Reviews of Museum at the Gateway Arch
Adam Newbold
Wow, what a great museum. It was engaging and really well thought out. Lots of interactive elements to attract all ages. It's not a boring museum at all. Plus, it's free to visit. My family of 4 really enjoyed our time here and learned a good deal about the history of this area. I'd highly recommend a visit.

Visited on a Thursday morning. We got tickets to ride up to the top of the arch, and visited the museum while waiting. I highly recommend, as it’s a national park masks are required inside. We had no wait. Very informative and fun. Had interactive sections. They only thing I didn’t like how pricey the cafe was. The bathrooms were clean.

Wonderful experience. The views were terrific and the museum informative. The inside of the tram was tight, but an enjoyable ride. The gift shop has many options for souvenirs.
Its just cool. Thats really the bottom line. Its the signature thing to do in St. Louis, it almost define the city itself! Its a must do. Jaw-dropping brilliant feet of engineering .From the thrilling views from the top of arc to the bottom and amazing stories, a visit to the Gateway Arch is an experience that never fails to inspire.
From the thrilling views to the amazing stories, a visit to the Gateway Arch is an experience that never fails to inspire. Whether you have a few hours or a full day, you’ll find activities to please every member of your party. Attractions include the Tram Ride to the Top of the Gateway Arch, the Museum at the Gateway Arch (opened July 3, 2018), a documentary film about the construction of the Arch, shopping at The Arch Store, a new Arch Cafe, and cruises aboard the Riverboats at the Gateway Arch. Tickets sell out early and often - advance purchase strongly recommended. Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

The arch museum is amazing with so much history ready to learn in wonderful visual displays. Come early so you can spend more time in the museum. My kids loved the Junior Ranger program. It helped us all to learn and take away more from our visit. The arch tour is great. Don't miss out!
Melissa Farthing
Absolutely fascinating. This free museum is better than several museums I've been to where I had to pay exorbitant amounts of money to enter. So many interesting exhibits and artifacts. I love how each section represents a different time period, going back to the 1700s all the way to today. I wish I had more time to really absorb everything. You could easily spend 2+ hours if you read through the text and watched the interactive videos. I especially appreciated learning more about Native American history and how the museum didn't sugarcoat the hard stuff.

The arch is a US National Park. Be sure to bring your pass to get in. But if don't, the cost is reasonable. The museum and the ride to the top of the arch are a greatly uplifting experiences. It reminded me how great the USA is and how much we should treasure our past and our future as a nation.
Brenda Morton
The Gateway Arch was amazing! My husband purchased our tickets online and we were able to just go straight there after checking into our hotel. We took an Uber to the Arch so there was no worries about where to park. It was beautiful! We sat down in the little Cafe there and had a few drinks while we waited for our time to get in line. Our tour was scheduled for 5 pm. We got in line and we were all given the opening speech about the Arch and it was very interesting. Once we got to the seats our little cabin held 5 seats. We got to the top and the doors opened and OMG!😲 it was AWESOME I love the view! Also I must mention that mask 😷 are required in the Arch. I would definitely recommend visiting..

Can we call this a must see? It’s reasonably priced and in a nice park where you can spend plenty of time. The museum itself provides plenty of GREAT information and is nicely organized with videos, photos and props to really show how St. Louis came to be.
Going up into the arch is a cool adventure, I don’t want to spoil any surprises but I would say, plan ahead and whether you grab the North or South tram does not make much of a difference. You’ll have roughly 10 min up at the top of the arch which was a very reasonable amount of time. Take plenty of pictures and enjoy!
The food at the cafe was also pretty good!
Finally, the staff here are incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, and generally pleasant. Listen to them to really get the full experience, they really explain everything incredibly well!
Hugh Pickens
Had a wonderful time at the arch. I was in St. Louis to see an exhibition at the Pulitzer art museum and had some free time so I figured I would just come down for an hour or two. We ended up spending the entire day there. The museum itself is first rate. Don’t miss the movie about how the arch was built. I found it fascinating. The ride itself of the interior of the arch was a lot of fun and it was very well organized.
Erik Younger
The museum and arch are a marvel of history and engineering. Although this is the smallest national park in America, it is a great place to spend an afternoon. Awesome exhibits, movie highlighting the building of the Arch, and the ride up to the top is breathtaking. Everyone in America should visit at least once!
Kevin Wilson
We been to the Arch twice before. They have updated & improved the museum & the trams to the top of the Arch.
We took our 6 year old granddaughter with us. She had a good time in the museum & a great time riding the tram to the top of the Arch.
The tram to the top is only slightly claustrophobic. It seats 5 people per pod & there are 8 pods per tram. The doorway is plexiglass & allows you to see the inside of the Arch as you travel up & down. The observation area at the top is fairly spacious. One slight complaint I have is that you're only allowed to stay up top for 10 minutes. We still enjoyed it very much & our granddaughter will always remember it.
Word of note: Parking can be problematic on busier days. Find public parking garages in advance & be prepared for a moderate walk.

Amazing experience!! The museum goes deep under the Gateway Arch and explores the entire timeline from the Westward Expansion to current day upkeep of the Arch. Artifacts used to travel thr country and tools designed to construct the arch can all be found in the museum. They have military discounts and tours of the Arch what seems to be every 10-15 minutes. The tour up the Arch lasts about 40 minutes with only 10 of that being up at the top so be sure to get your pictures/videos quick! Otherwise, definitely worth the visit and I will be back, next time we'll before closing.... The time crunch allowed me to get these pictures of the sunset though!! (Tour at 5:05pm on a Friday, ticket $12 for military).
Maureen Powers
We did the combination tickets for the ride to the top of the Arch and the boat tour. Both were really awesome! All employees were super friendly and helpful. Definitely a must see when in St. Louis!! I would also definitely order the e-tickets online ahead of time a few days to a week or two.

