Reviews of The Durham Museum
Sharon Dodd
Extremely nice. Lots to see. Very well kept. Very interesting exhibits. The building itself is just a gem, Wonderful architecture. It was quiet, not many people around so we could take our time and see all the exhibits at our own pace. It was a wonderful afternoon, a couple of hours well spent. The history is just beautifully represented. It's laid out very efficiently, the trains are absolutely astounding. You can walk on them and sit in them. They are a treasure in and of themselves. The entire day was a big A+++....... Air conditioned, quiet, and the price was very reasonable for seniors. It was very reasonable for everybody actually. I highly recommend spending a few hours at the Durham museum, it's well worth the time and the money. Plenty of free parking, and again the building is just astounding, the outside architecture is also very beautiful...

Nice, smaller museum in a historic railroad building. Architecture and design are interesting. The special exhibits that are featured several times a year are always chosen so there's really something of interest for everyone. I recently enjoyed the Downton Abbey costume exhibit with a friend, and will return at a later date with my mom, know she'll love it. Enjoyed more than one really cool dinosaur exhibit over the years! They also have a nice gift shop with a wide variety of merchandise. Recommended!

This is a gem of a place in Omaha. The building itself is an exhibit and very well kept. This building is from 1930s and maintained really well. Most of the exhibits are original and has historical significance. The place is usually less crowded and one would have plenty of time to study and go through all the exhibits. The locomotives and train cars are very well kept and will make you think about how our ancestors lived their life.
Bonus: Although this place is in downtown, parking is completely free and it's right in front of the building.

We went for the Nelson Mandela Exhibit and it was amazing. Such a grand and beautiful building.
Right when you walk in you can see you are in what used to be a train station. There are statues all around to show the past (ex. a woman at the ticket counter, buying a ticket. A couple sitting on the bench saying goodbye after his military leave). It's like a bunch of ghosts of the past. It is so cool!
Even for a Saturday, there was no wait. You just pay at the front and then walk through the museum. There is an existing permanent exhibit that is pretty interesting. The current changing exhibit was absolutely amazing...the Nelson Mandela Exhibit. The history of his life mixed with world history was so interesting and moving.

Really nice. The displays are so interesting, the building itself is a gem. Not crowded, nicely laid out. Quiet......the terminal is awesome, a wonderful example of the grand architecture of the times. The entry fee is fair, a discount for seniors. I truly recommend the Durham museum for a few hours of interesting education.....

Haven’t been to The Durham Museum for several years. I decided to visit with a friend and was surprised by how many exhibits and artifacts were present. All of the train/tram “cars” were accessible to the public to enter, view, sit, etc. Not only does the building provide astonishing craftsmanship and history itself, but there are also plenty of things for individuals and families to enjoy!

It's always enjoyable to stroll through the Durham Western heritage museum. The old train station has been wonderfully maintained over the years. Walking into the building it's still amazes me how large the spaces are inside. They don't create building designs like this anymore. The museum exhibits are always fascinating. With exhibits that highlight the history of the time frame and exhibits that highlight the history of Nebraska in the Midwest area. I have full size training exhibits, historical exhibits filling us what Omaha was like in the early days. They also have interesting science exhibits that highlight medical treatment as well as various different industries. It's a fascinating museum and I encourage anyone to go there and spend at least a few hours. If you like my review and photos please click the thumbs up.

It’s a nice museum with the top floor an all original Art Deco train station! Very very nice. It’s $13 for adults and it’s worth it. Really cool with the trains you can walk through and a lot of hands on things. Our boys 17 & 20 had a good time.

The Durham History Museum is an amazing place to visit in Omaha! In addition to the ongoing exhibits, the museum hosts a variety of visiting exhibits, so check their website to see what upcoming events and/or displays may be of interest to you. The static displays cover a wide range of interests. I personally enjoy climbing in the cockpit of the steam engine and then starting at the other end of the train and going through the caboose and the various cars as they looked in the 1940s and 1950s (and perhaps longer) during the heyday of train travel. The talking statues give interesting lessons about the types of people that came and went through this former Union Station, especially the thousands of military personnel off to fight during WW2. Other exhibits cover various aspects of U.S. history, as well as some fascinating looks into Native American life. The architecture of the building itself is incredible and during the Christmas season, a gigantic Christmas tree adorns the main hall. There is a souvenir shop and a working diner/malt shoppe with a counter and stools along with tables and chairs. Please check their website for current admission pricing. Enjoy your visit!

The Durham is an absolutely beautiful museum. Walking in you see the most beautiful details on the ceiling, and the lights are absolutely beautiful. Basement has trains for the kiddos to go through. There’s also a lot of educational information there as well. Absolutely worth the visit.
We went during their noon years eve event for kiddos. There were a ton of people there, but it didn’t feel pushy or too tight. Put together very nicely.
Kendra Griffith
This place is amazing! It is so much bigger than it seems! You can easily spend the day in here. It has a lot of cool history and a whole train you get to walk through. Highly recommend seeing.
Kaden Swanson
Spectacular experience. Although a large portion of the building is undergoing renovations, a good portion of the museum was up and running. Many great memories were made here, and our group spent a good while studying Nebraska history. Highly recommended.
Julie Sensier
We thought the museum would've been bigger based on the size of the building. But, there was ample free parking. The train was wonderful. All the exhibits were really well put together.
Rebecca Rose
Have been several times, most recently for the Dressing the Abbey exhibit of costumes from Downton Abbey. I love the grand architecture of this period; similar stations in Kansas City and Los Angeles are still operational. It lends itself well to museum use here in Omaha, and their collections are very interesting.

The Durham Museum
The museum is dedicated to preserving and displaying the history of the United States western region. The museum is housed in Omaha's former Union Station.
This a very unique, educational place to visit
Well worth a visit

Go check out the Hall of Heros. It is a cool exhibit for all ages. It is really interactive for kids but has some cool facts for adults. It brought back some childhood memories. Highly recommend taking the family and spending an afternoon at the Durham.
Amy Leslie
Wow! I was pleasantly surprised by how great this museum is. The architecture is amazing and the exhibits are informative, fun, and extensive. I really enjoyed visiting and would highly recommend.
Alps
So much to see, and was able to explore freely and at our own pace. Granddaughter and I loved the Downton Abbey displays and enjoyed the Christmas decorations from around the world as well. I love trains and was excited to be able to go back in time and walk through a few of the old sleeper cars, and a trolley....lots of other exhibits, and we had a reasonably priced lunch there as well. Easy parking, clean restrooms, friendly staff.
Travis Eubanks
I didn’t realize how extensive the exhibits at the Durham Museum are. There is a ton of history on Omaha, the Union Pacific Railroad, Native American Peoples, and right now (March 2022-July 2022) there is an exhibit on Nelson Mandela that is easily worth the admission price. Plan on at a minimum 2 hour visit to simply walk through the museum, more if you like to read more signage or have an interest in the subjects on display. If you have kids, there are plenty of play areas and things to keep them occupied, and the vintage passenger train walkthrough is neat as well.
Deborah Jensen
I grew up coming to the Durham and riding the train to the east coast. It's so nice that they turned this beautiful building into a museum. There's something here for all ages to see and do. There's even a play area for children.
Ted Lapis
For me the most informative section was about the trials and tribulations of the Native Americans who had to sue for recognition as citizens of the USA (including the right to sue).
This museum is a paean to the Union Pacific Railroad, and their investors. We particularly enjoyed the magnificent ceilings!
Bry Galloway
The grand beauty and history of this fabulous museum can't be oversold or fully conveyed in photos or text. The exhibits are interesting, the staff knowledgeable and the architecture splendid. A great place for families, a fun date, or out of town guests with a historical curiosity.
Kimberly Anne
Excellent place. A little gem of the Midwest. It's beautiful and historic. The staff and volunteers are extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Can't wait to come back back my son. There were so many cool things to see here.
Brandon Keith
My grandson and myself had a nice time going thru the history of the Durham museum. Alot of history learning about railroad and city of omaha!@
Breanna McKamy
My kids always love coming to the Durham to see the trains and the other exhibits. We went and saw Santa here this year, that was the best experience we have had with Santa!
Letitia Sanchez
A lot of memories for me. As a child we attended UPRR days at this music. We loved playing on the passenger cars. This is an excellent visit down memory lane. The Nelson Mandela exhibit is educational and for all the children that were there, I hope they were required to doban assignment regarding what they took away from it.
Michael Miller
Ultra cool art deco building. Price is reasonable for all that you get to see. Well worth a visit. I spent about 2.5 hours here but I would guess most people would spend about 1.5 hours. Must-see!
Bethany Inge Photography
I photographed a beautiful wedding here. The elegance of the museum is evident throughout. Such a classy venue for weddings.
Cindy wheeler
Lots of things to do. There is a kid area for them to play, a few train cars to get in and explore and old trolley to get on. They have a huge train track set up with a few trains going. Old American and foreign currency. American homes from the past ie wash tubs and old time stove and fridge ect. Log home, old school house. There are a few skulls of animals and replica of a Buffalo. So many things to see you could spend hours there. They have photo archives. On the main floor they have a gift shop and an old time soda fountain.
Rachel Ewell
Wonderful historical museum in the heart of Omaha - incredible architecture, so much history and interesting exhibits. The kids love it and so do the adults. Highly recommend visiting.
Cloudy Cowboy
Classic Art Deco decor at every turn. This place is a snapshot in history that has been beautifully restored and become a great venue and museum. If your looking for a wedding venue, look no further then the Durham. The museum is top notch showcasing the history of Nebraska and the contributions made right here in Omaha.
Doug Lengel
Fun museum in the old Union Station passenger train terminal. History of Omaha and a transportation museum.
Justin Zeleski
This is an amazing train museum! My family comes here at least 2x a year. The museum is an old Union Station in the Art Deco style. The entry to the building is from the North and brings you into a huge vaulted room. Cool statues of people that look like their waiting for the train are displayed around the room. As you go further in and down stairs you can see the historic rail cars, omaha history exhibits (including a model of the World's Fair), traveling exhibits, recreations of western style building (mercantile shops, school house, etc).
The tickets are reasonably priced.l for what you get. If you like trains or cool building you should like this. I recommend the Durham to anyone local and definitely people coming through the city. It's not too far from I-80 which makes it a good indoor break from driving across the state. On the south side of the I-80 exit is the Zoo which is always in the top 3 best zoos in the county. A lot to see on just one exit.

