Reviews of Oklahoma History Center
Great museum with lots of history and nostalgia. It's beautiful inside with airplanes hanging down from the ceiling and thousands of pictures giving a historical perspective of this wonderful state. Beautiful outside with several monuments depicting Oklahoma's history with oil wells and oil production. Right across from the State Capital and Governor's Mansion. I am not doing it any justice with these unedited photos from outside, but this will give anyone a good idea of what the museum and its surroundings are like.
Actually went thinking it would be boring and corny but ended with a completely different thought. It was fun and amazing, it was interactive and educational. It even allowed me to introduce my Gen Z 16 yr old to a whole world of things. We had a blast and highly recommend.
The family and I enjoyed this museum very much. We learned a lot about the history of Oklahoma. We ended up spending nearly the whole day going through the exhibits. The kids enjoyed the hands on history parts.
I absolutely love this place! I've been coming here since I was little as well, and now I'm bringing my little one too. I love all the history that I still learn no matter how many times I visit, every time is a new experience.
Great venue! We attended a Kilgen Organ presentation of the 1920 "Mask of Zorro." Amazing.
Exhibits are inspiring.
The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. I liked that they had interactive exhibits. My husband and I went, we spent a little more then an hour there. We went specifically it see the Oklahoma in space exhibit but the other exhibit were good too.
The OK History Center/museum is more than okay. High quality exhibits that tell the complex story of Oklahoma. There are many interactive exhibits enjoyable for all ages. Definitely worth a few hours for both the indoor and outdoor exhibits.
I agree with the other positive reviews. As a visitor to Oklahoma, the exhibits and displays provided an interesting view into the nation's 46th state. There's something here for everyone and research options too if a deeper dive is desired.
Didn't have time to go inside but the outdoor park was really nice! They got a cannon, a huey helicopter, and an oil rig exhibit. They also have a walk path with bits of Oklahoma history info alongside it.
Thoroughly impressed. Under $20 for a family of 7! We stayed having fun and learning for over 3 hrs!! Great for kids with lots of hands on learning. Even a small gift shop.
Place was fantastic! My boys and I loved it! Might have to come back to look at the stuff outside.
The Oklahoma History Center is amazing!
Unfortunately we did not go inside but we took a walk outside, very informative and the displays were great!
Incredible museum. Pretty much sectioned off so you can follow history in chronological order. The building itself is a work of art. If your on Oklahoma City, it's a dont miss. Plan on several hours to take it all in. World class museum.
We were given a tour and lecture during a Leadership outing and the lecture didn't disappoint. The passion and knowledge of the professor was inspiring! I can't wait to go back to explore the genealogy dept.
We really ejoyed this museum. Lots of interactive exhibits. Great for all ages. Senior rates and military and veterans are free with ID.
Attended the Vietnam Era pinning ceremony. It's a big place with lots of historical items. I need to go back and spend a couple of hours.
I think this is one of the best museums to visit in Oklahoma they have so much to offer and see
The people that work in the library are pleasant and it's a lady there that is very helpful
Recently had our wedding here and it was awesome! Great photo opportunities and even greater atmosphere! Definitely would recommend having your wedding here if you are looking for a classy wedding! Audra and Raychel were so nice and helpful, they made sure we had everything we needed!
Incredibly welcoming staff, beautifully curated, an understated gem in the metro. If you are from Oklahoma you owe it to yourself to make a day of it. Beautiful view of the capital building.
Never in a million years did I think Oklahoma would build something that I would enjoy visiting related to history. But this is really a nice place. Would I love to see A more in-depth and accurate visual depictions of the Native American culture, and the impact natives have on who we are as Oklahoman yes. But they still did a wonderful job. I would like to see more of Oklahoma's truth in regards to the racial tension in the 1920. It should be displayed that we in fact had a race riot in Tulsa, that what is now know as Bricktown was mostly own and operated by black people. Maybe in the future they will change it up a little and show some of the ugly truth.
Very enjoyable experience, with lots to learn and many hands on exhibits to keep the kids interested. We will definitely come back! Thank you.
This museum really exceeded my expectations. I initially allocated 2 hours to spend here but of course I ended up spending 3.5 hrs instead and could've easily spent another 2 more hours here. The exhibits are a fascinating overview of Oklahoma's past, present and future. I particularly liked the creativity and attention to detail that went into all the exhibits. If you're a visitor to OK, this museum is a must visit. The $10 admission is very inexpensive in my view compared to the quality of the museum.
