Reviews of Tudor Place
Victoria O'Tool
This is such a fantastic and history filled place in Georgetown. It is definitely worth the visit! The tour guide was super knowledgeable and friendly, and I really enjoyed the tour.
The house was full of history, and there were many stories to go along with the pieces inside.
The gardens were BEAUTIFUL as well, but it was raining when I visited, so that was a little sad. Be aware the brick 🧱 walkways are VERY slippery when it’s raining.
I would definitely get the tour if you decide to go here. Tickets can be found on their website.
Check this place out! It’s worth seeing!
Sara Ceresa
I was mostly interested in seeing the gardens, which didn’t disappoint. I also quite enjoyed the tour of the house including the historical context of the property’s ownership and recognition of the critical roles of slaves and caretakers in the history of the property.
Theseas
Very interesting estate with nice gardens. The tour guide told us the story of Tudor Plane and answered any questions we had. I recommend visiting if you have time.
Rogie Legaspi
Great place to spend an afternoon browsing the historic artifacts in the house. The garden is perhaps more interesting to visit in the summer than late fall. The neighborhood where it's located is such a charming place. Worth visiting.
pooria riahi
This is a very charming place hidden in Georgetown and visiting it is free. places in a cute neighborhood and its gardens could be a relaxing destination for an afternoon. However, I have to voice my concern on the state of the place and how badly it is being kept. In my mind, if they need money, it is ok to charge visitors but gardens are delicate things to maintain and need attention.

We visited Tudor Place in mid-August. We didn’t have a reservation for a guided tour but they were able to accommodate us which was very nice. There is a suggested donation of $10 per person for the tour which we were happy to pay. The tour was great! Our guide was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions. They have a small but well stocked gift shop and ice cold water for a dollar! Definitely worth a visit.
The Traveller
Amazing experience! Nature was absolutely breathtaking the first weekend of November! So calm and peaceful, I could only hear the birds and the autumn leaves falling down... If you are in DC, don't miss it! ❤️
Aron Reyder
Nice place to visit.
The house is a bit over "set-up", and feels more like a museum than a conserved house from the 1800s.
The entrance fee is $10 per person, and it includes a guided tour of the house and a garden map.
Since the place is built like a museum, it should be ran like one and offer the option to walk around by yourself. Especially since they have a log book in each room about all the items in the room, which while on the tour you can't really study.
The garden and outdoors are beautiful and should be seen, the inside is nice but not worth the time or money.
Michelle Mitton
A beautiful stop in our tour of Georgetown. The house was closed due to COVID but the gardens were worth the visit. We loved the neighborhood around the estate and the fountains and gardens are well kept and lovely. Staff was friendly and helpful.
Sammy Mills
Beautiful grounds but not much to it. It would be a beautiful place for a wedding or a photo shoot. We didn’t get a chance to tour the house, they happen on the hour. To walk through the gardens is $3 and you get a brochure about the property.
Rachel McCoy
Beautiful in the spring time with the flowers in full bloom. Gardens can be visited for just $3. There are plenty of benches to sit and admire the view of this little idyll in the middle of Georgetown.
Bill Farmer
After living in the DC area for over 30 years, I recently discovered this hidden gem tucked away in Georgetown. With a beautiful estate house built in 1805 and magical gardens with fountains, I would highly recommend a visit to both locals and tourists!
B Daisy
Gorgeous. We got to rest in the garden for half an hour before our tour of the house started, which was beautiful and so serene. The house itself comes with a great amount of history, and the people who work here really care about the story and try to provide you with as much information as they can, which was really inspiring to see. You could tell, just by looking at Francis (our amazing guide) and the rest of the staff, how significant the house and the narrative was to them. Their enthusiasm and dedication was beautiful, and the garden and the house itself was such a treat to see. Loved every minute of it.
Raymond James
A nice place to walk around and enjoy nature. There are many different plants to enjoy and see. I would recommend bringing bug spray as there are many bugs in the gardens. You can purchase water bottles for a dollar at the office.
Natalie Thomas
We did the elegant Victorian tea party and toured the Historic House. 👌🏽👌🏽
Sara Syed
Cool place but there was a wedding going on so we couldn't see one portion of the gardens. Well maintained house even the restroom was old school
Emma Grace Thompson
Truly enjoyed our tour with Emily this past weekend! She answered all of our numerous questions and I really appreciate the Museum’s ongoing work to highlight the history of Tudor Place’s enslaved and immigrant laborers.