The Durham Museum is an awesome Omaha Attraction. The building is in immaculate condition and very impressive. The displays are top notch. You can spend hours looking at all the information on Omaha's history. The Soda Fountain is the snack bar and has excellent food, desserts and beverages. The gift shop has a great assortment of items to purchase. The staff is very friendly and super helpful. If they don't know the answer to your question they will spend the time to look it up. It is definitely a stop you must do if you are in the Omaha area. Please consider rounding up your enterance fee to help them raise money to upgrade their lights to LED so that they can save money on their power bill.
Paris Henry
Very nice museum. All the staff that I have interacted with have been friendly and helpful. I like that the staff is so knowledgeable about the exhibits and really give you a lot of information about the museum. My kids loved looking through the trains and the new exhibit about The Abyss is awesome.
Pam Williams
I love this place. I try to go whenever I'm in town. The Hall of Heroes was pretty cool.
PLANTMAN IOWA
A very nice museum with changing exhibits. Its much larger than we thought it would be. You could easily spend a couple of hours here. You can go into old train cars to see what they looked like. The building itself is really cool. They also have a huge model train area. I highly recommend going here if you want to learn some history of omaha.
Christina Bloom
This was an awesome muesem. Well worth the visit. Stunning architecture, relative exhibits and various subjects to entertain all. I would love to visit again
Eric Nelson
The Durham Museum was magnificent in showing how people travelled in the old days. Very informative. A great place to visit if you're ever in Omaha, NE. It's kid friendly. The architecture is really unique and looks expensive, but isn't.
Bob Lehardy
Excellent train, and Omaha history museum. The building is art deco style, and is gorgeous, and it contains a great variety of information and exhibits about the rail system and the growth of Omaha over the years
Eric Hansen
It's a great museum for people with elementary aged kids. Plenty of activities for them and the traveling exhibits are generally good.
Timothy Balzen
It's a great museum for all ages. We always use the free library passes which has been awesome. There's new displays every few months. You can spend a few hours here pretty easily. They have activities for kids.
Ellen Chuda
My grandsons (ages 3 and 8) and I truly enjoyed our visit. We liked looking at the moving trains and walking through the old trains. The Heroes Exhibit was so neat and fun. Tons of hands-on activities.
Emily Weaver
Beautiful art deco building. The great hall was being renovated, so there was scaffolding everywhere. That was a bummer. The soda/ice cream shop was the highlight. Seriously the best shakes, floats, and sundaes 🍨. Overall, it was enjoyable. I think you should visit at least once.
Kari Sandman
The giant Christmas tree was beautiful! We visited to see the temporary Downton Abbey display. The costumes were beautiful. We really enjoyed seeing them. We had ice cream at the old fashioned soda fountain. It was yummy!
K Marty
Great museum! Our child enjoyed the trains and the hero’s exhibit. We enjoyed the history of Omaha and all the old photographs. Staff were friendly and helpful. Only thing we would suggest changing is having a separate line for ticket holders outside of the building especially for special events. We had bought tickets weeks ago but had to wait in line with everyone who hadn’t. It wasn’t until we were right inside the doors that there was a separate line for ticket holders. Even then, the line they directed us to was still selling tickets to people who had just walked up.
Dan Hunt
Super cool even if you aren't into trains! Check out the board of departure and arrival times, and take a moment to close your eyes and imagine (read: wonder) how Aunt Mildred and Uncle James ever got from Cincinnati to your parents house in Kansas City for Christmas on time! But man oh man wasn't that just a magnificent way to travel!
guetenmorgan
I personally love this place. Have been going for years with my family, but live taking my grandson to the exhibits and wrap up with some train time. Even crowded, there is space and time for all you need to see and do. If your in Omaha, check the schedule and make some time for a swing by. All ages will enjoy some part of the diverse offerings.
Jeff Badger
Excellent learning place for families. Train exhibition is quite nice.
Chara Wolf
I have found memories of this place. Before my grandpa died, we would go there and he would rave about the trains. They have this little miniature train set where you push the buttons and the tiny props move. He would sit there for hours talking about it. Love this place.
Ian Goehring
Hands down one of the best Museums I have been to years. ! If your a Jim Henson fan, then come and enjoy what they have to offer until the beginning of first week of January. Down stairs they also have more history of Omaha and things to learn that I did not even know. Grate place to bring family, children.. and friends. A grate day of activities wanting u to come back time and time again.
Trudy Fritzler
It was a neat place to visit and beautifully decorated for Christmas.
James Nahach
A very nice museum to visit when in the Omaha area. The train exhibits are its main draw since it was a former train depot but it also has nice exhibits about Nebraska.
You need to set aside at least 2-3 hours to really see everything.
They also have traveling exhibits and when we were there they had the Downton Abbey costume exhibit. I never watched the show but my wife did and she loved the exhibit.
Here are a few photos from the Downton Abbey exhibit.
This museum is a must if you are in the Omaha area.
James
So much to see and do. A lot about the history of the era, hard to imagine 10,000 people a day going through there back in WW2. Soda fountain place was nice. Was great going through the passenger train cars and exhibits. Definitely worth a stop.
Ann Blaker
We live here in Omaha. Hadn't been to Durham in years, though we once had a membership when our kids were younger. We wanted to see the Jim Henson exhibit and we're so glad we went. We saw the special exhibit and spent some time downstairs with the trains, but had to go because my son had to work. I wish we'd had more time to browse. I'd forgotten how wonderful it is here, especially at Christmas time.
Sarah Y
We were in town for a wedding and looking for something to do. Stumbled upon this museum! So neat! Lots of history about the Union Pacific. Reasonably priced. Highly recommend!
Dean Foster
This one of my very favorite museums!
The depot is gorgeous! love the nostalgia and atmosphere!
The trains are great!
If you love Onaha, it's a must see!
The top floor depot architecture is worth it alone!
The staff is friendly and helpful.
Michael Turnbull
Great side trip while at n town for NCAA Volleyball Final 4
Brittany Dorner
Always love going to the Durham!! Gorgeous building, great exhibits, and lots of interactive features. The only downside is their weekday hours - they close at 4pm, so having a 9-5 job you pretty much have to go on weekends.
Lesha Miner
My family got a membership, which gives early access to some events. We went to the Superhero exhibit and it was great! Tons of interactive things to do for kids. Highly recommend!
Ryndin Max
One of better museum in Omaha. Good for family visits with kids. For small one has special play area with Lego and other creative toys. Museum has a lot real historic objects like real steam train with rail carts, real luxury passengers carts andcbar-carts forcing distance trip. Special exhibition dedicated history of Omaha and mid west.
Brandy Ertzner
Fun place but beware the construction is ongoing inside and loud

A Diamond to Behold
I love trains and great train stations that can tell a story! My earliest memory of a train ride took place in elementary school at the Union Station in Kansas City, MO. Today, those memories returned as I made new ones at the Durham Museum, Omaha’s Union Station. Taking some time out from working on my current manuscript, I was not expecting to be there for four hours. It was not wasted time as I time traveled through this magnificent building.
A volunteer greets you when you pay the 11.00 adult admission fee. You’ll receive a museum guide that will give a brief outline of what to expect throughout the building. The main waiting area is breathtaking. No wonder it was named a National Historic Landmark in 2016 by the U.S. Department of the Interior. It’s art deco architecture places you in a time of the 1920’s and 30’s with high ceilings, cathedral windows, metallic materials like aluminum and stainless steel.
I was taken with the Terrazzo flooring and brass lighting fixtures that hang 45 feet in the air. They’re thirteen feet tall and weigh two tons or more than 2,000 pounds.
It was fun to visit the sculptures that spoke of each passengers’ journey. For example, Old Salesman and the Sign, Ticket Counter, Anticipation and the touching, Young and Old Traveler that touched my heart. After endless photos, reading and listening to stories told, I took a brake at the soda fountain for a quick bite. Afterwards, I made my way downstairs to visit the various galleries and walk through the steam engine, Pullman car, lounge car and caboose. (All were decorated for Halloween)
You may not spend four hours inside the museum as I did while taking part of so many things it had to offer, but you must not miss the beauty and history that this station has to offer. At it’s peak it’s reported that 10,000 people every day passed through Omaha Union Station with seven railroad lines that stopped here.
Overall: Bob, one of the volunteers, was a delight and so informative regarding the history of not only the museum but the rail system and train history.
Kristin Beglin
One of my favorite places in Omaha! Stunning architecture, history pieces, thoughtful exhibits. I went to see the "big tree" and smaller cultural trees along with the temporary "Race" exhibit this visit. Durham is definitely a destination to spend your time in Omaha, whether it's just enough to walk through and see the trains then grab a treat at the Soda Fountain or spend the whole day (and still go to the Soda Fountain).
Lindsay Crowe
Great family place! My son loves trains so this is a must if you have a train lover or just for a great visit. Staff is amazing! There is a lot to take in with all the beautiful architecture and exhibits. We had ice cream at the little shop inside and my kids fell in love with them! A great destination for fun!
Tarra Steele

Always adding new elaborate exhibits and updating old displays! Enjoy several hours of the creative and captivating history of Omaha.

A real once used now preserved train station that is one of the most amazing things I've seen. The top/door level floor is the station and how it looked back then, the bottom/lower floor is jam packed full of history!!! And you get to walk through real trains!!! Must see and recommended for all ages.
David Miles
We very much enjoyed our visit to the Durham. Not only is it a beautiful old building that we don't see any more in our public spaces, but it contains interesting and well done exhibits.
They have a nice permanent collection, as well as several fascinating traveling exhibits. We learned quite a bit about Omaha and the surrounding area, rail travel in the heyday of trains, and enjoyed the beautiful architecture of a bygone era.
The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, the museum was clean and well maintained, and the entry fee was very reasonable at $11.00 per adult when we visited.
Joo Chung
Just moved to Omaha and have zero knowledge about the city. This museum is great place to start! Brief history from how it began to now and explains about buildings you see in downtown. Plus you can walk through an old train.
Corey Whitworth
Fantastic example of art deco and well preserved in all three details. Can easily spend several hours here. Upstairs, there are several displays dedicated to the buildings history, a working soda fountain and a gift shop. Downstairs offered a wonderful example of mid century Pullman cars, a streetcar and steam engine and caboose, as well as regional history displays. The temporary exhibit on prohibition was very well executed with numerous inventive displays. Would highly recommend.
Stephenn Quaglia
Saw show of Costumes from Downton Abbey. Very nicely mounted, deplored the absence of photographs of the stars adjacent to descriptions. Overall good experience. Great old station put to adequate use. Historically preserved without much detrimental renovation. Excellent.
Echo
I highly recommend checking out the Durham, whether you’re a tourist or have lived in Omaha for your entire life. It has amazingly detailed displays in its permanent exhibits, and the temporary exhibits are always beautiful.
Kyler Dowling
Everytime I come here I learn something new. They always have new exhibits. A definitely must see place.
t3rRyan
Had some model trains and short exhibits. Other than the main lobby, or the 'great hall', nothing spectacular or worth mentioning.
Shawn Talley
Nice museum festuring the historic Omaha train depot and many other exhibits with historical relevance to the broader Omaha area.

