Reviews of Frye Art Museum
Love this American art museum! They often have contemporary art which makes it exciting for me. Usually parts of their permanent collection are on display. Always worth a donation if you can afford it. Free entry if you can’t! It’s completely accessible and the restrooms are gender neutral! Gréât place. Go see art.
Saw the flying women exhibit. I really enjoyed. Didn't completely understand some of the explanations but they were really pretty for some. And some of them were less about taking stuff seriously and just enjoying them. Also it's completely free but I left a $5 donation
A very nice, well-curated, free art museum in a nice part of town. A little on the small side as museums go, but there's quality material inside. Well worth a visit!
Credit to Frye they only had one exhibit open when I visited (from what I gathered, it was from the Frye's permanent collection of the eponymous family). Don't get me wrong, I don't want to scoff at a free museum... I just didn't find too much to justify a discrete visit. Bundle it with other sites in the area.
Great range of exhibition and art works. Pieces were thought provoking and spent a wonderful afternoon here. Free of charge but definitely recommend leaving a donation.
Very impressed by the “Experimenting with Bearden” educator workshop and overall exhibit of the work of Romare Bearden. Fantastic free little (but mighty!) art museum and great gift shop. Absolutely will be coming back for future exhibits and workshops.
Excellent place to visit, very unique art. Great gift shop. Admission is free but Donate, keep this place open.
Nice off the beaten track free museum. Rotating exhibitions. I'm thrilled its free to enter (PS make a donation if you're able) worth stopping by show your support. These museum are a rare gem.
What a lovely art museum! We saw the Black Refraction exhibit, and it was incredible. They chat he exhibits, so you can return every few months for something new. Perfect place to spend a couple of hours!
Great museum, that is accessible. There's a gift shop and cafe inside. Food is not allowed while walking around the art gallery.
Always some gem to discover here. By donation. Limited hours, so plan your trip. I can spend hours lost and looking. January 2023 small eclectic collection, mostly closed.
Free art for the public!
It is quite small with three exhibitions. But this makes it much more accessible than those giant art museums where you feel too overwhelmed. Get you to be more immersed in the world of art. Feel with heart, not the eye :)
Free admission, but donation is encouraged! Intimate museum with lots of wonderful pieces to view. The outdoor courtyard was spacious and lovely!
A small free art museum . The major drawback is that it limits its presentation to shows and doesn’t exhibit a permanent collection.
Incredible art, and the history with the Frye family is very interesting. Free too!
Outstanding and creative curation of permanent collection around themes that provide insight into 19th and early 20th century society. Top notch visiting collections. Beautiful space.
Loved that it's a free art museum, nice collection, friendly staff
Can't beat the price, free! Interesting artwork with rotating displays. Small museum so relatively quick to get through. Note that parking in the area is extremely limited and hard to get a spot on the street which is pay except for sunday's and holidays. Price for that is right, too, I paid about $2 for an hour.
the exibit i went to explored works of are in sets of threes. Each set of three pieces was arranged in a visually interesting way. I really enjoyed the ways they were displayed. Would recommend any art lover stop by this museum!
Its ok. Kind of Small. And I wish they had an area where you didn't feel you were being watched all the time. I know they need to make sure nobody touches anything but is that REALLY a problem. We've been trained like monkeys since kindergarten to KNOW that the #1 rule at museums is "DON'T TOUCH".
I like museums where its more relaxed so i DON'T feel like an animal in the zoo. DON'T worry. We will NOT TOUCH anything.
Here's what u do: u also have cameras 📹 watching our every move. So u have 1 person monitoring the screens. If he/she sees a character who is acting like a rebel, you send an employee into that area . Otherwise u give people free reign.
Art is supposed to liberate us, right ? And the experience at the art museum should be liberating, NOT a task to complete & then feel glad that you're getting out of there.
AND by the way there's nothing WORSE than somebody saying "Thanks for coming. Have a nice day" in an apathetic tone as you leave . I DON'T believe u truly care if i have a 'nice day' . u DON'T even know me & probably WOULDN'T even be willing to help me if u saw me on the street.
So flush your meaningless cliches down the toilet 🚽 💩. DON'T dump them on us 🚫 👎.
A little gem. If art museums with varied pieces are your cup of tea this is not to be missed. Free admission with varying exhibits. Friendly staff. Great gift shop and cafe under rennovation. We spent an hour and I am still thinking about a few of the exhibited works.
Nice free museum! Cute store too!
I've enjoyed seeing the exhibits here. They make seeing art fun and inviting. Donations encouraged. Gift shop has great items.
The museum is free, but donations are welcome. Easily and fully handicap accessible. Not a lot of walking, so good trip for seniors or others who are not up to walking a lot.
For a smaller scale museum, they manage to have a wide array of art on display, both in the main gallery and the rotating exhibits areas.
The staff is friendly, free parking is available across the street and pay to park spots are all around. The cafe has a nice selection and in warm weather, a cute little outdoor area to eat.
The gift shop offers many things worth taking a look at. They also offer varied programs for aspiring artists and people who simply appreciate art. You can even bring your own supplies and paint in the main gallery. It's a peaceful place.
I will definitely re-visit.
Pretty cool art museum. It's open 11am-5pm Tuesday to Sunday, closed on Monday. I think Thursday it's open till 7pm. There's no entry fee to visit the museum. It displays in saloon style, some amazing painting from Fryes' collection. There are some amazing artists exhibiting their art. You can check their monthly schedule to get details about the exhibition and other programs. Most programs like art making class, musical club concert are free too. There's a courtyard and cafe if one likes to grab a quick bite.
Walking past, the building caught my eye, with a cute cafe and a beautiful water feature. I was happy to know that the museum was free and that alone makes it worth it. Upon entering, I was told that I couldn't have my bag hanging from my shoulder and would have to carry it (this was slightly inconvenient, but not altogether annoying). I'm glad I walked through the Impressionist section first, because it is just "Meh". Next, I went to the Ko Kirk Yamahira exhibit, which was amazing! Then last, I visited the Frye Salon. Wow! The walls are covered with framed art of all sizes. It is really impressive. The museum took an hour (at most) to walk around and see everything, including the gift shop. A short, fun visit and definitely worth it if you have some extra time.
Lovely, thought provoking little art museum. The workers have a union! Mindfulness meditation 1st Wednesday of the month. Really nice!
It's an odd museum. The exhibits seemed like random stream of associations or "Are you a human" type of ruling out what does not fit in a grouping of artifacts. Odd in a tough to define way.
A beautiful little art museum in First Hill. The staff here is very friendly and admission is donation based. Amazing collection of fine art in this tiny space.
Cute museum, lovely exhibits, free admission but suggested donation, really nice to spend for a few hours!
Excellent "off the beaten path" Seattle destination. It's free, which is awesome, and the neighborhood where it's located (First Hill) is a nice place to walk around as well. Most of the traditional art (which is more my thing) is concentrated into one room, but it's a very impressive room. You could spend a couple hours in there and still not fully appreciate all of it.
