This is an awesome place and a real gem in the city of Omaha. Not many cities of similar size can claim to have a venue of such nice spaces and pieces of art.
Many of the galleries are situated connecting to the main courtyard. In the middlle of the courtyard you'll find a beautifully tiled fountain and greenery. This means you can hear running water from most places in the main gallery, a great little design feature.
They don't have a ton of stuff but what they do have is well curated and we'll presented. Among the highlights are paintings from Monet, ancient Greek vases, some excellent Asian statuary and a large wooden screen that's been intricately carved and lacquered. The American galleries are excellent as well. I also don't want to leave out the early American Western stuff, including Navajo beadworks.
The galleries themselves are neat spaces featuring solid colors with a couple feet of marble at the base, different in every room.

Was a fun museum. I loved the blown glass and the Indian beaded art! Glad I got to see it before they close for 2 years.
Brian Kong
Great museum to spend a day with family. Spectacular architecture. Marvelous collection of art from different times and regions. Not too big, not too small. Perfect to spend a day to appreciate the collection. Museum also offers place where children can draw, craft, and express their imagination through interactive stations.
Jackie Goeppner
The Joslyn Art Museum is the gem of Omaha. Currently, entry is free due to a gracious grant. They have an outstanding collection with pieces from the antiquities to modern artists. They also have examples from world renown artists such as DeGas, Pollock, Rembrant, Warhol, The Grecian Omaha Painter, and countless others.
***Please note, the Joslyn will be closed for a two year construction and renovation project starting May 2, 2022.***

I really enjoyed my time at this museum. I like how a lot of that artwork had written descriptions. The art works section, which I believe is designed for children, was very great as well. Very interactive.
Peace Nlekwuwa
It’s a really good place for art lovers. Although a bit redundant in some sections. It’s overall not a bad place to go, not sure most people would like to go twice unless there’s a special exhibition.
Ryan Lenhart
This museum is fantastic! The art is well organized and documented, the building itself is gorgeous, and admission is free. The quality of the pieces will stun you. This is perhaps my favorite stop in Omaha, highly recommended.

It is amazing museum.. very clean and well maintain..
Abit of history from Wikipedia
The Joslyn Art Museum is the principal fine arts museum in the state of Nebraska, United States of America. Located in Omaha, it was opened in 1931 at the initiative of Sarah H. Joslyn in memory of her husband, businessman George A. Joslyn. It is the only museum in the state with a comprehensive permanent collection, and although it includes works from Paolo Veronese, El Greco, Titian, among others, its greatest strengths are the outstanding art collections of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries of American and European artists such as Pierre-Auguste Renoir and William-Adolphe Bouguereau.

FANTASTIC, FREE ART MUSEUM. This is a beautiful Art Museum in Omaha, Nebraska. Due to Covid, reservations need to be made online, which was very easy. The original museum was built in 1931, thanks to Mrs. Sarah Joslyn in honor of her husband, George Joslyn. Subsequent additions were made over time, resulting in a large, modern Art Museum. We spent 2.5 hours at the Museum, and enjoyed every minute. The Museum is beautiful, clean and has a lot of staff available to assist visitors. Another vital staff function is to monitor for visitor compliance with wearing masks for Covid- this is strictly enforced. The Museum Cafe and Gift Store are currently closed due to Covid. WELL WORTH A VISIT!

The architecture of the building is great. Perfect small museum so close to Creighton. Garden really nice in front and sculpture garden too.
Phillip Seidl
This is truly a gem... The museum itself is a work of art: Attractive, unique in style, and set in a peaceful lovely and inviting garden of sculpture and flora, like a diamond high up along Dodge street. You feel drawn in to see more. And you find yourself welcomed upon entry. There is plenty to see but not to the point of overload. Very enjoyable and eye- opening!
Ian Goehring
If you have the eager for learning history and looking at Art,then this is the place for you. A place to bring yourself and family, and or even friends. A place to really take your time and intake all the vast amazing history and Art. The place has been around since 1931 and has had a plethora of knowledge ready to be digestive.
Ann Games
Super cool place to explore outside. Enjoyed the variety of sculptures and the ambience in the gardens. Confused why discovery park didn’t have signs that said “do not climb on sculptures” but then we were reprimanded for climbing....and in a place called discovery park that was seemingly for children to...discover? Regardless, we mostly enjoyed our experience!

This is a gem of a museum. The impressionist room in the back corner is really quite remarkable. The modem art part was not that great, but then I have been to the Tate in London. But the other half of the museum is amazing for a place it's size. They have pieces that I wasn't expecting. Also, they have a really outstanding interactive children's area (you don't have to be a kid to enjoy it.) They also have an area with books and interactive backpacks that you can check out to really learn about at work your family or kids. I highly recommend this museum.
Tarra Steele
Relaxing and beautiful works of art. Although not much of it... we really enjoyed the glass art and the fountain. They have a great kids area where little ones can draw and create there own art. We will be back! Outside is great place for a picnic
Nathanael Mena Mijangos
A magnificent building with art deco details house a wide rang of sculptures, painting, and more!
You must see the current traveling gallery of Currier & Ives, highlighting early american art.
Michiel Buitelaar
Beautiful. Small. Free. Varied. Quiet. Friendly.
Impressive building, not really big. Architecture 👍🏻. Art nice, some of it very good. Not a lot. The expo on hunting & fishing is quite traditional. The modern and American-Indian art is really good and interesting. As is the sculpture garden.
The place was extremely quiet, Sunday noon. Nice. Friendly staff. No access fee.
European art not available. Bit of a downer.

Beautiful Museum with some amazing exhibits! Well curated exhibit space with a real Midwestern lens.
Some regional culture doesn't always feel completely welcoming to diverse social groups but the space itself does well at overcoming the social barriers with a welcoming smile and knowledge staff

