Reviews of American Banjo Museum
This banjo museum was really fun to see. I highly recommend walking through it if you have time. With two floors of banjo history this place is the best thing to do if you have a few hours to kill. Once you are done you can go get some food at abuelas. You can also learn to play the banjo and buy one while at the museum.
This place is amazing. They have a ton of banjos of all types and eras, and even if it isn't your musical style, the history and how it relates to jazz is really interesting.
What a great museum! Each display is a stunning work of art. I lost count of how many times I said, "Wow!" If you are into music, art, banjo picking, or just looking for something out of the ordinary, I can't recommend the American Banjo Museum enough. Also, the woman working the front counter is a peach! Thanks for a great visit!
Fun stop during a road trip. Lots of amazing art in this place. The banjos on display and the history of the banjo
are fascinating.
Small museum but very nice from inside with a lot of history to learn , in the end before you leave the gentleman in the front desk will play the banjo for you, I really recommend this place to learn a little bit of American history
Wonderful collection of ornate and rare banjos. I’ve always enjoyed the sound of the banjo, with bands like Freelance Whales and Mumford & Sons. Visiting this museum gave me a deeper understanding and appreciation of its ties to American history.
Friendly, warm, knowledgeable people on staff this rainy Tuesday. My toddler and I went in on a whim. Impressive collection and exhibits. The banjos are incredible! The intricacies on instruments over 100 years old beyond impressive… we learned a lot and had fun. I want to learn to play now.
I recommend you check it out for yourself.
A great place to spend 30 minutes to an hour. The selection of artistic banjos is truly incredible to have all in one place. Wish I could’ve spent more time there. Nice staff, too!
Only $7 for standard adult entry. Less for others
Worth the visit even if you've never heard banjo music before. They have put together an easy to follow history of the banjo and the numerous collection of beautifully crafted banjos is superb. Catch them on the weekend and you may catch a live show with price of admission. They have many talented people on staff. It's worth your time if you like learn about history.
I recommend this hidden gem to anyone who loves music and appreciates hand made beauty. I was amazed at how detailed and beautiful the banjos on display were. I had no idea the history behind the banjo, but I do now! They have extensive info and visuals on hand! Even if you have never played a banjo, you will come away with an intense appreciation for the instrument. The staff were wonderful, and one even gave us a live story and performance right infrount of his office. Don't miss out on this place if you are in Oklahoma City!
This was a wonwonderful Plato visit if you just want to get out the house. We found this while riding the tram. Lots of banjos and lots of history. Highly recommend
Very nice museum, it’s well kept and with a nice staff. Myself and my girlfriend enjoyed even though neither of us are banjo players. It’s a trip through American history through different eyes.
One of the best museums I have ever visited. As soon as you walk in you are greeted by a friendly staff who make you feel very welcome. The collection of banjos is amazing, there are costumes and other concert related items on display as well. They have a cute little gift shop with a variety of items at reasonable prices. A hidden gem right in bricktown. I highly recommend visiting here
Many nice bangos and other things on exhibit - a lot of very interesting history. also, there was a very good video about the banjo and it's history in the US that was very informative
A wonderful experience! Worth seeing if you love the banjo! I had no idea there were so many beautifully designed banjos!
Very very cool place. I may have overlooked Minne Pearl there and I know she played the banjo. My 13 year old son is begging to own one.
Very nice banjo collection with many, many beautiful instruments. They even had some banjos you could play with!
Fun history and some neat banjos. Their traveling exhibits were fun. I wish they had more ways to hear and see famous performances listen to examples etc. There were a few QR codes but not every one has a phone QR code reader or knows how to use one.
A really cool place with an amazing collection. They have interactive area, lessons and live preformers. Really worth a check out to see some musical history. Definitely one of the coolest collections of banjos
This is a very well done museum. I learned a lot. Millions of dollars worth of antique banjos. The facility is new and we'll designed
Very enjoyable place! The staff was friendly and helpful! Clean bathrooms!
Definitely go visit if you get a chance!
learned a little about something I prior had no real interest in... so I'm impressed! beautiful instruments here, but sadly, no Kermit.
Amazing collection of banjos with interesting history. Live music also.
I don't even play the banjo but was very impressed with the history the quality of the museum and to discover that the guitar gets its origins from the electric banjo was quite impressive recommend this place to anyone
I had so much fun here and the staff was very helpful. This is a great place with a lot of history.
Such a fun museum! 10/10 recommend!
We went this past weekend and just LOVED it. Had a very good time. Cant wait to go to some of the music sessions there.
An amazing collection of historic banjos
Very interesting and the staff were friendly and knowledgeable
Thank you for the awesome visit. Still want buy a banjo! Let me know the price
As a music teacher I "geeked out."