This place was a great experience, my family had a lot of fun. It’s huge, we were not able to explore the museum entirely in 3 hours. Staff was great and full of energy, if you go you should try the scary room performance, it was great. Alcoholic drinks weren’t expensive, not the greatest selection of food; I suggest you eat before or after. Parking it’s 10 dollars if you want to park inside. Also the caves are very cool and it’s about 7 floors so a lot to see. I enjoy all the slides going down . Would definitely recommend.

It was our fist time there as we were visiting friends that weekend. The place was nice for the most part. Very well kept. Interesting information as well as the great viewings of statues and pictures. Only thing is that the staff and workers weren't very helpful or welcoming. They didn't speak, nor offer instructions or help navigate and understand the facility. No greeting when entering the building and nothing was said when leaving, just a look. A place can be very nice but good customer service and hospitality can make it even more memorable!!
Bonnie Gross
Information was well presented. Enjoyed the interactive traveling kiosk. The ride to the top was slightly claustrophobic but it is only 4 minutes long. We were here on a clear day and could see for miles and miles! Wonderful!
Jeffrey stone
Visited this while in town for work. Took the tram ride to the top, that was pretty cool. I didn't realize there was a tram in it. Staff was curious and helpful, everything was neat and clean.
Renae Grimes-Avery
Fabulous museum! And it's not necessary to take the trip to the top of the Arch since they've made a special display area within the museum where cameras show large screen, live views of both East & West. Be sure to allow yourself time to genuinely tour the Museum. You'll be glad you did. 👍 …

Great place to visit in Saint Louis!! Actually it’s a must. Amazing experience going all
The way up to the very top of the arch, the view is breathtaking. Museum is also wonderful so is all the surrounding area, we loved it and totally recommend to everyone.
Wendy P.
Very cool going to the top. Make sure to give yourself plenty of time, a few hours at least. That way you can check out the museum and go to the top! They have it down to a science on getting people to the top and back down without it being super crowded. Purchase your tickets in advance to save a ton of time! Also there is a security check point, and they don't play. They were disorganized and a little aggressive with the process. Belts, phones coats, purse, pretty much everything has to go through the x-ray machine. But hey, they're keeping everyone safe🤷🏼♀️
Jessica
It’s free. Why not? All the way in the back it shows it scaled on a wall with other structures. That and the camera view from the top are the best parts of the place if you don’t want to go up.
Jonathan Reynolds
Wonderful experience! Not as "friendly" as some of the other National parks, but a busy as they are, its to be expected. Still a beautiful museum and facility.
Jon Rustad
We visited on a Tuesday afternoon during our spring break and the park was not busy at all. It helped that it was a rainy day, but most of the attraction is inside. They even let us go up earlier than our ticketed time due to several no-shows. All the workers were very friendly and the environment was great! The only drawback was you had to wear a mask on the tram ride up and down, but they provided one. You also could take it off up at the top.
Michelle Headrick
The Gateway Arch and museum offers so much history. The museum helps make learning fun for individuals of all ages. The gift shop has a great variety of items to cover every type of souvenir. The park rangers working throughout the grounds and inside the museum are always friendly and helpful.

Quite nice experience
Sadly we got a young male guide which we were unable to understand, he was mumbling and speaking too fast for the microphone to catch what he was saying.
We could sometimes hear the next groups guide which was way better. So it was a hit or miss and we missed unfortunately.
I can recommend going up the tower very good outpost, windows somewhat clear.
If you are claustrophobic the ride up and down are not for you.
When we went through security they threw around with our stuff my phone flipped 3 times in the box and got a scratch on the camera. I have it insured so I didn't make a scene.
But when you are forced to put your belongings into others care they can at least handle it with respect.
I had my S22 Ultra 1Tb special edition ($2050 USD)+ Garmin Titanium watch ($1620 USD)
!!prices are what I paid not what they are worth as used today!!
A total of $3670 USD and they threw it around like it was trash....
Completely unacceptable. And I hope they will train their security better in the future.

