Reviews of Thomas Edison National Historical Park
This was an interesting experience! Walking through the various labs makes you appreciate the trial and error involved with invention.. street is great with great stories. Don't forget to check out the house too
This place is great! All three floors were open to walk around in. The rangers are all super helpful and I feel like I learned a lot about Edison. Although you can’t go in the house, you can walk around the outside. Edison’s grave is there as well as some deer. The whole place is awesome and a nice change from the abysmal New Jersey turnpike. I would love to return once the park fixes the machinery inside. (The ranger said it works, just needs a bit of refurbishment).
This is a very nice national landmark. It provides a complete look at Edison’s genius and how the scientists actually worked, made prototypes, tested, it’s a comprehensive look at not only Edison but also that time in history. The rangers were friendly and helpful, the location is easy to wander around. Be sure to visit Edison’s house, the grounds are nice and quiet.
What a great historical park! The Thomas Edison National Historical Park is divided into two different parts at two different locations. The first park is Edison's "invention factory" at Menlo Park. Here you can see the places that Edison and his employees worked to develop some of the greatest inventions in all of history. The main factory building contains a library that Edison used for research, a music room that Edison worked to develop the phonograph in, a drawing room, and a film room (kinetograph). The factory work floors showcase many of Edison's inventions. Machines that Edison and his employees used are left fully intact for all to see. Mostly everything presented are historic originals.
Across the way from the main factory building is the Chemistry Lab where Edison worked with employees. Again, original equipment is left fully intact in this lab. It was here that Edison created the practical storage battery.
Finally, the main campus contains the Visitor Center with a gift shop. You can also watch a film about Edison in this part of the park. Park rangers and volunteers were friendly and helpful.
The second part of the park is Edison's house called Glenmont. To go to Glenmont you should reserve a ticket ahead of time through the park website. You will have to drive into a neighborhood a little less than a mile away from the Menlo Park laboratory.
The house is a spectacular Gilded Age mansion where Edison, his second wife, and kids lived. The house is located in the first planned community in the US. Although a different owner built the house under suspicious circumstances Edison bought the house and expanded it. All decorations and furniture are original to the house. Perhaps, the house library is most interesting in that none of the books in the house were ever even opened or used.
Edison's garage is one of a kind featuring not only a Model T, but some early electric cars from the 1900's. A greenhouse is also on the property. In the back of the house is where Edison and his wife are buried.
Make sure to go to both places if visiting the park. It is hard to find a better museum of historical importance anywhere.
It was a great facility with a self guided, self paced tour. The grounds of his estate were lovely. We used our National Park Pass.
They say that “A visit to a museum is a search for beauty, truth, and meaning in our lives. Go to museums as often as you can”. The entrance fee is $15. Add this to your schedule when you plan to visit in NJ. I enjoyed the place , staff are very friendly. I think locals should support this kind of establishment to keep it running so that we can have someting to share to our future generation. Schools should start campaign to visit all locals museum to have a better appreciation of how things done before and to honor people who shared their life so we can enjoy our time now.
We had a wonderful time! We were glad to see many people from different states coming to enjoy this American treasure. We learned a lot about Thomas Edison and the beautiful buildings with the contents inside that helped shape America today.
what an amazing job the family has done in preserving his legacy. Everything in the labs are original. Great movies. What an amazing man!!!
This museum is the remaining part of Edison's R&D campus that once hired 10,000 people. The main building has various machineries, tools, lab structures, and Edison's study with a movie screen. All are well preserved. Ticket includes visit to his home in a wealthy neighborhood nearby.
Going here helps me understand much more about Edison as a person. He was not exactly a scientist, he liked to run experiments to find a better way of doing things, better but not completely new. For example he was not the first to invent a light bulb, he just made it last longer. And he made sure his inventions were practical i.e. profitable. Edison knew science but also had business acumen. He recruited top intellectuals to his team, even took the credit of his partners, and engaged in public defamation with his competitors. Anything was for his business. He was probably closer to Elon Musk today, with a little less crazy.
Overall I think the museum is OK. I wished they held in-person tours. I found the staff very knowledgeable and I enjoyed interactions among staff and other guests more than listening to the app. I hope they could also install some sort of digital demonstration of Edison's inventions.
This National Historical Park showcases Edison's work. I knew Edison was an inventor, but thought he mainly did light bulb and electricity. I didn't know he was into movies, music and all sorts of other things. There are two parts to this park, the homestead of where he lived, and the lab, where his company invented stuff. The lab is multiple floors, with machinery, and a library. This is where he and his employees worked to invent and perfect the inventions. Very interesting to see the types of machines and tools used. There is a small visitor center with a few exhibits and several videos covering different topics, including some of the early films he produced.
This is well worth the visit and spend a couple of hours.
Great historical place to visit. Lots of original items saved and on display here. And the building is well maintained and restored very close to the original setup. Library and the machine shop etc are worth visit! So many things to see.
Parking is conveniently located across the park. And national park yearly pass is accepted or you can buy individual tickets as well.
Excellent tour of the house ! Everything is well preserved, the guides are knowledgeable and interested in sharing information. Loved it !! We visited as a family!
The lab was a gem in itself! All floors were well maintained! And the guides were knowledgeable and eager to share information. Very proactive. It's a pleasure and relief that Edison's history and artifacts have been preserved for the younger generation !! Thank you for such a wonderful gift!! A must see for everyone!
Nice place to take a peek back in time at how Thomas Edison was living and working. Great inventor, light bulb, motion picture camera.... they have a replica of a rotating movie studio he made so he can capture great lighting anytime throughout the day. His grave site is there as well.
Wow, this Laboratory of Thomas Edison is amazing, everything is very well reserved and displayed. It’s way better than I expected, love the library, the factory, the machines, the music room……learned a lot and very impressive.
I've been to well north of 100 museums around the world. This takes the stage as one of the top 10.
Fascinating presentation of Edison's machinery and workspace. Lightly attended at least during late October. There is not a lot of narration involved. The experience is really in viewing the building and machinery itself.
What a great place. So much history. The museum has all of his inventions, and the Glenmont is a must see!
It's a great museum to visit especially if you're into how electricity came about. The staff are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. I would review the website and what tours are available before you make the trip
Lots of History. Toward the museum at my own pace. Very nteresting to learn how much Mr Edison accomplished in his life. Rangers on the site where polite, helpful and full of information.
Very cool house with such an interesting history. We couldn't go inside as it was closed but still very neat to walk around the grounds nonetheless. Thomas Edison and his wives' grave are located here as well.
Two places belong to history of Thomas Edison. One is a park with his house and graves. Another-the power plant within a mile where they actually give you a pass to the parking lot at the house of Thomas Edison. Both are a must visit.
I have been before, it's been quite a while and I saw many more exhibits than I saw last time. Tour of Mr. Edison's home Glenmont was a wonderful surprise and worth the outing!
Great place to take friends and family to see the work and lab of Thomas Edison. This is the location of where audio recording was invented, film recording was invented and many more things. This place is very important in the history of the world. Tons of exhibits and great tour guides. Worth the visit.