I stopped in on a Friday afternoon. Free admission. The staff was very nice & asked if I had visited before which I told him I did not. He then explained everything on the map & really made me feel welcomed. The exhibits were great. I am so happy I had the time to visit while passing through Omaha.
August Rudisell
We did an amazing outdoor yoga class in the courtyard area. Thankfully I checked their website last night. Tickets to the museum itself were free - you just have to preregistration which was super simple. The pink stone (not sure what) is so beautiful and the entire campus is constructed using it. Such a great way to spend a couple of hours downtown. And honestly the high school directly East of this museum deserves some time too: it is over 150 years old and is such a beautiful example of 19th century design, construction, and building materials.
James Poulos
Beautiful museum that feels like the visitors are LOVED. Art is presented in a very comfortable environment and is easy to interact with. Beautiful collection overall as well as Degas, Rodin And others.
David Miles
A beautiful, impressive, and quality art museum. Fantastic permanent collection displayed in a monument to art-deco architecture.
It's hard to beat the free admission to a most impressive high art collection. The building itself is worth the visit alone.
The staff is courteous and friendly. You can elect a move-at-your-own-pace self-guided tour. The placards provide good information on each piece to help you get the most or of your visit.
Non-flash, non-professional photography is allowed, so bring your phone and snap away.
Kevin Keller
What a great hub of culture right near downtown O. The people are friendly and welcoming with a cheerful spirit. The art is both moving and inspiring. I'm sad I didn't visit sooner and hope to return many more times. The facilities are clean and the building will organized. It's a good place to visit alone, with friends, or for the whole family. Enjoy!
Marjie Van Der Laan
Wonderful art museum with ample parking, great location and beautiful facilities. Excellent descriptions of pictures with explanations of artist, era and style. Friendly staff and a very tasty lunch menu. Highly recommended!
Ihor Zeiger
Amazing art museum with great collection
Sonny Nutz
The art was beautiful and for a free museum I can't see where anyone would complain. There are areas that you pay if you'd like to enter but we didn't go through those so I guess that's something to consider for others.
Irving
The museum is great. It is spacious and art is spread out nicely. I like that it contains great lighting and attentive staff. It is not an all day place to go, so a couple hours shall suffice. It contains a great variety of American art work. The shop is nice and has some unique things.
Sherrianne Connelly
Beautiful art deco building, lots of wonderful works. They have a few Montes that are just awesome. Lots of beautiful pieces. A room dedicated to American artists. Native American beadworks and neat western themed pieces. Neat place and free to enter.
Kaitlin Costello
This is the place to check out all of the Mid Century Modern architecture.
What a wonderful free asset to our community.
Closing soon for renovations. Go check it out!
Xavier Ringo
The Joslyn is a great place to walk around, spend time with family, and relax - all while enjoying a bunch of very cool art. Admission and parking are completely free of charge; occasionally there are special exhibits which require payment to see however. There are paintings and sculptures from a variety of renowned artists, new and old. Located right next to downtown Omaha, it's a great place to visit.
Erika Ortiz
Such a mesmerizing place and great art selection. We simply loved their design and selections of art. Kids even were able to be picassos in the kids art center.
Rachel McDonald
An INCREDIBLE collection of fine art available to the public FREE of charge. Helpful, kind people. This is a treasure which should not be overlooked. It will be closed at some point in 2022 for renovations, so check the website.
Brittany Lundstrom
Always a nice place to visit and the different exhibits are always great to see. Really enjoyed it.
Maisie
The Joslyn Art Museum did not disappoint! Their galleries were absolutely amazing and they have descriptions of every art period and style printed on the wall in each gallery for extra information if you want to brush up on your facts or don't know a lot about a certain form of art. They have a café that that had fruit, drinks, sandwiches, soups, and even a vegan bowl. The staff are super friendly and even though the building was going through some construction, you never noticed it from the inside because they kept everything crisp and clean.
Sunil Bolisetty
Love this place. It's very neatly managed and maintained. I have learnt so much about European, Asian and American art. Some of the exhibits would mesmerize everyone. If you plan to go there make sure you spend enough time to go through all of the art as there is plenty.
The staff were very friendly and helped me and my family
Gail Jones
Beautiful museum & lovely grounds to walk around with kids.
Definitely recommend visiting!
Buy tickets online & in advance due to COVID-19 precautions.
Nali Yan
There are amazing buildings and collection even though Nebraska is called the middle of nowhere.
Especially, having Guido Reni's "David with the Head of Goliath, c. 1605" is unbelievable.
The original building, Joslyn Memorial is made of pink marble and extremely beautiful and overwhelming.
Additionally, restrooms are well cleaned.
Alison
We had an amazing time seeing such beautiful art. The grounds and building are gorgeous. It is free to enjoy.
The children area on the lower level was the highlight of our trip.
Gloria Robinson
Let's begin by IT'S FREE! Omg I've never been to a place where time flies by and you learn, have fun, enjoy art and take great pictures all at one place for free. ((You can make donations and pay for specific art expositions that are worth the money)) We spend around 4 hrs!! The kids ALL(15,14,10 and 5) enjoyed everything. We made memories to remember. This is a place to add to your visit to Omaha.
Maddie Parker
Absolutely beautiful wedding venue. I do want to caution you if you are looking at booking this venue that they have a lot of echo. The acoustics are pretty bad. None of my family or friends could hear the ceremony or a bulk the speeches. STILL - this was an incredible venue and it was an absolute dream for my husband and I.
Amanda S
Beautiful museum and most of it is free for visitors. They have a really well curated collection and the staff and really pleasant. Don't leave Omaha without stopping by here and walking around a bit.
John Potter
Lovely variety of art. Small, not as great at KC. but lots of stuff to look at. They have a variety or changing art and currently a new British showcase
Marcos Alvarado
There is nice art gallery to explore and the architecture itself inside the museum is worth admiring. The majority of the museum is free there are no excuses to not visit the museum.
Micheal Walburn
Was a great experience. This is my first time going there. However we we're just about done, we we're walking through the contemporary exhibit when the employee walking through that area told me that backpack aren't allowed. He was the first and only person to call me out. There were multiple curators that have walked past us not calling me out for it. There were also no signs saying that backpacks weren't allowed. Besides that was a wonderful place to be.
Christina Whalen
Super easy to navigate, very educational displays and very beautiful artwork. It is smaller than other art museums but all the workers seemed judgemental and hovered around everyone in exhibits which was uncomfortable.
Jennifer Moeller
I have always loved the Joslyn. It's one of the most beautiful buildings I've ever been in, and it's FREE! The collections are small but fascinating. Will be going back!
Minju Lee
The art was so cool!! I had a great time viewing the artworks and the architecture of the building was beautiful as well. The gift store is nice and pretty. The kid’s area was a pretty fun place to play around in.
Jeff Cherrington
A quality fine art museum in the mud west. Two first rate Chihulies at opposite ends of main atrium. I am very find of the permanent exhibition. Frequent good, well curated temp exhibitions.
Rob Bradshaw
Love the collections at the Joslyn. Friendly, helpful staff. Make sure you see the central fountain, and brimg change for wishes. Would be a 5 star, but it does not really have much replay ability. Collections dont change.
pezdisc
Excellent art museum! Very fun to walk around viewing the exhibits. You can't beat the price as well, free! I really liked the children's section where you could practice art yourself. What a great way to bring art to life.
Lee Shontell
A place to go again and again, especially with children. Loved looking at the art pieces in every room, especially the painting that have the realistic and bold eyes. The kiddos will enjoy creating art and movies in the Creative Lab. A must visit in Omaha. No general admission price exspect for special exhibits but donations are appreciated.
thelizbiz
I love going to the Joslyn. The fountain area is definitely my favorite. I like that there are water features outside too. Always worth stopping to see the Chihuly glasswork!