Awesome visit. Just wanted to stop by and look at the arch but got caught up on the enormity of it. There is a free museum to visit that shows history of early St Louis. Didn’t have the time to ride up the arch, maybe next time.
Robert Faulkner
Pleasantly surprised. Great museum with some nice artifacts. The video on the arch was really good. The view from the top was fantastic
Kaitlin Bugh
It was pretty cool. Gift shop was a bit pricey as well. Love the escalators though.
Parking was difficult.
Jeffrey A Crane
Today was a good day to visit the Arch, Wasn't crowded at all. We went up in the Arch and was surprised to see how few people was going up. Had a nice time.
Omar Vazquez
Great visit. You will surely enjoy all of the exhibits. Worth the price of admission
Lydia Bauer
Really cool exhibits. My only complaints are that the sound system is very difficult to understand and the interiors of the tram cars could use a refinishing considering their recent additions and refurbishments elsewhere. Otherwise, a great, quick experience up, the museum below is top tier!
Colleen Durante
Great details, interactive exhibits, braille & large text options for many shots.
As an individual with a degree in history, I appreciate the willingness you address the complicated history of American colonialism on the plains.
Keila KelRo Mel
I discovered so many new facts and the movie was informative and entertaining as long as you are interested in history and architecture, even jut a little. The food was overpriced and underwhelming jtlyk. Make sure you have at least 2hrs minimal to do everything if not more time. I love it!
Annie Jones
This was a great experience! Our son earned his Jr Ranger badge by completing a booklet while visiting the museum portion below the arch. This was new for us and we thoroughly enjoyed all of the information. The arch was/is a great experience, including the tram ride up and view from the top.
james f
Well worth the 12 dollars for the least expensive ticket which is the tram ok nly ticket. The museum is included.younrude up and get 10 minutes. Which frankly is all you need.
The pods that take you up are tiny balls that seat 5. Kinda claustrophobic..
Great displays and artifacts with drawings and such about the founding of St. Louis as a fur trading post. History about the relationship between settlers and the Native American culture from the 1700's to today.
History of the port and building in of the city, the Heads bridge and of course the Arch.
Lots of engineering detail on the Arch's design be Sarinen and the construction methods.
L Cas
Great experience! The Arch is remarkable and a fun ride! Lots of history can be learned by visiting the museum and riding the tram.
J Lane
I've been up in the arch several times so I spent more time at the museum. Very educational for adults and children.
Najua Idheileh Jarvis
Fantastic place with a great view. It was kinda hard to listen to the tour guide, but other than that, the experience was amazing.
Judith Perez
Excellent option to visit. You also get the ride to the top and have a wonderful view!!
DemeRossy Arellano
Excellent experience if you go to San louis missouri you have to go the museum and the arch
Dale Box
Fantastic place filled with lots of great historical items and knowledge.
Shirley Snedeker
Wonderful place to spend a bit it time or a day.
To go up in Arch there was a fee, but the museum was free to visit.
Facility is beautiful and well maintained. Nice cafe and gift shop in base with museum as well.
Museum had very interesting displays and was educational.
RONALD PROTHRO
Great representation of the regional history. High quality and well detailed exhibits.
Tod Kuntzelman
Free to visit the museum, costs to go up the Arch. Better reserve tickets for the Arch ride in advance. To enter the museum and to get to the Arch ride you must go through security and metal detection. Plan ahead, as if it's busy add 10 to 15 mins to your visit.
Alexandria Kennedy
We enjoyed visiting the monument. There was a nice view up top and the visit included a very informative tour. The tickets were priced okay and they do offer military discount. On the day we went there was a delay and took a while to actually start. They are still socially distancing and requiring masks.
Victor Figueroa
Museum was nice haven't being there for about 40 years so the my experience was like first time visit.
Chuck Bastie
#theholychucktruck loved the arch in St Louis!!
Remember, Theres no such thing as bad boys, only boys with bad hair ;)
Thanks Overkill and Marc Anthony Hair Care ;)
Kevin Anderson
What an amazing place! Interactive video displays and items display that you can touch and feel. The staff are friendly and willing to answer any questions. A wonderful display of the history of St Louis and the planning and building the St Louis Arch. Plan for at least a couple of hours to see it all! Highly recommend!
Wendell Shelton
Didn't get to tram up, but the museum itself was awesome! It was broke up into sections, and plenty of seating in the middle of them all, allowing you to view them at your own pace. Perfect for people who can't walk a lot, like me! Be prepared to walk a while to get to it though. I wish they had their own parking.
Ali
The musuem was neat! Cool hidden museum near the gateway arch to learn more on the history of at Louis, the area, the arch, etc. Very cool stuff. You can go on a tram ride up the arch but you have to pay extra. The museum itself is free. Fun time and clean inside!
Margelee Hylton
Amazing time! Relics of the past were tastefully displayed & history outlined with simplicity!
erin stratton
I highly recommend riding the tram to the top. It was worth the price.
LaVern Glosson
Great family place to visit. Take a tour of the Arches/ Gate for spectacular views or, meander around the expansive paved walking trails beneath the beautiful trees. Or chill out on the River Boat ride. This was a great place to stop and stretch our legs.
Monica Jakubos
So well organized. I appreciate the historical sections in addition to the geographic and architectural information.
Philip Dennis
Fantastic museum with exhibits catering to both young and old. It provides engaging education about the city and its role as a gateway to the west. If you have children make sure to ask the Park Rangers about the Jr. Park Ranger Program!
Kris Struwe
Wow! Well worth the time, cost and parking headache. There are multiple options for the movie, tram to the top of the Arch and river tours. There is a full museum in the lower level asking with a cafe. The tram: cars are limited to 5 people each with 8 cars per tour, space is limited so don't take much with you, there are a decent amount of steps that may be climbed so we aware of your physical limitations.
D. Majesty
I had to come back to St. Louis, when I was here last time I didn't get a chance to go to the top of the Arch the ticket was sold out. This time I was able to get a ticket and see how it looks. It was nice experience to see those tiny elevators and tiny windows.
Yvette Russell
The view was Spectacular!
Information on The Wall's incredible! Even if your driving by, take the time to know Our country, You definitely will be glad you went. Everyone Will