I love museums but I can’t give this one a 5/5! It is a very small museum. Three main rooms for exhibitions and three or four smaller rooms for their ongoing exhibits. The reason for a higher rating is that it is free. As a part of their current exhibit, there is a free show for an hour on select days (weekends included) which was pretty funny and colorful (the rain doesn’t know friends from foes).
I couldn’t appreciate the exhibitions except one on immigration. It was not super artistic but strong on theme. At places, it wasn’t clear how is the painting or photo or sculpture related to the theme. It might be just me who didn’t get it.
The salon was really pretty. It has 150 paintings from floor to ceiling. Again nothing famous but showed the timing of the photo and who and what was shown on the painting.
This is a wonderful museum with a spectacular permanent collection and interesting rotating exhibits. There is no longer free parking, but the museum itself will always be free of charge. Donate to them if you can!
Free art museum. Lovely staff. Love the gift shop. Obsessed with the family collection that is a room filled floor to ceiling with a gallery wall of art. The rotating exhibits aren't ever my favorite. I've only had one exhibit that I really liked and all the others I could live without but it is a free spot so I can never complain about the fun experience.
The Frye is a special experience. Though large, it has a feeling of intimacy. The rotating collection and the traveling ones are moving. Lastly, the signage is exceptionally well written and tells a story that really complements the pieces.
(If you are able, please leave a donation when you visit.)
It's wonderful to have a free art museum that everyone can enjoy. Plus, most of the exhibits rotate so it’s like a whole new museum every few months
The Frye's collection is wonderful, the setting inspirational, and the incredibly friendly staff and docents create an inviting environment that will make you want to stay and visit the art until you satisfied and amazed. The Frye and its staff reminded me of the 'art' in heart!
Thank you for making our visit so spectacular!
Great curation of PNW regional artists. When it's on display, be sure to check out the Frye's founding collection.
what a beautiful space for art. i appreciated the section displaying art work curated by past art directors at the Frye. The guided tour was also very informative and engaging. we had a great time.
Great little somewhat unknown museum we found on a search looking for something to do. Was a nice surprise and we enjoyed our time there very much. Recommend checking it out. FOLLOW ME for more thoughtful recommendations as I travel the world 🌎 …
Beautiful space & very nice people. Thanks to Charles & Emma Frye, we can enjoy more than 200 beautiful realistic paintings. You must not miss this place.
Their salon style classical art gallery is intriguing and rich, and their individual artist expos are wonderfully thought provoking. I love that their space feels maze-like, almost like a choose your own adventure.
Organic, refreshing <3
I love this museum ❤️.
Best part is Free🆓 admission.
Art lovers will definitely enjoy💯.
Great free place to visit in Seattle. Modern exhibitions + art from the Frye's collection. Gender neutral restrooms and activism-minded art, super enjoyable.
Rotating exhibitions, pretty interesting. Events happening periodically, so check out their website. Free to enter, donations encouraged but not forced at all. Friendly staff.
Really beautiful interior, though provoking exhibits with varied mediums, generally a great space to take a moment to think and appreciate the things around you
Free museum with a room full of gorgeous oil paintings. If you plan on walking here...beware, it’s quite the long uphill climb.
The museum was a great place to walk through on a rainy day. Free admission and nice circulating galleries. My favorite room had paintings that took up all 4 walls.
Just a few rooms with some kinky art. I've visited quite a few museums around us, but for me it was worth it only because of the girl-in-the-tee i attached below.
I am have been many times and always like the exhibitions.
The museum's curators bring in wonderful, thought-provoking exhibits. There is a tremendous emphasis on diversity, with artists from minority communities often featured prominently. Holding a distinguished permanent collection of its own, which is rotated through the galleries on a regular basis, The Frye shares masterpieces in a way that makes the art feel intimately accessible. The docents and other staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Visitors will appreciate the building's architectural features including a reflecting pool outside along Terry Avenue. The Frey hosts lectures and has a delightful gift shop that is not to be missed, and guests can also enjoy culinary offerings provided by talented chefs at Café Frieda. (At the time of this posting, some services are temporarily scheduled on a reduced basis. It is recommended that one phone ahead or look at the website.) The Frye is a community gem. There is no charge to enter the museum.
Beautiful! I just discovered this little gem. Admission is free and the exhibits are absolutely exquisite.
Absolutely beautiful place with friendly staff. You have to check your backpacks in but the staff was very polite. The exhibit I saw was completely free. I highly recommend this place to tourists and locals alike.
Awesome art museum. Much to see and it's free. There are no crowds which is a plus. The exhibits change often so there is always something new to see. Definitely a cool place to check out if in the Seattle area.
PARIS Love! I adore this museum (FREE) & the wall to wall gilded paintings from the 1900s. Below are a few of my favorites from Only I room at this stunning museum!!
I can't speak highly enough about this museum. Although it's tiny, their collection is impressive! And admittance is FREE. They also have amazing revolving exhibits. I highly recommend this place to anyone who is visiting Seattle that enjoys fine art.
I guess half of the museum is for students at the college to show their art. That’s amazing but I did not enjoy it lol. I loved the other half though it moved me very much.
A great free art museum. The collections can be hit and miss at times.
Its free always and have a good amount of paintings displayed
Very small museum, but every time they have different exhibits, and special events, from music to Mindfulness Meditation, book signing and Art lectures, for whole month. Free parking just across the street.
Frye studio was nice and the rest of collections were interesting but hard for me to grasp.
Art dated back to 1700th. Framed in really ornate gold frames. Free admission, but donations are welcome.
Handicap accessible. Parking on the street.
Beautiful museum. If you have a few hours to spare, I would highly recommend taking a visit. They have the most unique gift shop as well!
Photos of their permanent room that was extravagant with tons of history
Excellent...parking is tuff. Staff is professional and Friendly. Parking is tuff....
Favorite place to enjoy art in the city. Easy to navigate and enjoy if you don't have a full day to spend at museums. The Frye collection & temporary exhibitions never disappoint!
We REALLY enjoyed the Eugenie Jones, Jazz in the City, event this afternoon. What a plus with great exhibits to wander around before and after.
I found this museum by accident. I saw my first Odd Nerdrum paintings here. Saw Robert Crumb on another trip. I'm so happy, and astonished, by the quality and diversity of the work shown here. The gallery really focuses on the human condition and the artists who best express our humanist and perennial nature. A must visit.
It’s small but interesting and engaging. They have a good collection of classical paintings. I enjoy this museum a lot more than SAM. Oh and it’s free!
Such a great little get away in downtown Seattle. The cafe was super tasty, too. I was pleasantly surprised to find one of my favorite beers available!
The exhibitions are way smaller than I thought but as a free activity this museum is perfect!
If you find yourself in downtown Seattle do yourself the courtesy and walk up to the Frye. It is pretty close, it only took 25 min at a leisurely pace from Pike Place! What a lovely and varied collection of art to be enjoyed that the tourist crowds don't seem to get to in as big of numbers as you would think.
Free entry, pay to park isn't terrible, close to major buslines, and close to a variety of restaurants for good eats. The exhibitions change every few weeks so it's a good place to keep in rotation.
Really well curated. It's free! Check it out, and if you have the means, donate.
