Reviews of Mid-America All-Indian Museum
Bryan Tait
I had been wanting to visit for quite sometime but the hours of operation and my schedule hadn't really lined up until today. I learned so many fascinating things about the local Natives and about the Keeper of the Plains. They have some beautiful artwork that was done by the guy who created the Keeper. You can also step outside, look and even go into the tipi that is out there. If you are curious about having Native roots they will also point you in the right direction to do research.

Mid America All Indian Museum Seneca Kansas:
For a very minimal charge you can spend hours in this museum and walk the grounds learning about the Native American ways and art. The pieces you will see here are just specular ranging from paintings, clay work, artifacts, to weaving and everything in between.
There are even drums to play, pelts to feel and a teepee the little ones can go in, all inside the building. Along with all the art you can enjoy checking out a very tall friendship totem pole that's in a large conference type room which also includes some other larger items and history.
When you're done inside you are encouraged to wonder the outside grounds and enter a full sized teepee to see what life would be like back then. Surrounding the teepee are examples of other things used and grown.
They help support the museum with the sale of hand crafted jewelry and other collectible items if you are so inclined. This museum is well worth the time you will spend and you may learn something of a beautiful people you didn't know.

On our field trip we were given the opportunity to make some noise with drums and shakers. We were read a story, discussed Black Bear Bosin, and were able to touch bison hide, see beadwork try our hand at games, and more. Thank you to the wonderful ladies who educated our students today.
Emily S
Worth the visit! Learn all about Native American heritage with hands on exhibit. Then learn all about Wichita's own Black Bear Bosin (designer of the Keeper of the Plains) and view many of his drawings and art works, including a mural that takes up an entire wall!
David Sanders
We visited on March 19th, 2023, which was a sunday. The museum is not typically open on Sundays, but the Cherokee Nation had their At-Large annual meeting. It was crowded, and difficult to find parking right at the Museum, but there are several parking areas nearby within walking distance. Look for parking areas on either side of the confluence of rivers near the foot bridge. It was free to enter for this event, but normally tickets are $7 for adults.
Whitechocolate Zaddy
Great building and teaching moment for anyone who cares to learn about different cultures and history. By the river walk and famous Keeper of the Plains statue in heart of downtown Wichita.
Linda Archer
Pretty much a one-man show, but very well worth the time and small admission. Very impressive and moving life works by Blackbear Bosin, including "Keeper of the Plains", displayed in Wichita.
Lori Jean Kveragas
Beautiful artwork. I wanted everything in the gift store. Videos and books for loads of info. Really nice volunteer and cashier.
Sad the outdoor teepee was closed off today. Still a great stop when seeing keeper of the plains.
Jan Bush
Went to the indigenous Mama film festival at the Museum. Enjoyed the creative talent from around the world. Afterwards toured the museum. Thoroughly lost myself in the works and life of Blackbear Bosin. Awesome tribute to such a talented and creative soul.
I recommend you go to view these works and more by other artists. You’ll find examples of beaded moccasins to forged silver in addition to paintings, historical photos, and ceramics.
Their gift store includes handcrafted items by Native Americans and books.
The staff was also friendly and helpful.
Lyrae
It had lots of beautiful artwork and some good information. My son loved playing with the drums and looking at the different animal pelts. The teepee outside was pretty cool too I just wish it had something inside representing what would've been in a teepee. And I was hoping for more actual artifacts being a museum and all, which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. Still happy we visited though.
rocky boxer
Awesome Place well worth the admission definitely informative definitely something worth seeing both the center and the Keeper of the flame at night just to walk around and see all the cultural artifacts and learn some of the history of the Indian culture and to be able to tie it in with my history is something that was well worth the experience definitely a 5-star rating
Chalais Cox
Enjoyed the museum mostly the art work. Didn't realize how small it was.
Rosie Knox
The event itself was great.
It was a little unorganized for the speakers ,l couldn't unstand the speaker who was speaking and telling stories
Valorie Ebie
Went to the alterNative film festival! It was absolutely amazing! Really enjoyed the movies and the Q&A afterwards with the writer/director and actor.
Just super sad it was better attended. Kinda shows how lame Wichita really is at anything not mainstream.