James Gleb
From the Park Rangers to the staff at the museum, very friendly and helpful people.
Need to devote some time to the museum all by itself. Very interesting experience.
The St Louis Arch is amazing!...
Billy Morris
Great photo location! The parking meters weren’t working right so we did have to go drive around and find a parking garage but it ok. I’ve always wanted to come see the Arch and I’m glad I finally had the chance to with my family. The grass areas all around the Arch were ripped off which wasn’t great but we did find a bench to sit for bit. This was a great stop and photo opportunity. I really enjoyed our trip to St. Louis and we will definitely be returning.
Salam America
very good place and educational. when you come to St.Louis you should definitely go there
Kris Peterson (krisp - she, her)
I hadn’t been to the new museum since it opened and I visited the old one maybe once in the early ‘90s.
It’s well worth a visit - spend some time getting to know the lay of the land (haha!) and how The Arch and surrounding areas were shaped by movement of settlers to the West and how StL grew over time.
Jed Quinn
It's just so tall! The ride up and looking out the windows was way cool! Learning from the movie and museum about the inspiration and creation of the monument was sooo interesting! The videos taken during construction were fascinating! Loved the cappuccino and found great books at the gift shop.
Salvatore Scotto
Nice to visit. Good experience in Saint Louis
Azziem Hassan Underwood
Awesome place to visit.
#AzziemVacation
Tiffany Brandell
Vastly improved since the grungy, depressing place it once was. They've done a fantastic job. The signage is great, and the museum was so much more in-depth.
Aryan Rodriguez
Really worth the experience and the time
Kayla (kaylalala)
The museum is very interesting and informative and a great way to spend some time waiting for your ride to the top! There's a lot of historic information as well as facts about the arch.
Antonia Guevara
This place is a must to visit if coming to St. Louis. The experience is wonderful. The history is amazing. The view from above is great. Really enjoyed this place.
Katie Mccollum
Good history. Do not take the tram if you are taller then 6 feet or afraid of heights. Compartments are small and will show the girders all the way up.
Brenda Randall
Beautiful displays of history for the area.
Aravind Anna
Nice museum with lots of artifacts
Dan Burdick
Breath taking and amazing.... truly an aw inspiring sight! It shines so bright when the son hits it! You don't really know how big it is until you get up close to it. Its amazing and everyone needs to see it.
Susan Sisco-Berry
You can't visit St. Louis without seeing the arch! Even if you don't care to go to the top (and yes, the ride up is a bit warm and crowded) just seeing it in person is well worth your time and trouble!
Jim Firestine
Incredible views and displays.
S. Franco
Had an adventure was amazing to see. Parking around the area super cheap. If you make it here check it out we even just enjoy sitting in the grass watching the sun set.
KB Raif MD
New museum and entrance is much nice. Very well done. Must see if visiting STL. Very informative. , local history , museum. Ride to top of arch and informative movie. Surrounding park, river side and Laclede landing is added bonus.
Lissy Winkler
We had a great experience. The museum was a great experience for my kiddos. We did the tram ride to the top of the arch and that was a blast.
Kathy Gilmer
Hadn't been since the renovations and it is very nice! Easier to get into and more welcoming! Masks were still required due to it being a national park. Also now they limit time to 10 min once you are up top. Used to be unlimited. Great experience and all staff were very nice! Our 12 yr old loved it!
Michael Hayek
Great history of the Arch and St. Louis.
Kenneth Coons
Had great time looking at history presented of the area and life of the people.
Jason Newton
Amazing experience, pay the few extra dollars to see the movie on how it was built!!
tosha edins
definitely a cool place to see! maybe one day someone will figure out a way for wheelchair bound tourists to experience the view from inside the arch.
Ruth Drake
Tickets for the tram up the arch and movie extra. Museum is free and worth seeing
Ron Darak
Loved the views! All the Park Rangers were super friendly.
Ken Long
The Gateway Arch museum and the ride to the top is an excellent experience. The park is nice, clean and well maintained. The personnel at the park are very friendly and professional. You can enter the museum and store area free even if you don't go on the ride. You just have to pass through a security checkpoint.
ethan Gilder
Very cool experience. Has interactive things as well. I enjoy history and so I really enjoyed it. Free to enter the museum and the Cafe has pretty good food.
Vijay W
Unique experience with a breathtaking east side view of Illinois over Mississippi river and West side view of St Louis, Missouri from a height of 630 ft
Lavender Litondo
Fascinating history about the building of the archway. I also enjoyed the ride to the top of the arch where we could view each side of the Mississippi river on both the Illinois and Missouri side. I was bummed that I missed the river cruise along the Mississippi river. I had fun though. It was definitely a place I would love to visit again.
Gwen Phillips
This museum is a must see. Very interesting and informative about the history of Missouri.
Cherie Trail
Parking was weird...it was a brick lot that was slanted right up to the Mississippi River. The Gateway Arch is free to enter the grounds and museum under the base. Only need to pay for tram to go up inside. Lots of history of the expansion westward inside the museum. My 8 and 9 yr old children loved it.
Matt Douglas
Great place to visit and especially for people who visit landmarks. Only thing I didn't like is now they rush you and only give you 10 minutes at the top and separate the top so you can't go all the way across
Amy Yoder
The museum was so interesting! I enjoyed going through it!
The Summit Church
Loved it! So glad we stopped. A must visit if u are near St Louis. Worth the trip.
Kimberly Schueler
The arch is just unbelievable and exciting to visit. I'm afraid of hights but you dont have a feeling of vertigo. No scary at all.
Seeing the museum which tells about about the history, engineering, views and people are so interesting.
Restaurant is health conscious but expensive. Outside you can sit and play in the water fountain, bring a lunch to eat in the park which is right there. Wonderful walk through the park which is safe for all.
Highly recommend making reservations the day before, tickets go fast. There is a North and South you can choose from.
R H
I haven't been since they redid everything and it is completely different and much better. The costs for going up have raised as has the theater prices, but the museum is still free and better than it was.
Suzi D
Great museum. So much to see and learn about. Best part is it's free!
Anne Hunter
Museum is good. The movie about the erection of the arch was fabulous and worth every penny. Trip up the arch was fascinating. View was great
