Reviews of End of the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center
My kids said this was their favorite place we’ve visited on our road trip! They absolutely loved the hands on exhibits- their favorite was the HUGE wall of dress up items (freshly laundered every day I was told) and playing school. There was even chalk and slates. Lots of history, signs, a good documentary to watch and a gift shop. Highly recommend
My mom and I visited here since we both enjoy history. It was fun for both of us. The museum has a couple of easy hands on crafts making a candle, doll and journal. These crafts along with the short movie put a more personal experience on the whole thing.
Nice to walk around and read the signs. Fun little activity to do on a sunny day with the family. The signs have cool information and shows lots of facts/people involved in Oregon Trail. Really awesome adventure to take 4th grader as the study the Oregon Trail in school. Sad that the center was closed. Would love to come back when it is open.
Nice and quiet today but has lots to see. Clearly a ton of history, a stage for concerts in the summer, a garden and across the street from Amtrak and Coaster Crossing. Has an interpretive center that is staffed with knowledgeable humans.
Great venue. Went to the Oregon City brewfest - good beer, food carts and music. Really fun event!
It was informative and enlightening, and didn't shy away from educating about the racism in Oregon's history.
Worthy of a visit. The exhibits are well displayed and do watch both film documentaries at the end. They provide the needed balance in perspective of a history that like anywhere is messy when you have migrants and native people's together in a place! The cost is $15 per adult and I would recommend for all migrants to the Americas.
Great outing with my kids school. Would have given 5 stars except I witnessed one interaction between a staff member and a disabled child in a wheelchair that was disheartening. Learning to interact with those that are disabled exactly the same way you do with those who are able bodied, is something that needs to be taught to those who work in a place that offers recreational education to the public.
9 year old daughter loves this place! Lots of dress up and pretend play. Make your own candles, fun takeaways. Educational fun place. Check out the pass from the local library and get in for free!
This place is wonderful not a soul there besides animals. The museum is not open which is a bummer, but it is wonderful for a picnic and mini walk. The only thing is that we saw one homeless person.
Not the best museum I've been to. It seemed like the exhibit space was a jumble of stuff offered together without a lot of context, though the video presentation did provide some of the context the exhibits did not. I especially appreciated the video about the indigenous peoples of the area. Regardless of the flaws, I appreciate any museum that tries to preserve and present the past.
This was so fun! They have many crafts to do in the museum and period clothes you can wear. I definitely will be back.
Friendly workers and two excellent movies. Exhibits had realistic or actual artifacts and good signage. Felt very sorry for the treatment of first nation's people but hope for the Grande Ronde nation.
This museum helps bring the personal stories to light. There is a lot of reading (should you want) but also a great short film, candle making, and a warm host at the front door who is very educated and ready to share history. It's an easy visit and doesn't have to be long, should you want to just glance through things. I do recommend reading a bit though, as that is where the stories are.
I'm so glad we were able to visit! The center is open and has a lot of interactive things for kids to do. Our favorite was dressing up and packing a wagon full of supplies in the general store. The other crafts and activities were fun too.
A large beautiful shaded parking lot. A good spot to wait or rest. Good place for kiddos. All the port-a-potties were padlocked shut.
Enjoyed it very much. Grandkids still a bit young but liked it. Great video, we need to do better with our Native brothers & sisters.
We were pretty impressed by this place. Definitely a great spot for kids. We made rag dolls and dipped candles. We felt the movie was more dramatic than informative but the room you go into after was full of interesting exhibits.
Google says they are closed on Sunday but glad we went because they are definitely open 10am-5pm. It was a good experience to relearn about the history of the Oregon Trail.
The museum has always been a place I love to take my kids every few years I recommend to anyone who has never gone
The End of the Oregon Trail has a wonderful museum and beautiful grounds.
This venue also hosts the annual the Oregon City Festival of the Arts on the 2nd weekend of August. The art show features photography, paintings, woodwork, jewelry, ceramics and more. Food vendors and live music add to the festival atmosphere.
A low-key and somewhat dated (pun intended) venue, interesting and worth the stop, even if only once. For the museum, conveying the historical information is primary goal (not entertainment) and comes by way of indoor exhibits (some of them activity-based for kids), many placards, a modest 25-minute mixed-media movie and some points of interest in the surrounding grounds. Some outdoor event stages apparently provide concerts, depending on the sason. If you are not already familiar with the Oregon Trail history, this museum will help put you in better touch with the legacy of the area.
