Reviews of Museum of Northern Arizona
This is a very large very clean museum. Kid friendly, quiet, very entertaining! There is also much to learn here from prehistoric to modern times. I would definitely go back again because I couldn't get through the whole thing the first time.
There is a lot of information to digest here so give yourself a couple of hours. If you like arts and crafts you will love the native American Indian artefacts and textiles. If you're interested in geology there is a whole section devoted to the Colorado plateau and the rock formations. If dinosaur history is more your bag you can dive into the section on historic eras and marvel at the remains found in the region
A large site in wooded area by a river. Very nice paved walk. Free large car park. Pay approx $10 to go in. Vary varied exhibits of are with all aspects of past life. Beautiful exhibits of Indian life and artefacts. Lots of very good fossil and explanation of there life and haabitat. Very high quality gift shop with a lot of original art work.
A visite to a site where a lot of passionate people have put it in place.
I actually went across the street and only viewed the McMillan Homestead from 1886. Wow, so much history from 1886, absolutely amazing. I wish I could have gone in, but it was closed. Beautiful old home!
Beautiful building and exhibits of the 4 corners area in addition to just northern AZ. Mainly focusing on the indigenous tribes of the area as well as the geological history, and dinosaurs. An amazing amount of artifacts in pottery, jewelry, handmade items, baskets, toys, etc. There was a docent who did a tour while we were there and that added a lot of extra tidbits of information and tied everything together. She was very friendly and enthusiastic. $15 for adults, I think children and seniors were less, and free for native Americans. There are also some walking trails outside the museum with some informational signs.
This was an excellent museum to teach and explain about the various Native American people in Arizona, Utah and Colorado. The exhibits were very good and vast array of artifacts, art work and pottery was astounding. Well laid out and delightful experience. Thank you for also being such gracious hosts.
Amazing museum! We went through it in an hour before closing, but I think 2 hours would be ideal, if not more to read everything. Highly recommend going when you're in the region!
Visited and watched The Pueblo of Acoma Enchantment Dancers perform the Buffalo 🐃 Dance..
Walked around museum for another 2-3 hrs. Displays are well thought out and put together..
Great variety of souveniers/gifts at the Gift Shop.. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
A must if you love history, Native American culture, or attending an event...
One of the best museums of Southwest Native American cultures I have seen. Tons of floor space! Displays spanning from Paleo-americans to present day. Many displays of craft work, several displays cultural comparisons between Hopi, Zuni, Navajo, Apache, and several other lesser known (smaller?) tribes. You could easily spend the whole afternoon here and even then may not be able to see everything. Also includes an exhibit of fossils and history from the Cretaceous period.
I found a beautiful bronze artwork tucked away in a corner titled "Sockdolager" by Clyde Ross Morgan depicting Powell's expedition on the Colorado river. While not technically SW native American art, the execution of the piece is beautiful to behold.
This is a very well thought out and beautiful museum. The pottery of the native peoples of the Colorado plateau are especially brilliant.
Great museum with a plethora of information and exhibits regarding the Colorado plateau and its indigenous community and surroundings! Completely worth the price of admission! There’s even a nice courtyard and small trail through the forest with a stream that we unfortunately couldn’t take due to bad weather. We even ran into @iambearsun here! 5/5 🌟
I went on an hour long tour and it was amazing!! I loved how much the guide was so enthusiastic about everything. You could tell she's been learning this stuff for a very long time and she loves it. She was even wearing Navajo jewelry. She also really cared about how the native American tribes wanted to be portrayed. The museum has lots of cool stuff to show and it's even better to walk through it all with the guide to really understand what you're looking at and get information that isn't shown on the exhibits. This place is so beautiful too! It looks amazing for a wedding venue
Not a huge museum but excellent. In particular the first two rooms which cover the development of human ways of life in the area and a fabulous room where Native American tribes share their histories in their own words, along with astonishingly beautiful crafts illustrating their cultures. The shop is well stocked with gorgeous crafts made by Native Americans, not cheap, but of a very high standard and a change from the usual tat so commonly found elsewhere. We spent about and hour and a half here which was all the time we had but the museum deserved longer.