My restless spirit sent me searching for something to do on a gloomy and later, rainy day. A drive to Omaha, NE to visit the Joslyn Art Museum was needed.
The fascinating Art Deco exterior of the building is constructed of Georgia Pink marble. Inside you will find many pieces that are part of private collections and those belonging to the Art Institute of Omaha and the Friends of Art. The general admission is free with the exception of special exhibits which a fee is charged. Currently, Bijoux Parisiens, French Jewelry from the Petit Palais, Paris is being shown until September 10, 2017.
Two of my favorite pieces in the exhibit were the Amethyst and gold jewelry set (1820-1830) of chiseled gold that looked like delicate flower cups, and a bracelet (1875) with painted enamel panels of an ancient Greek procession based on the Parthenon sculptures in Athens.
With so many halls to choose from, I decided on the Art of the American West/19th Century, Neoclassicism & Romanticism and Impressionism. To look upon the work of Daniel Ridgeway Knight, Paul Cornoyer, Thomas Hill, Monet, Degas and Mary Cassatt is amazing. To view the brushstrokes, feel the sense of movement and purpose that each artist intended, is a joy.
The Joslyn Art Museum is like a small jewel case. It’s filled with priceless treasures that offers a little something for anyone.
Overall. There is a café on the premises but was very busy so I was not able to try it out. The Hitchcock Museum Shop is well organized and offers an eclectic collection of scarfs, totes, books, posters, journals, children’s toys as well as other items for purchase.
Theresa Bochnicek
I loved coming here as a teenager. I take my kids here to learn about the history of art and see some great work. But it's also nice so that when the kids have hit information overload they can play in a kid friendly area.
Amanda Bright
Free! This place is free. They have a few incredible pieces and some of the friendliest docents I've ever witnessed. We went on Easter and had the place virtually to ourselves which made for a very magical day. It's also not so enormous that you're overwhelmed and can't take it all in. We made it through most everything in a couple hours and left content. Can't wait to go again when the European wing opens again (May 20).
Devon Colby
I have been to the louvre several times as well as the smithsonian and several other internationally acclaimed art museums but this one, by far, has the most incredible display of magnificent artwork I have ever seen including one titled The King of Rome (pardon, I can't italicize it). This art, along with every other piece inside the museum made for the most memorable and certainly the most spectacular art museum visit I have ever had.
Tyler Brinkman
As a museum, Joslyn is stunning. We hosted our wedding reception in the atrium and could not have been more happy with the event. Working with James was an absolute pleasure - his attention to detail, prompt communication, and experience in coordination was much appreciated. The event space turned out better than we could have expected,. Everyone from local to out of town guests enjoyed themselves and had nothing but great things to say.
Steven Sanchez (Mrguitarman8000)
Beautiful, wonderful, beautiful people here. Making art with Cyrus was a highlight of my day. His affectious love of art!!! amazing glow on his face. Seeing art at all levels was like meeting a unicorn the first time. You walk around and look at the paintings and one will reach out to you. You will stand in awe ❤️.
Holly Vinson
Took my 3 and 4 year old and they loved it. One been in 1 museum when I was young so I was a little lost going in. Could spend hours in the children's center. Definitely going back
Kim Noseworthy
This museum never fails to impress. I love that this is a Thanksgiving tradition. The Jackson Pollack is my favorite, but the quilt display was amazing!!
Tiffany De Leon
We went to see The Christmas Story and met Zach Ward and Scott Schwartz. This was a cancer transplant fund raiser for Childrens Hospital. Awesome guys who were a part of a classic movie there to help others. We also had a peak of the museum. We will be back to to indulge in the art. Just the aura of being there was amazing.
Curtis Hauge
This place has a lot for your money, which was free! It has contemporary art pieces all the way to renaissance era paintings and BC era artifacts. I was blown away to see Jackson Pollock, Monet, and even Rembrandt all in the same place! To have an opportunity to see this in the plains states is such a treat!
Kurt Goetzinger
Beautiful museum with magnificent artwork. A true treasure for our great city.
Jessica Parker
Awesome place to visit and see different styles of art. You can see anything from abstract to statues.
Leonor Soberanis
This museum is incredible!! Beautiful building and a marvelous exhibits .I would recommend to everyone visit the museum.
Tim Colling
Wonderful museum in a stunning Art Deco structure. A real feather here n Omaha’s cap.
Stephenn Quaglia
Visited a few years ago. Worthwhile though small. Now expanding into exciting quarters designed by Norwegian firm. Much more space and light. Must
follow up when open. I think by 2023 end.
Marianne Meliora
Great all around! Admission is free, different art periods and styles in the collection. The grounds outside and the gift shop were all nice to visit as well. I enjoy visiting regularly!
Timothy Wilson
I've been there many times over past 35 years or so and always enjoy it!
Today I was out on a father daughter date with my 10 year old. We had a good time and we talked about the paintings, art, and history. In the past she was too young to enjoy it and always got board but now she is coming around. :)
Encourage your kids to learn and grow and appreciate what is around them! So many things to see and learn!
John Rea
Pretty decent sculptures and free to the public. The kids can run around in the fountain that has a miniature Missouri River. Some sculptures are anatomically correct.
Ashley Bartel
The kids loved the Childrens Art Rom! Lots of different activities to let their creative minds fly!
Bryce Caster
Beautiful historic art museum in the middle of downtown Omaha with FREE admission!
The museum is much smaller than most cities' art museums (it still takes at least an hour to go through everything). However, it has a very nice mix of art from many different periods and the art that they have on display is of the highest quality.
Duck Chan
Absolutely spectacular art museum. Very large. Loved the outdoor gardens.
Rachel Wilder
The Joslyn Art Museum is outstanding. While in Omaha for a conference, I visited the museum with low expectations. I was vastly and pleasantly surprised. The Pollock must be viewed in person to have any hope of perceiving it. The Art of the American West, I was wholly won over to that style of painting. I have traveled very far to see museums with collections that oddly left me cold (San Francisco, for example. Or, dare I admit, the Prado). Joslyn is worth the visit. It's been 15 years and I think of it still.
Katherine Holding Eagle Turner
Excellent Karl Bodmer Exhibition of watercolor paintings of Mandan, Hidatsa, Arikara, Omaha, Ponca etc.
megan bequette
Had such a great time! We love going to see the artwork and exhibits. The kids love the kids area, and I've been a huge fan of the glass art that curtains in front of the large windows. Sad it'll be closed for so long, but excited to see how everything looks after!
cody opp
An amazing cultural experience right here in Nebraska. We have had the opportunity to see everything from the Old Masters to Andy Warhol. The Dale Chihuly installation is just plain awe inspiring.
Timothy Morgan
A nice indoor and outdoor museum that provides a great value for what you get. I enjoyed walking around and it is at the end of the city. Was great to walk through the city and end my day here. Would recommend. Felt like it was money well spent.
Miss McCoy
Wonderful experience. Not only educational but fun and entertaining.
B. MIchael McFarland
Spectacular museum with a really good collection in a beautifully-designed building. While not a fan of the new wing they are about to build, the main building is stunning, especially the courtyard. Throughout the museum are exhibits spanning the ages and filled with the masters as well as some lesser-known artists. We went for the sole purpose of attending a special Art Deco exhibit, but that exhibit was sadly not as large as I'd hoped it would be. Still, it was a very good exhibit. This museum is free, which makes it a great way for a family to spend a day. Take your time and walk through the entire thing, and don't miss the beautiful, once-private, wood-paneled room.
Kayla Kanta
Came here on a short visit to Omaha on Saturday. We had a lot of fun! We wanted to check out the Joslyn before the renovations start in May and I am so glad we did! It was a great way to spend the afternoon. The employees walking the floor were so kind we had a great conversation with one gentleman unfortunately I can’t remember his name. It is awesome how much beautiful art they have on display and for it to all be free it was awesome. The parking was a little rough but understandable with the beginning of renovations
Amelia Feit
Beautiful building full of wonderful treasures! Definitely worth the time to see everything.
Fabian Colmenares
Very entertaining art workroom and gallery. I loved the souvenir I found for my artist brother from the store.
sonof letterman
Best pink marble museum I’ve ever been to. If you don’t visit this museum, you are missing out.
Dalal Essa
The people there were very kind and welcoming. Because of COVID 19 they had constantly cleaning. The art pieces are interesting and spark good conversation.
Alex Williams
Hadn't been here in quite a few years, but we were in town to do some shopping and who can say no to free art. There were quite a few pieces that I remembered as they do have a permanent collection, but they always have new pieces and keep a wonderful curation, that even as someone with little to no knowledge of art, I can appreciate the time and thought that has gone into the selection and care of these works. The staff is incredibly kind and helpful, always happy to answer questions or maybe give a little more insight into the history of some of the works. Overall very happy we decided to stop by, especially since they will soon be closing for two years (2022-2024) for construction of an addition. The pictures of artist rendering and projected designs look stunning and I can't wait to re-visit to see both old favorites and new wonders.
Abdul Mackie
First rate museum. A must visit when in Omaha. Sunday's are free!
Tatiana Boland
The jewel of Omaha! Fantastic collection displayed in the beauty if the Joslyn its self. Even better it's free to get in (excluding special exhibits). Chihuly installation, Italian fountain, sculpture garden outside, and some iconic Midwestern art. Kids activities, cafe, theater, and a gift shop. Make a day of it!
Tom Scheller
Easily one of the best art museums I have ever been to. Examples from many of the old masters and modern alike. All in a beautiful 1930's art deco building that is an artwork in itself. If you admire art it is a must see and all for free.
Chris Magana
If you like a free museum then this is it. They have medieval to modern. Asian to native American. Lots to see! The building it self is also impressive.
Laura B
Beautiful museum!! The blown glass sculpture is incredible.
Vicki DeVoss
First visit to Joslyn Museum since I moved here during the pandemic. The Bodner Exhibit was very interesting with the docent explaining it well. The building is wonderful. I wish it weren't closing in May for 2 years to build the new addition but think it will only enhance what the museum offers. I recommend anyone make a visit before the closure.
Debby Leigh
Loved this place..has awesome artwork..the place is huge! And it's free!
Kashi_054
Great museum!! Lots of art and history.
damon peters
Extremely well done museum for such a small town. I highly recommend.

