Reviews of Utah Museum of Fine Arts
Only place I know in Utah you can see item forged by human hands hundreds and thousands of years ago. Incredibly amazing! Highly recommend if you truly appreciate arts. Most people seemed to look for 10 seconds and keep moving. I gaze in wonder for quite a while appreciating details and probing the creators thoughts and subjects.
Great little museum! You can get through the whole place in a couple of hours which was perfect for a date night. We loved the quit exhibit and will come back.
We really enjoyed the museum! I was impressed with the diversity of the collection. The larger than life-sized ceramic figure by Viola Frey upstairs on the second floor was really lovely!
A museum worth spending hours admiring art made by diverse artists. I truly appreciated that awareness of air pollution from an indigenous lens.
I give a round of applause for the museum making the intentional effort to place a physical sign that explains the chronic systemic absence of POGM/BIPOC in museum exhibits.
I am excited to see how decolonizing UMFA will look like in years to come. I will be back again in my next visit to Salt Lake!
Amazing collection! I went specifically for the quilt exhibition, but the entire museum was engaging and fascinating. Very kid friendly as well.
Beautiful displays of a variety of art. Great temporary shows as well. The university campus is a great place to walk around and explore. Every 3rd Saturday is free.
This was a really great art museum to check out. It once again had some amazing and iconic arts to look and see throughout the museum. I especially love some of the sculptures that you can also see through the museum as well some of them are very interesting and fascinating while others are just so unique and fascinating to look at as well. All in all this was a really great art museum to go within The University Of Utah and it is definitely right up there with the BYU museum of arts as being one of my favorite art museums to go and visit.
My father and I visited one afternoon during our summer holiday and thoroughly enjoyed the Utah Museum of Fine Arts. We were able to visit the "2020: From Here On Out" exhibit focused on local muralists in response to 2020. The exhibit and space was curated well to make visitors see and feel the emotions and understanding the artists conveyed through their works. The permanent exhibits were also nice to see. The museum is definitely a great stop while in SLC to take in bits of local and international art.
For the price you pay it's blah. The temporary exhibits were all closed and being updated. It takes about 1.5 hrs to tour the entire place. Some neat stuff for sure but it was just okay.
Fairly small but in a good way. You can see everything in 2 hours. The collection has a very wide range of time periods and cultures.
The UMFA is great. We attended as part of a class I took at the U. While it is not a huge museum. It’s just really cool and has a wide variety of all sorts of intriguing art
This place is awesome. The art is magnificent and awe inspiring. The photos I took don't due it justice. Spent a couple of hours here walking around and looking at all the art. I wish I could have stayed longer, but started to get hungry 😁. …
Loved this museum! Great displays, updated regularly, employees are very excited about what they do, free every 3rd Saturday so I can bring my kids. Also, the interactive backpacks are fun!
Though the collection is not huge, the amount is good. Which amazed me most is that is has a collection of arts from different continent of the world! Worth visit!
I am very proud of our Utah Museum of Fine Arts. They always have great exhibitions of public interest. Currently (July to December of 2022) the museum is featuring “Air”, which is very eye-opening and invites to reflection and taking action.
The museum collections are impressive, with a great array of European, Native American, Asian, Mediterranean, and African art. The spaces feel open, clean, conducive to learning and admiring. I can confidently say that the UMFA rivals many European museums, and its right here in SLC. I highly encourage everyone to visit. (It’s free the first weekend of every month; no excuses)
Fairly nice collection of art. Don't expect to see any of the great masters work here though. Good art from many different periods from antiquity to present day. You can spend about an hour and a half here.
It’s a nice museum that accommodates U students. I was there last summer & enjoyed it. The front desk is friendly as well as the gift shop. It’s not the biggest museum & it’s not the biggest collection, but it’s definitely worth going to appreciate what they do have.
What a cool stop when visiting the city. I loved the tribal arts and they even had a mummy! I also enjoyed the one exhibition about Muslim cultures and challenging the stereotypes present in our society today.
Small but interesting museum. Has about every kind of art. I enjoy my visit, took me a bit more than an hour.