Was a bit overwhelmed with how extensive and highly curated their collection is. Well worth an extended visit.
Just to note: our entry was free because we had passes. This museum has a wonderful, comprehensive overview of the Colorado Plateau, the peoples, the geology, the art. It's a lot of information and beautifully presented.
This is an amazing place to learn the history of Northern Arizona from the time of dinosaurs, where bones and fossils were found in the area by archeologists to the Native artifacts discovered over centuries from the Navajo, the Pai and Hopi tribes that cultivated, hunted and established land and lives there. Beautiful displays over the years through discovered clothing, weapons, pottery, food, etc to present day Native artists who display artwork, clothing, jewelry and pottery. A definite must see!
I love this museum! Over the years it has grown to be a very informative and interesting museum. Its set up well and the employees are wonderful and very helpful! Take the time to really look at the amazing historic and prehistoric pieces they have. The information on the Native Americans from this area is superb! There is a path on the outside of the museum to walk. This museum is wheelchair friendly and the restrooms are open. Plan on spending at least 1 &1/2 hours here. The Giftshop is full of amazing items! During Covid please remember you will need to pre-purchase your tickets online.
Awesome museum. Interesting exhibits of native American lottery and vertebrate paleontolgy. Nice historic building and the grounds have nice trails to explore.
This museum seemed anticlimactic at first, but I was QUICKLY blown away. The expansive space is filled with incredible history that adults and children alike can both enjoy. There was room after room of artifacts, art, activities, and information. I definitely recommend a stop in!
Beautiful setting with nicely defined history of indigenous peoples of the Colorado plateau. I liked how it was laid out so you could really observe the timeline and migrations. Modern pieces and smaller rooms of dinosaurs from the area were a bonus!
Also, the gift shop is amazing!!
Great staff and doing a very good job of social distancing and sanitation. Wonderful place!!
Amazing experience! Would definitely visit again. Loads to see and learn about. The entire museum can seen in a couple hours. We were in Phoenix and it was a very scenic drive to the museum. The museum also has a trail. I do recommend long pants, tennis, and bug spray. Trail is not good for strollers so bring your baby carriers.
Plenty of information and lots to see. Wonderful exhibits and beautiful Native American jewelry displays. Store is packed with many keepsakes i wanted to purchase and store attendant helpful and welcoming . Atmosphere is calming and quiet. Only disheartening part was upon arrival, the reception was not as friendly. We weren’t greeted and when initiating a friendly “hello” we were given a stern look and told the cost of admission. Other than that, the museum itself is very wonderful and informative.
Very nice and educational museum, the kids really likening and the shopping store have a lot of beautiful local made jewelry.
Cute little museum. Doesn't take long to see everything. Which was perfect for the kiddies.
They had a little kids section with board games, coloring pages, audio visual learning, and a puppet show you all related to the theme being taught.
Nice stop in Flagstaff if you are looking for something to do with the kids.
Small museum filled with an abundance of history. I hope that they repaired the water damage to the Star Wars exhibit and reopened it. I do feel that their roadside signage should have indicated it was temporarily closed instead of being told that after we checked in.
Had a great visit to this Northern Arizona gem. Each time I've been there the exhibits are very well done with changes that bring you back.
I was really amazed by many of the exhibits in the museum. The archeological section had some particularly great sections. The amount of pottery and jewelry on display is more than you would expect with such a physically small museum. The exhibit about star wars it's native american connection was a great way to end such a fun museum. Unlike most gift shops, this one has no junk, but is full of local art, books, and jewelry. If you are in the area this museum us worth a look.
The museum is a great place to learn about the past as well as to see wonderful works of art of artists both past and present
Excellent place! I loved the Navajo Star Wars exhibit. Definitely a must see if you're in Flag.
We made a quick stop to this quiet little museum. It sleek and modern inside and displays items from various Native tribes: toys, jewelry, weaving. There are listening stations so visitors van hear the information in the original language. We loved their Star Wars art display and watched a short video of translating the movies into Navajo, really cool.
The place is open until 5 p.m, it takes long time to read the description of each of the items displayed since they have a huge collection
I would recommend to reach the museum by at least 3.30 p.m to make the visit meaningful.