Such a fascinating place to visit. The park rangers are very knowledgeable and eager to tell you all about Mr. Edison and his works. History is so well preserved at this site, it's like stepping back in time.
Alright... honestly one of the coolest places I have visited ... just being in the same lab that Edison worked in and came up with over 2,332 patents. Thomas Edison was one America’s greatest inventors... and he needs to always be remembered millennials ... you wouldn’t have those gadgets without him.. Seriously feeling grateful for you giving us ability to have 💡 and watch 📽....
The Lab - 20,000 ft of exhibit and 2 floors of laboratories and big plus “self guided” .
The house - is massive and worth every min of the hour tour. It’s first come first serve ! Side
“Fun Fact” if you have time go check out Mrs. Edison’s greenhouse next to the home .. some of the plants were born over time from the original plants in the home .
Guides are walking around ask them questions some of them even knew the Edison family and you can get some fascinating stories
$15 pp... seniors get special deals and if you have the America the Beautiful - National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass ... well best add this place to your places to visit :)
Outstanding historical park. To get to tour Edison's workshops and laboratory was a real treat. The interactive displays with QR codes were a real plus. Make sure not to miss the stockroom, and see if you can find a docent to give you an overview of just how it worked and why it was so impressive!
This is a great place to have the opportunity to learn more about Thomas Edison. It was more than we expected and my kids also finished the Junior Rangers Brochure and received their badges. There is a fee for adults and it's worth it because there are also tours you can attend. Highly recommended.
Great museum, currently doing a self guided experience but the postings they have give you all the information that you need. They have a call in audio service that is also good.
Unfortunately the house is currently closed which I am not sure why but the garage is open and you can see the grounds
In the late 1880’s Thomas Edison built laboratory in West Orange, New Jersey. It was her that Thomas Edison invented the motion picture camera, improved phonographs and improved batteries. The laboratory is large with many different departments. It is obvious that Edison had made some money to build such a large laboratory. The machine shops were powered with a belt system that supplied power to individual machines. You can walk thru the labs, machine shops and others. There is also a vast collection of inventions that Edison and Co. developed. Plan on spending a couple of hours here to get a full sense of the scale and the importance of the site.
I learned so much about Thomas Edison and his work and family life. He was interesting. I thought it was going to be a quick visit. I spent much of the day learning about him.
I scheduled the tour and was not disappointed. It's a beautiful home, and the grounds are so lovely. The guide could only speculate about some of the information regarding the family, but he knew a lot. The mini-pipe organ, multiple pianos and walls really intrigued me. I am now more curious about Mrs. Edison and how she managed her household.
Well maintained historical place. Worth visiting. Gift shop is amazing. We could pick up very good souvenirs.
I always wanted visit here and today I found myself in the area. The first person to greet you is a very friendly park ranger who is very knowledgeable then you can freely walk the grounds and visit the workshop and library which is massive and beautiful and so much more it was fun and definitely worth a visit
I just moved to West Orange and this is just a few blocks away from me. This place is fantastic and informative! So many incredible artifacts and everything is nearly exactly as Edison left it. What a fascinating, self-made man! Make sure to see all the presentations and get tickets to visit his home. Les Williams is an amazing guide at the park - incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about Edison, and a wonderful storyteller! Your receipt is good for 7 days, so if you have the time, you can spread the experience out. I definitely recommend it to both tourists and locals!
Interesting place for young and old. The volunteers and engaged and made the experience enjoyable. Lots to look at, shows many historically important inventions. Excellent teachable moments.
Amazing place showing the history of one of the greatest inventor of all time! Join in the tour of his house too! His house was so beautiful and interesting.
Very nice park volunteers giving us information on Edison.
Went when it was pouring rain. The museum has 3 floors and goes into the details of his life. Wasn't much interactive features.
Great museum for children as well as adults. A bulk of Thomas Edison's work are located there. Also, depending on the ticket one buys, a visit to his house in Llewellyn Park can be had with a docent explaining everything. Beautiful house!!!
Mr. Edison was a beast when it came to ingenuity, determination and creativity. As a fellow inventor and scientist, I hope one day to not only equal Edison's achievements in life, but I intend to challenge him at the post and pass him at the grandstand.
A fascinating look at the actual factory where mass market lightbulbs, rechargeable batteries and phonograph players were produced. Any nerd or budding inventor will love this authentic genius lab. The NPS audio tour is fun to share since it has some behind the scenes stories. Don't miss Black Maria, the clever rotating film studio Edison invented to take advantage of precious daylight while filming. Alert!! Tickets for Edison House Tour have to be booked separately and in advance.
A really neat piece of history. Walking in the same door that Thomas Edison went to work, clock in and clock out everyday for 45 years is beyond cool! Watch the video behind the gift shop/ ticket centre to start.
Such a fun place to check out. The antique tools in the lab are really cool!
It was a lot of fun. All of the rangers there were helpful and informative. Make sure you go to the labs and to the house, they are both incredible!
Great place to walk around on a nice day. The neighborhood has some other very nice properties as well!
Fantastic National Landmark the park service takes great care of the property and their tour is fantastic. A must see if you are in the area and if not make time. Beautiful property.
We totally enjoyed the tour of Thomas Edison's estate. The history of the mansion is quite interesting. We highly recommend it.
Loved this place , Place where magic was born ! Great exhibits and helpful rangers make it interesting, want to come back and learn more about Edison and his fascinating inventions
Highly recommended! Interesting place to visit to learn about the vast variety of inventions Edison made. The $15 entrance fee was very much worth it!
Was here 50 years ago as a Cub Scout. The story about the boy who dropped the first light bulb has stuck with me all these years. The next day, they had another bulb ready to go upstairs for testing. Someone said “Don’t let the kid carry it!” Edison’s response was “I can’t think of anyone who would be more careful than him”.
Entrance fee is pretty high, unless there is some sort of free entrance because of any special event. Free, easy parking. No good restaurant nearby. The entire place can be visited in an hour.
Edison. Need I say more?
This is an wonderful experience to step back in time and walk through Edison's world. Most of the entire factory is just like it was in the 1920s when it operated. There are a few modern thing added to accommodate visitors, but overall, it feels like you are stepping into a time machine.
If you are a fan of history and Architecture, this place is your home.
The staff is nice, I went there on Saturday and it was not so crowded. $15 for adult entrance.
Fascinating slice of history. This well preserved, intact laboratory and factory is where mass market lightbulbs, the phonography, storage batteries and so much we take for granted were all invented. Displays are well labeled and the audio guide narration ($5) is worth it for any nerds in your group. The stories here are legendary with good reason. Amazing to feel Edison's presence in these walls. Don't miss the replica of Black Maria, the first movie studio, out in the lawn.
I grew up on this musuem. First time I came here i loved it and from then on it stuck out in my memory. Been coming here as often as I can, when I want to get inspired to "invent" stuff of my own. Awesome and knowledgeable staff. Its a must go to place when in Jersey.
It was a nice experience being there. The first recording studio in the world and listening to song recorded in 18th century was such an interesting thing. I love his chemistry lab & engineering workshop. The tour guide are knowledgeable and accommodating.
