Reviews of Museum of Glass
Lisa Gaspar (Lisa GG)
This was our 1st visit to this museum. It was absolutely stunning to see the work!! There was some serious detail on a lot of the pieces.. I had no idea there were so many clever artists with glass. Lol the staff were all very friendly and helpful. The gift shop was great!! And the bridge outside is stunning and remarkable!! There are no other words for that for the detailed beautiful works at this museum. We will definitely be returning.
Rafael Torres
Price is around $18 per person. They have a showroom/kernel where you can physically see glass being blown and made into an object. There are so many beautiful creations to see that others have made. Honestly a beautiful museum. Kids are able to make/design glass and it is displayed. Love the imagination of what others can create. Definitely recommend.

The bridge to the museum is decorated with colorful glass artwork. The museum host glassblowing events, one of which we got the chance to watch. It was cool to see how glass is made. That said, their glass exhibitions are very interesting too, and worth taking a look around. There awaits a presentation of so many different glass artwork variations and styles. The experience is very inspiring and educational.

Amazing collection!! The museum takes about 1.5 hours to experience. They make kids draw ideas and then they build one of it out of glass once every month! So cool! The glass making process is incredible, lot of fun to watch

Aside from being difficult to find, and having to deal with a very cold, snooty ticket sales person, we loved our time at the museum. The art was fantasticly creative and the glass blowing demo was informative and interesting. We especially loved the crew there and in the gift shop, such friendly folks. I can't wait to bring pals along, they'll luck out and not have to go on a scavenger hunt to find it. Pro tip, the museum faces the water. Parking is near the Museum of Art or on the street in front of the cool cone shaped top of the building. You can also walk across the bridge that goes over the highway, near the City Hall. Along that route, glass art is displayed (see photos). You'll take a ramp or stairs down and when you see the reflection pond, go right. There's not any directional signage. The restaurant attached to the museum has a much more limited menu than online, but it is delicious. Dogs are allowed on their patio.

I'm an Artist from San Diego, CA and through a series of fortunate events, ended up at The Museum of Glass in Tacoma, WA. Employees were very knowledgeable, experienced and were able to answer all of my questions. The work opened my mind to the possibilities of what can be made out of Glass. The 'workshop' area was AMAZING.
A well earned 5 stars 🌟
Eric Broockman
The variety of glass art made the trip more interesting than I had expected. I also enjoyed the gift shop - it has a range of items made of glass as well. They also have some hands on classes for kids that looked like the kiddos could make some beautiful pieces in a very simple manner. We will return - and have joined as members.

I came here towards the end of the day so I was hesitant to pay the price but it was definitely worth it!! They have an area where you can watch artists blow glass. It is amazing! And going through the rooms is really cool cause it's very hard to imagine how everything was made. Everything they have is absolutely stunning!
Lyndsay Toensing
Had a lovely time at the Museum of Glass on a Sunday after brunch. It wasn't very busy. Parking in the ramp was easy and not expensive. Watching the artists work in the hot shop was really cool, and the pieces in the gallery were awesome. Something for everyone, including the kids. Kids 12 and under (I think) can submit a drawing to be created by a resident glass blower! We will be back.
Susan Ding
Glass arts! Live glass art productions are demonstrated in the education studio, feel warm in the room. Exhibitions show works from different artists. The hallway along restroom displays glass made from children’s drawings and many more. Must see if you are visiting Seattle.
Bryan Besaw
Was an amazing experience they have a hallway where children send in pictures and the museum brings them to life. Gallery was amazingly diverse. Next stop was the theater where you can learn the history of glassblowing amongst many other things then you can travel to the hot house where you can watch masterpieces come to life.

The Museum of Glass is spectacular. It's starts from the Anthem and the museum as you walk over the freeway seeing the amazing glass art above you and the the freeway and the city view 360 degrees Tacoma 💪then you come to the glass vases that are beautifully blown away by these professional Artists. Then you enter the fountains, stairs, the boats, Yahtz, the calm water, park, restraunts it's stimulating. Go and see them blow away.
Ada Chu
incredible museum that showcases works of glass. It’s a bit smaller compared to other museums, but still a wonder to look at. As someone who works with glass, it’s fascinating to see just how large yet intricate these projects can get.
Jennette A.
Beautiful place with a wide variety of styles. You can also get a 360-degree view of their team making glass creations in the hot shop (it is warm!). I would definitely recommend!

Date night with hubby. We are both not into arts but talents from this place is mind boggling. Love the ambiance, the masterpieces, and the smiling friendly staff. I want to come back and bring my family next time!
KittyCwak
My EBT card saved me a ton of money on admission! The staff was friendly and polite. The gallery displays were amazing and so beautiful. The gift shop has really expensive art pieces for sale; I bought a Tshirt.
Dr.Chaitanya Buch
A very good collection of glass work done by a single artist so beautifully and also appreciated is the fact that the authorities not only valued but even displayed it so nicely with the lights and backgrounds.
Ambience, footfalls and Glass Artwork all are very good and recommended to visit if you are at the city and are an art lover, creator or curretor or just an enthu.
Recommend it fully
Alishia Rhoda
I'm a big fan of anything beautiful and glass. I enjoyed the uncrowded walk through the exhibits and left with an education of pieces I have never seen. What a beautiful collection of talent and history. My highlight was on a cold snowy day wandering into the glass blowing room. The warmth was amazing and being able to watch the artist in action was priceless.
If you love art or glass this is a must see.
Kristen Twine
Oh. Oh the art. Be still my heart. So beautiful it turned me into a poet. But for serious now, some of the most stunning pieces I've ever seen. A bit pricey, but art is life and breath.
leah hendee
A great glass museum with some wonderful featured artists. A working hot shop, a beautiful gift store, a great display of children’s art that was then fired into a piece of glass art. Watch the calendar on the website for incoming featured artists and hands on workshops
Taylor
A must for anyone who appreciates glass work. The museum is deceptively large, and the hot shop was brilliant. They explain the process as they go. The M.C. was entertaining and knowledgeable. I recommend a membership if you plan on visiting more than once a year, it will save you money in the long run!
Dezi Miller
So much fun!! 💜😊 The best part was having a fun day with my daughter. There was an area that they made glass sculptures out of kids drawings. That was 👍😃 Blessings!! …
Howie Grace
Amazing place. The glass blowing demonstrations dominate the visit. I would have liked to have seen more displays for the cost of entry, but what was there was quality work.
Christine Sanchez
It was so cool your going to love it there is a lot of cool things to see I will definitely recommend it to all my friends on how great the museum is it is worth the money to check out the day we went it was free because of there Anniversary
Simon Pan
How cool it was to see them actually glass blowing and creating art pieces live. I'm glad we were able to attend the free event and see the museum.
Vulcan Data
My friend from out of state moved here. It was nice to show off the glass art bridge. I hadn't seen the lower level before either.
Maggie Liu
This is my second time to be there. It is a nice museum to visit. My daughter who is 2 years and half and she is curious watch the glass making.
Ingrid Zea
Amazing!!!! The art pieces were incredible, each artist unique, and I loved the live demonstrations, learned a lot. And the restaurant in the premises was delicious
Jaslin Guiles
Loved this place. Cool to see at least once. The little restaurant was great too! We had a pizza with pears, so flavorful!
Morghan Townsend
Seeing a live demonstration of blowing glass was amazing!! That’s what made this museum 5 stars for me. The exhibits were fine, but I loved being able to watch the artisans craft
Toby
Had a great time here with the family, checked out the hot shop demo and it was very cool. Highly recommend checking out this place.
John Chowdhury
Very interesting and unique place to visit. You can watch live how they make vase out of Glass. Overall it's a very good experience. I recommend this Glass Museum !!
Nathan Kroll
So many beautiful glass sculptures and there is even a glass blowing demonstration.
richard kanatzar
Nice artists and glass sculptures. Very unique museum and live demonstration of glass building
Dustin N
This is an amazing museum where you can actually watch the art being made. They have a large “hot house” which is the cone of the museum where you can watch glass artists make new pieces! The gallery is really great and always changing. They have military and senior discounts. There is also a bridge that hosts many pieces by Dale Chihuly(a Seattle based world renowned glass artist). Chihuly’s work is also featured in the gallery! The museum has a nice store where you can buy many glass pieces but the prices are spendy.
Mark Capriotti
An hour visit will suit you just fine. Be sure to take a look at the Chihuly Bridge.
Sara O
Nice glass museum if you're in Tacoma that is reasonably sized but won't suck up hours and hours of time. There are some really nice works here, and even the hallways to the bathrooms had glass works of children's art. The live glass blowing was our favorite part, not only was it interesting to watch the process happen, it was informative as well.
Amiram Hayardeny
We didn’t plan on visiting but we were in Tacoma looking for things to do. What a gem! It was spectacular. We set, in awe, for thirty minutes watching three guys making a vase which I immediately wanted to buy (no such luck, it was commissioned and not for sale. What a great experience!
The items on display are mind boggling. They are beautiful and puzzling at the same time. I didn’t understand at all how they were made, what the process was. But every single piece was beautiful.
The gift shop was wonderful. We left with a few item. If you’re around Tacoma, it’s one great way to spend a couple of hours at least.
go2yourlibrary Reid
Great exhibits and the hot shop was fascinating!
Got in free with a pass from my public library!
Neon VPN
This museum is short but sweet. You have the serious abstract art glass in the gallery. Then you have the awesome cute and imaginative glass inspired by kids (my personal favorite) then you get to see how it's made! And if you need to get out, there's plenty of things to experience outside like trails and other sculptures. There just so much to do!
Mark Holm
Lots of well documented exhibits of a lot of glass artists. 1-2 at most per artist. My wife was looking to see more of Dave Chihuly's work, and there were a couple of really nice pieces along with a video about him, but if you are looking for more from him, look for the large displays spread around town. We spent time in the hot shop watching a local artist working on a piece, and that was fun and well narrated. Curators there answered questions while they worked.
Victor Brown
We spent an hour watching the hot-shop team making a limited set of martini glasses for the upcoming fundraiser auction. Awesome.
Most-all of the museum exhibits have changed since our last visit, absolutely amazing.