Stacey Quandt
Excellent tour. The docent clearly appreciates the history of the home and its former owners. The garden in December is mostly boxwood with a few snowdrops blooming.
Joshua Weber
Neat history. This home belonged to a dependent of George Washington. Kept in the family for many years the house has a feel of a big mansion, but seems a little more humble compared to others. The grounds and gardens are free to walk around. They're not all that big, but are well maintained and pretty. Guided yours are offered. No air conditioning. The guide was great, he was extremely knowledgeable about the family history, and knew all the artifacts and house history.
Lewis Eron
Very interesting. Wonderful docent. Great introduction to Upper Class Life in Washington, DC in the 18th, 19th and early 20th century.
Logan Kreider
Was a part of a proposal that used this property and they had an incredible experience! The staff was easy to work with and very accommodating! Highly recommend!
Adam Billen
Great tour with fantastic hosts, extremely transparent about the history of enslaved people that worked on the house. The ground are incredible and you really get a sense of what early America was like.
Mark Navarro
Nice place to visit when you're in Georgetown. Excellent guided tour of the house. Lots of interesting history. Recommended.
Diane Schulz
I had seen the house years ago but never had a chance to see the gardens and grounds. The plantings that are literally hundreds of years old are lovely and vital. I found a cool respite on a hot summer day.
J- Alex
If you like history and gardens this is the place for you, really nice and relaxing
Graph Guy
Great walk through of one of D.C. finest families and relatives of our first President, George Washington. Excellent staff, friendly and very knowledgeable.
Jonathan Fuhrman
I absolutely loved touring this place! I'm normally not big into guided tours, which is the only way to see the house. But the tour guide was super informative and kept things moving along. The inside is stunning. Well worth a visit!
Trevor Joyce
This is one of the nicest historic houses in D.C. However, You are going to want to reserve a time slot in order to tour the home.
Soumeya B.
My favorite grounds to chillout under a shaded tree. Who needs a mansion when you can borrow someone else’s?
I have not visited the building yet, but that’s more due to a lack of interest in walled spaces than anything else.
Samyuktha Krishna
I took advantage of the $1 tour in Feb and I have to say it was more than worth it! The docent who gave us the tour was wonderfully knowledgeable about its history. She also knew the history behind every artifact in the room. It was an hour long tour, but we took an extra 15 minutes with questions and photos through the tour (thankfully a slow day, so it was possible). I didn't even know how the time had passed. (I'm not even a hardcore history buff btw)
For those interested, the house belonged to Thomas Peter and Martha Parke Custis (granddaughter of Martha Washington & [step granddaughter of] George Washington). That in itself makes the house interesting. The stories of these folks enlivens the history books a little and gives insight into the lives during that period.
Also, if you have been to Mount Vernon (George Washington's estate), you'll find that there are a few items from there that are now at the Tudor place
Once you finish the tour inside, you are allowed to peruse the outdoor gardens at your leisure and look at the different flora for your enjoyment.
Tracey Sanderson
This is a beautiful house with many historic artifacts, especially ones belong to George and Martha Washington. I highly recommend a visit for anyone visiting the DC area.
Awatif Aljudaibi
Amazing historical place, you can find hand made products and lovely souvenir.
Kirsten Neus Swift
We took a tour of Tudor Place around the holidays and it was really nice. The tour was really interesting and the home is beautiful. It’s especially nice to see it decorated for Christmas.
Sharon Argueta
Great tour is offered at an affordable price. Beautiful self guided tour of garden.
Sanka Illangakoon
A place of historical significance offering guided tours of the property or self guided garden tours for very reasonable rates. Recommended to anyone in the area.
Saju K
Lovely park in mid of dc. Make it a point to visit this gem of a place if you are in town
Emily Craig
My brother got married here....so freaking gorgeous.
Jessica Kilcullen
Fantastic tour with fascinating history of Martha Washington's descendants! Beautiful home worth the price of admission to see!
Allanah
Such a good one hour tour! Amy was very knowledgeable and invited us to ask questions on everything which made the tour a bit longer!