This place is really describing how was thomas Edison the genius man, had more than the electricity, he had factories for many other fields like, wood, leather, even chemistry laboratory...
This place is full of science history and Thomas Edison’s
The combination of Victorian era craftsmanship and nascent mass production is fascinating, even beautiful. While Edison was not entirely the sui generis genius he liked to portray, there’s no question that many industrial firsts were developed and made viable here.
This is a very inspiring historical park. Incredibly informative and comprehensive. It exceeded my expectations and is a great place to visit.
A good 2 hour excursion for kids and adults alike. Please be aware that all of the attractions are indoors and there is no AC (presumably since the buildings are original), so on a summer day those who are sensitive to heat will not do well here.
If you have 3 or 4 people then get one annual membership. It's $15/person or $45 for the pass which includes 1 pass holder + 3 guests
Great park. One of my favorite inspirational people. The start of the modern world as we know it at this time.
The mansion is very well maintained and kept to the way Edison and his family had it when they lived there. The tour guide was very knowledgeable about the house and family which added to the experience. The mansion is absolutely beautiful inside and I highly recommend everyone to see it. The history within those walls is breathtaking.
There's a lot to see and more importantly learn about Edison's life and work. I was not aware of the genius of this man and really appreciated how his research, development, and inventions have changed our world. It was especially nice to learn about a self- made American and his contributions, rather than the wealthy Europeans who came to build 'summer cottages' in the US. I also loved visiting his home, Glenmont and the back story behind its past. The tour guides were extremely knowledgeable and pleasant. It was a really interesting day.
Beautiful place to visit! All of the park officers & volunteers are so knowledgeable.
Educational trip with my family. The library was very beautiful to see. Great look back into time.
Fantastic showpiece of machinery and laboratories used by Thomas Edison. 100s of actual devices to see... first Edison phonograph, etc.
Very interesting site. We didn't allow enough time and will be returning at another time to finish up the visit.
Amazing place with great energetic! Beautiful fabric, but unfortunately Edison house was closed ,it have specific hours and dates when it’s OPen (
What a gem. We learned so much about Thomas Edison and his inventions and his home. It was worth the visit.
Thanks to the staff rangers and volunteers. We brought our men's volleyball team there last weekend. Having been raised in New Jersey I thought that they would truly enjoy this experience, and none of us were disappointed. The players and coaching staff were amazed at the achievements of Thomas Edison and all those who worked with him. To change according to the Lord's pattern I highly recommend this experience for anyone from 5 years old to 500. Truly a national treasure!!!
Wow! What a great place to learn about Edison. Definitely do the house for as well.
Remembered this place as a kid and brought mine on National Park day. It is a great place for some wonderful history and my kids enjoyed it. We probably spent 2-3 hours here, met great and knowledgeable rangers, and completed the Junior Ranger program.
So much to see and learn, and the NPS guides/rangers are so friendly and generous with their time and knowledge. Fantastic place.
I'm in love with this place. Absolutely amazing! It's a New Jersey hidden gem. Stayed for a couple of hours with my husband and son there. Were amazed by Edison's talent and factory.
The Thomas Edison National Historical Park is a great place to learn a bit more about New Jersey's history. Everything there is very well preserved, and it's really fascinating seeing what was going on there at the time. All of the rooms are set up and staged to the point where it almost feels like the shops and offices are still in use. Definitely worth a visit!
Amazing museum and Edison's electric cars. The max range was 211 miles. It is more than many modern EVs have
I loved our visit. Impressive collection and informed guides. Authentic, representative, and well maintained.
You definitely want to get reservations ahead of time for the Glenmont house tour. But also don't miss Edison's garage nearby.
$10 adult entry fee. I did a self guided tour. I stayed as long as I wanted. At noon there was a lecture. Most artifacts there are original. Not a place for smaller children (under 4)
Reach early to get passes for Glenmont estate(Thomas edison's house). Usually these limited passes run out on weekends.
Informative and interesting. Everyone is very helpful and knowledgeable. Go for the Glenmont tour.
Highly recommend visiting this historic home. Truly amazing that everything inside is original!
The museum provided an experience and an insight into the mind of Thomas Edison. The majority of the exhibits were open for viewing. There were several park rangers and staff who were able to provide portions of a guided tour, other parts were self-guided.
What a lovely place! We've been here many times! It's always great to see his laboratory and read about Edison's life and times. A very underrated place to visit in New Jersey and it's covered under the America the beautiful national park annual pass.
Love Ranger Gaye, her passion in storytelling shine through her interpretation of the phonograph.
Great museum! Very very interesting! Must see!!
We enjoyed our visit very much. The park rangers were very helpful and eager to share with visitors. Being able to listen to the original recordings on the phonograph machines was nice.
A great National Historic Park that gives you a real sense of how much of Edison's R&D was done in the late 19th/early 20th century period. The buildings that remain were the R&D facilities and we're in possession by Edison's family after his death until they were given to the Park Service in the 1950s.
The third floor music room was the country's first recording studio, the black Maria (although a replica of the original) was one of the first movie studios. But don't miss the chemistry lab either.
The Junior Ranger program is well organized and can be done in about an hour and a half. Maybe a little less with parental help.
Very enlightening experience here! The original factory buildings crammed with stuff from back in the day. A nice gift shop, ample parking, and four nice short films that tell the story.
If you are an engineer, this is a must see. The library and the shops filled with belt-driven machining tools were impressive.
So many great ideas and inventions! Such a brilliant mind
Great tour guide who answered all our questions.
Very informative. Enjoyed the workshop displays. Videos were worth the history lessons. Glenmont House was closed but it was worth driving to and walking the grounds.
Every single inches of the place has a story behind it. Very nice staff are taking care of the house, office and labs. Every one should see this National Historical Park.
Really educational! Friendly staff. Well worth a visit
Very much enjoyed the walk through the Edison manufacturing plant. The third floor is full of intriguing examples of various inventions as well as iterations of things like phonographs.
We were unable to tour the nearby residence but did takes nice stroll around the grounds. Visited the onsite graves.
History buffs will love walking in the steps of Tom as he oversaw the workplace of his research and innovation. Senior lifetime pass will get your party in at no cost.
They don't allow us to take pictures inside of the house but all staffs were friendly and kind!
There is intelligence in the air. It is an amazing place to visit.
There's not much to see or do on the ground floor, especially since the rooms are all roped off. The garage, greenhouse, and pumphouse outside are slightly more interesting.
It's a great museum, unfortunately all the buildings are closed due to the virus. But usually you can freely explore the grounds and all the buildings. Hopefully when things get back to normal we can enjoy this site again. But I have gone there before and have to give them all 5 stars. Can't hold the new regulations against a really good display.
Unfortunately most of the buildings were closed.
It was very educational for my husband and me, it’s astonishing how a genius single handedly move humanity forward!
Back to operations after pandemic, the museum is an example of industrial archeology and offer to public of all ages the opportunity to see the Edison's laboratory and his ideas becoming true
I hadn't been back here in 35 years. Leaving the north east I had to come back to visit and was not disappointed. Staff have great knowledge and provide great care for this national treasure.