Anabel Pachano-Arismendi
Nice museum, specially the area where you can sit to watch people working with the ovens and the glass. It has an area dedicated to art work made by children as well. It has free entrance the 3rd Thursday of every month 5pm to 8pm
Jesse James White
Thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Museum of Glass. The collection is varied, exciting, and beautiful. The pieces designed by children and created by the team were fun to abstract. The hot shop was the best- I could have stayed there all day as it was a very comfortable space for my ADHD. Great morning activity, we got through everything in about an hour. 10/10 would recommend.
Laura Mitchell
The museum of glass is a fun place to visit for the whole family. Watch the glass blowing for a few minutes or a few hours. Wander the beautiful exhibits at your own speed. I love it every time I go.
Timothy Barth
Glass working demos, and interesting exhibits. I especially liked the exhibit of glass sculptures based on the imaginings of kids.
The gift shop sells sculptures done by the artists that work in the studio, but if you want one be prepared to pay. Price tags are 3 to 4 figures, pushing towards 5 in some cases. Conveniently, looking is free with admission though.
Alexandra Robles
The workshop is awesome and nicely set up for a walk through or to sit down and watch them work with the glass. There's so many pieces and collections to look at. My favorite was the chihuly they had displayed. Took about an hour to walk through if you dont stop and watch the videos on loop. Great place for a date, or to take the family on a day trip.
LiveLEE
Beautiful area, worth the trip. Make sure to walk across the bridge!
Adam Dickinson
Very cool museum, must see if you’re in the Tacoma area
Michael Palmer
Very beautiful displays, and getting to see work going on in the hot shop was amazing. Some of the glass pens that might appear as so-so when completed are amazing when you watch the whole process of them being made.
Gus Chan
You might have seen videos on glass making but nothing compares to seeing it in live action. It’s really a form of art and you can catch the show here. Wish this is a bigger museum with more displays.
Jonathan Martinez
Amazing museum to take your significant other for a date or your entire family. It's a smaller museum with things to see inside as well as outside. The bridge that connects the museum to downtown Tacoma is great to see on its own, featuring work from world renown artist Chihuly.
Jacob Hilliard
Very cool place my wife and I went not far from the Melting Pot in Tacoma. Her idea and very worth it if you like art and you even get to watch them make glass art too.
Raychel Schultz
This was our first time going here. I liked all the art that I saw but for the price of it all, honestly is not worth it. The gallery is very small. Although it was cool seeing how people make the glass. I liked only a couple pieces of art there. I say if you want to visit this place i would wait and look for days of when they have deals on admission so you don't feel weird having to pay that much for a gallery that you literally get through in 10-15 minutes.
Wolf jpeg
Amazing place with beautiful pieces of art. I especially loved seeing the little kids sculptures where they drew their creations and glass makers created it for them. Was really neat to see :) also had an awesome demonstration and a very nice host that answered all our questions! The prices in the gift shop made me cry tho.
Emma Mindel
Great place to spend a few hours. Though the museum exhibits aren't huge, there is plenty to see and read without feeling like you need to be there all day. Some really interesting glass art! Plus, the live glass blowing demonstrations are mesmerizing. They have live video and narration so you know what's going on and can see different angles. Parking right below the museum is super reasonable, I think it was $4. Definitely recommend when in Tacoma!
Whitley Fallon
Although the Museum itself is absolutely wonderful and admittedly worthy of 5 stars, I personally feel as though the whole thing was rather small. They had free art classes on the free Museum day that I went and you can view glass blowers live as they work in the studio, that was pretty interesting to watch. Some of the art was extraordinary and quite beautiful. The stairs up to the bridge are plentiful so expect to have to climb a while before you can get to see it. It's worth it though, definitely.
Ang Collins
Really awesome exhibit and I love that you can see people work on glass blowing as well. I would skip the "gift shop" unless you want to deal with attitude from the sales lady and want to spend over $30 for something the size of a river rock. Dont miss the hallway of kid winners. These kids just did a drawing and glass blowers brought them to life, its really fun to see and read about the art. The outside glass feature was down during my visit but still looks amazing. And take a walk across the Bridge of Glass!
Stephen Bruen
I miss all the night markets here hopefully we will have some again later in the year or early next year. I always enjoyed the cheap days for all the museum. Great place to walk around and the museum is amazing if people are working in the spire on their own glass art. Don't let the negative views steer you away great place to take the family while you're enjoying the Tacoma Downtown area.
Melodi
The art pieces here will blow your mind. General admission is 15 dollars, and though it only takes about 45 minutes to walk through the exhibits, it is well worth the price. The sheer number and quality of sculptures will leave you in awe. There's a live hot shop where you can watch professional glassblowers at work. There's a cute exhibit which features child made designs brought to life by skilled glass makers. At present (March 2018) the main exhibit features the work of Albert Paley, an impressive collection of mixed media scultpures . The museum also has a theatre, a decently priced cafe, and an art studio where interactive crafts take place. There's a lovely view of the harbor from the front entrance and an enticing gift shop. Overall, a visit to the museum of glass is a very fun time that will leave you inspired.
Shaun Johnson
This Museum was just amazing. I had a great time looking at all the interesting types of glass they had there. Will definitely recommend this place to my friends. If you happen to be in Tacoma and want to do something with your free time, hit up the Museum of Glass. I guarantee you will not regret it.
Lan Khuc
Wow great museum! Come if you like and appreciate blown glass. There are so many art pieces to look at. The technique that were used to fuse the color glasses together are wonderful. Watch the short video of how they are made in their theater, it will be worth your time.
Al Dao (YogiBearAl)
Something for folks of all ages and cultures, my kids loved the showcased artwork of other kids, and seeing how various artists view the world through their works of art. Ticket prices were reasonable. The museum was a little smaller than I had thought, but the richness and variety and education maximized the use of the space in the glass museum. Definitely worth a visit.
Darlene Stewart
I enjoyed myself here. But felt there wasnt much glass/art inside the actual museum. Only two galleries, then the blowing area. Was cool. Not sure if I would come again given the fact there wasnt much to see. But clean, staff was nice, bright and colorful.
Samantha Fife
AN ABSOLUTE MUST SEE!! Everything was just stunning, and curated in the most exquisite way! The Preston Singletary: Raven and the Box of Daylight exhibit I was able to see is a true masterpiece! One of the most stunning exhibits of art I have ever seen. The hot shop is also so cool, and the super talented crew fascinating to watch from the well appointed viewing areas. Very kids friendly hot shop host as well! You will love seeing the pieces of children's artwork that they bring to life. ♡ If I lived closet I would be there all all the time to see the visiting artists! All that and I have yet to even mention the Chihuly artwork!
Mark Klingler
I checked out a free pass from my local library and was able to get in for free. The glass blowing exhibit was awesome. There were tons of really cool works of art. Plus, the front desk staff were all really helpful.
Lana Johnson
Tacoma is an amazing city. The glass museum was absolutely breathtaking. Walking across the glass bridge was just as awesome. We watched the glass blowers put on a show of the process in making hand blown glass. Very educational.
Saifu Angto
Unique museum not that large but has amazing collection of glass arts. The displays are divided into 5-6 rooms and sometime they have special exhibits. It also has a live glass blowing workshop space that you can see the craftsman create glass arts.
Outside the museum, there are also the amazing Chihuly glass arts installation. Very colorful. Those displays outside are best seen in the evening as they are lighted up.
Easy parking in the museum parking garage. The museum store sells variety of glass items including very nice fancy christmas ornaments.
Riley Hersey
A little pricey, but fun. They had a live glass blowing exhibit going on, where someone on a microphone explained the glass blowing process. They also have a looping movie that plays in a theatre.
My favorite part, though, is the hallway that has children's drawings brought to life in the form of glass creations. They were so cute!
Jason Mihos
Great exhibits, and the hot-shop glass blowing/art assembly demonstration was absolutely fascinating -- not to be missed. Go MOG!
Tiffany Belcher
Beautiful venue! So much to enjoy and admire here. Incredible views of Tacoma, gorgeous glass and art...we had a great evening. Our group reserved this location for a private event. We had a catered dinner, a Program in the auditorium and were able to view the museum. We enjoyed the event very much.
AlisaBeth Nash
Beautiful works of art. Though small, what's in it really packs a punch. Definitely worth going to see. They change up the art every six months. It also hosts a gift shop full of very pricy works of glass and a small cafe.
Estonian Family
Was ok. Would be nicer if had more exhibits. For price seems they should offer more. We liked the working sessions with live glass making. Check out video.
George Llama
My wife chose this place to visit. I probably wouldn’t have chosen it but it turned out to be very fascinating. Not only did we see art pieces like the ones in these pictures, we watched as regular people mad their own glass sculptures. My 16 year old son was too embarrassed to work on a piece in front of other people or would be posting pictures of his sculpture.

Glass blowing 👌👍
We visited the museum on Third Thursday FREE admission.
Atleast spend 2 hours.😀
Even in Museum store, they have very beautiful glass art pieces.
Austin MacLeod
While there are only two galleries, the array of pieces and quality of work was outstanding. The Hot Shop is fun to visit if they're doing a piece, and the gift shop has a stunning array of pieces available for purchase, and with a range of prices making it an affordable choice for a small gift or for a large centerpiece. Absolutely worth a visit!
Keri Lohr
Amazing place to check out. Old movies run all day in their theater room. They have demonstrations by glass designers. That is a must see! I now have so much more appreciation for the glass artwork and dishes. Not easy work.
Denis Beaulieu
The museum seemed a little small, but the exhibitions were great. Lots of attention to detail and great ideas and concepts. I enjoyed the live glass making in the furnace room.
Kerry Wilkie
Amazing to watch the artisans create beautiful glass sculptures. Such a pleasant experience. Highly recommend.
michelle lara
Absolutely beautiful work of art. Each piece was so different, so unique. The hot room was truly a highlight to this visit, to watch them blow glass was just fascinating. Can't wait to visit again soon.
Chloe Martins
I honestly thought this museum was going to be a little larger. I liked the guest artist making glass in the lab. I did enjoy the native American exhibit and the test tube exhibit. I also enjoyed the kids glass art. My favorite was the ham zombie and popsicle man.
Matthew Mason
Very beautiful and fun museum. Glass blowing demonstrations were amazing.
Juan Castro
A total must see if you visit Seattle. Pictures really don't do justice to the actual live experience. Some great art and some not so great art such as the hangging test tubes (personal preferences, of course). The pictures I took are of the art I liked. You can watch them blow glass and it makes it an even better experience.
