Reviews of Delaware Art Museum
Laura Temme
We had an incredible day at the art museum. We first looked around the Copeland sculpture garden before heading inside to beat the heat. We enjoyed looking at all of the different exhibits and learning about the artists. They also had an adorable cafe that had an adorable spot to take a cute picture!

Such a gorgeous museum! I was only able to visit for a little over an hour, and I barely covered the first section. Clearly a lot of love and care goes into these exhibits! And they took care to make sure all the proper Covid protocols were followed. I cannot wait until I can visit again.

Attended the Dirty Popcorn Black Film Festival presented by Jet Phynnx Films. Perfect venue for an amazing organized event with great staff, crew and overall talent. Can’t wait to attend next years event.

Over the years the Delaware Art Museum has only improved. Their gardens are beautiful, the exhibits are thoughtful and amazing and the docents are always ready to help. Highly recommend this local gem. Don't forget to explore and find the meditation garden around back.
Katherine Lizotte
Great museum that does a really good job with the art placards. Seems to specialize in lessor known artists (that are still amazing!). Small but very cute cafe. Lovely sculpture park. Free on Sundays; free parking every day. Museum is in a really nice neighborhood too. A real gem of a museum!

Awesome place to visit in Wilmington to see American art. The sculpture garden outside is large but manageable (sparsely populated with sculptures).
Lots of artwork from both Howard Pyle and Pre-raphaelites.
Not too crowded on a weekday morning.
Parking is free and located a short walk from the entrance.
Free on Sundays and some other times (check website) but worth the full price of admission for adults ($14 as of 12/30).

I co-hosted a baby shower here for 12 guests and this was a WONDERFUL venue. Lauren was so easy to work with and addressed all my questions and requests timely, professionally and expertly. They were able to accommodate our specific requests, such as a mimosa bar and space for a photo wall. The space was beautiful and spacious. Thank you!

this is an amazing art museum. they have some rotating exhibits that really spark interest, but their static exhibits are really creative and thought-provoking. in addition to the galleries inside, there a sculpture garden outside of unique pieces. don't forget to stop by the book store/gift shop. it has some special pieces that just might tickle your fancy.

We went for a daybof service in celebration of MLK Jr's birthday. It was a great event, well put together and attended. We will definitely be going back to check out the museum as a whole another time.

We were visiting from Chicago on a business trip, looking for free things to do in the evenings. We appreciated DAM having free admission (thank you, DuPont) Thursday evening -- it's a lovely little art museum, not too large. We walked around the entire first floor in about 1.5 hours. The displays are beautiful and they have a nice selection of American Art. Their grounds are lovely too. Highly recommended!

Oh it was wonderful! We didn't go inside the actual museum but Scott and I were utilizing that circle maze thing out back to film his tiktok video. Do we need a permit to do that? I think the more relevant question is "who cares?"
But seriously friends, the various art pieces around the outside are straight fabulous. We did some random spur-of-the-moment shots in the vicinity and had a nice little stroll up to Rockford Park. Thank you Delaware Art Museum!

Super nice and quiet art museum! Love the closeness and easy to find parking!

Great museum, really lovely and interesting art, both in permanent and temporary collection. I also thought the price was really fair, which is happening less and less with cultural institutions these days. I was also pleasantly surprised with the little cafe. A fair amount of offerings for such a little space and it was tasty. All staff I interacted with were helpful and friendly. Took my kids down to the kids area as well. Small but cute.

Had a very lovely time! It's a great museum to do in one afternoon. Came for the Pre-Raphaelite collection, stayed for the Pyle illustrations and the evocative modern art. Unfortunately, it was too rainy to go to the sculpture garden :(
The gift shop is also AMAZING.

I really enjoyed this museum and I feel it deserves a higher rating. No, it isn’t a giant museum and the works are pretty specific and limited in genre, but wow, they had some great stuff! I loved the Pyle rooms. This was a discovery of this artist for me and I love him now! I also really love the Pre-Raphaelite artworks (with the red haired beauties!). 2 hours wasn’t enough time for me. I missed a couple of rooms and could have used another half hour but I got kicked out at 4 when they closed (they really should consider staying open till 5 like most museums!). The special exhibit of juried artists was also fabulous (recyled material artworks).

Love this place...great Art esp. Howard Pyle...Treasure Island Pirates...great new exhibit starting with Tiffany glass!
Tim Troxel
I was not expecting much but was pleasantly surprised. They had a nice variety of artists, some were instrumental in the course of our current media with some of their art styles and how our current perceptions were developed. They also had a Tiffany exhibit which I enjoyed.
Marianne J
There are many wonderful art pieces in the galleries. A 27 stop audio tour of the museum's permanent collection is accessible via QR codes.
Sondra Cuayo
Went for the Tiffany tour. The guide was wonderful and so knowledgeable.