Wonderful "hidden" gem of the NPS. We could have spent many more hours here. Off the beaten path but worth it.
The park is well kept, and the rangers were helpful and had lots of good info for us. I only wish they had their buildings and tours open. However, we got a pass from them to get into the gated community where Edison's house and burial are (which is down the street and off of the National Park land). I have never been treated like a criminal before, but I was as soon as I got into this gated community. A resident walking his dog stared us down as we walked the Edison house grounds and then called security on us. The security guard blocked our car with his so we couldn't leave our parking space until he confirmed (again) that we had a pass. I'm sorry the National Park has to deal with this horrible community, but I can't recommend that someone visit the house. The park, however, is worth a stop.
Really excellent tour of the Estate. It's amazing to hear all of the lesser known facts regarding his family. The tour is guided by a volunteer who had a pretty good knowledge of the facility, though he was a bit curt when it came to answering questions. It was also really nice that the house is decorated for the season. It will be interesting to see if the decorations are different in the spring. If enough people are going, purchase the pass which allows 1 member and 3 guests and is good for the estate and the factory. I can't wait to see the factory next weekend.
Thomas Edison's labs as he left them. The Black Moria rebuilt from photographs. The park rangers do an excellent job of explaining things.
Great museum in the middle of north jersey suburbia. Displays some of Edison's original inventions.
My wife and I were looking for something different to do one Sunday in late summer and out of the blue I suggested the Edison Museum. Had no idea what was there, so we took the ride. I was overwhelmed at all there was to see, starting with the library which they refer to as the first Google. This man and his workers were truly magicians. We'll be going back soon because I want to see it all again and also see his home which we missed on our first trip. Highly recommend!!
A large historic center where you can see a ton of the inventions. My favorite part was visiting Thomas Edison's personal library. It was extremely ornate, beautiful, and inspiring. You truly felt he could walk in any moment and get to work.
It was awesome to see how much space and items they were able to save and preserve. Definitely worth a visit and you can then drive down the road to see his actual home in a private community.
I didn't visit the historical park. I just parked here to charge up my EV for free. I did walk around the are while my car was charging. It is a nice downtown area with many local businesses.
Very informative self guided tour. The rangers were helpful with info and the scavenger hunt for the kids is highly recommended. Check the times for displays and entrance into the laboratory, listening to the cylinders, etc. I would suggest using or downloading a QR Code reader. Several displays had QR codes to scan to hear recordings or watch videos. The grounds were immaculate. It's amazing how the property and possessions were preserved for so long. A step back into history.
The self-guided nature of the laboratory areas can be both a benefit and a detriment. While it's great to wander around to whatever seems interesting, I'm sure I missed some good back-stories behind some of the buildings and artifacts. I found out about the audio tour option only as I was leaving-- that might be a good way to get more value out of a visit here.
I still very much enjoyed seeing the well-preserved state of the various rooms. It's interesting to see both how little and how much has changed since Edison's time.
Must go if you are in the area. It's a special feeling to be where Edison worked and sleeped.
Fun to see all historic inventions. It’s good to have a little background knowledge on the site by watching videos in the visitor center. National Park Pass makes visits free. $15 per adult. Descriptions of some things are lacking, so get an audio guide. The audio tour is amazing. I have visited 16 National Park Sites from Maine to Tennessee. This is one of my favorites. Bring a camera. Check out the chemistry building, the Silicon Valley of the 1800s. The factory is big. Audio guide tour takes 45 minutes without extensions. Each audio guide is $2.50. Music room is fun. Check out phonographs on the 3rd floor of the factory.
Outstanding experience everyone must make a visit
Such a great site. Spent all day here and it was good even on a rainy day!
What a gem!! Highly recommend this site for families or any history / inventor buffs. They have over 400,000 artifacts in the collection! That's the most complete Edison-related collection in the world. There are tons of sample inventions displayed, and the rooms are set up to look like it did back in the day.
I thought this place would be crowded on a weekend, but it really wasn't bad. Keep an eye out for the buildings/rooms that are open for specific times or ranger talks. The rangers provide talks about certain things (the phonograph talk was very popular) or certain rooms (the chemistry lab was only open for brief times). Highly recommended.
We took 3 kids (11, 9, 4 yrs old) and had a great day during the NPS Centennial birthday celebration. The kids received some junior park badges for completing a fun activity book and they also made their own play-dough with the park rangers.
This site is extremely well maintained, and it's a significant part of US history. Not to mention the many legacies of Edison's entrepreneurial spirit - motion pictures, electric light, telephones, microphones, batteries...
Absolutely fascinating. It's hard to comprehend just how much stuff Edison and Co. invented until you walk through the collection. If you're the kind of person who likes to breeze through a museum, you might not be here long, but if you want to take it slow and drink in every little bit, expect to spend a couple hours to take everything in.
I didn't know that it is a National Park. So it's run by the Rangers! They were actually very nice to us. I was with an 11 years old boy, my nephew. He wasn't too thrilled I brought him to a museum, but at the end of the tour he was very happy.
Even though the park is huge, like dozens of buildings only the main one where Edison had his office and library, plus machinery of all sorts, plus the small one at the entrance are for the most part accessible.
Kids are free. Adults only pay 10 bucks and one can reuse the ticket within a week.
Kids get an activity book and that kept him busy and interested all along. He completed the minimum to get a Rangers badge at the end, with swearing and all.
What is remarkable is that everything is intact as he died. They have done a tremendous job in keeping it pristine.
They have the sonogram exhibit a couple times a day and we hit it at 3.30 pm. It's like 20 something minutes and it was fantastic! All the kids were quiet and the Ranger kept us all so immersed into... We learned a lot for a 3 hours the most trip. Ah, parking is across the street and it's also free. It wasn't crowded at all and there were Rangers all along that were willing to answer questions and help with the activity book.
Very Interesting
Better than I expected. A lot of friendly, very knowledgeable park rangers willing to share all the info they have. You walk through the actual workshops and labs with nothing but some short metal fences between you and the original machinery . No glass to stand behind. Just like a walk through time. Am interesting movie of Edison's home and family life. What a magical, wonderful, creative life anyone associated with him had.
Such a cool place. Military get in for free. Everyone there is so friendly and knowledgeable. Thomas Edison lived such a cool life. There is also a place to go see where he use to live. Cool to see all the different inventions. A great place for families and kids. Wheel chair accessible and very accommodating for everyone. Come see a piece of history. You will for sure learn something that you never have before.
Fascinating museum that highlights the life of an amazing inventor. I went with my 6, 4, and 2 year old and did the junior ranger program. They loved it! There are several activities for children. I highly recommend it for families.
Great to see the machine shops, chemistry lab, and other areas
This is one of the coolest places to go and see. The park rangers were very informative about some of the history of the labs. We didn't get a chance to see Edison's home. I believe you have to get tickets a head of time for that, which are limited, so be sure to check on that before visiting.