Anotherr pleasant surprise was the restaurant in the museum. Great Argentinian food.
Erin Beesley
A captivating museum. Watching the artists create glass sculpture was magical. Definitely worth a few hours of your time
Gretchen Lantz
Very cool, I mean hot! You can watch glass art being made in the hot shop and walk through the amazing gallery of glass (and other mediums) art.
Matthew Monroe
The hot shop is the focal point of this museum. Watch glassblowers work complex pieces while learning about the tools and techniques. Unfortunately, the galleries were a huge disappointment. They were small and mostly uninteresting. The current exhibit featured glass works, that while obviously challenging to make, did not intersest me at all (indigineous people humanoids and baskets). Be sure to look online before visiting. Also, the outside fountain was turned off for repair.
Cyndi Philbrook
Love this museum! Been here several times and I will be back!
Arlene Simonds
I really enjoyed the Hot Shop! You develop a good understanding and appreciation of the years of experience, hard work and talent that go into making a piece of art glass.
Chris Griffin
The exhibit hall is small and can be cruised through in minutes, if you don't read much. But the museum is not too pricey, and the hot shop was fascinating. You can spend as long as you like there, watching glass artists create their newest work.
Trinity Torres
Museum was really cool - we really enjoyed watching them do glass live! It’s not as big of a museum as we thought - but we loved the variety of the different types of glass. Truly something for everyone - traditional glass, more experimental, etc.
Jennifer Sommer
I really enjoyed this place it wasn't very large. We watched the glass demonstration and walked the exhibit and looked at the kid creations, which were so imaginative. It was a nice unplanned stop.
David Pannen
World-renowned glass museum with interactive hot shop and glass blowing demonstrations. Hosting an event here was a premium experience.
Patricia Snyder
The location is great❣ The Glass Museum is nestled amongst other Museums. The Glass Bridge connects them. There is the History Museum; Art Museum; Children's Museum and shopping/restaurants all within a short walk. The waterfront has a pleasant walkway and seating to enjoy the Marina.
Laddie Weidow
3 stars because we went on a free night. It would have been a huge disappointment if we had to pay. It's a very small gallery with mostly amateur, beginner, pieces. The store is all over priced, with no real option to bring back a cool souvenir that's affordable.
The kid's art turned into sculpture was by far the best part.
Nick Chambers
Overall I enjoyed my time here. It's a small museum, with some nice exhibits. If you aren't interested in the live glass blowing, your best value is to just visit the bridge, which is free, as that is where the most unique glass (the walkway roof and wall) is. Additionally there is a little sculpture garden outside the entrance that's worth a quick walk by. We visited the Lemay Car Museum, and would recommend that instead, with a quick trip to the bridge. If you want to see the glass blowing, you just have to decide if the admission price is worth it (17 per adult, plus possible parking fees).
FREE ADMISSION THE THIRD THURSDAY OF EACH MONTH FROM 5-8pm. WE SPENT ABOUT 1 HOUR IN THE MUSEUM.
Roger Anderson
Watching artists turn molten glass into beautiful works of art was the highlight of my visit. Lots of unbelievable art to see.
Lee Nelson
I came to the Tacoma area for just a short time and missed the hours of operation for the museum, but heard about the bridge featuring the Chihuly pieces. If inside the museum is as impressive as the bridge leading to it, I can imagine it's worth every penny of the admission fee. (And if all you catch is the bridge and sculptures around the building, it's a win as well!)
Donna Adler
Beautiful blown glass art exhibits.
Nibs
WOW! MOG is so impressive. We spent about 3 hours here looking at exhibits and watching a glass blowing demonstration. If you've never been to the MOG, it's worth a stop!
Lauren-Bacall Snowden
Very clean and lots of parking. Its walking distance to the children's Museum so that just doubled the fun. The tour at the Museum of glass was great too. It's not very big but still great.
Kaleb Sipes
For some reason I remembered this museum being bigger?!? But, maybe, that was because I was much younger when I first came to visit it. That said, the museum is rather small. You can tour it in an hour to two hours. The glass blowing demonstrations are worth watching. If you would like a more immersive Chihuly experience, see the gardens and glass installations in Seattle.
DeAnn Ivanushka
I have always wanted to take my kid here but I wanted to wait til she was good at reading and I could trust her in such a beautiful yet delicate museum. Last Thursday was that day. We had so much fun just wandering around the galleries. This trip there were a bunch of perfume bottles on display and I was in love. Seriously, if you want to go somewhere that you can't find anywhere else, go to the Museum of Glass. Also, you can't beat the price, we wandered around for three hours and didn't get to read everything, there is so much to learn here. I felt like my brain was full when we left.
Bonnie Gebhart
Museum of Glass was SO COOL. There are so many talented artist that are involved with this studio. The best part is being able to see the artists at work in the main studio. The outdoor installations are also very lovely!
Emily Reich
A fun experience. Lalique exhibit was fabulous. Interactive presentation.
Andrey Klimchuk
Nice place to hang out with friends and look at beautiful glass culture)
A lot of time you can see homeless people sleeping on the benches.
R Z
Very neat art displays, and I really enjoyed the hot work room. Watching the flow of work and the teamwork involved in the process was fascinating. Highly recommend a visit.
Gary Graefen
If it's walk the harbor, shoot a photo, look at beautiful hand blown glass. Or Wish at the boats. Always a fun way to spend time : ) and a favorite of mine.
Colette Adelman
We absolutely loved it. I love Dale Chihuly's work and the many other artists represented at the musuem. We only had 2 hours and it was not long enough. We will be back.
Gil George
The artwork was diverse and beautiful. The highlight of thisuseum is the "Hot Shop" where you can watch artists create. My 14 year old and I sat enthralled for two hours as we watched.
Francine Beckman
Great family outing with my 2 girls. I like that they offer classes to make your own art. They also make glass items & let you observe!
Candace David
I was disappointed with how small the exhibits were. As I recall, only 1 chihuly piece in the exhibits. The hot shop was quite interesting though and they patiently answered all the questions our group of children had.
Erik Olson
Top-notch presentation with something for all ages. Well worth the $17 adult admission price. Live glass blowing in the hot shop is not to be missed!
Stew
Matching a top notch place for making glass, internationally recognized, and then a museum that displays a variety of it. What a wonderful community place for glass artists.
Melissa
Nice exhibitions. Glass blowing demo was disappointing as the young lady hosting offered no explanations. Visit cut short as they were prepping for Gala, but not a problem to see everything.
Tinna Lacey
Featured sea life, jewelry, vases, and decorative glass Ware. Hot Shop where you to see glass artists at work. Didn't know that the furnaces would be so loud. Asked if they ever wear ear plugs and the answer is no, they need to hear what other person is saying.

Great place to see all the work from Chihuly. See all the complex and intricate glass art. They have glass work demonstration every hour. A must visit if you're coming to Seattle. This museum of right next to Space Needle. I parked on the street. It started snowing when I came here.
David Hanson
Paid parking, fun environment was very amazing to see all the different types of glass art. And they also have glass blowing showed for the kids and family
Kathy Jones
Besides the museum, there is a whole enclosed wall of gorgeous Chihuly glass creations outside, along the bridge, as well as in the ceiling. Amazing. Plus, the creations in glass of children's drawings, plus their descriptions of their drawings, were so unique (the blue shark is one of them in my photos).
K J
Great facility. We really liked watching them make the art live. The children’s drawings make into art by professionals was my favorite. It was fun seeing a childhood imaginations come to life. Good job whoever came up with that exhibit. Saw some beautiful professional pieces. Also if you are EBT they offer a very generous savings so everyone can enjoy the art at affordable rates! I loved that! Thank you!
Dala Khamnouane
Such a small beautiful place to be with your love ones for photo shoot, hanging out, and love the work of glass art display. Must see gallery.
agnes chan
Nice collection of glass art pieces. I like the idea of kids design program. The large scale glass furnace is impressive.
Limor Gavish
A small museum with beautiful art work, you can also watch a movie and a live demonstration of how glass is blown. Free 3rd Thursday of the month from 5 to 8
Taylor Carter
Such a cool museum. Make sure you get there in time for the glass blowing! On of the best experiences to witness in Tacoma.
Glez Me
We have a good time in the Museum, and I got a couple things from the gift shop.
Kym
Just beautiful. So many varied works of glass. There were ones that just amazed me! Be sure to walk the Bridge of Glass. Wish I had seen it at night.
Jason Rice
Absolutely stunning exhibits! The First Nation "Ravens" was some of the most amazing glass art I've ever seen!
M Harrington
This was an exciting museum with an area for glass blowing. Loved the outside display of Chihuly vases. The architectural element of the museum is outstanding.
Tyler Phillips
Interesting, but you probably won't spend more than an hour and a half here. Live glass blowing is fun to watch. I recommend 3rd Thursdays when admission is free.
Jake Walker
Our tickets here were very affordable. The live hot shop was really worth it. My second favorite exhibit was the Glass and Steel.
Jennifer Massey
The museum was placed really nicely next to a marina, so it was beautiful looking at the boats and water out front with the glass sculptures in the fountains. Then entering, there was a couple displays that were nice. Due to 1 Gallery being closed, they offered a discounted rate still a bit pricey for the hour or so worth of viewing. But the live glass-blowing demonstrations were going on, they had a man explaining what was happening while you were watching the people working which was nice. It's not an official show, the people working are minding their own business talking amongst themselves, so you really are like just a spectator looking in. The glass Bridge was very beautiful and on a nice day it was great to walk outside but that's free and not part of the museum. My favorite part, as a teacher, was seeing the kids design glass Gallery. In it they had drawings from children ages 6 through 12 that I saw and people from the glass Workshop designed the children's drawings into sculptures. It was really neat to see. It's a fun activity for older people or young couples, or I went by myself. It would probably be boring for children and not worth the money. So, really although lovely inside, you can get most of the view for free on the outside of the museum.
Ericka Stamos
I had such a fun experience coming to the Museum of Glass. I did not know what to expect at all. Its a pretty small museum with underground parking ($5 0-3 hours), however I think it might be on the honor system because there's no one at the entry/exit confirming if you paid or not. You have the choice to park on the street but its pretty challenging to find a spot. If you part in the garage there's an elevator or stairs up to the entrance.