First time going to Dia de los Muertos at the Delaware Art Museum, loved it❤
Plan to return to event next year!
José Angel Villarreal González
It's a somewhat small museum, but definitely worth visiting! It's free on Sundays.
Austin Yang
Carefully curated museum mostly dedicated to American Art. A lot of refreshing themes of American Art that I haven't seen in other larger east coast museums! Definitely was a surprise visit! This is one of the smaller museums that you can spend hours browsing their quality artworks in collection!

We have been to a few bigger art museums but we were impressed with the art displayed at this museum. The staff was very friendly. We went on a Thurs 4-8 and it was free with live music and people outside relaxing. The location is beautiful. We were able to see Civil Rights inspired exhibits that are ending soon and really impressed by those exhibits. The gift store is great. We will def return and enjoyed our time.

I attended the Chinese New Year Celebration as a student ASL and English interpreter. This was my first time at the Delaware Art Museum, and I have to say, I was blown away. I arrived early, met the friendly and accommodating staff, and was able to tour the museum before it became crowded. It is gorgeous! I especially love the room that is downstairs called the Kids' Corner. It is so colorful, vibrant, and has tons of interactive aspects for children.
As for the Chinese New Year Celebration, I believe it went off without a hitch. The staff had prepared a number of delightful activities for children and scheduled very impressive and interesting performances. I believe everyone involved had a wonderful time. It warms my heart that the Deaf children were able to take part in all of these activities with full communication accessibility, thanks to the hired interpreters and volunteer interpreters, such as myself. It was a fun and excited day for everyone. Now that I know it is there, I plan to visit the museum again in future.

This Muesem was really cool and nice, and the artwork was just amazing. There was a room with really old books (bit of a book freak over here) and there was a room with optical illusions. There is a sculpture garden outside along with a sort of run down but still nice labrinth,(but it's not there anymore, there is just the spot where it was). The only thing I WOULD complain about is the old security guard kept stalking me and my sister the WHOLE time! He even came up to us and said "Sorry miss but you can't have water bottles in here" pointing at her WALLET. Then after that he was very sus but other then coming over a bunch of times after that it was okay. The art is awesome though. Would definitely recommend, but not for children under the age of 10, they will most likely get bored very quickly. If you have small children I would recommend the please touch muesem down the street. There is also a kids room but I'm pretty sure that it's still closed.

Half off for students and military. Good prices with a large array of art and not very crowded during the pandemic. Attentive staff that was very passionate about the art there and its history. Even without a guide with us, we received a nice amount of information from staff about pieces we were interested in.
Lars Hindsley (Lars)
Even in the Winter months the outdoor grounds are kept up. We enjoyed a nice stroll after a visit.

We've been to a few bigger art museums, but we've been fascinated by the art displayed in this museum. The staff is really friendly. The place is lovely. A pleasant lady at the front desk. There is an impressive collection in this small town museum. Bigger than expected.
Carol Sheriff
Many exhibit halls were closed and being reimagined. The museum still had great art work and a sculpture
garden. Staff was very friendly.
Rebecca Moore
Exquisite and lovely museum.
Love taking my teenage kids here, they love art. Great for a rainy day
Prisma Turtle
First time there and it was beyond my expectations. Bigger than expected and the front desk lady was very kind. Gave me a map and explained the layout of the musuem. Art was beautiful with modern art on the second level. Will be back for sure to check out the sculpture garden !

Delaware Art Museum is open to the public. There we're few people making viewing enjoyable. Everyone abided by safe distancing and masks. To the Pyle's, whom we discovered; a great illustrator for early book, magazine, and newspaper. To the best pre-Raphaelite collection in the U.S. Well worth a visit.
Elizabeth Colgan
Lovely afternoon! Interesting exhibits (loved the Tiffany exhibit!), nice sculpture garden.
Michael Ramsburg
While not as glorious as big city counterparts in Philadelphia or Washington, this small town museum has an impressive collection. We happened to be in the area on a day when admission was free (Sunday August 5th). Parking is free and the snack bar is very reasonably priced. It was a very nice way to spend a few hours.

This is an excellent small museum with one of the best illustration collections I've seen. It also features a well executed sculpture garden. I was glad I took the time to visit, I will return and I recommend it as a museum that others should visit.
M MacFarland
An amazing small museum that has impressive collections. Good specialization and comprehensive exhibits.
Children room is lacking but a major expansion has been announced.
Good sculpture garden.