10$/adult
Worth visiting the gardens and explore smokehouse, carriage house, etc.
If in Georgetown and you've seen the main attractions, this is a different options. Be mindful that the tour may be difficult for young children and elderly for lack of sitting and moving space while visiting historic rooms.
Rebekah Magill
Beautiful home and grounds, very informative tour.
Rodrigo Fernandez
This is a lovely place, didn't visit the museum since I was only here for a wedding but it's a great venue for this. The ceremony was filled with birds sounds and leaves rustling with the wind as background sounds. It is not handicap friendly though.
Shashank Rana
I came here for a wedding. I didn't get a chance to explore the house itself since the wedding was outdoors. However, the garden is amazing. It's clean and well maintained. Will come by some later to check out the house.
hasna af
Nice garden, but too expensive for a small place like this.
D C
Beautiful mansion and garden. Went during the end of summer. There were still lots of flowers but i can only imagine what spring would look like. They even have fruit trees which was neat. Well maintained. Dream wedding destination for sure! Make sure you bring cameras and dress up. There is a fee to get in though.
Veronica Cordoba Sandi
I was short of time so I paid for the self-guided garden tour ($3). Nice quiet place, very few people visiting when they opened at 10. They have a nice souvenir shop but don't have any local art or crafts. I did buy a beautiful flour sack towel by Alice's Cottage at $9. I thought the place was bigger, but the garden is quite small. You can look around in a very short period of time. However, I got really good pics.
Amanda McDonough
This was a unique location and a first time visit to this location, although the house was closed due to COVID, the Gardens were well maintained and a very pretty tour to walk around. There was a wedding there before we started a tour and looked like a great place to get some nice photos.
K Velasquez
I went in the beginning of spring so the garden was not in its splendor and we couldn't get tickets for the house. I do recommend to visit this place but get tickets in advance
Jackie Kilburn
Great tour of the house. Very enjoyable.
Bruce Charamut
Nice walk from the metro and a house and grounds worth seeing and hearing about it's history.
Austin Graff
If you love history or architecture, add the Tudor Place to your DC itinerary. Here's why:
1) History: As one of the only historic mansions in the USA continuously owned by the same family, there's much to learn from it. The land where the house is built was purchased using the wedding gift money from George and Martha Washington by Martha's granddaughter, Martha Parke Custis. Because of the Washington connection, many objects inside come straight from Mt. Vernon, including, randomly, a desk from Francis Scott Key. Some items date back to 1660!
2) Space: It's a beautiful home with two floors, a gorgeous garden (just not in the winter), a garage, and a few other spaces on the property. The rooms are fascinating, especially seeing how they evolved as time went by. The guided tour will point these out throughout the main space.
If you love history and architecture, the small price to pay for a tour is definitely worth it. If you're not into these things or have small kids, you may not enjoy it as much as others. Still, if you want off-the-National-Mall museums, this is a great spot!
Sparsh Gupta
It is beautiful if you are into historic places. The tours are cheap and very informative. I liked to spend time in the garden and just relax on a nice weather day. Parking is tough but easily accessible via public transportation (bus stop right across the street )
Steven Rubin
The house certainly surpasses the gardens in worth as an attraction. House tours are given on the hour and last about an hour. The ends of the house were built in the late 18th century. The center of the structure was built in the 1800s. The house remained in the same family until only a few decades ago. Many of the objects and furniture in the house have great historical significance; some were owned by George Washington. Our guide for the house tour (Elizabeth) was excellent. If you like early American history you will greatly appreciate this historical home. We visited on a Wednesday morning and there was ample street parking, but there was a 2 hour limit.
Asa Orrin-Brown
Beautiful gardens, perfect spot for a wedding!
romualdo pina
Good story. The lady from the tour is great. You have to pay and no photos on the inside
Mere
Historical homes that have been continuously occupied since they were built, are reasonably rare and I appreciate this for that alone if nothing else. All the gardens are in arguably sad repair, if with a sign that indicates there will be some renovation in the near future, the interior of the house is perfect, kept almost exactly the way it was left when the last residents lived there.
The docent was both well-spoken and incredibly knowledgeable, with ready answers for most of my questions despite the fact I have been known to inquire about very obscure things. The tour occupies the full amount of time, and feels neither too slow nor rushed, covering the entire house in about an hour. I look forward to returning to the house when they have renovated the gift shop to turn it back into the library.