Once you're in front of the entrance there's an awesome feature to take pictures at. The museum is pretty cozy. The staff are super gracious & helpful at the counter. We chose to take a mosaics class for $15 ($10 for members). The person teaching the class gave some great feedback on how to have the mosaic present to your look. She was even able to cut down glass to create our tailored looks. You can choose to return & pick up or have it shipped for $16.
There was also a glass blowing session going on to watch an artist. It was pretty packing with standing room only & was fairly warm, so we left out early. We checked out the kids art area which was pretty impressive. Then, the last stop was the Chuhilly bridge of glass. Its a pretty cool wall of his work & then neat photo ops under the rock candy looking art.
James Fuller
Excellent experience. We got to watch glass being blown and created. Lots of beautiful peices on display.
PayisInc
A very unique gallery with wonderful art and artists. There is a working glass blowing exhibit that runs during the day (it is hot in there!). There was a movie theater showing the artist's journey to make the pieces that were on display. The gift shop is spendy but admission is fairly priced. A bistro exists within the building but we did not eat. Great experience and don't forget to walk across the bridge of glass outside the museum as there are multiple pieces on display!
alberto riojas
Brian was a great guide in the glass blowing experience. The hot-shop is well named, with temps near the klins bring really sweltering. The shop has lots of options for pieces to make and purchase. The folks were both really nice and really helpful.
Shea Engle
This was a fun experience to see the beautiful art, learn how it was made, and see live demonstrations. While there I recommend checking out the children's designs at the end. Kids can send in a drawing and a description to have it made by the glass artists. It is super fun and creative!
Daniel Hernandez
Visited the museum for a private event. Got to check out all of the exhibits as well as the hot shop.
The glass is obviously amazing. To see what people can create is mind blowing but the best part is taking some time and watching them actually create it.
If you go make sure you try to swing by the hot shop if it is open.
bill g
It was pretty cool. The pop up market outside was cool. Still adjusting to these prices im from Houston lol
Jean Pedersen
Love this place! This time I was surprised by the Rene Lalique display. Have loved his work for years and this was a large collection. Always mesmerized by the making of glass pieces. Would give five more stars if available!
stan sorensen
My daughter took me to see the museum but unfortunately, it was closed. However, I was still able to enjoy the outside displays, fountains etc. I was amazed to see the bridge and beautiful glass art as we walked around. I'm from Memphis and unfortunately, you wouldn't be able to have the outdoor displays because they would soon be damaged or stolen.
Mark Verheul
Tacoma is so lucky to have this museum. Some of the best glass sculptures in the world. The "hot shop" is a must. You can see first hand how it's done. It's free during the "Art Walk" from 5 to 8 pm third Thursday of the month. Don't miss it.
Grant Voss
It's in a beautiful location. Although it's not the biggest gallery, if you watch them blow glass live first then visit the gallery. You really appreciate how awesome the pieces are. I enjoyed it.
Vilma Jordan
1st time here. Had a photo shoot great location. The lil deli was cute. Sandwich and salad kind of place..
Nice place for a stroll.
Josh Gilbert
This place was absolutely amazing! We even had the opportunity to watch them sculpture glass LIVE!
Aaron Littau
They have unbelievable displays and you can sit and watch them make new art pieces.
Love that Corndog
Jan Michaelis
We just went to the Gift Shop. They had lots of cool items for sale, from 50 cents to thousands of dollars. The air conditioning felt great on a hot day. The area outside is nice with great views of boats, the bridge, the Dome, and Mount Rainier.
Lenora Gardner
Great place to visit and watch glass blown by school age kids wanting to learn the tradition.
Wilson Lee
You'll see art pieces that you'll see nowhere else. The live demo studio is great. The price is right, too.
Aaron Bisnett
A really great afternoon visit! We stop in every year we're in town for the holidays so we can watch the actual art of glassblowing firsthand!
Black Diamond Electrical Contracting
Watching them blow the glass is great and pretty impressive.... the downside is the length of time that it takes if you are wanting to watch the process which obviously is not anything you can control the probably not something you want to bring young children to to watch the whole thing. They do have a little craft room for the kids to do a craft that was great but really other than that it takes about 5 minutes to walk through the gallery and another couple minutes to walk through the sales area. Just seems lacking oh, I'm not sure how else to express it.
Chuck Northrop
The architecture here is the eye-catcher and there's a beautiful cone "smokestack" reminiscent of sawdust burners of the past that is actually the roof of the hot shop. The hot shop on premises is great for the whole family--there's almost always something going on (check times). The galleries were just enough and had the requisite Chihuly glass (but not too much. If you want more Chihuly just stop in at the Chihuly Gardens and Glass beneath the needle). I really enjoyed the hallway with kid-inspired glass designs. Kids designed a drawing and glass artists faithfully recreated the drawings in glass.
Christopher Ossowski
Interesting architecture of the furnace room. They have classes / events for kids.
Parking is $5 but the machines are slow / hard to operate. Entry is a bit steep.
dystatic K.
Lovely gallery of glass exhibits as well as glad blowing/making demonstrations.
Sulfina Chiles
This place was Beautiful and Amazing and educational. The history of glass work is mind blowing Down to Marbles❤️.
Simon
Very cool stuff, but expensive to bring the entire family. A couple of 2 would be ideal. Cool and unique colored glasses sculptures, art, and architecture for display. If you're lucky, you'll get to see glass being made live; check their schedule.
John Elmore
Great tour. The Hot House (live glass making) was amazing. Seeing the team work and creativity was very interesting. Whole family enjoyed the experience.
Rick Anderson
What beautiful place to hangout for awhile.
Mike B
Really neat. Should have done the hot shop first though, I didn't quite appreciate the difficulty and skill involved on my initial walk through.
Rebecca Shelton
Great fun watching in the hot shop, beautiful exhibit!
Ivy Bolthouse
A gorgeous museum. Loved the demos of glass blowing. Also, I lost my phone and the staff were super prompt about helping and they found it.
Cameron Schrodt
A phenomenal experience, even for kids if the hot shop is open. I will definitely be visiting again because of how much my kids and I loved it.
Kelsey Ann
Great place to learn about the history of glass and see live demonstrations!
Stephen G
Fantastic museum - highlight of my trip to PNW. Highly recommend a stop if near Tacoma
Ni N.
Nice museum with glass products - so pretty to look at.
Eod
Nice place. Lots of glass arts and it's really pretty.
C South
Fantastic and amazing display of artistry and craftsmanship. Exhibits stunning Chihuly pieces in a well moderated environment. I was a big fan of the gardens especially.
Lydia F
Pieces on display were beautiful, I was expecting more. We were impressed with the hot room where they demonstrate the art of glass blowing
Heather Sevelin
Great exibits and glass blowing demonstrations. Pieces from Chihuly were my favorite. Reasonably priced as well!
Richard LaCroix
Terrific experience. Beautiful artwork. Check out the hot shop, always fascinating to see folks create stunning pieces of art.
Anceli Morais
Not a large space, you won't spend a lot of time here but it's great. Beautiful work.
Todd Canterbury
Interesting place! The art Gallery is good, but what gives this place a real "Makers COOL Factor", , is the "live glass blowing". This is way cool! The live glass is blown in a auditorium/workshop/stage that offers the visitor a Stadium Seat while the Artist in Residence creates with molten glass?
The venue offers a informative Info Graphics that plays on the 2 movie screens. Info about history of glass, how it's colored, how it's made, it's uses, and other cool stuff! There is a staff member who walks around the seating area asking if you have any questions. And these folks got Ph.D knowledge of the chemistry, applications, process and the Art of Glass! Gift Shop was moderately Priced, Way Better Than Chihuly in Seattle (Over F-ing Priced 😵)!
Mya Martin-Glenn
Lots of amazing glass work to view. The live demos of glass blowing/making is fascinating!
Jan Gronski
Fantastic experience. Many glass sculptures that you would never imagine possible. Live demo of glass making. Amazing! İ would highly recommend this demo to kids and their parents!
Tara Martin
To be honest, I was expecting more. There are only a couple gallery rooms and then the live show. There wasn't any stained glass at all, which would have been nice to see. I'm glad I didn't take my husband or 9yo, they would have been bored.
Michael Arbertha
I win at night just after sunset just to get the ambience of taking the pictures doing the darkness, the illumination was excellent.
Happy Puppy
SWEET place! I love watching the people in the hot shop. To me, watching glass blown and manipulated is better than watching a play or theatre. There are also displays in the museum. Over the years some have been awesome, others just ok. Nothing has ever been bad just not my taste. Worth a visit.
Patti Stuebs
Enjoyed watching the artists build a child's submitted design. The pieces on exhibit are lovely. Highly recommend this museum!
Shaunee King
So so beautiful I loved it so much as a first time visitor I definitely suggest to visit.
John G
We visited over the weekend and we tried the glass tile class. The instructor was great! He was very helpful, provided guidance on how to approach our design and cut all the shapes we needed.
Now it’s cooking excit to pick up in a few days!
Carolyn Edwards
Great experience started at the ticket window. He made sure we knew of the different categories for discounts, and all five of us, of different age groups, qualified! He alerted us to the fact that the glass blowers had just returned from lunch and that there was a guest artist doing a unique team project. The guide inside the work are did a fantastic job of explai ing what was happening and answering questions. The auditorium is set up well so that everyone can see, including inside the furnace where the artist is heating the glass. The Lalique special display was pretty, the explanations were interesting, and the displays were well laid out. The collection donated in 2020 was especially interesting, as the donor had a huge, eclectic collection, as he encouraged glass artists. This was my third visit over several years, and the drive from Seattle continues to be worthwhile.
Benjamin Williams
Tacoma residents with a library card get free entry, as do students with card (on weekends). Really great cultural experience in downtown, plus it's a short walk from the light rail stop. There's a live demonstration room which was probably the highlight of the visit! I'm not huge on art museums but I found the whole experience really cool. Great stop in downtown.
Eddie Jackson
The things you see that can be created out of glass is amazing. Incredible pieces from incredible artists.
Savannah Dresbach
I freaking love this museum. Every time i go the first place i head is to the studio to watch them create something rad. There's a hallway with glass creations based on drawings that kids send in and they're creative and hilarious and amazing. The exhibits are always cool to wander through and it's in a pretty good location, walking distance to a lot of things. Also on the Link route which i think is free and is part of the transit system. Always a great visit!
