Reviews of Castle Clinton National Monument
Giovanni Reyes
Great first time experiencing the Statue of Liberty in all its glory. Tickets were $23 per adult so not too bad. Heard there was a free ferry down the road but this one wasn't busy so didn't mind paying. The ferry itself had plenty of seating. Tons of opportunities to take beautiful photos. Definitely a must-try for anyone visiting the city! 4 stars only because the ticket sellers were rude.
Kiariladyboss
Love the idea of having a former fort and the ticket booth and info point for the Statue of Liberty. If you hold a pass you don’t have to be in the line inside Castle Clinton/exchange the pass anymore. You can just use your QR code.
Enjoy

Umm cannot really call this a castle. On top of that it is used for the ticket office to go to the statue and Ellis island. This means there is virtually nothing about this "castle" and you cannot learn anything. That being said it is still cool to have a quick look around while you wait for the ferry to take you to the statue and Ellis Island.

Nice little "fort" at the ferry terminal for the Statue of Liberty. This is going through the much needed renovation right now so it has scaffolding all around it, and anything inside is closed due to the pandemic. However, it is a nice place to look around and see what it was like back in the day with a little history!
Robin Pianosi
Unfortunately the tickets to Ellis Island were sold out when we arrived (around noon, on a Sunday in February! So make sure to buy ahead!) but the fort itself was AWESOME. Unassuming at first, it is STEEPED in history! We had an incredible (and FREE) tour for a Park Ranger called Eric. Really fantastic experience. Highly recommended taking the time to learn about the fort!

Great place to visit. Gives entire skyline view of new York. Ensure you save a lot of time to go here. The queue is long even on weekdays. The security check is as strict as airport. So ensure you don't carry forbidden items else you have to leave them and they can't be recollected. A cruise takes you to the liberty island. You can collect the guide phone from there in the language you prefer and go around. The place is huge and hence takes a lot of time.
Ensure you visit the museum to learn interesting facts.
If you want to really visit the crown, please buy tickets in advance else you will get normal tickets and not the crown one.
Once you have visited the liberty island, you can jump onto any cruise which takes you to Ellis island.
It's a nice island from where you can get complete view of the statue of liberty.
Njoy!!

Beautiful old castle structure used years ago against the british. Not much inside, but its a valuable important piece of American History. They have a gift store inside and the staff here were super nice and can give you a run down on the history of this place. When I came it was open.
Vivian Ourazouk
Heading to the Statue of Liberty with my students whom for some was their very first time! The line is long but it moves very quickly. Every time I go I’m always in awe of its beauty! Never gets old.
Mister Jon
An interesting pitstop if you are nearby, but not worth a separate trip. Area used to be an island and then was filled in via a landfill. There is a free exhibition that provides educational information about the history of the site. You can also buy ferry tickets here to the statue of liberty and Ellis Island. There is a public restroom available for free.
Gordon Sjodin
This 5 stars is for the Keith haring metal art across the street. This whole area is just incredible with so many things to see. The keith haring is just icing on the cake. Well worth the time to visit the battery park area while in New York. For a free closer look at the statue of liberty just hop on the free straten island ferry.
bob sanders
Its pretty cool that they kept this monument preserved but when you go inside fort there isn’t much to do the only thing you can do is purchase tickets to see the Statue of Liberty or Ellis island. There are some boards filled with information regarding the history of the landmark and how its changed overtime but pretty cool to observe a historical monument kept for our viewing pleasure
Jason Warner
This is a very clean location. There was even a TV show being filmed when we were there. The statues and the scenery surrounding is quite beautiful and safe. This is where you will get on a sailboat or ferry to the Statue of Liberty
Story Time With Fun Books!
Shade is needed for areas where you stand in line to protect from the sun. Even just a canvas cover would help. When boarding to go to the statue and coming back from Ellis island is where its needed. The boat ride was fun. Views of the statue were awesome. Ellis island museum was very nice.

I love Battery Park! The gardens are so beautiful, the walk through is great with the water views and the Statue of Liberty ! You can take the ferry over to Ellis Island which is so interesting if you're a history lover like me. I just think of my great grandmother coming here from a little town in Europe and after that long ocean journey to see the the majestic Statue of Liberty as they came to the end of their long journey to America. She must have been a breathtaking site to see! You can also see the Freedom Tower which within walking distance and is next to the 911 Memorial.
Rei Alexandra Aoyama
Really nice park in the Battery Park area. You can get tickets for the Statue of Liberty inside the building. Nice greenery and lots of flowers around the area.
Two main memorials at the park for World War II and the Korean War.
If you are here for the Statue cruise, the best way is to pay online and do the “Will Call”. This will save you a lot of time waiting in-line. Note that the ticket to the statue pedestal and the crown is usually sold out 3-6 months in advance. But the ticket to walk around the island is usually available.
Highly recommended.

Very relaxing and enjoyable park for the whole Family, it's very nice out here, The grounds and the Water, really really nice you could even take the ferry here for a few hours trip, And it makes lots of stops to take beautiful pictures of your family, very nice here come and enjoy...
Ken and Alicia Lund
Interesting national monument in Battery Park near the hustle of the Financial District, but in a park setting that is much more relaxed. In addition to the history of the fort, you also have great views of the Manhattan Financial District, the Statue of Liberty, and surrounding city.
Djbony Munoz
A very nice park to enjoy with friends and family, with a spectacular view.
if you like photos, like them. 🤗🤗🤗 …
Gill Bentley
We didn't want to visit ground zero, as it would seem voyeuristic. But in fact it was all right. The memorial is very tasteful and peaceful. A big square pool with an inner square void with the water falling into infinity. The names of those who died are set in a steel sloping panel round the edge. Trees complete it to give you a place to pay your respects.
John Hsieh
Even though this place is a national monument, people rarely visit Castle Clinton for the actual purpose of visiting Castle Clinton. Instead, they're just in line to pick up their ticket for the Statue of Liberty Cruise. This circular fortress does contain a few attractions for tourists, but it mostly serves as a resting shelter for tourists waiting for their turn to get onto the cruise boat.
Will Ill
Loved the open space and chill nature trail by the ocean. The nice little military memorial nearby is a good place anyone abroad can visit and pay thier respects to the men and women who kept this land free. 🇺🇸 …
Cherrie
Spot where we caught Viator tour w/guide, Mark, to liberty & Ellis Islands. Great day!
D F
Very friendly, efficient staff, clean restrooms, and clean grounds. Just beware of ticket scammers trying to sell fake tickets or bully you into buying tickets for a ride to the Statue of Liberty that isn't a National Parks service. The ONLY boats allowed to dock at Liberty and Ellis Islands are the NPS ferries.
Tay Tony
A Historic Building with a Unique design, settled in a Water Front Park at the backyard of the City. Currently serving as a ticketing kiosk for visitors to the Statue of Liberty.
Anna Xu
The castle itself is nice, even though it's under renovation when we were there. I gave it three star because the information on Google map and nps app are are not clear. Both said it's open and list the open hour, but the hour is not for castle museum amd visitor Center/shop which were both temporary closed. We checked the hour before we were going and excited to get another stamp done on our National Park passport, but so disappointed that the visitor Center was closed....It Would Be nice that simply mention the temporary closure of the office aso we could visit some other time.

Castle Clinton was an integral part of colonial America's and post War of Independence defense. New York City as one of the early colonial cities started at the lower end as New Amsterdam with the Dutch and as the population grew the population moved further up Manhattan Island. Castle Clinton, Battery Park and the Financial District east toward Water Street is where New York began it is the oldest part of the city despite the damage done due to 9/11 and the Industrial Revolution. For those who love literature, Castle Clinton was one of the settings in Caleb Carr's "The Alienist". From Castle Clinton which was once an island and was incorporated into the mainland through landfill, you get a lovely view of New York Harbor, clipped ships, and the harbor islands and the Statue of Liberty. There are biergartens during the warmer months not sure if offered year round. There are restaurants located in the old shipping buildings and across from Battery Park on lower Broadway or fast food/light fare from an array of street vendors or indoor food court at the Staten Island Ferry Terminal. There are public restrooms at Castle Clinton because finding a free restroom is paramount in a city where you have to purchase something in order to use any establishment's facilities/WC/Loo. While you are at Castle Clinton, why not take a ride on the aquarium themed carousel which is situated on the site of New York's first aquarium. The artistry is amazing as you ride amongst the angelfish and other aquatic themed animals of the carousel.
Dicken Doe
A small building on the foreshore and where you pick up tickets for the Statue of Liberty.
Nothing much to see though. Super friendly and helpful park staff helped us find our way around and onto the boat.
Meqren Al Mutairi
This is the place to go for will-call on Statue of Liberty tickets. It looks like more of a fortress than castle. Very cool repurposing of old immigration venue. Bathrooms are dated, but free and functional...and, really, when you have to go who cares about decor because then it is all about the flush .
claudia vago
I'm amazed that New York has started in this little castle, and that it has become one of the most beautiful and largest cities in the world, I congratulate the citizens of this country for having made it possible
Tommy G
This is an awesome piece of History you have to go in here to get tickets to go to Staten Island and see the Statue of Liberty but they do have restrooms inside and they also have a small exhibit to show how this fortification worked at one time it's free to see only takes a few minutes this is a beautiful place of the past I'm glad they saved it for us to see today enjoy yourself
Serhiy Tsyganok
Very beautiful sunset you can watch from there and enjoying your drinks
warren hubert
A great historic castle fort sitting on the water edge in the downtown, financial district of New York. Prepare to take scenic pics of this fort and the park and statue of liberty.