Stacey Hummel
Awesome must do, totally bucket list check off, the museum is very cool, it's under ground and free the tram to the top of the Arch is pretty incredible. Going 630ft in the air to the top of the st.louis arch way "Gateway to the west" incredible.
Celestin Webb
Learned so much about the arch!!! The museum is free and validates parking! We had seen the arch several times and now we know so much more. The movie is worth the money we did not go up to the top because it was a foggy morning.
Nic Denton
Outstanding. Our youngest didn't want to go up once we got inside the pod. He and his brother were doing push ups on the floor once they took in the views from above. He said heights was his goliath and was proud of himself that he conquered his fear.
Sandy Waldschmidt
Loved the updates since I visited many years ago. Great job on how efficient and timely everything happened. Bought the tickets online and never had to wait very long in any line!
Deniz Mirik
Loved it! I love history tho. They design it good. Everyone see little bit of American history.
Entered Letters
I basically love everything about the arch. It's just a cool stop, probably the coolest spot in the Midwest. This museum is a great place to learn a bit more before heading up.
Rolinda S
10 mins at the top of the arch went by fast, but overall it was a great experience.
sandra lawson
Wow!! One of the children was a little scared going up, but totally calm on the way down. Took lots of pictures. So much to see and learn! Worth every penny and every minute!!
Joshua Rose
This was my first time back to the Arch in a long time. The whole museum has been updated along with a lot of the area above ground. It is way nicer than it used to be, and HIGHLY recommend going!
Try and go up into the arch too!!
Bill Smith
Interesting to see the history of St Louis and how the arch came to be known as the gateway to the west
Daylynn Gardow
Loved it because the Arch is such an amazing structure with a neat museum and it seems to be decently kept up, but since the last time I was there St. Louis has fallen far for cleanliness, we even saw a used needle on the ground. So GROSS!
Tootie Bergen
I hate history, but was absolutely fascinated by this exhibit. I was totally absorbed in the exhibits.
Joshua Lawson
Great review of westward expansion, the Louisiana purchase, and the role St Louis played in all of it. It was busy but not overwhelmingly so. Museum is free, but parking at the Stadium East lot is $9 if you purchase in advance. Only about a 2 block walk to the museum.
Missaigon Thu-Hằng Do
Amazing view as going up by trams (North or South trams) from the top of the Arch at 192 meters (630 ft.). We had tickets for River boat on Mississippi.
Jose Arevalo
Great experience!; I'd like more historical and ongoing figures about the many kinds of people, including slavery, Native Americans, recent immigrants through this gateway. This "gateway" is a living symbol of this nation.
Connie Grimes
Lovely museum. We didn't have time to tour the entire museum, but what parts I did get to see were very well explained artifacts, photos, etc.
Kiersten Harris
Very informative, great displays, if history has any interest to you this is an excellent example of the transformation of old times into the now, and it is a fun example of how math is used to solve big hurdles!!!!
호동호동
Good cafetereria and many sightseeings.
David Harbour
I did not even realize it was here. It is free, anyone can visit. No tickets needed. Nice histoey of St Louis . It was an unexpected pleasure
Shane Yardley
Also free, but the ride to the top of Arch is minimal cost and worth the view.
Bryon Winger
Pretty cool place. Admission is a bit expensive, especially since you're so limited on how much time you can spend at the top (only 10 minutes). The food isn't worth it, but the little history museum is really good.
Shatila Grife
It was amazing I went when I was a kid but I don't remember much but when I just went with my husband I loved it
David R Gonzalez
An excellent in content, layout and presentation. The gift shop has a wide range of tasteful gifts and something for every budget. Once past security you could spend hours here. Tickets for ride to the top of the arch SHOULD be purchased in advance. The museum is free. Wear comfy shoes. For the museum walk about and for the walk to and from your vehicle. Parking nearby can be a challenge unless you're staying at a nearby hotel.
Mark Carlson
Outstanding museum talking about westward expansion. The updated museum and entrance are excellent. The arch and the grounds are beautiful.
Leo Pacino
Great place to reflect on our history.
mary ann holder
Loved all the exhibits at the museum! Very nicely themed with western expansion and history of St.Louis. Some interactive exhibits that were fun and informative for kids and adults. One was outfitting yourself for a wagon trip west...you had a budget, shopping list, and had to buy all you needed for the trip. Great little museum and it's free.
cowboy1chris
Museum was clean and a great contribution to teaching American history through interactive displays.
Cawey Ras
It was fun had a great time, good experience, enjoyed the museum as well
Al Kay
Great experience. 74 years old, and have never been to the top. Good experience, great view of Cardinals Stadium .
Traci Taylor
It was cool, I didn't know that they have a river boat tour.
Ashley Collins
Buy your tickets online! Do not wait until you get there to ask questions. My son is in a wheelchair and I didn't know if I would be able to leave his chair at the bottom and then he could transfer out. The tickets were all sold out by the time someone had answered my question. No worries, the museum was super cool and they do have a "replica" for those who couldn't make it to the top...Which is pretty neat!
Kiley Weber
This is a free museum inside the visitor center for the arch so if you’re not interested in the tram ride to the top you can still enjoy this free museum!!! You can spend 30mins to 3 hours here! There isn’t very easy accessible free parking but you can park in the lot pay for it and get it validated. Fair warning: you will have to go though security before making it into the museum due to it being a federal place/National park. This is the best place to wait around at while waiting for your tram ride to the top. This museum is a lot of reading and a lot to look at, there aren’t any interactive features so it makes it not ideal for small children who can’t read.
Amanda Martin
Was time to see next time going to take extra time enjoy the museum or going to the top of the gateway Arch was amazing
brian gibbons
Worth a ride if you have never done so, but things felt as though they needed an update as far as the tour was concerned.
Diedre Deering
When in St. Louis ... stop here! And leave plenty of time for the museum, tour, and movie. Buy tickets ahead of time!
Lucas Hellmer
The new museum was great to explore with the kids.
Chandra Johnson
Loved the museum! So we'll put together! So many interesting facts to read about and many interactive displays that kept my 6yr old and 4yr old interested!
Makenna Gott