Tip - don't miss the space exhibit, it has the original Skylab capsule on display, this was a bonus treat that was completely unexpected!!!
Nice place. Perfect place for our OCAPL dinner meeting and speaker. Beautiful facility. Wonderful view of the State Capitol while having dinner under the Wiley Post' Winnie Mae!
Very good. Lots of great stuff about Oklahomas history. Very clean and well laid out, lots of parking and not difficult to find. A very varied selection of displays and great A/C if you go in the summer.
If you have not visited this museum, my son and I would highly recommend it! Best money I’ve spent so far while visiting Oklahoma City! Loved it! ❤️
Great place, allows photography (no flash), and best of all its free.
Really nice History Center. We only toured the ground floor, finding the exhibits including Native American and Space sections to be informative and well done.
Outside exhibits including information on the many trees, and the oil drilling industry were neat. The Huey display including pilot and crew information was cool.
Was an awesome experience! My son had a blast 💙 …
This museum provides a good history of the state of Oklahoma. Although I have lived here 26 years of my adult life, I learned so much in just the first two exhibit halls! The museum is very well laid out and the exhibits are beautiful. I can't believe the museum has been open 14 years, as it is very clean and looks brand new! There is a good mix of interactive learning for adults and kids and view/read only items. Many of the Native American bead work items are stunning. The Oklahoma / Vietnam war gallery was unique, very moving exhibits to say the least. Fun to sing and dance along with the "Oklahoma" musical playing in the Noble Foundation Gallery. Outside, the museum grounds are also beautiful. Too much to write - I had a great afternoon. Easy to navigate, ample parking, great gift shop, lots of photo opportunities! The staff was also friendly and helpful.
Nice place to learn about the tribes in Oklahoma
A nice place to visit with lots of things to see and cheap price to get in too which is nice. I learned a lot about Oklahoma's history. Who knew it was so cool?? Also, the lady working the museum cafe today was one of the nicest people I've ever encountered.
Love it. So much great history here. They've added a lot since my last visit. You could easily spend a week here and not cover everything there is to see and read and experience.
We had our wedding here on June 26th, 2021. No words can describe how beautiful it was. Cyndi Lu and Audra were so wonderful to work for the entire process. Everything went off without a hitch. Apologies to Audra for how long it took to get our families to vacate. They just didn’t want to leave a good time. Thank you again for making our wedding so special.
The Museum is large, and has several galleries to explore on a few floors. The Exhibits are fantastic. Everything is laid out and organized well. In some rooms, there was too much stuff, but we did come out learning quite a bit about Oklahoma. We enjoyed the quick glimpses and the overview in all the rooms, but we particularly liked the exhibits devoted to OKC’s commercial history, the Vietnam War and the local soldiers, the 39 Tribal Native American Tribes, the Steamboat “Heroine”, and the oil and gas industries. The airplane “Winnie Mae” and the Helicopter hanging on the ceilings were intriguing.
So much to learn here! It's set up in such a way that it shows history as more than just facts and figures but as a relevant story. And the story is about the state as whole throughout decades and centuries. It includes the different cultures of Oklahoma as well with the Native American exhibits, the vintage kitchen, the horse-drawn carriages, the television displays, and even a Sonic display. I thought it was really neat being able to learn about things about towns I've grown up in and traveled to. It's definitely worth a visit.
Pretty interesting, layout of information is a little jumbled from a timeline perspective and that could confuse people who don't truly understand the sequence of events from a historical perspective. The trail of tears seems to come after the land run from a exhibit layout.
Lot of information check it out for yourself and form opinion.
Beautiful museum, first time here with a field trip with my daughter. Monday kids are free so might want to plan for this day if you want to save a few bucks. Military vets and active are also always free. Hands on goodies for the kids. Sam Noble gallery was closed for renovations, looking forward to seeing that when we return. Enjoy!
Lived here much of my life and still learned some really cool new things!!
Great exhibits. Well laid out. Lots of information. Learned a lot of things about the state they never taught in OK history growing up. Plan on at least 3+ hours to see it all and even then that's rushing.