Very interesting. Fun to walk through the train cars. Really takes you back in time. The children's spy room was neat. Went mid day during the week. Wasn't busy at all.
Fyreph Jdekri
The guides are very passionate about their work and history, it really shows! Their rates are very good, there are many exhibits and beautiful artifacts to aid in learning about the past of our West. I will definitely be going back to see sections of the museum I wasn't able to see this last time!
Autumn B
A nice variety of exhibits to see. I personally liked being able to go on the old passenger train as well as the interior design of the old train station.
Jo Hasselman
Very interesting. I learned a lot about the history of Omaha. I loved the hands on way things were displayed. Gorgeous architecture. A very nice museum
Sam Black
There for my nephew's wedding reception. Excellent venue. Nostalgic and elegant. Thanks to generosity of the bride's family we were able to tour the museum, walk through several restored passenger cars, and take great pictures before the meal and dance. A definite must see if you're in the area.
William Graves
A wonderful museum. You will enjoy your time in the lobby, train cars, street car, and fine exhibits. Great way to see how trains served country in the 30s, 40s, and 50s.
Mikey Macuh
Went for our 16th engagemnt anniversary. We got engaged here on March 3, 2007 at 3:33pm.

Beautiful museum with great events for adults. I attended the Flappers and Fizz event for the first time this year and it was so much fun! Great food & music. Huge turnout for the event but it never felt overcrowded.