Enjoyable, not too many people, but currently many empty exhibit halls
The new Cartography of Quilts exhibit is an artistic way to look at mapping, highly recommended for any geography lovers
Small, but great art museum. Definitely check it out.
Interesting! It has just a few galleries but all different and worth seeing.
This place was great. It's a lot bigger than I thought it would be, and has several different galleries with different themes. Really fun time, will be back!
Nice art show pieces of different cultures
Wow. Great place. I loved the representation from different nations and cultures around the world. There's a large ballroom-esque area with very large and intricate paintings on the walls. Also the sculptures were impressive. Some great material and very educational. The gift shop is stellar too.
Really enjoyed my visit. A good selection of ancient artifacts and paintings. Staff was friendly and helpful. It was a quiet, thoughtful place. Will be going again soon.
There is free parking! Just sign in at the front desk on your way in after parking. In addition, for the first half of Spring 2019, there is free yoga in the great hall on Thursdays at 1 pm. University staff and students get in for free. Children ages 5 years and under also have free admission.
Very nice open galleries, the spaciousness is especially good given the pandemic. Plenty of gorgeous art from every conceivable era, as well as educational exhibits like the water one. I also like that it's well air-conditioned, probably right around 64 degrees (if u get cold easily, make sure to have a cardigan or grab a hot cocoa from the cafe)
Field trip w/ 6th grade students. Found allot of pieces of art I could appreciate without knowing a ton about art.
Great fine arts museum, that I would give five stars to, if they had a better showing of photography! I have always have been disappointed with the extremely small displays of photography at The UMFA. Let's have more photography at The UMFA! Utah photographers, analog photographers, digital photographers, historic photography, etc! You get it? Thanks!
Small building, what I would consider a small collection. But the UMFA makes up for it in interpretive stuff. Everything is written in simple English and Spanish (!) and lots of works have discussion questions associated with them. Plus engaging workshops on 3rd Saturdays. Today I went to a print workshop—they sent me upstairs to familiarize myself with some prints in their collection (Rembrandt, Goya, etc) and then I got to make 3 foam plate prints for free.
I really enjoyed it! The customer service was awesome too. I didnt love the downstairs because its not my style but i LOVED upstairs! Theres really something for everyone.
Beautiful art museum. First time visiting and it was incredible. Art from all time periods and locations.
This place has some really good art including modern and historical pieces it is a good place to spend an afternoon if you enjoy art.
Best fine art museum in Utah. Great collection with a lot of variety. Not the biggest collection, but enough that it takes a couple of hours if you take your time. A little pricey, but free for many Utah college students.
I really enjoyed my time here. Nice flow from one exhibit to the next. A couple of pieces on display that I really loved.
We went on free day. My kids were boarded after about 30 minutes after during so far it was a bit disappointing. Many displays were closed. We have been before with more interactive exhibits, they were sorely missed this time.
Great museum and art gallery. Several exhibits made the trip fun, interesting, and different in each room we entered. We planned on staying a few minutes but ended up spending a whole afternoon!
Well kept, clean, and friendly staff.
Not a lot to see. If you are an art fan, you'll like it
Lovely way to kill a few hours on a snowy Saturday. I really appreciated how effective their Covid policies were and their current visiting art installation was so incredible. 👌🏼 …
Museum of Utah has a small but pretty incredible collection of art from the Renaissance to pre-renaissance to African arts American landscape artists. I know they have one painting by the guy whose name escapes me at the moment but he taught Sandro Botticelli how to paint.
I was lucky enough to have been frequenting this place for enough years to have seen the original African art exhibition back in the I think it was the late 80s maybe early 90s absolutely incredible exhibition but they do have a good room full of African art including tribal masks, staffs, trinkets and medicine bags.
You can get in free if you research how but it is not expensive if you do manage to get in free please donate so that we can continue to have such a great place to view fine art.
At the moment they believe they're only taking reservations due to Covid-19 and limited room in the galleries but we made our reservation two days in advance and had no problem getting in.
Absolutely worth a stroll through...