Always love it here. The exhibits are awesome, the nature trail beautiful in the pines. Great way to spend a couple hours, and a great way to learn about the Colorado plateau.
This museum is a true gem! We were more than delighted with the helpfulness of the staff and the setting. The museum held more information than we could digest in the 2 hours we were there. And the exhibits we're gorgeous.
Beautiful & informative museum about the cultures, people, dinosaurs, history of the Colorado Plateau. Highly recommended.
Great hidden gem museum. Tons of history and artifacts about the area, wonderful childs zone, and even a Navajo Star Wars area!
I went for the Native American exhibits and I wasn't disappointed. Very thorough explanations and exhibits. I highly recommend this museum.
Only giving it 4 stars because although there were some things for the kids to do, it really didn't keep their attention so we weren't able to enjoy the museum. There was a lot of stuff to look at I'm sure without kids would be better.
A beautiful building with a great collection of artifacts. Also a good amount of modern art. The only thing to improve the attitude of the lady at the ticket desk, dismissive and unfriendly.
Gorgeous museum. Great architecture. Loved the native American section.
Very well done museum! Many interesting historical items and explanations of the area. Highly recommended.
Three adults & a toddler were intrigued with the beautiful displays during our 3 hour visit. It was $15 for each adult. We enjoyed learning about Northern AZ early people then looking around the gift shop. The outdoor nature trail looked fun, but it was too rocky for a stroller.
Very nice staff, gift store, lots if great history.
During our visit the Native American Heritage festival was ongoing, the venders and Heritage participants were wonderful. Excellent display of Native American History and artifacts. A really must see.
Was so informative and so impressive learning about all the different peoples and what made them unique. It was also a very sad realization all that was lost culturally and human lives wise. Thank you!
Amazing artifacts and insights to what life was like on the Colorado Plateau back when. Special thanks to all the people whom made this place possible and to those who continue to support it and make it even better.
I returned recently for the Glenn Canyon photography and Baje Whitethorne art exhibits, which I really enjoyed. The People's of the Colorado Plateau permanent exhibit has been updated and greatly improved since my last visit.
Nice setup here we spent about an hour and a half walking around looking at native art and history. Always nice to learn more about how old the land is as well.
Took a free guided tour of Geology w Mr.Ken that was absolutely amazing. He offers one for Archaeology that we so wished we had been able to attend. The guided tour alone was worth the price of admission. There is so much to see. You won't be disappointed.
Great museum. Has a good geology section plus lots of indigenous history that's presented the right way. The hall with the history of all the area nations was worth the price of admission by itself. We also enjoyed the Baje Whitethorne Sr. exhibit.
My 9 year old went with school and she said it was really fun. She gave it five stars
Great exhibits, friendly staff, and a lovely educational museum of the area.
I love coming to this place. My wife and I visited before we had kids, so it was a real enjoyment to share in the knowledge and beauty this place has to offer.
Extensive collection of Native pots and jewelry. Great info on geology of the area. Nice hiking trail out back. No military discounts. Plan to spend 90 minutes or more.
I took my first grade class here, and the docents were knowledgeable, patient, and kind. The displays are so interesting and well curated!
Colorado plateaus finest. Check out some of the festivals! Most recently went for an exhibit looking at native perspectives in Star Wars.
Not a about Flagstaff per se, great geological maps and native American artifacts and contemporary arts and culture.
Great museum! 2 dinosaur skeletons, geology that you can touch, STELLAR Native American pottery exhibit, and really cool tribal cultural differences exhibit including language samples. Plus the nature trail is cute! Use your NARM reciprocal membership for free entry!
This is a wonderful mix of Northern Arizona history. There's a beautiful exhibit of the Native Peoples of the Colorado Plataeu that was created using stories from area tribes.
Fantastic museum! It covers natural history, ancient history, and modern cultural history related to northern Arizona. Even with the breadth of topics, they go into a lot of detail about each one. Absolutely deserves repeat visits. I highly recommend this museum.
The density of information contained in this place is incredible. Could easily come back again and again and learn something new.
Informational about geology and the indigenous populations. We enjoyed it.
Great museum, lots to read and learn about. Great place to visit in Flagstaff
The out side was amazing with the river and the nice places to walk around. We did not have a reservation so we did not go inside .