The Durham is always a stop for us when we visit Omaha at Christmas.
Donna Blauser
Awesome place! It’s an old Union Pacific train station that’s been converted into a museum. Lots of history of the area plus actual train cars you can walk through. Well worth the time!
adam hoing
We had never been to The Durham Museum before our recent visit. I'm so glad we finally went! They were having a dinosaur exhibit that was unexpectedly and incredibly overwhelming!
The staff does a great job at understanding their audience and caters to young families well. Lots of interactive, learning stations that pair well with the exhibits.
If I had to do it again, I would plan ahead for parking but other than that we had a blast!
Pulu Hui
Rude Mutual of Omaha employees pushing people out of the way. Felt bad for front desk entry as the M.O. Employees/Family being rude not waiting in line with everyone else as she told them to do.
Ginny McFarland
Beautiful Art Deco design features of the train station-turned museum. We visited for the Downton Abbey costume touring exhibit. Beautiful. Many other permanent exhibits well worth your time.
Laura B
Beautiful museum all around!! We loved the James Cameron gallery and we also enjoyed walking through all the trains as well! Loved this museum!
Matt Dudley
Great museum, full of all kinds of different exhibits. My favorite was the train cars, lots of history!
Joshua Markette
On top of being very informative and historic, good lord what a gorgeous building. The exhibits where varied and well maintained and the addition of a classic soda fountain made for a nice way to close off the afternoon. Highly recommended.
Jessica Burke
Very beautiful building full of history. The train were the best part. Reasonably priced afternoon of fun and learning
Jeanie Harrell
Beautiful Christmas Tree!!
Always enjoy being at the Durham.
Alan McCullough
I had a couple of hours to kill before my flight left and I pleasantly surprised by this gem. I probably could have spent twice the amount of time I had available. Great way to learn about the history of the area before europeans arrived and once they did. And, since the college world series was on, I had the place to myself.
Kennedy Henry
The Durham Museum is a must see attraction here in Omaha, Ne. I take my children weekly to participate in the fun activities they have. Looking forward to future visits. COVID-19 cleaning and sanitizing.
Zachery L.
This place is absolutely beautiful. The decor and architecture are so intricate and extravagant I literally wow'ed. The exhibits are fantastic and the train they o
House in the lower floor is probably one of the coolest things I've seen. If you're a museum buff you'd be missing out. Thank you for the experience
Eimandin
My family and I enjoyed every moment we spent here.
All employees were nice and helpful.
Dave was a very nice person he helped us and we had a lovely chitchat too ❤
Will never forget our experience here
God blesa you all
Katie Landen
This place is absolutely amazing, the history it tells was beyond anything I thought I'd see, it definitely gives you a new respect for Omaha.
Beverly Meyer
As always, our visit to Durham was time well spent. Met daughter-in-law and two grandsons that were SO excited to go back to the trains. Older one was even more excited about revisiting the trains over the dinosaur exhibit.
Chris Flamos
Pretty cool museum. A co-worker mentioned this to me and it was a perfect way to kill a couple of hours before my flight home. The lobby in the front is really interesting and in great shape. The rest of the museum gave a great overview of Omaha's history.
Michael Schmidt
Stepping into the Durham Museum is like stepping into a time machine transporting the visitor back to the Golden Age of train travel. The museum is rich in the history of Omaha and the displays are artfully done. Incredible photography and artifacts.
Monika Spies
Had a good time looking at reading about all the clothing that was worn.
Israel Swearingen
No bull! This place is strictly Durham. Does a great job bringing up the past. Never forget to remember.
Edna aka Lemon Lover Flores Lagunas
The Durham Museum is a very fun & educational place to go to with children. They also have an area called soda fountain where food & snacks are available.
tina Gunter
This is an amazing place to visit, it also had a traveling museum in side the Durham museum it was by James Cameron. They stuff from the Titanic, the Abyss
Keith Knobloch
Really enjoyed the place overall. The building is beautiful, the Christmas tree is awesome, and they had singers doing Christmas music...very nice. Going inside the old train cars was very cool, and the exhibits were also very good, but things didn't always seem to flow very well. We often found ourselves wondering what we were looking at now. Exhibits seemed to sort of overlap each other and almost seemed cluttered and busy compared to other museums we've seen. Almost missed the prohibition exhibit because it wasn't marked very well and was through a children's area to get there. Overall, good visit, friendly staff, and well worth the $11 to get in!
Maria Socha
What a stunning space. It truly transports you. I went there for this first time this evening for the "Downton At the Durham" event and to see the "dressing the abbey" exhibit. It was wonderful! The activities, attention to detail and the tie in with the exhibit to the space was very well thought out and executed (i was a high-end event planner for 10 years and i'm very picky). Can't wait to go back during the holiday season.
Rog Iba
A really historic place to visit with the family and friends, very interesting and you can learn a lot of Omaha history and this architecture in this building is amazing and impressive.
Jason Dahl
A very neat place to visit . A beautiful Union Station that takes you back to what it was like when trains were popular for travel. I wish buildings like this were still around more. Lots of exhibits to see and the old train cars and engine are pretty cool.
Very helpful staff and be sure to check out the soda shop before you leave.
Jason Dimmitt
Wow.. Such an amazing place! Right from when you walk in it's incredible. Union Station, the history of that is enough for admission. All of the exhibits were very well done and informative. We will be coming back for sure, especially since we bought season memberships!
Brad Conklin
My kids took a few hundred photos...good indicator they loved it!
Great way to get some history of Omaha!
Kim Orris
I love visiting the Durham! There is always something fun and different to do! The history of Omaha is very interesting!
Jeremy Johnson (Liquid)
This place is awesome. The building is beautiful. The exhibits are great. The staff is very friendly. We went through an adventure exhibit in which both my wife and I died, but it was a lot of fun! Highly recommend this place!
Laura Williams
Brought relative to see Omaha history and the beautiful Art Deco architecture.
David Packard
Just had our wedding here. It was better than expected. Top notch is not good enough to describe the staff. Better than belief. However i have visited on not my wedding night and being from DC i see a good bit about museums especially since i have some friends that work in them. This place is top notch in every way shape and form. There is no debate at all. Period. Go there everything is splendid.
Casey Reppert
Awesome museum! They have so much to look at and I really like how it is broke down in sections/timelines. The dinosaur exhibit was really neat, I'm glad we were able to visit while it was in Omaha!
Ismail Arslan
Who cares about Tesla! First electric car was made In 1910. 70 miles with a single charge. Designed for women:)) Electric car is a permanent display here..
Little Evel
Everyone from the area should go at least once. Lots of cool historical things to see. The Christmas tree is amazing! Don't miss it. Soda fountain is also really cool, really affordable and really good.
Caleb C
Beautiful facility! So much history, great exhibits and fun interactive displays. Worth the visit!
Courtney Hoffses
We had so much fun here exploring with our niece. The Christmas decorations were beautiful and the exhibits were very interesting.
Max Golden
Amazing museum! It's themed around the history of trains in Nebraska. It also featured a pulitzer prize exhibit which was accompanied by a walking tour through the photos explaining the history and background of who/where/what/when they were taken.
Ali Ibrahim
Great Museum to learn about the history and culture of Omaha! $11 to get in for adults. Less for seniors and juniors! You’d need at least 3 hours to browse through the whole place but could easily take a whole morning if you want to soak it all in! Lots of hands on activities for children! There is free parking outside. Don’t forget to grab a souvenir from the gift shop! Also don’t for get to see the 8 minutes movie about the beginnings of Omaha in the movie theatre downstairs first! The staff is very welcoming and friendly
Darkstatus
A really cool thing to visit if you are a history buff. Has cool little shops just as they were stuck in time long ago. Great place to learn and bring kids.
Mikhail Pavstyuk
So interesting good time with friends. We played in quest game inside how to servive in America if you are settlement in 17th century. Interesting game for mature and kids. Every kid needs to play.
Barry Yen
One of The best local museum,
I can stay here for all day long
Aby Garcia
The Durham Museum is a wonderful experience for the whole family ...you feel as part of history as the characters represented at the Museum.
Amy J
Durham Museum is always a good time! The staff is very friendly and helpful. The Jim Henson exhibit is definitely worth a visit!
Amanda Bright
Spent an afternoon here and absolutely fell in love with the space. The exhibits are interesting and focused on Westward expansion. Loved walking through the trains and ringing the way too loud bell downstairs. The real star of the whole thing is the building itself. I had a book with me and I spent an hour sitting in the lobby reading and imagining how busy it must have been back in the 30s when it was used as a major train hub. If I lived in Omaha, I would have a membership here in a heartbeat.
Megan Westfahl
Went here recently for the first time since childhood. It’s much cooler than I remember. I loved seeing all the history of my hometown.
Tim Schendel
One of the most beautiful buildings that I have ever seen. The trip is worth that alone.
Raegan Arnoldy
We had our wedding reception at The Durham Museum and it was beautiful! Our family and friends will for sure be talking about it for years to come :D. Our guests especially liked the ice cream bar at the soda fountain.
I think there were some staff changes while we were in the planning process (about a year and a half), so we worked with a few people. However, we primarily worked with Mary Celer who is so kind and easy to talk to. She knew it was important to us to get pictures at the track level with the trains and made it happen for us! As with most weddings, pictures took longer than anticipated and I am fairly certain she waited well past her shift to make sure we could get downstairs. And even if not, it just meant a lot to us that she helped us get those shots!
We worked with Catering Creations and would absolutely recommend them as well as a co-vendor for and event like this at the museum. They made everything so effortless on our day!
Darrell Clingenpeel (Dimebag Darrell)
Great place learned a lot about the history of Omaha and the train station that the museum is in
Dustin Shropshire
This place is so cool. It’s small but the trains are so neat. Took my 3 yr old daughter and she loved touring the old train. The huge model train display is the coolest. Lots to see. Only takes about an hour or so to get through it all. The staff is super nice too.
The cafe food is really good. Just took a while to get. My frito bowl had no cheese but I ate it anyways. Their pulled pork and Mac n cheese is delicious.
Dheepak Guruswamy
Nice place to visit. Can spend about 2-3 hours in the place. Good train exhibits.
Jessica Parker
Such an amazing place to visit and learn a few things. I love the train station! So romantic
Danny Gleich
There was much much more here than I anticipated! I enjoyed the train tour, Raleigh was very knowledgeable about the train cars and Omaha history. Had a chocolate soda at the fountain!
JJ Andregg
Beautiful and interesting history. The volunteers are so helpful and knowledgeable. Today we saw the world's largest TR. It was one of 4 cast of the original. They also have lots of hands on things for kids.
Gail Jones
Wonderful history in a beautifully restored building.
A must see for families.
Plan accordingly as there is a lot to see, do, & read here.
Emily Exley
Had a great experience and can't wait to bring the family back. It was a unique opportunity to see the inside of old train cars and would be great for train lovers of all ages and museum and history enthusiasts as well. I had no idea it was an old train station and was happily impressed with the variety from the photography, trains, history and coin collection. There was something for everyone.
David Barnes
I loved going as a child. I love taking my children. I can't wait to go with my grandchildren.
Anthony d'Ercole
A nice museum with fun areas for kids to play and learn. Spaces for events are available, and they often get traveling exhibits which are fun to view.
Kim Wright
Took the grandkids to the Durham for a free family fun day... alot of activities and things to learn. Great place and day for the kids.
Sean Banks
Trains inside, coin collection, historical memorabilia, scale models of huge projects and the best era correct restoration of a building I've seen to date.
Evann Gardels
AMAZING BUILDING! Neat facts about Omaha's history. Fun soda fountain with AWESOME ICECREAM CONCOCTIONS!
JK
Great place to spend a couple of hours on a Saturday afternoon. Historical trains, storefronts, and a rich history of America (and Omaha) in a sprawling, majestic museum. We finished our visit with a chocolate shake from the cafe....delish!
Cambria Rosales
A gorgeous museum full of unique trinkets of history and a score of activities for kids young and old! currently they are rocking a dinosaur exhibit and Americans democracy as well. Both were brilliant and the kids loved seeing the huge T-REX!! The little soda bar upstairs was a pleasant ending to the long walks and pictures we took while enjoying the museum!
Nikki Diggins
Took my granddaughter there for a school field trip, she is 4 years old and we both had a nice time. I may go back this weekend with her Grandpa because he would really enjoy it, I'm sure.
Maria Monica Restrepo
Really cool experience, absolutely stunning interior architecture 🇺🇸❤️ …
Kathryn Featherstone
It was an unusual treat to walk through historical passenger train cars, indoors on a winter day. The art deco train depot is largely in original condition, giving a sense of what it was like when in use. The Omaha history displays are nicely done and educational.
In addition, the rotating photography displays were prisons displayed and thought provoking.
The soda fountain has been continuously open since the train station opened. Our family of four enjoyed sharing two double-scoop sundaes. It was a fun experience!
Whether you want to learn about local history or are a train enthusiastic, this is a great place for you!
Sonny Crockett
Best $11 Bucks you will ever spend. Rounded off with ice cream . To all concerned excellent 10/10 & Thanks
Richard Sides
What a great museum!
The exhibits were engaging and informative, plus there is really something for everyone, regardless of age.
W1ckedshort
A reminder of Omaha's golden age of class and the importance of the railroad. It's cliche, but it really is a step back in time. This place has so much of Omaha's history, it's people, and even it's architecture and infrastructure. If you love this city and are a history buff this place is Nirvana. Please check it out and see for yourself. (This photo was taken during it's annual Christmas celebration)
Lori Berhent
Lovely museum! Amazing architecture and fun way to interact with history.
Jeff Remmert
The Durham is a must when in downtown Omaha. Beautiful architecture and awesome travelling exhibits are a couple of reasons why I could spend a few hours here every month. Pro tip, avoid it durning the free admission days as its a complete zoo. I appreciate the museum supporting boy and girl scouts with events monthly.
Emily Didde
We had a fantastic experience hosting our wedding reception at the Durham Museum! The staff was so friendly and helpful, from the very first time I reached out about wanting to tour the space. The space is absolutely BEAUTIFUL, and the different spaces were perfect for all the different portions of the evening. We started with cocktail hour on the Track Level, and guests were able to explore the museum exhibits, which is very cool and unique. We had dinner in the Grand Hall, which was very comfortable for our 300 guests. I was originally worried about the acoustics in this room, but we rented a speaker system that worked extremely well for prayers and toasts. Guests moved to the Swanson Gallery for dancing and desserts. We also set up some cocktail tables so guests could enjoy the band without having to be on the dance floor. Guests that wanted a more quite area for conversation were able to stay in the Grand Hall and chat. I cannot say enough about the accommodating staff and unique charm of the Durham. We would highly recommend this space to any couple planning their big day!
Joanna Hahn
Hi everybody. The experience was truly amazing. Took me back when my grama was alive . The fill the touch. To see what kind of life she experience . The history, the time life she lived in. Was truly an experience that hit my heart .
They went through so much , so we don't have to today . Well life is still challenging, however you build your own garden and make it grow.
See the stores , the local motive . They way there houses might of been. The stand where they would get there tickets. I can here the sounds of the train. Maybe greeting people they haven't seen for a long time or leaving to go on to a new adventure . The candie , ice cream was great ! . The music they played back then.
I would recommend everyone to experience it just once in there life time .
My story, I hope that this has inspired somone, that is not into things like this to check it out.
At the Durham western heritage museum
Fawn Horner
