Reviews of Fort Douglas Military Museum
Attended an event here. I’ve driven past multiple times over the years but never entered. Great collection of history are contained within the walls and on the grounds. I recommend paying a visit.
This museum is a fantastic place ot learn more about Utah and the contributions of the people in Utah during the various wars. The couple at the museum were fantastic! They knew so much about the various items on display and even more that brings so much context to the history all around the museum. The museum is located in a beautiful area of Salt Lake City and is a great place to take teens and young adults! Would highly reccomend!
This is a fun little museum to gain knowledge on Army history in Utah. Great exhibits and helpful staff.
Fun little free museum to learn a bit of local history. There is adequate parking for visitors reserved on the street and the volunteers are friendly and polite.
Absolutely an amazing little museum with lots of stuff. The staff is amazing too. They really know history
This place is an unexpected gem. On a whim we Googled "military museums" and lucked out. The staff here are all fantastic. They're friendly, enthusiastic about the exhibits, and eager to help visitors get the most from a visit. Be sure to go out back to see the tanks, helicopters, and guns. An easy 30 minutes just out there. Ask questions. They want to help.
I was quite surprised at first to see tanks on the University of Utah campus, then I realized it's a museum. It is free for everyone so it worth a visit, they have a few tanks, choppers and other vehicles in the courtyard. I visited on Thursday and it was not crowded at all. It's nothing very big though, the whole visit took me around 15 minutes, but to be honest I didn't read much of the information tabs inside.
The military museum hosted a veteran suicide prevention fund raising event on 8/27/22. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. The museum is fascinating, the grounds are pleasant and historical. We had a wonderful time!
This is a great little museum for the kids, specially if they like military vehicles. It was closed indoors due to covid, but the big ones are outside for you to go and see. Amazing historical pieces. We were the only ones around 2pm and my boys just loved it!.
I haven't been there in quite a while and the museum is spectacular. I was very impressed with the displays and history of fort Douglas in Utah.
Being from Belgium and whilst on hols in SLC last week, I visited the whole Fort Douglas Military-area whilst walking to the NHMU.
I was very impressed with all the beautiful, historical houses and buildings to then stop by at the Museum itself (only saw the military vehicles from the outside though).
You can have a relaxing stroll around, take some nice pictures and sort of imagine how it must've been like during those days.
Really thouroughly enjoyed the whole area and would definately recommend visiting! Best is on a clear, sunny day. I used public transport (TRAX RED Line) from downtown SLC to get there.
We had a great time here. The gentleman at the checkin counter was super polite and helpful and it was really cool to see everything they had. They had several displays of soldiers, different guns and weapons, uniform patches, tanks, helicopters, and other things too. Even had a display of wedding dresses from the time period that were made from parachute material. Was definitely a place worthy of checking out!
The young man who was in office knew his business and the history very well, my 11 yrs old boy was very happy with his visit and we had a great time. This museum is kind and meaningful ✨️ 💕 My son ended up leaving with a nice military helmet from the Vietnam War time that they sell there. It made my son's experience even more fun and authentic
Just love it here everyone is so friendly and so welcoming. I work at a daycare and they got to go to here for a field trip and i will say this the kids loved it the gentlemen were very patient with all the kids that came they are very detailed about all your learning which i love and i will always recommend anyone to go here and visit and get a tour!
A very interesting look into military history of Utah, the staff were very helpful and friendly. My son loved all the exhibits, thanks and helicopters. That stop made his trip to Utah even more exciting. A must go if you are in the area.
Small but plenty of displays and information on Fort Douglas and its past. Free to visit. Cool tank/artillery garden out back, too. The volunteers working also had plenty of information to offer and were really nice.
Must see if you enjoy history of Civil War, WWI, WWII. Takes about 90 min to see everything, the volunteers were friendly and knowledgeable. Entry is free, donations welcome. Good for all ages
The museum may be closed, but the gates to the displayed equipment are open. Just go down the hill from the museum to the open gate.
This place is also on a few ghost tours in slc, we’ve actually filmed orbs at night on that visit. A cool place to visit when in Utah...
Nice little museum with many uniform displays and a nice cannon and small aircraft & ground transportation display outside. The gentlemen who greeted us at the door we're very nice and had a great sense of humor.
Super neat piece of Utah war history. Very well put together and the workers are great!
One of the coolest locations I've ghost hunted. :)
Fun place to spend the afternoon. Lots of artifacts to look at. Staff is helpful answering questions and fun. We enjoyed our time here.
My kids range in age from 12-1.5 years, and everyone loved coming here! There were so many exhibits and they continue to add fun things to do for kids. It's really cool seeing all the war history tied into Utah state history and well beyond. The grounds are beautiful and well kept.
Great free museum, good Utah history
Incredible to go here and see the Utah piece of the Twin Towers from 9/11. Every state has a piece in memory, and ours is located here at the Fort Douglas Military Museum. Tragically beautiful piece of history to see.
If you love history this is the place for you. It has really cool stuff! Especially outside in the back. Big helicopters and tanks! Free admission. Donations are always welcome. Definitely worth your time. I would highly recommend.