Heather
If you want to get out of the house and do something different, definitely check out your local community they have so much to offer. Like the Mid-America All-Indian museum ♥️
Brian Lyday
Nice place to go. Wish it was bigger. Trail of tears memorial day / walk.
Siva Chithra
Even though I am not an art lover, I loved this place. The ehi exhibits are lovely and the showcasing is not like any other museum I have ever went. This portrays the rich cultural heritage of native Americans brilliantly.
Matthew Broderick
Great atmosphere and staff. Really enjoyed the largest collection of Black Bear Bosin work!
Anthony Ramirez
Went to the back-to-school Indian Pow Wow!
It was beautiful and fun. It is one place that you should check out.
Heather Freckles
There are so many places in Wichita that sometimes places like this go unlocked. If you want to see something different and learn something new, or even just get out of the house go check out this museum.
Kathrina Bradshaw
A very nice museum displaying some famous Native American artists and their work. They also house the whole timeline of the development of the Keeper of the Plains that is now Wichita's symbol.. There was also a nice little giftshop area. I did notice that they had a flyer advertising the bead work classes that they have for both beginners and advanced! You could make some very cool bracelets or earrings. For summer time, they had sunflowers and watermelons as two of the selections to choose from... fun fun!! Think I will have to find the time to take a bead class now!!
Natasha Monjar
Small exhibit, but beautiful. They had a small area with a mini tipi and drum and other instruments and books where my kids kept entertained. The area with the national flags was also lovely, with a great view of the iconic statue who's name escapes me at the moment. The gift shop had quality items
David Talty
Nice and peaceful when its not busy.
Susan Wright
Beautiful art, beautiful hand made crafts to purchase. Very helpful staff. A spot for families or students to sit and read comfortably. Plenty of very captivating pieces for children and adults. Some very humorous pieces, too! Very enjoyable experience!
Angel PinaHardin
Very interesting and beautiful museum. Recommend visiting to learn about Native America.
Rhonda Richmond
Absolutely loved it!
P B
Most of this museum was dedicated to one artist. A few artifacts.
My husband had a door slam shut on his finger. We were told it had been repaired multiple times.
Matt Killingsworth
It has been years since I've attended an event there, but it turned out to be a great wedding venue. They had spaces for the wedding party to get ready, a kitchen for catering, parking was easy (though limited) and it's right downtown. Enjoyed our time there and am glad to have this as part of Wichita's culture.
Steven Martin
We were grateful for the opportunity to go for free with the Sunflower Program. We are homeschoolers and we are learning about Native Americans right now. It was very nice, but I had hoped it would be educational about different Native American tribes, maybe with more artifacts. Not much of that, but we learned a lot about a Native American artist which was interesting. I wish it had been more clear on the website that that's what this was.
liberating leash
The current exhibit was celebrating the life of Blackbear Bosin and his works of art.
There was also information pertaining to the history of indigenous tribes in aviation in Wichita.
I had hoped, or thought, that the museum was specifically focused on the indigenous tribes of the area, but it was more of an exhibit. I assume they change with assume regularity.
Around the corner is the Keeper of the Plains statue.
I enjoyed my time there.
Gregory Franklin
Went to veterans event. Indian center is a great place and all Wichitans should visit. This is history at it's best.
Angela Guest
Educational museum, with hands on drums, animal skins, and more to explore! Great for people of all ages, also not a breathtakingly long walk through, for those who are limited in mobility..
George T. Sipos
The museum part of the Center is dedicated to the life and work of artist Blackbear Boisin, the designer of the Keeper of the Plains monument to Native Americans located nearby. Other than that, there are a few Native American musical instruments to experience and a store and a main gallery where gatherings are held.
Angie Bufore
My family used to go every Wednesday for community night. My son learned the Native drum and participated in one of the pow wows. He and his father are Native and they loved being a part of their culture. Saturdays during the holidays the children would make Christmas ornaments to take home and for the large tree at the center. Great cultural center!
Rachel Porter
Very friendly and knowledgeable staff that is eager to teach you Native American culture. They have a multitude of traditional crafting classes with indigenous instructors that not only teach you the craft but the history behind the crafting. Their museum component shares many interesting learning topics and, when not in a pandemic, the center hosts many traditional dances and ceremonies.
Lynn Stumblingbear
My favorite local museum. Great Black Bear Bosin exhibit. He did the iconic Keeper of the Plains statue! Nice gift shop, too.