Rae Corrigan
Castle Clinton initially appears to be just the place to buy tickets for Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island, but I later learned that it was actually one of the original immigration ports of New York, even before Ellis opened in 1890. Personally, my ancestors immigrated over 30 years before Ellis Island was operational, and most likely came into America through Castle Clinton - very cool!
J. Kremer-Oliva
This place gets overlooked a lot. Most just know it as the ticket office for the Liberty/Ellis Islands. But! This place has so much history.
Castle Clinton was actually the 1st immigration station before Ellis Island. It has also been an aquarium and was the oprah house where PT Barnum brought Jenny Lind to perform (from the greatest showman movie).
We spent a day here, it was kinda crowded with people getting tickets for Ellis Island and Liberty Island, but once the crowds left it was a nice visit. We earned our Junior Ranger Badges and enjoyed our visit.
Def would recommend especially if you are already in the area for Liberty/Ellis island.
Gerard Boyle
Battery Park was very interesting..highlighting the history of new amsterdam/ new york from pre civil war and independence times and the owners and governors of the islands in the bay
Abdallah abu ghalyoun
Not necessarily worth a trip alone, but a nice stop along Battery Park. There’s a small exhibit and gift shop showing its history. It’s also where you buy tickets to the Statue of Liberty, so it’s easy to incorporate to an itinerary.
INDO TAINO ZAPATA
This is the Statue of liberty ticketing office. I loved this trip. There's an advisory though*** PLEASE DO NOT LISTEN TO THOSE GUYS WHO APPROACH YOU IN THE PARK BEFORE YOU ENTER TO BUY YOUR TICKETS***. TICKETS are not more than $18.00.. Do not pay $45 dollars to those guys on the street. Don't worry about food before the boat ride because there's snacks on the boat and food at the statue of liberty island. The food is also a reasonable price. Be careful on the boat ride because it rocks a very much. It's best to take the train to this event. If you take a car us the parking on state street, it is the one on the side of Starbucks in front of the park and trainstation... For 1hr its 24 and for 3 or more hours its flat rate of 36. People I hope you can enjoy have a great time... If you need a guide just ask a question or make a comment to me indotainozapata@gmail...
Ram Kumar
If you have a City Pass, this is where you will need to pick up your physical tickets for the ferries that go to Liberty Island and Ellis Island. You can also get regular tickets at the ticket booth. It's better to arrive early or you will have to wait in line. The weather was very hot so, I didn't get to explore the castle.
Kishore Kumar A
A nice spot to view the river bank, the cruise ships and the Statue of Liberty. It is best to visit this place during sunset, which is when you get to see awesome colors and a great view.
Paulina R. Khanna
Lovely, scenic. Great backdrop for the New York City Arts and humanities Departments which showcase Shakespearean plays with live actors throughout the park during the summer months.
Lilian Klingenberg
Nice park to walk, you can buy here the tickets for the ferry to the Statue of Liberty
Robert Cator
This place was on my bucket list and didn't disappoint we had a very enjoyable time here and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Jason Elmer
Love this venue and Pier A
Great event space and nice view of the freedom tower and a quick stroll to see the statue of liberty and the passing boats.
There is none lighting, I recommend a night visit for some cool photos.
Handicap accessible and it's worth dressing up, it's a modern venue at Pier A
Amir F
Nice & important place to visit on your way to the Liberty island.
Skandakumar Kumarasingam
Click photos and move on. Has an interesting museum and histrory room free of charge. A place that sells tickets to the statue of liberty and the migrant island
Gianluca Adamo
Great park in front of Ellis Island, you can meet very "friendly" squirrels during your tour
Lucas Klenovich
Pretty beautiful. Go during a dark night to see the stars
Brown Water
Great historian place. Good for a nice walk in a nice summer day or a fall walk
AhamedLebbe SabarullahKhan
Friendly staff, very helpful. It's cheaper here to buy the Liberty Cruise tickets.
Christopher Rodriguez
Super nice place to relax and take in all the patriotism here. There is also a statue honoring the immigrants that our Great country was built by.
Chidananda Reddy
It was nice experience but not very exciting. Okay okay. The skyline view is better from here.
Jim Watts
The National Park Service has done a nice job with what is left of this historic sites. It could still be a wonderful aquarium if Robert Moses hadn't selfishly destroyed it.
Maria Jose Martignetti Canelones
Beautiful place, you can see the statue of the liberty here
charan Pal Singh
Place is beautiful and one can take a ferry from Manhattan to Staten Island and back to Manhattan and then enjoy castle Clinton national park for some time before proceeding further. Overall fascinating experience.
Galuh Pinayungan
Nice Historic place for rest while drink from Potable Water dispenser there. Small and classic design makes a cozy atmosphere when you sit and rest there. Relatively quiet place though. A place that you have to visit when visiting Washington DC. Small place though.
Deepak Masih
Theatre District of Manhattan.....in and around the Times square....its says the saga of human architecture and performance and perseverance and Nothing Stops Me attitude of Mankind....
Michelle Poultney
Here to catch ferry to Liberty and Ellis Islands, loved it, such an experience
Victoria Wells
Awesome National Monument visit tucked into Manhattan’s Battery Park. This is a great piece of history where New York began and an easy visit when you are purchasing ferry tickets for the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. There are easy to follow signs and plaques to read about the history of the area. Tip; don’t fall prey to the gimmick tour packages. You can do this yourself and see it just the same.
Micherlange Winkler
Love being in this part, showing my family the reason I moved to this beautiful city.
Robert Castillo
If you keep walking down to Battery Park, catch the sunset. Sunset are memorable from Battery park
Christina Springer
New York. Lots of pagans doing pagan things as salespeople try to get you the best deal on the ferry. Gotta love it.
matthew perry
I nice little slice of history tucked away hidden in plan sight of battery park. I love the history of earlier Americana and this is for sure a nice place to visit if you are in fidi or the area
Marco polo
Nice place wonderful views good to take a picture of long distance
Ian Greene
It's a very great park in Manhattan you should visit whenever you're in New York..
Tha Baer
Great place with a lot of history. On March 17 1919 my grandfather Umberto Vincoli came through Castle Clinton. We visited this place on my 59th birthday March 17 2019. Great time and what a remarkable story that these immigrants have to had. I know that all of them didnt complain, or blame someone else, not want to work because it's cold outside. Americans complain about everything and have everything. Try going without. Give thanks to your imagination status and be thankful to be able to be free.
Camille Plummer
I honor the liberty I am endowed with from Christ Jesus, who has inspired men to make this magnificent monument, the torch of Lady Liberty, signifies to me the path of ascension of my risen Lord Jesus Christ, who lives to make all man and women free through His grace.
Pascual Aguon
Great Place to see the Liberty Statue... or to get a boat ride to it.. if you pirchase a Hop on Hop Off bus tour and best to buy 2 days worth so you kinda know the following day where to hop off.. buses come by so often then you just hop on and proceed to your next hop off.. just remember where you started.. its pretty easy from Guam..Hafa' Adai!!!
Aridius Brown
Had amazing time this is something you have to do when you come to New York
akiode adesegun
Great experience there peaceful place to relax
Mark Whitney
Once a battery fort island, it was then joined to Battery Park by the Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island ferry in NY Manhatton. It went from being a cultural emporium to immigration center to aquarium to present day National Monument.
Linda Calton
Me and my Bf loved it.we plan on coming back to New York again.
Stefanee Clontz
Definitely make the trek up here (via Central Park) if you wanna capture some good views of the city!
Lisa Zoller
When Manhattan seemed so packed, we found this little jewel tucked around the corner. Beautiful views, good food. A bit pricey
Jason Jones
Nice place to go for an evening stroll. Great sunset view from the park.
Rob Files
Great! Park Staff are very helpful, but was more excited to get to the Statue!
Cathy Madley
A quick stop to sit down when you go to pick up your tickets for the Statue of liberty and Ellis island. Some informative facts about the castle, interesting reading.
Juan Hoyos
Near Wall Street and world trade center, nice place to walk and see the city
Teresa Herring
Castle Clinton was were we redeemed our vouchers for tickets to visit Liberty Island and Ellis Island. Although we thought our online purchase of the City Pass was the actual ticket, it wasn't. Have you city pass scanned by the cashier in Castle Clinton, they will give you actual tickets. Afterwards, go stand in line for the ferry;which was about 3 hrs..My suggestion would be to makr a reservation for the ferry, so you don't have to wait in the long line.
Brandon LastName
I liked it more as a kid. It's now ruined by the long lines for the ferry to the statue of liberty that have taken over the area.
Jason H.
This was the place I went to in order to purchase a ticket to the boat that goes to the Statue of Liberty, and Ellis Island. There were a lot of cool monuments around the area as well. There are bathrooms inside also which is extremely useful in New York. I think it is possible to buy the city pass there. Ask for more information, but I believe that pass is one of the best bargains in New York City.
rajeshwar reddy
Historical place port and museum good feel
Millon Subliminal
Very good all, except to get Uber services. Impossible to go back. Uber makes tricks with the streets that u are not familiar and charge you because you can't find the streets on time. Better is to get a taxi.
