Support this shop y'all! It's an open, quiet space that's easy to navigate and loaded with charm. Reminds me of some landmark record shops I've visited in NYC and Chicago, where the stacks are packed with both recognizable and underground picks and are hallmarks of authentic record appreciation. I had no trouble finding what I wanted and the owner, a super knowledgeable and friendly guy, even offered to play records I was interested in while I browsed. This will be a regular haunt for me.

The only record store in America Crass Lips Records finds worthy and weird enough for our entire bootleg collection of America's strangest!! Owner has collected seriously the coolest records made in the last 30 years.

Jason is a genuinely good and amazing human and extremely knowledgeable about… 🤔 the universe… and definitely music. Idk been four years since I was there last and that was when the store was still in Hampden. Occasionally I have dreams where I’m back in Baltimore walking through Hampden and it collides with other places I’ve been to so not exactly like Hampden. Anyway, when I’m dreaming about being there I stop by the True Vine and it’s in a new building that has two floors… I go and sit down on a couch on the first floor and usually ask if Jason’s in the store, but every time he’s out of town…
Crass Lips
Come to True Vine for the largest & most up-to-date collection of Crass Lips tapes forever :) So many talented locals here.
The Chodeman
This is hands down the best record store in the country. They have a huge selection of genres, including the most diverse selection of experimental and independent music I've ever seen. They carry a lot of releases by great Baltimore bands too. Jason and Dave are also friendly people and talented musicians. They've got records, cassettes, CDs/CDrs, anything you could imagine. I come here every time I'm in Baltimore and have consigned some of my own tapes here.

What an amazing experience. I was enthralled by the shop on my visit to Baltimore, and I've made a few puchases by mail since then. Owner is so knowledgeable and passionate, it seems like he's actually listened to every record in his shop, and he's got interesting back stories behind many of them. He stands by what he sells with passion. It's like a farmer's market for music.

This guy has a lot of great records. The hours can be hit or miss but it's a really small operation. I've always managed to buy 3 albums every time I've been there. And always want to buy more

The true vine is my favorite record shop in baltimore & one of my favorites ever. Almost every time i walk through the door something amazing that i've never heard before is playing on their stereo. They stock a lot of familiar titles but the level of discovering something unfamiliar there is giant. I've spent many hours there & i still feel like i just scratched the surface. Everyone who works there is a musician & passionate about music. the last time i was there i sat near the desk listening to the music & the owner made me a coffee! awesome shop.

I will generally say that this store was my favorite place in Hampden if not all of Baltimore. Bring the fam, bring the kids, they should have an evocative early childhood introduction to music that they will likely never hear anywhere else.
The world presents us with opportunities to learn from places and people we happen to stumble across, and the True Vine is open to anyone who is willing to listen.

One can find very obscure music here... very interesting store!

This place rulez! I've picked a ton of Obscure Experimental/Noise LPS there since they opened at their new location a few months ago. Taking advantage of consigned personal collections by the likes of Heresee and other Baltimore heads. Most of the the titles I've picked up are from the 2000-2010 American Noise scene, and are an average of $5-$7 a pop.

This is an excellent record store, specializing in vinyl, though there is a good CD section as well. It is a place for the record loving community...with an emphasis (though not an exclusiveness) on unusual music, whether that means statistically unusual for an American record store (there are African, Malaysian, Sudanese, French, Indonesian records here, not reissues, the genuine article), or musically un-usual (there is noise, musique concrete, "20th century" experimental composition, etc) as well as more normal things... Led Zeppelin, Bobby Brown, Little Feat, Baltimore Club, Hardcore, Zydeco, "Early Music", Baroque music, horrible 80's 12"s, etc.
So, for Matthew, my fellow reviewer, does anyone in the 21st Century actually say things like, "high on marijuana cigarettes"?! It's a RECORD STORE, you putz! It's not a Christian Science Reading Room!
The people who work there are, in my experience, super sweet, knowledgeable, friendly folks. I *have* noticed that people bring a lot of "trips" with them to record stores, afraid that they are being judged by the staff on their taste...I would like to assure those people that if it is stocked in a store, the staff WANTS YOU TO BUY IT.
Take it easy, folks...jeez.

The customer service was on point the store owner was able and ready to answer all questions they have a large selection of old school R&B at good prices...its a nice spot to take your time to dig in the crates.. also has a few crates of hip-hop...worth a stop in it's a nice little vibe