Zeke Knipps
Other than the gates near Keeper of the Plains were still locked which made it difficult to get to, the museum was wonderful. Loved Blackbear Bosins art and story.
Sy Brahim
Great history and life art of creator of Keeper of the Plains....too bad vandals destroyed the outside displays but still worth the entrance fee and ask for educator discount if applicable....excellent staff
Janell Carr
This is a really neat place to visit! This place holds great history for Wichita and Kansas, overall. It gives a look into past Indian life and culture. There is a neat museum/gift shop located inside. This can also be used as a wedding venue with beautiful views to the Keeper! Beautiful inside and outside of the building
Shanna Marshall
We visited here to learn more of the Native Americans in this area, but were somewhat disappointed in that there were some photographs and a few artifacts., but not a lot of mid-American Indian history. There was an extensive photo/info of athletes and those who served in the Armed Services. Displays of lovely baskets & pottery. There was a very interesting section devoted to Black Bear Bosin with a video of him in addition to numerous pieces of his artwork and a huge wall mural painted by him. A nice, concise museum but not as extensive as many as we have visited.
Runningwolf Carson
Every 4th wendsday of the month the native community comes together for arts and crafts, drumming, singing and just community outreach. Very positive experience as I'm from Colorado it helps me meet the local native Americans, so hopefully more people will keep coming and make it even a better occasion.
Linda Mies
I had the pleasure of standing next to him after the Keeper of the Plains had been built on a Summer evening about dusk before the fire pits were built. I might've noticed his appearance or his name tag (a Reception was made in the Kiva area or inside one of the meeting rooms, something like that. Told him that was very beautiful. He smiled, shook my hand. This was a very special moment in my life. The exhibit a few years ago with a short film was also extremely interesting. Have enjoyed going to the Pow Wows too.
Kevroc
This is an iconic Wichita museum located at the confluence of the little and big Arkansas rivers on sacred ground. There is a beautiful museum there and also a common space for dances and ceremonial aspects. I highly recommend.
Jeffree Coba
It is a beautiful center for events. Rich in tradition and history. Well maintained. Beautiful Native American paintings. I always take visitors from out of town here. Wish the museum section was bigger.
Vilma Santistevan
The museum was honoring a local native American artist so the exhibits were telling his story. If we visit Wichita again we will visit to get a more general history of our native Americans.
Diane Schawe
Beaded bracelet class with Michelle was terrific! Can't wait for the next class! Class cost included museum admission, so I stayed until closing time. I need to go back and spend more time in there, too. The Blackbear Bosin exhibit is fantastic.
Craig Ewing
Enjoyed my visit there with Kneehigh and his owner.
Carl Anderson
Outdoor exhibits are currently closed (07/2020). Museum and gift shop are combined. Museum displays are primarily the paintings of one local artist, with a little history, and a few examples of craft and clothing on display. A small library is included in the space. There are a couple of videos on continuous play.
Peter Neville
A wonderful museum with some lovely native American art. Stop here first on your visit to Witchita and get $2 off at many other museum too. The exhibit of Blackbear Bosin work is especially beautiful.
Brandon Williams
I'm Cherokee Indian, and this place definitely promotes the Indian heritage, I gave 4 stars because I'd love to see it expanded upon. They have activities and events from powwows to educational seminars, covering everything from the way of life to the beliefs of our ancestors. I'm happy to see that we live on even in urban areas such as Wichita.
Joe Wilson
Great place took my kids there today to get to know their heritage. Did sand painting activity. Going back for sure for more activities.
Alisha Custer
Great place for Native families or just anyone to go. Wednesday night is community night and there are sometimes lectures in the evenings on those nights. Call the museum for details...memberships and events. The center is closed on Mondays.
Katherine Pattinson
A great place to go to learn about my ancestry. There is always an event going on at the Mid-America All-Indian Center. My daughter loves going to the Wednesday night Community events to learn how to dance at pow-wows and to hear and see the the drumming. Visiting the Indian Center inside and out on all the grounds all the way out to the Keeper of the Plains statue you will feel like you are part of a family. The spirit of yesterday and now comes together and overwhelms you.
Misty Batemon
Had a migraine but enjoyed the few moments I was able to be inside. I will be back to another powwow soon. Love my roots and would love to know more about them.
Yung Remy
