Reviews of Liberty Hall Museum
The Museum itself is very cool for anyone interested in Georgian era and all around antique artifacts and information. But it was a little confusing to find the building at first, and the tour experience was a bit lacking in the “tourist” aspect. There’s no real way to sit and enjoy the garden and you’re kind of left waiting in the gift shop until they have enough people there to start the tour. The buildings were very cool and the guide gave a lot of fun information! It would’ve been nice to have the option of taking some photos in certain areas with your group. We did however enjoy ourselves and actually went back to considering getting married there. Unfortunately, there really is no AC or a way to control the temperature in the carriage house, which is the only other space usable if you don’t want the outdoor tent. The actual Museum (House) is not an option and the bathrooms were more along the lines of park bathrooms. We had a nice time at the Museum and the gardens are very beautiful, but in all it would be nice to elevate the experience.
THIS PLACE IS VERY BEAUTIFUL, VERY NOSTALGIC, THE REPRESENTATIVES ARE SO NICE AND HELPFUL, MY FAMILY WENT TO THE MUSEUM TO BUILD GINGER BREAD HOUSES, AND SHOPPED IN THE GIFT SHOP, WE ENJOYED OUR SELVES VERY MUCH SO, WE ARE FROM NEW YORK, WE TOOK THE N.J.T THEN HOPPED IN AN UBER THE REST OF THE WAY, THE TRAIN RIDE WAS ABOUT A HALF AN HOUR AND THE CAB RIDE WAS ABOUT 15 MINUTES OR LESS BUT THE EXPERIENCE FOR MY DAUGHTER WAS WORTH IT , YOU PAY PER PERSON BUT WE DIDN'T GET SEPERATE GINGER BREAD HOUSE'S BUT WE PAID SEPARATE FEES PER PERSON I DIDNT LIKE THAT OR UNDERSTAND THAT, BUT WE STILL ENJOYED OUR SELVES, DESPITE THE FACT
Interesting historical site. Always pretty with their Christmas decorations. Some of the 2nd floor rooms are open again!
An absolute gem of a find right on the Kean University property. Highly recommend setting up a tour thru the home then allowing time to walk around.
Nice slice of 18th Century America history—and just a 50 minute drive from Brooklyn, NY. Beautiful grounds. Wonderful collection of decorative arts, painting, prints, and ephemeral material fro the Livingston and Kean families. Our guide was knowledgeable, engaging, and very charming! Highly recommend this place.
Loved it...even on a really hot day. Robert was extremely knowledgeable about the gardens and the mansion. He was also funny which made the tour more enjoyable. We were accompanied by two docents in training who added to the tour. I would like to go back in cooler weather!!
This a very special place. Absolutely amazing to see the actual furniture and belongings and how the families lived throughout the years. Both the house and gardens are beautiful. Tour was excellent.
What a great tour! Our guide was Sandra, who made the tour so very interesting with all her knowledge of the Livingston, Kean, et. al. families. We loved touring the grounds, the firehouse and the residence with Sandra.
Interesting house tour with original furniture from house owners. Beautiful grounds and orchard.
Little known museum documenting the Livingstin and Kean family through the centuries. Beautiful original period pieces and portraits show how a class of people lived. Hourly small group tours guided by knowledgeable docents. An enjoyable day trip.
Went with my 8 year old son and had a great time. The tour was about an hour. The guide was very knowledgeable and answered all my sons questions. We were able to see two floors and the basement. Nice to take a trip back in time. Recommend for adults and school age kids 6 and up.
A lovely birthday tea under the huge magnolia on the grounds. Friendly servers and good food. Accommodations were made for special diets. A tour of the house gifted to the college by the Kean family was offered. Amazing to see the sword damage to a bannister during the American Revolution!
Really nice experience. Quiet, elegant, the employees are very professional.
The Kean house was built in 1772 and has been beautifully restored with exquisite detail. The knowledgeable staff did a particularly good job of decorating some of the large rooms for a fun Harry Potter themed event in late 2019. Any events held by the Museum staff are highly recommended!
What a lovely gem this is. It is full of historical art and objects. I had the best and most informative tour given by Sasha. It was really an enjoyable visit, I loved it and I am planning my next visit!
Visited with our 7th grade class. The staff was fantastic! They did an outstanding job of keeping us informed, engaging the children in activities and walking us through the mansion. It was like taking a trip back in time. We loved it!