The place as we had seen was beautiful
An absolutely beautiful and well done museum located on wooded acerage.
I loved learning about the tribes and traditions of Northern Arizona. It was very well put together, and I loved the beautiful art!
Beautiful pottery collection, 2 full dinosaur fossils! And an overview of the art from the Northern AZ/New Mexico indigenous peoples. So much history and the staff is wonderful.
We had a great time with and and just knowing our family that has past were there spending the day with us.
The music was out standing they played our family's favorite songs going again tomorrow
Lots of interesting exhibits about prehistoric and early settlements around the Colorado Plateau. Well laid out and organized. We have a membership in the North American Reciprocal Museum Association, so we got in free, but the regular admission is $15.
Rainy Sunday afternoon visit. Beautiful baskets, amazing ancient pottery, jewelery. Some interactive children exhibits.
This museum has extremely informative and interesting permanent exhibits on local history, geology, and culture, as well as frequent special exhibits, including many featuring local artists. Any time I visit for a temporary exhibit, I take in the permanent ones again and am always fascinated in rekindling my interest in the area. The gift shops are well stocked with interesting and beautiful items to buy. There there two sets of bathrooms for convenience. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I look forward to visiting every time.
Experienced an adventure through time. Brilliantly organized, informative, and unique. A reasonable price to see a large collection of Native American History, Artifacts, and explanation of Culture.
Great collection of items. Check out the dinosaurs! Happy they were open on a Monday. Great gift shop.
Great exhibit! Kids friendly
Great 1st stop before you start to explore the area. It gives you a good deal of information about what you will be seeing. Especially American Indian info.
Excellent museum on local Anaszi sites and artifacts and information. Good bookstore and gift shop. Nice geology section too.
Small "museum" with seemingly more than half of the building devoted to gift shops selling overpriced jewelry and art. A couple of dinosaur displays, a kid's room off to the side (only one as far as I could tell) that focused on ants(?) Not sure what that was about, but our daughter had fun there and no other kids were there, so she had the room to herself. I got the impression the museum isn't very kid friendly.
Good displays on Native cultures. Would have been nice to see a few Natives working there to add more authenticity to the otherwise only white staff. Why no Native guide to answer questions on the Native displays?
We spent about 90 minutes here, including walking around the outside grounds a bit. Had planned to go on the nature trail near the museum, but the weather didn't cooperate with us today! $12 admission per adult and our 3-year old was free. Price is decent I guess for 90 minutes. Our daughter spent 30 minutes in the aforementioned "ant room" otherwise this would have been less than an hour for us, so I get why some reviews said it was overpriced.
One of the gift shops has pretty expensive breakable items (like small Native pottery) within hands reach of toddlers. Obviously, those should be out of reach of little ones, especially since you stuck the shop right in the middle of the "museum." I didn't realize what it was until my daughter had run in there.
No plans to go back here, but if you're in the area and need to kill an hour or so, it's okay. We'll probably drop by to try the nature trail or have a picnic on a future trip, but unless they change displays, I don't see touring inside again.
This place is a little gem. It has a wonderful collection of older and more modern Native American artifacts and art, displayed beautifully.
Love this museum! My son loves the dinosaur skeletons on display there. There is an informational tour led daily but we usually like to listen for a bit then do the self paced tour ourselves. They have the Navajo festival yearly and nature trails outside. You won't regret visiting this museum!
At first, we thought it would be a small museum from the outside, but once we were inside, we could not believe how large the museum was! The first couple of exhibits (i.e. Native American artifacts) were underwhelming because they definitely looked outdated. However, past that, the museum was really nice and there were a wide variety of exhibits that spanned a lot of art, history, geology, and archaeology. Overall, we really enjoyed walking around. The gift shop is very impressive with a wide variety of items - a lot of things are very expensive though.
Wonderful place to learn the geology of the area along with the history, and culture of the native peoples to the Northern Arizona and Colorado plateau. If you are visiting the area make time to stop by. I don't know how often they offer them, but we lucked up on a guided tour through the geology showcase (which was included in the already fair priced admissions!) I guarantee it'll increase your appreciate of the area and the incredible views you'll see. There's a nice, easy grade hiking trail next to the museum as well, that was a nice experience.