We did a day trip from DC over the weekend. At the time of our visit, there were street closures surrounding the museum. While there are detour signs, there was no clear way to access the museum--there was a single sign that said "Art Museum". After calling the museum and getting a less than helpful response to take Bancroft "straight through," we circled back to the street and realized our error. The reason for the confusion was due to a "Road Closed" sign that was placed on one side of Bancroft Parkway (a two-lane road in a residential area), leading us to believe that the entire street was closed. However, if you continued onto the unpaved road, you will be able to reach the museum.
Admission to the museum is $12 and parking is free. For art aficionados, the lure is their collection of Pre-Raphaelite art, and early 19th century American illustrator Howard Pyle. Don't miss the murals of Howard Pyle, which are on display until the end of December. Truly beautiful and one of my favorite parts of our experience. We were able to view the entirety of the museum in about 2-2.5 hours, but there are public tours available at 1 and 2 pm. Having visited all the Smithsonian art galleries as well as the DIA and the MET, I appreciated the intimacy of a smaller space and the ability to view the art without feeling like you're on top of other patrons. We were able to view everything at a relaxed pace. A hidden gem in Wilmington.

A great moderate-sized museum with a lot of nice art. Look forward to returning.
Raymond Ellis
I really enjoyed the museum. The illustrations by Howard Pyle and others were interesting. I also enjoyed the Pre-Raphaelite gallery. The Layered Abstraction exhibit and the Julio daCunha exhibit were great, as well.
Paul Snow
This museum is surprisingly robust including a sculpture garden. Staff is friendly.
John Ogden
A manageable size art museum with a fantastic collection. Well worth a membership! Free parking.
Alyssa Hull
Lovely little museum with great programming and a pre-eminent collection of pre-Raphaelite art.
Aurum Stoic
The art was was wonderful the story and history of the artist's are interesting pirates of the Caribbean actors and director came to this museum to see how they would play pirates use the fashion from the paintings...
Adam Krell
The Delaware Art Museum has the largest collection of Pre-Raphaelite art outside the U.K. and it is exquisite. Dante Rossetti's unfinished work, "Found," which he considered one of his most important, is on display. The museum hosts other collections and is small enough to be enjoyed in one visit. The grounds are beautiful as well. If you love the Pre-Raphelites you have to visit this museum.
Louis DelCueto
Loved the museum! It provides a great experience and is very informative and educational with all the beautiful works of art.
Scott Crump
Free on a rainy Sunday. Lovely art and beautiful building. The outdoor displays and labyrinth was a sweet bonus.
Sam Holt
Excellent, intimate museum. Holds perhaps the best American collection of Pre-Raphaelite art in its collection, as well as works from notable artists of the Delaware Valley. Worth a visit if in Wilmington.
Brian Bulkowski
This is a great little museum! Goes nicely beyond the pictures of white guys, nice exhibitions.
Julie Jackson
I like the collections and the traveling exhibits. The museum store always has many things I want. The sculpture garden and wooded grounds are lovely.
John Marquette
Just leaving the Delaware Art Museum is the "Our America/Nuestra América" exhibition of Latin American art; remaining is the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood collection which makes this place worth a visit.

Such a picturesque musuem in a beautiful and tranquil neighborhood! The exhibits ranged from one-of-a-kind Tiffany Stained Glass pieces to outdoor sculptures and a rock physical maze. Wear comfortable walking shoes because there are three floors of various exhibits to visually inspect and dissect! The Brandywine Valley will not disappoint!
Dan Masker
Meh. I have been to quite a few museums. Pretty good for a small local one. Staff could be a little more engaging honestly or it would get 4 stars.
Joshua Fagan
A dazzling, forgotten gem. I am slightly averse to writing so much about this museum, because I love the fact that it is so unknown to the vast majority of people traveling up and down the East Coast. But right next to all of these old stately houses from centuries past, you can find on an idyllic green lawn, this stately, softly brown Neoclassical museum that contains a wide variety of art from the present and past. There is a lyrical, dazzling beauty to even some of the newer art, but nothing can compare to the pristine intensity of the pre-Raphaelite collection. As an ardent scholar of 19th century art and literature, I have seen these free Rafael light paintings in books and studies and and lecturers. To see them in their elegant, precise vibrancy right in front of my eyes is an otherworldly experience, and an uncanny one, considering how unknown this museum is. Pre Raphaelite art marks a break from the conventional, a break from accepted standards of beauty in form, and an attempt to recover an older, forgotten conception of art that emphasizes an almost uncomfortable intensity of beauty and enchanted wonder.

Free admission on Thursdays from 4pm to 8pm
There were a lot of works, so there was a lot to see.