This a beautifully maintained historic site in a convenient location. They gave a wonderful and engaging tour of the home's portraits to a youth group. I highly recommend it for field trips.
Very cute, the fire trucks are awesome!! The first floor of the Kane home is decorated for Christmas which was lovely. Would have like to seen the rest of the home which is open during other times of the year. John, our tour guide was super knowledgeable and very sweet!
This place was amazing. They had great stuff from along time ago.i learned a lot. The house were fantastic and I never knew many things of history but after visiting there I was opened to a new way, and that way was me wanting to learn more. The tour guides wore outfits that we're from that time line and really played into the roles they had. I also loved the decor and beauty of all the houses. And all the very deal meaning of the decore. I especially loved the little story that about the ghost that supposedly lived there but it has a truth behind it but it couldn't really be proven because the the story had been switched over time like the game telephoned. I hope you enjoy this because it's a great place to go with the family or if your a student a great field trip.
Wonderful cocktails and candycane event. Hall was tastefully decorated and ventilated. Had a blast decorating my gingerbread house.
Beautiful grounds to walk around with apple trees and gardens and roses as well as multiple buildings that were part of Mr. Livingston's estate. He was the first elected governor of New Jersey, and the Livingston/Kean family has lived there in the past 200 years. The family has been influencing American politics on every level since then. Now the grounds are part of Kean, but can be rented out for events. The gardens are great for ceremonies and the carriage house is a beautiful brick building for small gatherings. They offer tours of the main house and there is a lot of historical information as well. I was there for a wedding which was amazing with a large tent set up by the carriage house, but I want to go back to take a tour and learn more about the history of this amazing estate.
The tour was fascinating. Usually touring old mansions you never get to go into the back areas like the kitchen and wine cellar. Joann was a fascinating guide.
The tea was sparse. I've been to tea in NYC, 1 in Delaware and 3 in England with slightly larger finger sandwiches, clotted cream, lemon curd, puffy scones and pastries.
Went to Dr Seuss bday party and it was excellent for kids and parents. We, parents, got a platter full of breakfast and the kids got alot of games, crafts, food, and while socially distancing. Very thoughtful & well coordinated presentation. Thank you!
Pond is well kept, nice place for quiet time.
It was ok, we had been for the Harry Potter theme display and the tour was ok. Felt the guide with us was not a Harry Potter fan herself so thimgs were not so exciting. The mansion as such has lot of character and history and there seems to be a separate tour for that, we are planning to take that ... will update further as soon as we get the opportunity to take the mansion tour.
Great place for kids. The grounds are beautiful. I went for the pumpkin festival and there were many activities. But always bring more money because in addition to the ticket prices, a lot of stuff inside is additional $$$.
Great experience for the family. Activities for children and hay rides for the family. It was a nice experience
My ex po experience was absolutely wonderful. It was a very nice event especially now that everything is returning to normalcy.
Teriffic history lesson. Beautiful grounds, well maintained. Personal well mannered and informative. Should be a must for a school outing. Ill go back with younger and older family members.
This is a great gem of historic awesomeness hidden right here in the Elizabeth area.
I've lived here for over 30 years, and it wasn't until recently that I had the opportunity to visit Liberty Hall Museum. I always knew that the house existed and that it held some important historical significance, but I didn't know just how much actually happened there until I took the tour.
Do yourself a favor and check it out whenever you get the chance!
Saw the Keane Premiere Stages production of Fanny Lou Hamer: Speak on It! It was superb and the venue was gorgeous! If you get a chance, see them both!
Beautiful interior!! It reminds me of my great great grans home!

Wonderful outdoor wedding venue - just stay away from rainy humid days and it will be WAY better than our day.
We had a great time at their family fun day-will definitely return for more events
Love the history in this place, from the 1700's to today Interpreted well. Lovely grounds and rose garden. Programs for kids and schools too.
The tour is great and the guides are very knowledgeable. It is a nice piece of history hidden on Kean University campus.
Enjoyed every minute of the tour. Janice was a wonderful guide. She made it all come alive.
It's an step back in time.
Always so much fun & friendly atmosphere .. come back next year with more family
A great experience and a fun night with some history lessons and good hard cider. A step back in time that was fun and entertaining.