Very educational and interesting. A good diversity of information on the Indian tribes. Also, great background on the earth's and region's development since early time.
Very disappointed. We went hoping to learn about Northern AZ but ended up being about the different native Americans and there culture. I enjoy learning about native Americans but was looking for more history than just native Americans. They need to give this place a new name.
Came here for a class project and was pleasantly surprised at how nice the exhibits were. I just love the new intro to -I believe- the 3rd exhibit on the map with the different Native American speakers welcoming visitors in their own language. Looking forward to bringing my mom when she visits this month!
I’ve been to a lot of museums in my life and this is one of the best medium sized museums I’ve seen. The ethnology room done in partnership with Indigenous peoples actually had me blinking back tears. If you’re on the fence about visiting, do it. I also really enjoyed the Force is with our People exhibit that was on when I went. It almost had me in tears again, which is not something I thought I’d say about Star Wars as much as I love it! Amazing.
Really friendly staff and super cool exhibits. The native people's exhibit was really interesting and the combination of art, geology, and anthropology was well done. I thought the price was reasonable for, especially the student fare.
Don? I hope I got this name right was a great tour guide! I really enjoyed this museum and learning about the Native American Tribes.
A must, this place is displayed so well.Room after room of fantastic relics and history.I enjoyed this more then any museum I've been in.Fantastic, enjoy enjoy enjoy
Great museum with focus on Native American history, beliefs, arts, heritage. Wonderful displays and historical background.
I love this place and its surroundings.has like a magical feeling sorta like sadona had before it turned into a turorist trap..I could spend alot of time here exploring and feeling that special feeling...
It was amazing. Native Americans had kiosks set up selling their arts and crafts.
Cool place and not expensive. Lots of cool native culture and art. Definitely worth a visit if you are up this way. Star wars stuff was amazing as well, makes me want to see the Navajo translated version.
Good exhibits but the flow felt a little weird for walking through chronologically - quite a bit of doubling back. It’s a very spread-out space though, and well maintained, with exhibits taking you through the broad geologic and societal histories of the area.
The push of Europeans into the area isn’t covered much, instead focusing on the peoples native to the area and what their cultures both looked and look like. This is good, as we only really learn the white version of it in schools around the country/world, and it remains more approachable for more ages of visitors who may not have the stomach for the atrocities committed in the name of manifest destiny.
Museum was full of interesting exhibits about the geology and the native history of the area. Plenty of hands on exhibits too, as well as pottery and some art. As a European visitor to the USA, and with a limited knowledge of native Americans, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Very well kept and full of knowledge and artifacts of native Americans that called the Colorado Plateau home before Flagstaff was around. History discusses formation of the grand canyon, the movement of the continents all the way up to native americans before western influences through to today.
So much history and friendly staff. Clean, safe for COVID and worth the small entrance donation.
Lots of information on the native nations. Exhibits are clear and intriguing. Learned a lot about all aspects of the Colorado plateau. Neautiful setting and somewhat close to downtown. Privately developed and managed by a foundation
Great museum with heavy emphasis on the Native American culture of the Northern Arizona. Exhibits are very well presented and educational. Allocate about two hours to see the museum. Overall well worth stopping here for a unique museum experience.
The admission prices are reasonable. I went on a day when indigenous people were only $8, so I saved some money. The art is cool, they host native vendors which is also cool. I would've liked to see more indigenous employees though. The only complain I have was the parking. We went on a day the Hopi Festival was going on so that might've been a reason it was so full. They had a shuttle from a lot across the way but it was full as well and you kind of just had to make your own parking spot.
Really a great museum. Only issue is that handicap parking is in the back - it's a long walk around the building to get to the entrance.
The building and grounds are beautiful, and blend harmoniously with the surroundings. The exhibits are well shown, interesting, and highlight the history, beauty, and culture of Northern Arizona. I went for their "Thirsty Thursday" event held during the summer. The featured artists were a Flagstaff group called The Dark Horse Trio. If all of the entertainers are this great I will make this a weekly habit.