Robert Blackford
Beautiful oasis in the middle of Nebraska. Free entry. Great pieces of art.
Adam Fuehrer
Such a fun place to take kids. They loved Artworks so much!
Stefanie Williamson
We love this place every time we visit. The traveling exhibits are always interesting. Three entire place is amazing.
Sheree Hall
The building is art. The sculpture garden is delightful. It has a variety of art from many well known masters.
Dan Betz
This was a nice art museum. The staff were helpful and most of the displays were free. I think we spent about an hour wandering around.
Sophie Wang
Free museum with plenty to see! I love when an art museum is art itself; the history of this space is as wonderful as the artwork it houses. The exterior has a nice, public garden with some sculptures and water displays. Inside, there are contemporary photographs mixed with paintings from Impressionists to Asia and African artifacts. The museum is kept very clean and is generally quiet, so it’s easy to enjoy the details of each piece. Follow the signs and enjoy your time!
Peter Sabadosa
Two nice Chihuly's, Rembrandt, El Greco, Polock, Monet, many others. Many Western American and native American works. Large children's section. 4 stars as Polock was not on display. All for free and free parking. Must see if in town.
Sym S.V.
Perfect way to celebrate my son's 5th birthday.
Lisa Poulson
Everything about this museum is beautiful one of the best in Omaha
Mariah Masoner
Love this museum! I've been coming here since i was a kid and this place never ceases to amaze me! I do like that they have the same paintings so im familiar with it but they always bring in new cool stuff as well. Plus its free admission everyday for everyone unless you do the traveling exhibits. Worth taking your family and friends.
amy Hammond
This is a wonderful museum that is free, quiet, and has something for everyone. The kids area is extremely fun.
Fanny Behrens
The exhibition about western artists sketching Native American tribes was just not all that well curated. Everything was laid out quite densely and a letter sized plaque of information next to another letter sized sketch was exhausting to go through.
The permanent exhibition is great.
Jay
Always amazing exhibits here. If you love art you should visit. Haha!
Marilyn Kilmer
Lovely museum with a nice assortment of artists. We were greeted with a huge Chihuly glass sculpture. We visited the exhibition in St. Petersburg. The Joslyn is a treasure and admission is free. We found parking in their lot. We had hoped to have lunch there but the restaurant inside is closed until further notice. Only complaint is that signage inside could be better.
Angela Connolly
Enjoyed this museum! Was very kid friendly!
Wendy Burk
Free admission. Wonderful art museum. Worth the stop. The building architecture is beautiful.
jason thompson
We love joslyn, and go often, a must see in omaha.
Shania Wilkinson
Very beautiful and wide arange of artwork. Would definitely recommend to anyone remotely interested in the "art world"
Bryan Santee
Joslyn is a classy showcase for some great works of art. There's nothing negative to be said about this place ; the only thing that keeps me from giving 5 stars is simply a matter of my personal taste in art, but I love the atmosphere here, and do spend my fair share of hours here.
If you love art, you'll love Joslyn.... *please don't steal that line Joslyn 😉
Luba S
Free entry. Main entrance is temporarily closed because of construction. Great art collection. Beautiful fountain room downstairs. Often has exhibits from other museums for a fee. However, the main museum has free admission.
Breanna Philips
Small art museum housed in a gorgeous building with an impressive collection for a museum of its size. I was surprised to find two Monets. There’s also a Pollock, but it wasn’t currently on display for some reason. There were also some fantastic recent acquisitions. The museum is currently being renovated and expanded, so there will surely be more to come soon. Admission is free; they only charge for their rotating special exhibitions (currently, Art Deco). I didn’t have high expectations but was pleasantly surprised. Worth a visit if you’re in Omaha.
J. Hollinger
I love artworks and my kids had so much fun there!
Bhoodha S
Worth multiple visits as various exhibits pass through.
Nate
Recommend to travelers. Most of the museum is free then there is an additional specialty exhibit for cost. This place has some really unique artifacts and art.
Angela Thomas
Great place to bring kids, the activity room is so interactive and educational
Brandon Williams
The architecture and design is emaculate! Absolutely beautiful! Holding local and historical pieces of art, as well as many other sites and attractions the Joslyn Art Museum will keep people entertained and educated for many hours. For families, school, or dates I would highly recommend. 10/10
C. Kellen
Wonderful, Visiting from Tacoma, Wa. Loved the fountain area & glass display in the court yard. Area.
Sarah Calderón
This is a great place to experience a relaxing afternoon. The permanent exhibits can be enjoyed over and over again (I swear I see something new every time) and the exhibits that change out are always worth a visit. If you need to pick up a coffee table check out the gift shop. Oh! And you can enjoy a fantastic lunch at the cafe in the main entry, anytime!
Melissa Williams
Love all the hands on experiences for kids. We love going through each room individually and then talking about which piece was our favorite and why. And the free admission!
Kristin Kalskett
I loved the kids play room they have. They had a blast
Vickie Buettner
Too much to see in one day!! So much art in beautiful surroundings. Nice gift shop with many local artist's items for sale. Really enjoyed this beautiful building and especially enjoyed the Native American Indian artwork....clothing items, beadwork, and the educational writings on each individual piece.
Ben Mescher
Such a great museum, can’t believe it’s free admission. They do a good job making it fun for families too. Will be really cool when this current round of additions and construction is done.
Amanda Miller
Wonderful museum. It had a good mix of classic and modern art. No matter your taste you will find at least one piece that makes your heart take flight Be sure to take the time to explore the statues outside. They are delightful and worth the time even on cold dreary days.
We had a late lunch in the cafe. It was well prepared and the staff was delightful. I fell in love with a snow globe in the museum store. Sadly we could not take it on the plane. The store is shipping it to me for a very reasonable fee. I will update my review when it arrives in one piece.
Overall I could not be happier with the service and care all the staff showed. I loved that the museum is free, but you would never know it based on the quality of service and variety of art present. We only spent 24 hours in Omaha and I'm thankful 3 of them were at the museum.
Mallory Allen
Joslyn is wonderful! Neither my sister nor I are usually big fans of art or museums, but we went with a friend while in Omaha and were pleasantly surprised by how much we enjoyed wandering around this one. It's an absolutely beautiful building, very well maintained, tons to look at inside and outside, and it's FREE! Definitely a good place to check out if you're in town.
Sue-Ellen Haas
An unexpected surprise in Omaha! Beautiful works of art I enjoyed it immensely. I would have given 5 stars if I had known in advance that the Pollack was not on display. I was really looking forward to seeing it. A little blurb on the website would have been very much appreciated.
Philip Joy
Faces of the Interior exhibit is wonderful. Descriptions & stories posted alongside are interesting making this a memorable experience. Joslyn is closing for 2 years after this weekend.
K D Fountain
I attended “Bringing The Story Back” - Gerard Baker.
Tyler Korgol
Had a great time at the art museum. Kids are welcome especially on the lower floor. Great time and we enjoyed our time her.
Linda L Duehr
From the moment I walked in, I felt as if history had taken me in! The front desk person was very kind and so helpful! Loved every moment there!
Carly Greenfield
Going to the Joslyn is a great activity to do with friends or family. It's free of charge and a nice way to spend a few hours. They change up a few of the exhibits, so it's a little different each time. Fun thing to do if you're from Omaha or out of town.
Kelly Garman
Love love love the children's area! The entire family can inreract with art. It is a lot of fun, and gives a unique learning experience for children. My girls, 4 and 8 both enjoy all the activities they can do at ARTWORKS. And it's free which is always a plus. And after we play, we stroll around the museum, with so many beautiful art forms. There are many benches to rest at along the way.
M
If you're in the Omaha area. Maybe you like art ? Joslyn is definitely worth a look see. I'm looking forward to another visit to see what is new. I really enjoyed my walk around.
Can't remember the fee so that means it was more then fair.
Dornbusch Family
Beautiful place! Very helpful employees. Sadly the European area was closed for remodel. Can't wait to go again!
Heather Jordan
So much to see! So much to do! My 2-year-old spent a busy hour engaged in the fantastic art activities they offer, while the older children and other adults, in our party toured the museum. It's air conditioned, it's free, and it's fun. After we finished indoors, the children spent another half hour delightedly wading in the reflecting pool, while grownups enjoyed the nearby shade of an obliging tree.