Really nice museum. Big enough to spend a couple of hours but not overwhelming. We saw the whole thing in about 1.5 hours, taking our time. They've got a good variety and it's very well curated, with great, thought provoking signs by the artwork. I've never seen museum signs that asked questions of the viewer! Also all signs were in Spanish and English, which is awesome. Too few museums are bilingual. Keep up the great work Utah Museum of Fine Arts!
Cool place, students go in for free. Nice walk and lots of stuff to look at.
Culture is an amazing thing. This wonderful exhibit does not lack any. Take your friends, family, enemies. Anyone that likes the above and beyond when it comes to wonderful art and exhibits.
The staff were really friendly and helped refund our ticket when one of the group couldn't come. It was very clean. The pieces on display had information plaques that were in both English and Spanish.
Great venue for our daughter’s karate school event!
Went to see a special exhibit for black history month which was well curated. Regular exhibits were interesting and well displayed - although I would have liked a bit more information. Nice gift shop and cafe, convenient parking.
Lovely place. It is not as large as some cities' but it still has a great variety of artwork from all over the world on display. The variety held my children's interests as each room had a separate theme. There is a cute interactive kids corner on the second floor that captured my young children's imaginations with musical instruments and building blocks.
A great facility and knowledgeable staff lend themselves to this being a great art museum. I've been going here periodically for years, trying to go each time there's a new exhibit. They have really diverse, interesting exhibits. There is a good amount of art placed in this museum, and it's also a great setting for some of the museum's events that they host. Come here for a good art experience
Gorgeous space with all kinds of art from ancient, to island, to modern. We went on one of the museum's free days and it wasn't crowded at all. While I loved seeing the European sections, my kids enjoyed the African and Egyptian sections. We also sat entranced through the making art movie
This is a solid art museum with a wide range of art genres! Love the exhibition of their core art pieces.
It was a memorable day of African American Culture & Art. More featured African American Art Shows & events are needed in this State that I was born in!!!!
Excellent museum, and free for U of U students, as well as students of public universities in Utah. There is a large variety of collections and exhibits, and a quiet atmosphere.
Wonderful museum. I have taken nieces and nephews as well- great for well-behaved children!
When I went there because I had a writing assignment for class. I really like the newer exhibits, the ones that come and go, about half of the museum was getting renovations.. So a lot of displays were gone. I loved the Asian exhibit as well as the sarcophagus and mummy exhibit. All around I'd say it's a good place to go with kids and family.
Friendly reception staff. Interesting pieces from varied countries and style. Parking available for free but you need to register your car at reception.
It's great to have a quality art museum. It's not as large as you might find elsewhere. The selections are diverse and I appreciate the traveling/ changing exhibits. Admission seems a bit steep, but they offer free admission the first Wednesday and Saturday of each month. Extended hours on Wednesday, but it would be nice to have later hours on the weekend.
Went for a college arts class, had a lot of fun exploring all of the different artwork.
Loved the exhibits and the store!!! I'll be visiting more often.. also on the third Saturday of every month where there are cool activities!!
When visiting the University of Utah, take a few minutes to go through the very good selection of art from different parts of the world. Low in quantity but high in quality.Thank you to the donors for adding this gem to the campus and the community.
The staff is very nice and the art pieces are absolutely amazing.. saw the Africa and Pacific and was impressed of how many beautiful pieces they had. Place ia clean. They have a little shop that has some cool jewelry and a cafe .
Nice selection of the art I like and a well stocked gift shop but $16 a person for such a small museum is a bit much
Wednesday early evening and free! The art is accessible in a strange way. No protective cases around most of the paintings makes it feel somehow....personable? We had a great time and will go again.
It’s so pretty, and the place has good atmosphere. It’s best on days where it’s not crowded because you can spend time admiring the art and the small spaces where they have religious statues. I love the tour guides too they take time to explain symbols and the importance of each piece. Best place in UT!
This museum offers a well curated blend of traditional European art, classical and ancient pieces, as well as an intriguing selection of modern works. Check their website for current exhibits - they often curate very interesting selections in an easy to navigate modern space. First Wednesdays and third Saturdays are free admission!