Denni Wibowo
Beautiful view to the bay but a bit too far if you expect to see Liberty Statue
Charlie Shaw
Not alot too it really, slightly interesting hastily but wouldn't put it down as a must see , although it's where you collect other tour tickets for the liberty Island ferry anyway
The Bounce Life
A place with interesting history and a great place to relax.
Babs Aitken
Lovely looking old building but difficult to view as it is used for the vast amount of tourists buying tickets for the ferry to travel to the Statue of Liberty
Elaine Vasquez
The view of the pier next to the restaurant is wonderful especially in sunset. The food is on the small size unless you're getting a burger. Service is a bit slow on the rush hour but they always try their best not to take too long. Price wise it's perfect for the area.
Michael Young
Lovely place to visit with the family lots to see
iljoo Ji
Nice view to hudson river
Bimal Sharma
Love it for the close proximity to my work for some fresh air and people watching....
Kenny Boey
Small place where you buy your tickets to Statue of Liberty Island and Ellis Island. Can be quite crowded during the weekends.
Edgar Puma
I enjoyed my evening walk in this area. Eventhough it was little rainy.
Milan Chadraba
They recommend visiting the Statue of Liberty 👍👍👍👍👍 …
Benjamin Ashbaugh
A well preserved piece of early New York and American history.
Gregory Pelletteri
A great place to visit a lot of history fantastic reviews of the harbor the Statue of Liberty.
Jared Lay
Beautiful park quiet with nice scenery.
Tim Butz
Very interesting to learn about the early days of the US and the role of Castle Clinton in the immigration process.
Tim Khouri
Very quick pick up of my will call tickets. Security check was easy as well.
Angie Martinez
Very pretty. And also where you get our ticket for the ferry to the Statue of Liberty & Ellis Island.
Obscure Photography
Castle Clinton or Fort Clinton, previously known as Castle Garden, is a circular sandstone fort located in Battery Park, in Manhattan, New York City. Built from 1808 to 1811, it was the first American immigration station (predating Ellis Island), where more than 8 million people arrived in the United States from 1855 to 1890. Over its active life, it has also functioned as a beer garden, exhibition hall, theater, and public aquarium. Castle Clinton National Monument was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on October 15, 1966.
Cayla Priest
Surrounding Battery Park is beautiful. Wish the green space was open for blankets & lounging.
Caleb Fetui
Government shutdown when we went to go see the Statue of Liberty.. still it was fun to see battery park and the statue/Ellis island from Manhattan
Mallory
This place was fascinating! While most people were there for the ferry tickets, my husband and I went and visited the small indoor museum with information on the historic site. It is not large by any means, but definitely a cool stop while strolling through the park.
Rohit Joshi
Good old castle structure in battery park
Kayla (Kmoon)
It's more beautiful in person. A must see in NYC!
K. M
Really nice place to walk around. Finely manicured paths, exposure to the waterfront, and the memorial is nice. You can catch the free ferry nearby. Good police and park maintenance presence. Also access to the path that follows the east waterfront. Might not return simply because there are other great green spaces to explore.
Zsolt Völgyesi
I do love the whole are. A must see place.
Delaram Mousavi
Nice place to visit and look at statue of liberty from distance.
Jim Garvin
A classic beautiful view of the city. A must for tourists and locals!
Chelsea Gillespie
Let me save you from yourself here- don't go to the ferry boats to go on the island- skip that 3 hour headache and come here instead. The crowd is small, the bar is full of drinks and open, and the crew is fun. We had a windy day with the sails down and went right next to the Statue of liberty. Really fun harbor cruise.
Cheska Marie
I saw a squirrel here! I didn't get to take a photo though. Very nice and peaceful.
Rodolfo Aguilar
Is a cool slim building right in front of a park, you don't see this kind of buildings every day.
Jimmy Trần
Nice tickets box inside the great historical sight at the great park
NOEL MOITRA
Enjoyed the afternoon spent here.
Barbara Highfield
Lots of history here and where many ferries leave but not much to do inside
Benji Tri
A fitting memorial to our nation's origins. Originally built to thwart British invasion during the war of 1812.
greg bastille
Don't bother paying tours just go to stanten island ferry for free!
Rahul Singh Khokhar
Water fountains are not working at this place anymore. there are not enough sign boards to tell a person from a distance that where to buy the tickets from for the statue of liberty or maybe you can say it like in this way that you will never realize that the tickets for such a liberty can be bought from this place. Hygiene and cleanliness are not the attractions of this fort and I don't know why this part itself is not to do this attraction maybe because inside the fort and all the barricading and arrangements are just to allow people to buy tickets. if they move the tickets into a different place then I'm sure this place will get more attention and people will take more photos.
ghost27rsr
Alot of history here great views.
Jessica Williams
Great view of the harbor and wonderfully historic! Glad we made time to come here!
Kelly Keifer
Beautiful place in a beautiful city the architecture is really pretty.
steven farmer
This place has some cool sculptures but it easily gets overlooked because you have to go in it to get you're statue of liberty tickets. The actual place is pretty small so you have top walk around battery park top see the statues and memorials. That being said got a national park stamp at the cancellation station
Danielle Dodwell
Beautifully restored, I would have loved to see more about the aquarium. An important stop in our trip to all three monuments (including Liberty's and Ellis Islands). Make sure to make time to explore this place!
Rachid M (Qala Hamra)
Nice park beautiful view. Not overcrowded.
Gilbert Aguilar
I love how safe it is and the sight is beautiful
A Nabs
Nice old fortification in the heart of Battery Park, used for ticketing and similar by NPS now but still some things to see.
B
nice views. great for a hangout or biking /stroll area. some people even fish here. it is a nice place to walk around and enjoy the sights here. it's also free! you can bring some snacks and just sit here and talk and enjoy the view.
Jerry Douglas
Small structure with with lots of history and near the river and ferry location for the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.
Phillip Chapman
Second time here in the last two months. Beautiful park. Quiet enough right on the battery. Nothing to complain about. They have public bathrooms and a carousel. I guess it could get quite crowded. Obviously no swimming since the harbor is so crowded.
Alan Mentser
Beautiful sights from the shore of Lady Liberty especially at sunset
Vance E.
They need lots of money to be restore this park.
Mario Tonndorf
Absolutely flawless. Try to go early in the morning and there will be little to no queue time, you can easiöy spent 2-3 hours on the island with lady liberty. The museum is nice and prices are affordable. A must see.
Sara Akil
Yes great time recommended for family outing. But it only at max between statue of liberty and Ellis Island. About 3 1/2 hour's. So you need to find something else to do. If on bus tour when bus pick you up 6 pm . arrive about 11 am. Smile
Anwar Darsot
Great park to relax at, they have chairs and tables set up.
Cheryl Jones
A very good outing for a summer day. History, Mother Nature, food and a very cool merry go round.
Mike N
Great park, a nice Memorial to those who served and a reminder of the early US history.
Lots if fum events going on around the park too, some distracting, most are fun though.
It was cool seeing the cannons and how that point of land was so vital to defense.
Tanvir Akhter
This is the place where you start preparing to start off for Statue of Liberty by ferry. The ferry is pretty nice and open deck on top is bonus above value for money. Make sure if you go you must stay on top deck and the experience of the view you will get specially on a clear day I bet you wont ever forget. It's like someone has done the painting.
Corina Mayo
This is the actual place you get your tickets. We went during the off season at the end of April and there was no line. A breeze from purchasing tickets, boarding the ferry and return was a very pleasant experience.
Recommend everyone to visit Staten Island and Lady Liberty!
mishaqman
It’s one of the many musts in NYC!!!
Marq Mcdade
Nice view and great place to go to The Statue of Liberty.
Raymond Merfeld
There is a lot of history at this fort. Really nice to see! Battery park is an amazing area.

Never knew the history of the place, was interesting from that perspective. The park service is missing an opportunity to display the immigration history of New York it seems. I wasn't impressed by the exhibits. Should be a more expansive museum. Worth the visit though, and the view of New York harbor are beautiful.
Curt
Not much to see, lots of history.
Hailey Vittetoe
The building was great but my family was hustled by people outside wearing RED SHIRTS for a ferry ride. Wait and go inside, the people seem nice outside but just want your money. IT IS $18 FOR AN ADULT TICKET WHEN YOU GO INSIDE NOT $45.
Yvonne Swepson
It was nice. The reason I like it is 1st: Its part of the history of our country, state and city.
2nd: you get to be near the water and able to go on different boat rides.
3rd: but not least the beautiful battery park.
Jacek Radko
Gives you a glimpse into history, the area used to be the very end of Manhattan Island, but has since been made substantial cleaner than just a few years ago. It's pretty good, but I don't like the way you're harrassed by ticket sharks the minute you come close to the park. Once you get past the vultures, it's a great place
Hope Lyon
Beautiful Park and Monument. Excellent views of NY Harbor, Downtown Buildings. Nice park with large outdoor area for families, or single people to sit and read a book. Dogs are allowed, but there is no separate dog park here. Nice paths and walking areas as well. Is easily accessible to wheelchairs. Good playground area for children as well. Nice gardens and beautiful flowers planted here year-round. One of our favorite places in the city. We go to this park a few times a week.
Ergashbek Suvanberdiev
Best place to see liberty statue
Eric Smith
Cool spot to head to if you're visiting in NYC. Good views of the harbor, jersey, the statue of liberty. At times there is a little bar open serving reasonably priced beers. We didn't buy tickets to see inside the battery or go out to statue of liberty but sure those are fun too.