I bought an annual membership for my family on our last visit. Today we came back to explore the Jamestown exhibit. It is a fun, hands-on experience. This was my second time completing the game. It is such a fun way to learn about our country's first settlers and the hardships that they endured.
Joe Messina
Fun museum in an old train station
Benjamin Rostick
Interesting history of both the town and the Railroad. Good place to bring the kids.
Denise Losh
It is a great place. You can see rail cars. Also history of early years of our country.
James Burgess
Great Art Deco Architecture, lots of interesting information on the history of Omaha including the train exhibit.
Great malts at the soda shop.
Beautiful Christmas tree!
Jennifer “Jenny” Finn Sutton
Very educational and fun. Adult and kid friendly. Interesting. Memberships are prices right.
Lee Volkens
An amazing historical building in downtown Omaha. The touring exhibits are a great addition to the museum. The place is great for anyone!
a c
Thoroughly enjoyed the vintage train cars and the temporary Nelson Mandela exhibit. Staff was extremely friendly, Thanks Bob for all the great information. And the soda fountain was delicious!
joe stock
Great place to take the family! There are new displays a few times a year. Our family enjoys this place.
Darin Lunde
Very interesting museum with many great/neat displays. While the museum was built into the old Omaha Union Train Station, less of the museum was about trains and rail than I thought it'd be. They had a variety of other exhibits about general American and native American history as well!
Michiel Buitelaar
A nice museum but - to be honest - mainly for locals, or those that have a special interest in local history.
The building I found stunningly beautiful. Amazing.
Ethan Redmond
I loved walking through this museum, which has it all from amazing Art Deco architecture, to a train you can walk through to get a feel for travel in the past, to a hut used by the locals (prior to white men, if I remember correctly) you can enter to see how people lived in the area previously.
Statues, photography, architecture, engineering, history, and art are all on display at this wonderful museum.
The Mandela exhibition was beautiful, exhaustive, and (emotionally) exhausting; this exhibit also touched on the recent/ongoing Black Lives Matter movement of the US towards the end.
I will 100% go back on my next visit to Omaha.
Maggie Boyden
Went back for a visit after they hosted an event with over 2500 people... What a great place to visit!!! A must do in Omaha!!!
George KItkowski
Went with a lady here at our apartment. Been looking forward seeing the Downtown Abby exhibit!! Neat seeing the costumes from the movie!! I wore my 1930's costume with hat!!
LeAnne White
Was crowded when we went but that was understandable as it was the last day for free admission. We enjoyed going, love going through the train cars and ringing the bell.
Rebecca Green
Pretty neat to see the old trains and how we use to travel
Curtis Hauge
First of all, it's a beautiful renovation. And I know that they have to charge admission to pay for it...but eleven bucks is too much to pay to walk through some old train cars and see reenacted storefronts. There is a history of Omaha course included and an overwhelming coin collection to see, but not much else. The soda fountain is a nice touch. Really considering the Joslyn Art Museum is free, I ended up realistically paying $5.50 apiece. So if you go to both places in the same day it evens out.
Leah Lenagh
Always enjoy the Christmas tree and very happy they have the cultural tree display back this year.
Dawn Schipman
It was amazing. Went to see the Jim Hensen exhibit and excited to get in.
Theresa DesRosiers
The Christmas season is in full swing at the Durham Museum. Bring your family to see the huge Christmas tree and listen to music groups on the weekends.
Deb Huls
Great experience for all ages. Nice to see how omaha grew. Need to see and appreciate
Robert Gosse
Nice museum. Been there several times. This year my son was excited about a display about dinosaurs, but when we got there we discovered it was geared more for little kids. But there were many other things to see and do that kept us busy for quite a while. We will continue to go back.
Eric Rudberg
Amazing Art Deco architecture in this old train station, beautifully restored. Plus the museum tells the history of Omaha, extremely interesting.
Atman Dave
Nice historic museum with now defunct trains. Really well maintained. Majestic halls and architecture. Lower level is well designed with lots of activities for kids. Plenty of space to walk around and enjoy your time. Would certainly recommend checking it out. We went during the winter break and the Christmas tree there was fantastic.
F Williams
Always a nice place to visit during the holidays. This year's Jim Henson Exhibit was fun.
Jason “WhiteDra9on” stick
This place is great. Helps us see the History of Omaha Nebraska and how trains were used back then and much more. Fun for all ages.
Maria Briggs
The dinosaur exhibit is there June 8 to Sept 1 I believe and is definitely worth going to see. There are a ton of interactive exhibits for the kids and interesting facts for adults. They even have a T-Rex skeleton!! If you love dinosaurs definitely worth the trip!
Joshua Duggan
Pretty awesome. It was great to get a history of the place and it’s significance to Omaha. Make sure you’re in the mood to read. There is a lot to read along the way.
Chamelaeon Wombatowski
The restoration and display of this art deco treasure was a genuine philanthropic act of genius. The Christmas tree they display every year is not to be missed; and if you get time, get a Mint Melt away sundae at the soda fountain!
Marcus Tan
Interesting museum. Loved the Nelson Mandela exhibit that they have now!!
Tanner Aherns
I personally love going here. Went here last week on my day off and it's been years since I've been. Some stuff was the same, but a lot of it was revamped and more polished. It's always a lovely place to go to around Christmas time. They have the biggest Christmas tree around every year. It's normally almost 50ft tall. They have the best milkshakes in Omaha as well. I'll never forget all the times I've went to Durham. Such great memories.
Ernesto Espinoza
Grat place to visit if you are around or as a tourist, french lady that is at the tickets station is very friendly and gives a good explanation about the place.
Will Nester
Historic architectural landmark with excellent rotating exhibits.
Certainly a special place over the holidays.
J.L. Schmidt
This is absolutely the crown Jewel of the Art Deco era. Carefully and tastefully preserved as it was during its heyday in the 1930s.
Talking statues abound in the great Hall, a period soda fountain intrigues and serves up phosphates and shakes and malts.
A wide variety of displays, including full size locomotives and train cars, fill the lower level.
There is something here for all ages and I'm not sure if one day is enough time to see it all.
We'll worth the visit. I'M m already planning to go again to see what I missed the first time.
Harley Kinell
Wonderful experience and a good mix of attractions for all ages! Food & desserts are delicious! Easy access free public parking & phenomenal facilities that's clean & has plenty of space. You could probably breeze through in an hour but easily spend half a day there. Go enjoy it!!
Mohsen Fatemi
It was good but too expensive for a quick visit.
Amanda S
I would definitely recommend stopping by the Durham Museum because there is something here for everyone. There are old train cars you can walk through, historical exhibits of life in Nebraska from the 1700's until now, tons of historical paraphernalia, and a cool temporary exhibit called Zoom. Would be great for kids, but also really interesting for adults too.
James Ellingson
It was a larger museum then I thought. Trains and other exhibits to see. Very kid friendly. They had the Nelson Mandela show case which had a lot of information on his life and activism. Most of the museum is on the lower floor. You are able to walk through the trains and see other historical info of Omaha
Ward Williams
Beautiful building inside and out, with a great set of exhibits for adults as well as children. Very kid-friendly!
Tavi
Always a pleasure. So much attention to detail. Gem of a museum right here in Omaha.
Curlee Brazell
I have seen so much at the Durham. Great place to learn about history.
Cory Knutson
Great sight to go see while in the area. Lots of interesting history and beautiful architecture.
Ms Opinionated
This is a great place to visit! There is quite a bit to see, and the museum hosts more than one exhibit. Our kids loved exploring the railroad cars, and Engine car. We got to see an Under Sea Exploration by James Cameron. They also had a medical exhibit, and others about pioneers and early life on the plains. I had visited here a few years ago, when they had a several items of Katherine Hepburn's wardrobe on display, which was very enjoyable. Highly recommend.
Caitlin Curry
Durham has something for everyone! The Nelson Mandela exhibit was wonderful and it was fun to learn about the history of Omaha. Walking through the old train cars was pretty neat too.
A Watton
Amazing place to visit. Good price. Very fun with family to do place.
Ken Jackson
Allot of fun for the children and the soda fountan area is really nice, but mostly understaffed.
Gary Kudrna
Great for a family outing. Love the soda fountain, train, and special exhibits.
Anastasia Barreto
Great museum! Beautiful building inside! We had a lott of fun as a family!
Paula Griffin
I enjoyed this place. It was informative and interesting
Mary Allen
Grandpa and I were with 9 and 6 year old grandkids. It was a great time. The kiddos found all the elves and collected the candy cane reward. The 9 year old loved the Standing Bear exhibit. She had done a report in school on Standing Bear. The 6 year old liked anything hands on and there was plenty of that. We had lunch at the old fashioned soda fountain before continuing our exploration. We were there about 2 1/2 hours.
Jeff “IrishRedd”
Always a great place to visit. I always find something new and interesting. Love the traveling exhibits. Louder than words was one of the best so far.
jack bailey
Great experience, great staff, and excellent exhibits.
Zachary Tabor
Fantastic museum nestled in the heart of Omaha's historical Old Market district. Wet your whistle with a refreshing beverage from the soda fountain. The Byron Reed collection was amazing amongst many other treasures.
N C
Incredible; the Durham Museum is a must see in Omaha! The following are some item to note:
*The old fashion soda fountain is a must when you visit; the drinks/food were outstanding!!
*On the first floor you have the opportunity of walking through various passenger train cars representing different period of times which was a very unique experience.
*The museum on the first floor is extremely impressive; furthermore, we had the opportunity of catching the traveling exhibit ‘Challenging the Deep’ which was remarkable.
It is worth noting, make sure to give yourself plenty of time here. We anticipated the museum to be smaller and wish we could have stayed an extra hour or two.
Erick Castro
Really neat museum that was an old railway station.
Cameron “PhotosAsArtEnthusiast”
This is such a great Museum to visit. We especially loved going through the rail cars with each car representing a different era from oldest to maybe the 1950s or 60s - so interesting to see how people traveled in years gone by. The Station itself is an Art Deco masterpiece and quite the sight to see - they definitely don't make them like this anymore. Highly recommend a visit to this gem.
Devin Draper
Definitely one of my favorite places in Omaha. Vast amount of historical items, trains you can tour, travelling exhibits that are captivating, it's worth going for any price, luckily it's affordable. I recommend a family membership as it's a steal and I could go back weekly.
Loretta Stokes
The train exhibits are fun and family friendly, something for all ages.
Charles McGill
I loved it. So much history. Plan on going again soon.
Brenda N
Always a wonderful time every time that we go. This time we came with a large group and everyone was able to browse the museum and enjoy their time. The feature exhibit was "underwater" with focal points of Titanic and other under water accidents. In the dinning car David, a volunteer was able to tell our group more about the history of the cars. We were able to all stop in and take photos and sit in awe of how travel has changed. We did come with a group of young adults, however this is always a wonderful place for younger children.
Justin Webster
Beautiful old train station now museum. Lots of old artifacts located in the museum. Is a good venue for hosting parties or weddings. If you like trains you'll definitely want to stop by this place for a visit.
Stephen Jones
We love this museum. They have great exhibits and rotate them on a normal schedule.
We went there recently to see the guitar exhibit and the displays and demonstrations were fantastic. They had great stories and explanations behind each display piece (guitar) fun activities for the kids.
They also had a great staff who went around telling stories about different pieces of equipment and the histories behind them.
Overall, we will always return.
jeremy cavazos
My kid loved the museum and I did as well.
Bird Forever
Very nice museum learned allot with my grandkids.
David Rebello
Fabulous setting. A former Union Pacific train station that Union Pacific donated to the city and the city turned into this museum. Well laid out. Excellent displays and artifacts. Very clean; COVID protocols being followed.
Attended here as a chaperone for a school field trip and was very impressed with the staff. Very knowledgeable, but also able to relate the information to third graders.
Sections we enjoyed were: Omaha as the Native Americans experienced it before white settlers arrived; Lewis & Clark’s expedition, and of course the Union Pacific train exhibits.
Caleb
Lots of great history exhibits on Omaha. Cool special exhibits as well. They have reservations set up to limit guests in the pandemic, but there were still plenty of people (kids) in certain areas (esp. the Christmas and Jim Henson special exhibits, as well as the food area) which definitely made me a little wary. Overall though a great historic place that I see myself coming back to!
George Lowry
There is something for every grown-up. History buffs, train buffs, and fans of time travel. Entering the building is like time travel.
Jill Rosas
Great museum to visit and learn about the history of Omaha!
Shelsea Stone
So much to do here for all ages. You can go through the old train cars and sit in the seats, then there is a huge model train set that my toddler probably could have sat and watched forever. The displays are very informative. Lots of cool things about Omaha history. Gift shop with Omaha souvenirs. Plus discounted tickets Tuesday evening got our whole family in very affordably.
Rome Cottrell
It's been a long time since I been to the Durham Museum , but the last time I visited this wonderful museum here in Omaha , I enjoyed myself and so did my family .
Anna Johnson
This is a beautiful walk through history. It's a must see if you are in Omaha area. I just love this part of town!!
Jordec Cramer
Went for the Hall Of Heroes exhibit.
C Christoph
Share an era & use your storytelling to make come alive what most children will not experience- the swaying of a train sleeping car, jumping into a trolley to get to work or stores, so many other moments of the history of bygone days. Stop at the working soda fountain and have a phosphate or order a malt where you still get a full malt glass AND the stainless mixing glass with more malt to pour into your glass! Make a photo memory with the gorgeous Christmas tree during the holidays. The employees are friendly and other customers are nice to talk with as well.
Mia Morgan
Beautiful Art Deco design inside and out. The main hall is amazing!!
Wesley Pendergrass
Would be better for children than me, but still cool
Sonia Valentine
Lots of train related plus you can sit down for a rootbeer float at this museum.
angela rose
super busy but the downton abbey exhibit was amazing
Gene Veburg
Good museum with a strong permanent indoor collection. History of Omaha and UP railroad are good exhibits. Take time to tour the passenger train cars if they are open. One of the few places I've visited that you can walk through the cars as originally used. Mack Bulldog truck is one of my favorites.
The great hall is magnificent in late deco style. Stop in during the holidays and see the Christmas tree.
Sandra Luding
Always a neat experience! Stopped this time to see the miniature trains, historical coins and tokens, listened to a tour guide tell us about several train cars and saw the Challenging the Deep exhibit. All were really cool, but the Deep exhibit was super interesting and we learned a lot. Would recommend to anyone!
Mark Kemmerer
Have always loved this museum! Great exhibits! Omaha history is so interesting.
Maggie Cutkosky
Love going there anytime but especially when it is decorated for Christmas.
Ryan H.
Took my kids to the Durham Museum because the boy loves trains. He loved the model train exhibit and the rail cars.
It's a beautiful building, the staff was friendly and helpful. Lots of the staff are volunteers who give their time and knowledge freely.
The only downside to the museum is that it doesn't have many exhibits that change, at least from my experiences. I can understand that it can be difficult to provide a new experience while trying to maintain the extensive exhibits that are offered year round.
There have been some neat exhibits that have been shown lately, so don't let that last paragraph keep you from visiting. Also I'll admit I don't look at their calendar to see what is upcoming so the visits we have made, may have been in-between the rotating exhibits.
Patricia Mason
This was a nice experience. There is so much to see. Everything is well preserved and nicely presented. There is so much history and information within those walls. Definitely worth a visit!
Ryuuie Ryuu
First time being here despite being born here in Omaha. I love this place snd will definitely come back.
Nicole Kitchen
This place is absolutely amazing! There is SO much to take in! Being able to climb in and walk the length of the railroad car was fabulous!!
Kevin Dickerson
There traveling exhibits are always great!