I love this museum so much. I am so thankful that they can bring in such great pieces for Utah residents to enjoy. Great accessibility, fun events, thought provoking exhibits, and affordable.
One of my favorite ways to spend a day in SLC!
A museum of surprisingly high quality, especially given the fact that it's in Salt Lake. The permanent exhibits span a wide variety of art styles and periods. It genuinely felt like I was in an extremely miniature version of the Met, which is a great compliment. The exhibit that hosts local artwork is also delightful.
Phenomenal art destination. Beautiful, unique, delicate, and very well curated. A great place to ponder. I loved the women's art exhibit from March even I was there, and the interactive future Mars colonization one downstairs was also great. I like the balance between local, contemporary, global, and historic art.
So much fun! The art of course was gorgeous! The interactive parts let you travel to another world for a couple hours as well. I went with a good friend a few weeks ago, and I must admit you could of mistaken us for 7yr olds in the child's play area. I now have such wonderful memories from the experience I had here. Thank you, guys!
Awesome! Free to visit on the third Saturday of each month and I loved it!!! Really top notch temporary exhibit on Chiura Obata, just amazing. Regular collection had some great pieces too. Friendly and helpful staff and beautiful museum!
Great
Nice overview of art history. Weak on special exhibits
It was a decent museum. Not very big, but very well put together. There was a variety of different arts.
It is always fun to explore the art.
Great variety of old world art.
Wonderful art from around the globe!
Too small for a city this big. Decent collections, but no room for large visiting exhibits. Building feels dated for today's art museums. Museum should be moved off campus to downtown, similar to what Denver has done.
We visited this museum today and spent all day looking at the exhibits. The details says the admission is free, but it is not. The cost for entry was fourteen dollars for my wife and I, I believe if you are a student, faculty or staff out would be free. Other wise expect to pay. It is worth it cost thou, like I said we spent the better part of our day at this museum.
If you like any genre of art, it doesn't hurt to go here. It might seem a bit expensive but you get to see a lot more art than at a free gallery. My favorite part has been and still is the oil paintings. There are a few of the Salt Lake Valley that are stunning; one of which that moved me to almost crying.
Solid place as a university art museum, less so as a state-level art institution. UMFA's collections do cover a diverse range of geographic areas, but for each one of them, there is usually a lack of depth or focus. Perhaps the museum needs more gallery spaces to better present its collections.
Still building up again after the pandemic. The permanent collection is there and as inspiring as always. But as of July 2021 no guest exhibits or new installations.
Very nice. Definitely going again and keeping better track of changing exhibits.
Great museum. The building itself is a work of art!
I work here, and the museum is beautiful. They have a holiday market, modern art pieces as well as historical, and the cafe by the entrance is to die for! Plus, if you look at their website, there are days when admission is free!
It's fun to go here on Free museum days (First Wednesdays and Third Saturdays). The third Saturdays also have special craft activities that you can participate in. They are aimed for families and children, but I often enjoy decorating clay plates, making a sculpture, etc as well. The museum staff is very friendly and explains the exhibits that are going on.
UMFA is well-curated, and even though it doesn't have any singular stand alone pieces, it is does have some beautiful works by famous artists such as Renoir and Singer-Sargent. These master works are combined with unique exhibits such as Mayan pottery, Spanish art, and an Egyptian sarcophagus room. It is well worth the low price of admission (especially on aforementioned free days).
Let it be said that I actually like the streamer room. Sure, it could probably be used for a lot more art in the large hall, and it isn't my favorite Feher piece, but it is pretty awesome to have a Feher piece at all. His work is certainly modern contemporary, which many people don't appreciate; that's fine. But he is one of the biggest names in the US of this generation, and the pink streamers are just another example of his simple trademark colorful design. For the people that don't appreciate the neon pink streamers - at least he didn't paint an entire city lot pink here as he did in New York.
There is also a small cafe in the front where you can get cookies, scones, and coffee, which is a great way to end your visit, or hang out while the kids are doing crafts or listening to stories.
The parking is the one thing that leaves more to be desired, but if you go on the weekend there is plenty of free parking since permits aren't enforced.