Kate Kosche
Amazing view. Learn something about the history before you come. Place is mostly the ticket location for ferries to the Statue of Liberty, but was interesting in it's own right. Love the fishy themed carousel nearby.
Krishna Sharma
Ticket center for liberty ferry. Good place to sit and get relaxed.
Frank Wolfe
Worth seeing the fort which has been restored to its Revolutionary days condition. It is hard to believe that it once once in the harbor or an aquarium. Currently it is packed with tourists getting tickets to the Statue of Liberty which takes away the historic charm of the building.
Dayna
They have bathrooms and a little gift shop. You can buy tickets for the statue of liberty and Ellis island.
Makhfou Nd
This park was one of our stops in what was one of the funnest walks in my NY trip. It's a great spot to relax, picnic or listen to music with friends. There is a beautiful view towards the One World Trade Center and i'll definitely be back as soon as the weather is back to being pleasant.
Joel Ballew
Really fun place to visit but super crowded. Totally worth it for any size group as it is situated in a beautiful part of the city. Just make sure you do some research on the best times to visit. The staff is super knowledgeable and friendly.
Mary Raphael George
They really stick to their hours and are not at all flexible. It was a cute museum and nice grounds, but you really need to review the hours or even call ahead. It is a small museum but interesting. We did not get a chance to go into the gift shop since they were closing.
Erica Knight
Took a trip to Lady Liberty! It was great and a chance of lifetime!
Santosh Maisuragi
Historical place which is well preserved. It does need more attention than statue of liberty. Both have their place in history. It's a cool location for a ticket office. The queues were not bad and the toilet wasn't filthy. The water to wash my hands was bitter cold
Niki McNally
Great place to walk around and get a bit of history in while your at it. I lived in the financial district for 7 years so I would rest in the park if I needed a break from walking.
However, the neighborhood is so overrun with tourists now. Don't get me wrong. I understand that it's a tourist destination but the numbers have doubled since I lived there.
On sunny afternoons, which is rare in NYC, you could hardly walk around nowadays. There are way too many people. It's unfortunate because it's such a beautiful spot but with all the people it can be hard to enjoy.
zerro Aries
This is the point to get to Statue of Liberty from Manhattan.
Debasish Mohanty
Great place to explore. Located in the viscinity of the place where you would take the statue cruises to Statue of liberty.
Good architecture designs crafted , worth taking photographs.
Good to explore in early hrs. When the crowd is less.
Joël A.
Lovely park, view at upper bay and the Statue of Liberty
Nikhil Doshi
Good place to stop when in Battery Park when going to Statue of Liberty.
Passport stamp in gift shop and restrooms. Interesting old structure and an old cannon.
Good for a quick look when in the area.
It was a great way to spend our morning.
Jesse Coomer
Beautiful location on the waterfront. Very cool historical site.
Sandeep Pinjerla
This place will be crowded with Statue of Liberty queues usually but otherwise cool place to check out. Place is free to check out unless visiting Liberty Statue. Several activities take place around the building. Building is old and very historic. It takes about an hour to visit the building.
Bruno Hamasaki
Great park, there are toilets at the place, it's where you go to get the ferry to visit Ellis island and the island with the famous statue of liberty. There are some street performances there, some squirrels (that turists, like myself, like to see coz they have a fluffy tail) it's a nice place to see.
Andrew T
It seemed to be getting used as a place to buy tickets to the ferry ride (I'm assuming, could have been to something else). This meant it was half packed with people just standing blocking the view of the castle. So, as far as ticket booths go, it's cool, but as an actual destination itself it's not all that enjoyable since there are a bunch of people packed in like sardines. If it wasn't a to ticket booth with would have walked around and looked at it longer and probably had a more positive review of it
Ben Tuxworth
Nice park on the south end of Manhattan with nice views across the water. The Castle it's self is more of a ticket office for the tours to the Statue of Liberty though. There are some info boards around about the history of the site, but it is not a big attraction in it's self.

A historic place near the Battery Park.
Over here is an old fort with a red coloured stone wall fortification all around.
The passes for the ferry boat to the Liberty Island are available at this place.
Identity proof is a must while gaining the pass.
A unique wristband is providing for the persons desirous to reach the crown of the Statue of Liberty. Particular attention is required to preserve this band.
Mohammed Yaman Allaf
What a great place to see the Statue of Liberty! This is a very interesting monument by itself but when paired with the statue of liberty it's a match made in heaven! Make sure to go on a sunny day because even if it's the least bit cloudy it' difficult to see the statue.
Misha Bluvshteyn
This is a beautiful park right next to the STATEN ISLAND FERRY. From this park you have amazing view of Statue of Liberty and the NYC harbor. There are benches here and a couple of places to sit and enjoy an outdoor lunch/picnic. There is also a carousel with a fish theme vs the usual horse/animal theme.
Mau Mau
I just went by the place, wanted to take a picture of the Old Lady, but half of the place was cordoned off to lead the tourists to the ships that brings them to the Island. Let me add here, that it is pretty ugly strategy to stop the tourists at the subway exists and tell them, that they have to buy ticket to 'the ferry', without telling them, that the Staten Island ferry is free, and this ticket is for another ferry :(
Visakan
It's like the tip or end to the Manhattan island and historic buildings and sculptures. Lots and lots of people even in winter sub zero temperatures and of course the chipmunks looking for food. They appear to be very tame. Lots of locals who goes out of their way to help new comers and tourists. Can get a ferry to the islands to and from here too.
Mitzi Leaver
Wonderful displays with the history and the NPS personnel were wonderful, friendly, and informative.
Phi Pham
This is the place to buy tickets to the statue of liberty... the line was ridiculously long, expect to wait multiple hours to even get to the security check point. I recommend getting there early or at least buying the Express pass... itll save you at least 2 hrs.
RickC1916
Monument to all in WWII who were lost at sea. Beautiful eagle perched and looking out at pillars containing names and branch of service. Also a nice view of the Statue of Liberty. So uplifting. Great place to sit and contemplate freedom.
Wendy Ertel
This is a lovely place to visit on a nice weather day when you're spending time in Battery Park or after seeing the 9/11 memorial. They have lots of informational brochures and mini tours available. It's located along the waterfront so lots to do in walking distance closeby. After touring the castle go on a ferry boat to see the Lady Liberty or sail on one of the tall ship sailboats docked next to the castle for a fun afternoon adventure!
Tigh Loughhead
Great monument now that construction has cleared out... Great little spot in BPC.
Corey Plunkett
Love the history of this place. Very impressed with the volunteers that know history of the facility. It is magical to know what could have happened here 100 years ago. Very well maintained. Thanks for sharing our world history with the public. Power continue to share with thekid of the future
Aman Sidhu
Right on the tip of battery park. This is where statue cruises departures leave from. Statue cruises takes you to both liberty Island and Ellis Island. Statue cruises review will be happening under a different section once they return my email about my disappointment with their service. Great place to take pictures and a delicious crepes food cart right out front.
Dan Pieraccini
This is a fantastic landmark to visit in Battery Park. Plenty of places to eat or drink outside on a nice day. If you can, look up to see if there are any events going on. In the summer, once, I watched a Shakespeare in the Park free rendition of 12th Night and the scenes happened in and out of the monument and inside and outside of the fort. You followed the actors all around this landmark and it was just awesome for them to utilize this place as a natural backdrop.
Aaron Wilson
Pretty nice facility to visit prior to catching the boat ride to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. The bathrooms are decent and everyone is usually friendly. Arrive early as the mid-afternoon lines get extremely long.
Sheri Mueller
A random national Park that gets overlooked because everyone's going to the statue of liberty, but it's worth a look while you're waiting for the ferry! It doesn't take long. It's the little round wooden fort where you get your statue of liberty tickets.
Meistro7
The place to get your tickets for Liberty and Ellis Islands if you don't want to work through the people standing outside of the park and walking around asking you if you want to visit the islands on the parks pathways. MOST IMPORTANTLY...the nearest FREE BATHROOMS. Thank you...they were much needed..
Carolyn Petmecky
Beautiful- Battery Park is really nice. Lots of grass and lots of shade. Except for when you stand in line for the Statue of Liberty. It was so hot we had to buy an umbrella at the Ranger's Gift shop to provide shade cool down some. Long, long, long, long - did I say LONG lines. Security was really backed up!!
Melanie Desmarais
Beautiful day with my girls! My daughter was so obsessed with the statue of liberty since learning about it in 1st grade. We made a day trip out of it and only wish we stayed a day or two to visit the whole city.
Jacqui London
We stopped at Castle Clinton to use the toilets/restrooms. Then, out of curiosity, we slipped into the small gallery in the castle. It contains a set of panels and some brilliant dioramas showing the history of the castle and of Battery Park, which basically didn’t used to be there at all. If you are in Battery Park and interested in the changing landscape of Manhattan, it’s a great little exhibit to drop in on.
Nancy Hunter
Our tour guide was Owen and he was the absolute man. He knew everything there was to know about this tour he kept it interesting and had a good balance of teaching some things and enjoying yourself. We went while it rained a little which was perfect because no lines or huge crowds. It was a lot of fun we learned a lot and Owen was the man. Highly recommend if you’ve never been to NYC. Find Owen you won’t be disappointed.