Iris Tapia
The tour inside the house was excellent.
Pamela Eward
Visited one afternoon this week while on vacation. House tour was a little disappointing. The docent asked about our interests in the house and we told her we were interested in the architecture and furniture. Sadly, she didn't include much info on those two topics during the tour. The gardens were not well maintained. In late May, several things could be in bloom but we didn't see many spring blooms had been planted. The things that were blooming needed to be deadheaded. Disappointing.
Tanya McFarlane
It's a beautiful place, we're so glad we spent time here.
William Yon
This was a little gem in Georgetown. We went in the winter, during their dollar days special, but will definitely return to pay full price and see the gardens in full bloom.
The staff are knowledgeable and excited about the building's history and the process of curating the building. While there isn't one theme to the house (various rooms are staged to various time periods), the house has the feel of a family's genealogy. You walk through rooms like you walk through the generations of the descendants of George and Martha Washington's family. This genealogy gives the odd juxtapositions of eras, where one moves from a room in the federalist style to a room in late Victorian, a surprisingly delightful cohesion as the engaging curator tells the story of a mother and her children who bridge the two eras.
Definitely worth checking out!
Sara Stallings
Great house tour! Very interesting artifacts that are original to the family and even some pieces from George Washington!
While waiting for your tour to start, I definitely recommend doing the self guided grounds tour (but bring some bug spray!).
Rick Welsh
The tour guide was good and the home and garden were awesome.
Claire Gudewich
Great afternoon exploring the gardens. House tour was very informative. Took advantage of dollar admission in February, but can't wait to return in the spring!
farzin nouri
Nice setup in the heart of DC's Georgetown. Was there as an invitee to a wedding ceremony. The multitude of shade trees offer a good respite in the middle of a sunny day in early summer. Signage good improve a bit, especially for the restrooms. Must hope for a lucky parking spot, as only on-street parking is available.
Anji Bedi
Well worth a few hours of your time!
Spent a wonderful winter afternoon on a docent led tour of the property. It was the story of the people who made it their home that really made the place come alive. A wonderful guide, who not only knew the history of the house and most of its artifacts, she explained the connection between the families who lived here and other prominent historical homes in the area.
Despite the development of Georgetown into one of the most well known of DC's residential neighborhoods; the view from the rear garden is still stunning and somewhat untouched. When the weather is better and the gardens are bloom, this could be a great segway from the M street drag! Combine it with a tour of Dumbarton Oaks, it's incredible pre-Columbia art museum and gardens!
Several free docent tours are offered in the winter. Recommended.
Emily Belcher
Nice garden, good museum, knowledgeable guides. A bit rushed, not enough time to look at everything on tour but also nearly impossible to remember who is who when family generations being referred to, esp as they all have the same name, so a hand out or family tree would be useful!
Alyssa Aiello
They only do guided tours of the house, but they very informative. The house is in beautiful condition, but not fully air conditioned. They have fans for use during your visit, which are very nice. It's a great way to see DC's history that is off the beaten path.
Erik Wyche
A hidden gem in DC. I had never heard of Tudor Place before, but stumbled upon it while looking for places to propose to my girlfriend. When I inquired about the proposal and having a photographer on the grounds to capture the event, they were incredibly receptive & accommodating. They allowed my photographer to come in early and set up flowers, plus the events coordinator walked the area to ensure no other visitors were near us for the actual proposal. I am very happy I chose this location to hold such a memorable event.
The garden is intimate and beautiful, while the mansion is a wonderful example of traditional American architecture, designed by the same architect as the US Capital building. I can't wait to go back.
Jason Allison
My wife and I had a great time touring Tudor place. Fran was a fantastic guide who is not only extremely knowledgeable but also very passionate about conveying the legacy the family wanted to preserve by creating this estate. Even though the website says the tour lasts 45 minutes, it does last longer (went over an hour). We were both interested in asking more questions when it was over and since it was her last tour of the day, she accommodated us and took us through again. If you are interested in history, this is a must do tour! Thank you Fran!
Kathryn Sheehan
We were disappointed to find out the tour we wanted was sold out. There was nothing on the website indicating you should reserve ahead of time, nor did anyone tell us that when we checked in. So we never actually got to see inside the house. We walked around the garden, many flowers were dead (but it is September!).