Came here for my birthday for a brewfest in July and it was just awesome! To see a part of history is and read up on The Oregon Trail was educational and not to mention drinking beer while doing all this just add a touch of fun that makes the experience worth while.
It was fun with little stories of a few past community members including a holographic John Mcloughlin telling his story. There could have been more info on the historical community and the area or more on the famies travelings experiences as well but was mostly the oregon trail experience it's self, understandably given the name the end of the oregon trail. Was very insightful to the past experiences of woman who were at the mercy of men and or the elements of being left behind in some cases even.Plus remembring people died and babies were born and survival was what they all longed for at the end😊Cool stuff to see .
We visited for over two hours because there was so much to see and do. The movie was awesome and the staff was very knowledgeable and helpful too. Loved it!
this is a great place to visit to learn more about Oregon City history and about the early settlers to the West Coast in general.
There's a lot to see and many hands on activities for young children and adults such as candle making and doll making.
The surrounding area is very pretty and a nice place to walk and enjoy nature.
A nice museum to visit that has a focus on the end of the Oregon trail, as the name would indicate. My wife and I visited a museum at the beginning of the trail so it was a nice bookend to visit this one.
The exhibits give a nice general overview of the trail and information on some local history but there wasn't a lot of depth. It's kind of a small museum. Granted, we visited in late February so there were no outside activities, if they have any.
Great hands ON adventure. All ages will learn something new about the wagon train trips to Oregon.
It's currently closed due to Covid but you can walk around the grounds and read the placards. Interesting history. Cool design for buildings.
Friendly staff. Some wonderrful finds in store from art to foods and gift items with a regional theme. Clean with lots of parking and places to rest. Beautiful grounds and educational. Thanks.
Very cool place about the history of the Oregon Trail. Lots of activities for kids.
So fun and interactive for my three-year-old
The story never ending
Great information. Interesting to learn more about the migration of settlers.
Closed on Saturday. Looking through windows did not seem interesting. Nice park for events.
The 25 minute movie was worth it, especially if you are a history buff.
Very educational, little disorganized, but tolerable
This is am exceptionally cool museum and grounds.
This was a fun little park with small gardens and interpretive areas with information about the history of the trail and the area. There is a large indoor center which was not open when we were there. Free if you are just walking the grounds. If you are walking around, be sure to take the trail below and behind the building for more fun displays.
Great Concert Venue!
Parking lot is smallish, but there is auxiliary parking nearby.
Always nice spot to chill on a lunch break.
Interesting and fun. The staff are knowledgeable and helpful. Lots to look at and learn.
My husband's band played a show at recovery Rock fest 🤘
Great historical information. Had fun!
My friends and I were lucky enough to show up yesterday on a free day as they had an event going on with lots of hands-on learning, demonstrations, and outdoor happenings. There were plenty of volunteers dressed up for the event and it was really great to see that.
All in all, this was great fun and I recommend this interpretive center for anyone. Keep an eye out for events to get a little extra in your day!
The tour was very informative and Richard was fabulous in his descriptive explanations. The house has been beautifully maintained and preserved. The building is stunning. Such a rich history of the beginnings of Oregon and how it became part of the United States instead of a Canadian Province. I will be back again.
Only open Friday and Saturday and tours are 10:15 and hourly until 4:15. It's worth the trip.
Great field trip...the students and staff/chaperones loved it. Interesting with hands-on activities. We were a little confused about where to go/how to proceed. It would be nice if we had specific instructions for arrival. Someone greeted us, but the groups didn't know where to go. All-in-all, a great experience!
Such a fun place. Totally worth going to. You get to make a candle, rag doll and a little notebook that you can take home. Kids loved it. There is also a dress up area with small and big clothes so the whole family can dress up together:-) movie theater and hands on area with animal pelts, Lincoln Logs, and some other fun activities. You should totally go:-)
Great ending to my Oregon Trail adventure. A must see and worth the entry fee.
A great looking place outside. I gave it only 3 stars because they are not open during this time. I realize this is a tough time and at the same time I encourage them to do what it takes to defy the odds and open up.
Interesting place. It would have been great for my daughter (3 1/2 year old). They have lots of things to read and look at all having to do with starting the Oregon trail, during the trip, and what people did once they got to Oregon. You can pack your own wagon and make your own candles. The staff was friendly and very knowledgeable. They will give you a tour or leave you alone if you want to wander and read. The gift store has good snacks and their restrooms are clean. I liked that there are lots of other things in this area to do and see. Ask the gift store and they will give you a map.