Ray P
A nice place to visit on your way to seeing the Statue of Liberty. It's clean, lots of food carts etc. Parking is bad, so use the subway, that's very easy to figure out. Take a walk on Broadway and Wall Street while you're there.
Chris Goh
The place to buy Statue of Liberty ferry tickets
Ashley Thompson
The only thing you go in for is to get the tickets for the boat rides. Not bad just needs shaded areas while waiting in line. Staff need to be a little more friendly too and open about where your suppose to go.
Praveen Koppuravuri
Good to see monument on 100 dollar note
Olga Florczyk
Battery's Park historical building where u can get tickets to Liberty and Ellis Islands
Chuck Coffman
As we approached to buy our tickets we were attacked by shysters trying to sell us all manner of tours, telling us tours were not available, etc. These guys had the badges, the t-shirts, everything to make them look authentic. The cops just sat there and let this happen. Once we made it inside, the lady in the ticket booth was quite helpful and made sure we got the right tickets and assured us that the boat was going to both islands and we were in the right place.
Ariel
18 us dollars trata the cost to ferry to Lady Liberty
George Bregvadze
Nice place to chill out at lunch.
Philip Christopher Tully
Awesome historic military site. Well worth the wait. A must see if in lower Manhattan / Battery Park area. A lot of interpretative signage and a very interesting and impressive structure. You can almost feel the antiquity.
Brina Jones
Took my toddler out here to see the boats and ferry. I gave him an age appropriate history lesson on the various monuments. He enjoyed the scenery, but was afraid of the opening blowing from the boats.
Victor Olaore Omoshehin
This is the entrance to take a boat to the Status of 🗽 in New York. You will need to get your trip ticket before you will be allowed pass through the entrance. The park is large enough for rallies, protest and group excursion. …
Derek Wanless
The ferry service that takes you to the Statue of Liberty and other tourist stops operates in this building. There was an outdoor market on my visit. All very pleasant and interesting.
Oscar Perez
Not much to see. Close to WTC and Financial distric. Statue of Liberty ticketing booth on premises. The place need some TLC. Stamp for the park service passport on the gift shop. If you are going to buy tickets arrive early, lines are extremely long.
Patrick Hartigan
The amount of people was crazy an hour to get a ticket and 3hours to get through security and that was only the start of it
P Fladuke (pfladuke)
Located in battery park along the waterfront this monument remembers the first immigration station. The views here are beautiful, looking over towards WTC Freedom tower or across the river to Jersey. The architecture of the monument and area is beautiful. It is a relatively peaceful, sombre place and a good spot to switch off for a moment or two.
Corey
Great views and history but the street vendors are annoying and in your face.
Chris Foster
Not really anything to do but an interesting fort to visit. Was walking around the area and recognized it from Spider-Man video game so wanted to check it out. Some other stuff in the area to see and do, worth a walk through while you're there doing the other things.
Shawn
Neat bit of history. Nice view.
Benjamin Nakamura
Cool museum, and historical timeline of this 19th century military outpost.
Abhishek Namdeo
Stopped into Castle Clinton on the way to Statue of Liberty.
They sell tickets to the Statue of Liberty there and you can also visit some of the rooms about the history of Kelso Clinton.
This is a fun visit and it doesn’t cost anything.
Well worth going into and looking around.
9 million immigrants were processed through this area. Such a historical site. Now it's just the launch place for the statue of liberty.
A really historical castle and great for a brief view and a wonder around if in the area. I wouldn’t purposefully visit if in a tight timeline.
Vijaykumr Muljibhai Patel
It's very good place to visit
Paul Pavlinovich
This is an interesting building preserved and repurposed for the Statue of Liberty ferry terminal. I would recommend that you book your statue tickets online and board from the NJ side as there is generally little or no queue over that side rather than starting here in NY that often has a monster queue.
I am That guy
Fantastic vewes. You can take the Staten Island ferry free for more. Only get your tickets for the statue of library at the Fort you have a good chance of being ripped off otherwise.
PLL9000
It's a stone building of simple design. Nothing to write home about. For history buffs.
Christina Fondren
I would give the staff 5 stars hands down, but a lot of the people there don't care about the landmark and only stop to get tickets to statue of liberty. Unfortunately there is some construction or updating going on that closes parts of the exhibits of as well. Worth a stop with the kids
Carlos Donis (Bebeto)
Only one ticket kiosk was working, there was a lot of cold and people wanted to hurry but the line was very slow.
Armita
Great place to visit!!! We stopped to used restroom and rest from walking. The restrooms were very clean, and the view was amazing. This place is small but very cozy. Highly recommend to stop and enjoy the view.
Ali Vidler
This place is kind of cool because it's so historic. The park "Battery park" is literally named because of this. This structure was known as "The Battery" and used to be located in the Manhattan harbor and served as a way to defend if there was ever a battle. The water used to start where "Fort Amsterdam" (now the Native American Museum) is located so Battery park is full of history and is mostly a man made area as it used to be part of the harbour. I'd recommend a stop here and if you want to learn more about the first people to arrive on Manhattan and the small village they made search on google for "The Castello Plan"
Yolanda Sierra
Somewhat dissapointed. I went around to the ticket booth noticed smells so disgusting like human feces in the park. It is so sad all the money you spend touring the area but lack of maintenance. Public bathroom was surprisingly clean and with tissue. Hours of cruise operation very short. It should be extended at least to 7pm in the summer.
JRB 7
Great place to see the Statue of Liberty from Manhattan
Adventures with Rachel
Neat Old short, this is where you purchase your tickets for the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island Ferry. The ticket booth opens at I believe 9 the first boat leaves 9 as well you can either purchase your tickets here or online. If you purchase your tickets here it is a little cheaper than online. I purchased and one adult ground-level for Statue of Liberty and it was $18.50 where is I saw online it was $25 plus tax for the same thing. When you purchase a ticket at this establishment you have 3 days to use it within. Approach has my ticket the same day and I spent an hour or possibly 30 45 minutes in line walking around the building is a queue as long but moved quickly. There are some historical things within the fort besides the purchasing up tickets for the Statue of Liberty Ellis Island tour.
Syandra Kwan
I was more excited to see the statue of liberty.
Michael Berg
Went there to redeem city pass tickets. They did not open on time and we had to wait in line while the staff were obviously inside having some sort of break - right from the opening? However there were squirrels running around which offered some entertainment for the kids.
Suzanne Lang
Interesting to see this small fortress, it was impressively built. The doors alone were three inches thick, although I am not certain of what metal they were made with? Easy to visit, and combine with a visit to the statue of liberty.
Shaun K.
This is a small but historic fort, with some good history information on the park/area. It is mainly where you get tickets for Liberty Island and Ellis Island. It does have bathrooms and a gift shop.
Craig Buffington
Really cool place that no one knows its there.
Anannya Nath
Don't get confused with the word "castle" in it's name. Located in the middle of battery park, it basically serves as the ticket counter for statue of Liberty and Ellis island tours. It's a ruined headquarter of U.S army with some self explanatory pictures and boards. the explanations are interesting and enjoyable. But nothing special to include it as a individual place of visit. it has a free entry and it merely takes 10-15 minutes to walk around the castle.
Cha
This is a historic sites overseen by the National Parks Department, but it is basically a staging area for Statue Cruises. There is a park ranger here that gives a guided tour, a small bookstore, and a few exhibits, but the site is dominated by lines for the ferry ticket booth. I wouldn't go out of my way to visit this place. However, Battery Park is beautiful and besides the lovely waterfront and vistas, there are a number of monuments and each are impressive and well-designed. Castle Clinton is free so it adds to a nice day in the park, but on its own there is not much for a visit.
Cindy Graham
Be sure to see the museum, did you know this was once an island? If going to the Statue of Liberty, you are in the same general area, so don't miss it. My grandparents when they immigrated it was before Elis Island and this is where they were welcomed into the country. Amazing to see the old fort with the tall buildings in the background.
William Lattimore
The view at night is mesmerizing.
Asya Ojeda
So beautiful even for a New Yorker.
Steve Kupitz
Cool fort! My wife and I went in here while buying tickets for the ferry. Unfortunately we didn’t have time to understand its significance. I’d like to return here if possible but it’s not something I’d return to New York for.
karl Hausmann
Never been inside, however, if you are into historic sites then this is the place.
Jamal Ajli
This where you can buy tickets to take boat to statue of liberty.
You can also see the history of the place and part of New York since 1812. It's really historic and very interesting.
Curtis Carpenter
Our boys like to collect badges from the Junior Ranger program implemented by the National Park Service. We were in New York City, but did not want to pay and wait to go all the way to the Statue of Liberty. We asked the park ranger on duty about completing the junior ranger for Statue of Liberty without going across on the boat. He informed us that in order to get the Statue of Liberty badge we had to go across, but that we could complete the booklet for Castle Clinton and receive a badge from him. The booklet and learning about Castle Clinton turned out to be really interesting as it matches the changes in New York City. It was a great way to spend our morning.
Mark B Borg Jr
Love love love it here....what's not to love? Yet another NYC-scape that has all the compelling features that hundreds of years of historical/mystical resonance is inevitability going to result in. A blast for friends and family when visiting -- as well, of course, for is so-called resident-tourists here in the lovely, lovely NYC!!!!!!!
