Reviews of Campbell House Museum
Beautiful Victorian Home. Tour Guide Ginger was an amazing historian of the home and have a wonderfully nice personality. The home is well kept and clean, very much worth $10 dollars per person. Our tour last around an hour long as well. I contributed $50 to keep the home in tip top shape.
Great little museum preserving a little chapter of St Louis history. An Intern gave the tour and did a good job
Lovely restored and preserved Victorian home! Honestly the most beautiful historic home I've toured. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and presented in details about the house! A must see in st Louis!!
Stellar house remaining from the mid-1800s - that is the only remnant of the gorgeous homes from the era from a time when this was where the "well-heeled" of St. Louis lived.
One gets a guided tour that takes about an hour; you pay at the end. The people who run the tours are volunteers and passionate about what they do. For much of the 2nd half of the 19th century - this was THE place to be in town if you had money and were "in society". Because of some quirks to this family, as all the other fancy houses fell into disrepair and were demolished as the wealthy of St. Louis moved west, this one ended up getting preserved. 90%+ of the furniture is original!
We saw nearly every room while learning about the family and the era.
Exquisitely preserved victorian mansion with many original furnishings. The docents are very knowledgeable about both the family and the house. A real piece of St Louis and American history
This is an unbelievable experience. The house, story, and furnishings are all restored and so unique. If visiting St. Louis, this should be a top attraction, along with the Arch, Zoo, Soulard, Lafayette Square, Forest Park, and Anheuser Busch Brewery. The tour is very reasonably priced and worth every penny.
This is a national scale gem. The history of the average American making good. The Campbell story is worth hearing. The home is preserved from the last relative, as if they just walked out and left it for us. Mrs Campbell spent more on opulent decor for one room than was spent on purchasing the house. This is a fabulous view of the past. Best mansion tour I've seen. Highly recommend.
An amazing mansion in downtown Saint Louis completely restored to period. So opulent with many original furnishings dont miss the carriage house ! This place is gorgeous! US Grant came to dinner there when he was president. Also I think very haunted...
Top flight historic home, rich in history and well maintained. The docent was well versed in the local history and the incredibly furniture and household wares. Exceptional. I rank it second best only after the Cupples House. Moderate admission charged.
Very interesting museum experience. The tour guide was very knowledgeable about every accept of the home and its contents. The social situation at the time of the building of the home and over the home’s early periods in Saint Louis was well explained. It was an excellent learning opportunity.
Please make time and get a tour here from Kathie( She works on Sundays) She really tells the history and you can feel the passion and care when she talks. ( Bonus:One of her family members were friends with the family)
Interesting bit of St. Louis history making this spot well worth the visit. Incredible family possessions on display from the 19th century. Excellent tour guide who was very knowledgeable on the Campbell Family history and items on display.
Loved this place. Very good piece of history. The guide was very informed. Would have loved to have seen them redo the nursery.
What a great tour. We had the whole place to ourselves. This house was fascinating
So many amazing antiques, The tour guides are amazing and excellent people. Definitely worth 10 bucks a person.
Wonderfully restored 1800s Victorian home. Great tour led by docent.
Great house from the late 1800s. Beautifully restored. Tour was great.
If you are in St. Louis, you have to visit here. The staff takes time to explain all of the history of this house, and you'll learn a lot.
If you live in the greater St Louis area and don't know the Campbell House Museum, you don't know what you're missing.
Not only is this museum an absolute gift to St Louis, this museum is an exceptional treasure among ALL museums.
To be able to visit a home restored to its former glory is one thing, but to have over 90% of its contents be original artifacts is truly amazing.
The volunteer staff that provide tours, research, gardening and other duties, are wonderful people who love St Louis history. It shows in every detail of this grand example of mid-Victorian design. Kudos to the Campbell House Foundation for saving this home from the march of progress, otherwise it would be a multistory office building converted to lofts, or worse yet, a parking lot. Thanks to CHF, everyone has a very accurate depiction of an home from the mid-to-late 19th century.
Would recommend for anyone interested in history, architecture, design, fashion, engineering, and/or St. Louis.
My most recent trip is my 4th one. I'm always glad to bring newbies to this fabulous museum.
This museum is exceptional. I have toured many historic houses and to find one in this condition and possessing so much of the original contents is truly impressive. Will come back again with history loving friends and family. Docent presentation was great along with the display and access to the dwelling.
Gorgeous Victorian mansion with many of the original furnishings, and carefully researched reproduction decor. Worth the cost of the guided tour!
Amazing! If you like historic homes this is the place! Tons of artifacts that are original to the property.
Amazing fun! Fascinating history. Was totally surprised by how interesting and lovely the house was. A great way to learn more about the history of St Louis, the Campbell family, and historical furniture/fabrics/cooking/life/etiquette, you name it. It's a must do on your list of St Louis tourist stops. Tour took about an hour but didn't feel long at all because it was so interesting. They have chairs for individuals unable to stand that long. Does not have elevators though (historical home after all) and you will have to climb a manageable amount of stairs (only a floor at a time though).
This was one of the most wonderful museums I've ever visited. What made it stand out is that the original Furnishings, as they were in the 1850s, had been restored. Even after the neighborhood declined, the Campbell house stayed in place because of the afflictions of one of the sons. There were photographs of the Interior so the restores knew exactly what to do and how the furniture was arranged. It was fascinating.
Campbell House is amazing! Went there last Saturday, and it was amazing learning about the Campbells as well as the elegant house. The lady who gave us a tour, Victoria, was so nice and informed. Loved it! If you’re thinking about it, go visit Campbell house! You won’t regret it.
One of the best historical homes we've been to! I promise you won't regret your visit here! So beautifully preserved and filled with beautiful, original furniture! Loved this place so much!
I love this place, especially at Christmas. It was beautifully decorated for the holiday. My 16 year old daughter even enjoyed the visit. I can't remember the name of the docent at the Christmas tree/kids entertainment floor (yes, the children had their own ENTIRE floor for when the kids had visitors! 😯) area but her stories we're absolutely mesmerising. Will for sure go back! Five stars for sure!!! ❤️
Very interesting and beautiful. The home is restored very well and the original furniture and paintings are fantastic. Great tour guide. Loved this! I wholeheartedly recommend visiting this little known gem of a place here in Saint Louis!
Beautiful gem of St Louis history!
The top floors were unfortunately closed for reno but the bottom one was enough to totally marvel us.
Victoria was an amazing host and tour guide!
I take my high school classes here every semester and all my students love going. The house is beautiful with all original family members furniture. The staff is friendly and informative. Parking lot beside and behind house. $8.00 check for times on their website which is very helpful. Gift shop and bathroom on the property.
One of the best Victorian era homes I have ever visited. The furniture, decor and woodwork is 90% original. Family tragedy lies behind how this home survived when all around it were decimated by progress. Tour guide was very knowledgeable and passed along family history that made the home come alive.
Gorgeous place, informative tour. You have just to visit it
Our docent Maureen was a wealth of information and transported us back in time with her amazing stories about the house and the people that lived there. This historical landmark is a true gem and must-see for anyone that is interested in the history of St Louis!
Outstanding experience; well-preserved furnishings and a great story and tour guide. Highly recommend!
Always an enjoyable visit. An historic treasure in St. Louis there are a number of steps and stairs in this three-story pre-Victorian home. Immaculately restored with a nice gift shop (especially the books).
Beautifully restored mansion in the middle of St. Louis. Has a rich history about a philanthropic family who did a lot of good things for the people of St. Louis and beyond. A true gem that everyone should visit at least once.
If you wanna go back in history this is a place to visit. You can see how people lived in 1851 and find out about their life in those days. Its a very unique place. The guided tour was very interesting and it kinda blows you away to see the inside of the house!
Wow such a treasure in the center of St. Louis. Our docent was outstanding. His depth of knowledge about the Campbell family and the furnishings of the house was amazing. Beautiful home.
This is THE BEST historic house museum I have ever visited! The furniture and art are original (which is very rare for house museums) and spectacular. The docents are incredibly knowledgeable and the history is worthwhile!
Museum is definitely very historic. It requires some knowledge in architecture or at least some interest in it to actually comprehend meanings behind the objects in this museum. Probably knowledge about the history overall would be helpful as well. The tickets are inexpensive.
The historical society tracked down almost every piece of furniture and personal items original to this house. A very enjoyable tour.
I had to come back and change my rating! I was touching the stars and it sent after the first one! WE Loved Our Visit at the Campbell House! We loved the amount of time that we were given to ask questions and explore the house! We plan on visiting again with more family and friends! Thank you ❣️
Felt like time traveling! So much history packed into this house, I honestly could visit hundreds of times and find something I didnt notice before. The tour guide was well informed and friendly.
A home frozen in time, with perhaps the most original furnishings of any historic home. The staff are wonderful, and insanely knowledgeable. If you are a fan of Downton Abbey or Upstairs Downstairs, you will love it!
Beautiful home, so much history! Friendly and knowledgable docents. Tour was too long though.
Very immaculately kept mansion with loads of information. Guided tours only, but they're 8$ and the guides are happy to go over and answer questions. Very interesting family.
Enjoyed the tour very much. Docent did a great job. Impressed with all the original items and attention to detail. Restoration is very well done.
Andy was the tour guide when we went. He is so cute!!! He knows so many things too. I will definitely go back.
Way bigger and full of more history than the website let's on. I went as a "Something to do" activity, but was pleasantly surprised to be entertained for nearly 2 hours on the tour.
What a great tour! The guides are knowledgeable and fun. The house has an interesting history, and the tour is memorable and well worth the money.