Beautifully kept, well put together, historical, not overwhelming, engaging staff.
Thank you for putting this piece of America music history together in one place and keeping it current and as accurate as possible.
If you're in OKC visit this fun piece of Americana music.
My family and I had a great experience here! BIG SHOUT OUT to Lucas who serenaded my children with some custom lyrics! We had a blast learning Banjo life together! #parentgoals
It was a neat hidden gem, I didn't know how beautiful banjos could be. It's a nice way to kill 30-45 minutes in Bricktown.
What a fun experience! We learned so much, and the banjos were so beautiful. I wasn't even aware that there were different types of banjos! Plus, they have banjos you can practice on!!
Much bigger than I expected. Awesome place!
Beautiful place. Very much in awe of the collection. Participated in one of the many events that they schedule. Fun!
This is the Most Enjoyable Museum I have experienced!! I really was not ready to leave!! I had my grandson with me,he's 10 and he really enjoyed it as well!! We will definitely be back!! The history of the Banjos very well put together WONDERFUL JOB GUYS❣👍👍🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟WILL BE BACK❣💝💞💝 …
I had been wanting to visit this place for some time. We finally went and it was awesome, kind of tells you the history of the banjo and the music and you can see the evolution of the instrument. There are also a lot of banjo there and some of them are some are beautiful works of art. You can also even try your hand at playing and there are tutorials available to help.
As an amateur banjo player I'm probably a tad biased in my review, but this was truly one of the best museums I have visited in a long, long time.
The facility is in excellent shape, the quality of the displays is top-notch, and the narrative they present of the banjo (from African origins to the present) is both honest and tastefully presented. The receptionist was very welcoming and made us feel right at home. Even my wife (who is NOT a banjo player) enjoyed her visit. I feel confident saying this is the finest collection of banjos one can ever hope to see under one roof. We would absolutely return if we lived closer.
I went for marti gras at the museum. It was my first visit to the museum and I enjoyed my visit so much! Banjos everywhere, old and new with stories and backgrounds taking me through the history of banjo music and the people who played it. On marti gras night the museum hosted a local band that played dixieland and jazz. They had local artisan beer, some food and a whole lot of music and fun. I will go again this fall for the banjo fest downtown Bricktown OKC. What a wonderful night!
Super interesting place. Very well kept AND the satff was very friendly and made us feel very welcome.
The area where is located seems very interesting. I wish i had more time to spent Inn The area.
This museum is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
This is an excellent place to visit for any banjo or bluegrass enthusiast. I especially liked the displays of early banjos and the history of the banjo.
A lot of fun. Great history. Amazing craftsmanship on some of these banjos. We had fun timing through there. Military discount! Pretty good gift shop where you can even buy a quality starter banjo and books. Great location near Bricktown. Definitely recommended.
Very informative. What an education on banjos.
Place was awesome, even if you are not into the banjo there is a great deal of American Music history and some amazing classic craftmanship to admire. Recommend a visit to anyone.
i was the first time to Oklahoma City and wanted to check out the local attractions and top TripAdvisor 'Things to Do'. I've never been to a Banjo museum so thought I would give it a shot! Stopped by and loved it. The lady who took our money for the tickets was awesome; always had a smile and gave us a quick overview of the museum when we stated we had not been there before. We then walked through the initial part which was a self-guided tour, and then saw two floors of 100+ banjos, with each banjo having it's own unique story. If you're a big time Banjo enthusiast, you could spend 3+ hours there; but for the average person who has a peak of curiosity, 1 to 1-1/2 hours should be enough time
It is the only one of its kind. The experience provided was amazing and the information so kindly given by the wise gentleman at the front was mind blowing. I will never forget my visit to this very wonderful and special place.
The interactive information presented was incredibly well done. The expansive timeline of artifacts and the vast number of pieces housed here is stunning. My perception regarding the origins of this instrument were completely shattered as was my limited understanding of its complexities and reach through cultures and time.
Helpful and friendly staff that are clearly excited to be there. Informative displays that cover the history of the material. A very broad coverage of Jim Henson as he relates to banjos and his works in general that is a real treat and a large collection of banjos on the upper floor from all eras. They also offer classes to teach banjo to interested parties as well as the opportunity to play on some display banjos for the experience. A fun if short lived experience.
This place is awesome. This is more art museum than music museum. The banjos on display are simply amazing. The 1890s through 1930s banjos remind you of the great craftsmen and artists of those times that simply don't exist in our current low-cost outsourced world. So great that this is in OKC.
This museum was interesting and well laid out. At the beginning, they have a quick history of the banjo and then you get to see a huge collection of banjos. My 11 and 13 year old boys quickly lost interest. Not a place for young ones but it was a nice change from the restaurants and few shops in Bricktown. My favorite part was the Philadelphia Mummers section.
