Reviews of Virginia Beach Surf & Rescue Museum
So fun! Nikki and Mark were knowledgeable and held the attention of both my 6&12 year old while still giving us the history. They even played a LONG game of Jenga with them! Wonderful place and wonderful people!
Wonderful collection of artifacts and exhibits from Virginia Beach’s extensive maritime history. A must-see for anyone who appreciates maritime and rescue history.
Having the privilege to visit this museum during off season I had the honor to receive a tour from Ms. Dana Sizemore Executive Director.
Dana brings a small town museum of a time past generation to whimsical life as she captures the time frame of the erra wonderfully.
Believe me, its definitely worth a stop and will be remembered long after another enjoyable day at Virginia Beach.
An awesome free museum with an array of Virginia and Coast Guard history of the area. The staff was nice and gave great additional information as well. I loved the ghost stories. They are pet friendly and had a bowl of water out front for my guy to get a drink on the hot day. The rocking chairs were also a great addition to take a break while talking to the staff.
Such a nice hidden gem right along the boardwalk. Past it quite a few time before we finally visited, but so happy we finally stopped. We walked around without a tour guide, but you can also get a guided tour. Price was very reasonable about $5-$10.
Historic Coast Guard Search & Rescue Museum
Amazing to see the 1930's paddleboards!
Awesome, free museum. We learned a lot and the staff were so knowledgeable and engaging. They obviously cared a lot about the subject.
We didn't get to go inside but the outside looked interesting and I enjoyed reading the plaques that were outside that told about what the place was. Sits right on the boardwalk with great views of the beach.
Great places it has a lot of history and educational things
Very neat cute little museum. Lots of info depending how long you want to spend reading. Two stories, 2 dollars.
It's interesting to see how things were done before the Coast Guard, electricity, phones, ship to shore radios, or any other technology. Real heros saving lives, and inventing devices still in (modified) use today.
Really enjoyed the history of the area! A must see!
You love history and find the way things used to be done fascinating do yourself a favor and visit this place
Surprisingly nice museum, truly enjoyed visiting! Only $1 to visit. My kids did a scavenger hunt, dressed up in old clothing and had a lot of fun. I enjoyed the history and stories of life saving and the area! Very nice small museum. Recommended!
I was going for a stroll on the boardwalk and stopped by the surf museum with my son for a change of scenery and some air conditioning. For just a few bucks we could read up on the history of the area but this place wasn’t really made for kids under six.
Plenty of exhibits, lots of history to be shared and even a fun video. If you read everything it would take an hour but a fast stroll can get you in/out in 15 minutes.
Great hidden gem on the boardwalk! This small museum was very interesting with a nice outdoor area to sit for a moment and interesting exhibits. Staff was very friendly. Our kids enjoyed the ghost walk as an evening activity
Very cool museum with a clean and interesting rentable space that opens up to the outdoors . Right at 24th Street stage. The exhibits are really informative too. Learned a lot about the surf and rescue history.
The ghost tour is awesome! They give you equipment at the end and let you hunt and the guides are willing to share their own experiences. It's so much fun!
Cool place to visit. Wonderful history! Interesting and factual information. The staff was friendly and helpful.
A detailed history of a bygone era. If you're a history buff and was previously in or is in the US Coast Guard this is a cool place to visit. Memorabilia and photos from a time when the USCG was The Lifesaving Service. The building itself reminds me of my old station in NC: Oregon Inlet.. (the old one under the dunes...south of the bridge.)
Awesome detail with lots of things to read and learn.
Really nice displays and history of the surf and rescue as well as the coast guard. Nice gift shop with goods from local artists, which is great to not have everything made in China.
Great place to visit at Virginia Beach! Helpful and knowledgeable staff, nice facility, and very interesting items and storyboards. Just the right size for about an hour visit give or take. Enjoy! :)
This museum has emulated the Mariners museum by dropping admission charge to only $1. It is full of historic artifacts and fascinating stories from the turn of the 20th century.
Very nice museum
Amazing museum with a great staff that was not only wonderful to talk to but very knowledgeable.
Great little museum. Staff very informative.went on the ghost tour, b/c of weather we stayed inside the museum, affordable, definitely worth the time

Great place to visit. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Interesting place to learn about how boat rescues happened and the history about the area.
Enjoyed the Coast Guard history and the rescue films. Ignored the surf stuff, not interested. Could use more history of the Coast Guard like was there before.
Fun,cool museum! Definitely recommend stopping in to check it out!
Love this place! Very interesting and great information on Virginia Beach history and more!
Only a donation to enter neat place you couldn't go up to the top of the tower though
A modest museum that took a ton of effort by VB citizens to save. Very much worth it to go and visit.
I learned a lot about the past how the Navy gave their lives and I found a ship that my father was on when he was in the Navy
Great little museum with some interesting history about Virginia Beach. Do the scavenger hunt!

One of our many stops on the beach. This is such a great family beach!!
Very good for search and rescue on that part of the coast. Neat little place.
Very informative and a nice gift shop.
I wish they better publicized online that they close for the season
Nice place, but you ought to pay 4 bucks for each person!