Robert Campbell should be better known to fans of 19th century American history. Visit this estate on your next visit to St. Louis. ✌🏽 …
Well worth the $8.00 tour fee. The staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about this true gem of St. Louis history.
Amazing, beautifully preserved Victorian in all her glory. Informative tour with a few unexpected twists in the life of the Campbell's.
I don't really care for historical stuff and was dragged along to take a tour but surprisingly I actually enjoyed learning about the house and the history of the neighborhood
Very rare chance to see such a perfectly preserved 1800s house and furniture collection. Very cool to hear about the family as well.
Great place to learn about american history, and a very good way to spend a few hours. Its free to visit and the staff are very friendly and accomodating.
A treasure trove of guilded age artifacts and architecture! A must see for anyone interested in St. Louis, Americana, and history.

The mourning society puts on events and they’re amazing
Stunning. The only historical homes I can compare it with have been owned by presidents.
Great break from City Museum to get a more serene look at the high life in old St Louis.

Fantastic treasure
Amazing history! And I believe a spirit popped in to say hello. A cabinet door opened while we were talking in the cook's room . . .
(Translation) You can see the Victorian style American living environment.
My mother liked it very much. It seems that there is time for the tour, but we went in with people waiting on the road.
It's a short tour, but $10 seems to be enough.
If you like interiors, buildings, or the American period, you should go there.