Friendly and very interesting. I had time to kill between my jobs while i was in town.
Very informative, clean bathrooms, professionally done, staff was very courteous, and everything you ever wanted to know about Banjos!
Definitely something to add on your "to do list." My teenage daughter who is into music really liked it.
Banjo lessons Saturday at 2 Pm, reservations required (Banjo provided).
Do not forget to go upstairs if you like Roy Clark.
Took advantage of the Smithsonian Day to finally see this well-presented display. We are not musicians, but it was enlightening to see the history and development of the instrument showing its changing role in American culture. So many of the banjos displayed are works of art in themselves. Beautiful. The text actually enriches the understanding of what is seen and the videos and sound bring the museum to life. Glad we got to see the Jim Henson exhibit and the Jim Bollman Collection, as well. Just an overall great afternoon.
We enjoyed our visit here with family from out of state. The exhibits were well laid out and very interesting, including the Kingston Trio exhibit, held over until September 2014. The staff were very helpful and friendly, and we would have stayed longer if our young children were not ready to leave. We would love to come back and plan an event in their Shakey's room on the second floor. Great location with parking nearby.
It was cute and correctly priced with the friendliest lady up front!
Super awesome museum. I'm not a banjo player but I thought it was fantastic. They have a fantastic collection and the Jim Henson section was fantastic and the Celtic players upstairs very extremely talented. I would definitely love to go back!
Went here when visiting OKC and they were having a 1/2 off special so my wife & I got in for only $8. It was pretty interesting seeing the history of banjos as well as the different types. The person at the desk was very helpful. The best part was getting to play the banjo. I was horrible, but it was fun to try it.
I actually stopped still when i entered the first gallery. Amazing!
We loved this so much! The banjos are awesome, we learned A LOT... Although you have to pay a VERY small fee to get in, it was well worth the few dollars!
The museum provides thorough, rich information on the history of the banjo. But the real reason to go is to see the incredible collection of some of the most intricately designed banjos throughout history! Many of the pieces, especially from the 20's and 30's, are quite a sight to behold with the beautifully designed necks, resonators and pots!
Went to this place after saying every time I'm in OKC "We should go to that!!" It's a really cool place. I never knew banjos could be fine art.
The most amazing place to learn about the history of the 4 and 5 string banjo. They have a voluminous collection of all kinds of historical banjos. Exceptionally well done!! 5 stars well deserved for any current or potential banjo player!!
A really great facility with hundreds of banjos from the 1800s to present day. Really informative.
In response to John Johnson's review, he arrived in the final half hour of business on a day when the museum was offering free admission as a promotion. Our stated policy is that the last guest is admitted 45 minutes prior to the posted closing time. When he entered the museum Mr. Johnson was advised that the museum had already admitted its last guest of the day and would be closing as soon as the earlier guests left. He assured the hostess that he would take a quick look around and leave when we were ready to close. To fully experience the American Banjo Museum, guests should plan at least an hour visit to take in all the exhibits. If you're making a special trip to visit us, please plan accordingly and be aware of our late in the day admissions policy.
You'll never find a better banjo museum! Very well laid out, thoughtful, beautiful. Volunteer was knowledgeable and friendly. He even played some banjo for us!
The instruments here are such amazing works of art...each one a masterpiece. Plus...KERMIT!
The museum has very well thought out displays and does a very good job of taking you through the history of the instrument and its variations. It's not a place that will necessarily catch your eye when walking by, but it is well worth your time to stop in!
Great to visit if you love banjos and how they got started in America
The Museum was fantastic. If you are a fan of bluegrass, country and western, Americana , or folk music, it is a must stop. The volunteer staff was incredibly friendly and helpful.
A great place! Go visit it. I got this amazing Banjo earrings from the gift shop! They are cute. Supercute! And there is a huge collection of banjos! Then there is Kermit!!
The kids and I visited this museum the first time as a homeschool field trip. Today we visited again, this time for Learn to Pick a Tune with Lucas. What a great experience and we learned a lot about the banjo! Great staff and impressive museum.
I had a great experience! They do a very good job explaining the history of banjos and the impact on American culture. You won't be disappointed!!
I had fun
Quite an informative place if you're interested in the history of banjos and get to see some of the really ornate ones I was hoping for more banjo music being played but that didn't work out except for recordings
Amazing collection in a well laid out museum. The staff is kind and friendly. Also, if you are lucky, live music by some of the most talented players in the world!
Interesting little collection! It will only take an hour or two to see It, but the history of the instrument is covered well. And so many of the instruments they have are just amazing! So much decorative work!
My family came to see the Kermit the Frog display and it did not disappoint.