James Gibson
This monument is near the ferry to the Statue of Liberty and some other Battery Park area attractions like the Staten Island Ferry. It is worth taking a few minutes to read the displays that tell about its history and to view its construction.
If you are in the area already for another attraction, I urge you to see Castle Clinton and read the historical displays about it. It won't take long, and it's educational.
Will Koehrsen
An interesting former fort that now serves as the ticket center for trips to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. The fort itself is worth looking around and reading about its history. Castle Clinton sits within the wonderful Battery Park.
Will Harnish
A must see if you are ever visiting NYC. Totally worth the trip. If you are planning on seeing the statue of liberty or Ellis island you pretty much have to go through the fort but do yourself a favor and look around for a minute or two.
julie S
Not much to see here as a national monument but rather the ticket office for the cruise to the Statue of Liberty. The stamp for national park passport is located in the little gift store inside the monument. You won’t miss it.
Georgia Craig
Easily over looked but you get a unique view of the city, with several different interesting structures including a carousel esc thing that looks good. It has the ferry to the Statue of Liberty there.
Kellie Z
Castle Clinton is restored to its original glory and very cool. Nice gift shop for those Statue of Liberty souvenirs and clean restrooms. This is the only venue to buy the Liberty Island tickets to actually step foot on Ellis Island and Liberty Island. Go early in the week. Lines were very long, *think hours*, Thursday through Sunday. We have been to Liberty Island before so this time, we enjoyed a harbor cruise that went around the islands as well as under the bridges and around Roosevelt Island instead. Less expensive and no lines. Catch the Harbor Cruise in Battery City.
Charles Oropallo (CharlesWorks)
It is great to see all the history in the pockets of small beautiful parks in Manhattan in New York City. Definitely worth stopping by to visit while walking through Manhattan. Everything kept up, clean, and very interesting.
Shiva Shankar
Nice place on the shore near status of Liberty and a place where you get tickets for the liberty ferry. Right opposite to it you have garden with chairs and place to relax. It has a very good view of Manhattan skyscrapers.
Matt Perrone
Castle Clinton is the starting point for your journey to see the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island from the NY side. This is where you buy tickets to get on the ferry. I recommend getting here early since lines get very long and the waits for ferries can get insane quickly in the middle of the day. This place is nice for a bathroom break too, as it has nice facilities.
Gabi Tellez
Bumped into this place & it was such a breath of fresh air! Delightful! Fairly inexpensive, beautiful to look at all the colors & the music was very calming. This place is whimsical! Loved it!
Jason Johnson
Beautiful for a morning walk around the park or sit and watch the ferries going back and forth . Excellent views to statue of liberty and Staten island. Park is very well maintained.
Allyson Smith
Strange monument. Ellis island before Ellis Island. This place has a long history including being a fort, entry place for immigrants, an aqurium, and a music hall. Worth stopping by if you're in the area (like getting tickets to go to the statue of liberty) or you are very interested in early NYC history. But there's not a lot to see except to marvel over New York's long history.
Michelle Brown
Stunning scenery. Beautiful view of the Bay area. Grounds are kept clean. A great place to visit with family and friends! Great place for children to go to the amusement park area also.
Eugene Thomas
Another of the great parks of NYC. A lot of it is blocked off now. I don't know if it's about upgrading or keeping people not going on the boat rides from walking through. Took pictures with my camera. I'll post them after I download them to my computer.
Martha Saenz
This is the place to go for will-call on Statue of Liberty tickets. It looks like more of a fortress than castle. Very cool repurposing of old immigration venue. Bathrooms are dated, but free and functional...and, really, when you have to go who cares about decor because then it is all about the flush.
Christa Lam
Place for statue of liberty boat tours. I really loved the room that described the evolution of the city. Also if you're like me and you collect national park stamps, you can find it in the ranger office.
Maria Isabel Benites
Very nice. But crowded during holidays or vacations because there are so many lines for the tours to Liberty statue.
Is a nice place to walk and enjoy the view.
S Renaudie
Nice little park south if the financial district if Manhattan. South Ferry and Bowlers Green metro stations are 5 and under 19 minutes walk respectively.
It gets busy here especially with the visitors and tourists commuting to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island by ferry.
Sathya Nambirajan
Bought tickets to Statue of Liberty cruise here. This place also has a small museum with exhibits about the evolution of the city. Discovered that during a free walk. If you are here for the cruise tickets and have some time to kill, do see the museum images and fixtures.
Adam Sweetser
I've only been here to pick up tours for the Statue of Liberty. It was one of four forts build that was later converted. It had a pretty cool history. Anyway, there are public restrooms, inside.
BHAR
I spent less time in it......but was knowledgeable
Jonathan Roth
A beautiful place even for the winter time.
Colleen Gosnell
The people inside were nice. They were closing for a private event when we got there but they let us walk around for a few minutes and gave us plenty if information. It was worth stopping by.
Frederick Wright
Hadn't been here in many years. The security theater is intense so plan extra time for long lines and crowds. Jumping off point for the ferries to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty.
Judy Scott
I would have loved it had we not arrived 5 minutes before close. I love National Park places, and have never been disappointed. Will have to go back to NY to visit earlier in a day.
Jay Finesilver
Fun historical place just near the statue of liberty
John Barbosa
You can buy tickets to liberty statue here. This place is a bit desapointing, no one to explain its importance and just a few good places to take photo
Kelly Smith
get a CityPass, arrive VERY EARLY (830am is first boat) and avoid the line once you get checked in for the FlexPass.
recommend the first boat as you are the only ones there until the second boat arrives 30 minutes later. book your Crown tour well before you arrive for your visit. they sell out very fast and "same day Crown tours" are rarely available.
right side of the boat when GOING to Liberty Island and left side when leaving.
recommend Ellis Island tour, included, if you have the time.
JA Smircina
Great little park. Near the river.
Sharon Rumley
There is history here and a very small museum, but basically it is where you can buy tickets and pick up will call tickets. Then you go behind the building to wait in line to go through airport like security. I had a allen wrench used with my camera which was confiscated! From there you queue up to board the ferry to the statue of liberty.
Myrtille unkjent
Always nice to put forward historical sites. This one is one of the many historical/cultural references and small treasures in the area. However there is some potential being missed in presenting the site in an engaging manner.
Don
A must to add in to do list while in NYC
Chris Welty
There's not that much here and i didn't find it very exciting. This is primarily the place where people take the ferry to the statue of liberty and ellis island. There is a big line because you have to go through an airport like security check...
Ananya Bhattacharyya
The name itself tells that it's castle and it looks like so but it's now working as a ticket counter . Still it has it's glory and I touched it's wall and it proves that it's really very rough and hard . It has a different attraction , that you can't ignore if you love historic places .
Harold Becht
Surprised on how unkept this national treasure is kept. Two rangers were there while we visited. One was amazing and the other not so much. The museum in a semi-hidden room is a nice surprise.
Maria Ngo
I was surprised to find that this monument is where the liberty statue cruises sell their tickets. There are information boards around the place about this monument. That the busy ticket office with rope lines to direct queues is located in the middle of this monument makes for a jarring experience of a historical monument.
Jimmy Mango
Great landmark museum. Excellent timeline dioramas of the Lower Manhattan shoreline. Can get crowded because of the Statue of Liberty ferries nearby but worth the time.
Mario Mamone
This historical fort located along the Hudson River is amazing for its size and construction. Big rock blocks form the walls that must be 30 feet (9 meters) tall. The entrance doors are sold metal and 10 feet (3 m) tall and painted black they stand in stark contrast to the gray stone walls. The inside of the fort is where ferry tickets are purchased or picked up.
Indranil Karmakar
Beautiful Park and Monument.Excellent views of NY Harbor,Downtown Buildings. Nice parkwith large outdoor area forfamilies, or single people to sitand read a book. Dogs areallowed, but there is no separatedog park here. Nice paths andwalking areas as well. Is easilyaccessible to wheelchairs. Goodplayground area for children aswell. Nice gardens and beautifulflowers planted here year-round.One of our favorite places in thecity. We go to this park a fewtimes a week
Nicole Bryant
Attended on a Tuesday. Lines were long but moved quickly. However waiting in the Hangar was super hot. Some fans in there would've been great.
Salman Siddiqui
So close to Wall Street humdrum yet so serene and quiet! You can stroll through battery park that’s the only access to cruise servicing Statue of Liberty and Ellis island.
Paul Nebenzahl
The Battery is one of the least visited parts of Manhattan island and for that reason it's one of my favorite places to go. Here the immigrants, Korean war vets and our sailors lost at sea are honored and remembered.
Eduardo Badaro
Beautiful spot in NYC, better to see from the river

Remember... This is the only place to buy tickets to see the lady
Erik Kuris
Didn't get to spend enough time here on the way to the statue. Security is airport style so be prepared to drop your belts, jackets, and boots if they have steel in them like mine did.
Emer Butler
Listen tourists, a bunch of people are going to approach you to get you to buy a tour ticket. It's not really necessary, they're just hustling, so let them hustle. But if you're on a budget, catch the Staten island ferry that goes directly past the statue. It's free.
Heidi Behan
Glad to find this and felt safe on the ferry tours. Had to suffer through the awful insanely aggressive fake ferry people to get here but felt safe and enjoyed seeing the city from this viewpoint.