This place is one of the coolest places to visit in OKC. If you're from here or not it's a must see. I have been several times and always enjoy the changing exhibits. The details on the museum are my favorite part. They pay so much attention to every little thing. The garden is also beautiful and a great place to hang out on a cool day and just have your lunch. There is a cafe upstairs that serves basic stuff like sandwiches and salads. And even it's fully decorated. The price is really inexpensive for what you get. I cannot wait to go back again.
Friendly, efficient! Hospitable, received donation with encouraging prospect that donation would be asset to Museum. Very satisfied!
Amazing museum, must see!!!
I've been to this museum several times over the years, and I drive up from Dallas to visit! My only complaint is that 1) they have a world-class museum with an audio tour, but they don't advertise the audio, and 2) most of the exhibits aren't properly signed with the audio-tour stop, so you wind up guessing most of the way.
My sister-in-law is part Native American and I was sending her so many pictures from the museum about her ancestors (Choctaw) who are from the area! She loved the proper representation of her people and their stories, and she can’t wait to get out here and see it for herself!
The museum has a lot of stuff, though, some parts were a little lack-luster, overall, I enjoyed my visit.
The Oklahoma History Center is a great place to visit. They have a brand new building now, that is much better than the old one. You can spend hours in here doing research or just looking at the displays. Every time I come here, I discover something new. I think you will enjoy it.
A very well laid out Oklahoma history museum.
one of the best state museums.
First time ever going and will have to return. Defintely loved seeing the different exhibits including the space exploration on circuit. Interesting to see a piece of my family history included in one exhibit.
So much to see in this lovely museum. There are 4 different rooms of displays of all types of Oklahoma history. This takes more than an hour see everything and the more that you read the longer you will need. I visited last week.
Okay, here's a free trick, as you enter the center there are two feedback portals on either side, be sure to give the feedback after you finish the tour and Before you get into the gift shop, you get discounts upto 10% 😉 You're welcome! Now the Center itself is Extensive and Beautiful. Book a Whole Day! Take the Kids definitely. There is so much for them to do with the Center's "Hands in History" initiative! I was tired from walking around the Indoor exhibits only! And then there's Outdoor exhibits. You donot want to miss this one. The Gift has such beautiful items, Do get yourself a Dreamcatcher! Or the Chiming Hearts!
An Oklahoma treasure! It has lost more than half of its funding over the past 10 years and still keeps OK history alive. And, are in the process of adding the OKPOP (Oklahoma Museum of Popular Culture) in Tulsa across the street from Cain's Ballroom, to open in late 21 or early 22.
Such an amazing resource for all Oklahomans to experience our history in an interactive way! You'll want to return again and again to explore more deeply.
Better than expected museum. Plan on about a 2 hour visit.
Very nice. Super Interactive for kids !
The new Learning Lab at the Oklahoma History Center was dedicated today and it is beautiful. Thanks to Clark and Kay Musser for this wonderful donation! It is already being put to good use to share knowledge about Oklahoma history and family history!
Interesting collection. The century project was great and food for thought: what items would you include in a crate buried for 100 years? What predictions would you make about the world 100 years from now?
Was there for after hours wedding event, beautiful venue, definitely a one of a kind backdrop for photos
Visited the Museum on a trip across the country, was a wonderful little slice of history! We loved the Century Chest Exhibit especially. Had some delicious wraps at the cafe on the third floor as well
I visited OKC for the holidays & was looking for a place to visit. This place seemed the best bet but boring nonetheless. I was in for a very big surprise! This place is not only culturally inclusive, it is fun while being educational! My family had a really gun time going through the different exibits. Would 💯recommend. …
Was great so many nice people to help with research.
Bring a jacket, it's cold inside. Nice little museum with some cool Oklahoma history.
Very educational. My kids, ages 4, 6 and 11 all enjoyed the interactive displays.
The entire experience was great, staff was very professional and friendly.

If you are an Okie or just a history buff, check it out.
As someone not born and raised in Oklahoma, this place is really neat. I went for a staff retreat and was able to tour the facility. I cannot wait to take my girls!
The displays and exhibits need to be updated or just moved around. I've been going for a few years. And the only change was a space exhibit turned Vietnam then back to space.
Absolutely memorable, can't wait to go back 💜🔥🙌👑🙏😇 …
Love it! Great venue!
Worth a trip one weekend to see the history of OK. Price and parking is very reasonable.
Wonderful look at the history of our great state! Lots of neat things to see and several interactive exhibits. Fun for all ages.