So much history in such a beautiful place
I only spent about 30 minutes here, but I really liked it. I learned more about the trails and tribulations of the Oregon Trail and the folks who traveled it then I knew there was to learn. And standing under the trees at the historic park, having just seen the water falls by the old paper mill, and reading about the lives of the people who settled there, I felt as if I was there too.
But much safer.
Great outside tour, lots of wonderful information. Our daughter got to take part in reinacting portions of the Oregon trail which captivated her for an hour, even at 8 years old. She even got to make and eat butter during the tour, which she still talks about. Just plan for enough time to see and do it all.
Wonderful for learning oregon history and great place for a picnic or dog walk.
Love the park music had issues, looking forward to some Blues on the 25th.
Thanks place was a lot of fun. Went on my 10yr old daughter field trip. Fun to take your kids. It's only a couple hours long. It's partially outside, so if it's cold outside dress appropriately.
Went for the Oregon City National Night Out, and suffice to say I was enamored by the decor. The park itself is smaller than some parks I've seen, but it has lots of open space. The trails provide great informational guides and tools to remind you of the parks namesake. I would've liked to have seen more trash/recycling bins, and more things to entertain the children.
I learned a lot about the history of the area.
Can't say much more than I was pleasantly surprised by how well the museum and it's grounds were kept. Having lived in Oregon for 10 years and traveling back yearly for the past 25 years to visit family I had never taken time to visit is look back into the history of Oregon. While I may not agree with some of Oregon's "new" culture I was impressed with this museum. Great and very personable interpreter added tremendously to our visit. While in Oregon City be sure to visit this museum.
Beautiful park and very educational.
The interpretive center is great- historically accurate and relevant, they include actual artifacts and photographs, great illustrations, and tie in the local history so well- the movie is kind of cheesy but the hologram thing was super cool. Very well organized, well cared for, thorough, and lots of interactive features. Well done!
I went between Christmas and New Year's and they said they weren't doing tours that day because they had a field trip in; I was there 2.5 hours and never seen a field trip. That were super helpful with lessons and triaging my son's cough.
If you're a local, become a tourist in your own city. And if you're not local you can learn so much by stopping in. This is a great place to educate yourself on the longest emigration in America, the horrors and successes on the trails and the general history of Oregon. Take your kids! They'll love it.
A good place for kids or school children.
It's a great & fun place to go to! I enjoy that area!
Plan about 2 hours here. The site is an interactive museum with tons of information and the opportunity to experience activities ...of tje time such as candle dipping. There was a great movie part way through and very knowledgeable staff!
Gotta love this place. Besides the awesome history and the people that insure we remember it, there are always great family friendly events here during the summer. Thank you Oregon City, and everyone else, that make this one of our favorite local attractions!
Very good exhibit covering the Oregon Trail. Can get busy with field trips but you can find a quieter time. Plan a two hour visit if you like to read and look at everything. Maybe longer if you want to do all the hands on activities that they often offer. Make a day out of it and visit other places in Oregon City area.
It was fun for me to see the end of the famous trail. The guides were very friendly and knowledgeable. I learned many new facts about the start of Oregon, how long the trail was used, and the various laws that helped shape a future.
The volunteers/employees love their jobs and love history. It's really amazing to visit a museum and spend an hour talking to an employee there who shares your same fascination with history. The museum is worth the visit!
Great setting to learn about the pioneers that settled the wild Oregon Territory. Excellent Shop with a wide variety of memorabilia as well as a outstanding series of Museum features. Educational treat for the whole family, plan to spend the whole day. Lots of local excellent Oregon City restaurants nearby.
Awesome concerts happen here
Pretty decent facilities & worth stopping at. Info center has lots of maps, pamphlets for all sorts of regional activities/points of interest and a few trinkets for sale as mementos. Tickets for the interpretive center available in the visitor's center as well.
Fun place to go! We were able to see displays and artifacts from the Oregon trail. We dressed up in period time & took pictures in front of a wagon, made candles & watched a good film with readings from trail journals.
We took the tour, and my kids LOVED IT! They were engaged the whole time, and the tour guide had a ton of activities for the kids (and adults) to participate in along the way.
The pandemic has got this place closed right now. The empty parking lot has turned out to be a good place to eat my lunch. 😕 …
Great experience for a second grader, on a school - free day. Exhibits that are tailored to the level of the kids who show up. A movie that presented facts and stories taken from the diaries of people who actually came across on the Oregon Trail.