Before you interact with a museum's contents, you first encounter their container. From the facade of the Memorial Building outside to the Fountain Court inside, Joslyn Art Museum keeps showing off how beautiful a container it has - a container of marbles. Impressively, the new Pavilion uses the same kind of marble and is seamlessly connected to the original building.
Having seen such striking architecture, it is hard to not develop high expectations for the contents. How does the art resonate with the building? Honestly, I was not entirely satisfied: the collection here is not encyclopedic and is relatively small. However, it still shows some diversity, and for the areas it covers, the objects are generally of very good quality. There is no shortage of big names in galleries of European paintings, and Greek potteries and the Native American exhibition also have interesting works.
This place is free, so you could come just to admire its architecture. Even though the permanent collection is not the most extensive, it is well worth seeing. Plus, interpretive labels are abundant and nicely written in general, which may add to your visiting experience.
Michael Salinas
Great architecture (original 1930s Art deco and Modern extension by Sir Norman Foster, first North American Building) & museum; fantastic amenity for a city this size. If you are looking for something to do, it's worth your time.
Denise Snyder
Very nice museum. 2 Monet's. Beautiful courtyard fountain. Great Sunday afternoon experience.
Brian K.
Great free museum. Not 100% my thing, but good to go as a family and see the art. Both historical and "modern" art to view. The Greek pottery was especially nice to see. Definitely worth a stop if you have some spare time
Doyle Brown
One of Omaha's greatest offerings. World class collection of Art and antiquities in their permanent collection, and Admission is free to local residents and their guests. Traveling exhibits on lend from museums and galleries from around the globe are also available for a nominal admission fee. Usually $10-20.
jacklyn Martin
The staff was wonderful and made sure we knew where to go and what to see. The guides, front desk, and gift shop were so friendly. We had a fun day.
Kendall Myers
The building itself was stunning. I can't believe I had never been here. The art was a nice collection that took a good few hours but didn't feel like it was too big to see everything. Can't argue with the free price. We did pay for the current special exhibit, 30 Americans. Had some very nice pieces and was a great addition to the museum.
JOHN Mareda
Great! Neat pictures.
J&LA Geocats
The last time we were here a group of us met in the parking lot for a geocaching event with our friend, BjarneJB, here from Norway. Several of us then decided to check out the Discovery Garden & other outdoor displays. Otherwise, we've only been here a few times: once with school, once on a boring winter day when it was too cold to do anything outside, & once for Jazz on the Green. Love this place!
Nate Y
This was my first time here in MANY YEARS...it was still amazing and beautiful. I really hope to go back soon and bring friends.
Eric Lum
Very large collection spanning many art styles over a large time period. Very impressive architecture and the museum is currently expanding with construction outside. Best of all, it's FREE!
Molly S
Love this place ❤️
I've been going here since I was a kid and I just love exploring every part of it. There have been loads of amazing temporary exhibits and permanent ones too! (Looking at you, Chihuly!)
Look into their website for awesome opportunities to go to events and participate in workshops. There's always something for everyone!
It's big enough to house some great art, but also small enough to leisurely look at everything within the day, or afternoon if you're a brisk walker
Matt C
Beautiful exhibit, well worth the time to visit.
Enjoyed the lay out and descriptions.
Quite and minimal people which is the way I prefer it.
Only negative is that we were approached by someone from a museum staff member who told us we were looking to closely at the painting, I understand but also we are regular visitors of galleries and this is the first time we have ever been 'scolded' for looking to closely
Jared Cummings
We had a great experience here. Absolutley beautiful building. The European art exhibits were pretty amazing. They also have American, Indian and Asian art exhibits that were all very good. Rotating exhibits come through as well. It is free so you should go check it out!
Cambria Rosales
I always enjoy exploring museums in the area.and a friend told me about this one instead we should go I am so glad we went. the main attraction for the day was on chairs but it was still a beautiful collection, and all the art was just breathtaking and I was able to go from one side of the building to the other and not realize it until the end in which I was so sad. Joslyn art museum is beautiful and I recommend it to anyone both with family or just young adult wanting to enjoy themselves to go.
Eisotopish
Beautiful installation from the Joslyn family. Worth paying for their premium exhibit when you go there. They are non-profit if I remember correctly. Being an art museum the last time we went their premium exhibit was the art of seating. Truly amazing and would return to any other premiums based upon this one.
Jeremy Skrdla
This place has some really neat exhibits. I love that it is free admission for most of the museum. However, if you have children, don't bother trying to take them to enjoy the art as someone will be constantly following you around and reminding you to step back if you are within 3 feet of the exhibit. They do have a kids corner where kids can play (with adult supervision).
Ralph BB
Absolutely love the Joslyn. The architect alone is amazing and when you go inside you’ll be amazed. The art work display gives a rich heritage on various subjects especially on Nebraska and the original indigenous population. If you’ve ever been to the Freemason temple in Holborn, London it gives the same vibe. A lot of the exhibits are also free to view a most go if your into art and are in the Omaha area.
Yaduraj C
Very nice exhibits. Amazing kids center that is very interactive for kids where you can make a movie, draw on screens, and have things for little ones. Would recommend going there if you are in the area. It's both an adult and kids art museum. Outside sculptures and pool for kids is good too. Very nice building architecture. Very friendly staff too.
bsizemore86
Great place to go alone or with a family or group. The children's area has many activities and projects to occupy young ones, and the other exhibitions are awesome as well. There is a free beverage area for coffee and water and lemonade and fun outside sculptures! Admission is free unless you want to see the rotating exhibitions.
Colin Conway
A huge grant has allowed everyone to enter the museum for free. However, traveling exhibits you’ll have to pay for. The front desk is super friendly, really good salad in the cafe, great room for kids to play with various educational art exhibits.
Rebecca Gronseth
Amazing **free** destination in Omaha! (Some exhibits are an extra admission price.) There's so much to see in this beautiful museum. The building itself is gorgeous, and the artwork inside is priceless. Family friendly environment too! There's a kids' zone downstairs (Art Works) that has lots of fun activities for kids of all ages with special emphasis on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math). Children can paint digitally, make videos with tablets, build forts, create self portraits, build with blocks, read in the cozy book nook, make the special craft/art project for the season, and more. This is the perfect place for a rainy day, but don't forget to head back during the sunshine for a look at the impressive sculptures on the grounds.
Naughty Buddha
Extremely rare art, Amazing staff and environment
Jennifer Whitenack
The whole family admired the beautiful art work on display. The blown glass exhibits are enormous! They are beautiful, eye catching pieces on both ends of the lobby. I loved the pottery collection as well. The boys thought the Art of Seating exhibit was interesting. Two thumbs up from the whole family.
Frank LaLonde
Went through the free exhibits, which featured a wide range of paintings. Took my family about 1.5 hours. Free parking was a plus.
Joe Noga
Loved it here! Not over crowded, plenty of great art, excellent facilities!
One word of caution:
Do not get too close to the art! I was pointing out some details of one particular piece to my son and a security guard approached from out of no where and said I needed to step away from the art. I had not touched it and I did not intent to do so, but he said there is a room where people watch the cameras (which I hadn't noticed before he mentioned them) and they told him I was getting too close! I appreciated that!
All in all, a fantastic experience! Highly recommended!
David Shriver
A gorgeous museum near downtown Omaha! The Joslyn features a large permanent collection of works, with an incredible collection of nineteenth and twentieth century American artists, and a beautiful sculpture garden. And best of all, general admission is free!
Tanya Rohloff
Beautiful museum and an there is also a neat area for kids
Danielle Oakes
This art museum has an eclectic sort of collections. We enjoyed ourselves in this enormous building, and loved the sculpture garden outside. Plenty of parking, free admission, and friendly service. Cute gift shop with many options to buy items inspired by the art in the museum. Large, clean bathrooms. Fun place to go in Omaha, especially on a rainy day.
Britney Davis
I love the art but the guided tour was boring and fruitless
Seth Springer
The pictures of this building don't do it justice. The architecture alone is a reason to go. There are plenty of exhibits to keep you there all day, but the layout also allows you to breeze through in a couple hours. Well worth the afternoon if you are in the area.
Jeffrey Hamilton
It is a nice museum, that offers free access to its general exhibits, but the charges for the special exhibits are quite high. They have a large floor space, but the number of items on display is not dense. The majority of the exhibits are paintings from various periods and a few things from other countries.
Nancy Hui
Beautiful, well kept museum. Best part is 95% is FREE. The other 5% would probably be for a new exhibition that just opened where you have the option to pay for that or just do the regular free area. It's also very large with many rooms and a cafe there for you to grab a bite so everything is very convenient. Staff at the front desk were very nice
Graham E
Arguably the most beautiful building in the city and it's free. The addition of the children's maker space makes this an ideal location for cold or rainy days. In the summer, we love to look at the artwork and walk through the pool in front. I've also attended a wedding here that was lovely.
Mary Hernandez
Beautiful, beautiful pieces, beautiful garden. This Museum features mid-western pieces, often undervalued by us of the mid-west. A commanding tribute. I took my year old daughter, accompanied by a friend and her 18 month son. The staff made me feel very comfortable with the children. I enjoyed the adult time and the honor of viewing these works (esp. Degas' Little Dancer!!), I will be saving time with the children for the Children's Museum--parenting museum-quietly and keeping little ones museum-mannered is exhausting! :)
Philip Earsley
This quaint museum offers locals a glimpse into different art styles and culture they may only see in books. Get out and pay the museum a visit and maybe it'll spark your own interest in visiting other places or help donate to keep the arts alive for generations to come.
Stan Smith
The last time I was here had to have been more than eleven years ago since that is how long it has been since my youngest daughter has been home to see her grandpa ... she really wanted to see the displays since she couldn't remember ever having seen them. She was not disappointed which is saying something since she's been to most of the major European museums. On a completely different level I was delighted to have a conversation with someone there about the efforts y'all are making to not use single-use plastic in your dinning area ... kudos for caring enough to take steps in the right direction.
Cassandra Keil
Definitely a go to! Need to get out of the house? This is a go to and they have an area for kids to get creative also! There is so much to see and do. They also have a cafe if you get hungry or need a snack. I took my two year old here and he enjoyed it just as much as I did!
Stephanie Powers
WOW!! Omaha has an impressive collection here. Chihuly glass, Rembrandt, Renoir, Monet, Warhol, even a Polluck!! Map was a little confusing but the room guides are very helpful.
Kevin Brennan
They have a lot of great exhibits. I really liked the Greek pottery and the Asian and Native American art located on the top level. Looked around the gift shop and it has some pretty cool stuff. I would also recommend bringing children here they have exhibits focused toward them and some are interactive
Kristine Docken
Got to see the Central High Singers at Joslyn just before Christmas! Wonderful venue to showcase these talented youngsters ❤
Bree
Very cool place to visit! We went during the immersive exhibition and it was so incredible! I would go again and again!
Phillip Smith
Surprisingly great collection! The building itself is impressive, the impressionist collection is astonishing!
victoria reidler
My 4 yr old daughter and I did the scavenger hunt. They gave us a page of emojis. As there are no emojis, we could only locate an item such as a candle but it did not have to look like the emoji. It made it so confusing to her. It would have been so much better to find specific paintings. The kids area was fun and we had a good time there. Overall it was a good time.
Shawn Sandlin (EvilBetty)
JUST GO! You won't regret it. The building is absolutely beautiful and a work of art itself! The courtyard in the main lobby is tranquil and relaxing with a large tiled fountain. The floor plan of the building is easy to follow. The art pieces they've aquired are diverse and well-chosen.
Me Myself
Looking forward to our next visit already! We could spend all day here, what a terrific way to spend an afternoon!
SP P
Half of the museum was closed for renovations which left very little to see. This would have been OK considering the free admission had some of the staff not been so rude to us. My elderly mother who cannot see very well leaned in to look at a painting in better detail (nowhere close to touching it) and a young woman working there rudely yelled at her to back away from the paining and to stay three feet away. She then proceeded to follow us around for the rest of our time there as if we weren't to be trusted to be left alone. Won't be back here.
Jeff Chagnard
Great spot to spend a couple of hours exploring. Favorites were the modern art wing, the art deco meeting room and the glass sculpture at the entrance. Tickets are free! Just have to make a reservation for them.
Anel Rodriguez
Great Museum. Free admission and great place to take school aged children!
Shelly Dillon
Loved seeing the display of illustrator Garth Williams. Beautiful grounds to walk around.
Vincent Allen
A lovely art collection with many examples of all different schools and styles. The building itself is a great piece of art itself.