Awesome museum...all kinds of exhibits to see. Ocean underwater movies..places to sit..train cars dont run but are fun to walk through..soda fountain...passes are 30 dollars for seniors plus one an extra 20...well worth getting a pass regardless of how old you are. Exhibits always changing. Lots of room for kids.
GO SEE IT!

This is a very unique and fun place lots to see and lots to do. Now I do think that it is a bit pricey for families. We go there one to two times a year. It is very clean and well kept. The train is so much fun to walk through. There is a lot for the kids to interact with. I think adults will be just as entertained. I myself enjoy walking around looking and reading what’s on display while learning something new every time I go there. We have had shakes and root beer floats at the food station. The price is right very delicious products with good portions. The bathrooms every time we have gone are very clean. All in all a good family-friendly place.
deb jane
Lady at the front desk was lovely and extremely helpful. Saved me a lot of time and inconvenience with getting tickets on entry. She had a lovely French accent too. The museum was lovely to visit. Very interesting architecture. Trains were great and the kids loved it. Will definitely be back. If you like steam trains this place is well worth a visit. Great value.
Mike Roberts
Great museum very enjoyable.
Sara Stepan
Went for Scouts night and my Girl Scouts troop had a blast.
jorgea MENA
Amazing historic place, the architecture is amazing and the exhibits are beautiful and historic
Alison Brokke
This is a great museum. It is very clean. The staff is very nice. There are permanent and temporary exhibits featured here.
derek fletcher
I am a lover of anything history. Museums are my jam.
This one scratches an itch i didn't know I had. If you want to know more about Nebraskas development, true local history, this place has it.
Bob LeBaugh
Went for the Christmas tree but found many other interesting exhibits to explore. Will go back again.
Tamara Gordon
The architecture is what brought me. The trains are what brought my companions. The guitar exhibit was a wonderful unexpected bonus. The exposition replication was amazing. Really great exhibits of Omaha and Nebraska history. Friendly staff. Don't ring the bell by the train!!! Real train bell is loud. Model train layout was huge. Moving turntable and Roundhouse. Specific days to go on actual train cars. Definitely get a refreshing treat in soda fountain. Loved the ice cream sundae with cone pieces and caramel. 😋
Richard McClincy
Just visited for a business event and did not see the whole museum, but what a nice experience. The museum was Omaha's train station at one time, and along with the exhibits, the architecture is beautiful inside and out. Absolutely worth a visit.
yen le
What a great place to kill a couple of hours with the kids. The staffs are great and friendly. The museum has great train models that we can walk through. My toddler son really enjoyed it a lot.
James Davis
Great Museum and family place... Noon Years 2018 was a blast!
JOHN Mareda
Nice to see the great variety of guitars.
Richard E De La Rosa
Excellent museum. Great bargin. Great history of the beginnings of the Omaha area.
Krista Patton
Been going here since I was little, it's like you have gone back in time. They soda shop fountains and they amazing exhibits. They also have movies on how omaha when it stated out as a city and how it expanded to today. Love it highly recommend.
marja thompson
This museum was such a pleasure to go through! We spent 2 hours there and I felt like I only read 10% of what I could have! The history is fascinating, the exhibits draw you in, and it's so enjoyable to just soak it all up! Places like these can make learning about our countries' history so much fun for young people! I'm 31 years old right now, and I know my 6 year old daughter would have been thrilled to see everything here and asked a million questions! (I visited here when traveling without her) The gift shop has a great selection of nice options as well.
Amber Emberton
We always enjoy visiting The Durham. We visit every year during Railroad Days and anytime there is an interesting exhibit like "Challenging the Deep" which my son and I both enjoyed thoroughly! There's a lot of cool history to experience at The Durham!
Jeff L
Was nice. Not as pretty or big as union stations in St. Louis or Kansas City. My kids had a good time but not sure it would interest most kids. My complaint is charging 13 year olds as adults.
JD Staley
What a great place. So rich is the local history and this place showcases it
Chris Le Grand
What an amazing experience!!! The static displays, capturing the history of Omaha are fascinating. The old time soda fountain is great!! If you're in the area, I highly recommend paying this place a visit!
Christa
We've visited a few times and we enjoy it. My sons have their favorite things to do already picked out. The exhibit for surviving Jamestown was different from what I expected, but it was a lot of fun. I know my sons enjoyed it. It's big but very open and I think it's a very fascinating place. We bought a year pass and we've already got our money's worth out of it! We will definitely take our kids to see the next exhibit when it opens.
Andrea Olson
The Nelson Mandela exhibit was VERY good! We also toured the Omaha exhibit. Very informative and fun.
Jared Anderson
Love the history and the ambiance of the place. The soda fountain is pretty legit, too and isn't overly expensive. Go for a membership if you have a big family like us- you'll save money the second time you come. Sometimes younger kids may not have the attention span to really get into like older kids and adults.
Zach Hendrix
The Durham Museum was such an unexpected surprise! I didn't expect much when looking at the museum online, but the exhibits and the detailed history of Omaha and Nebraska displayed was superb! It was so pleasant and a lovely afternoon spent.
Jacqueline Sim
This is a must-see train station museum!! If you are in Omaha, be sure to see this! Also, don't miss the fantastic museum downstairs!! Look for the Buffalo inside! Be sure to have a soda at the original soda fountain! Thank you for preserving this to take us back in time!
Charles Harbour
We went for the James Cameron exhibition and loved it. The different displays appeal to all age groups, and inspires people to do more research.
The rest of the museum is a nice testament to the Omaha area. We loved the trains.
Stephi Dalen
My toddler absolutely loved it, so I went ahead and bought a membership. Be loved getting on the real trains, watching the models, and playing at the tables. I didn't have the opportunity to check out some of the exhibits but they were geared more towards adults and kids would likely get bored of all the reading and I was there for my 3 year old. The soda fountain has delicious drinks and ice cream.
John
We went recently for the Jim Henson exhibit. It was by appointment only and they did a really good job with social distancing and sanitation. It was great to be able to do something like this with everything else going on. We really enjoyed the exhibit the fantastic job capturing his imagination and ideas and it brought back the child in both my wife and I. I think we enjoyed it even more than our kids did. We were smiling under our masks right up until the last turn and we realized that it was the last room.
K S
Neat museum with a lot of history. It would really take several trips to take it all in.
Susan Benson
Very interesting exhibit of James Cameron Exploring the Deep. Have been wanting to go see it and this is the last weekend for it. 4 videos to watch as he explores underwater adventures, and the discovery of the Titanic. Lots of artifacts to see and read about. A must see exhibit. Recommend for everyone.
Adam Benway
Plenty of intriguing items here with a lot of descriptions for everything. The museum offers a great overview of the history of the area and allowed visitors to choose how much information they received. Each exhibit offered a brief overview of a topic and provided more detailed info on smaller placards. We spent about 90 minutes in the museum and had a good experience but very well could have stayed far longer. The hands-on displays are fantastic! walking through is also easy and it is difficult to get lost. Would recommend!
Avocado D
The old train station that the museum is is is super cool, I also like that they have a temporary exhibit so it us not always the same
A Albright
What a beautiful museum. I brought my children and they had so much fun. The trains were incredible, they had a blast walking through them and pretending they were passengers on a trip. We also enjoy the coin collection. There was a volunteer explaining many of the coins to us, it was like our personal tour. There is much more to see and do here. I would recommend taking the day and exploring. Free parking too!
Melanie Daniels
We loved the Durham Museum. That was our second time going, and my daughter's first. We enjoyed the Under the sea exhibit, and Omaha pictures. Love the gift shop, and we ate at the soda fountain.
Chris Redding-Wagner
If you're visiting the Jim Henson exhibit, be prepared to wait in line. The Durham staff are being very careful to limit guests according to the present guidelines. The exhibit is well worth the wait, though. There are actual puppets on display, and they can bring back some wonderful memories if you were a child of the 70s, 80s, or 90s.
Gayle Elston
This place was so much better than I anticipated and we could have spent several more hours there if we had the time. The building was breathtaking, the trains were really neat to walk through, and the history area was set up better than almost any museum I've been to. The different areas were really creative (a house, a fair, library, saloon, etc) and there was even a building area for kids and they had some crafts going on as well. We finished our visit with egg cream sodas and some kids sundaes... Yum.
george gillespie
Great permanent and temporary exhibits! A great museum everyone should see. Christmas tree this year was beautiful!
Kevin J. Milam
Love every minute of it! The cashier was friendly. She explained the nature use of the building. A thorough explaination of how the museum came to be. Grateful for her love shown to my friend, her son and me.
Kevin Porter
I've been to the Durham many times in the last several years, mostly for tours and special exhibits. They're always interesting and our tour guides were always pleasant, knowledgeable, and professional. Love the Durham!
Rachael Nohrenberg
One of my favorite historical places in Omaha. Love it! Was the florist for this wedding.
Mary Roarty
Such fun to vosit the Durham on Saturday when the fashioned soda fountain is open for lunch. Kids love it!
chad krueger
Amazing Christmas tree, great singers tonight! They always do it right! Loved the reindeer!
Brett Scollard
It is a beautiful building, and the exhibits were nicely done. However, the displays were rather sparse. Lot's of good information to read, but not much on display besides the traveling exhibit and the trains. Other exhibit were reconstructions and not actual historical artifacts. There were actual old refrigerators and other household items on display. They were a fun reflection on an earlier time, but at the end of the day, not the kind of thing for museums.
It would be a top notch museum for a small town, but should be better for a city like Omaha. I really want to see it grow and become better.
Ryan Laushman
Great history! Great displays! Great Tree!
h娜诶开诶艾哦吉诶迪勒弗哦吉(SamanthadogTV)
the best union station ever! they have statues that talk and have conversations when you walk up to them! if i could live there i would, not to mention the bug trains you get too walk through!!
Gordon L. Foster
I was in Omaha over the weekend and looking for things to do. I found this online and was pleasantly surprised. The displays were very informative and the entire Museum was very well done. Once I had finished walking around I went upstairs to their restored soda fountain. I can say I've never actually had a Cherry Coke phosphate before. Thank you for a great experience!
Joshua Malfoy
The Durham is poorly located and difficult to navigate to if you're not familiar with downtown Omaha. The layout is confusing and it's proximity to drinking establishments is questionable, but, the cultural content is worth the hassle.
Marcia Friesz
Great museum. Dinosaur exhibit is for younger kids. Like 7 and under. Disappointed it wasn't for older kids.
Stephen Piela
Beautiful architecture and lots of history. Formerly Union Station.
Jeff Ladegaard
We stopped in to see the traveling Dinosaur display and it was pretty interesting. All the dinosaurs were from the tyrannosaurus family. They had several nice displays, although I think everything was a recreation and nothing was authentic. There were quite a few games you could play to see how the dinosaurs died, or learn about the relationship between them or even see how strong they could bite. The traveling exhibit did not cost anything extra which was nice. The old trains they had in the station were very interesting to walk through and really appreciate modern travel!
Tyler Nelson
Was very interesting and well put together. The old trains were fun to walk through and both of the temporary exhibits were well put together. My 6 year old son and I loved doing the pioneer maze! Worth at least one visit if you're in the area.
Staci Rogert
Amazing place. Thank Goodness so much history is donated & cherished by staff & directors. The Jim Henson Exhibit was so awesome...brought me back to much happier childhood days of wonder & excitement & laughs....My dad & I really had nice afternoon.
Melissa Mona
Love the traveling exhibits so there is something new to see regularly. The main exhibits are still fun to see on a regular basis. And at Christmas time it's great to see all the different traditions from around the world. Plus, a snack at the soda fountain is a must.
Jolene Gewinner
Such a fun place to visit. Beautiful architecture. I have enjoyed coming here since I was a child and still do as an adult. The trains are so fun to go through and they have a lot of very interesting and well done exhibits on the history of the building and of Omaha. The traveling special exhibits are always great, too.
Stephanie Jackson
My son loved it! Went for a birthday party and he had fun viewing the train cars. Our tour guide was nice and definitely very knowledgeable, though I think he was a little too factual for our group of kindergarten and 1st graders. Maybe someone who was better with engaging young kids would have been better. 6 and 7 year olds don't understand the Great Depression or the value of a dollar back in those days. The kids all seemed uninterested by all of the information they were getting 😆. But the museum is beautiful and nice for families to go through on their own.
Natalie May
Beautiful fun and family-friendly. Love all the exhibits they have throughout the year.
Karin Klitzke
They were very acknowledgeable of anything you wanted to go and see
Jennifer Whitenack
Beautiful museum inside the old Union Pacific train depot. We really enjoyed being able to walk through the train cars. The dinosaur exhibit on loan was exciting, and we loved stopping by the old fashioned soda fountain for ice cream before leaving. I hear it is really beautiful at Christmas time. We will have to try and get over there around the holiday.
Daniel Johnson
It's a cool place. If you love trains you should like it a lot. I personally didn't find it incredibly fascinating or captivating as far as museums go. I do know people who really like it though. To each their own. There are typically some interesting temporary exhibits worth looking into. I'd give the Durham Museum a maybe.
Brianna Cater
Been here a few times since moving to Omaha. I love the soda fountain and the special exhibits they always seem to have. Recently took my son for the first time for his first birthday and he had tons of fun even though there wasn't a children's area that we saw
Marlayna
Loved this place!! Will be returning!! Kids loved it!
Liz Boysen
Absolutely adore this place! Rich in history and flooded with facts! One day I'll have my wedding reception here!
William Mihalo
Our 2.5 year old granddaughter loves this place. She likes the waiting room and the mac and cheese from the snack bar. Downstairs she likes setting up toy train tracks and visiting the old store fronts. Of course this place has some very interesting adult exhibits. This is a great place to visit when the weather outside is terrible.
A and N Wolfe
It was so educational as well as being so beautiful!
Fay Lee
Top notch museum. I hope I can make it to Omaha again someday and visit a second time. It's in the former Omaha Union Train Station. The interior of the building is magnificent. They keep it in great shape. A vivid reminder of the Golden Age of passenger train travel. The museum is down stairs and is packed full of history about passenger train travel, about general rail history, and about Omaha n Council Bluffs, Iowa (which is just on the other side of the Missouri River and is closely tied with Omaha in history). There's a vintage steam locomotive, caboose, and several passenger cars there also. If you're interested in this sort of history you can easily spend several hours here.
Rachael Ausbie
You just go and visit if you don't know the history of Nebraska
T McKinley