Vanessa Naranjo
Attended on a Sunday. Parking was free as it was street parking on the weekends. If you're a student be sure to bring your ID as we get a discount. We went kind of slow but still saw the museum within 20 minutes. The demonstration was cool however the room is very warm I would say hot even so it was maybe a 15-minute thing before you walked out. If you think it's too expensive honestly just seeing the art on the bridge is more than enough.
Margaret H. Smith
Interesting permanent glass hot shop showing how various artists work. Changing displays of glass artistry on display in the exhibit spaces. Check their website to find what is currently being shown. Hohum gift store. Hit or miss on staff knowledge, friendliness and presence.
Mike Kelly
The Museum of Glass is always an enjoyable visit. It’s always amazing what you see being done with glass. The depth and diversity of exhibited items is incredible. Add to the exhibits a large area for children to explore and create their own masterpiece. The Hot Shop is a fascinating area of the museum. It is here where patrons can view glass items being made. You can view from theater seating or observe from directly above. There is a restaurant within the building that will appeal to most people. The MOG is a fun place to lose yourself for a brief vacation from your daily routines. Stay glassy Tacoma.
Anna Marie Oakes-Joudy
Watching the glass blowing demonstration had my kids and me MESMERIZED. It was wonderful to see the work done live.
Jerry
So much beautiful glass and the demonstration part alone is worth the trip
Michael Barreda
A lovely museum! I recommend watching the glass blowing, what a cool experience!
Sherri Adler
Beautiful but small...the free outdoor walkway is the best part...was disappointed that some galleries were not open
Rhema Neas-Gass
Blonde Lady at the front desk was so incredibly helpful, and the experience and storytelling through glass art was lucious and delicious!
Tracy Cambron
Outstanding displays in the galleries and we love seeing what's happening in the hot shop. Excellent special events and a good representation of indigenous artists.
Diane Marestein
The Night Market was amazing. We enjoyed watching how they make all the beautiful glass at Museum of Glass. What a great place to have the Night Market.
Rita Claar
This was amazing! Make sure you allow two hours for this museum: One hour to tour the museum, and another hour to watch them blow glass live! It was fascinating!
gamer_narwhal52
Awesome love the central glass works piece's in the gift shop
Cruz Hernandez
The museum was a great place to have taken my family they also enjoyed the cafe inside
Joe Scholz
Very nice staff and facility. The glass works was very informative and interesting to watch. Not as many displays and pieces as I expected but still very cool. Don't miss the bridge if you go.
JoMarie Farrell
We especially loved the live glassblowing. The history exhibit was very good as well. Don't forget to go up to the bridge of glass which is free. But the museum is really affordable too, and they offer discounts for seniors and AAA.
Max Lieblich
Incredible museum. Fascinating to watch the hot shop in action.
Diana
We really enjoyed the wall of glass; the glass-blowing was awesome to watch and we enjoyed reading the History part of the museum and the history of glass blowing.
Taylor White
Amazing blown glass. So much fun to visit!!
Scott Carroll
Amazing! Knowledgeable and helpful staff. Great gift shop. Exhibit space is somewhat small but I could spend hours in the exhibition room
Joanna Chapman
A treat as always, and so fun to be there on a kids design day, where they make a blown glass sculpture of a child's drawing!!
Camilla Fondren
Beautiful Beautiful Glass Art !!! You can actually see artists creating their pieces. Love it!!
Helen Ell Tran
We just walked the outside but the glasses were beauty. Very nice place to just look at the glass arts.
Rachael Mcmahan
All the pieces in the museum are amazing! The chance to sit in on a workshop and watch glass be made is incredible!
Gwyn Alexander
We genuinely didn't expect the Museum of Glass to be so big! We had a wonderful time wandering the exhibits and watching the glassblowing demonstration. What beautifully curated exhibits; it was a feast for the eyes.
Isaac Van Mechelen
Their glass blowing is really neat to watch and like a lot of other museums they have free admission every third Thursday, 5-8PM.
Sarah E Dutton
So much fun! Informative and beautiful all in one place! Watch glass be blown and go in an artistic journey!
David Dittemore
Excellent experience in the hot shop with guest artist inspiring staff. Museum displaying some Golden Oldies.
Daniel Hanson
Honestly I was expecting a tad more from this museum. It felt a bit small for the price of admission. There were some cool pieces on display and a glass blowing demonstration happening. The artist were super talented! It is right on the water though so if you go on a nice day you can get some nice outside time in near the museum.
Harris Newman
What a wonderful place, a part of the community, artfully done!
Chan Bak
Beautiful hand blown figurines. I wish I could bring some back as souvenirs, but even a tiny penguin cost over a hundred bucks! T -T
Laura Ahlson
What a wonderful place . Go and watch glass being blown. Visit the gallery.
dlester08
This is definitely a "Must See" point if interest in Tacoma. We thoroughly enjoyed it. I look forward to my next visit.
Richard Posey
This is definitely a five-star experience. While the works on display are world-class, the best part of the experience for me was watching the making of art from molten glass in the facility's amphitheater. The process was narrated by a docent, although it was a little difficult to understand due to masking requirements. The description was invaluable to understanding the process. There are good supporting graphics, as well. It's simply amazing that work can be done by hand, more or less, with such insanely hot and, ultimately, fragile material.
Thomas McGraw
I visited for a awsome groovy funk thème wedding. Featuring acrobats and live funk band. Was great havent havent had that much fun in a long long time. Never knew you could rent the lobby out for such things. Plus lots of awsome glassart displays and beautiful views of Tacoma from the windows and the main dock. Great Place check it out.
Ron Robertson
Only had time to visit the outside glass bridge but that was well worth it can't wait to spend more time go inside. third Thursday of the month is free & open late 5 to 8 p.m..
Michael Carreras
I went here a couple years ago. Loved it. Really enjoyed my time here. Thanks.
mitchell mofle
Its really nice, even the building itself is picture worthy along with numerous pieces inside but there were less pieces inside than I expected. Watching them make glass pottery was still really cool and its really inexpensive to get into! Though the gift shop not so much!
Becky S
Our 1st visit, nice area at the waterfront. Parked in the garage under the museum for $5. Main attraction is watching live glass blowers at work in the large theater type space. A few rooms of art exhibitions, and a museum store. Ate at a restaurant next door (The Social), walked the dog by the waterfront. Overall a good stop off the freeway, tricky navigation and turns helps to have a 2nd person watching the map.
Insta All
This museum is offering what it advertises. There is glass that is formed into different shapes and colors. You can come and see them displayed in different rooms. A lot of people walk around looking at them and the rooms are kept a little darker than what you might be used to. There are some things that are pretty and other things that are questionable. Regardless, the main attraction here is the show. They put on a show with teachers and students, where they make a fire and put the glass in there. Then they take out the glass when it is a red color. They move the glass around while it is in a liquid form and show you how they make all the different shapes you see in the museum. I would say it is an educational experience, for lack of a better word. Your children may like it for a day's activity if you cannot find anything better to do around town. I mildly recommend it.
Mark Hayden
Just visited the gift shop, but can't wait to go back for the whole shebang!
William Lett
Definitely a must see. Didn't think much of it until i went, some very interesting pieces there.
Elaine Montoya
I went there for the first time and it was GREAT! The employees are courteous and friendly. The exhibits were fantastic and I was in awed by the intricate details of a lot of the items shown. We got to see some of the artists making some of their pieces and it was fantastic.
I'm going to try to come back to visit my cousins and they can bring me back to see the exhibits.
Patrick Yu
Amazing place! Very talented artists.
Omar Ivan Garcia
Awesome place if you like the glass art
David Sideras
Glass blowing demonstrations as part of the exhibits!
Nigel Sharp
Easy decision to just sign up as a member. Hope to spend many hours watching the glass-smiths.
Cindy Beauchamp
Rotating exhibits help keep it fresh. Never fails to impress. The Hot Shop is hot but so worth a visit.
Maia Bradford
Got to watch live glass blowing! There were glass sculptures larger than me! Pretty amazing.
Calvin Holland
Wow very enjoyable I recommend coming here.
Casey Primozic
We were lucky enough to see some live glass art creation going on when we went to visit which was fascinating! There's a whole area dedicated to that with seating for spectators, so if you're going I'd suggest trying to come when they're doing that.
The galleries were also super cool and filled with tons of unique art, both modern and old. I enjoy looking at it much more than traditional art styles.
Victoria Brown
We had our Company Party for an award we received. It was absolutely wonderful there.
Cedric Moore
Great glass museum with a fun live glass blowing exhibition shop. The children’s art pictures that glass blowers bring to life are charming and hilarious
Peyton Coats
This place is phenomenal! Love the Hot Shop where you can watch the glass blowers at work! Wonderful galleries! The Kids Design Art, Too exhibit is great! Love the outdoor exhibits and the Chihuly Bridge of Glass!Cannot wait to come back here!
Rich James
Unique to see glass blowing first hand and some amazing exhibits, although the exhibit section was smaller than I expected. Free admission on 3rd Thursday each month
Wakinda Rose
The pieces of art were magnificent. I had a lovely experience viewing the many different ways of working with glass. The shop has many amazing pieces for sale. I highly recommend visiting the museum.
Win Bent
As always, the Hot Shop was the main attraction, watching a team of glassmakers creating a unique piece. Fire, action, and fun - what more could you ask?! The exhibitions were up to the usual high standards, and beautifully presented. I'm happy I came!
Jessica Rainey
Cool museum! We went on a day that you could download tickets for free through the smithsonian website, which was awesome because I don’t think I’d be too happy paying $14 for the exhibit. They have a really neat area that has live glass blowing & we really liked that!
Some really amazing pieces there, we finished in under an hour. We don’t read *all* of the signs though either, so if you’re a sign reader it might take longer.
David Gresham
The docent was so interesting and informed us so helpfully. A very good experience!
Mikyoung Kwon
Awesome place!
Rex Jennings
Very cool glass works, be sure and see the glass sculptures inspired by kid's drawings!
Vicky Tran
If you want cool art and things to look at Chihuly does have a wider selection. If you wanna watch a live demo, they have it here. Tickets were $17 each $25 with AAA
Lesley Blair Paine
I was disappointed that active duty military get in free, but retirees pay $16. I liked watching the demonstrations and I like the kids' art.
Joshua lecha k
Great place to visit. Amazing work by the artist and a huge collection of art work. The staff at the museum are wonderful. I would definitely recommend this
Xylogor the Alien Overlord
Incredible experience. Always worth checking out. They swap out exhibitions every so often.
