Reviews of Fifth Maine Museum
Deciding on a venue for your wedding is no small task. From the first contact with the 5th Maine, it was nothing but smooth sailing. Gail and her entire team made the planning, logistics, and execution of our vision absolutely seamless. Extremely affordable, wonderfully accessible facilities, and oh my god THE VIEW! Being Portland residents, and both born and raised in Maine, this was the quintessential Maine Coast wedding venue we could only have dreamed of. Filled with history, it is the absolute perfect place for you to celebrate your nuptials, or enjoy the wonderful museum on your day trip to Peaks. The gardens are perfectly manicured, and believe it or not, we didn’t pay extra for the monarch butterflies filling the garden during our ceremony. If I could give this place, and all it’s staff 100 stars, I would! Thanks again for making our day PERFECT.
Amazing collection if history I learned Maine alone had 32 regiments and had over a total 48k men no ac no tv
The staff was absolutely amazing - the most friendly and enjoyable group of people I’ve been around in a long time. I love the family-run environment and how knowledgeable everyone was. I wish we could have stayed longer. The house is gorgeous, the historical artifacts and photos were interesting, and the surrounding area was amazing.
Very nice little museum. It is a communal vacation property built by members of the Fith Maine Infantry Regiment just after the civil war. Period artifacts, photos and gorgeous views. Volunteer docent enthusiastically explained the history. We were there on a Sunday and the wrap around porch was filled with local artists selling their crafts.
Great place to check out when on the Island. $8 for Adult tickets. But plus side is the porch is always available to sit and take in a view (no charge).
Very small and easy to get through with some great Civil War artifacts. Take note of when your going as it may be closed to visitors.
Had an amazing museum-going experience here. Learned some new things about the Civil War and the staff there were incredibly kind and helpful.
Civil war history and an amazing story! Worth a boat ride out to Peaks to see the place! We also attended a wedding rehearsal dinner on the porch- simply spectacular 💗! …
We love the 5th Maine and look forward to touring them every year. The history they have preserved and unique temporary exhibits really help you feel a connection to the island. The venue (porch and gardens) is very peaceful to sit and enjoy for hours on end. Lastly, the Sunday Morning Pancake Breakfast is awesome!!
A great little spot to learn some history. Staff is friendly and informative.
There is alot to look at and it has a good view from the deck.
I was able to purchase a bottle of water as well.
Bathrooms available.
It was a great place to stop for a break after walking the island, learn, and rest.
A must see on peaks island!
Mini vacation to Maine wouldn’t have been the same without our visit to Peaks Island and our stay at Fifth Maine! We were a little hesitant at first but once we got off the ferry, we were sold! The island is quaint, and the mode of transportation is biking or golf carts. Once at the Fifth, you are warmly greeted by the caretakers of this historic site and given insight as to why people keep coming back. The view is stunning, the location is practically secluded, and it gives you a needed sense of quiet.
Awesome restaurants ( 3-4 total) are also available.
Beautiful old house with interesting exhibits.
You will not find any more enjoyable tour guides. Friendly and hospitable.
Awesome little museum on the 5th Maine as well as the local history of the island, including WWII and Battery Steele. Awesome and knowledgeable people working there as well. Highly recommend!
Excellent exhibits, lots of Civil War era relics, engaging displays, and friendly, knowledgeable docents. The grounds are stunning too! Make sure to go out back and climb the rocks in the shore
The museums docent was really personable and helpful. It’s a small museum but really interesting and a gorgeous sitting area in the back with a fabulous view!
This is a beautiful and unique place. The view is incredible and the Great Hall, with the colorful etched glass windows are mesmerizing. Some cool exhibits too.
Beautiful, historic building with a fantastic view, great programming and entertainment during the summer. Excellent Civil War museum and history.
Wonderful views from grandly proportioned wide porch and local historic interest especially for military and Civil War enthusiasts. Suggested donation, site of local concerts in summer.
An accidental find walking along the perimeter of the island. A great little museum filled with lots of interesting facts. A must see if you are visiting Peaks Island.
Really cool piece of history on the island. Interesting to learn about the role of Maine soldiers during the civil war