This museum is wonderful! So much to see and laid out so well! I was so humbled to see everything there, and was in awe the entire time.
Nice small museum 😉. I loved the art and jewelry that was displayed. The gift shop had nice things, too. The staff was nice and there's also a trail you can hike outside. Nice visit. …
This was an excellent museum for anyone wishing to learn more about the ancient and current tribes inhabiting the 4 corners area. Excellent exhibits, well documented displays and very knowlegeable staff.
GREAT exhibits. Very informative beautifully presented
This museum was just middleground. Its clear that some of the more permanent exhibits are dated: interactive pieces are over worn, broken, or the tech is decidedly obsolete. Still, lots of beautiful history, arts and culture to see and take in, even if its a bit disjointed. Its worth a look.
I had not been here for many years. Still a great regional museum with a friendly "badger" maintaining the entrance. I was impressed by the collection and layout. The Begay rug exhibit was beautiful, the geology archaeology, and Native American halls were well done. The building itself is a treasure.
What a wonderful find up in Flagstaff, AZ!. We came upon this museum by accident. It was a wonderful way to spend the afternoon. Unfortunately, I didn't get the front desk lady's name but she was wonderful. She explained the layout of the museum and made our visit and experience exceptional. The displays are great and educational. Just a great experience.
This is an anchor in the Northern Arizona cultural anthropology scene. It is a great all-around museum touching on geological, cultural, and environmental histories of the region. They host every summer (July?) a tribal fair exhibiting Hopi (and Navajo?) arts, dance, and food. It is a good place for all ages, with the exhibits surprisingly scaked for different learning levels and some special items for little ones. The classic attractions are the fossil skeletons of a giant sloth and other animals, and a reconstructed kiva or Hopi structure. There's also a nice little canyon that boasts a small nature loop.
The customer service was amazing. The museum itself is smaller than most museums, but the content can still keep you busy for a while. If you're a student then consider bringing your school id for a discount.
One of the very best museums we've visited. Everything is well laid out, not random displays. Little in the way of 'tech' displays. Lots of great original material. We've been a number of times. Cannot find a better place to learn and enjoy.
Disclaimer- I work here. Its a great medium- sized museum covering a wide range of topics from geology to culture. Two great museum shops offer items to continue learning or purchase your own art or jewerly piece. But really it's a museum you can handle in a couple of hours, yet still find something new on the next trip.
Cool Star Wars exhibit connecting the native Americans art to pop culture. Very enlightening
Top-notch jewel of a regional museum just on the edge of town. Not too big, but collection & displays on-par with any major museum in the country. Rotating art gallery. Excellent book store. Single best selection in Flagstaff for high-quality regional ceramics, jewelry, Hopi kachinas & Navajo rugs.
Absolutely fantastic and wonderful place to take families. For Parents that live in Phoenix, their summer camps make a great family vacation. Drop the kids off at the Museum for a well organized, fun and educational camp; then Mom and Dad can go off to enjoy some alone time. Highly recommend!
Absolutely amazing! My favorite room was the dinosaur exhibit spent about 2 and half hours there reading everything about the jewelry and pottery. Highly recommend this to anyone for us visiting!!!!
We always stop here when passing through Flagstaff for both the informative and always changing museum exhibits, and the carefully curated selections of Native American crafts in their gift shop. Always a pleasure and have picked up baskets and jewelry here over the years.
We have visited for many years and is always exciting to be here!!
The staff were very kind and helpful. Our girls did a scavenger hunt and we're rewarded and the art and history of the native cultures in the museum are amazing.
This museum is fantastic! I always recommend people visit. I've been several times, but today I went to Hopi fest. I can't believe it took me so long to make it, I had a great time!
Cool little museum. We especially enjoyed the local art exhibits
Really well done museum, very quiet and clean. A lot of beautiful examples of native American pottery and well presented exhibits.
Nicely curated museum with a mix of pottery, paintings, and other artifacts. The dinosaur exhibits was smaller than expected, but was a nice experience overall.
We happened to visit this museum, because we had free time and we saw the sign. Glad we visited. This is a fantastic museum. We spent 1.5 hours here. The staff was friendly and anxious to impart their knowledge. I highly recommend. It was definitely worth $10.
