Incredible way to spend an afternoon! Give yourself more than an hour so you can read and listen all you like. So much history. Great tunes. Interactive exhibits. Reminders of musicians you've loved and forgotten over the years. The museum is taking COVID precautions and you're asked to book tickets starting at a particular time and to wear a face mask. The employee at the front desk was so genuinely sweet and really brightened my day.

I was there during museum hours. It is an interactive museum with the history of blues from Africa to current times and it’s impact on different genres of music . You can even write and mix your own blues song thanks to Jack White.

From WC Fields to Robert Johnson to BB King to Chuck Berry to ZZ Top to Valerie June, this covers the vast history of Blues music in the US and even abroad. Fun to see the old sheet music, the instruments and even stage costumes. There's a cool interactive "write your own blues song" set of touch-screen computers… as well as instruments to play, films to watch, and boys and classic rock legends to add to your digital playlist. Very fun. Wednesday nights (and maybe others nights too—I'm not sure) the Blues Museum has a jam session—sign up to get on stage and play or sing your favorites. Worthwhile for any music lover.

The museum was just the connection I needed to my cultural roots. The experience involved not just seeing but actually being a part of it. The interactive "Make your own blues record" was so much fun that I lost track of time. If you visit St.Louis make this part of your itinerary you will not be disappointed.

Very cool interactive museum if you are into music and want to learn the history of the blues. There are so many artifacts and things to read which tell you all about blues and its origins. Laid out in chronological time order you easily progress through the decades of blues music history.

Must stop on your visit through town. The tour through the museum will take about 45 minutes. Great interactive exibits. The is a also a gift shop. The staff is so friendly and helpful. One of the three museum must sees on your visit here; also the City Museum, and SLAM, the St. Louis Art Museum.

There were a lot of informative displays to read. I would have liked to have heard more music in the museum. There were a few relics on display like clothes and instruments from blue artists, but I would have liked to have seen more of that type of stuff.

Plenty of parking in the back for a fee. I was lucky enough to find a spot on the street. I love the blues, so I loved everything about this museum. Well put together with plenty of displays. Just beautiful and packed with lots of information. They have a really nice gift shop and souvenirs were affordably priced. If your in the area be sure to stop in.

AMAZING history and exhibits. The styling of each exhibit was very clever and there are quite a few interactives, including creating your own blues song as you travel through the museum. The staff was so friendly and come with so many recommendations if you're visiting from out of town. DEFINITELY recommend!

After having toured the Delta Blues trail in Mississippi and Memphis, we really enjoyed this museum. This place did a great job of showing the interactions between Blues and other musical genres and how they interplayed. We also really liked the number of interactive parts that walked you through how the Blues musical form worked.

Every Thursday they have a Blues Jam session that they call "Sittin On the Porch". Musicians and vocalist can come in, sign up, and play/sing. It's all unrehearsed and best of all, FREE!! I got up there and sang for the first time last week. It was awesome!!!! The musicians and host are all very welcoming and friendly. And the talent....😱😱 They recently began live streaming on Facebook. Check it out on their Facebook page!!! Also, if you get hungry, they allow you to bring food in, but only from the restaurants near by, such as Sugarfire which is right next door. And there's also a bar, but the place is still family friendly. So, you should totally check it out!!

A comprehensive compilation of the blues and jazz movement in the USA from the early days when blues emerged as self expression of slaves to it's marriage with jazz and public acceptance that grew with time. Nice collection and a concert venue with regular performances.

We wrote our own song and felt accomplished. Such an easy paced place with much to learn and enjoy. Howlin Wolf continues to be a star. By the end of the tour we had chosen Blues names for ourselves Uncle Ornery featuring Lil Ma and Blue Eyed Hazel. A memorable place to visit again and again!

This is a little gem of a museum located in downtown St Louis. It was not busy at all, but housed a wonderfully done set of exhibits including a ton of information about the early blues Legends. I especially enjoyed the interactive exhibits as well as the collection of photography. The lady running the gift shop was kind and informative. If you love The blues, this would be a great stop!

Great price and location. Smaller music museum, but worth the stop. I gave it 3 stars due to content/exhibits being more tailored to blues-influenced musicians than the actual blues players. I saw nothing on Billie Holiday and only small snippets of others, Count Bessie, Robert Johnson, Etta James, etc.