Ishmael Ngwako
Ticketing location for Statue of Liberty. A great old building
kevin Harsch
Cool place to visit if u r in the area. If going to the statue of liberty u basically walk right by it. Take an extra 30 min and walk around this historic site and learn about our history.
Basil Moore
Not much happens here. The only reason you should go here is to get tickets for the Statue of Liberty. You could go to look at it for a bit, since it was a fort in some war that America took part in, but you may get bored if you stay there for long, since there is not much to do. The Castle Clinton is in a park, therefore there are "lawns" around it, where you can relax, or let your kids run around.
Elizabeth Wilson
Castle Clinton is where you go to purchase or pick up tickets for the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.
Angela Sannasardo
Bought the tickets to get on the ferry to see the lady statue of liberty Ellis island and the castle has history of all I can say it took my breath away. BELLISIMA. There's a lot of food stands out there and caffe.
peedyoj ladnom
Great place to spend evening
Ohodgee Nieves
Castle Clinton National Museum has nice masterpieces of artwork and great painters and artists who have great artistic skills making painting and drawings I remember in middle school I use to make sketch maps in my history classes. In elementary school we visited a old village that had all the different history facts we learn in class.
DHAVALKUMAR PATEL
Love this place ,just be careful buying ticket from outside vendors ,agent on street are selling ticket for boat tour (that means you cannot exit on Statue of Liberty ) . Don’t buy ticket just think twice before you buy ticket
michael gray
Oh no.... I didn't see this but wish I had!! Looks very interesting!! Give 5 stars because the whole Battery Park area and sites of interest were awesome so I assume this is too.
Unicodia
The restaurant there is reasonably priced, and the food is good. My friends from England said that they would tell others about it. I had the fish and chips. The chips were wedges, which I wasn't expecting, but I enjoyed it.
Befus
What a cool little peice of history. This used to protect New York Harbor.
I love historical buildings and although very little of the original fort has survived it's neat to see.
Matthew Perry
Located at battery park, historical site. Enjoyed wandering about the place, worth a look in if you're waiting for a statue of liberty cruise.
Riq Luna
An old fortress structure along Battery Park in lower Manhattan, NYC.
Historic structure that was used as a military fort of sorts..
Offering a beautiful view of the Hudson outlet towards the Atlantic, Ellis Isle, and the Statue of Liberty dress the Vista.
Behind this gorgeous view is One World Trade Center.
Traci
I just visited Castle Clinton this April and as with most national parks/monuments/sites, I can't wait to return!
It's a former battery (fort) which has been repurposed over the years, now standing as the home of a small exhibit as well as ferry tickets (at least, I saw signs for it).
Unless you're really inquisitive, make sure you seek out the small exhibit near the entrance furthest from the water, to see how the city's shape has changed over the years. Directly across from the exhibit is the Ranger's office, where you can also grab your National Parks stamp!
surajit saha
This is the place for buying Ferry tickets to Statue of Liberty. Be prepared for long queue. In a crowded day the waiting time may be 1-2 hour easily.
D. Caviness
Castle Clinton memorial is a great way to look back on history. The monuments tell their stories of a time long past, but you can almost hear the canons explode and the soldiers hurried footsteps. Its a must go when in New York. I love it! And I live here!
Ireneusz Kramarz
Park is ok. Do not fall for the asian ppl scam. Older couple offered to get us a caricature for $15. After done drawing the doubled the price x2 people and added a paper frame for $40. SCAMMERS AND THEY SHOULD BE BANNED FROM THE PARK
Ali Tahiri
Nice monument overlooking the statue of liberty
Richie G.
This is a place you can visit any time of year and there's always something to see, Always something to eat and always something to do. If nothing else grab a seat and just people watch, there's a lot of Beauty to see.
Gary Wrege
It is always enjoyable to look at the very prevalent history in this city and to see where the cannons were to protect Manhattan island from the British coming over on their ships.
Gabriela Alvarado
It has a few wifi , it's better get the tickets in the website , so you do today need to wait in the long line to take the ferry :)
nick robbins
I had a wonderful time there even tho I was only there for 2 mins I felt like I saw all of New York. On a clear day you can see amazing sight such as the harbor, world trade center and even the statue of liberty.
Rachel Antonio
Most people only know Castle Clinton as the place where you buy tickets for Statue of Liberty and boat rides. The castle is really an old fort that was built to keep the British out. I would love to check out the little museum. I've only visited the castle because of the Statue of Liberty.
Trey Cail
Really cool park tucked in a corner. Would have been nice to get a tour but they weren't doing them when we went by. Would love to go back and get the tour though.
Urban Cohort
Didn't really 'visit' this place; you are directed here to get tickets for the SofL and Ellis Is. There are a few interpretive boards about it on the South End if you take the time to look, and it appears it has its origins in the colonial era, with walls that have been excavated in last few years, but the structure is later, I think. It seems also to have been the main point of entry to the USA and NY from 1820s onwards until Ellis opened up, which would include distant cousins of mine, the Manwarings of Kent, UK, who arrived on assisted passage as paupers in the 1830s.
Think more could be made of it rather than being somewhere where one simply queues to do something else.
Sam Adamson (LeafGL)
Coolest fort I've been to! They kept a lot of the old cannons and equipment inside for everyone to see and it was once a very intense place to be, dealing with lots of criminal ships.
Yuvraj Ramsaywack
A hidden and historic gem tucked away in Battery Park. For park enthusiasts, there's a national park passport stamping station. The male midday, weekday shopkeeper in the gift shop was a little strange, but otherwise satisfactory.
Elaine Yaco
Had no idea this is what they called Ellis Island. So much history in a little place. Another piece of history that everyone should visit. At the back of the building outside, is walls that list everyone's name that came through the Island (amazingly in alphabetical order)
Carolyn Hayes
The Clinton Castle at Bowling Green at the tip of Manhattan! I picked up my online tickets at Clinton Castle to board the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island ferry boat. Great day for both my out-of-state friend and me!
Abhijeet Mule
Actual castle is not very big. You have to go here only in case of getting tickets for your Statue of Liberty ferry. There are lots of events and activities happen around this place. Entry is free of cost.
Sonia Persaud
A very nice attraction. But since it's always so crowded.. I think they need to figure out a better way to handle the crowd or They will loose alot of customer.
Alfred Whitmore
Interesting, a gem found close to the ferry stations for Ellis and Staten Island, would certainly recommend taking the time to drop inside and take a look around, I believe there is a penny press here also.
Louis Beetson
Efficient service to and from Ellis & Liberty island, ferries ran every 20 minutes. Need to get better tasting coffee for the ferry though.
Danny Bracho
One of those places that reminds you that New York is rich is history. To imagine what it would have been like over a hundred years ago. Makes you think about our history and what it means to work or live in this city
Sylvia Santified
It has a rich culture, very interesting. I didn't spend much time but our tour guide give us a bird eye view of it importance.
Daniel Roca
There isn't much inside except you can book your trip to the Statue of Liberty there. It's just an old stone fort. A rest room some, old photos on the walls.
Eric Tatum
Truly amazing building
Byron Caldwell
Hot hot hot! And the lines do not move fast. Luckily we thought to bring an umbrella to provide our own shade from the direct sun.
Anubhav Srivastava
This castle is mostly used as a ticket counter for ferries that take you to ellis island and statue of liberty. It has few things to look if you have time but mostly it is a very small space and can be skipped. Except that you have to enter inside if you want to buy tickets. :)
James Longo
So much history! Definitely stop by and enjoy it.
Joshua Zimmer
This monument was very historic and was a great experience to see with my family!
Jeremy Reeder
They make you come in here to buy tickets to see the statue of liberty. The massive ticket booths that take up most of the space really honor the history of the location.
paolo fantaguzzi
Fantastic place to visit
Quietstorm 1410
It was so cool. I've lived in NYC for 28 years and never been there. The atmosphere is so relaxing. It's nice to see everyone enjoying themselves.
Dada Gujar
Good place don't miss it in New York
Patricia Lange-Otsuka
Great start to visit Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island...if you want to go inside Statue must apply for tickets in advance of 2+ weeks as they sell out...loved Ellis Island and Cafe was good.
Tom K
It's where you can get one of the ferries to the statue of liberty. It's also located in a park along the Hudson. Nice to hang out and walk the battery park water front
1599 Rajat Kumar
I love it becouse i live in the same boat as you can see from the picture of the three of us are going to be there at burger and fries and a drink and see if you can get a good night's sleep and I will talk to you later I love you too baby girl and I will be there at burger and fries and a drink and see if you can get a good night's sleep and I will talk to you later I love you too baby girl and I will be there at burger and fries and a drink and see if you can
tsun hei leung
Have ice cream and beverages
Also a toilet and a souvenir shop
You can see the statue of liberty here
Good place to chill before taking the ferry
Roman Martinez
Good place if you like our American history.
Rachana Shah
Grt top view
Alfred Davis
Very well maintained park right on the bay. Nice green areas, pier style restaurant, and ferry pickups for anyone interested in a boat ride.
Mike Glad
It was a nice place to walk around and a good jumping-off point to get on the fairies to go out to the Statue of Liberty it wasn't crowded the day we were here the weather was great and we enjoyed our visit
Oscar A Restrepo
A great place full of history and the house of Statue of Liberty tickets. Is really in the middle of battery park, it was all water before but history can tbe lo you how they make it all land.