While seemingly small and unimposing, this museum has a lot to offer. The gentleman volunteering was very knowledgeable and gave us a small tour. There are a lot of cool military artifacts both inside and out. If you love military history, I recommend checking this place out
I loved this museum. Definitely fun. I go here during my lunches sometimes and I always learn something new about the history of FT Douglas. The University is slowly buying more of base and this is a great way to see how huge the base use to be.
Excellent quality for a free admission museum
Well done exhibits. Very helpful docent.
Ride for Zero.
Very cool place lots of history and cool displays
This is a free museum with a gift shop. You can visit and read everything in under 2 hours. Much more information than I thought! Very nice displays. The outer yard could use a refresh. Seems there is some winter storage out in front of the helicopter displays.
I think this is a wonderful museum. The conditions of the uniforms and realistic mannequins were amazing. Strongly advise going. However, your outdoor flag is faded and torn. If you let me know what size flag you have i will replace it. Such an amazing museum needs a proper flag.
Loved getting to visit Fort Douglas! I was so interested in learning about this and had seen that it was a local museum that was free so that was SUPER appealing.
The people were so friendly and it was really cool getting to know them and learn about what it was like in the military. I have a tremendous amount of respect and just reverence for anyone who either does serve in our military now or has in the past.
There's so many different positions and things to be done but everyone selflessly making that brace decision To go is what helps everyone else along the way.
So cool to learn how long this place has been around!!!! It's amazing and ton of historical stuff from way back when that they have preserved and taken good care of.
Totally worth checking out and donate to keep them afloat! They are completely self sufficient so any and everything helps. They also sell cool gifts in their which is great cuz they have something for everyone. 😃
It's a very small museum and does not have much to offer. The military vehicles located outside are okay. It is nice to learn about how Utah played a part and how we helped during the war.
It's close at the moment because the weather,
This museum is a hidden gem in Salt Lake. I've made a lot of trips to the area and even lived there for several years, but unfortunately never knew about the museum abd just discovered it. It's very well done with plenty of artifacts and displays to interest anyone. The staff is friendly and very helpful. I spent 5 hours there recently researching a WWII veteran for a biography I'm working on and thoroughly enjoyed my time there. If you are a history buff, or war buff, l highly recommend a visit. It's a great place for a school field trip or family visit. Check it out!
Was on a ghost hunt here. We were able to have a history your before hand and I love historical places. The museum curator, Beau, was very informative and helpful and knew a lot about the different time periods.
Interesting exhibits, inside with tanks, helicopters guns outside. Small but well done on donations. Worth a quick stop by.
I'm not generally a fan of military museums, but I was here on vacation and my father wanted to go, so I came along. The museum was a surprisingly good. We received a tour from the front desk man cum docent. I also enjoyed walking around the back of the museum and checking out all the vintage military equipment.
Great historical site and a lot of tacticle vehicles to see outside.
Great museum with lots of displays with a very knowledgeable staff. Patrick was our guide and did a great job explaining the exhibits to our group.
There was NO admission fee.
Amazing experience!! 7yr old loved seeing all the tanks, cannons, and uniforms! The helicopters were his absolute favorite. The guide was helpful and shared lots of stories with us.
Couldn't think of a better way to honor our veterans that to learn some history about those who served here at Ft Douglas. Staffed by a great bunch of friendly, knowledgeable vets. Interesting exhibits with some great artifacts.
Great little museum. Free to enjoy. Located within the Fort Douglas National Historic Landmark and the focus of the Fort Douglas area history. They have some actives scheduled every month or so and they have active websites and facebook accounts that I have found useful. The best day to visit is during the Annual Fort Douglas Day in June. Also, don't forget to visit the nearby Fort Douglas Cemetery- great history there including German POWs killed after WWII during the Salina Massacre.
As it it is closed because of the virus my reason for going there was to donate a picture of my father's company when he was in the military and stationed there and receive some other information. The director Beau was very helpful and I will very possibly go there again when it is opened again.
Very interesting museum and a hidden treasure among campus. Includes a lot of history of the area while focusing on the impact of the military in the West. Would highly recommend to those interested in military history.
Great displays and lots of enthusiasm from the staff. Go see it (and leave a donation)!
It was a very good experience and well displayed very interesting videos about how Utah was help during the war and making a bullets and parachutes other food other experiences it was very well-mannered and polite very interesting the history is outrageous lie interesting
Very interesting displays from the 1800's to the present. Very friendly and informative staff. Well worth the visit.
Loved it. The staff are amazing. Please visit and support this fantastic historical venue, bring the entire family.
There was some interesting stuff, certainly the information Buffalo Soldier, but I simply didn't like it, especially the fact that they show Saddam's boats seem to be a very bad thing.
This is a great little museum with very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Lots of neat artillery pieces and vehicles outside on display.
Great place and the people are so friendly
Super cool museum!!!
Great place to learn military history of large conflusts along with specifics of Utah. Weapons and uniforms from each time periodare also represented.