It was just before an hour of closing time when I visited. The staff are very nice and friendly. Some of them have a good sense of humor also! They explained the stories, the good and bad side of Edison, his inventions, his relationship with his workers and other people. Surely a must visit place in New Jersey. Lot to learn. Must visit in the morning so that we can spend more time.
The guides and rangers were wonderful! We spent a lot of time speaking with both Mr. Cohen and Mr. Williams after the tours they gave, and thoroughly enjoyed their information, stories, and enthusiasm for their topics. I absolutely loved the state of preservation in the buildings The exhibits were fantastic, and I was very impressed with being able to see into the curatorial rooms housing additional objects. Our girls were delighted with the Junior Ranger program, too!
So much interesting stuff to see and learn!
I am proud of our national park, its history amazes me. How many years have passed and it's still the same.
Loved it. Great history in the building. TOUR GUIDE was very knowledgeable She took the time to explain everything to the children without getting frustrated with the constant questions. AWESOME PLACE FOR KIDS TO VISIT. ONLY DOWN SIDE IS no real place to eat because of the nature of the museum.
A fantastic visit.
I was just unsure where I could and couldn't go at times. Some of the signage could be a little more clear or ropes across the doors where we were not supposed to go. As a man with bad eyesight some of the signage could be larger on your exhibits.
Still a fantastic opportunity to learn about Edison's at work...
Great muzeum. I would say that its a Great płace to visit briefly with smaller kids and just to get an idea. If you are really into a first inventors or history of sound and motion picture then you will stay there for hours. I just wish that there would be more descriptions on some machines for people that are not that advanced in the Edison’s work.
An important piece of American (and Industrial) history. It is a massive factory packed full of artifacts. It can be a bit overwhelming and lacking context. As we strolled, I had an odd sense of nostalgia (from my father's and grandfather's collections) as well as a strong desire to rummage. Several pieces were fascinating and unseen before.
Visiting Glenmont the house was the highlight of my experiences. The manor (mansion) is actually one of THE most beautiful buildings I've ever had the pleasure to experience.
When visit, make certain to arrive early at the park and get your house-tour tickets. There is a limited number of tours available for the house, and they are scheduled by the hour. Once you visit the house, leisurely stroll through the multi-floor factory at your pace. I would recommend the Audio tour, unless you have a techno-family who has well versed you on all the myriad of items you will be seeing.
This tour could be an all-day tour (if you stretch it out), or you could pull it off in 2-3 hours (if you rush the factory tour).
As ever, the National Parks sites are good value: $10 for an adult, < 16s free. This is a great place to visit and spend 2-3 hours. Make sure to catch the Ranger talks: we managed the Chemistry Lab one and the Phonograph one.
Edison was prolific and not perfect. But the extent of his invention engine and his ability to commercialise a good number of its outputs was a pivotal turning point in industrial development.
I can only wonder where we would be if the world hadn't discovered and become addicted to oil and he / his team had continued with their electric cards, batteries and bio-plastics work...
About as expected. I liked that it is so well preserved.
Wow! Fascinating place even when the weather outside is frightful. Something for everyone here. Science nerds and history buffs of every age, don't miss this gem! Plus a sweet story of love and family and a Victorian home so beautifully preserved it will make you cry. Friendly, knowledgeable, engaging park staff relay the stories and answer every question with enthusiasm and accuracy. A delightful afternoon!
Place was good. Missed a guide or guided tour. Some working models would make the place more interesting.
I have studied Thomas Edison since his childhood. To be in his factory - museum was very remarkable, specially for someone coming as a tourist from abroad. It was an honor to see how an idea of a bulb culd transform a whole world. I enjoyed the sound room very much. I encourage schools to include field trips into their curricula; a guided tour is a must. Museum is highly and professionally managed. Staff is welcoming and knowledgeable. All was impeccable. Thank yu for keeping his legacy alive to humanity.
This National Park is the site of quite a few of Edison's actual workshops. The buildings are very well preserved and give the visitor a sense of the creativity that came from the mind of one of America's most prolific inventors and businessmen. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, and the large multi-story warehouse serves as both time capsule and museum. From his workshop and laboratory, Edison could build just about anything his mind could dream up!
Be sure to check out the replica of the Black Maria, an early movie studio that rotated to capture the light of the sun, as well as footage of some of the first movies ever made.
Great place to take the kids on a family day out. Our 9 year old twins had a great time (as did we) and they learned a lot at the same time. The rangers/volunteer staff were very helpful and very willing to share their knowledge about the inventor and his lab facility. We would highly recommend a visit there.
Very good activity at DC specially when it's free! feed your knowledge
Very interesting. The house is gorgeous, I highly recommend the tour.
What a great experience, so much history. We had a wonderful time touring the buildings. The Glenmont mansion is absolutely gorgeous. Ranger Mike, our tour guide was a delight.
We tour a lot of historic homes throughout the nation, this one is a gem. Not only is it replete with original pieces in situ but having a Park Ranger as a real human guide is wonderful. Yes, audio tours are all the thing but, asking questions of knowledgeable people is the only way to get the full benefit of historic home tours. Well done!
Fascinating place! Feels like a working lab where everyone has gone on their lunch break and could be back at any time - nothing like a stuffy museum. Parking is a little tight, especially if there are lots of visitors. Rangers were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.
Stunning experience. Edison was the inventor behind cinema and recorded sound. The custodians of the museum are sweethearts and engaged experts. Can not recommend this museum enough. A true experience. And afterward go to the nearby American diner for a Reuben sandwich :)
The rangers are super friendly and knowledgeable. We had a great time learning about the Black Maria and seeing the workshop and lab.
This is a wonderful historical site that transports you back to a time when America was first flexing its technological muscle. Thomas Edison was a prolific inventor at a time when electricity was becoming useful and the public was in awe of recorded music and moving pictures. Wandering around the restored laboratories and offices gives the visitor a sense of the intensity Edison brought to research and development. The experience of an early wax cylinder sound recording is amazing, considering the way these recording were made. You can see his recording studio too.
We arrived early to the museum and received passes to go to the Glenmont Estate (Edison's house) about an hour or so later. The best thing about both of these locations is that almost everything you see is original. I am often disappointed when I go to museums and they are loaded with reproductions but that is not the case here. Edison was a fascinating, brilliant man and I learned a great deal about him. Admission is free with a National Park pass!
A fascinating piece of history worth visiting. And quite aside from the remarkable artifacts of Edison's day, it puts the advancement of science and technology into perspective. I hadn't realized that Edison pioneered medical x-rays or that some of the cars of his day were powered by batteries he developed.
The museum is like a huge warehouse of items associated with inventor Thomas Edison. You can stroll through his massive machine shop where he built and developed products -- which was described as being equipped to make everything from "a locomotive to a lady's watch." Or view his favorite work space where he liked to go and think. Or you can handle one of his early records. The exhibits are not very professionally done -- much less polished than you would expect in a major museum. It's interesting, but could be presented better.
This is a very neat place to visit. Amazing amount of history contained in just a few buildings and left as it was when Edison worked here. I'm glad I was able to share this experience with my 13 yo daughter.
Very interesting self guided tour of Edison's work. Staff is helpful and friendly.