Not the biggest or most expansive Museum, but the trip through was extremely enjoyable, and informative. The combination of media, just the right amount of memorabilia, and interactive displays was really a great experience. Connecting Blues to Gospel, Jazz, Rock, Hip Hop, and Social media phenomenon shows it's really a music for everybody. If you are looking for a boatload of photo opportunities, this might not be the museum for you, but if you are looking for the continuing story of the backbone of American music, this place is excellent. If I had to knock anything, I'd like some non-linear elements, and maybe one section, say in the photo gallery, where there was a docent (maybe a musician) explaining elements of the blues, and playing with a tip jar. I've been to several linear topical museums like this, and by far, this one is the best. If it were in a wing of the Smithsonian, it wouldn't be out of place. If I lived in St. Louis, I would volunteer to be a docent. Haha.

A must see for all music lovers! I only wish there was more! Luckily we were told a new exhibit is coming soon. We saw a Sunday show in the intimate venue, loved it. SugarFire shares the building, but if you're wanting to eat come early! Their line is out the door in the afternoon and they sold out on memorial day before 7pm. The museum is expertly done. Its fun and entertaining, and the offer if live music for only $5 more is a steal!

This was fascinating, informative, and such a glorious way to spend an hour of our day! Deborah at the ticket desk is a LIGHT and the kindest person I've ever met. The entire exhibit is a walk down memory lane for music my parents would talk about! And music we listen to now! Definitely recommend this tour and the gift shop is great!

Found this place after eating next door. They had live music playing and shares bathroom with the resterant. Deb at the front desk spotted us and asked what we had planned for the evening. The museum was closed but the theater hall was open. It was our last night in town and we where just headed back to the hotel, but after she talked to us we decided to go check out the live music. This was a Thursday night and there is free admission and they even have a bar with affordable drinks. My entire family had a great time even the kids. This is like an open jam session so there was a bunch of different instruments and everyone did a great job lots of talent in that room.

I was a very nice museum but I wish that they had more. It contained many stories and pictures of the important cultural impact of the blues on America, but I would have liked something more. No Lucille? What about a guitar played by Matt Murphy or Lead belly? I really enjoyed the make your own record experience.

There is so much to read, see, and interact with there. I only wish we did not go so late in the evening to fully enjoy the facilities. It also made me have a greater appreciation for the genre of music and for those who gave so much to it.

This museum was surprisingly good!! It walks you through the history of blues, its origins, and its influences on other genres through current day. It features many photos and information about blues musicians, their influencers, and those they inspired. There was an extra gallery with a special exhibit of photos of blues musicians. There are video clips of blues musicians performing. The most unique feature is the interactive musical activities that allow you to play the spoons, washboard, shakers, etc, along with musicians on a video screen. Also the writing of blues lyrics, and playing guitar or piano on a touch video screen. I enjoyed it and think kids would like the interactive activities too.

Awesome museum. Great interactive displays that take you chronologically through the history and significance of the Blues. Friendly staff. I really enjoyed the interactive jug band where you play an instrument and sections where you listen to original songs with the modern inspired music back to back.

Have enjoyed her tribute to Albert King show twice now, last time with special guest Shirley King ( B.B. King’s daughter). WOW...top notch musicians... what a show!!

Fantastic concert venue! Excellent sound and lighting. Not a bad seat in the house. Lamont and the Hadley Band are terrific performers that totally engage with their audience. The Museum is well done with great photos, stories and memorabilia. This should be a regular for St Louisans that appreciate the Blues and R&B and a must stop for St Louis' visitors.

I loved the National Blues Museum! It was interesting to read about the effect that blues has had on non-blues artists. Blues impact is audible in the works of traditional pop and rock artists such as the Rolling Stones, The Beatles, and Eric Clapton. I appreciated the inclusion of these artists in the displays. I also enjoyed the kiosk where you could mix a blues track.

I went expecting to be done in 15 minutes, but was pleasantly surprised with a tour through Blues history. As promised by the ticket agent, one area will have a bunch of blues musicians I've never heard of, but that was an awesome part. Seeing the rich history of blues and the people that gave the music heart. There are a lot of interactive exhibits that are a lot of fun. Like stepping up the mixer board and learning how that job can make all the difference in how a song truly sounds. Mix it one time with a harmonica sound turned up, then put it in the background and turn up the guitar to find out you made a completely different song. We also loved getting to play in the virtual blues band. When the lights kick on and you are displayed up on the video board playing your instrument along with the other players, it's fun... Even if you don't know a thing about making music. It might sound dorky, but it wasn't. My wife and I loved it. There are plenty of other interactive displays also. We had a great time on our visit and very glad we went. If you are visiting St. Louis like we were, I highly recommend this visit and then head over to Pi's Pizza across the street. That combo gave us a very enjoyable afternoon.