An amazing museum! And I was shocked 'cause it's free!🤯 There are many galleries for different tastes. …
Wide range of works. Clever curation of grouping pieces to spark the imagination.
First time checking it out on Christmas Eve. Super laid back museum. Free entry. Approx 1 hour (if you like to read the details). Staff were nice and they have a small shop selling local vendors. Street parking only so give yourself some time.
What a great place for art. I liked the section of the Frye that showed art that was chosen by past art directors. The tour guide was also very informative and interesting. We had a blast.
Very awesome museum that's free and always has a ever changing variety of art.
Relevant contemporary art exibitions, nice founder's salon w/ 19-20th cent. paintings...
I really loved the exhibit on animals but I wished there were more of the collectors original works on display in addition to the current exhibits. Staff was very helpful and friendly and it was very clean and well organized! I will definitely be back.
Very sweet spot if your tired eyes need some refreshment. Impressive permanent collection, and critically challenging temporary exhibits. Free! But cough up at least a 10 spot on the way out, if you can.
Beautifully designed free art museum, always has interesting exhibits.
I just wanted to let anyone who’s planning on going around the time of this review that half of the museum isn’t even open as they’re working on 2 of the 4 exhibits. A trip here will last you no longer than 20-30 minutes unless you go to the “gift shop”. Just wanted to share that with people so you don’t make the mistake of going like myself.
Free admission and worth visiting with my friend during a trip to Seattle.
100% free but it's good to donate to keep it open. You can spend 1 to 2 hours easily. They also change out exhibits often.
Nice and friendly staff, feels like a community museum with it's intimacy. Liked and was pleasantly surprised about Jane Wong exhibit regarding food and it's mentioning of China's food issue when she was born.
Very small museum... 2nd tier artists. Worth a trip for art lovers.
Frye has been my neighborhood museum for 30 plus years. I want buy support local or US artistsI visit the store. The cafe is great!
Nice collection. One of the best free art museums I've ever been to. Very evocative pieces, and a wonderful piece of architecture.
Nice, unassuming museum with great exhibits. Perfect size for an hour, with what looks like a nice chill cafe if you want to stay and chat.
Great atmosphere, love the American style Paintings, just wonderful to look, at and wonder what they were thinking? The European Section of Art & Paintings, is beautifully designed, you feel like your really there. Me and my Girlfriend will definitely be coming back. Enjoy everyone. Take your time there. ⛩🤙🌴👽👈😎⛩👣🤙🌴 …
The entrance is free but they accept small donations. It is pretty small but very beautiful. And the staff is super friendly. One of my favorite for sure!!
Free art gallery with a nice cafe. Free parking too. Good place to spend an afternoon.
The permanent installations are beautiful, but I think the modern exhibitions they bring in are why I love going to the Frye.
I always like going to the Frye. The exhibits are always changing and the museum isn't so big that it becomes an all day thing. And it gets a bonus star for being free.
Update 5 February 2023: The Salon exhibit has been closed but is coming back next year. The first Sunday of each month, 11-2, masks are required.
A Seattle gem. Always free, consistently delightful, well-curated. Note that parking is nearly impossible; even pay lots nearby are usually full. When the cafe is open, the food is quite good and worth a splurge, though as overpriced as any museum dining.
The frye art museum has great displays in fun setups. Spent about an hour and a half casually looking at all the great pieces and highly recommend it especially if you're looking just for a fun afternoon to kill.
I went alowly to try and understand artist works. Amazing and thought provoking..
Frye museum has a stunning resident collection and great visiting collections. The native American female artist is fantastic.
The Salon was definitely the highlight of this museum. The other exhibits that were showing during my visit weren't my favorite, but I can't complain when entrance is free! Also, be sure to check out the gift shop. They have a great quirky selection
Free to the public, closed on Mondays, small enough for a quick escape from the daily drudgery. They have a permanent collection in back, and cool rotating exhibits closer to the front. I've been exposed to interesting new artists that put me in a place of inspired, quiet introspection. I highly recommend. Their outdoor water features are also pleasant, as is their little museum cafe (Cafe Frida) and their gift shop.
Great place to see contemporary art as well as some fine pieces from the collection. Take one of the guided tours offered to learn more.
Update May 2022: They are currently showing a great exhibition of Christina Quarles. Paintings and drawings that challenge the concepts of race, body and intimacy.
Nice place wish they would of had something different showing
The installations currently on exhibit are fantastic! It's called Group Therapy. I was very surprised to see such interactive and high quality, multi-media art on display in a FREE museum. I would take visitors here, too, since it only takes an hour or two to see everything. Sometimes it's nice to take in an entire museum in under 3 hours.
Great exhibits, detailed, and fun for everyone.
Small yet intense museum with everything from classical to avant garde. Free every day, so even if you aren't moved, doesn't cost you anything more than gas money. Parking is a little dicey with all the construction around but not too bad. Probably about 1-2 hours of content, depending on the exhibitions.
A nice little Museum the current exhibit towards expressionism that eclectic some paintings by the great Masters some others by little known artist he probably won't care for it unless you like landscapes. In general this is a nice place to take a break it's always free you have a good Cafe happy hour on Thursdays also an outdoor patio.
It's donation based and they always have new exhibits. It's pretty small tough so don't expect to spend a ton of time there. The Salon exhibit is the best in my opinion, as usually they just show contemporary art.
Free admission and free parking (for now). Interesting permanent collection but the best part of this museum is the temporary exhibitions. I've seen countless incredible exhibits throughout the years. They also have a sweet little cafe and a fantastic gift shop with cool items at a variety of price points. One of my favorite museums in Seattle.
I loved this Museum. They did an excellent job of creating a Covid safe environment and the exhibit by Anastacia-Renee was a truly enriching experience. Evocative, intimate and beautiful. This local artist shines and the Frye was the perfect place to showcase her talent. The other exhibit showcasing some of the Frye's treasures was wonderfully curated and I and my teenaged girls loved it.
Always a fantastic trip. Brought my mom-in-law and they loved it!
One of my favorite museums in Seattle. Great collection of beautiful paintings.
Very interesting, surprising, upbeat, rich, modern exhibitions in the past. Always enjoying every visit to the Fry.
The Gallery Café serves wine, coffee, food.
It also have Happy hours.
The entry to the Museum is free.
For a free museum, the Frye Museum is a great place to spend a few hours.
I found out about the Frye Museum through a Seattle recommendations thread online, and mostly only went because it was free. Overall, I was impressed by the exhibits I saw there, as well as the number of exhibits on display.
My favorite exhibit seemed to be perennial. Essentially, the back room of the museum is filled with different paintings that were owned by the Frye family. I really liked the compilation of the paintings and how they were all placed so closely together to create an immersive experience. I had never seen a museum put so much material so close together, and it was an interesting pivot from the minimalist exhibits that are popular with most museums.
Visually stunning and emotionally moving pieces. Wish we could have explored more/longer, but our son was enjoying his echo a bit too much and we didn't want to disturb the patrons.
I'm shocked this is a free museum. A definite must see!