The facility is great, the variety is ok however I feel like the discriptions for the pieces could be better especially for the pieces for indigenous peoples or pieces taken from temples or other relics. A simple explanation of what something came from or was used for would help educate and offer an idea of how it fit into daily life. Something I have seen at other institutions.
One of Utah’s best art museums. (That's not necessarily saying a whole lot because there are only a few that are worth visiting) Includes small to medium sized collections of everything from ancient Egypt to contemporary art. They have a big collection of work relevant to the history of Utan and the US. The collection of art of non-European cultures is quite good and is smartly contextualized. The exhibits of art from Oceania and Mesoamerica are really good. Contemporary art is well installed in a way that is smart and accessible. The educational things for kids and families are really well thought out. You can check out backpacks with activities for kids to do throughout the museum and there is a great learning and play space behind the Oceania area.
This establishment contains many unique pieces and will certainly provide many things for you to learn. Always make sure you read about a piece, because what may just seem like a black pottery bowl may actually be an example of artistic exploration.
Got no more than 3 stars because the display of the tribal art from uncivilized cultures true to bring our acceptance of intellect to the lowest common denomination. The European art saved the day at the museum. I would have asked for a refunded hasn't I found the celebration if an advanced culture.
The railroad exhibit is rather disappointing plus made unpleasant by the OCD employee stalking visitors in circles. Upstairs Congo collection of masks bequeathed to the museum is a highlight amongst the typical oil paintings. Not impressed by Ramos nudes, the small eastern porcelain collection is a good intro beginning but seriously needs more period pieces. The contemporary rotation piece of Tolerance at first cursory glance wasn’t much until stopping to really look at the conceptual global interpretations. A well rounded art museum needs art from the world, as for the petite minded reviewer who can’t see beyond his “advanced civilization” European art I hope he visits more and learns to open his mind. That is what art does to challenge the concept of egotistical perceptions.
Free in a day of week... Nice to see when in town!
This was a real joy, once we found it..very confusing directions. The Museum is very, very nice. Small enough to see in a few hours, depending on how much you read. Well worth a visit..
I've always had a fondness for this museum. I went this time to see the Georgia O'Keefe which was cool. I gotta say though, their gift shop doesn't ever attract my attention.
Oh man! The Mesoamerica gallery was so intriguing! They have Mayan pieces dating back to around 1000 BC I believe. I need to come back and really take my time perusing the place. Definitely worth the visit.
Well organize and nice collection of art pieces
Amazing European art, would go again 100%
Security is extremely weird and follow you around as if you're going to break something and some of the art lately is, umm, too religious. We need more professional locals from the community that are not being recognized.
This is a nice museum in a nice building; no flashy architecture by starchitect like gehry or piano but self-affacing building shows art very well. they do not have big name art like picasso or monet but small though comprehensive collection of european and american paintings as well as sculpture from asia and africa. full details on their website. i did not eat at their cafe. free parking. great place to spend a few hours if you like art museums.
Nice museum but the acoustics are terrible. If a performance is happening, it is very loud everywhere. You cannot escape the noise (volume).
Excellent Museum on University of Utah campus, not far from the library. While the galleries are not huge they are certainly well appointed. This museam has a little bit of everything from 15th century Chineese paintings and artifacts to Egyptian, Mediterranean, Mesoamerican, African, American Regional and contemporary art and artifacts. Special /Temporary exhibits are always captivating. If you are seeking some intellectual stimulation I highly recommend visiting UMFA. One can easily get lost for 2/3 hours in the museam.
The museum didn't get me, maybe because I lived mostly in big cities. But I also think the museum didn't concentrate it's resources efficiently, maybe it should concentrate more on local especially mormon and native art which is unique to Utah instead of being small version of huge art museums of big cities.