Garrett R.
Great place to stop & learn more about history of the city & arch.
Carl Johnson
Once you get to the museum after a long standing in line was pretty cool. I would like for the instructors to speak a little clearly . It was very educational
Aaron Howell
Since it was revamped it looks amazing. The presentation and interactive displays are 100% awesome. Definitely a must see for those in the area or looking for vintage Americana
becca lynn

J.Scott Rinker
This is an amazing piece of engineering!

Jorge O Miranda
One of the main tourist attractiins in town.
Goose's Garage
Awesome place but not for people just stopping by. There is a limited amount of spots to go to the top. Order ahead to guarantee a spot.
Cj Macintosh
You go to the website it says they're open till 6:00 p.m. but the last tram goes up at 5:00 p.m. so basically they close at 5:00 p.m., they will not allow you law abiding citizens to have a concealed weapon in probably one of the United States most dangerous cities nothing feels more unsafe than being a fish in a barrel
Toni Smith
incredible experience. We loved it. Very glad we made the trip. We live 5 hours away
Roo H
Nice and clean, decent staff. Didn't get to see the tram because it was sold out. No big deal
Mary Reichert
Nice shops, nice to get food or drinks before your tour. 4mins up 3 mins down an 10mins while up there. Great view..
Quinn Ashley
This was very informative and a great place to bring your children. It was free and lost of great this to see and read about
Lane Schmidt
Went with my family to St. Louis for a weekend trip. Our very first stop was the Arch, it's got a lovely park and green space located around it, probably because it's a national park. Inside they offer a nice museum explaining the whole history of the Arch and some early American history as well, very thorough and the displays are super interactive so kids would love it. The best part is the ride to the top of the Arch, it's about a 30-45 minute experience (they time you at the top to help with social distance and such), you get in these special little pods that travel up and down the interior of the Arch legs, and at the top you can see for 30 miles either direction they say! The view is amazing on a clear day and you can feel the Arch sway in the wind at the top, it's really something!
Craig Holstedt
This was the first time to visit since the museum was renovated. We were really impressed that it tells a much more complete history of how the expansion of our country took place. A very good job done by the National Park Service.
Randal j Rhoades jr
We had an amazing time and it had a great gift shop. Really great info and neat stuff to see in the museum
Harry Cordon
Charles welcomed us and was very friendly and knowledgeable. He is the Gentleman in the cowboy hat as you walk into the welcome centre by the large screen projector. He is a volunteer here. He really made a huge difference to our visit. A huge thank you and respect to Charles and his wonderful family.
A wonderful museum full of great shows and lots of interactive and interesting exhibits.
To the Manager - please give Charles and his family a meal out well deserved. He really deserves it.
Please reply to this review confirming you have received this and your actions. He really is a great guy.
Priscilla Tejada
It's better to get the elevator tickets in advance. I just went just to see the free museum tour but the ticket to go up were sold out 😥
Oreozal
Went here in July 2021, informative history and artifacts.
Wonderful gift shop for gifts or even for yourself!
Mark Sutton
Great as always. First time to visit after the remodel a few years ago. Still a must when visiting St. Louis
Frederick Mack
Very informative, great food and people,an amazing experience in how it was built, a must see.
Alexis Vanicek
The museum was really cool. I enjoyed learning about the early history of the area. The gift shop has some amazing chocolatr fudge! Didn't go up the arch because the elevators freak me out, but it was still a fantastic trip.
Bob Rueter
So interesting! Love the broad coverage of history and the architecture
Steven Palmer
Very cool and interesting place to visit! Has lots of information on the history of the Arch!
Lonny Starsky
it's pretty cool for a museum built under a massive weather control device.
Terri Potter
View from the top was great
Ken A
Nice time, quality museum,fun time,decent coffee...great views
Brad VanderVegt
The museum and arch are fantastic and definitely worth seeing. We went over the weekend and there were multiple major activities occuring that had miles of streets closed and that made getting around a total nightmare. So it's definitely worth making a note of what may be going on in the downtown area and plan accordingly.
Kevin Wilson
So many historic experiences in side, and they offer a boat tour as well.
Dale Garwood
This is an excellent museum for learning about the history of the American West. The museum focuses particularly on St. Louis and it's significant role in the opening of the territory beyond the Mississipi River. The museum and the Gateway Arch are well worth visiting.
Brian Kivi
Really enjoyable and free. Loved the time-line layout. Worth seeing!
Eileen Madray
Highly recommend a visit. Take your kids. Share history!
Experience the view from the top
D Perry
Cool experience with alot of cultural history of the area. Nice free museum with option to ride tram to top of arch.
Gillian Frencer
Took the combination ticket for theatre, Arch and Missisippi boat ride - good value.
lana stamper
We enjoyed the whole museum!
Anthony
Much cooler in person than I thought it was in photos. An engineering marvel. Much respect to the size and design.
Sally Goodman
Had a blast thought it was just for kids...I was wrong!!!!@
Chris Ford
The remodel of the museum is nice. Traffic flow is a lot better and the history presented is much broader and inclusive than it used to be.
Kendra Fitzpatrick
Spent a long time here. Easily able to explain to others and have a lot of interactive stuff for kids (or adults ;) )
James Doan
I learned a lot more than I thought I would. Really well done museum full of nice artifacts and exhibits.
Tonya Gurdison
I think it is worth the trip up! The windows are tiny but you can see the whole city.
Amy Gomes
Very cool experience! The ride up top was thrilling and the view is spectacular. Worth the wait on a busy summer morning.
Julie Creech
Interesting and informative. So much to look at and learn.
Dean Fricke
We really enjoyed it!!!!! So amazing and fun!! Definitely recommend 👌 …
Gerald Tobey
Great informative displays not only about the Arch, but St Louis and the Western migration.
Tammy Wylie
Crowded, with lots of people all trying to see the same exhibit. Few benches, lots of walking. Elevator provided.
Loved the interview videos on the 2nd floor and the old time music video clips on the 3rd. Some real instruments and garments from the greats!
My favorite exhibit was the hand written notes which became the lyrics of famous songs.
Traffic is busy and Parking nearby is expensive, so if you can take the hop on/off tram it's best.
Gift shop has lots of tees, not many postcards. Across the hall you can buy cowboy hats!!
Ivan M
The museum got a lot of history and artifacts from different eras you also get to see the items used and the way the arch was designed! The 30 min documentary movie was worth the price if you don't want to read all about it they show it to you from start to finish and explain all the details and process of building it.
Luz Slgd
Loved this place. My kids enjoyed their time rangers where super friendly.
Khaner
Really cool and modern looking museum. When we went up in the arch the guides didint seem to have much experience or drive to share the history. But it was still a cool experience overall
BLUEGLUE SMURFBLOOD
Tons of information def be ready to spend half a day there reading to fully enjoy the history.
Brian Sawa
Enjoyed visit to the St Louis Gateway Arch. A must stop while traveling Route 66.
steve crawford
A lot of history spawned via St. Louis. This Museum tells it from a pretty good perspective. Must see.
RISE ABOVE
I wouldn't be so St. Louis if I didn't make this post
Benjamin Morgel
Fantastic exhibits very well done and very entertaining.
Joan H
Be prepared for a TSA type security check. If at level red covid precautions, you will have to wear a mask.
Michael DeWys
Extensive historical review of
the expansion westward from
Jefferson's vision of a coast to coast nation to the design
and construction
of the arch!
Roman Rzadkosz
What a great monument, place is worth it to see it. Am so happy that I could check another great North America landmark
dawn goodwin
Captivating floor to ceiling artwork and videos. Very modern, interactive and engaging. Impressed. Was just exiting from the arch tram and heading for my car but ended up drawn to wander the museum for 45 min
Matthew Kauffmann
Very informative museum. Interactive exhibits, lots of artifacts and information about westward expansion and the city of St Louis.
Nick Emeric
VERY very good museum one of the best if you love history. Reasonably priced with several sightseeing packages available.
Excellent rangers, customer and all facilities.
Bill Swathwood
The Arch museum was a nice stroll through St Louis history.
Brian Wilbur
This was a one and done trip for me. It's basically a cramped ride to the top of an old tower to get a view of the city from up high. It was cool but honestly I'd rather just fly in a helicopter or even skydive nearby where your view isn't restricted to a tiny window that you have to practically lay down to see out of. If you've never been it's a unique experience but one that I, myself, will not be doing again. There's way cooler things to do with 20 bucks in my opinion. I'm not a big fan of shoveling money into a corporate money pit and their little "museum", gift shop, and cafe are nice but not 14 dollar burger nice.
datasilo uk
Lovely place. Take your time to take it all in. Plenty of history.
Roger Slightom
This was a good experience overall and a required stop for any tourist. If you get lucky to have clear skies, the view is wonderful. It was cloudy so we didn't go up in the Arch, so I don't know the current price. The museum is free and much improved since the last time I visited. It was great to see they presented the true experience of how Native Americans were treated during the white expansion.
Toby Carmack (TinnMack7)
A must see for the shear size up close and right off the Mississippi River...it's open to go up inside to the top...!!!
Denny Stallman
Great historical museum
Very interesting information on the great western migration.
Tara Howard
The arch was so meat to see!!
William Oscar
There weren't any more trains going to the top and we got there around noon. So definitely order ahead
Lorenzo Sebastian
exelent place beautiful place, to mach history,
John Shaw
The arch museum has multiple exhibitions based chronologically on the history of the area from European settlement. There are many opinions from distinctly unique native American, Spanish, French and British settlers. Check out the viewing portals in the middle of the museum that allows you to see the view from the top of the Arch.
Daif _m
This photo taken in 2014 i was flying in a helicopter and I adjusted the timing to put the court in the middle of arch and here i share it to saint Louis beautiful place.
Tu Ffy
Great start to the Arch tour. Probably need no more than 45 mins.
Janice Mae
The museum has a lot of interactive and informative displays. Definitely a unique national park.
Tom Bentley
The new museum exhibit is outstanding. It's quite extensive and you can learn all about the history from a long time ago to current. Oh and don't forget to grab your ticket and go up in the arch.
Vaishnavi Soundar
I always enjoy museums, so I can’t really downvote this one. It was informative and I honestly walked in because I had some time to burn before my flight and was well engaged honestly! The museum entry was free of cost, though you did need a ticket to ride to the top of the arch.
The arch was the most underwhelming part though, nothing much really.
Apple Crates
Enjoyed the visit. Was on a Sunday lots of school kids running around. In the middle of downtown St Louis. Question the safety of location but beautiful park. Exhibits little too preachy for my taste (end of the cowboys, slaughter of the Buffalo, oppression of the Mormons) but that is my personal opinion.
Gaby Rubio Diaz
Extremely disappointed! I had to wear a mask to take the professional picture! How's gonna know is me with a facemask !!!
Jose Velazco
Amazing experience lots of things to do in here its never enough
Ali Bakir
Lots of antiques and miniatures to purchase and collect
Merry Riebau
A captivating, educational walk through history. It was a hot day but a bit too chilly inside.
Cole Petersburg
Walked past the museum to get to the arch, but on the way back I was engrossed. Lots of stories about 19th century politics, which is usually glossed over. The architecture exhibit was great.
Eric Hirsch
Nice museum to look through before going up the arch
Jeena Ravindran
It was fun to know the history of St Louis. What i liked is, everywhere there are few things for kids to enjoy & experiment as well. We spend full day at arch & museum.

