Pure Pop Records is a small independent record store at the intersection of College Street and South Winooski Avenue since 1981. They still carry cassette tapes, compact discs and vinyl records from almost every musical genres you can think of. If you don't see what you're looking for, don't go to online retailers yet. Just call or visit the store and they usually can special order it for you and you can pick it up in store in a few days as long as the item is still in print. They now offer online pre-orders on select new releases and you can pick up in store. They do participate in Record Store Day when exclusive limited edition releases hit the shelves.

The real deal when it comes to digging in a basement for rarities. It's hard to knock 'em for being cluttered, and a bit musty because that's the whole point. An authentic experience with no fabrication! I found several things I was looking for over the years and a few others I didn't know what I wanted, which is usually how music stores go. You never know what you'll find!

We are lucky enough to have a number of awesome record stores here in Burlington and pure pop is definitely on that list. As the name suggests, this is where I go to check out new releases and popular music. From those harder to find 90s alternative albums from my childhood to the just released indie/hip hop/or whatever you’re into. They have a huge selection and knowledgeable, helpful staff. Don’t be the person who buys records at urban outfitters or Amazon. Head into this awesome little basement and flip through the stacks. You’ll be glad you did.

This place has been around forever. I used to visit a lot in the 90's and 2000's when I lived in VT. That said, it's still a little old-school "dungeon" style shop. Kinda tight quarters, but a fairly large inventory of both CD's and LP's. Basically the store is split with one side of the cashwrap featuring predominantly new/used CD's, and the other side mostly new vinyl. Sadly, their vintage/used vinyl selection is very sparse. There's only 1 bin of pre-owned vinyl and it's usually quite picked over and sad looking whenever I'm there. The vinyl selection is almost entirely modern reissues and newer releases, so if that is what you are looking for than this is the place to go because they will likely have what you are seeking. There are thousands of new LP's to choose from in a wide variety of genres. They have hundreds of CD's and some cassettes as well, in fact I would say they have the largest selection of CD's in all of Burlington. So again, if CD is your preferred physical medium, then Purepop is your place. They often have "bargain" CD's available too, which is actually my favorite section of the store (3 CD's for $5!). Prices overall seem consistent with the current market, tho I imagine you could find many of these new titles online for less. But the important thing is to support local/small businesses whenever possible!

This is my favorite record store and that's not just because I'm from across the lake and there's barely any options over there (although that's true). They have a great selection of new and used, great staff and a convenient website/app where you can order/pre-order and have items shipped if need be. I'd say the only gripe is the parking situation, or lack thereof, but that's not their fault.

This is a great record store! Nice mix of CD, Vinyl and Cassette selections. Very knowledgeable staff who is happy to make recommendations. A local institution since 1981, hope they are around for a long time yet.

We’ve come here on two trips to Burlington, and this has become a favorite record store. We clean up with 10 records each time, and we always find albums we’ve been looking for. There is always a well-stocked collection here of new albums, and searching it is a blast. If you are near Burlington looking for records, hit up Pure Pop.

I spent 150 dollars on records here and I am happy with what I got for the most part. They were a gift for someone else and I didn’t end up wanting two of them, I wasn’t able to return them for my money back even though the plastic was still on both. They only would do store credit which I don’t need. Wish they had a sign up saying sale are final or for store credit.

I've been a customer for over 25 years. Mike is outstanding and the selection is insane! I could spend a day at Pure Pop just looking at the selection of what they stock normally! The bargin bins is a must see every visit too.
Today, I went and picked up a Black Angels cd I didn't have. And, in one of the bargain bins was a CD of the original War Of The Worlds by Orsen Wells!! Not many record stores have THAT in stock let alone in a bargain bin!I I'm a huge fan of Pure Pop, obviously. I kind of want anyone that reads this to go and check it out, OR don't go and just take my word for it! I want to keep it secret, it's that good. So yeah, definitely go!
Poisoned Pens
Decent selection for more mainstream rock and local type things and some nice metal vinyl but could use a boost in the punk/hardcore genres. Prices on new vinyl pretty much on point, although it's a little confusing as to what the various discount markings are...

I can't believe this is STILL THERE - Octavian can't still be there too? Anyway lived there in 1990s and now taking my daughter to look at UVM - and she loves LPs - this will be a trip to take her there! Hope your open on Mondays...

Went to FYE looking for the new Offspring album. They didn't even have it in their system. Employee recommended Pure Pop. Sure enough, they actually had the album in stock. The place seemed a little sketchy and the employee was pretty quiet and seemed bored, but they had what I was looking for when the chain store nearby did not. I'll be using them for my music purchases from now on.
Anna M
Cool selection and very reasonable prices for vinyl.

Very good record and CD store. That being said the record are stored a little slanted. I had no issues, but this can lead to warping in the long run. All together, great place that I will go back to.

Very friendly staff members. Didn't purchase anything though because I didn't find anything I was interested in and things seemed a bit pricey.

A very niche' record store, if you have the money and a inkling of what you want chances are they won't have it but have something similar, thanks to the guys here thou I've discovered several bands that I now love

I live in Montreal where we have several great record shops - still I've been shopping at Pure Pop Records since the 1980s. I've made some amazing finds there such as Exit Planet Dust by The Chemical Brothers on vinyl for under $20. Many times I've found exactly what I was looking for and for less than Discogs.
