Paul is an extremely knowledgeable and experienced luthier who knows his craft and truly cares about instruments. I was having issues with the bridge and overall setup on my violin. Paul not only was able to help me set up a new bridge but also shaped the fingerboard to match the curvature of the bridge. The delicate changes he made to my violin has made a huge impact on my comfort and ease of playing. I am really grateful to have Paul working on my violin and highly recommend Paul as a luthier.

Paul is my go-to luthier for any and all work I need done on my violin or viola. He has an amazing depth of understanding of factors that affect the sound snd playability of the instruments, and every recommendation he has made has resulted in noticeable improvements in the sound of my instruments. He is also more candid than other luthiers I’ve worked with about recommending against spending money needlessly.
Most recently, I asked him for recommendations to improve the ergonomics of my 16.5 inch viola. He cut a new bridge that made the instrument more playable and greatly improved the sound in the process. (This was no mean feat because the viola already had a great sound to begin with.)

The perfect one-stop shop for all your violin, viola & cello repairs, appraisals & cool unique practice mutes! Paul Wiessmeyer is a true expert & master of his craft with decades of experience - he takes his work very seriously & always delivers repairs with the upmost care & attention to detail. I had a fantastic experience getting my old violin’s bridge straightened out, new strings & new hair for my bow all for a great price while supporting a wonderful small business. Paul is also very personable & a patient listener which I really appreciate. I recommend trying out his 3D printed patented practice mutes as well! I will definitely be back here for tune ups when needed! 🎻

I bought a nice violin from here. Paul offered me great service. He kindly showed me his violins and gave me very useful tips for beginners with interesting stories about violins. I held a violin he recommended and decided to buy it. When I revisited this store for string change, Paul friendly changed the string with a detailed explanation. I am so lucky this store is my close neighbor.

Paul did a wonderful job repairing my violin, and thankfully managed to fit me in on the same day. With many local shops booking repair appointments weeks to months in advance, it’s nice to find such an experienced luthier who makes the time to assist when it’s needed. He has a nice selection of accessories including handmade leather mutes which I’m super excited to try. Thanks for taking such great care of me today!

I have two kids who have been playing violin for a long time, and they have full sized advanced student violins (paid around $2000). We have had trouble finding places for occasional maintenance and repairs at a reasonable price. Many other locations I have tried did not accept our violins (they told me that they dealt with only professional quality violins) or they gave me very unreasonable prices to repair. When one of our violin’s bridge finally collapsed, I again called many places for it to be fixed. As expected I was given very high prices or told that they were not accepting until April. When I found Wiesmeyer VIolins and called, he was very easy to talk to and told me that I could bring it in for a repair estimate for $35, which would all go to the repair fee if I decided to use him. When I was able to bring it to him the following week, he studied the violin and gave me a few recommendations. What impressed me most was his honesty in giving me the option of him fixing its very warped bridge when he could have simply sold me a new bridge. He informed me that for my son’s violin, paying for a new bridge was not necessary. Within a week, he fixed the bridge, replaced his inadequate chin rest, and did other maintenance for a very reasonable price. I sincerely thank Mr. Wiessmeyer for doing a great professional job on my son’s violin and for patiently explaining repairs that were needed. I am very happy to have finally found a great violin shop!

I had a great experience having my violin repaired with Paul Wiessmeyer. Paul has an incredible amount of experience and can diagnose issues with sound right away and explains the issues clearly. Workmanship is top notch - it’s a pleasure to work with Paul and it sure beats being just one of many at the large suburban shops.

Paul graciously fit me in on < a week's notice for a violin checkup/ consultation and also was able to quickly fix an issue with my tail loop. I will be returning if I need work done in the future. Thank you!

I brought my violin to Paul for an adjustment after having taken it to other places for minor sound adjustments. None of the various adjustments I had had before really managed to make my violin sound to its full potential. So I decided to bite the bullet and to have Paul take a look at it. After hearing my violin, he was able to pin point the exact issues I was having (and how to deal with them) and worked to tailor the sound. After he was done with the instrument, I ended up with a more responsive and resonant violin. Plus he is super friendly and really cares about the work he does. I will definitely be going back in the future whenever possible.

One of the best experiences I've had with a violin shop. I had an emergency repair and Paul went out of his way to get it done within 24 hours so I could play at a very important gig. The service is always kind, the people that work there are all wonderful, and Paul is one of the most knowledgeable and informative luthiers I've met. I will definitely be coming back to Weissmeyer Violins for future repairs and rehairs!