We've been wanting to make a trip to the Edison National Historical Park for some time. Yesterday, we finally did and it more than exceeded our expectations! We thoroughly enjoyed our entire experience. When we called ahead, we were advised to arrive before 10 am when tickets to Edison's home, Glenmont, were available to purchase for a tour. We arrived about 10:15 and the soonest tour that was available was for noon. We had some time before our tour began to watch an interesting film about Edison right in the visitor's center. Then, we went into the first building right across from the VC which housed his study, a lovely, 3 story structure. We still had a little time before our tour of Glenmont was scheduled so we went to the third floor of that same building to hear a ranger (Bill) give a demonstration and short history of Edison's invention of the phonograph that was great.
We have visited the laboratory. Exciting! A lot to see, hear and learn.
The exhibitions are good, but the most value comes from the audioguide and, most importantly, the lectures given by the park employees! Make sure to attend at least some of them. One lecture even includes a live demo of a phonograph!
A note for future visitors: some buildings are closed for entrance, and you are expected to explore them from outside while listening to audioguide, so prepare for the weather - it might be raining or just cold.
Very informative museum! Great displays and knowledgeable staff. I enjoyed the presentation of the phonograph. The photo was taken inside the machine shop. Definitely a great place to bring kids and the family.
Interesting place! I grew up in Orange but it took me 65 years to get here.
Lots to see here.
Great place! It is worth a visit even for those who are not interested in science, because it is our story that need to know everything. We use his inventions every day. Cool to see where it's all Thomas Edison invented. Highly recommend this place!
Great place to visit with the family! The rangers were awesome and very helpful. Very educational and our entire family enjoyed our visit. Children under 16 are admitted free. Adults are $15.00 to enter.
Good place to know about the famous Thomas a Edison. $10 entry fee, but no one did check ours 😁. Building consist of different laboratories. They have different interactive sessions in between where ranger comes and tell us about history. Good for those who are interested in history and want to see antique stuffs. Don't forget to take your selfy with Edison on 2nd floor main building 😁
Really cool to see the history of Thomas Edison. You realize that he was more of a Steve Jobs than a Nikola Tesla in that he was very business minded and competitive...which drove his inventions. Fascinating to see all his tools for tinkering and his dedication for gadgets. I would check it out if nearby and have a day off.
Amazing National Park site with a fascinating history, amazing architecture and very impressive collection of artifacts. I went in with high expectations and they were exceeded greatly.
Lots to see, learn and appreciate about this historical gem. The real stuff too, not recreations like at a lot of other historical sites. Something for all ages. Kids under 16 are free. Adults $15
If you are in the area stop by, you will leave feeling inspired. Great place for children, mine were 7 and 9 yrs old and they learnt a lot and had a great time. They love doing the junior ranger activities.
It was nice learning more about thomas edison. And his home is beautiful.
I only looked around the National Memorial Hall, but the surrounding environment did not look as good as I thought. How about adding vitality to tourism because there are related industries?
We used our National Parks Pass and got in free. If you have 4th grader and join a Parks Program (free) your child and 3 adults can get in free. The place was well worth the visit. This is a hidden gem.
Being an electrician I had my reservations of Thomas Edison due to Nicholas Tesla's slighted historical recognition of contributions that have shaped our very existence with that being said I was amazed at all of the things that Thomas Edison was involved with he was a good businessman in a time when Innovation and creations were abound. It truly changed my perception of Thomas Edison and would definitely recommend this place to every and any Tradesman and historian with a zest for the visualization of the manufacturing process of that time.
Very interesting visit. Edison was one of the most creative and productive entrepeneurs ever lived. His story is inspiring. During the visit we heard the story of the phonograph and watched a demonstration of one of the early (1910) phonographs. Fascinating!
Thomas Edison National Historical Park is more of an old time office complex and museum that contains the wonderful inventions of Thomas Alva Edison and his team. If you approach this park/ museum with the proper perspective you can't help but be amazed. It's a historical compilation of all the inventions developed during the life of Thomas Alva Edison. You have to think of the fact that all this was invented, marketed and sold during that time. Edison was clearly more than just an inventor, as he was also an astute businessman who helped get his products into the hands of those who could use them. I loved the place. If you take the time to read and listen to the various tapes, tools and inventions you will wonder how so many inventions were invented and even more importantly you will see that a lot of what was invented is in use today and or, there are many new iterations of his inventions in use today. You will also find that the staff, is extremely helpful and very friendly. If you are into history, it is definitely worth a visit.
This is a very nice place to vist, to see and understand the various contributions that Edison made (not just the light bulb!). His life his work spot etc. When you visit here its like going back in time to the late 1800 to early 1900. You can expect to spend about two hours or so here.
We quickly stopped by in the free time we had before needing to head to the airport. This was an unexpected highlight of our travels. Highly recommend.
Such a cool place! Well worth the short drive to visit it.
So interesting to learn about Edison's personal, as well as, professional life. His control of his patents both helped and hindered some of his inventive processes and professional relationships. Try to take a tour if each section. There is a lot to be learned.
Amazing to learn about the focus, determination, hard work, persistence, and vision of Edison in the pre computer age! Grounds are nicely kept and docents are well informed. Plenty of space for kids to move freely outdoors.
Rangers are great with mixed ages, very passionate about the history, don't shy away from questions or addressing the darker parts of the history. Beautiful park and lots of effort and care shown in the preservation.
This man had over 1000 patents. Many of which were born in this lab. His commitment to solve problems is very evident by the scale and breadth of equipment he supplied his workers. I would have lived to be alive during that time and work there!
What a cool museum. The rangers and volunteers are knowledge and very happy to answer your questions. I highly recommend giving yourself plenty of time for your visit because there is so much to see and enjoy.
One of the coolest museum I have ever been to everything is left the way Edison had it when he died. You can literally reach out and touch a hundred years of history well worth it.
Loved this. If u have an elder visiting, start by takinh them along and get a Senior pass. This requires their id to confirm date of birth. This costs much less and also provides u with access to other National Parks for reduced fee or for free.
Very interesting history. Many things about Edison that I wouldn't consider common knowledge. We hope to go back to tour Glenmont. BTW, we have never met a Ranger that wasn't cheerful, helpful, and interested. Cudos to the NPS!
I really enjoyed the experience, I had went there with my school as a field trip. I had enjoyed what I've seen and the guide was so nice and answered all if our questions. I would totally recommend going here to anyone!
So beautifully restored and displays.
My 10 year old girls loved the adventure of doing thetasks to become a Jr. Park Ranger and they found it interesting. I found it interesting too. Lots to see, not much to touch. Nice people
House was not open but the outside is beautiful in the garage is amazing with the old time electric cars.
Great place to take teenagers- my 1 year old didn’t seem to care. Closes at 4pm, only got a chance to visit for 40 minutes but the day pass was good for 24hrs.
If History needed a place to have all of it's things it should be here. No other place on Earth has made an impact on life like Mr Edison's property! From electricity to the phonograph, the record, The movie camera the movie studio the list goes on and on and on thank you Mr. Edison you have changed the world forever!
