Bought a mid range guitar from here sales process was great told them what I wanted and owner set me down with a few options I picked one left happy. 4 weeks later I noticed a deadening on the high end and took it back he made all the adjustments and explained what happened free of charge. Encouraged me to bring it back again if anymore issues, they REALLY do stand behind what they sell

This place is awesome the owner is so kind and so respectful. I took my son‘s guitar in here to get cleaned and re-strong guitar Center was trying to charge me over $80 absurd. I walked out of grumpy‘s guitars paying $70 for the cleaning and a strap for my son. He has some cool one of a kind items and he lets you play the guitar while he cleans your guitar for you. He took such delicate care and make sure my son‘s guitar wasn’t ready for him to play he tuned it and he was ready to go. Highly recommended!!

My husband took me to Grumpy’s to get my very first guitar a couple of days ago. I had never even played before, and had no idea how to even shop for what I wanted, so the whole experience could have been super awkward, but Kevin made me feel very comfortable shopping in his store. Although we weren’t able to make it to his store until 45 minutes before closing Kevin was very gracious and spent a ton of time with us. He gave me a lot of pointers for playing acoustic, and helped me figure out how to best choose the right guitar for me, all without steering me toward any one guitar. He specifically said that a more expensive guitar is not necessarily a better guitar. I really appreciated his approach to me, a total newbie, and I appreciated that he stayed late to help me understand what all I needed to know about my new guitar. I like Kevin’s style of customer service. I will be a repeat customer, for sure! P.S. armed with your tips regarding how to best hold the guitar, good posture for playing, and your words of encouragement, I practiced finger exercises last night and tonight. Tonight I was already able to hit two different chords! Thanks again, Kevin! Keep up the good work!

Brought in a Les Paul to have adjusted, set up, nut change, pick-up swap, stings and fret leveling. Had it all done in about a day and a half, Wow! Guarantees his work and customer satisfaction. Has nice, well maintained instruments and gear for sale, as well as, products to get whatever work you need done available for sale. I brought my custom-built guitar here for a pickup replacement, and only three days after dropping it off, I got a call back saying it was ready to be picked up. Kevin did a terrific job with the installation and rewiring. I highly recommend Grumpy's for any guitar work. The shop also has a great section of guitars, amplifiers, and accessories. Hands down would recommend this store to anyone. I went in to have my guitar restrung so that I can sell it a little bit easier and Kevin went above and beyond, he tuned the guitar a little and fixed the bridge at no additional cost! Just so that it would be easier for me to sell! What an awesome experience that was. He told me honestly what he thought my guitar was worth and my best bets for selling it. If I ever have any other guitar needs I'll be sure to go here.

Wonderful local business. Customer service is fantastic and the people there are friendly and relaxed. I took my acoustic guitar in for a set up and he was very knowledgeable capable. Not only had he set up the guitar exactly to my liking, he also changed the strings and cleaned it up a bit. Will definitely make this my regular go-to for my guitar needs.

I went to Grumpy's looking to sell my guitar. The location is remote in a string of stores that looked all vacant. But walking in the place was clean and nice and it looked like there were some very nice guitars in stock. I was immediately greeted by who I assumed was grumpy asking what I needed so I told him that I was looking to sell my guitar, what brand and style it was. Glancing at his wall of gorgeous musical instruments he very kindly told me that it wouldn't be in his interest to purchase mine and suggested a couple of other places I might go. I only gave four stars because I didn't actually have any business transaction, simply a 2 minute interaction. But if I had something nicer to sell or invest in, this would be the man I would go to.

So far have had three occasions to use Kevin's services and have been extremely happy each time. He fixed my acoustic guitar that someone else had screwed up so much I thought it was irreparable. When he restrings a guitar, there isn't a bit of extra guitar string exposed to catch your fingers. I took my non-functioning electric guitar to him today and he had it fixed and restrung in a couple hours. Pricing is very reasonable and he is a joy to talk to and work with. Best luthier I have ever used, and he has some great guitars in stock, too.

I knew that I was in the right place when I started talking about bands with Kevin for the first 15 minutes I was there. The dude knows what he was talking about. Could’ve talked all day but I came for strings. He helped me pick out the right strings for my electric hollow body and my other electric. So glad I took my Les Paul to Kevin. I would have all my guitars set up years ago with a guy by the name of Jerry Star on the west side. He worked for Gibson for years and hand built some fine guitars. After Jerry retired I took my guitars to Bill Richardson after hearing he knew Gibson guitars.Well Bill seemed to talk more than anything else.Never set up my guitars the way I wanted. That's fine Bill's no longer around so I found another guy who reminds me so much of Jerry Star. Great to talk to and understands what the player is asking for. He made my 2009 Les Paul come to life again with new pickups and a KILLER LOW ACTION SET UP! Been playing this Paul now for a month or so and it sounds like a vintage guitar with the new Seth Lovers! Thanks again Kevin!

I've gone to Grumpy's a few times never bought anything just looked around and talked to the guy. The shop always has a warm and inviting feeling. I went by today after a year of browsing around for a guitar setup but also backing out of ever getting one. So today I went in with my acoustic guitar and in no time Kevin had set it up perfectly according to what he thought I would like based off of listening to me play while he was working. I will definitely be back for more business at Grumpy's!

I bought my first guitar at Grumpy’s 2 weeks ago. It was a cheap one, and it sounded better, looked like higher quality construction than the same priced guitars I saw at 2 other stores. After two conversations I trust Kevin’s advice more than any one else I’ve talked to in a store. You owe it to yourself to at least check him out for your guitar needs. I know very little about guitars and a whole lot about bicycles. Guitar shops seem just like bike shops. I avoid the shops where they disrespect me for not being at their level and go back to ones where they listen to my concerns and actually advise me instead of telling all about their preferences. I’ll be going back to Grumpy’s.