John J. Looney Sr.
Make sure to buy tram tickets in advance so that you know what time your able to board. Wait was three hours if you bought tickets on the same day.
Jen Thrasher
one of my favorite places to go since I was a kid! Now able to pass the tradition on the little one! History, views, the museum. Don't forget to get your passport book (both for adults and the junior ranger) and your stamps!
Raul Neriel Rosario
Great museum showing some of the history of St. Louis and the Arch.
Mark Brumleve
Excellent museum! Much better than what I remember from years ago. Pay for the movie to really get a feel for how tricky it was to build the arch.
Michael Levy
Really impressive monument and excellent museum about westward expansion in the US and the history of the arch. The museum is free but if you want to go to the observation deck at the top, you'll need to buy a ticket.
Andrea Madsen
Great museum with lots of info
Barb Waalkes
We had a great time!
Susan Sister
There is a museum, short movie and a ride to the top of the Arch! Check out this amazing state park. Don't forget to take a riverboat ride on the Mississippi River!
Kim Fry
Great tour!
Janet Grado
Great update mice to be able to learn more about how it was built.
Samuel Price
It was interesting to walk through time and see the start if St. Louis in addition to how they built the arch. Some exhibits are interactive and there are some miniatures so I would say kids would have fun as well. The staff in the gift shop was very nice and the fudge is tasty. Fun seeing the photos of it being built.
Kellie Sue
Awesome experience
Very educational and such a cool day
BETTY BOOP
I really enjoyed this place and they have a lot to offer different sites there's a lot of information out there I was really nice and they had the best recipe for biscuits you'll get Oh definitely recommend this place.
Michelle Standard
Didn't get to go inside it was Easter. It was the closest I'd ever been.
Cortney Foster
Very informative museum with lots of things to do
Sue Ottens
The Museum was one of the best. I wish every junior high school child could go through it at their time. They would learn so much from looking at the displays instead of reading a textbook!
Darija Meier (DiningDar)
We did the ride up to the top and it was totally worth $15! You can walk through the museum before or after you take the ride. Sandy was our guide and she was awesome!!!
Dana Butler
Awesome history lesson and it is free to visit. You have to pay to ride to the top of the arch, but it was totally worth it.
Ann Mandernach
Haven't been in years! Highly suggest you visit if you haven't been since they redid the museum.
Phil Polderdyke
Excellent museum, sharing tons of history.
Sport Smith
Plan a couple hours to explore. Museum, gift shop and snack bar.
Captain Coco
Many people probably just pass through on the way to the trams that take you up to the Arch but the museum is actually quite cool. I recommend getting in around 45 minutes before your tram is ready.
Levi Denney
Amazing interactive museum that is great for all ages. Goes over the significance of St. Louis throughout America's history and the reason behind the Arch creation.
[originally visited on 8/1/2021]