A hidden gem! The Frye is FREE. The exhibits are GREAT and constantly changing. The entire museum is quite small - even just 1/2 hour would be enough, but you could do more. I keep going back and enjoy every visit
A nice art collection with rotating exhibits and tasty food at the cafe. I used to work nearby. The cafe was among one of my coworkers' and my favorite spots to meet for lunch. The fact that the museum is free is just one of the many wonderful community resources that Seattle has to offer.
SO MANY LANDSCAPE PAINTINGS (which are my favorite). I was so delighted to come here. The room with paintings lining every wall is magnificent and I've never seen anything like it. Although that's the main attraction, there is a multitude of beautiful landscape paintings, even including one by Monet.
It's a welcoming place, and the people who work there are friendly and informative. There are often one or two special exhibits, and also the main collection. The main collection, while attractive, is made up of very minor 19th century European artists, for the large part. Nonetheless, it's interesting to see, in no small part because of the way in which the paintings are displayed, which reflects the fashion of that century. The walls are covered almost from floor to ceiling in what seems to be a jumble of canvases. Admission is always free.
Very beautiful exhibit. Worth going to if you have time, especially since it’s free. The staff was very friendly too. There can be loud children sometimes. The staff should definitely do something about that. It’s very disrespectful for parents to bring I behaved toddlers to an art gallery. If that’s not a problem then the galley is very enjoyable.
Ended up here by (a serendipitous) accident. We were trying to attend an event that was being hosted at the Frye Museum but the organizers (not affiliated with Frye) failed to notify about a cancellation.
It was to our benefit. This is a wonderful free art museum in the middle of the city. There is a permanent art collection and then rotating exhibits, both of which are fantastic. Highly recommend this museum!
Interesting mix of Contemporary art with a room of classics.
The Frye's collection of classics is quite eclectic and displayed in a single room with a few risque for their time works of arts as well.
As a free exhibition you would think wouldn't be worth it but any trip to Seattle you shouldn't miss this gallery.
The best free museum I have ever been to.
Free art museum? Yes please. Great little art museum with a wide variety of different collections. Including their main collection, which is both overwhelming and impressive. Last time I went they had an amazing collection of photographs by Hana Hamplová called “Meditations on Paper” which was one of my favorite exhibits at any museum I’ve ever been to. They also had a film exhibit, which was confusing and a little off putting, so sometimes a mixed bag.
It is a treasure to have a museum with free admission so art is more accessible to all people. The Fryes' collection of fine art is exquisite: the depth of colors and contrast of light and dark draw the viewer in as if the paintings are windows into real life. The museum is also home to wonderful exhibits of contemporary artists.
Love the Frye Art Museum. I've been visiting since I was a small child. I really enjoy the different new exhibits they have come in. However I truly savor the collection gifted by Charles and Emma Frye. Exquisitely beautiful. I feel like I'm visiting old friends.
Number one museum for a visit to Seattle. First of all, it's free, and second (probably more important) the collection on display is both varied and beautiful.
There is usually a provoking exhibit on display, and like the permenant collection, will also impart something before you experience the dreaded "museum fatigue."
Please donate to the museum when you leave if you enjoyed yourself!
The space is beautiful and inviting. The exhibits were unique and engaging. Unfortunately, our tour guide was completely in over her head with the material currently on display. The featured work was Tschabalala Self, Cherdonna Sinatra Ditch, and one other that I can't recall. The museum would do well to give this volunteer some training on material that deserves thoughtful engagement not this particular person's superficial interpretation. We will be back and walk through the exhibits on our own next time.
The Frye is a treasure. It's a totally free museum with free events -- there's not even someone to take your 'suggested donation'. This makes it perfect for swinging through even when you're not planning an explicit museum day. By its convenience, it enriches my life.
The exhibit from the Studio Museum of Harlem is wonderful! Some 50 years of works by Black artists, in all mediums. Don't miss it at this free museum that is a Seattle gem.
Great museum with rotating exhibits. Free to the public. Parking can be tough in that neighborhood. The gift shop has a host of unique treasures to enjoy or buy including jewelry, books, and various trinkets.
This is an excellent museum. Their permanent/rotating collection in the salon room is impressive. I enjoyed their Valentines guided tour in 2018 and their rotating external shows are always interesting. The cafe has yummy food
Exquisite little collection housed in a gorgeous building!
A free museum. I continually enjoy the Frye family personal collection, done of which is always on display. At the same time they bring through some amazing, intriguing exhibits that make mildly frequent visits worthwhile. There is also a free Wednesday, mid-day group meditation class.
Extraordinary artwork and serene gallery!!
Excellent museum with a wonderful cafe and gift shop .I could spend hours here .And it is always free admission. I highly recommend this place .The building itself is gorgeous and the artist are always progressive . They also have an amazing permanent collection of classic paintings.
Very nice little museum. 11:30 am and 1pm guaded tours.
Always interesting, often exciting exhibitions. Current Tavares is engaging and thought provoking, Ko Kirk Yamahira beautiful and moving.
This museum is Free, amazing, and surprisingly big. 5 exhibitions at one time. The building is pretty too. When there they had contemporary figuative work, political work, LGBT work, poerty work and a permanent collection of fine oils. Something for everyone. Workers are nice too
So far it's been an amazing art gallery the likes of which are seemingly lacking or outright missing here in the beautiful beauty and green landscape of my favorite city's heart and pretty much center. It's actually better than the Seattle Art Museum downtown because the building itself is an actual work of ART and beautiful architectures that nicely blend into the skyline very well. It's less expensive than others and also friendly enough for kids who love ART and older folks like myself really. The space used, and exactly how the Frye uses their mind blowing space there is not only amazing but also unbelievably ingenious and also fascinating for everyone blessed enough to check it out,... -Not to mention, probably actually unknown, simply because of its beautiful awesomeness! -you've absolutely got to stop by and see for yourself to believe it's wide open galleries, high ceilings and incredibly short distances to pass through that makes the warm and small appearing larger on the inside SOMEHOW place seemingly such an architect's impossible masterpiece just to behold from the outside to the inside alone, then, -your getting to see what you actually came to see, this awesomeness and righteousness and incredible, unbelievably amazing ART and perhaps actually even an actual artist or artists because they've even got performance ART there from time to time as well, incredible just doesn't quite explain how incredibly incredible that incredibly incredible Frye Art Museum actually is to witness! I've been going for over 15 years and there's always so much righteous ART that I, myself took the time to write this review about how awesome this particular place in Seattle Washington really is to myself and others loving it always! The staffing is friendly enough and I'm certain they've got a "free" day or two every week. My favorite ART museum in Seattle WA.

Eddie Kamenzind

As usual there are more exhibition spaces closed for setting up new shows than there are open and installed shows. It is a free gallery with a bistro that serves great food. Its better for the food than the exhibits. I am an advocate for making art available for everyone and applaud that motivation. Loved the chicken salad.
Go here if you want to see some art. Rotating exhibits. It’s not too big and overwhelming. We saw a performance there too. And there is a nice cafe inside. They don’t sell “museum” food here. Very good. My family says the expresso was very good.
Truly one of the treasures of Seattle. And the Black Refractions show is a world class experience.
