruments and accessories.
Always fun to try and buy. Not the best prices nor selection but has parking
it's guitar center...
a bit nicer than the one in Arlington Heights even if it seems smaller
Very welcoming and helpful staff and actually got what I needed.. Visiting again soon..
Service is generally good but now they frisk everyone coming in because a few guitars got nicked
Knowledgeable staff, great selection. Just fun to be inside even if you aren't buying anything.
Love the expert help and guitar repair Dave was great
I had to travel all the way from South side to the North side to find one small piece seemed like this was the only place in Chicago that had it
Has a huge collection of guitars and bass guitars and drums and whatnot. But the staff isn't very responsive at times so you have to wait to get your turn
Except the person at the front desk all others are very professional and I like the ‘Guitar Doctor’ a lot. Thanks for his help.
The employees were very helpful and knowledgeable, not my first visit and definitely not my last
Loved it. Great staff. A HUGE variety for anything a musician will need.
Great place to find gear. Friendly and helpful staff.
Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Great place to buy strings and equipment.
Had some issues with an opened box item, but they were quick to fix.

There is something about the way the guys who work at Guitar Center behave that makes you feel like a schmuck for simply walking in.
My best friend got his amp and guitar here. He then got it signed by Bruce Springsteen and his crew!
A big thanks to the very helpful sales associate, Andy, who helped place my order and deliver it in time for Christmas.

They got some good stuff here for musicians but it is just ridiculously overpriced.