Renee' Barnett
It was neat to watch the whole process and what it takes to make glass art. Exhibit were amazing
Paul Borrott
Great exhibits and you can see glass being blown would highly reccomend
John M. Lopez
Amazing collection of glass art pieces and sculptures. The blown glass demonstration was especially eye-opening. wow!
Highly recommended
Ali C
Beautiful artwork. Kids loved watching the live glass blowing.
Joshua Barrett
I never actually went inside, I got there at 5:10, they closed at 5. But the outside was beautiful, the path to get there was filled with great pieces of glass art. Just that alone was worth the trip
Dennis Schimke
Worth the price of admission. Make your own glass tile for $29, a one hour workshop.
Donna Scholz
Spent 2 hours there. I liked the live glass blowing a lot.
Mary Loria
Fantastic collection of inspiring work. Art accessable to everyone thru bridge and outdoor instalations. A true Tacoma Icon.
Ricardo Gutierrez
Really nice walk. Cool art and views.
Allyie Butterfinger
Beautiful art work.... Glad I was able to visit
Vesper Aeon
I love museums in general, but the museum of glass is also a functional place where they actually have glass blowing so it's actually that much better. Check out the German display from the 1920s where they used glass to keep their refrigerators orderly. Just amazing stuff.
#ThreeHatsRanch
Very interesting being in the hot room and watching them creating such beautiful items. Nice museum and gift store. How do you make a glass banana? They do and they look real
Shelley Sundy
Best part of this place is the Hot Shop and being able to watch artists and glass makers create glass pieces right in front of you.
Dont forget to walk outside, to the rooftop, so you can see chihulys art pieces on the bridge. The light shining through his unique and colorful artwork is truly stunning.
Betsy Freeman
Some of the pieces were amazing! I enjoyed the live hot glass blowing.. there were many parts that I thought had nothing to do with glass. Great stop, although the chihuly museum in Seattle blew my mind!
Richard Harkins WØFH
The hot shop was making glass pitchers for the museum store. There was a very knowledgeable person narrating the process, and TV displays showed the action up close. Was disappointed that there were so few pieces on display. The large gallery focused on a single French artist. Lots of expensive stuff in the museum store.
Kelly Smith
Clean grounds, on the waterfront, scenic, affordable... Sign up for a glass making class. Great display of art.
Ivan Lau
Fantastic place to visit, parking is kind of a pain though if you don’t want to do paid parking. There is underground parking. Street parking is free on Sundays and so are student tickets to get in. When I went, it was really quiet and not too many people there. I suggest checking out the kid submission exhibit and the hot shop. Tons of things to read and stare at.
Dave Ross
Amazing art and it was very interesting watching the artists at work in the hot room.
Todd Gamble
Had the best experience, the food at the cafe is first class, the employees are pleasant and the art of phenomenal. Fantastic gift shop too. Clean restrooms, A great value.
P C
Phenomenal experience spending an hour and a half watching them create in the furnace.
Jennifer Palmer
I absolutely love this museum. Everyone should see the artists at work in the Hot Spot
Jason Goble
This is the best museum I have ever attended. Staff is amazing and shared with me the expression of artist of a trade that is not appreciated. I recommend watching the live glass demonstrations. It was amazing. Great job. I will be coming again.
Diane Carlow
I love glasswork, and the museum didn't disappoint, although it is not huge or as impressive as the Chihuly display at the Needle. The demonstration amphitheater was really fun to watch! The gift shop had a good variety of items at various prices.
Lu P. Cruz
Great place to visit. Museum works to involve children in art.
Christopher West
Museum was great. Kids had a good time.
Alex Soler
The museum is relatively large for being all about glass, and has a wide variety of exhibits! The hot room was especially cool; getting to watch artists and experts at work is a unique experience and one that I plan to go back to experience more.
leilani creed
This is a colorful beautiful place. You get to sit and watch them actually blow the glass
Alma Jantunen
Exiting place, beautiful Chihuly bridge and a great posibility to see artist working with glass. Colourful and intresting museum. Good museum for kids too.
Tyler Waggle
Great lighting for photos if you’re into that, a lil boring otherwise. I got in free but not sure I would’ve gone otherwise
MII LV
Awesome art. I believe there's something for everyone. I'm not really into glass or understand it. But it's nice to see something new and something other people enjoy and see what they can imagine and create with their hands.
Helen Smith
This is my second visit to MOG, although the first was many years ago. If you love art glass as much as I do, you will be thrilled to see the many displays. We particularly enjoyed the glass blowing demonstration in the hot room, and the beautiful Chihuly bridge. Both of those are must-sees! The gift shop also has many beautiful items, although they are a bit pricey.
urmom mom
It was a great experience and the glass art was amazing!

Took the kids for a little home school field trip. We had mr.sam and Ms. Beth as our tour guides. They were wonderful and had a great time.
Zac Snodgrass
The live glass blowing theatre was the highlight of this museum. We ended up mesmerized and watched the glass blowers work for over an hour. The staff are nice and were very eager to explain and answer questions.
M Yo
Great museum: the hot shop is so vast and learning-oriented, the galleries so sleek and museum-iconic. I like the emphases too on children's design ideas (created then in the hot shop), inclusion of the outer plazas (transition-zone artworks), and gift-shop diversity (extremely cheap glass trinkets along with very expensive master works).
Patricia Schwartz
Fantastic place to visit. My husband called it a jewel. I love watching glass blowing and they made it even better by having a narrator. I could stay and watch that all day. Great exhibits too. If I was local I would definitely want to schedule visits to see the guest artists blow glass.
Wicked Rosé
Great event family friendly, indoor and outdoor service
Dakita Gaspaire
Got married here. Amazing experience. The Fluent Steps Exhibit lights up at night.
Taylor C
Beautiful, with a chance to watch visiting artists and a permanent staff of artists at work
Roger Malaysia
Museum that does not show its collection? Is there one? Intriguing architecture.
Anna Wells
Decently fun experience for the kids, good place on educating them how glass is made. You can see it in real time. Other than that the exhibits were pretty interesting. Somehow feels like something is missing though, maybe my expectations were too high before visiting.
Stan Gonsalves
Very interesting building and art.
Staley Explores
I love art. This is a gem in the city of destiny. Check out the art museum and the state history museum too while you're downtown!
Megan Duim
Very interesting. If you like and appreciate art you will enjoy the gallery. We enjoyed watching the glass blowing demonstration and they offer classes to blow your own glass art. The best part for us was the kids glass art pieces (designed by kids and glass blown by professional).
Taju Ullrich
Learned a lot about glass, the Hot Shop was great!
Cray Artaba
Don't throw rocks! Also check out the art the kids make. It's actually really creative. Also, protip, when looking at the art pieces, look closely. You'll probably find some fine details and get more out of the piece!
Adnan Kagalwalla
The pieces here are exquisite. I am dinging the museum because despite the excellent art and fantabulous bridge of glass you can access from the roof, the museum charged a whopping $17.00 for not much to look at. Money is better spent at the Chihuly garden in Seattle.
Kaitlyn Tiara Domec
The museum exhibit was beautiful. It was laid out in a very easy-to-follow way and everything had well-written descriptions. We loved watching the artists working on a new piece while we were there, and we each picked up a couple cool items from the gift shop!
V. Husmann
I LOVE this museum. They always have great visiting exhibits and I really enjoy going in to see the glass blowing being done. Two thumbs way up!!
Lisa Oberly
So very pretty. Lots to see and the glass blowing is a must!!
Mike Wright
Several moving pieces. Technical and creative works that force you into introspection with the artist. Very unique pieces that reflect on artists individual styles and life experiences. Facility is well laid out and spacious. Very accessible for disabled persons as well.
Thomas Gegner
Beautiful and extensive exhibit indoors and out. A fun close up demonstration of glass blowing and there's food and drink if you want.
Katie Stadius
Incredible. Make sure you watch the live glass blowing.
Jason Brooks
I really enjoyed my tour here; seeing the glass blown was awesome. They display some really great work. The gift shop has some cool little trinkets you can purchase as a souvenir, or you can buy a nice large piece of you bring both your checkbooks...
Patric Rogers
The live furnace for "artists in residence" is very cool. It's actually fascinating how blown glass is created and the things they can do with it. The other exhibits are also fun, and it's nice that they change things up, so there are new things to experience.
The underground parking garage is a good one. The couple times we've used it, there has been lots of free space, making it easy to get around in.
Kimberly Hall
The Glass Museum is really unique in that they have a "hot shop" that you can sit and watch the artists blow glass. There is a docent that explains the equipment and process which makes for a really interesting experience. There are some nice pieces and the traveling exhibit changes so there is often something new to look at. It is smaller than I thought, however, still worth a visit. Bring your AAA card for a discount.
Sung H
Love it. Good place to take kids
Betty Anderson
if you go across the bridge to the glass museum look up in the ceiling and see all the beautiful glass work What.
Nick Swayne
Amazing ability to get up close to the artists and feel the heat!
SV
Outside is very appealing, great for photo shoots, a little dirty but will do.
Richard C
Oh boy, wish I could split this up into sections, but 3 stars might be the average. 5 stars for staff who greeted, worked with me to find the best and least expensive way to take a group of school kids through the museum. We visited the snack cafe also, very nice. A little slow but due to very individual service and care. Food was tasty despite (tongue-in-cheek) being all healthful ingredients and preparation.
I guess I expected more from the museum itself. Displays they had were interesting but not at all what I was expecting from a museum. I expected maybe some history of glass, glass through the ages, uses, variations, future outlook. There was a section of projects done by kids which might have been fine if coupled with the other. The main exhibit was of native American art. I am still not sure how "glass" figured in to it unless the pieces, clay-colored and really looking just like standard native American art, were actually made maybe of fired silicon so could be called "glass." I ended up being disappointed for knowing little more about glass than before I went in. The working glass blowing shop and exhibition is probably great, but happened to be on break while we were there. So, overall for me, a disappointing exhibition but with wonderful staff. We will return but maybe will be more selective about the current exhibit.
Cherina E.
Such a beautiful museum! Took my kiddos there for the night market and we had a blast! Many photo ops for us and the actual museum of glass portion was stunning. Wish we had endless amount of time to peruse! We will definitely be back.
stephanie schafer
I never get tired of going here. There is so much to look at outside of the museum as well. So even on a day that they are closed you can go to the glass Bridge and appreciate all the beautiful pieces. Even though the pieces never get switched out I find something new every time I visit and I've been visiting this place for years!