For a free museum the exhibits were wonderful, the short film was Warhol-esque and strange and fun. Cool gift store! Really unique interesting gifts. Had soup and coffee in the cafe which as always was really delicious. Went across the street to check out St. James Cathedral, another Seattle architectural wonder For religious and non-religious people. #ILOVETHEFRYE.
The Frye is a solid if minor museum; it offers no singular piece(s) of art that would make the Frye a must-see. But the museum staff is energetic, passionate, and imagination-rich, which helps make each visit a joy. (They make even the most minor art a masterpiece.) The museum’s curator(s) create some truly ingenious shows that offer excellent art on loan from other museums.
The Frye certainly warrants a visit by locals as well as for those tourists on the art museum circuit or with excess time.
Great exhibit to see some of the Frye personal collection. Donations for admission but not necessary
A truly calming oasis in the center of Seattle. It's free but please consider donations to support a unique Seattle establishment. It's very small, but exhibitions rotate relatively frequently so it's worth revisiting. Parking is sparse but it's accessible via public transit.
Very impressed with the Frye Art Museum. The bold contrast between the Frye's permanent collection & their captivating contemporary exhibitions is a great success. Be sure to grab a book on the West wall in the Salon to add some context to the beautiful works before you.
I have always enjoyed the freshness of the traveling exhibits. Not sure if I like how they have cubi-,holed the old regular paintings :/
I highly recommend checking out the Frye if you haven't yet. Their permanent collection isn't the most impressive (a version of Franz Stuck's "The Sin" is their main claim to fame), but their temporary exhibitions are engaging and well thought out. Going there is always free (the museum's founder asked it be so in his will) and there are events and guided tours. The building is sleek and well lit.
I like art a lot and visit local museums and galleries all the time. Frye Art Museum always has exciting exhibitions. You can see classical art and modern as well. I come here with children, so they can also be inspired and educated.
Very cool place with free admission. The exhibit they had while we were there (To: Seattle, Subject: Personal) included contemporary art, including two multimedia exhibits. The little gift shop was cool as well.
The exhibitions here are always changing. So even if you gave been before it worth taking another look.
I love the Frye. They have innovative and modern art, they always have fascinating new exhibits and at least one large room full of 18th and 19th century European art. Don’t be fooled, it’s larger inside than it looks! And definitely definitely check out the wonderful gift shop and cafe. I could spend hours here.
I can’t believe this museum is free! Right now (Holiday 2018), there’s an amazing mental health exhibit in place. Quiet, architecturally beautiful space to think and view insanely talented local artists’ work.
Amazing and beautiful museum with a great gift shop!
Always free and the exhibits change regularly. Definitely worth a look if you enjoy art
Small, but really beautiful collection on display in a beautiful space.
Awesome little art measuem. It's totally free to get in and they allow you to take pictures of all the art as long as you do not use flash photography. The architecture of this building makes the measeum a peice of art on it's own. One unfortunate thing is that they used to have a parking lot that looks like has been sold or may be the home of an expansion. Either way it does not take away from this amazing place.
The collection is great. They change it often. The current exhibits are pandering to the current poltical/cultural zeitgeist.
Small musuem tucked into First Hill, brings old world and new age together. Well worth the visit. Especially because admission is free, but do try and make a donation. Staff are very welcoming and helpful.
Nice place to drop by during quick visit to downtown. Has a free parking lot across the street so was convenient. Pan Gongkai exhibit was there when I visited, black and white paintings of lotus flower. Totally neat. Has a small cafe with sit down tables and gift shop. And FREE admission everyday (closed sunday)!! Check their events page for storytelling for kids, meditation hour, and other offers.
Always one my favorite art museums in Seattle. Always cool exhibits like the current Tschabalala Self and the Frye Salon has the classics. Plus free entrance is an added plus. The museum store always has cool stuff as well.
When I went, there were only two exhibits. One covered the works of Donald Byrd, the other showed how the female form was idolized in the last few centuries. While it critiqued the notion of the ideal female form as white in the informational material, the exhibit itself seemed to reinforce rather than critique that notion.
It is a beautiful and modern museum with excellent exhibitions. My daughter and I enjoyed the "Towards Impressionism: Landscape Painting from Corot to Monet" exhibition very much. The Frye salon was breathtaking.
An amazing place to visit when you are looking for quality art works and without too much of the consumerism like the main stream museums in Seattle.
Also, don't forget to donate few bucks. It helps to keep a museum to run without charging admission.
The staff were friendly, the exhibits were interesting, and it's free! The air conditioning was also wonderful during the Seattle heatwave.
I always stop at the museum store when I visit the Frye. The most tasteful and well-curated museum store in town by far.
This was a fantastic museum and my favorite find of this year in Seattle. While not a large museum, their exhibits were thoughtfully curated and they use their space well. I have visited most of the museums in the area and this is hands down one of the best.
My favorite Seattle museum, always an interesting show beautifully installed.
Very intimate museum with "Group Therapy" as it's headline exhibit.
Enjoyed this exhibition tremendously. Gave me introspection, pandering, relating and understanding the conceptional moving pieces of the human psychie to the beyond and back. People were professional and helpful.
It is a bit difficult to get to as a tourist. Otherwise, I'll be back.....Lori of SF
A free museum with a small collection. There seem to be traveling exhibits at certain times of the year.
It's German art in the late 1800's and early 1900's that didn't see the changing times of modern art and stuck to more traditional salon style pieces.
These are of a style of painting I admire but there is a lack of information readily available.
ITS FREE. Need i say more? On my most recent visit, half the place was under transition of a new installment. However just the main room with the Frye family collection & the gift shop make for a good artsy hour..maybe 2hrs when the whole place is open
It's Seattle's tiny hidden jewel. There's always an exhibit here that will appeal to any lover of art, regardless of how developed your tastes are. Especially nice if you're light on cash and want to take in culture.
I love this place. They have great art exhibits and the permanent collection has many beautiful paintings. The museum is free which is awesome and there is also free parking across the street.
A gem in the city. Interesting collection, great exhibits.
The salon room is easily one of the most unique and incredible arrangements of paintings I've ever seen. The museum is well laid out, easy to navigate and well arranged.
Stunning, my favorite museum in Seattle. Beautiful art work. Nice cafe! Great people! Free but suggested donation. Truly incredible place.
Gallery has a mix of wonderful painting and some others that you would have trouble selling at a yard sale. The video projection section had some of the worst 'art', here is a video of 50 pictures of an ugly house. The cost is nothing but your time so go check it out.
My favorite museum in town, hands down! Always interesting, as the wall move with each exhibit, so the museum is different every time. And best of all, ALWAYS FREE...as art should be!!
Its small, its free, its changing. I enjoyed it.
Some really cool exhibits.
One of the best small art museums I've been to. The building is amazing and the exhibits are smartly curated. Plus it's free to enter. Definitely worth a stop.
The Frye has changed. It used to be devoted exclusively to representational art of all periods. That is, no abstract art, no conceptual art, no minimalist art, no installations, no performance art. No basketballs suspended in a fish tank ( Jeff Koons ) .