Recently got a violin, and suspected the sound and playability could be improved. In about an hour, Paul did just that! As he put it, the instrument went from sounding like a nervous singer to one singing from the soul.
I have also brought my violin to him for repairs and maintenance a couple times, and he does a great job for a fair price. I highly recommend him.

I’m in love with my violin again!
I hadn’t been happy with the sound of the violin for years. I tried taking it to various violin shops in the area, but no one was able to bring the violin to its full potential.
I recently made an appointment with Paul because my pegs were sticking to the point where it had become almost impossible to tune the violin accurately. During the appointment Paul made some suggestions about trying different strings and making some changes to the setup, including a new tailpiece. The results are astounding! The sound is rich, clear and balanced. The peg work that Paul did makes it easy to tune precisely.
I also purchased a couple of mutes that Paul and his son designed and manufactured with a 3-D printer (a regular mute and practice mute). They provide a beautiful sound and they look great.

I brought my viola in to check for damage after an on-stage mishap, and had a wonderful experience with Paul. He worked with me in making sound post adjustments, and recommended additional upgrades to get the most out of my instrument. My viola sounds better than before and I will be back for more help from Paul in the future. Thanks for the great service!

Needed some strings for my cello a while back and was interested in changing up my choice of strings. Paul was very patient and helpful in explaining the differences between available string options and helped me to make the best choice for my needs.
Would absolutely recommend his store!

Needed some basic work done—rehair + seam closed on my cello. Paul was responsive, always on time, and got me sorted in a couple of days. Will definitely be my go-to for any future instrument repair needs. He also has some very cool 3D-printed mutes

Not sure about some of the one-star reviews here, particularly because they don't talk about their experience. I visited Paul for the first time a few days ago. He was very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Really enjoyed talking to him. Definitely recommend going to visit him for your string instrument needs.

I asked if the owner could mail the violin to me after I picked online, and then Paul drove all the way from Boston with his six violins just so I can play them myself and pick one by hearing it. That’s the most professional attitude I’ve ever experience, 5 stars is an understatement, I should give you 10 stars. Vielen Dank!

I got my violin appraisal today and I can tell that Mr. Wiessmeyer is a very knowledgeable luthier and also easy to communicate with. He introduced 3D mute to me and the color is stunning! P.S I really enjoy it after I practice at home with different mutes. Highly recommend this workshop to everyone and to my music friends!

When I had an accident at work with my viola, I knew I had to go see Paul Wiessmeyer. Not only is he an extremely skillful luthier, with years of experience, he is also very nice and empathic. Paul understands it is not easy when your instrument needs to be fixed. He listens and is thoughtful and honest in his assessment. As a music therapist, these are qualities that I highly appreciate.
I felt I needed to write this review, particularly after reading the one written by someone supposedly named Jay Ferguson today. I can't believe that review is real.

If you want an experienced luthier caring for your instrument this is the place to go Fred is a sweet and very knowledgeable man and because of his work my cello sounds better than it ever has. I learned so much about maintaining my instrument too that I couldn't have figured out besides talking with someone of his calibre. An amazing experience and I highly recommend others visit his shop!

I have been bringing my violin here for service for many years. I continue to do so due to great workmanship and excellent customer service. He introduced me to leather mutes (thank you!) and he is my equipment go-to supplier. The new space is great as well!

I have not been to Wiessmeyer's in many years, but will be visiting again soon as I resume playing. We used him for many years, to care for the family's cello, violin and viola. We had instruments evaluated for insurance, bought strings, rosin and a had a multitude of repairs. He is reliable, excellent, professional and a pleasure to deal with.

Paul was super nice and knowledgeable in things related to the violin. He was also very patient in finding a comfortable chin rest for me.
Leslie Azaret
An extremely knowledgable luthier, Paul was very helpful in my search for a cello. I highly recommend calling or stopping by his shop. You will be glad.
Roberto Henriquez
The new 3D mutes made with plastic are amazing! (same design as the leather mute, which are a great invention too, allowing the instrument to produce overtones yet in a soft dinamic, something that you dont get with the rubber mutes or others in the market) The new place is great!
Gail Coleman
I had neglected my cello for too many years and Paul Wiessmeyer effectively brought it back to life! I highly recommend his services!
Jeffrey Hollocher
All I needed was a practice mute, but I received the warmest experience from phone call to shop exit. These guys really care about their craft and their customers!

I deleted my review; obviously I referring to some other place. Sorry for the error. In fact I did not enter Wiessmeyer Violins LLC at all. I was at a nearby bar.
