Derek is a super rad owner with helpful kiddos and an incredibly clean and organized store. I’ve seen numerous vinyls here that I haven’t found elsewhere, one of them being a tricky to find “Channel Orange” by Frank Ocean. We had a nice discussion about that record’s rarity, it’s amazing price, and where it came from. It turned out to be a very cherished gift for my partner and I’m thankful. More like 10/10.

I'm old. Yes, I admit it. I grew up listening to cassettes and LPs. With age comes nostalgia so after buying a turntable, I was very happy to see there was a store still catering to "analog" music. It's a small place, but packed & with a friendly & knowledgeable staff, chances are you'll find what you're looking for—although I do wish they had more Blues records. Good prices as well. 5 stars.

A fantastic music store! If you are a record collector, this is the place for you. They've got a great mix of music there that is well curated. It is nice to be able to thumb through about one or two crates and hit the mother lode of records within that span of time. Plus they are next door to a great mix of other wonderful local businesses. Lots of record players around to hear the records you are interested in buying. Super friendly staff that deeply care about music.

Fantastic Record Store. A fantastic selection of albums for every genre you can imagine. The owner, Derek, is a really nice guy and knows everything there is to know about music. I suggest anybody who has not been there goes immediately. It's not corporate like The Record Exchange. It feels like a record store actually should.

Hands down, the best record store in all of Boise!! Small, clean, great selection! Derek is very knowledgeable in vinyl and all music in general. Great prices, no other store is even close in pricing. Quality of vinyl is excellent. All records come in plastic sleeves.Check it out, you won't be disappointed!!!

Derek has done a most excellent job in his endeavor and I am proud to know him. He takes extreme pride and holds no prejudice in his inventory, hence there are always a few gems that you will unexpectedly find in stock. He has a keen sense of musicology and is sensible in how he doles it out to patrons in a comforting and non-abrasive fashion. It is obvious that his love for music has been a lifelong friendship. Whether you are a local or an out-of-towner...this is a MUST stop while in Boise.

I have been visiting pretty regularly atleast every other week since they opened. As someone who is new to vinyl, my experience at Modern Sound has been nothing but positive. Extremely knowledgeable staff and the best part is they want to share that knowledge. Whether it is about musicians I never knew about, suggested listens, suggestions on equipment (which they have as well!), or the difference between different types of presses. They know it all and are extremely personable about sharing their knowledge. The make records store feel like a cool hang out experience again!!!

The owner was SUPER friendly and hospitible. They not only had a killer sale going on but all their were relevant and at the very least fun and nostalgic to browse through . I heard the owner to at least 2 different time trade cards with people so he could help track a rare/obscure record fo them. Definitely a place worth patronizing.

Hands down the beat record store in the Boise area. The shop owner is super friendly and extremely knowledgeable. This is a true record store and if you collect vinyl it’s a must stop if you’re in the area!

Awesome record store. Been here several times, not looking for anything specific. I always walk out with something, Czarface, A Tribe Called Quest, Venom, Iron maiden, you name it, and ask if they can get something you don't see. Awesome selection for metal and hip-hop heads (they have other great music too)

It's so good to have a neighborhood record store that has a really good selection and a staff that is friendly and knowledgable. You can just tell that it is their passion, it's why they do it. This has become my go to place. I will be here on record store day because this is my record store.

I love this place, because there is a 2 dollar record section that has a great selection. Where I could pay for the same album on discogs for ten bucks I can get it here for two. The guy that works the front desk is very helpful and will tell you what your looking for.