At the time I was there near the end of May looks like when the big halls in the first floor was closed off empty so I mean you're paying substantial admission fee and you wish you would get the whole shabab as they say if they have a lot of exhibitions closed.. they should give you a discount admission fee ...also beware parking in this specific designated spots for the museum... I received a parking ticket fortunately appears to be a warning ticket so I guess they take it seriously that they want you to park only in the museum spots and then you're supposed to tell the museum when you buy your ticket ...I don't think you have to pay extra but they want to know you're there in that spot ... Of the exhibitions that were open on second floor especially there was some very nice artwork and some exceptionally old artifacts
Rather expensive for what they have. There had a wide variety of pieces from around the world which were interesting. Wouldnt pay the full adult price had I known how overall mediocre this museum is
Great collections, love the mix of different media and different artist spotlights. Can't recommend more!
Really good but too short
Variety of exhibits, some very interesting but collection seemed small and without focus. Nice large galleries. Gift shop worth exploring.
Hang out underneath the Pink Strips of Flagging Tape and watch the strips move organically to the sights and sounds surrounding it. You can even join in on Tuesdays for a free yoga session which is pretty cool for this museum to offer! Trust me, these are just one of the ways to enjoy Tony Feher's installation but make sure to arrive after Spring 2017 when UMFA re-opens.
Have great art and beautiful set up. Ths staff are friendly and polite. Included in the building is a cafe and a gift shop. Wonderful tours.
Awesome place. I loved it. They're free the first Wednesday of each month. Art from all over the world. Exquisite museum.
Awesome place! Lots of historic art, and even some modern stuff too! Staff were a bit intimidating though, so that was a bummer. Everything else was really good!
Such a beautiful collection. I wish there was a little more information available about the pieces, maybe a few more child friendly activities.... A scavenger hunt or talking points for different age groups.
Discovered one of my favorite artists there as they were featuring his art, a Japanese modernist. Also they have a wide collection of native and ancient art from many countries including Polynesia and Egypt.
Beautiful building and galleries! Lots of variety in collections. Lovely gift shop and coffee shop.
This museum is a treasure. We love the exhibits. The permanent collection has some beautiful works that I could come see over and over.
Was nice. I would expect more art for the size of the place. But it was good. I went when it was free to see the Japanese exhibit.
Going as a student is free. I enjoy the local art featuring Western landscapes. Traveling exhibits are sometimes fun, but sometimes not. Try to find a discount.
Lovely little museum with exceptional art meticulously curated. A must see if you are in the area.
Simply spectacular! Sadly I did not have much time to enjoy it.
Great selection of art from all over the world. It was free for me because I am a student at the University of Utah. My three year old child enjoyed it as well.
Good size; 2 hours to walk through. Wide selection of art that should interest everyone. Good place to take the kids. Good parking. Cafeteria and gift shop.
Beautiful, a lot of awesome paintings, African masks and clay people.
I like how there is the empty room of paint colors ( the small paint papers from Lowes and Home Depot).
I had bad memories of museums from my younger years (boring, takes too long), but the UMFA was interesting to peruse. Note that they’re closed on Mondays to the best of my knowledge.
I was simply speechless to learn that they permanently acquired from the Smithsonian a mural of Diego Rivera. Colorful, organic, just pure to the soul art of the Latin Americas!
Was museum. Had fine arts. You could look but not touch. The no touching policy was the worst part. I wanted to touch all the art, but I didn't because there was a sign.
Wonderful to see great art. Nice collection. Beautiful building. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. So glad I'm a member.
So beautiful! Art for each culture!
great place to visit if you are in town. while it is not very large, it has many displays. Some of quite unique. There are also Saturday family programs.
Very cool pieces on display rating from the past to present. Best of all it offers free admission if you are a U of U student.
Nice collection, not busy even on a rainy Saturday afternoon. Modern facility. Clean.
A great collection, I was pleasantly surprised and spent a lot more time here than I originally intended. Went to a particular exhibit for a project and stayed for quite a while after.
A small collection of art. Multiple cultures and periods represented, but few pieces in each.
Great staff and a lovely building. The new black refractions exhibit is quite a treat
I was pleasantly surprised at how interactive the museum is! Make sure to ask for an activity backpack for the kids - Egypt was awesome!
It's a bit expensive and not very big, but they have some amazing, ancient art and artifacts. This is America, We just want a bit more.
Fun and unique! Enjoyable and relaxing! Transcending environment! Made for a great date of introspective perceptions.