Went there for a class field trip. The tour guides did a very good job of keeping the kids engaged. Even I learned a few things on the trip. They have a very nice open picnic area for the kids to have lunch and then have recess. It was slightly annoying that they played a movie for the kids where one of the actors kept on pronouncing Oregon as Oregone instead of Origun. Other than that great trip.
Ok, but not so interesting as the center near Baker City. Nevertheless you will learn what the settlers had to endure on their half year long trail. I liked that you also get the facts versus the fiction, for example why they formed a circle every night. It was not to stand against the evil native Americans... What I also liked was the building itself. It looks like a several huge wagons.
We did the self paced tour and had a great time. Depending on if you want to explore every item you could spend hours milling around soaking up the historical information
Pretty neat. We didn't go through the museum (required a paid entrance fee) and it took us about 20 mins to walk around the property and snap photos.
A wonderful place with rich history to the U.S., such a sad tale and is beautifully told through this site. Took many great photos and had some touching moments when reading about what they had endured.
Lots of interaction and places to learn and explore. My kids, ages 10 and 4 enjoyed the exhibits and learning. Will definitely be back again!
This museum is VERY pricey for what rudimentary displays it contains. For $13 all you see is a 20-minute movie that tells you about the people who came over in the wagon trains, and the battle for the land with Britain for the territory and a few simple displays of life out west. There's some posters discussing life out west throughout. I think $5 or $6 would be adequate for this museum. It doesn't really represent the "true end of the Oregon trail," that is a few miles away, at Willamette Falls. Without being the actual location, I think $13 is way overpriced.
Wonderful experience!! Very good showing of the trials & tribulations as well as the museum showing so much of the wagons & goods. The little girls made candles!
The Docent engaged our Girl Scouts in lots of fun activities. She was quite knowledgeable about the relevant history of the Oregon Trail, and I had a great time, as did our scouts.
Started my travels in Upland, CA and ended them here...full circle fills good
Oregon history well done. Lots of free parking. Tranquil space. Clean bathrooms. Water fountains. Handicap accessible. Very family friendly.
Very cool place to learn about the wagon trails.
It was so interesting, fun facts.
Beautiful landscaping. Good spot to chill for a couple hours.
Was fascinating, nice staff. Wish there was more rotation of special interest exhibits. Candle making was fun for granddaughter.
Great for a rainy Oregon day! Went on Saturday just as they opened and had the place to ourselves. Lived here my whole life and still learned alot!
It was a lot of fun. Very interactive allowing kids to dress up, play games, make candles, etc. A definite stop for learning and fun!
I got there when they were closing. The indoor museum may be nicer. Probably a nice way to cap off a long trip.
Didn't go on trail. Neat houses
This is a nice museum with hands on activities for children. The documentary film uses personal accounts from diaries. In fact, the entire museum is based on personal accounts from the people who traveled the trail.
Lived in Oregon all my life and this is the first time that I have visited the end of the Oregon trail.. It's pretty awesome so if you are like me and have never been it's a must see.
This place rocks I went to a concert there with my kids and it was really too much fun I hope to go again it was totally awesome
I liked the special event free day they had for 6.21.19 - 6.22.19 it was informational and told me the past history of the Oregon trail.
It's a decently entertaining venue but it is very small and few things to do besides the theater portion of the tour.
Great for children. Good for adults. As an adult, like the Oregon Historical Museum at the other end of town best
Lovely displays, great outdoor events
I only have been here for concerts in the park. Each time I attend, it is an enjoyable atmosphere.... Family friendly and fun.
Just saw We Three at concert in the park night and it was amazing! The food trucks were amazing as well! Thank you for the amazing adventure!
Free Summer concerts.
Across the street from Coaster's Crossing for great food, bev. & friendly service before, during or after the event.
Awesome place to learn history
Fascinating history. Well presented. Could be more clear that an admission is charged. At 10 bucks each, it's worth it, but I wouldn't do it again.
Great place to learn about american history and enjoy the process. Everyone enjoyed the time and enjoyed the process. School age children , parents and seniors.
This place is so much fun. A very interactive way to learn history. Awesome place for kids.
The exhibits are fun, interactive, interesting and well cared for. The staff are very knowledgeable and helpful.
Really cool place, unfortunately museum part was closed
Nice informative museum with some cool stuff to read and see. Well worth the price to walk through the giant wagons and see the origin and history of Oregon.
Having explored the sites and stops along the Trail from the midwest, its an amazing piece of history.
Lots of history here. It's off season so not so much going on which was disappointing. The computers weren't working that help to show the history which also was very disappointing. It was very expensive for what was going on.