If you are into banjos then this would be your Mecca. It has a huge collection and lots of historical information.
Don't want to miss this! Great displays and history notes. Staff can answer any questions you may have. Loved this place and I'm a drummer!
Beautiful instruments and loved the bit of banjo history.
Well worth it and everyone was so kind. Great stop for families
Alot of hard work was put into this and although I may have been bored through it, it wasn't terrible, since I was there with my little family I kinda enjoyed it.
We loved it! Very awesome and neat to see all the designs on the banjos.
If you like banjos, or interested in early American music, you owe it to yourself to take a look.
This is an awesome museum even if you aren't that into banjos or banjo music. There are a lot of really cool banjos in here, and also some Steve Martin memorabilia.
If you are a music lover, banjo fan or Steve Martin fan this is a Must See. If you are none of those like me and just have an hour to kill it's still a good option. It's gift shop carries Oklahoma themed tourist knickknacks in addition to banjo themed ones. Located in the brick town area there a lot of places to grab a bite within walking distance.
Awesome history on jazz and bluegrass and the evolution of the Banjo! They even have a room you can play the Banjo in for free. Be mindful of parking. Check ur tags before heading to downtown okc. They check.
Wonderful exhibits of banjos from the simplest shapes and formats to expensive artistic pieces created by an Artisan's touch. Awesome Roy Clarke exhibit.
Cute little history of the Banjo with a lot of cool looking banjos. Has a little giftshop.
Awesome place with so much great history. The annual Banjo Festival was a lot of fun.
The worlds only banjo museum right in the heart of OKC with someone picking on one as soon as you walk in. Great stop and insane collection of banjos.
More banchos than I knew existed
Good collection of banjos, can learn history also play the instrument.
Really neat place with lots of history. Great place to learn about music too. It is definitely worth stopping at. Perfect ending to walking the canals of bricktown.
I absolutely enjoy visiting this place. So many exquisite instruments, lovely telling of the evolution, and the Jim Henson exhibit is spectacular!
A truly amazing museum! And a huge collection of really beautiful banjos. It was quite an experience.
Fun little museum with some very interesting exhibits. If you are a fan of bluegrass or bank is this is a must see. Even if you aren't it is still a fun trip.
How the history of banjos started, who created them. Everyone needs to visit the museum.
Very friendly staff, they have banjo's you can play with, and many more beautiful ones to look at! Even got to see Kermit the frog!
A ton of history jam packed in this place. Very clean facility and very interesting to learn about the history of this instrument
Great Museum. Banjo learning lab for aspiring players, great history, knowledgeable staff, not very expensive ( about 7 bucks for an adult)
Very clean; they had LOTS of banjos and some cool presentations of the history of banjos
It was great. Learned a lot and the museum itself is very well put together and clean. Staff was very nice.
Unique to visit. Not your typical museum, but a great change of pace.
awesome musuem! loved learning about banjos and I got to see the amazing craftmanship of these instruements...
Great and informative. Much to read and many, many banjos. Great place to pass the time.
Cute little museum, very charming! They also have live music the first Wednesday of the month.
Very interesting museum about the history of the banjo!! Really enjoyed it.
Much cooler than expected! Even the 11 year old was entertained :)
I thought I died and went to Banjo Heaven!
Really neat museum. The detailing on some of banjo's was impressive and was interesting to see the evolution through the ages.
Gotta add my name to list of banjoists
Beautiful banjos, more enjoyable than I thought it would be.
This was a surprising gem. My wife and I really enjoyed learning about the rich history of the American banjo.
Very cool experience for any music lover. Thoroughly enjoyed my time there.
It is a unique niche in Bricktown that tells a story about an instrument we hear but know little about.
Interesting place, also it is possible to play banjo
Such a fun place tucked into downtown OKC. Great way to spend an hour.
Definitely a good part of History. So many banjos , so much art in them.
So interesting! Beautiful banjos. Fun entertainment when scheduled.

The admission price is a little steep, but neat museum.
Just took the tour with Johnny Baier. What a fantastic way to spend the afternoon.

Cool place. Learned a lot about banjos
Interesting, unique collection allows a peak into the past.
Really enjoyed it.
I can't begin to express the feeling of amazement and wonder and over all happiness I felt being there. The layout is perfect,so many things I did not know. Like all the women who played banjo and how important it was in the roaring 20's. So much more to read and see here. We even met two local and very popular artists who talked to us Tyler and Lucus. I can not wait to return!
Awesome experience! So much history and so many banjos. They had instruments from all eras and styles, including some extraordinarily rare banjos. They cover the history of many famous players and instruments, from the banjo’s beginnings to contemporary musicians.
Well, I liked the visit, interesting collection of banjos. If you go to Olkahoma visit it
It's ccr.