Small museum, but has great atmosphere. People there can tell the history of the fort and the equipment at the museum.
We did the after hours Paranormal tour and it was awesome. It was a great time with friends and I hope the ghosts had fun with us LoL
Being from one of the longest military families in the United States it was so refreshing. The Vietnam veteran there was so amazing and hilarious! This is for all ages!
Really cool place to visit.
I did an unplanned stop and found access to the outdoor peices. The buildings are still closed due to covid.
No so busy, the curator was really knowledgeable and just a we'll put together museum
Very nice, helpful, and great place to visit
Staff hospitality was great! Educational...my 8 year old son loved it! I loved the tribute to nursing!
Museum is interesting and its free. However its very small. I walked the entire place in about 10 minutes. It could be better...
Tour guides are amazing. Spent 2+ hours here with my sons. Throughly enjoyed our time here.
Nice place to visit to learn about the history of the area. Small enough that it does not take a while to go through.
They had very informative information about the things they have on display.
Its a nice experience. Great to learn and see some of the machinery/vehicles they have on campus
Very informative.
I only wish I could do more to help.
So glad to be able to support these people!
This History is leaving us, don't let it!

Pretty cool place and updates since I was last there 15 years ago. The gentleman working the counter are very interesting to talk to😊 …

Retired MSgt Steve was of the utmost respectful and professional individual with whom I have dealt in a long time! Go Army!
It was a great look back into history.
Huge array of decommissioned military vehicles. Also supposedly so hunted that the ghost hunting crew didn't want to explore it.
Really cool museum. Check it out if you have time.

Quaint little museum with plenty to look at for any history loving folks. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
During our visit to SLC we took our last day to go to a few different sites, including Fort Douglas Military Museum.
Being both interested in historical sites, it was neat to learn the history of SLC and the fort in general. The volunteer (misc. Dead German soldier in The Devils Brigade) was amazing! It was nice to have someone walk through and give us so many extra details as we walked through the museum. Thank you for taking care of history and sharing it with the rest of us!
Awesome, Haven't been in years, It was really nice to be able to take my kids to see it again.
(Translation) War History Museum. In Salt Lake, where there is not much to see, there was more to see than I expected. There are also many exhibits about the Korean War and World War II, so it's worth a visit if you're interested in these fields.

(Translation) I liked it, a unique experience, when I was little, I saw a series of Indians and soldiers and a dog named rintintin Pensava that was a fable and in truth, it existed. I was shocked by what I saw in the Fort Douglas Utah museum, the fight between soldiers and Chochoni Indians.

(Translation) A very interesting place. Lots of artifacts. Full-length manikins reconstruct historical scenes. Free admission.