Definitely worth the visit. Happened to be there on a Thursday so we stuck around for the "semi-open Mike" performance that night in their stage area. Highly recommended. Small bar inside for beers to drinks. Grab food next door at the bistro or BBQ or wherever you want and bring it back. All seating was at tables. A great evening of local blues performers.

Visited last week and it was a great experience. My wife and I attended the Thursday night jam session and were pleasantly surprised by the experience, not to say that we had low expectations, it was far better than we could have imagined. Three hours of fun live music and a few performers that left us in awe. For us the standout was a harmonica player and vocalist named Chuck Loeb. The best part is that these happen weekly, are free to watch and are live streamed so I can watch them weekly in Utah. I only wish they would list the names of the people who performed so I could mention more of them, it was really that good. The next day we toured the museum and it was a cool experience. It is a basic museum but does a good job explaining the history of the blues in a way that anyone could understand. There are volunteers who are very helpful, the volunteer when we visited was actually Chuck Loeb and I couldn’t have been more pleased and he couldn’t have been more helpful. He even fired up the player piano and showed some of us how it is played. This place is a must see when visiting St Louis and I will surely be back.

This is a beautiful museum! State-of-the-art, fun exhibits, great blues art and memorabilia... Worth two trips! And Sugarfire is next door, which you can't beat. I just wish they'd do more with the gift shop, but that's sure no reason to stay home!

Go. To. The. Live. Shows. Thursday night porch jam is free and on fire. I wish I lived in this town because it was so incredible. The musicians are amazing. It's fun and organic and totally worth it. I just wish the museum was open during the evening because I couldn't get there during my work day. Can't wait to come back!

This place is worth a visit. The museum is nice and some times they have special events with blues singers. There is a lot of history here and they do a good job of letting you know how St. Louis contributed to that history. You could easily spend all day there. The gift shop is typical museum fare which is unfortunate. May not be good for small children because there is a lot of walking and not many places to sit. When you are done go to the BBQ joint next door and then take a nap.

Fantastic experience at the National Blues Museum in St. Louis! The tour is interactive and immersive. They welcome groups, and provide personal tours of the museum by highly trained tour guides that have the answer for any question you might have. As you go through the tour, you can create your own blues song at stations along the tour. At the end, you can choose to have your song sent to you via email. They also feature live bands, and invite the locals and tourists alike to attend concerts on sight featuring blues bands. This is a family friendly museum, and a great place to learn about St. Louis history and culture.

When you have a museum that is specific like this, is not very big. I was disappointed, but totally understood. I still enjoyed my visit here, and learned some things I did not know. I bought a blues compilation CD from the gift shop. I really enjoyed listening to it. If you visit st. Louis, and you appreciate the blues, you should definitely visit this museum.

This museum is a wonderful asset to downtown St. Louis. The exhibits are beautiful and they host plenty of concerts throughout the week. $15 is a bit steep since the museum isn't that large, but it's still very much worth checking out.

Wife and I are huge fans of old-school blues music, so when we saw that there was a museum for the blues in St. Louis we had to take a peek. Very nicely presented, the staff was very friendly, and the prices (even at the gift shop) are reasonable. If you even like blues music, make sure to stop and visit.

A wonderful place long overdue. I especially like the way that they recognize some of the current players in the area although I wish more of them were featured. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. It looks like they've got room to expand which I hope they do. Maybe a monthly feature propping a current local group or individual?

It's ok. I've been to other music places (Memphis, Nashville, Cleveland, etc.). Those were better but if you like music and especially the Blues then, sure add it to the list. $15 and you're out in an hour.

Ok museum for those with ADD. Only takes about an hour to walk around two if use all the interactive stuff that is aimed more at minors. It's more "a brief history of" rather than a true museum. Some notable exceptions though, no Etta James or Billy Holidayn or the cotton club. It is entertaining and worth the price though.

Ok, so this is a really nice museum BUT the coolest feature of this museum is NOT conveyed well. Using the interactive audio stations throughout the mueseum, you create your own song and subsequent albulm.... so take the time to enter your email and use each type of recording station. Also, it was a bummer that we couldn't collaboratively listen to the track while creating it (there is only one pair of headphones at each station).