Good for all ages. Not too expensive. $11 for adults, $7 for kids.
Trains to walk through.
Miniature electric train display
Natural history displays
Old model cars
Currently on display they have guitars
Gavin Phillips (Boi238)
Amazing place to check out. Really cool looking. Train exhibits are top notch. Great place to bring children. If you go you will not be bored nor disappointed.
Adriene Archibald
History and beauty strike a perfect balance in this art deco inspired former train station. This museum is informative, interactive and Instagram worthy. The train cars downstairs bring out the kid in all of us, and it's definitely fun for the whole family!
Molly Smith
The Durham Museum is a great museum for both kids and adults! They always have permanent exhibits including old train cars that you can walk through! Plus traveling exhibits that they do an amazing job with. There is also an old fashion soda shop where you can get a hot dog and a black cow if it suits you. Or any number of Italian sodas!
Sonia
Had an afternoon with my grandfather looking at some history and it was a great time!
Austin French
It's a great museum. Lots of local history and fun exhibits.
I really love the old street car, and personally I can't wait for Omaha to bring back some form of mass transit rail.
The exhibits change at what seems a decent rate too. Much of the museum is new to me, after visiting it for the first time 6 months ago.
Scott Klusaw
A historic cultural center of Omaha... that I worry couldn't stay alive if it wasn't for generous donations and School field trips. A museum dedicated to a city who may have some interesting trivia tidbits, is not overflowing with history. Worth visiting for a special exhibit, but even then -- can be left wanting more.
T. O.
The Durham Museum is great. They have so many cool exhibits on not just trains but everything, currently including dinosaurs! I really like the staging of their main entryway just inside the main doors. Some of the models of people look so real, it took me a second to realize that they were staged mannequins. They even have a cute little malt-style shop in there where you can get a drink, maybe even food. I didn't take too close a look at it, honestly. They have a lot of train cars that you can walk through and explore. Plus, on these hot days the cool air in the Durham Museum feels so good and refreshing! A great way to spend a couple hours during a hot afternoon in downtown/Old Market Omaha! I highly recommend it.
Mike Laverman (Lava)
Outstanding! We had fun building the caboose. Walking through the train cars was a true blast to the past!
John Larsen
Surprisingly good museum, don't judge a book by its cover the place is way bigger on the inside :)
Teresa and Ed Pridmore
Our large, including children, has a wonderful time taking pictures 📸 and exploring the exhibit. I hope to make time to return each visit to Omaha. …
Carrie Hansen
The Mandela exhibit was just SO GOOD. Also enjoyed walking through the train cars with a very knowledgeable docent.
Lily White
I love the different quarterly displays, and I never get tired of the trains!
Heidi Rehmer
It was so much more than I expected. Loved all the exhibits. Walking through the train cars was awesome. There was a retired RR worker/volunteer that told us about the train cars. Very knowledgeable. Thank You!
Chelsea Christensen
Very cool space with tons of information - some more interesting than others, but good variety of exhibits. Climbing through the old trains was fascinating and reading about the impacts of the railroad on the history of Omaha. The old soda fountain was definitely worth checking out as well!
Jeff Huston
Museum chronicling history of Omaha set in the beautifully restored Union Station. Includes a delicious authentic soda fountain with phosphates to sundaes. The museum is a Smithsonian affiliate which leads to it's hosting interesting travelling exhibits as well.
N Borg
Attended a wedding on 12/14/17. Beautiful venue, stunning couple, awesome museum. They rented the entire building and everyone enjoyed seeing the exhibits, attending the wedding, cocktails, dinner and dance... magical! The 40+ foot Christmas tree...wow!
Jamie Miller
I absolutely love the history here. Every time I come here I love Omaha more! The exhibits are always so interesting and educational. My toddler loves it too. Such a valuable family-friendly museum!
Kristine Cornman
The Nelson Mandela experience was amazing, moving and so apropos of our struggles right now to keeping our democracy and equality. We will need another like him.
Mark Durante
A great museum based on the American train history as well as our westward expansion. I like that you get to climb through all the trains and see all of the exhibits up close. My kids love this place. They also have a traveling exhibit that changes every couple of months. Usually these exhibits are pretty good, but I can't say that for all of them. "History of cinematic clothing" I'm looking at you
Dominic Bilotta
$11.00 for adult tickets, very good price for the quality and quantity of the exhibits. The are partnered with the Smithsonian and had a very cool history of voting exhibit. A couple interactive displays. They had a bunch of cool train stuff also. Worth the cost of admission+ in my opinion.
Kevin Andrews
We went to see the Politics and Rock exhibit. It was great - displays were interesting and informative. Over against the EMP in Seattle, this was well curated. Just enough to enjoy and not feel overwhelmed or frustrated by a dearth of artifacts. My wife is an educator and we both agreed that the rest of the museum was inviting to kids and a great place to take the whole family. It is a treasure.
Bonnie Watkins
They are very kind and caring about help the ones that are handicapped. It was so enjoyable.
A Crowd of One
Very nice displays. You can get a feel for the history of Omaha. There are some interactive displays. I really enjoy looking at the photos and comparing them to current views.
I would like to see some film of Union Station during it's hey day. I think that would give a better idea of how important Omaha was in the Transcontinental rail network.
brandi anderson
The exhibits are always wonderful. It is very clean inside and the staff is very friendly/helpful. I look forward to going.
AJ W
Places like this make me wonder what it will be like in the future when gas stations and airports are museums.
Toriel Dreemurr
Unfortunately, I did not take any photos. I visit this place often, and love it. I love the timely looks of this museum. Depending on your tastes, this museum grabs your attention in a cool way. The art isn't how you'd expect it. The art is rather interactive and interesting. If you don't understand, this museum has a old timely stores with plastic food. It is set up in a way that makes it obvious it's from older times. There are either one or two trains that you can explore on. I will be visiting here the next time I feel like using hands-on art.
Ashley Coats
Great museum! Prohibition exhibit going on until 2017 was excellent. Loved the old trains. My 7 year old was being impatient with some of the areas (she loved the trains and wanted spend the whole time there) and I didn't get to read as much I liked. You could easily spend the day here.
Colby Co
Great example of days gone by. Volunteers were friendly and informative. Kids loved the trains and the soda fountain.
Keith Lee
I very nice historical museum under the Grand Central Station. Being an outsider there was so much to learn. From the beginnings of Omaha City, through Omahas different stages. A nice array of railroad, main businesses at the times, the floods etc. Mangelson photography was also on display. Awesome photos. Had a great time and the Station is absolutely beautiful. It was nice learning about the 1902 Worlds Fair. You will like it.
Cliff Gorans
Heroes gallery is awesome and love the train
Jim McWilliams
This is the place to visit if you want to know Omaha. Vintage train and train cars you can walk through, a real train station from the 40's to see and touch. Special exhibits, live performances. We watched then visited with Teddy Roosevelt, and he was so convincing that you could swear you had slipped back in time. Even a train station diner to enjoy lunch in. Great place to take the whole family.
Athena Grace
Lots of fascinating history about the railroads, Native Americans, settlers, founding of Omaha, etc. Definitely recommend allocating at least 4 hours if you want to see everything.
seemel8er creek
There were so many things to see! We especially enjoyed the dinosaur exhibit. Interactive displays kept the kids interested. Our family really enjoyed our visit here. The staff was very welcoming and helpful!
Vincent Gaines
Nice place to learn about Omaha and Nebraska's history. This older train station has full size locomotives indoors that you can walk through. Well worth the $8 fee. Perfect for a 2 hour tour before getting back on plane. Is only 10 minutes from airport.
Bobby C
Awsome! We loved it lots of history and my kid loved the trains, its a must to see
Teresa Steffensmeier
So much fun! Lots of great exhibits and the James Cameron is a must see!!! My family loved our time there. Would definitely go back again.
The Lord Runge
Great museum me and my family went, but there where several several tour groups going through as well,, we felt very rushed by them. We didn't feel like we got to take it all in because of that.
Charles Sanger
This is a great museum to stop by when in Omaha. The pictures online don't do it justice. As soon as you walk in, you are transported to the art-deco age. The architecture is amazing. The museum collection is impressive. One of my favorite parts was being able to navigate through several train cars that are maintained in original condition. The soda fountain on the main floor has a great menu. Recommend the strawberry shake!
Melissa Olsen
Really neat stuff! Could have stayed all day reading.
Jake
A wonderful museum about the history of Omaha.
Josh Brown
The building is beautiful, the exhibitions are alright but the curitorial vision is all over the place. The permanent displays are interesting to me because I am generally interested in Omaha history, but if you aren't this isn't the place for you.
Danica Wood
Excellent museum. Very pleasantly surprised at the amount of exhibits. The model train and train cars were very enjoyable. James Cameron exhibit is here temporarily and it was also very interesting.
terri mackeogh
Top notch trip to the past! The Guitar Exhibition is striking!
Flower Girl
I enjoyed visiting The Durham Museum and learning about the early days of Omaha. The museum is located in the lower level of Union Station; which is a beautiful building just by itself and worth seeing. My admission price was $11.00. I purchased a hot dog lunch at the original cafe inside Union Station. It was not very good but only cost around $5.00. I would suggest you eat ahead of time. I leisurely walked around and spent a couple of hours. You could tour the museum faster and still enjoy it. I didn't read everything, so it could also take longer. You have the ability to roam freely at your own pace. They have exhibits from early living through modern times. Covered wagons, a real train to walk through, and vintage vehicles are also on display.
Dea Hoover
Amazingly thorough Museum about the life of and on railroads.additionally, they had amazing slices of Americana and rooms set up as they would be during a particular era. You can spend a good two hours here if you visit all the floors and read all of the information. One of the most interesting things to me was an old Sears & Roebuck catalog selling everything including live baby chicks shipped to your address! It was on display inside a home recreation and you are allowed to turn the pages to look through it. I imagine people under 30 may have never seen one of these come to their home as I did as a child in rural America.
Nong Ch.
It is a great educational museum. You can learn a lot of Omaha history.
Kyrie Payton
It's a nice local museum, great for kids. They do regular events and special exhibits. It's great for kids especially if they like trains. When I went once of the special exhibits was closed and the miniature train set needs maintenance. Overall a fun thing to do. It's also nice to visit the old style soda shop in the building.
Tony Staub
An Omaha landmark from the day when rail ruled the country turned museum. This building is amazing, it is unmatched in the city in terms of architecture. They have done a good job of keeping the old time charm where it counts and adding modern additions where it makes sense. The museum takes you on an interesting trip through Omaha history.
Verl & Joan Squire
Great place to get a feel of the history of Omaha. Many interesting exhibits. Usually bring in a new exhibit every 3 or 4 months. Love standing in the union pacific train station and feeling all the history.
Kassie Hanson
Such a wonderfully clean and beautiful museum! I've gone to a wedding here before, and it was so classy!! As a museum I appreciate the wide hallways for kids to explore and the trains are so fun! Definitely a fan!
Nathan Meyer
Very awesome place to visit. Many things to learn about. I would definitely come back again.
Daniel Dutton
I love this place. Its brimming with history and so much information about the area. The architecture of the building is amazing. It literally feels like you've stepped into 1945. Christmas time is especially beautiful with the giant tree and all of the family oriented events. This is a great place.
Governor Drago
So I was there for a job interview but the place has been an Omaha Staple since before I was born. Many childhood memories for my brother and I were made there. I plan on going back as a guest in the very near future.
Amanda Smith
It's a great museum with lots to see and do. There were some great hands on materials for the little ones. At times I felt over stimulated with the amount of materials on display. I also felt it didn't have a good flow through the museum. I felt that I was jumping from area to area with no clear pathway through each exhibit. Overall a great place to spend a couple hours!
Wade Kapanke
This is a great Museum. There is a ton of local history with this old train depot. The gift shop is set up in the old ticketing booth and the soda fountain still sells old-style sodas. It was a lot of fun. There was a really nice display about World War I and the Nebraskan who fought in that war. There was also display about Tom Mangelsen and his photography. It was amazing. Thank you Durham Museum!
LeClara Gilreath
I seriously LOVE this place. Great permanent exhibits along with wonderful traveling exhibits. Full of information and history. Great staff and volunteers. The soda fountain and candy shop is both adorable and delicious!
Jay J
I was able to check out the new guitar exhibit recently. Every time my and family go to the Durham Museum we are always walking away happy! Such a fabulous place to go!
Frank Estaniqui
Really enjoy all of the exhibits every time I would visit the Durham. All of the visiting displays that tell pieces of history from various slices of time are added bonuses for me.
Thom Mullinaux
Came for the Jim Hensen exhibit, it was well arranged and the staff very nice, working very well with my kids. Train exhibit was fun and the Indian exhibit interesting too. Next time, I want to try the soda fountain!
Fatima A
If you want to learn more about the history of Omaha and how railroads made a difference in transporting goods and materials through out the US including Nebraska, then is a place to visit. It's a kid and family friend place and they have interesting exhibitions going on. I love the art deco and that they have a mini dine/candy and pop store inside. I also like how they have a display train that you can walk through the rail cars and see the train decor has changed through the decades. Will have to pay another visit soon!!
Mike M
Just moved to the area, family that used to live here recommend we all go and check it out. It is a neat little museum about the history of the Omaha/council bluffs area, cool retired trains to go thru a huge win with kids and memories for older members of the family.
Will definitely go back, would like to read more in this place. Cool recovered treasure exhibit. Easily made an inexpensive day trip, and new market with in walking distance for entertainment, shopping and dinner
Volha Siarheichyk
A must visit place for those who love trains! Lots of interesting things to see. There are train hosts who can guide you through the train and explain it's history. Plus they have an old fashioned soda fountain and candy shop with yummy root beer float.
Kennie Reeves
Very cool place to check out when you visit Omaha. Loved seeing all the historic train cars and what places used to look like and how everyone lived back then. My daughter, who is 12, loved every minute of being there as well.
Katie Marie Daly
Review from my 9 year old. We love to go to this friendly place to hang out and learn new fact. There is lots of detailed and educational exhibits like the Egyptian and Pirate. The employees here always have a smile on there face when we come in.
Rachel S
I was here for wedding reception, and it was one of the best receptions I've been too. The building itself is classy and elegant, the space was large enough to comfortably accommodate several hundred guests including catering, a bar, and dancing, and there was free access to the train museum exhibits! If you're in Omaha, I strongly recommend coming here.

