Reviews of General Crook House Museum

This is a lovely, well- maintained historical home, always beautifully decorated for the Christmas season. Staff and volunteers are so welcoming, polite, and helpful. The reception room is one of our favorites; it includes a small Steinway piano and a Regina music box that plays songs using large metal disks. The sound is extraordinary! My 85 year old mother got an unplanned workout going up the many steps to the front door, because I hadn't even thought to ask if there was a handicapped entrance - which there is around back, thank goodness! (We'll be sure to go that way on our next visit.) There is also a small elevator inside if you are unable to walk up or down the impressive staircase. The Crook House is very much worth a few hours of your time, and you can see something new on each visit.

We had an amazing adventure here!
From the moment we got up the stairs from the street we were greeted by our friendly hostess.
She gave us a tour guide and we were able up learn about the facility at our own pace.
This house has an amazing history.
A visit here is definitely one that should be on anyone's bucket list. Beautiful and educational.

I liked the museum and I recommend it for those interested in the history. It's a lovely house and has some great details. It's self-guided, which makes the $8 entrance a bit pricey.

Really loved this home and the history of it! Would highly recommend this as a must see when checking out local museum's.

Afternoon Tea at the General Crook House! The house is still decorated for Christmas and it is very festive! AARP sponsored this event and it was quite popular.

I have lived in Omaha all my 40 some years and did not know about this place until the 2019 Nebraska passport. I enjoyed walking around the house that is almost fully decorated and furnished with pieces from 1879. Some you can touch and sit on. We take the comfort of the 21st century for granted.

This house was truly amazing! Crook was a heroic officer that understood the native Americans and the importance of his mission. He was well respected by both native Americans and the “ white” people. This museum appropriately captures this. Everything in the house has been well preserved or accurately replicated.

Awesome historical venue. Perfect for a wedding/party/event for less than 50. The garden was stunning. All of the guests could not believe how beautiful it was. Inside is a large well kept historic house that held just enough people for our wedding. Has a kitchen and bathrooms both upstairs and downstairs. Even has an elevator! Both of the museum volunteer workers were awesome to work with and both very helpful. I recommend visiting, not only for a awesome place to have your event, but just to learn about Omaha's past as well.
Please leave a donation if you do!

Very interesting place. I loved it.

I was less than impressed by othe grounds were taken care. Trashcan broken benches.
Madeline Horn
Docent's knowledge added to the enjoyment of the self-guided tour. This house sits in a lovely former military base and current college, so the lush vegetation and historic buildings makes this an oasis in central Omaha. (Visited in mid-May)

Fantastic place! Very interesting and atmospheric!

Awesome piece of history that was preserved for generations to come. There is also a walking tour you may take around the campus with a tour guide book. Volunteer at the General Crook house is very friendly. I love being around that much history.

So much history, fun for entire family. Beautifully restored and maintained. Feels like you're stepping back in time. Staff friendly and helpful. Would recommend the Fort Omaha walking tour to anyone in, around, or simply passing through Omaha NE.

The place is a big part of my childhood memories. I still visit the place whenever I get home. There are a lot of things to see inside the house.

Will be having our wedding ceremony here. Can't wait to see it in full bloom!! Went a few weeks ago to look around and this place is absolutely perfect for our ceremony! Roxanne has also been amazing through the process!

Loved the Generals house. He was an outstanding General

Unlike other historic homes, the General Crook house allows you to sit in the furniture and touch some of the items in the home unless specifically marked. The lady that greeted us was very nice and knowledgeable about the house's history.

One of the absolute best pioneer-era museums in the United States, the General Crook House is a historic institution with special features and exhibits operated by the Douglas County Historical Society. I highly recommend it to any fan of history.
Corey Endsley
For only 7$ not a bad time passer but all in all not very big and nothing to really get to excited about. I will say the two ladies that worked there were very nice and informative.
Erik Braley
Very interesting place. Beautiful home with a lot of history
Lyle Sass
Shared a tour of part of the building with two of my sons. They were impressed.
Maria Hansen
Interesting enough. All self-led tours. Half of the audio guides didn't work, so we had one person in our group listen and repeat everything she heard out loud.
paul T
Excellent guides with great knowledge.

It may be a small museum, but you should stop by and hear the history of our town. Every year there is a different exhibit, on top of the interesting regular displays. Ask about the wallpaper!
Barbara Pearson
First and second floor nicely restored to 1870's. Basement displays called Straight Out of Omaha is very informative.
June Petersen
Great history, considering General Crook's work with the west, the story of Standing Bear and Fort Robinson.

Interesting small historic venue. Great staff. Low entry fee, I think $5. Elevator to second floor and basement.