I had no idea this museum was here or I would have came sooner. Lots of good historical inventions and factory tools used. The tour and demo of the original phonograph was cool.
Very interesting original artifacts and NPS lectures. Be sure to plan your visit ahead as some areas are only accessible during the NPS exhibits which happen as infrequently as once a day. The chemistry lab was a particular delight.
Have driven field trips to Thomas Edison's Laboratory, each time the audience, the elementary school children were speechless in awe. A definite must see for any age. Allows minimum of three hours to see the laboratory. Glen Caren was being renovated at the time and not open to the public.
Good to hear about Edison, not particularly interesting for 7 and under...
The tours of the workshops and particularly the chemistry lab really show the amazing extent he went to for working on his ideas. There are so many artifacts and first-of-a-kinds to see.
How a genius engineer devoted skills to create industry
An amazing piece of history in New Jersey. Visit the machine shop, the lab, and more to get a glimpse into the mind and work of Thomas Edison. There are seemingly endless artifacts to observe. A must see!
So much awesome information, great staff. Definitely a place you should go
I loved the smell of the 2nd floor machine shop! Lathes EVERYWHERE! Never seen such incredible machinist tooling in one place. Not a CAD CAM in sight!
Extremely interesting how Thomas Edison set up his invention lab back before 1900. Fascinating buildings to Tour.
Amazing place to visit we loved it must visit 🎥💡📣🎬📽 …
The Thomas Edison Museum is pretty amazing in that it has a lot of old tools and projects and work from 100 years ago. There are phonographs and light bulbs and examples of Thomas Edison's work and life all over. I just would have liked it more if there were more demonstrations, although I realize it is difficult to get things to work that are 100-125 years old.
Very authentic work space. It even smells like it did about 90 years ago. It really is close to the equivalent of today's startup incubators where the next "big thing" may be invented. However many things are not well labeled and it is not that interactive, so it may not be great for those under (maybe) age 8.
Very interesting site - literally tons of Edison's equipment is still there! The tour guides really know their stuff - very informative, especially for kids.
Nice architecture, clean, well organized.
Had a great time. Very happy to see how many original artifacts still in place and so well maintained. Just a heads up, the parking is across the street from the entrance.
Everything is basically closed. But, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They answered questions and provided some insight into the incredible accomplishments of Thomas Edison.
A lot of interesting information and stuff to see. I love the enthusiasm with which the staff works there. Mike's tour through the house was my highlight :-)
Great place, after visiting we realized the true need to continue innovating. Recommed the Jr Ranger to all ages to get a good understanding of why Thomas Edison is in our history books.
A trip to this place is so worth it! I feel is underrated compared to other go-to places in the state. It's very educational and informative. A great visit for the whole family to learn.
Wow they saved all of Edison’s stuff! Labs, libraries, papers, everything. Friendly staff will show you creepy talking doll he invented along with all the important stuff
The rangers were very informative
First time there. Very historic
An afternoon of submersion in the life of Thomas Edison. The combination of film clips, factory, and family home give you a complete picture of the man and his inventions. The grand factory building is well preserved and quite beautiful––a great claim for retaining and repurposing these historic brick factories along the eastern seaboard.
If you want to see the Edisons' electric cars and charging station, get tickets for Glenmont as well... Mainly a stately home tour, though, so that bit is optional.
Amazing estate, came here directly after seeing his workshop. Nice tour with very ineresting history & items to see. Beautiful grounds!
Closed except for weekends and grounds are completely gated so there is no access to property except during business hours
Great experience and lots of tidbits of information. Wished more was open to see
It is always great to be able to see history as it happened. This national park brings history to life with amazing rangers and a wealth of knowledge. Looking forward to returning.
This place was even better than we expected. The interior of the labs is well preserved. The library is amazing! The staff are knowledgeable and passionate.
A remarkable walk through a transformational man's life and an era not-so-long past.
Must see. T. Edison was an inspiration to all scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs. Kids loved it and so did I! Make sure to get your NPS passport stamped!
A really great look back at Edison's inventions
NPS has done a great job preserving Edison's laboratory and home. Ranger talks given throughout the day are well worth it. The home was beautiful.
This was the laboratory of Edison. You can also visit Edison's house near by. There is a demonstrations of an old gramophone. It is amazing that all this inventions happened not so long ago.
It was really really fun and like it was said before the staff was nice and helpfull at his best.
It is good to bring the family and friends to have a good time, gonna come back soon, good to have fun.
Cool.
Interesting laboratory, helpful staff.
The house tour was awesome but the main site was surprisingly boring and lackluster (mainly just large equipment with little blurbs). For 15 dollars, we were expecting a little more
It was great, drove past it as I was working. I'll never forget my time there, highlight of my week.
Good place to let my kids know about Edison.
Loved the place and my kid and I learned a lot
Very interesting museum with lots of history. I found this museum fascinating.
Not much to do for toddlers but it is an incredible place to learn about Edison and his legacy! Ther rangers have a wealth of knowledge!
This place is such a treasure! It opens your eyes to the inventor's world and the physical space in which ideas came to life. This place is well preserved. A must see!
Get the audio tour. Excellent for more facts and details. We went on a Sat and it wasn't too busy and the rangers gave great demonstrations!
Awesome displays and easy walking around. Great for kids of all ages who want to know about the Wizard of Menlo Park.
One of the greatest places to go on earth. Everyone should see at least once in their lives. Without Edison or this place; most of what we have would not be.
I thoroughly enjoyed learning more about Thomas Edison didn't realize he invented so much was the first movie producer I even saw the first motion picture stage
If you like technology, this is a must do. Superb presentation of what has been one of the most important places for innovation on the world.
Great trip to one of the most important Americans we have. The Laboratories are all still in tact and the tour is great!
Had a power outage while we were there, but for the most part it was an interesting site with knowledgeable park rangers to guide your visit.
Anyone coming to New Jersey must visit Thomas Edison National Park's Museum to appreciate Edison's inventions beyond his first commercial light bulb.
It has lots of artifacts and items on display related to Mr. Edison and his scientific work. But only one building was open to see. Chemistry lab was closed when we visited
Very informative and great employees. Thank You. Great place to learn history.
Remarkable displays on the factory site. Two Ranger talks (development of sound recorsibgs and if lightbulb) and film of Edison's nearby home.
The Edison House is still closed due to covid bs.
Fascinating display of period artifacts created by a unique genius. Well laid out, knowledgable park rangers. Highly recommended.
Awesome place for teenagers even if they say boring at a first glance. The Edison laboratory inspires and educates. Underrated gem!
Fascinating trip into NJ and USA history. Dark, no flash or tripods, so if you go to photograph, bring a fast lens.
Great experience.. If you enjoy science it is a good place to spend some time.. It is great how everything is preserved and showcased
Wonderful history and great staff
The historic preservation here is beyond compare, is very well maintained, and all the staff here are amazing and very knowledgeable. I had a wonderful visit.
Visited today (just from outside) but didn't get a chance to go inside because it's closed due to covid 19.. the staff is helpful and friendly, will change the rating once we are able to go inside!