Eric Insler
Modern art is pretty small, the other art exhibits and pleasant and not overwhelming. The main attraction, for me, is the building itself, with a beautiful exterior and unique art deco interiors.
Sarah Mandy
They have a lot of variety in the range of kinds of art. They also have some beautiful architecture. There is a kids creative area, a concert hall, a dining area, and a gift shop (which also has a wide variety of things). It is two stories and it is FREE! (Also can you who is reading this like 👍 my review? Thanks!) …
Shena O'Lone
Beautiful art deco building with wonderful art. Very sweet workers and it's free. Also has a cute little art area for children to do computer painting, drawing, stop animation and some other fun activities. It also has art classes for all ages!
Christina Statsmann
Awesome experience for free. I'm not an artist or an avid lover of art, but I do appreciate it. I enjoyed the general and historical information for each exhibit.
Frank Rawetzki
During a visit with family in Omaha we took time out to visit the Joslyn Art Museum and I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of artwork displayed, the easy atmosphere and the friendly staff. It’s definitely a place I can recommend and would return to for additional visits
Fay Lee
Art museums are not typically something I seek out when exploring new cities so I don't have a great ability to compare. However, general admission to the Joslyn is FREE, so no excuse not check out this beautiful building. My most recent visit was triggered by the "Art of Seating" exhibit. The special exhibit did cost $10, but the kids were free. I really enjoyed seeing a variety of seating options from the past 200 years displayed. Plus, I love chairs, I am even sitting on one now!Beyond the rotation of special exhibits there are permanent galleries featuring artists from all over the world and different time periods. The Art Works room in the basement offered a variety of hands on art related activity spaces was a big hit with the kids too .
Jacob Bandy
Free admission for students, including the exhibits you must pay extra for. Being an architect major I was way more fascinated by the building but my fiancé loved the artwork. There is also a really cool place for children to learn and play inside!
Jorge Morales
Not only a great place to see some unique galleries or shows. Also a great place to relax and have some time to your self. Beautiful paintings amazing artworks. And if there is something you love you may find it at the gift shop. Or just spend hours walking surrounded by art and history.
Miranda Fahrenbruch
Our first time here. Spent most of our time in the interactive kids/family area, and we're so glad! Wonderful, beautiful space with so many types of artistic expression. And I love that the walls leading to everything have art and information on them!
Ryan
This is a beautiful and wonderful museum. Just the architecture is fantastic and they have a great selection of artwork. My favorite is the Impressionist room and the other European art galleries. They also have a large selection of American art and ancient art. I have been here several times and I always try to go when I am in the area.
Brett Scollard
This is actually a pretty decent art museum, and the admission is free! There are a couple of Monet's and a Rembrandt. Some of the works are replicas as you would expect. They have an area for children and genuinely want to encourage the arts in the next generation.
Iowa Reviewers
Very good art museum with rotating installations and permanent exhibits, and a Dale Chihuly. Nice sculpture garden to explore when the weather is decent. Good museum store, too.
Grant Boyer
The Saint John's Bible exhibit is fantastic. I highly recommend going to visit to see it. We went when there was a guide who could explain many of the details of the illuminations, and that was very helpful. I wish we could have so more time contemplating the images. It was a wonderful way to spend an afternoon.
Julian Nisly
We stopped in here on a little getaway to Omaha. Very nice art gallery with many nice pieces. I would definitely recommend if you enjoy artwork.
Anna Johnson
Love love love this place!! Fun times. It amazes me every time I visit just to see the be beautiful building they're in and all the amazing art that is there on display permanently I love seeing all the extras that are there totally worth spending the extra money for it.
Chelsea F
Majority of the museum is free to the public, which is a huge help to our large, art-loving family. My children love the interactive play room, and ask often to go back. Highly recommended!
Mareaeric Campagna
My mother has been a member for 40 years plus. We frequent the little restaurant on the main floor. The food is always amazing and prepared before you. I ordered the Blackened Chicken Wedge Salad and had a fantastic Rainbow Cake following. We love to sit by windows. We always follow lunch a trip to their nice gift shop.
Allison Croisant
An amazing museum a large rotating or travelling exhibit. They offer student discounts and have quite a few paintings by some of the most well known artists. The gift shop is great and allows you to buy prints of some of your favorite paintings.
Nick Waggamon
This place was the highlight of our trip! Stopped in when we had a few hours to kill and was blown away! What a great, diverse collection!! They have some incredible works by well known artists as well as some very amazing works by ones you've never heard of.
Chris Webb
Excellent example of how to get curated art right. Free general admission, free parking, free WIFI, food available for purchase on premises. Gift shop with items relevant to the special exhibit. Absolutely gorgeous building worthy of visiting in itself. Do not visit here without coming to this museum.
Jessica Medlin
The majority of the museum is free. You can pay for a special exhibit, which I didn’t, but still enjoyed my time. Quiet. Many great pieces. Helpful staff. This was a good stop during my husband and mine’s time in Omaha-perfect for a rainy day.
James McIntyre
Absolutely gorgeous collection of pieces from a variety of eras and styles. Exhibits are laid out very cohesively and have thorough blurbs about each piece, making browsing a pleasure. Excellent way to spend a few hours for absolutely no admission fee.
Caleb Fili
Beautiful building with a wide variety of static and travelling displays. The event we were attending was in the auditorium which is exquisite. It's not usually open to the public so if you find an event using that space make sure to attend and check it out!
Grayce Love
Beautiful Art Deco building, constructed of pink marble. Very nice array of exhibits inside. The childrens activity center was a big hit for my three year old grandson. He especially enjoyed the contemporary art section, with large pieces exhibited, and installations that he could sit and watch.
We ate lunch at the Cafe Durham, seating is in the beautiful atrium. A gem in the city of Omaha.
Seth Hartshorn
Was extremely impressed with this museum, one of the greatest collections I've seen that was free. Around 90% of the museum was free, all but one special exhibit - you'll be able to see some of the special exhibit from a distance anyway as it's right beside the modern art gallery. Will definitely be back several times and consider membership
Aby Garcia
A beautiful.and Select Museum with exquisite collections, from Native American art to a fabulous Impressionist paintings and sculptures collection. A spacious and amazing building with an spectacular indoor fountain. A lovely store and a terrace- restaurant with a great view.
Manoj B.N
Wonderful place. The paintings of modern history and Native American heritage are amazing. Worth the money and time.
Jennie Orr Thomas
Interesting exhibits, at least the part we could see after hours. There for a wedding. The acoustics were only fair in the courtyard for the ceremony, but atrium reception area and food were very nice.
Patricia Gaddis
One of the finest museums I have experienced in the United States. The collection is diverse, the building itself is a work of art. From the outdoor sculpture garden to the children's room, the cafe, and of course, the exhibits, top notch! And the true surprise, it's free! Why anyone would not visit the Joslin multiple times is a mystery. Well done, Omaha, well done.
Jill Willcox
The Native American exhibit was wonderful. The watercolors were still vibrant after almost 200 years.
Sharyn Ballard
This museum contains famous artist's lesser known works. It's fun to recognize the artist from the style of the work. It's nice that it's a free venue, too. Great place to spend a cold Nebraska morning for kids and adults, alike.
Lindsay Mora
If you’ve ever been to the Freemason temple in Holborn, London it gives the same vibe. I wish we could have so more time contemplating the images. It was a wonderful way to spend an afternoon. The quantity of paintings are only exceeded by the quality of master paintings. And sculptures. We had a good time and we talked about the paintings, art, and history.
Daidra Jagger
So much fun for everyone! My husband and I took our 3 younger kids, 9, 10, and 11, yo this museum. First we walked around to see the art work and then we played. We could have spent all day there. Another great part, its FREE!
Morgen Teal
From the traveling exhibit (30 Americans) to the building itself this museum breathes beauty. Take your time, enjoy the journey. The children's area is delightful as well!
Amy Upchurch
Omaha's premier art museum does not charge admission for visitors. It is a lovely large airy space with plenty of great options, including hands-on for preschoolers. Pop in and out for an hour to receive multiple personal benefits. Parking could not be any easier. Don't overlook this gem!
Benita Williams
Wish it stayed open longer hours! Got a quick walkthrough before it closed and I love it!
Jeff Kaspar
I love Joslyn art museum. Free w/a $10 exhibit in addition to the free. Went the 1st time in a while & spent a lot of time in the free part, ended up spending 4 min in the $10 exhibit :( very fun afternoon. They've got a cafe open until 2PM, I think.
Nancy Wright
We enjoyed the Art Deco exhibit and many other pieces of art. I always enjoy the Joslyn's art deco architecture, too! So beautiful!
Tera Schmidt
Loved it! We were under some time restraints so didn't see as much as we wanted. Will be back as soon as possible to spend some more time. Gift shop was also neat and picked up some great items.
Kent Peters
Five star hangout, though sometimes their "special exhibits" should be labeled "special needs exhibits" due to the quality of the displays. The highlights of the museum are the Bodmer prints for me. Some very beautiful oils as well. The grounds are well kept and feature interesting trees and plants.
Caleb
Awesome historic building with beautiful art. Have reservations set up to limit people but even outside of COVID I remember it is always pretty quiet and relaxing. Really fantastic way to spend a couple hours.
ann geopforth
I want with my good friend who took his 18 month old daughter. There is so much for her to do and we enjoyed changing and doing the puzzles with her also. The art was beautiful the Christmas decorations are gorgeous.
Roland Montgomery
A lovely museum with distinct and well curated sections. Ranging from American Indian to Impressionist to children's books, the Joslyn Art Museum will have something for each guest. That is without including their special exhibitions often advertised. Even those that do not consider themselves an art buff.
Classes for adults and children are offered in the lowest level. Live music and acts often showcase. There are also lectures halls for guest talks and special events.
You will easily be able to spend a few hours here.
Salimah B
One of the best assets to our city! Admission is free and so are some lectures. Be on the lookout for yearly yoga outdoors and the constant movement of exhibits. The gift shop and cafe are the perfect additions to a cultured day.
Jennifer M Dirks
Loved ArtWorks, the interactive area for kids. My 4 year old loved building things and doing interactive tech-painting. We went on a Thursday night when they stay open late. Wasn't busy at all. Plus the kids can play in the fountain out front!
Martha J
Great variety of Art. My daughter absolutely LOVES this place...and its FREE! It's also nice that they offer classes to everyone to help find their passion for what kind of Art they may be interested in and/or to learn new Art techniques.
Margaret Haase
Staff was okay. Was with group and split off, other group was yelled at, not spoken too, for trying to look at detail. I understand the art is old and easily ruined by onlookers, but some aspiring artists seek the small details overlooked . The rest of the visit was amazing, and the art was authentic.
vanessa gavin
What a wonderful surprise. The building itself is a work of art, just breathtaking. And inside I did not expect to find a Rembrandt, a Titian, and the most glorious watercolors of the plains indians. The guards were so helpful and friendly. I hope to return. The guards were so kind and helpful!
dzign art
A wonderful museum full of every different kind of art from classical, to modern, prehistoric to the rennasciance . A great place for kids, students and just for a stroll with a friend. Every month has new additions and promotions . Very much worth every second and an awesome place♡♡♡
Melanie Baldwin
Beautiful artwork! Awesome area for the kids to get creative. Nice flow through the museum so you see everything. Must see. Highly recommend!
Lisa Fritz
Nice collection of different types of artwork from a variety of time periods and regions. Informative and interesting. Good way to spend a few hours if you like art.
Jeremy Warner
The artworks section for kids was awesome. Our son also loved the activity backpacks available (it is a scavenger hunt kind of thing while you learn about the art).
Marshall Bruner
Free general admission, regular hours. Nice quiet way to spend a morning or afternoon . Limited hours on indoors cafe. Nice sculpture garden outside. Has a gift shop, children's books, some signed by the author!
Jon Haas
My 6yr old got an art class for Christmas & he LOVED it. The art they made really surprised my wife & I. He is a natrual artist, but the stiff he did that day was well beyond what we knew he was capable of. He loved the museum tour & lunch break in the museum. Great winter break program for young artists. Next year he wants to go with his cousins.
Margaret Tomaszek Witry
Small art museum, two to three hours, but what it has in the collection is well worth a visit. I was surprised and loved my visit. The sculpture garden was inspirational.
Shawn Finley
One of my favorite places to spend the day. Whether you go alone or take the family, there is so much to see and do! They have many great exhibits come through and free galleries for the public to enjoy. They even have a beautiful garden outside. Check it out!
Ramon Rocha
A worthwhile cultural attraction to Omaha. A building of treasures and a staff with class. Top notch! Also the gift shop has $0.98 posters. I picked up Fallen Angels and Birth of Spring. Go get a fine art steal!
Jerry Wallace
This institution is a blessing to the cultural fabric of the Omaha metro region. Profoundly important works of art available for free viewing by the public is not available in all communities. But here, it is provided and treasured by both locals and visitors. Thank you to the board of directors. We are in your debt.