Very interesting all about the Indians .Things they made out of really nothing. Very smart people.
Much history accrues to this museum and there is much to be learned about the peoples of the high desert, their culture, and their way of life. The museum shop is very good place to splurge on silver jewelry not normally seen in shops.
This is a lovely museum with so much to see.And when we visited the little cloud dancers were performing..And there was a craft fair going on with beautiful handcrafted jewelry and pottery etc for sale.
Had a great time on Saturday, but was very hot!
Could not stay for performance ...was too hot in the sun with no tent.
Have tickets for the next two weekends
If you are interested in Native American culture, this place is a must see. The museum has a fabulous collection of artifacts and historical displays relevant to life on the Colorado Plateu and geology of the area.
Great museum with a focus on the native peoples of the four corners region. Lovely selection of jewelry and indian arts in the gift shop too!
Great collection, of American Indian craft and art. Wonderful oral history and shows the diversity of various tribes from their point of view as well as the history of the animal life of the region.
Excellent museum. Loved learning about the northern Indian tribes. Intriguing exhibit about The Force is With Our People, Navajos redoing the some of the Star Wars in Navajo.
A lot of Indian artifacts very interesting a little pricey for a museum. Watch your step when coming down the stairs outside I almost went over the side into a ravine....
Always changing, always entertaining and educational. Wonderful staff and volunteers. Visit the museum, and be glad you did. Thirsty-Thursdays are pretty great as well.
Great little trails around the museum. Did not go into museum as the cost was higher than we could afford ($12 a person, I believe...). Nice park nearby. Beautiful area.
Beautiful and able to learn new things
A great place to see Colorado plateau native Americans art, lifestyle, etc. Employees were very pleasant. We had to make an appointment to visit, we arrived a bit early, but no trouble starting our walk early.
Definitely worth going to if you want to learn a bit more about the Colorado Plateau. I brought my family here when visiting and we spent about two hours. I would have stayed more, as I read about everything.
Museum is decent sized. The outside garden was dead and needed to be cleaned. The gift shop was lovely. Great artifacts. Cute place for the kids
Went here for my boyfriend’s and I first date every on was super sweet and the displays are very clean
Wow worth the visit so much to see.
Cool museum in Flagstaff! We liked the dinosaur fossils and Native American artwork. There's a kid room with puppets and coloring and you're allowed to touch lot of the items in the museum!
Awesome museum to learn about the Colorado Plateau. The festivals are very cool to would recommend the Zuni or Dia de los Muertos.
Wonderful artifacts, relics, and historical data collected over time from Native American cultures who lived in the areas that make up Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Utah since around 100 AD.
Super awesome museum. Learned a lot! The shop has neat things. The people are kind.
A bit pricey for such a small museum, but the stuff they do have is pretty amazing. I will definitely be back.
Smallish museum but great exhibits, interactive for kids, and the shop is good. My husband and I really enjoyed it, as well as our 10 year old grandson.
Great museum with lots of unexpected things to see and try out. I visited the gift shop where I bought some beautiful handcrafted earrings. The vendors were just lovely.
Quite smaller than I anticipated it being, with a large emphasis placed on the native peoples of northern AZ and the four corners region. Beautiful jewelry and pottery were on display, but otherwise there’s not a lot to keep you here for more than an hour or so.
We got held hostage at the front desk for what seemed to be forever. Almost took longer to hear her tell us about the museum than to see it for ourselves. And there’s not just one gift shop, but two of them, the second being situated in between exhibits so you have to pass through it. Boo.
The value proposition for this museum dwindles significantly if you’ve got more than a few people above the age of ten. But it’s a beautiful building, and the people here are supremely passionate about it.
Impressive, well curated display of natural history, geology and archeology. Beautiful pottery, and the right amount of information.
We have been members of MNA for many years. We attended the members opening for the Zuni show. Wonderful pieces in pottery, silver , textiles and art. We did make s couple of purchases. Only regret was not a lot of attendees.
Part natural history, part cultural history, part art history, all enchanting!
It is a fabulous place that introduces one to the history and culture and artistry of the Arizona tribes. As well as walks one thru the evolution of climate changes, animal life and geology of the area. Not to be missed.