One of my favorite buildings in town. Beautiful decor mixed with memorable exhibits makes this must visit. We get a family membership every year which is well worth the price (pretty cheap). They also have a small restaurant and traveling exhibits, a photo archive, annual events and a lot more.

We had our wedding here and everything was absolutely amazing! The staff was super helpful and very responsive to any questions we had. Everything went off without a hitch! So grateful this historic landmark was such an important part of our lives. Thanks to everyone there for making it so special!

Love the old station. Walking thru the train was a wonderful experience. Sat and talked with one of the volunteers for a bit. He was friendly and knowledgeable about the building and trains. Dinosaurs exhibit was also pretty good!

Love this museum! Great local history and rotating interactive exhibits! I was disappointed however with the last few exhibits. They were difficult for wee ones to comprehend and the current one, while the concept is fantastic, could have been much more interactive and hands on.

This is such a fun museum. I love learning about the rich history of Omaha and Nebraska along with checking out the trains and all the fun things for kids too. My 4 year old niece had a great time!

A fantastic historical adventure for all ages, with a permanent a permanent section and limited time installation making the trip will often yield something new. Train lovers this is a must visit museum for you.

Nice museum in downtown Omaha. Has great historical facts about the history of the city. The current exhibit about James Cameron's work underwater is really cool!

Eclectic fun displays, with something for everyone.

Wonderful museum! Great experience. Lots of things for children to see and do as well. Recommend getting a yearly membership because you're going to want to come back many times.

I always love visiting the Durham around Christmas. The giant christmas tree is splendid. Their exhibits are always changing up and an interesting mix of science, history and photography. The price of a membership is fairly reasonable. They also have an old fashioned soda bar to eat at for lunch which the kids go nuts for. The only downside is that like the rest of downtown Omaha, parking is scarce.