This museum is a delight to visit just to appreciate the large inventory of artwork here. The main exhibits are free for anyone, and there is an additional paid exhibit for whatever artwork is in for the month.
Families, couples, or anyone who appreciates art would absolutely love this museum.
Tyler Graybill
Nice place to take the kids. Venue is pretty much free except the featured exhibit which is understandable. The art room fornthe kids is always a hit for pur children, wish they would chamge it up every once in awhile. This didn't happen the last time, but the time before, just because our 7 year old pointed at things the " security would follow us thinking he was touching things, which he wasn't. That is about the only thing I didn't like.
Karyn Struck
This is such a gem for the Omaha area and the admission is free right now, which is amazing! There's a wonderful room for kids on the lower level that is hands on and engaging. Great for all ages.
Bree Krueger
Fun for all ages. We love the area for budding little artists.
someone you know
While our time was cut a little short because of a wedding the time spent there was very nice everyone was extremely helpful and guided us to where we needed to go and of course the art was beautiful.
JC Easley
Love the place, never get enough time to just stop and appreciate everything.
Justin Smith
There is just so much master painting going on here. And so many great master painters are represented here. Every era. So many styles. The quantity of paintings are only exceeded by the quality of master paintings. And sculptures.
A great learning and exploring center for the kids.
Your brain is going to swell up at all the master paintings...
Jo Hasselman
So much great art, and free admission. Loved it.
firebelly68
This place is amazing. Admission to the main museum is free(they do accept donations) and you can see works by some major artists i.e. Rembrandt, Matise, a few others. The building itself is quite a marvel, with one giant indoor court yard that has a beautiful fountain with what looks like Spanish tiles. They do have a revolving exhibit section that charges an entrance fee(about $10) that features some pretty big name and interesting work. I think that changes every month or two. Even without paying for the traveling portion of the museum there is plenty to see and do. I recently brought my brother in-law who was visiting from out of state and he loved it. We actually came back a second time the next day with my wife and son. 5 stars not quite enough, in my opinion
Chad Sideris
If I had to recommend one thing to do in Omaha, I would recommend visiting Joslyn Art Museum. Not only does it feature a few pieces from extemely noteable painters (Rembrandt and Monet), the very building the pieces are housed in is amazing. It's basically a giant, marble, art deco palace.
I feel very fortunate to have this museum in our city and to be able to visit it whenever I want 🥰
Jennifer Stopak (Jen)
Really beautiful. Beautiful artwork and building.
Carol McCarty
Loved the Art Deco exhibit
Rowan Rowantree
Always an awesome adventure through the land of ART! Learning about artistic style, social change, political beliefs through sculpture and art.
FREE ADMISSION every day! 1/2 price for "special exhibits" every Thursday evening.
Cheyenne Manzel
Loved the interactive Artworks area for children! My daughter had a blast.
Bobby Barajas
If you're looking for something to do in Omaha I'd highly recommend this place. It was free when I went, the building & sculpture garden a beautiful, and there is an eclectic collection among all of the exhibits & sections. Great for all ages too!
joseph longcrier
Great place, staff is super friendly and always willing to answer all your questions. The art there is awesome, all different kinds. The Spanish colonial fountain is a must see.
Ray Metzler
What a wonderful experience. They do a really nice job with all the exhibits. We were from out of town and got to see the Saint John's Bible exhibit...well worth it. Awesome experience. Thank you.
Jim Hickie
Very nice art museum. Not too big, easy to get in and out of, not crowded, and doesn't take all day to see everything. We truly enjoyed.
Patricia Patton
I have been visiting this Museum my whole life. As an Omaha native, the Joslyn is a staple among my memories. They have rotating exhibits which do cost money to visit. Be sure to see their permanent exhibit which features a restored Rembrandt painting.
The museum also offers a variety of educational services such as art classes and free public lectures on art and archaeology. You just have to check out their calendar of events to see what's happening.
They also host events such as cocktail parties, yoga, among other things. Again, be sure to check their calendar to see what's of interest to you.
Larry Denger
I came here this week and I have to admit, suffered from having low expectations for the Joslyn Museum. Isn't it great tho, when you are overly impressed with something your thought be be so average? The collections are great, rivaling anything you might find in Kansas City or Denver. Give yourself at least 2 hours here to appreciate the Renaissance Period pieces to modern art!
Sandy Odonnell
This is a wonderful art museum with some truly amazing art and architecture. It's not huge so u can get through it in a couple of hours. I highly recommend going. You won't be disappointed.
Keller Davis
wonderful facility and art gallery. Front of building is under construction but it will be even more beautiful once it is complete.
Dan Sr Bennett
My wife and I enjoyed spending time at Joslyn. It is most thrilling to imagain what the artist thoughts were when composing the paintings.
Thank you for a enjoable inspiring day.
Michael D'Auben
Really great resource for the city of Omaha. A diverse collection of art all nicely displayed in a wonderful building. I spent the whole afternoon wandering the galleries and I don't think I saw a quarter of the collection.
Peter Steyger
Superb exhibition space as well as permanent collections on display including impressive Medieval and Impressionist paintings, along with a very intriguing collection focusing on Western views of Arabic subjects. Excellent cafe for re-fueling prior to reveling in the colorful interior courtyard or dazzling sculture gardens.
Colin Mathis Miller
Best art museum in Omaha. If you like museums you won't be disappointed. Even have a place to eat which is great for when you spend all day there. Wish they stayed open later on weekends though (4pm)
Sara Vazquez
It's free! Other than the special exhibits anyone can go in without a price. High educational center for young ones, cafeteria, and shop all on the main floor. Their vast art collection is on the upper floor. No large backpacks, pens, food or drink is allowed inside.
N Lepf
Great museum.
If you are not into looking at paintings you might get "art-fatigue"
The lack of rest areas, hours and the cafe being closed when I visited gets 1.5 star demerit = 3.5
Andrew Reynolds
A great museum with plenty to see without paying for the exhibits that cost extra.
Especially loved the kids area. Our 5 and 7 year olds had a GREAT time there!
Raymond Kent
I was very upset that I didn't give myself more time to see everything when I was in town. I was not expecting such an amazing museum when I decided to check it out. I could have spent a full day here.
Eric Rudberg
I had no idea that this incredible art museum is in Omaha. Plus you can't beat the cost: free.
Kevin McGowan
Closing weekend priir to two-year restoration. Viewing the largest collection of Karl Bodmer indigenous peoples water colors.
Michael Misensol
Great place to spend a peaceful afternoon. Wonderful free exhibits in addition to optional paid exhibits.
Roblox Player
I absolutely love it. Got to see some famous art works like Mary Cassat, Claude Monet,Jackson Pollock, many more! It’s a medium size building. idk if it’s big or medium but anyways, there is a kids area, a concert hall, asian art, indian art, and more. I recommend it to your bucket list if you’re visiting Omaha.
Corey Westerfield
Great exhibits but almost half already packed up for new construction.
Ashley
Do yourself a favor and take a drawing class at the Joslyn. It adds a whole new dimension to how you perceive and appreciate craftsmanship in the outstanding collection of masterpieces housed here. There is an exploratory area for kids to play and learn, too. So don't feel like you have to get a babysitter if you have a child 4+ years old. Bring them along and have fun together!
Larry Goeser
Joslyn Art Museum is a marvelous
place, inside and out. They have recently
repositioned some of the collection. It's
really nice as a change of pace. There's
SO MUCH TO SEE, it takes several visits.
It's an actual wonderland !!
Marcus Tan
Great art museum considering it's free! Spent 2 hrs at the museum, and it's time well spent.
Anthony S
The kids are enjoying museums. Joslyn was interesting and the kids enjoyed both the art and the gift shop. There is a piece of digital artwork of a tree going through all four seasons. The kids were mesmerized by that for over ten minutes.
Piper Symington
This museum is free, but is better designed and more interesting than expensive venues in Philly and DC. The gift shop was inexpensive and well stocked, and the modern art exhibit was incredible.
Symone McCoy
Very disappointed on how i was talked to and treated on the phone from their so called event coordinator. I called and emailed to ask about a date to rent their hall for two weeks no answer. When he called me back he seemed annoyed and was very short with me on giving me information. Seemed like he didn't even want to talk to me or help me out at all.
Other than that I really like the place very beautiful place to visit.
Kari Larsen
This is a really great free place to take the kids. They have a specific little kids area. They have some super fun crafty play stuff. The rest of the museum is pretty nice.
susan seadon
This art museum is FREE! Not much is nowadays. Great standing art galleries and new shows several times annually. Good way to spend an afternoon.
B C
Treasure in Omaha. Standing exhibits are great. Rotating exhibits are a gift. What an opportunity to explore art. Its free admission!
Todd Shackelford
I am not a museum person.... Yet, the Jocelyn Art Museum makes me want to return everytime I leave. Historic and relevant, the Joslyn is a perfect mix for all ages. If you get the chance, it is well worth the minimal effort.
Patty Johnson
We enjoy looking at the art. My children like the backpack kits that help them explore the museum in different ways. We also enjoy the kids art area.
Butterknight789
Its got plenty of art and a lot of history. My biggest gripe is that its pretty bland and lacks color or anything interesting outside of the historic art
Vicki Cunniffe
Good collection of art. Lovely building. It is small but we stopped by 3 times over the weekend to see it all!
Anthony Lupo
Excellent selection of artwork from the Renaissance to contemporary artists. To name a few: Pollock, Rembrandt, Delacroix, Monet, Trumbull, El Greco, etc. Takes a good couple of hours to go through completely. Well worth a visit, especially while it is still free.
Diana T.W
Awesome place to learn and spend a whole day marveling art from the renaissance era to modern day in a beautiful art deco building. Must visit in Omaha. Great little art shop too to buy cool souvenirs and poster artworks.
Rosanne Belpedio
Very nice display of art. Organized
Micah Ringlein
What an amazing collection! Every single time.
I love that they pair up with Central High School to enhance students' education. It really is something that they want to be so active in their community and notably with their next door neighbor.
Carolyn Leppala
Fantastic collection. Beautiful building, fun interactive activity space for kids big and small. A must see!
A Crowd of One
We went to a concert by the USAF "Heartland of America Band". The concert was a musical celebration for the 70th birthday of the U.S. Air Force. The performance was awesome. The musicians and vocalists we're just marvelous.
The hall the concert was held in has really good acoustics; sightlines were pretty good but we were upstairs and part of the stage was obscured.
Gay Dybwad
Excellent art museum in downtown Omaha. Free wheel chairs or scooters if needed. Nice cafe. Spacious. Maybe a bit too much pink marble stonework for "artitecture."
Sydney Goldberg
I love the Joslyn. You can really take your time in going through the museum because most of it is free for the public, so you can always go back. It's a beautiful building. Staff was all very friendly.
Denise Nennet
Only partly open to the public when we were there. The Museum is now in renovations.
Gabriel Sjöberg
This museum offers permanent displays of local and global artists. They also attract travelling exhibits from around the world, so you should check what they are showing from time to time. A huge grant from a donor means that admission is free, so there's no reason you shouldn't check out the Joslyn!
Christina Weibel
Such a fun place to go! I had a great time and really enjoyed the artwork. They even have an area for kids to enjoy!
Jim McWilliams
A terrific day of culture right here in Omaha, Nebraska. Nice design, easy access to all exhibits on foot, cart or chair. We loved our visit. You will too.
Jonas Glazeski
Nice permanent collection. Always clean, quiet with decent hours of operation. Staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Temporary exhibits are usually interesting and informative. Always enjoy visiting.
Jadey Jenkins
Katie Herring is an angel and deserves a raise. I’m looking forward to visiting the museum once it opens back up. Eddie, head of security: super inappropriate how you yelled over your coworkers at my 65yo handicap(MS) mother-in-law. If you don’t want people hobbling into your building with out a mask on, maybe put a sign on the door that reads “mask required for entry” or maybe you could have mentioned it before you buzzed us in. And just maybeee you could have mentioned when we were on the phone, saying we were on the way.... thanks Katie for going out of your way to rectify the situation.
Brian O
Awesome art, needs clearer defined photo taking policy. Fun for small groups but call ahead if you have a large group and want to take any pictures while you are there.
Anita Rodriquez
Great place for creative activities for children (and adults). And, it's free! Donations accepted, but no admission fee.
Madonna Wyman
Curation and presentation are well done. No huge crowds to deal with so experience for visitor is optimal. Staff is so friendly
Floyd Benjamin Rafael
Awesome security team help assist me keep my proposal a secret special surprise for my fiance. I love how they was in on it hope the owners of Johnson Art Museum take that whole security team on a nice vacation
Vicki Eastman
Wonderful volunteers and staff. We
have learned a lot since purchasing a
membership. This gets us in free to all the exhibits and they are excellent.
Joel House
The Joslyn is always worth visiting for the building alone, and the collection punches well beyond its weight, especially now with the refurbish of the European collection. Beyond the regular collection, the museum's traveling exhibitions and associated lectures are spectacular, and the collaborations with the local arts scene just add to the value.
Linda Cave
I have visited the permanent and special exhibits and taken watercolor and metal jewelry classes. I have enjoyed all aspects of my visits. People are friendly and work hard to make sure you enjoy your visit.
Martin Frascone
Love this museum. It's really big, free, the building itself is pretty a sight. Definitely worth seeing some very skilled paintings
Classical Methods
It's free and the art is amazing. You really can't beat that. 10/10