The museum was initially built to house the collection of Charles and Emma Frye. More representational art was acquired and the collection grew.Shows from outside were mounted such as the works of Bo Bartlett, Wilhelm Hammershoi, Nicolai Fechin, Maxfield Parrish, Toulouse- Lautrec, Norman Rockwell, Renoir, Daumier. While other art museums were going in different directions, The Frye remained the last bastion of representational art... landscapes, portraits interiors, still lifes.
Personally, I think the spirit if not the letter of the Frye's will has been betrayed. I think they would be appalled at how their museum has changed.
But the present directorship feels otherwise, asserting that the Fryes were innovative and forward looking collectors.
This is absurd.
Their collection contains hardly any cutting edge representational work of the time
The Fryes collected works by Bierstadt, Twatchman, W.M. Chase,Raschen, von Stuck, Bouguereau, Dahl Etc.
Among the 232 paintings in the collection there is one Cassatt, one Thomas Eakins.
Charles Frye began collecting in 1893, well after the advent of the Impressionists. But they do not make up a notable portion of the work he sought.
So, no....the Fryes were NOT innovative avant- guard collectors !
Currently, due to selling off the land for development, the parking lot is gone and there is no longer free parking. Admission continues to be free, though. Be sure to check what is on exhibition before you go lest you be confronted with a lot of things you do not care for.
In addition to its excellent collection and curation, this museum is free, and also very accessible: it is all on one level, there is a ramp to the front door, and they have wheelchairs available for those who need them.
It's free, so idk why anyone is putting less than 5 stars here. They have a new exhibit every so often as well as a permanent exhibit. Makes for a nice time killer or even a small coffee date
Free art museum that showcases a wide range of classical art.
Hours of entertainment enjoying different styles of art and paintings. I was very impressed with the quality and variety.
Would go again.
Small but nice (and free!) art museum. The permanent collection is getting a little tired at this point. I'd wait for a special exhibit to go again.
The museum is free, and the guided tour at 1:00 is AWESOME. Jeanne was our guide and she did a tremendous job of providing a great educational opportunity.
The current exhibition left tears upon my soul, superbly curated. The oil paintings were very poorly lit to the point that many were severely obscured by the glare. It's addmition is free and is a lovely environment . just a few blocks across i-5 from downtown
Beautiful art displays, make sure to look online for what is being shown. No free parking available,so, plan ahead!
This attractive gallery emphasizes its notable collection and new exhibitions in equal measure. Their community celebrates Seattle and Northwestern art. The cafe has fresh pastries and a small but complete beer list.
Small modern relatable contemporary exhibition space.
Some of their exhibitions don't even rise to the level of disappointing, but some are great. It is free, however, and time spent with art for its own sake is never wasted
Amazing free museum a bit out of the way of tourists. The art is consistently changing due to the help of donations. The cafe here is worth a visit too with its cute courtyard.
Attended the weekly Mindfulness Meditation held at the Frye. It's a wonderful way for those with experience or even those beginning their practice to have a steady weekly sitting. I'd say there are usually around 50 people in attendance and it's all run quite smoothly.
Best free museum. Wonderful exhibits classic art and innovative display. Spend some hours enjoying it. Treat yourself to the Cafe is terrific.
This is a free collection which is unusual in the US. Less impressed with the permanent Frye collection but the temporary exhibits were thought provoking and inspiring. The café was great too.
This is a great, free art museum in downtown Seattle. The permanent collection is a little repetitive, but the short term exhibits are excellent. They even have live music, from time to time...
Even better than the Seattle Art Museum. A lesser-known gem in Seattle. Well curated and interesting permanent collection and visiting collections. Five stars because it is free. Donate donate donate. Thanks!
A priceless collection that's cheap as free; a core collection of 19th century American art is elegantly balanced by diverse and creative contemporary art. It's a great place to spend an hour or so.
The place was a real fun time. The art was amazing.
I went to the "To: Seattle | Subject: Personal" exibition. I first explored alone and wandered more than 2 hours and found the information next to the art quite helpfull but not as much as I would have liked.
I went back the next day for a guided tour. It was done by a Seattle University Art History student, she was very helpfull and asked the "party" what the art made us feel. It was a very pleasant experience sadly only an hour.
Always a great collection on display. Free every day!
If memory serves me, and it doesn’t, I entered the salon in the evening during a thunder storm and the power went out. Grotesque faces laughed at me from the grand hallway. I suddenly found myself in a dark room glowing like blood. The faces of a thousand dead animals stared down at me, and I began sinking into the tile. In the nextroom, a film suddenly began playing and I became inexplicably hungry. In the gift shop, I thought of only magnets and hair ties. The torso of a bat glided above. That’s okay, I said to myself, my coat is already all wet. This may or may not have been a dream visit.
FREE. The permanent exhibit is a gem of Old World masters, but the curators also work hard to bring current, evocative art exhibits to the gallery. Always changing, always exploring. Art is a verb!
The Frye is a great place to pop in for a quick look at some interesting art and community events.
I think it would function much better as a more contemporary art space--and can feel the tension between the urge to do so and more traditional leanings (probably because of the home collection itself). But it is still a great place. I love the mid-day meditation and face lift of the gift shop (horrah!!). I would change up the menu to have more interesting foods--seems a bit too down home and could have more interesting small bits and vegan/veggie offerings outside of the brie/hummus standard selections. There was one museum guard who drove me crazy every time I was there so much so that I withdrew my membership (ie she kept yelling at everyone to step away from the paintings when they were well over two feet away! It was loud and so annoying! I complained several times, but she just stayed and continued to yell at people). But I think I might join again now that I haven't seen her there in a while :)
Anyway, great place for art, some food, great gifts and fantastic classes. Thanks for being here, Frye!!
ps Please, please, PLEASE don't bring that boring commentator who thinks he knows everything about film (the one that did a poor job with the Greenway retrospective). I want to stab my ears out every time I accidently come back to those talks with him facilitating. He just likes hearing his own unauthoritative voice!!
This little gem is a labor of love, and it shows. Thoughtful exhibits, with an eye looking forward and a nod to the past. Cafe offers reasonable light meals, with beer and wine.
One cannot say enough kind things about an organization whose only mission is to bring art to the public for free. I wish every community could have something like the Frye. Bonus: weekly meditations on Wednesdays!
A free art museum. There were two exhibits, the permanent collection and I think a woman named Bennett. Nice place to stop by. Clean restrooms and amicable staff.
Along with SAM and SAAM and the EMP museum, this is one of the must-see art venues in Seattle. They used to be mostly Victorian / Edwardian art centered, but in the past couple of decades have booked more contemporary shows. They usually have at least 2 or 3 shows running, along with the permanent collection. Unique among Seattle museums, they have free admission and free parking.
The star of the show is the salon exhibition. Really nice museum very close to all major downtown attractions, budget about 1h30m to get through it!
This is a fantastic museum for all people. Lovely cafe and a gift shop that has beautiful gifts. The staff is wonderful! Art what a gift to us all! Visit soon.
great museum ! I love that it’s always rotating and a fantastic place to take out of town guests. Plus you can’t go wrong with FREE admission
Free is my favorite price! Plus cool opening events, amazing and unique exhibits and an incredible permanent collection in the back. A MUST see in Seattle.