Sara Cortez
Nice experience would go again. It is not necessary but They have a personal stamp so you can add it to your passport; so make sure to have it with you!(:
Janos Zsoter
Nice spot to visit!
Coach Styve
That’s the smallest castle I’ve ever seen. It’s there only to purchase ticket for the cruise that takes you to the statute of Liberty.
Sinista I.Z.
A piece of old world history at battery park also where you go to buy your statue of liberty tickets. No cover charge just walk in. It's twin is on governor's island.
Dr Rishi Muni Dwivedi
Castle Clinton National Monument is situated in Battery Park of Manhattan Area near the Battery Park Ferry Terminal for Statue of Liberty. It was an immigration point fir entry in USA from 1855 to 1890. Now it is the entry point fir the tickets fir the Statue of Liberty. Nice old building.
Neelma
This place is actually dedicated to buying tickets to go to the Statue of Liberty & Ellis Island. There are restrooms inside. Some seating arrangement as well.
Agnes GAYOT
Get there before 8:30 and the place is empty. No wait line for tickets or security. We got on the 2nd ferry in the morning and everything went smooth.
Amber Cockey
Super interesting Nat'l Monument with a varied history. Friendly helpful rangers. Super crowded, though, because CC is also where you can buy and/or pick up Statue of Liberty tickets.
Dattatraya Patil
great place to roam around to look for historical time-lapse. Most of the visit s now it gets is because, of the ticket center for statue of liberty and Ellis island.
Evan Lowman
Lots to see but everything there you have to pay for and it's not a cheap time it was around $70 to take a hour tour but you can see everything from the shore line but a great place to see
Griffin 3
Very minimalist fort. A few cannon in a circular brick wall, and a tiny gift shop. May be guided tours on some other days, but as a self-tour, 5 minutes about does it.
Ahmad Almulla
Nice place for a quick meal
Debra Volpe
Interesting history. Always crowded because it's where tickets for Statue of Liberty are issued. Nice way to pass time while waiting for your ferry.
James Philipsz
Take time and go to see
Noel Orourke
Took the liberty cruise ,the tour guide on the boat John a real new Yorker was fantastic. One of our many highlights of our trip.
Alena Kharlamova
Bought tickets for the Statue of Liberty cruise there. For the same price we got the access to the pedestal, our friends didn't. Wasn't a very pleasant situation.
sharon waithira
It has a good view of the statue of liberty. Nice park too. Great place to chill. Check out the bar for happy hour.

Castle Clinton or Fort Clinton, previously known as Castle Garden, is a circular sandstone fort now located in Battery Park, in Manhattan, New York City. Built from 1808 to 1811, it was the first U.S. immigration station (predating Ellis Island), where more than 8 million people arrived in the United States from 1855 to 1890. Over its active life, it has also functioned as a beer garden, exhibition hall, theater, and public aquarium. Castle Clinton National Monument was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on October 15, 1966.
Jessica NaRak
Famous place to visiting.
JEM Ma
Very nice park, with fountains to get wet in when it is hot out, and the entrance to the Statue of Liberty. Close to downtown area, and One World Trade.
Kristin Crowley
The fact that they were able to save this and protect it under NPS is just amazing. Yes it needs work but the sheer history of standing in a place that has such an amazing history makes it so valuable and worth the visit.
Lars H.
Tickets for the Liberty Tour are sold here. The surrounding is currently under construction and due to the mobile ACs it is a bit loud. Well situated in the Battery Park
Richard A Little
Not too much to see here but if you are ever near the Battery in NYC, why not? It is an interesting bit of history. It was built to protect the New York Harbor but never saw any action. It is not named for any of the current Clintons but rather for a former governor of NY, DeWitt Clinton.
K Loveland
A very cool historic place. Take your time here and take some pictures. This is also where you buy your tickets for the boats for Statue cruises.
David Davis
The monument itself is a small 19th century fortification with some historical photos and interpretive scripts. It's primarily visited as the place to pick-up or buy ferry tickets to the Statue of Liberty. Visitors should be aware that after picking up tickets, there is airport-style security adjacent to Castle Clinton prior to boarding the ferry. Prohibited items are poorly indicated at the ticket counter inside the castle and there are no lockers at Castle Clinton. Check the NPS website for the Statue of Liberty (under Plan Your Visit> Safety) for a description of the lengthy security process. Wait times are long, and the reservation time on tickets doesn't necessarily mean you'll board the ferry by that time.
Conor Crowley
Definitly should consider taking a stroll around the castle when waiting for your ferry. The castle and surrounding area make for a nice view.
Ahmed Hanoon
From here you can get the tickets to the ferry that takes you all the way to the famous Statue of Liberty and to Ellis Island then back to the castle .. the price for the ticket was 18$
Mike and Shawna Hual
Very nice and informative. The staff is helpful. It is a good spot to gather just before a Statue tour.
Jim Darrell
No tours were available when I was there, but at least it was open so I could walk around and get a feel for the place. Really interesting local history.
Marc Gonzalez
Not much to see here. Just a quick stop on the way to but your tickets to go see the statue. Pretty cool to have this in the middle of the city.
Rajesh Kumar
You need to be here to catch the ferry to Status Of Liberty. We were lucky to see a street performance and enjoy cool breeze.
Nick Mayer
Part of the Ellis island experience, do your self a favor and explore this monument and surrounding area. You won't regret it, time well spent.
Francisco Alvarez
It was a cold morning with the wind it made it seem much colder, however it was an amazing day and we got to check off another item of our places to see while in NYC Castle Clinton. If you get a chance stop by and check it out,
Bob Ayotte
A must see, worthy of being on your bucket list.
Abel Kurian
Great historical attraction
Manjinder Shergill
Well worth a visit if you have time.
Too many tourists are distracted by the queue for the statue of liberty and miss this place out completely.
Tamer Mansour
A wonderful place and an important landmark for New York
Hector Vega Castro
Get the crown tickets, I think it's a few months wait list. But worth it completely, you can skip the line and get to go to the crown. BRING CASH AND WATER and a solid caeram
c c
Fantastic grounds. Very calm and peaceful. But be aware of the tour people just say you've got tickets.
Adebodilan
You can buy your tickets to the cruise there. But if you want to access the crown, you have to purchase the ticket a month ahead of the departure
Littleted
A fine historical monument but more of a jumping off point for the statue of liberty ferries these days. Still worth a look while you wait for the boat.
Isaiah I-Say-ah Walker
A lil piece of early NYC history at the edge of Manhattan! Has lots of interesting information about the site and how it has changed over the last century posted inside the monument...
James Milne
It's really fun to go downtown and learn about the way people lived in the old city. Castle williams across the wata' on governors island is good too.
Abhijeet Gulhane
There is no proper arrangement for visitors. They have to stand in the queue for hours. No shade provided too... The playing area is good
Robin Teagarden III
I've been to events at Castle Clinton a few times and I'm so glad that they didn't remove it a long time ago like they have with so much of the historic relics. It's so easy for people now to forget that New York exists because of it's proximity to the Hudson river and the Atlantic ocean. The views from Castle Clinton are wonderful, because it's one of the few places on the New York waterfront that you can see a sunrise or a sunset.
Nancy Austin
This structure houses ticket sales, a gift shop and restrooms. Minimal signage gives you some basic history about this site and other nearby historic sites. More a way finding marker as is.
Wayne Bowman
It's the place you stand in line to get Liberty and Ellis Island tickets. Can be a long wait on busy days, but at least there's free wifi, which isn't as common as you'd expect in NYC
kirkdis
Old Castle in the southern New York. Next to the castle is a park with lots of musicians and attractions. There is also a Ferrypeer. You can see the Statue of Liberty from here but it is quite far away.
Nicolas Op de Beeck
Nice place to be, mostly used to wait for your boat tour to Statue of Liberty. Enough opportunities to eat, something like hot dogs, etc
William Rausher
Beautiful park, beautiful views!
M T
This is the stepping off point for The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island so the monument can easily be overlooked.
Lots of history here so take time time to take a look at The Castle.
Valeria Ramírez
Liberty, starts when finish the other
Dan Choma
It's a cool location for a ticket office. The queues were not bad and the toilet wasn't filthy. The water to wash my hands was bitter cold
Tiffany Coleman
This is a great place to pay your respects to those lost at sea in our military. The eagle is quite amazing to see in person.
David Beckett
Not much to see really. Circular fort with gun ports. Place to get tickets for ferry to Ellis and Liberty Islands. It is free but that's about it.
Conor Hennessy Sykes
A nice piece of architecture with some very interesting history, though now used primarily as a ticket booth for the Statue tours, its worth a look.
Constantin Lewin
Excellent stop if you are on your way to statue of liberty. You will get your tickets really fast if you ordered them online in advance
Michael Ciurea
Tons of history here!! Be sure to read the info surrounding battery and the cannons.
Jose Alonso
Lots of people smoking Marijuana on surrounding area of the subway. Good spot to see the statue of liberty and take the ferry if you want a closer view.
JR McFarlin
Loved visiting here!! Glad we were able to see lady liberty! The view from the pedestal is amazing!!
Tyler Larsen
Good, clean bathrooms. Women's was out of order. Fascinating history. I learned it used to be an aquarium. Weird. No charge by the way.
Millie R
It's quite neat, I wished I could have stayed a minute longer to really look at it, but if you are in battery park already I recommend you stop by.
Wilfredo Curet
A beautiful place, full of History.