The Joslyn is an absolutely fantastic Museum. They have many of the famous artists. There is a Degas sculpture a Rembrandt and many other famous artists. Some of their artwork is BC. Other paintings are in the 12 hundreds. I really enjoy going to the Jocelyn.

FACES from the INTERIOR is a beautiful display of skill and art. It's a glips into the lifestyle, culture, and forced journey of our displaced forfathers.
Lyly Louanghaksaphone
This museum is huge! Plan on spending at least half a day here. There's so much history and all kinds of culture here. The best part about it is the museum is free, which is why I gave it 5 stars.
Shally Very
This is definitely a five star museum from the outside space to the the architecture of the building to the free exhibits, definitely worth a visit...
BTW the guards over there were so so nice... They even gave us free tickets to a paid exhibit.

The new exhibit 30 Americans is awesome and so inspiring! Everyone should go see it. I love that the Joslyn is now partnering with Inclusive Communities to host a Table Talk. Great discussuions.
Kyle Martin
Cool place to go for free!!
Matthew Scheidenhelm
Despite awkwardly devulging that I have a girlfriend to my kids after a divorce, there are a lot of amazing experiences to be had at this place. Do not go on this ride.
m toovey
We only go for the kids art room, but there's a lot to do in there! It's a great place to get out of the weather and spend a couple hours. And you can't beat the price!
Vanessa Dimmer
I loved the artworks displayed in this museum. The exhibits are very well-displayed and the staffs are very assistive. I love arts so I enjoyed my visit here at the Joslyn Art Museum.

Free to the public. Only the traveling exhibits cost anything. Good atmosphere, nice displays. The old portion of the building is gorgeous as well.
Ian Zabel
The Joslyn Art Museum was quite the experience. I have been to many art exhibits but this one takes the cake. The art here ranges from realism to abstract amd everything else in between. You could spend hours here and not even realize it.
The Lord Runge
Great museum with beautiful art definitely recommend as a must see when you visit omaha
Jonathan Covalt
We went specifically for the childrens' area, which was excellent. There were several activities for kids, and our 3 and 4 year old children loved all of it.
I would recommend this to anyone looking for a good activity for kids.
Chris Nelson
Very nice art museum. Mostly free, only one exhibition that requires a fee, basically to sponsor it. The fee was $10 and was worth every penny.
Upendra Chalise
The display of oil pailtings and few arts from all over the world in its beautifully engineered space gives a perfect museum vibes. I love for its varied display and ambience.

Amazing displays; Renoir, Monet etc. We specifically went for" the art of sitting," exposition. All about chairs. Very cool.
Adrian Fuentes Sanchez (Adrian X Fuentess)
Great place to spend a chilly morning. Beautiful landmark in Nebraska. So much to look at. We need to take advantage of our cultural and educational art.
Linda McIlheran
Beautiful for wedding reception, but all the hard marble surfaces.... You couldn't hear anything that was said through the microphone. The sound reverberates so badly it just sounds like it loud mess.
Katie O'Quinn