This place is awesome! I took my guitar in to be fixed (missing the tuning key spacer) and he fixed it right on the spot. Then he saw that another one looked like it had just about had it and he replaced that too. Didn't charge me anything! Really cool place and super nice dude. We went in there trying to find a toy guitar for our 3 year old who has taken an interest in music. He didn't have anything that unsophisticated in the shop that he would recommend but said he might have a "gift from Grumpy" in the back. On my first trip to Grumpy's I needed to see if a 'beater guitar' I bought off Ebay could be made to sound like anything. It was junk, so I sent it back, at Kevin's advice. A private music teacher, I was then in the market for a "real" guitar..... Although a very sweet Martin of 1945 vintage was on his wall along with several other interesting instruments, not once dd he 'push' anything. He waits to see what you are drawn to...just a great guy doing his job, personable and well informed about all things music. I walked out with that 00-17 Martin, a very happy camper. Today, walked back in with it, to see what he would charge to do a repair I thought would cost me big bucks. As others have stated,, his fee will be low, not enough to get him a few groceries for lunch! On top of that, he gave me a 24 hour turn-around (unheard of!!) I am so pleased to have found this gem of a music store in NE Albuquerque. Worth traveling many miles to find great products, great service by an extremely fair and friendly guy!

Tried to set up my Jim Root Telecaster myself, but eventually decided I couldn't do it on my own. Took into Grumpy's to have it looked at by Kevin. Thankfully I didn't screw up the action too much. "When I'm done I'll have this thing playing like butter!" he said to me. He got that right! My Tele plays awesome now. Kevin is great. Definitely personable and hard working. If you need work done on your instrument he's your guy.

Do not waste your time going to Big corporate guitar/music stores who do not care about you or your music. I have had several guitars worked on at Grumpy’s. Let me start of by saying that Kevin, the owner, has the knowledge and service that compels me to write this review (though I never do this). Definitely support him, and tell your friends about him. He earned a long-time customer in me, and I will come to him for advice on anything guitar or music related in the future. About a month ago, I decided I wanted to get into acoustic guitar again, so I went around different shops looking for one in my budget that I liked. But I didn't just want to like it, I wanted to know it was the one to get. I went to a few different shops until I found Grumpy's by searching online for guitar shops. I walked in, asked if I could try a few out. I didn't want to try any that were out of my budget, scared that I would get attached haha. But that wasn't a problem because when I picked up the guitar that was exactly the price I wanted to spend, and felt how it played and sounded, I knew I was going home with it. This guitar was a Ventura cutaway, with a deep OM body. I never heard of the brand, but I'm glad I let my ears guide me to this one. It plays, feels and sounds comparable to my $1200 Martin I sold a while ago, at only $300. I told Kevin I was taking this one home. It was labeled to come with a hardshell case, but since he didn't have one in stock, he knocked off the price and threw in a soft case with backpack straps and tons of pockets (which I prefer). He told me Ventura dealers like him offer service to Ventura guitars for life, which I'm just starting to realize the benefit of. I went in a few weeks later because I was playing it every day and the neck needed to be slightly adjusted because of a few buzzing notes, which he got rid of in a minute. And yesterday I went in to have a K&K Pure Mini pickup with a volume control installed. He installed it on the spot while I got to play other guitars there. I highly recommend Grumpy's guitars. Kevin will actually treat you like a human, which feels different in comparison with a lot of the big stores out there. Thanks Kevin, you rock!

ABQ used to have a bunch of great music shops, including my favorite Marc's Guitar. It takes a lot to stand in competition against Guitar Center. I plan to buy as many of my future purchases here as possible. Also, if you like EHX effects, this us really the only place to go. Nice selection of amps as well.

Grumpy's is a guitar person's store. No BS rocker wanna-bees here. Just a genuine guitar technician who fixed up my beloved Seagull while telling me how to do it myself, just in case I ever want to. Fair prices for everything. Nice selection of used guitars and amps in a range of prices. Took me a minute to find the location off of Menaul but it was worth it. And yes, he is grumpy.

Kevin at Grumpy's recently solved the problem of replacing the tuners on my '70's-vintage 12-string acoustic. It has a slotted headstock and odd post spacing, and none of the available sets would work without drilling. Instead, Kevin thought outside the box & cobbled parts from 4 different tuner sets together to fit the existing hole spacing. It holds tuning like a champ now! Grumpy's does solid, professional repair work from basic setup jobs to custom jobs like this one. Thanks, Kevin!

After my mid 70's Guild acoustic guitar fell to the ground and an ugly crack appeared, I thought it was a goner. But Kevin at Grumpy's Guitars fixed the crack, leveled the fingerboard to get out the gouges, dressed the frets and restrung for what I consider to be a bargain. I have my old guitar back again! Great and friendly service, I will return to Grumpy's!

I bought an effects pedal off eBay a couple of weeks ago that was defective. Anyone acquainted with eBay's horrendous customer service knows that it's far less hassle to just eat the cost of repairs rather than try to get a guy in India to understand and help with the problem. Enter Kevin at Grumpy's Guitars. He immediately opened up the pedal and fixed it while I hung out with him and played a beautiful old Juzek half-size bass and browsed through his small but comfortable, remarkably cool store. Half an hour later, I'm holding my repaired pedal, which, I might add, he also did some extensive preventative maintenance on, and he asks me for $10! Most places charge a $60 bench fee just to open the sucker up! I insisted on tipping him another $20, not only because he deserved it, but also because I still got out with my problem solved at less than half what most places would charge. It's nice to see someone running a business according to good old-fashioned ethical principles. Thanks, Kevin.