Honestly there's not a lot to see here. 10% of the museum is archaeology, 10% of the museum is geology, 5% ants, 5% artwork, and 70% native American culture and history. Not what I was expecting, and the layout isn't very interesting.
Go through the history of the Colorado Plateau and learn about the native peoples of this region in their own words. Fantastic displays of local art, pottery and jewelry as well.
It was a snowy afternoon we visited. So much to see that 2 hours was too short. Gentleman in book shop knowledgeable. He explained ATLATI & METATES to me. Have to come back to see more of their wonderful exhibits and new Ethnology Lockett Gallery.
A great place for the entire family. A superb collection of artifacts. Well laid out, signage is excellent and it is handicap accessible. Overall a good experience.
It was a very impressive museum a lot to see and very interesting and informative. Definitely worth the trip, especially if you are going to the Grand Canyon.
The Ancient tribal Artifacts where amazing along with the paintings by women who Dedicated their lives to learning and documenting the life of the people of the area. It’s worth seeing.
Just lovely. Not big in space but full of artifacts and historical narratives.
What a wonderful museum! Learned a lot about geology, archeology and the most treasured heritage of native Americans, with my two girls. Well done!
I do love museums me and my mom went to see Museum if Northern Arizona what a great museum for the whole family to enjoy admission is $12.00 (18+) Adults, $8.00 ages (10-17)years old, $10.00 Seniors, 10% for Military and vets.. It is a big museum you can take a walking tours or you can do it yourself tours using an app.. Or you can look arround you can spend hour and hours arround the exhibits.. They also have an art exhibit as well.. They also have alot of Native American art and pottery as well, try it out great fun for the whole family..
Attended a beautiful lecture about Native American history in the area, and an amazing exhibit involving Star Wars and Native American heritage. Definitely a recommended location to visit in Flagstaff.
We were there for Heritage Festival. We were set up as Artists.
Interresting display of the history of the Colorado Plateau. It's a good place to stretch legs and take in some local art. The staff were very nice to talk to.
Very interesting place. Takes you through culture and time. It's a must stop visit.
This is a great museum. There is a very good geology exhibit, and the Native American displays and items are excellent. I highly recommend it.
Decent museum with a large selection of geological exhibits and native art and artifacts. I would have appreciated more interactive exhibits and I would not recommend this museum for families with young children.
Wish we had more time. It taught us so much about the area and indian culture.
Interesting, it was fascinating to see all the various tribes of Native Americans who had or are still making Arizona their home. The various artifacts we're great.
We went there during the Zuni festival in May. There were lots of activities related to the festival. But the exhibits on the history of the people of the Colorado Plateau were the real treasure of this little museum.
Wow! Loved this small museum! Fortunately there was also a Native American craft and art festival too! Native dancing, flutes, historical talks.....Fun time.
Pleasantly surprised with this museum. Well designed informative exhibits. Completely enjoyed my time there.
A great way to learn about Native American cultures in the area, well worth the visit
Enjoyed this place. Brought my 17th month old and was surprised to find a little kids section where he could play with some blocks and books and get some energy out. Also a beautiful area to walk outside.
Bit expensive, but quality museum with a lot of information in several different fields. Don't miss the smaller buildings to the back of the main one.
Went here on a quick getaway, and loved out. The tour was super informative and engaging. What I enjoyed was the marriage of art and science.
The museum of Northern Arizona provides a superb experience in anthropology, archeology and the great art of the Hopi, Zuni, Navahos and others.
There is a magnificent display of Hopi art and specifically, Nampayo and her magnificent pottery .
Attended the Navajo festival and liked the way you walk in and out of buildings; something we don't have too much of in the North east where cold and rainy weather is routine.
Ok the Star Wars The Force is With Our People exhibit was amazing. Love this place and even the history of the building which was designed by Mary Colter.

Excelent museum, there was a guide whom work was amazing. All related to the prehistoric, pre-Quaker history and contemporary Native history.
Not just baskets and pottery. This is a great perspective of the various tribes of region, their beliefs and different arts, and traits and a brief history of each.
Beautiful, educational, and emotionally moving exhibits. Well organized and presented.