Jennifer Keeney
Absolutely must do when in Tacoma. There are also lovely local restaurants & ect., to do, close by in walking distance.
Jason Tillotson
The glass is absolutely beautiful. The admission price of $21 felt like being gouged since it only takes 15 minutes to see everything.
Elijah Obannon
Mann where do I start! Born and raised in Tacoma! It's a straight Tacoma, WA vibe for sure!
Love this place with a passion. Never gets old no matter what! Vibes are always great here! Nothing but good vibes! It's a beautiful site seeing place for sure!
Lord Dunans
We were here on Open Night Market and it was awesome. The food, the vendors and most of all the glass blowers in action (great place to see them from the audience seating). The gallery is always interesting to visit with its art.
Edgar Padilla
Amazing. Just straight up amazing. I'm not a glass person, or what have you, but I loved every minute if it. The live demonstrations are glorious. And so well done I was invested in every step of that molten glass journey
Amanda Collins
We had such a great time watching the glass blowing. This was a highlight of our trip. I especially loved the exhibit with the native lore. Friendly staff and receptive to feedback on including Ada accessible doors to the bathrooms.
B F
We enjoyed walking around viewing the glass art. The intricate detail on many of the items was worth a few minutes of inspection. I could see someone spending many hours here, or 1 hour depending on how interested they were in each item. They could walk through and "see it all" rather quick, but if they stop to look closely, there is a lot to be enjoyed here.
Robin Elmendorf
Such a great experience, watching the glass blowing was very interesting as were the gallery's. Beautiful location!
Randall Joy
Great value for the money and a wonderful museum. We'll thought out and inclusive, with weekend crafts for kids, a demonstration on glass blowing and a great gift shop.
Matt Klawiter
We loved it! So many amazing glass pieces, and the children's hallway was so cute. Definitely check out the glass blowing if you can. I easily lost two hours there.
ebatiz40
This is a tough one to write. The exhibits we saw were terrific. Well laid out and superb quality. The hot room is great you get to see the artists in action. But is very small won't take you more than 1-2 hours to exhaustively see it. Is less expensive than others of course.
Josh and Suzy Larsen
Excellent presentation of glass blowing in action and some impressive art displays.
Renee Kutter
So much talent .
Charity Johnson
This is one of my favorite places in this town. It's beautiful and one of the best parts. (The bridge) is free. Plenty to see inside as well. My husband could have watched the live demonstrations all day. Only downside was the reflecting pools were emptied, I really hope they aren't talking them out.
Crystal webb
They did a glass blowing demonstration while we were there! Beautiful and unusual glass work. If I had to pick my favorite part, it would be where the glass artists partner with little kids, turning the children's 2D drawings into 3D glass sculptures. So fun! The museum shop has all sorts of blown-glass and fused pieces.
Nobody Special
The best part of this place in the Hot Shop watching glass being made.
Deb Lindsey
This place is amazing!! Not only will you see many different artist and their beautiful work, but you can actually sit in the gallery (hot house ovens) and watch then build, blow and create gorgeous glass pieces! Truly facinating. This is not an experience to miss. Make a point to go whenever in Washington state.
Amy Torres
It's Pretty good but they need to add more stuff to the glass museum that's easy and I was a kid when I want in 1995 there was a lot of stuff to do but since then just OK. Why don't they teach kids how to make silver swords .
Jenny Kim
Must see if you love art!
Josephine Fernandez
This museum is just wonderful. Beside galleries, there is a large room where glass blowing is demonstrated. I was lucky enough to be there on a day with a special class. I was able to make a glass tile which will be fused in a kiln. I can't wait to see how it comes out. One of the most awesome parts is the children's glass. Children submit drawings and 2 are chosen to be made out of glass. The children not only get to watch their drawing come to life but the artists make 2 so the child can have one and the museum has one.
Jerry Dinh
Neat little place. The glass making shop is neat.
Knud Hermansen
Centered around this ampitheater where local (or resident) artists make some amazing glass designs. We've watched for a good half hour at a time with the kids. Check your local library in Northwest Washington to see if they have any passes. The art in the exhibits around it is also pretty amazing and we'll worth going through.
Tonya Holshouser
Was fascinating... just wish there were MORE. LOVED the gift shop!!
Kiersten Kummerow
The exhibits are usually spectacular but what I really love is watching the artists work
Steven Yackel
The museum of glass is one the special places to visit in the Tacoma area. It had been a number of years since I was able to visit, and it is just as great of a place as I remember. When I visited there were four exhibits in the exhibits hall, each with a totally unique example of glass art.
The undersea exhibit was amazing. The artists have used glass as the primary material to depict animals and live under the sea. There ais an amazing glass sculpture of a salmon that was mind blowing, and great examples of mollusks and corals that must be painstaking to make.
The hot house is a great opportunity to watch artists blowing glass. It is amazing how the teams work together to build each piece. We were fortunate to be there on a day when they were making a piece of art designed by a child. The hot house has a narrator that tells you what is happening throughout the process.
The gift shop is also worth stopping in. There are great examples of glass art that you can purchase along with other great gift ideas from Washington.
This is somewhere you need to visit if you are in Tacoma. You really will not see anything like this anywhere else.
Jared Miller
Fun little museum. The artwork was cool and saw some definite conversation pieces. Staff was really nice as well.
T G
Great choice for National Free Museum day.
Jamie Judkins
A bit pricey to get in. Loved the gallery, even though it was small. Especially loved the glass blowing studio where you can watch local high school students learn to create artwork. If you go to the website, you can sign up for their special weekends to learn how to blow glass.
Krizia Berg
I loved this place. It's a little small, but it makes up for that with beautiful rotating exhibits and a live glass blowing studio! The gift shop doesn't have many cheap souvenirs but it would be a great place to find a truly unique gift. If I lived in WA still I would have purchased a membership!
Nick Fouts
The art was nice and beautifully presented. I was just a little bit underwhelmed by the museum overall. I think I had high expectations because I recently visited the chihuly garden of glass. However, I think what people really come here any pay the admission for is the live demonstrations in the Hot Shop. That made the admission worth it. Very cool and interesting.
Andrew Hevey (Andy)
A little bit smaller than I expected, but the exhibits were well put together, and a lot of focus was given to the creative process. The hot shop is entertaining and very informative, the narrators and video screens really help you understand what's happening. Loved the hot shop pieces that brought kids' art into 3D life.
Nick Giersdorf
Great museum, loved the live demonstrations.
Vadim Yurchuk
It’s a cool place to come and check out. A lot of cool stuff and you can even come see how they make the glass. The only thing I would recommend is something about the theater as I didn’t see one person in there at all and it seems like it’s wasting space there. Maybe make some other few galleries or something. Or make the theater show something that would be appealing to the audience.
Aphysis Olson
Loved it here! The art is beautiful! It's an amazing way to spend your day off. I came here with my boyfriend and it was amazing. I absolutely suggest coming here. Also, go to the roof. The art on the bring is great, the view is amazing, and the fountain is awesome!
Sandra Wade
Fantastic exhibits. Relaxed art atmosphere. Young children have enjoyed art experiences, parents should be in control at all times. Lots of glass and mixed medium high end pieces on display. Parking is reasonable . I believe excellent opportunity for older children, youth. Foster art interest.
Cassandra Horn
This museum was honestly pretty disappointing. Entrance was very expensive and given that, we expected more variety both in size and creativity. There was a large gallery that while interesting to a degree, was filled with too many similar looking pieces. The other galleries were intriguing and the Hot Shop was cool, but the museum as a whole felt so small. For the price, it wasn't worth it.
Elliot Starling
Super fun place to visit! Definitely go when they are exhibiting the glassmaking, as otherwise the exhibits can be done in under an hour. Super kid friendly- there is a whole room where they can create their own glass sculpture drawings
AE McAuley
Great museum if you love watching artists work! While the galleries are small, they usually do a great job at featuring artists, both new and old.
The staff is also extremely knowledgeable and friendly, and I love their events.
I will say check and make sure you're not going on a day the galleries are down. They don't charge you as much for a ticket to enter, but I'd hate for people to be disappointed to show up with parts of the museum are being changed out.
Also for military families, they're part of the blue star program, so you can get in for free during certain times of the year!
Christine Savolainen
Beautiful location, layout, and amazing art.
sarah kim
Beautiful galleries that showcased the northwestern culture and brought native American folklore to life. We had our own guide who walked is through the galleries and then we were able to watch the glad sculptures being made in front of our eyes. My son loved it!
S M
Beautiful museum. Unique experience with the Hot Shop. Kids love seeing the art come to life right before their eyes. Art Alley with kid art (drawings) interpreted to glass art is a favorite. Don't forget to visit the Chihuly Glass Art Bridge.
4/5 vs. 5/5 because galleries are often closed. Already a smaller museum.
Tracy Young
The hot shop was amazing to watch. I wish there were more than one person working. After about 20 mins, they stopped for lunch. I was glad we went there first. There was some cool displays, but really felt like there should have been more to see. I enjoyed the kids drawings that were made in glass. On the bridge going over the train tracks was actually more art displayed than in the museum and the glass ceiling was so beautiful. Both of these last two things are free. I'm glad we went, but probably won't pay to go in again. The free things are special to see again though!
Chad Sawyer
For a smaller museum, they have so much to offer. The have an exhibit room that is constantly changing artists, styles of glass art... just about all things glass. They have a theater showing movies about glass and artists. The have a hot shop (glass artists blowing glass live) that has guest artists creating amazing pieces of glass live with a host explaining the process and taking questions. You sit in theater style seats above everything. I can spend hours watching this.
There are kid programs. There is an amazing program that picks one child's art each month and recreates their vision into glass. They are so amazing and probably life changing for that child. The artist makes two; one to display art the museum and one for the child to take home. So freaking amazing!!
Maya North
This place is pure magic from the moment you cross the bridge, under the glass ceiling filled with radiantly colored pieces to when you get into the museum. Whatever you do, spend real time in the section where they make the glass -- what magic! It's a relatively small museum but exquisitely planned, has a great cafe and the gift shop has everything wonderful -- including goodies for people on a budget. I cannot recommend this enough!
h k
Beautiful displays and amazing collections. It was first visit and just a quick one, but I plan to come back in the near future (when I can watch some of the artists at work)!