Beautiful and informative but not as interactive as a child might like to stay interested

Angela Johnson
We did the junior ranger activities and learned so much! Such a great way to spend time before heading into the arch.
Robert Foster
Lots of confusion about where to enter. Able to enter at the legs of the arch before but now it's all changed. The new museum is really nice. Had a good time.
Shawn DiJohn
Definitely do the boat tour and ride to the top. Great views.
lil Jayhawk
If you park by the river, you're going to have quite a walk, if you have someone that has trouble walking.
I'm not sure the best place to park, but you no longer enter right near the foot of the Arch. I'm not sure when this changed, my husband went in 2018 and back then that's how he entered.
NOV 21 we parked at river, and had to go almost as far as the distance from the river to the Arch, PAST the Arch, and then when you get to the other side, you can see how there is an entrance from the other side that is lower than the rest of the ground near by... that you can't see from the river side.
My mom climbed the outdoor stairs between the river and the base of the Arch, but behind the shrubs were really long ramps... so if you do park at the river, and have someone who has trouble with stairs, there are ways to avoid the stairs.
It's changed a lot since in the last 30 years, but apparently it's changed a lot between 2018 and 2021... the museum is a very nice attraction and you can stay as long as you want (until they close for the day) AFTER your Arch tour if you didn't get enough time to look at things before your tour.
Kelly D.