Very interesting! Glenmont (Edison's house tour) is worth seeing too. Parking across the road
I HATE museums. I went to over 200 in the past few years. But I actually like this one. It’s worth it.
A great learning experience for all ages
The Park rangers took the time to make our visit extremely enjoyable.
This is a park on the smaller side, but it is a must to visit. The staff is great and they put on great talks with tons of fun facts.
great place for am afternoon visit.
When start-ups were creating employment and not just financial gains for the owners!
Some areas were closed for renovations but the labs and shops are a terrific look into the beginnings of organized research.
Fascinating! Discovered a new facade of Edison - A scientist- businessman that that too a successful one , wow! And the the ubiquitous GE is his company !
Great place to learn about Thomas Edison!
would have been 5 stars if they had the collectable couns/tokens. staff was very friendly and helpful
What a great place! Rangers were extremely helpful. A must see.
Fantastic. The rangers were very helpful.
Fascinating place. Great program demonstrating the capturing of audio in the Music Room. Very helpful rangers.
Love this place! We came in the last hour before closing and the park rangers are very accommodating and informative.
Staff was AMAZING! No question left unanswered. Plus it's awesome to know you are walking down the same hallways as Thomas Edison!
Great place to see Edison's lab, get a sense of history and how incredible innovative Edison was. Apple and Steve Jobs in comparison, is just a copycat.
Unique history. But lot of areas are not open. Edison house tour is severely limited. Very dissatisfied.
Great place to visit and learn history
This is the best place to inspiré kids
And not expensive
Go here if you get a chance.
A nice place to be with family and friends to some historic and beautiful land to see.
Went there years ago. Still remember it well. Made a lasting impression.
Very cool place for the fans of Edison
I love it
Not much to say as you all know what this place is about. Tour guide are really nice.
If you're in the area, take the time to stop and check out Edison's old factories/work shops. So much rich history here, you won't go wrong.
So much to see . Lots of daily ranger talks. Plan on spending a couple of hours. Get the audio guide!
I thoroughly enjoyed the historical legacy, inventions, facilities, locations and attributes made for and from Thomas Edison 💡🔌🎞📷📽 …
The house of Thomas Edison. Even overlooking that, it's a museum, a peek at the style and fashion of long ago. Entrance is allowed only as a part of a guided tour.
What an awesome place for learning! Kids should definitely try the junior ranger program.
Very cool place! Get to learn a lot about Edison that you may not have known.
Very interesting place, we had a live presentation where an old fashioned telegraph was played, it was pretty cool.
Very informative and amazing staff. I went with the kids but I being a history buff enjoyed myself more than the kids LOL
Fascinating place to learn about this remarkable man and his inventions. Our Park Ranger was knowledgeable and enthusiastic.
Great place to visit. Lots of parking, and an excellent staff of volunteers and rangers.
Outstanding piece of history and an important part of the legacy of scientific advancement and entrepreneurship in the United States.
Very interesting, part of our American history, a place to visit, especially with family. There was a lot that I dif not know about Edison
Very interesting. A great piece of history. National park pass = free entry.
Well except for no kudos to Tesla what an amazing museum. And that house is spectacular.
Fascinating interactive tour of the edison labs. What creativity man exhibited before there was tv!
I found it a lil disorganized, although still very interesting. It took my friend and I about 1 hour to go through all of it.
Very interesting self tour of the labatory. If you like history it is worth the stop.
The rangers we're very friendly and helpful. It was a great experience for adults and kids.
Great experience. Park Rangers are very knowledgeable and friendly. An afternoon well spent.
Fascinating presentation of the life and work of a real revolutionary, who took invention to new levels using teamwork with qualified professionals.
Must place for a visit.
Amazing place.. history like you would not believe! Must see!
Was interesting but only was able to see the grounds outside because of the pandemic
A great place to travel back in time where so many important inventions were created.
Such an amazing place to visit with kids to motivate them. Awesome.
Newly restored, this is a rare jewel in New Jersey to see the actual site where so much of the modern world's technology was worked on.
Very educational. My kids loved it and so did us adults.
Home of the great American inventor. Amazing what Edison did.
Don't miss the talks.
Highly recommend for its compact historical content that spans outside the U.S. at the turn of the 19th century.
Beautiful place with a great historical background on invention. Very well kept
They Might Be Giants wrote a song about this place, which is now very out of date. It is amazing. 1900 does high tech.
So much to learn about the man and his work. This place was an invention factory, with most of them on display, and in working order.
wonderful exhibits and knowledgeable park rangers...super kid friendly!
Pretty amazing. Not necessarily great for kids though, unless yours are really into inventing things or old tech.
Well organized, multiple buildings to explore, and an amazing experience overall.
Couldn't go inside!! Grounds are beautiful..
Very fun, interesting, and educational. Make sure you go to Glenmont!!
Fun experience and learning opportunity. Great history of an incredibly interesting historical figure.
Very interesting , great staff and the tour of the personal home a big bonus👍👍👍 …
Was a great day trip to see all the great history from Thomas Edison and his factory.
I plan to take my children when they quarrel, and nothing will quell them.
This is the original tech incubator! The laboratories are endlessly fascinating. An inspirational experience.
Close to home & saw a piece of history in my own neighborhood. Very cool!
Beautiful sights lots of history shown
Lot of historic things to enjoy
Fun outing for the family, pretty short time needed to explore everything, great history
Loved it, house was closed but plan to go back!
Great place to visit. A lot of antiques and gifts from Edison's home.
Knew about the significant inventions & improvements, but had no idea he had invented SO MUCH . The most patents ever - WOW!
Didnt know this place even existed. Were only there for a moment and realy want to go back, maybe do a tour.
Extremely interesting. Very knowledgeable staff with a lot of exhibitions
Interesting exhibit that could have been better curated/ tied together.
Truly amazing historical site, we learned so much we didn't know
Nice place to spend 2-3 hours. Maintained nicely, but hugely underappreciated.
All you need is imagination and 1000 failed trials to succeed.. publishing more than 1000 petitions- Thomas Edison
History at it's finest. Park rangers are friendly and well educated on the subject.
Fascinating Museum great location very well-preserved
Such a wonderful place to visit, both the laboratory and Glenmont!
A great piece of history. Would recommend anyone to go and visit!
This is really cool. I enjoyed photography there and land a lot.
Very informative! I loved the walk through museums!
Great place to visit lots of cool history to learn
If you wanna feel an ecclectic blend of History and Science, Do visit🤩🤩 …
Pretty cool 2-3 hours but not an entire day imo
Very clean. Rangers very friendly & helpful. Lecturers well information!
The home of many of Edison's inventions. An in depth look at Edison's work methods and life.
Great day trip option
Interesting and authentic. Worth the effort for kids and adults. A bit expensive.
Disappointed that we couldn't tour the house. Get there early. It was sold out by noon when we got there.
Amazing museum. Well worth the visit!
Very inspirational history of one of the greatest inventors.
Interesting museum with plenty of turn of the century displays.
Interesting place to visit if you're in town. Dogs are not allowed.