Dawn Morris
So my husband and I have made it a habit to keep “dating.” The Museum of Glass is one of our favorite places to go during the winter in Tacoma. It’s cozy to sit in the “Hot Shop” and watch the artisans create fantastic works of art. The patience and stamina required to create art out of glass is incredible.
If you want to try a hands on experience, they give you the opportunity to do just that at a “Blow Your Own,” or “Make Your Own” workshop. There’s one in January we plan on trying.
Also, I just discovered the Tacoma Night Market takes place at the Museum of Glass the last Saturday of the month from 5-10pm!
Dawn Johnson
This a wonderful museum of glass. You can watch glass blowing from the masters in the hotshop . The seating has great views as video so you can see glass blowing at its best. The gallery has whimsical artists work as well as visit the gift shop and eat in the restaurant. A must see for glass enthusiasts.
Trish Klinzmann
I have never experienced anything like this amazing Museum of Glass in my life. The colors and the artistic shapes, I wanted it all. We spent so much time in the different halls admiring all of it's breathtaking art we ran out of time to actually watch the glass blowers in action. I will get back there next time I am in the area. But until then I want to share with you some pucs of my favorite pieces. See those amazing turtles, they will be in my house.
Julie Eckman
Awesome works of glass, though only one gallery was open at the time. But there was a visiting glass artist and they were making a piece with the audience watching, way cool, so that made up for the gallery issue. And we participated in a fusion glass class to create our own pieces of art.
Laura-Beth McDonald
We greatly enjoyed our time spent here. I'm an art historian and my partner is really not an art guy at all, but he thoroughly enjoyed the museum. The building itself is beautiful and designed by Arthur Erickson -- being Canadians we HAD to go see some Canadian designed stuff. The interior was nice, the galleries were diverse, well-curated, had good signage so that we could understand them. I didn't feel overwhelmed by the amount of items displayed.
We both loved watching the hot shop glass blowing going on. I understand that the artists here sort of rotate, so my advice to future museum goers would be to check who's using that space. The announcer did a fabulous job of answering our questions and the artist came and spoke with me personally, which I really appreciated.
The little shop was totally overpriced, but can't really change that.
The cafe was so good. We had breakfast sandwiches for about $7 each and they were really tasty with lots of meat, eggs, and cheese. The coffee had a funky taste, but overall for $15 can't complain. The staff were very welcoming and nice. I'm surprised this place has such poor reviews, we've been to many museums and cultural sites and this is definitely going to the top of our list. Highly recommend!!
Renate
The place was quiet because of the snow that had fallen a few days before, but the exhibits were beautiful and we enjoyed the brief time we got to watch glass being blown. Staff were very friendly.
Ingrid Martinez
I wish I knew more about the hot room before I went! I had about 30 minutes to check everything out before I needed to head to a conference, and I could have stayed at the museum for at least a couple of hours. The Preston Singletary exhibit deserved more time as well, to read and truly appreciate the art and story. Watching him in action was super cool, and I wish I could have spent more time there. Great prices for what this museum offers!
Kandice Ocheltree
Pretty cool museum and really makes you see glass as a medium. Plus the glass making showings are very cool. You can walk over the bridge to see tons of influential pieces. They also have an exhibit inspired by kids art that is a must see
Sara k
What a great place. The outdoor sculptures, the bridge of glass, and the live glass blowing all make this a must-visit. Here I've seen a forest made of glass, and a starry curtain of glass that leads into a native American tale about how the sun, moon and stars came about. I've seen a hundred suspended vials filled with remnants in a display about bee hives. Glass sculptures based off of the drawings of school kids, a thousand tiny glass vases and figurines with painstaking detail; don't miss out on this place!
Chris Edmonson
A very special place with a live hot shop and visiting artists!
Flint Redrock
It's 100% cool that there is a museum of glass art, but I would definitely do whatever you can to get in for less than full price. I think if I paid $18 per adult to come inside I would be disappointed because there are only a few small galleries. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but my eyes beheld a ton of tacky and amateurish art, with some really incredible pieces mixed in. Some of the Chihuly art is technically impressive but in my opinion it lacks design or concept. There was much more interesting work done by other artists. One of the features that you absolutely have see is the gallery on the way to the bathroom. The glass blowers have reinterpreted children's drawings from the museum studio into glass sculptures, all of which are funny and well realized. The live glassblowing demonstration is quite cool. Again, if you can get in for a reduced price, definitely go. Or pay full price and understand that you're getting 1-2 hours of entertainment.
Greg Mowat
Beautiful glass creations, well designed galleries, excellent visual engagement with glass art via the Hot Shop exhibition!
Lyric Milligan
Absolutely stunning. A complete jewel of Tacoma, and a great place to see artwork that isn't just paintings.
Zane Jackson
Honestly my favorite thing is glass museums. Highly recommended and well worth the price for the tours. They go in depth and show you how the glass is made which is both intriguing and cool. The bridge is awesome and free and the train station is also free.
scott mccauley
Beautiful art, polite, knowledgeable staff!
Kurto Orndorff
The Art starts with the.building itself.. Then the water features.. As your inside there's art everywhere of course. The staff is very knowledgeable and could answer all of my questions. We came on a day when live Art demonstrations were happening. (Check events to catch live demonstrations on your day of visit) We enjoyed the Arts and crafts that were offered with a little educational course given with the craft. (The crafts are free- check for when available) The Art Bridge is gorgeous! The gift shop has beautiful pieces for sale that have been made on site. As well as beautiful Art books on local Artists and visiting Artists to the Glass museum. There are so many photo opportunities at this museum. Plan ahead and it will make your experience a A+. I have found tickets available on Groupon a few times. So if your penny pinching look there first for tickets. If you enjoy the history and future of automobiles you can make a full day out of your visit to Tacoma by visiting there as well. Enjoy!
CJ Livingston
Modern building, in a museum area of the city, reached easily by the free Tacoma light rail transit system. Has a few free exhibits outside (the bridge has two sets of display, taking advantage of natural light). To me, the museum's main exhibit is it's Hot Shop, where active glass artists are creating actual artworks while observers are seated in risers in a half-circle facing the ovens and kilns (if that is the right word) used to heat the glass. The audience may have a narrator with a mike who is describing what the artists and art-assistants are doing, and explaining a little about how they do it. There are samples of the final work being created to the side, giving you and idea of where the artist is going with the glob of glass they are working on. (Glass artists often work in a series, varying colors, techniques, details, etc. to create several variations on their final product.). The museum has one very small historic display in the large lobby, and one current static display available - one artist, or one school of technique. It has a gift shop, and has classes (multi-age) that can be completed in about 45 minutes, with the end-product given to you before you leave!
Deborah Hagopian
Great afternoon outing, loved the restaurant on site!
Gail Bailey
Its beautiful, busy, but calm. Great place for taking pictures. Good eating establishments near by.
M. Merryman
Really amazing art, you won't believe what can be done with glass. Super and unique items in a well stocked gift shop too, both useful and decorative. BEST was the gallery where I could sit awhile and watch the art being created, along with explanations of the process and equipment. Worthwhile stop. See the glass art bridge while you're there.
Kathy K
The blown glass portion is the only part I found to be interesting. There was not as much "art" to see for the price that is charged. Although you can park under the building, that adds an expense. If you want to see glass, head up to the bridge/overpass over 705its free!
Errhka
Really great place - we went here every year with out school and it never gets old. They have a huge furnace where you can watch them make glass, and then a museum of artwork to accompany it. Really gives you a greater appreciation of the skill and patience it takes to make objects and art with glass.
David Medlock
This is a fascinating collection of fine glass making. Many pieces seem impossible to create at least to the untrained eye. Well worth an afternoon.
Darryl Collins
Great find, Perfect for a first date getaway.
Nicole Marie
Beautiful place, full of so much beautiful glass art.
Michael Morgan
Great place for a quick day trip. Smaller inside than expected. There are two major rooms for galleries. The main entrance has a couple displays as well. The bridge of glass is a cool feature outdoors and you can see it from far away. The fact that they have glass blowing shows is great and they're not extra cost to watch. The glass store/shop is very expensive, but there are smaller knick knacks for cheap souvenirs
Tom Nakayama
Interesting focus on glass with glass making (a little warm in that room). Watching artists making glassworks, as well as looking at glass art, offers insight into this art. Also interesting are the children's drawings that they turned into glass pieces. Museum is connected to the glass bridge which is worth taking a walk across.
Kathleen Forte
I have a membership and go to the museum fairly often. I always enjoy myself but the current show, Preston Singletary's Raven and the Box of Daylight is exceptional. Give yourself extra time and read the artists' statements. The museum staff is uniformly well informed and always add to my experience. This visit I enjoyed sharing perspectives with the staff member in the gift shop.
Esther Nielsen
This is a fun place - and with the library pass getting us in, it was a great experience. My son still talks about what he saw over a month ago. I enjoyed watching them make the items in the factory. That was my favorite part. Overall, the museum is actually smaller than I thought it was. The 2nd favorite part is seeing the drawings by little kids become 3D glass figurines. There is a long hallway with these creations and it is fun to see imagination come to life.
Heather Bede
The Museum of Glass is fun to visit. Watching artists blow glass in the hot shop is a great, however quite warm and noisy. The galleries are beautiful and the gift shop is quite nice. There is also a cafe and the venue can be rented out for weddings. Do t forget to check out the bridge where glass is displayed and the water feature outside.
slεερү clεσ
It was amazing! Being in the hot shop (i think that's what it's called) was awesome! I got to see the people at work and saw how much they have to do to complete a piece, which just fascinated me! If you're just traveling, pass by and look at all the beautiful art pieces!
Adam
They had the "art deco" exhibit when we visited. Was not a fan of the style but enjoyed the museum. Just the colors of the glass are beautiful along with watching the creation in the hot shop. The price was free due to being active duty military and it being between memorial day and labor day. Not sure I would pay the $15 for general admission, seems a little pricy.
Lisa Reager
Really fun to see projects in the hot shop! I expected to stay a few hours but we stayed all day. Had a great time at this museum!
Carol and Mac Todd
A museum filled with all manner of beautiful glass art pieces and opportunities to see skilled crafts men and women shape true works of art from molten glass. I could have spent all day watching the glass blowing but then I would have missed some of the most fabulous glass artworks I have ever seen.