Wonderful collections and special exhibits. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Great little cafe.
Wonderful museum with beautiful selections. Their Cafe is a must and their store has a unique selection of gifts.
Beautiful museum with art from many different cultures. Cost $18 to get in and parking is free across the street from the museum.
Really nice balance of art from all over the world and all different time periods. Cute gift shop.
Art was gorgeous and the building itself was immaculate. These factors we're complemented by the friendly staff and atmosphere.
Great Museum. Wide variety of art. Affordable. Nice little gift store
Really interesting exhibits, especially the mummy. Prices are a bit high for the general public, but free for local college students.
The UMFA is a great place for students to explore. I’ve been impressed every time I’ve visited, and greatly enjoyed my time. There’s a cafe on the main floor that’s fun to go to
Beautiful Museum with classic japanese wood block prints even a Hokusai nicely presented but Cafe is closed on weekends
Great diversity of art. Some very nice pieces, like a small section of the Chicago art museum. (Other pieces of "art", too.)
Lots of classic art and sculptures as well as good quick food in the museum. Parking was easily available and nearby.
fun, if youre into it! great food at the cafe and very interesting art works.
Really awesome museum. I just wish it was bigger and had more art in it.
Chiura Obata exhibition is incredible. Great art, poignant history, and inspiring prose. Highly recommend visiting.
I like this museum it has really nice art and it’s fairly larger than I expected
Great tour. Very nice clean museum. Worth the visit on free family day.
This a very nice collection well worth the visit. Even have a Sargeant. A nice surprise, would go again. Good cafe!
The exhibits were nicely varied and we'll laid out for a smooth transition between exhibits.
I went specifically to view the merchants, artists, and samurai exhibit. Some truly magnificent pieces.
Went for the transcontinental railroad exhibit. It was excellent. Also went through the other galleries. Very nice.
Fun to visit. Some beautiful art.
Awesome exhibits and paintings. Friendly staff. Check out the gift shop on your way out.
Incredible!!! So many incredible artists and pieces of art. Great cafe and shop as well.
Want to know why it's the state's fine art museum? I'm willing to bet that walking through the doors will give you a hint or two.
Free if you are a college student, like $17 if you're not. But if you appreciate art she is worth visiting.
It's a very good space with a remarkable variety of good quality pieces from history and geography, abd everything is well displayed.
Awesome place to check out, open to public, small fee to walk around to view exhibits.
Railroad exhibit was eye opening, just to think the hardships they had to deal with. Very cool stuff...
I went here for an assignment. it's reasonably priced, and was pretty much what you'd expect from an art museum
Gorgeous paintings that I stared at for so long
its a great time to just hang out and look at art. they have a great collection of art, and friendly staff
Very cool. A large variety of installations. Dont bring kids; you'll be here for a while
probably would have been a lot more enjoyable if it had not been raining, can't really say good or bad
Very grateful the UMFA showed support for black voices by holding the Black Refractions exhibit.
Small museum but always great to have a free visit as a student.

Most of the museum was closed today as new exhibits are being installed
Free on the day we went but otherwise not worth going to.
Amazing art exhibits and gift store.
Not the greatest place. The docents are very stuffy and have a hard time answering questions. Google and wikipedia answered most of my questions.

Beautiful
Not a bad place to get a little cultured did wish some of the exhibits were a little more detailed about the item and less about who donated them
Yesterday was exhausting, so I almost missed this opportunity to see the Utah Museum of Fine Art at the University of Utah. I'm glad I stayed, even though my body hurt from a day of driving and standing and walking. The guided tour was something special, too. My only complaint, and it's a big one, is that there were no benches to sit on. I'm spoiled with BYU's MOA which has plenty of seating around the exhibits in case someone has a different level of ability from someone else. I appreciate that. The artwork at Utah was worth the waiting and standing, though.

Yes, very nice, maybe a little bushy. But can be recommended with a clear conscience if someone is in SLC who can enjoy pictures and art; especially since there is not much else in the city... Such artsy philistines like me should have invested the entrance fee in a burger with fries and beer.