Lise R
The guided tour was really interesting. The house has an amazing amount of objects and furniture from several periods. The guide narrates the family's history and makes you understand how wealthy people used to live. It really worth stopping by.
Greg Beck
A Georgetown walking-tour "must see". Well worth the price of admission.
Beautifully decorated in largely period (and in many cases) actual artifacts.
Building and grounds are wonderful.
Alan Hosch
Wonderful garden tour and an excellent example of an Art Deco Era garden with Late Colonial remnants. Will return for house tour. Enjoyed the gift shop. The best way to experience Tudor Place is to walk to it from M Street and experience Georgetown by foot - every nook and cranny.
germaine andino
Love the grounds, before the leaves come back it has an amazing view of Virginia Rosslyn skyline from the main lawn.
Gáspár Albert
After 4 pm they close. Beautiful garden anyway, peacefully looking, but the street noise is louder than ideal. Lots of sign explain what can be seen. The house itself was already closed when I arrived. From the outside it looks historical.
Karina Valverde
One of the hidden gems in DC that few residents even know exists. The rose garden in the summer was a sort of sanctuary when I worked nearby. The gift shop has some unique gifts with a historical angle, inexpensive. Check out their events calendar for special tours and activities. I recruited my friends for a Fall Foliage tour and tea at the mansion. It was a Dowton-esque kind of experience!
Rev. Christine Mcgunigale
What a beautiful place to get married and visit
Jenny Zelle
A hidden gem, and a great place for a quiet stroll or a picnic in the beautiful gardens. The gardens are free, but there is an admission fee for the actual house. Easy parking.
Liz R
A best kept secret in DC. Beautiful grounds, helpful staff and lots of space for kids to run around.
Matthew Gibbons
A quiet and beautiful museum nestled in the more slow-paced parts of Georgetown. Very knowledgeable and helpful staff. Overall a wonderful experience.
Jonathan Buechner
Patrick was extremely knowledgeable and I really enjoyed getting to learn more about the history of the house!
Marianne Pease
Gorgeous historical home and gardens. It's well worth a visit just to sit and spend the day along the flowers.
Ken Latta
A unique part of our national heritage. From personal challenges including infant mortality to the gift of a long-lived family matriach, a rich story. The stories of servants, indentured and free, are included. An fascinating collection of artifacts including on of 2 camp stools of Georhe Washing are on display. Formal gardens are attached. Manf of the former owners are buried at the nearby Oak Hill cemetary.
Lexi Aagesen
Gorgeous gardens to wander through on a sunny spring day.
Mary Haskins
Magnificent historical home we happened upon. The tour was well worth the money and the grounds are beautiful.
Katie Willard
A little less known than other house museums in the area, but this place has just as much history--and is more connected to George Washington than the Old Stone House!
Tracey Filar Atwood
A lovely house and gardens, with lots of history, and ties to George and Martha Washington. They offer tours, and host special events and lectures.
David Valente
It was beautiful and I had a lovely time. 4 stars only because I thought the gardens would be larger for the $. Still worth a trip.
Anastasios Kotinas
Interesting house with an even more interesting history! Especially since it is related to the Washington family! However the lady who does the guided tour is too explicit and becomes too long and too tiring...
Garrett Pelon
It was not for me. I'm glad it exists and the people were nice. It's very awesome that people care enough to volunteer their time to give tours.
Alan Dickey

VIVIANE MARTINEZ
Pretty historic place, with period furniture interesting guide that traces the life of the family who made this beautiful home
Guille Sere
In the heart of Georgetown, an incredible place, peaceful and with an architectural category worthy of the best neighborhoods in London, a beautiful walk that cannot be missed, this museum is one of the period properties to visit, and stroll through its main avenues full of original shops and cafes very neat and excellent coffee
Jorge Alfredo Blanco Sánchez
The place is worth visiting. An appointment is requested but if there are not many people they give you the appointment right there. The objects in the house are the originals as well as the distribution and the furniture. You can also walk around the gardens

Incredible, it's worth it! The best gardens in the Georegetown area.

A small house with a small territory, nothing interesting. We did not take a tour of the house, there was no time. Definitely not worth a special trip here.