A great historical place to visit! It really gives you the sense of what it was like for the first Oregonians. Staff is very friendly.
Great place to learn about history with fun exhibition areas. Well worth a stop off.
This was my third time visiting. My little sister had never been. It was wonderful watching her reaction.
Such a nice place! If you're passing thorugh here make sure to drop in for a fun and educating visit.
Took the stage at the End of the Trail. Played to a dog and it's caregiver for a moment. Brought a lunch, wrote a few lyrics. Found out that across the street the Amtrak line goes to Seattle or Eugene.
Nice displays and explanations of the Oregon trail with a focus on the people and their stories. The movie is well worth the watch.
Such beautiful grounds. So much history. Great place for family picnic. Pet friendly.
This place is very cool we attended and event here and look forward to doing so again.
Wonderful, lots of information and the people who work there REALLY like there jobs, you can tell from the start. Worthy of your time...
Friendly staff and very informative. You can make your own Oregon trail doll and candle, fun to make
We were at a two-day special event at End if the Oregon Trail. Enjoyed the amazing different arts.
Go here alot bunch to fly around wagon outlines.
Recovery rockfest was held at this location. Its a event for addicts in recovery, in memory of my best freinds Mike M.
Very interesting, great little shop and you can make your own little candle!
Great place to learn about the End Of The Oregon Trail. Nice history lesson and where to enjoy a hike.
Absolutely amazing. Lots if information. Very nice facility and very informative people.
Nice place, but it's closed
Really interesting place. There's a free coffee /tea K-cup stand for visitors
Great park, lots s of great exhibits.
And major important it was the end of the trail .
Interesting, rich history
Remarkably friendly staff service. Excellent display of artifacts. Good with kids.
Amazing place to learn about U.S. history. Plan on spending 3-4 hours here. Highly recommended.
The tour is fantastic if you have kids; very interactive.
Cool little museum it has accurate information on all of the signs and the movie they show is cool as well. If you want to buy something from the gift shop get some candy sticks which is basically a stick version of a candy cane in a whole variety of flavored.
It is very informative. The exibits are good and the price is right. I'm glad I went.
Had a wonderful time at an event that was held at this venue. Rockfest 2019 was amazing.
This is an awesome place to visit and they have fun events.
So much fun! Great place to bring your kiddos.
Wish they had a little more exhibits but everyone was awesome!
Very cool place, they do charge admission though.
Wonderful spot for the whole family! See the movie presentation-you won't be sorry. 🙂 …
Had a great time and it's a great way for kids to learn history hands on
Interesting museum, great architecture of the buildings and well done displays.
It was closed due to COVID-19 but there was education material outside to look at.
Had a lot of fun at the Festival of Arts, could take my time and look at everything.
A very fun place with some interaction. Very well done learning adventure.
The museum is really nice and there's many things to learn!
Awesome.
Good cross example of the settling of NW Territory. Needs more native sympathy or honored of their relocation
Very good museum that tells the story of the Oregon Trail. Free parking.
Great information about the Oregon Trail. Very informative and fun hands-on activities for all ages!
Great bands and food in the summer!! Good amount of parking too!
Very interesting, all about the history of the journey and once they reached Oregon City.
Fun, rainy day activity. The kids liked dipping candles and trying on the pioneer clothes.
The parking lot was delightful and made for a great place to turn around when I passed my destination
While this place is a great museum, the amount of criminal activity, including my own car being vandalized while visiting, is insane.
This was a fantastic use of the day!
Even my 11 year old daughter loved it!
great lil place to picnic and listen to tunes on a Thursday during summertime
Good 25 minute movie in the museum. The museum is very informative.
Heritage Days were amazing. Thank you for this wonderful event
Fun place to learn more about trail and area history. Plenty of parking.
We only did the free stuff, but found it most enjoyable.

Great museum and event center. Enjoyed the art fair
Nice place, however not a fully true response to the native Americans
Nice place, 13 dollars for adults ,interactive activities, educational
Great learning experience. The kids loved the costume area!
It was for the Oregon City Police Night Out, my son and I had a blast!
Could have been way better. The covered wagon outside was crumbling to pieces. I guess there isn't that much interest in the old ways
All of my best childhood memories hid in the gardens of this monumental wagon themed center.
Very educational and fun. Some indoor and outdoor areas.
Peaceful peaceful and quiet
Outstanding parking lot
Sweet spot to swing into if you're nearby. History is underrated.

Entertaining but it is what you make it!