Beautiful art but annoying and painfully picky exhibit attends. I have a feeling that they don't like children and are extremely skeptical of cbildren. Also the cafe was super stuffy
Liked the contemporary exhibition. The collection includes lots of traditional portraits. The walk was uphill, which I wish I had realized before setting out
More than half the art is interactive or participation art. Movement including audio. If your group is larger than 6. Space to participate or access to headphones may become an issue.
Small museum with no highlights. Their cultural activities is what is really good here. Free meditation classes on Wednesday at 12:30pm.
I enjoyed the historical older selection of art. However, I am not a huge fan of the modern art installations. Mostly, the modern art struck me as bizarre and distasteful. I would suggest a revision to reduce the amount of modern art and return to displaying more traditional art.
Nice facility with the bonus of it being free. That is a funny term as it is run by donation. Has some interesting exhibits. Worth the walk-through if you are in the area.
Wow, not just the amazing art exhibits, but the building itself is a 20th century architectural design to be treasured, free parking across the street is a plus, the staff is friendly, well informed, and the inspiring art collections are unique and awesome.
We enjoyed the exhibit of the original paintings that created the Frye collection. The current temporary exhibits weren't worth our time.
Small but very interesting art museum. We especially enjoyed the Juventino Aranda and Frye Salon exhibits. A nice way to spend an afternoon.
It's fairly small, and the permanent exhibit is far too crowded to be effective, but the temporary exhibits are definitely worth your time. Plus, free!
The museum is rather small, but it is easily walkable and has excellent, rotating exhibits. If you’re looking for a large museum with tons of rooms and floors, this is not the one.
It's a small Museum, and I didn't love one of the two installations they had, but it's donation-based admission, with a nice, little cafe. Worth a visit, for sure.
I love this museum for not only keeping it free to the public, but for changing it up all the time. There's always something new to see each month :)
Small, lovely museum in a quiet area of Seattle. The Black artists exhibit was wonderful!
Due to pandemic, limit people allowed in at any given time. However, they also exhibit little art works. Hopefully, they will back to full exhibition soon.
Great museum for both contemporary and academic art. Wish they'd stop giving performing artists visual art exhibitions and not crediting their visual arts collaborators but whatever.
Always free - small but lovely museum. Free parking too (although the parking situation will be in transition soon because of new construction that will be taking over parking lot - so stay tuned).
The best part is admission is free... and it's a great place to see the contemporary art. I am so grateful to be able to visit here (:
Free entry when I went.
Some pretty nice landscape paintings. They have a whole room completely covered with paintings which was really cool.
THEE best museum store in town. inspired.
Free admission (though I always like to leave a donation). The main gallery is amazing, but the rotating special exhibits never disappoint.
Somewhat small exhibits, but they have them packed to the brim. Free entry, so well worth the trip for some good art.
Small but really nice museum. Friendly staff and a really cool gift shop . lot's of construction going on so parking sucks.
Great exhibit, the staff could be more engaging with ALL guests. They just sit there talking to each other.
Very small museum. OK for the free admission, the room with classic paintings you see on all the google pictures is the biggest exhibit I would say.
Pretty nice !
Couldn’t take pictures I think the whole museum is traveling which makes sense .
A local treasure. Nothing but good things to say about this place. Wonderful permanent collection, great exhibits. Fun coffee shop. Spend an hour, spend a day.
Lovely little museum. After browsing the current "visiting" works, it's always nice to view the founders extensive collection (which is rotated regularly each year).
Free art museum. On going exhibition of early 1900 German/Munich school art. Rotating modern art exhibits. Great space great cafe as well.
love that it is free! and the rotating art is well thought out and thought provoking.
Definitely worth a stop if you are in the area, especially since admission is free everyday. If you love portraits, you will find a lot of beauty here.
Nice option if you want to enjoy some culture for free.
It was great they only had two exhibits available at the time. They were in the process of adding others. But the two we seen was great
Completely free, great staff, and it has a really cool gift shop. Very artsy and unique. I felt safe here.
I consider the Fyre museum a jewel of our city. Art enthusiasts should not skip this place, and I recommend parents coming here with their kids to open up their minds about the classic arts.
Free museum with quality art. Rather small but but it does change frequently so it's actually nice to be able to see everything in an hour or so
Great community museum. Entry is free, and they always have some unique displays and exhibits.
World class gallery with free admission!
WOW! Only wish I had found this gem sooner! I hope to take classes soon, but their hours for them are a bit hard to achieve. Nonetheless, certainly worth a visit!
Beautiful arts and exhibits. Don't read the paragraphs next to the paintings though, they ruin the experience.
At the time I went, the exhibition was "Group Therapy." It wasn't really my thing but I did enjoy the permanent collection of paintings in the gold frames.
Great mix of classic works and contemporary pieces
Smaller than I expected and limited in artwork, but the classic/Renaissance paintings are phenomenal! I appreciate that the admission is free.
Great museum, cutting edge art, well displayed.
The Frye is free! They host incredible rotating exhibits by a range of artists and has an exquisite permanent collection salon style.
great works of modern artists
Very good
A small but intresting museeum.
Group Therapy is one of the Frye's best recent shows. We are lucky to have this museum in our town.
Always a great experience! Perfect multi-generational outing.
Every sandwich is filled with goodness. C'est plus proche du café français you can get! Healthy soups and delightful desserts.
So glad this place is free!
This quaint museum has a beautiful gallery as well as incredible exhibitions. This is definitely a museum to check out. Not to mention its free!
Nice place to visit. Small but it changes enough to stay interesting. Also it's free, though you should give it some of your change.
Nice art museum with changing exhibits and events such as lectures and guided meditation. It is pay by donation as well.
Substantial disappointment, sadly. I wanted to like this museum but there isn't much to it.
A gem with amazing pieces. I prefer classical art styles but it was nice to look at what's happening in the more modern/abstract arts.
Free museum with changing exhibits of local and international art. Nice cafe which is sometimes overwhelmed by large crowds.
Very cool, flexible and eclectic space with multi-media exhibits of a wide range. Gift shop is awesome!
This art museum never disappoints! They have an interesting and varied rotation of exhibits.
A really lovely art museum. Worth checking out!
Really nice museum. My daughter and I enjoyed our visit and we’ll definitely be back!
Check to make sure you aren’t visiting between
exhibits. A bit on the small side, but the gift shop is interesting.
It is so great that this fine museum is subsidized so well by the Seattle community and able to maintain free entry by the public!
A gem in Seattle. I have visited this museum many times. Having a free museum to sit quietly and enjoy art is such a joy.
Being a artist I can appreciate different views and styles of art! I enjoy the portraits because it was realistically detailed & told a story!
Awesome thought-provoking regular new exhibits and great permanent collection. Can’t beat free admission either!
Cafe is great too. If you can affird it drop some money in the donation box so this can remain free of admission.
Seattle treasure, always interesting and often challenging. Check out the work they're doing to reenergize folks with memory loss - awesome!
I really liked this museum. I think the only bad thing was the lighting. Sometimes the glare on the pictures took away from enjoyment.
Free! Love to take my 6yo here and discuss the different paintings and pretend we are at the places in them.
One of the last museums with both free admission and excellent programs. Cafe has best coffee in Seattle.
This place has been transformed since they "reinterpreted" the original mandate to only show representative art. Great space, lovely cafe, terrific shows.
I generally hate museums, but this place has had some exhibits I really liked -- R. Crumb, for example -- and it's _free_. Free!
Great exhibitions with a beautiful permanent collection of romantic art.
A beautiful site and parking across the street, but walking is easy.
Two rooms of art. Well....one room of art and one room IS the art. There is one piece that made the trip totally worth it: The Shepherdess.
Came with a museum novice, had the opportunity to talk about how museum s work the permanent and rotating exibits work. Lovely day.
Small but perfect for a lunch hour. Great children story/art time, with drama school facilitators.
The museum is educational, but very small. Not much to offer kids to keep them occupied.
Excellent small art museum with a quality collection and not crowded and it's free!
It's small, but nice to visit and it's free. I like the gallery where you are practically surrounded by art.
Always free! A wonderful gift in Seattle.
Free admission. How can you complain? Great art, friendly staff. Located near the Seattle Central Community College.
Superb curation and no admission fee. We need more art museums like this!
I visited this place a while ago, and though I don't usually go see art museums, I really enjoyed it (especially the free part).
Get on their mailing list. Live jazz and a beautiful art gift shop. The parlor is breathtaking.
I seem to always have an excellent experience at the Frye.
That might be the fine art talking...
An innovative, all-accessible art museum with superb exhibitions that always push the boundaries. Who doesn't love the Frye?
Beautiful museum with a large gallery space. Three hours got me through about half.
The Frye is such a gem in Seattle. It’s free, the permanent collection is so beautiful and unique, and the gift shop is stellar.
I've been here twice now and the first time was definately more interesting than the second, next time I'll check online to see whats going on before I make the trip..
Lovely little museum
A small and gorgeous museum. It is free and perfect for a short afternoon outing when it rains.
Excellent museum and very accessible to the public. Tons of beautiful art.
I love this place. I can’t believe that it’s free. Oasis in the city.
I've always loved the Frye museum, one of the last free amazing things to do in this city! Everyone go support!
Great free Museum with worry shows rotating.
Amazing free gallery. Visited the group therapy exhibit and thoroughly enjoyed it.
This was a nice little diversion away from the surrounding hospitals. So nice that the museum is totally free.
Love the Wednesday meditations here. The current Group Therapy installation is incredibly eye opening and insightful.
YES, Go! It's still open. Get your free time ticket online. Great Shows up!!!
Gorgeous art. Staff calm and friendly.
Great little museum, they sometimes even have free tours. What a lovely thing to have in Seattle.
Saw a dance exhibition was rather interesting, a lovely art museum indeed!
This museum is a gem on first hill with rotating exhibits and wonderful art programs & events.
Nice Museum and exhibitons. Definitely woth a visit and a great way to save money 😁 …
Free, with an ever-changing visiting exhibit. Just the right size for an afternoon tour.
A smaller museum, well worth a visit, some great exhibitions. And it's free.
Great museum with interesting regularly updated exhibitions, free entrance and cozy cafe.
Beautiful art from a man who bought paintings because he thought they looked nice. And it's always free!
Amazing art museum! Great collection! Completely Free!
Admission is free and there is beautiful art (mostly paintings) on display.
Small but exceptional mostly modern art museum, free admission.
Gorgeous, thought provoking exhibits.
Awesome free museum with some very interesting exhibits and live performances
Surreal exhibitions and a room full of oil paintings in the back. Place was ridiculous for absolutely free.
It's free! I love free museums. The building architecture is also very cool.
Great exhibits and parlor collection, intimate space, friendly and knowledgeable staff.
an oasis in the city, escape to the Frye and open your mind to carefully curated collections and calm.
consistently excellent and diverse exhibitions as well as featuring lots of accessible community events and workshops
Great mesuem to see new exhibitions , they keep it interesting with free tours
Probably visit just for the store as often as I come for the art
Gem in the heart of downtown. Great art exhibits and free! Food at the cafe quite good
Great free museum with changing exhibits, perfect for a short afternoon visit.
Neat current exhibits.
New exhibit on a regular basis. Free. Has a great lunch spot.
The staff in the cafe were absolutely refreshing during my trip to Seattle. Everyone was so kind
A fun collection donated by an old Seattle family. Often includes rotating exhibits.
Lots of cool art and a great gift shop!
Really trippy art. If you like being confused but interested this is the place for you! I'm not an artsy person but this was cool.
This is a fantastic museum. I often enjoy their exhibits more than the SAM.
bought my tickets online, entering was a very smooth process. great art
Love this place so much. It's free, usually filled with local art and always changing.
Very beautiful art, helpful staff, and free admission. What's not to like?
Love how the whole painting exhibit is crammed into one room, Grab a book to see what you're looking at.
It's ok, good thing it's free.
You can learn a few things here
A fun museum, a mix of modern and traditional. A great restaurant. A cool gift shop.
Cool pieces. Worth the stop, but it is definitely a quick visit. Tiny museum
Short but a good selection of pantings. The black and white photo gallery was terrible. All boring photos of nothing.
It's beautiful. Just go there. Deeply introspective art exhibits and amazing talent.
Always a treat to visit the Frye. Amazing collections and always fresh with new work and installations.
Free, however they were changing exhibits and not too much to see. Call first.
It was an interesting visit. I am glad that we went to the Frye. It is free on Tuesdays.
Beautiful museum! Probably one of the best places I visited in Seattle!
Loved the Group Therapy exhibit and even more so Quenton Baker's Ballast.
This is a great museum for a quick visit, you van see the whole thing in just a couple hours
Wonderful tour and really appreciated that this Museum is free to the public.
Small and modern structure, with a beautiful collection of paintings and featured exhibitions.
Lovely museum with awesome paintings. Juventino Arandas' work was great!
A hidden gem people....check it out. Its definitely one our special free spots to visit and enjoy.
Fantastic display of oil paintings!! Free and free disabled parking spots!!!
Great walls full of good art, unpretentious, free admission, free parking.
It's free! But when I was there the exhibition on view was incredibly small.
Neat little museum with unique collection of nineteenth century paintings.
Interesting exhibits; friendly & helpful guides; cafe; free parking.
The founding collection is displayed salon style, floor to ceiling, around all four walls of the huge room. Don't miss it.
beautiful space, very nice little concert venue, great choice of artists
Small, but good architecture at the entrance and is free anytime.
Beautiful free museum with a serious collection and curators.
Great exhibits. Our granddaughter loved it.
Nice oil paintings and friendly docents. Can't beat the price.
Nice little museum.
The jazz concert was very good. Plus the collection is good too.
How is this not your favorite museum?
Friendly staff and free admission.
Great exhibit of pre-impressionist landscapes. Very cool facility.
Really cool gallery that always has new exhibits.
