Reviews of Andrew Jackson’s Hermitage
renee brumm
Absolutely beautiful scenery. We did the mansion tour and the grounds access and there was so much to explore. It was really cool to feel you are walking through history and learn about the lives of everyone who lived there. I would recommend about 3 to 4 hours to do everything. We came around 4 and did not have enough time to see everything. I enjoy history and reading everything so it does take me a bit longer to get through everything. If you like just looking at pictures may need a little less time! But definitely give yourself enough time so you do jot have to rush! Would recommend.
Diane Cecil
We had time between arrival and check in so we decided to stop and lock the grounds. We had about an hour wait before I could tour the mansion. There's plenty to do from the museum to the wine tasting to walk in the grounds to make that time go by very quickly. The grounds are gorgeous. All of the varieties of trees are very interesting. Thinking that some of them are hundreds of years old is incredible.

We chose to do the VIP tour. It was great. I really enjoy having a knowledgeable person explain to me what I am looking at. Otherwise, I just blow past everything too quickly.
The grounds are absolutely beautiful. I could just spend the day walking outside enjoying the plants, wildlife, and scenery.
The house is really well preserved with a lot of the original stuff. It was very impressive.
We learned a lot about Jackson. His story is quite impressive. I'm so glad we visited. This is one of the better presidential places we have been.
Sumner County Realtor, Cassie Lee
I have lived 15 minutes away from here for 20+ years, yet never been here! Over 1100ac on the Hermitage once lived in by Andrew Jackson and his extended family and workers. Definitely do the carriage ride tour and museum tour! Lots of opportunities for some pics and a great history lesson. It’s so beautiful this time of year!
Devan Dean
The tour was straight to the point, didn't take forever either, maybe 30 minutes. The walk around the whole area was pleasant, and there's even a horse carriage ride you can take, don't know if you have to pay as I didn't take it. The price, in my opinion, was hefty for a little piece of history, coming in at $24 per adult. But it was a very nice day out so walking around and looking at old buildings was kind of relaxing.
As for what there is to look at, it's mainly Andrew Jackson's house with a few buildings you can walk into but there's not much in them and they're very small, I believe they have an event we're they play some older sport.
The gift shop was mediocre, mainly books about stuff other than the president.
There's "Wine Tasting" but no one was in there when I went in so, can't give you details on that, sorry!
Overall, it was a good way to waste a few hours of my day, enjoyably.
P.S.
Also, I met two awesome folks from PA during the tour and got my picture with them, however I forgot their names, if you two guys are reading this, feel free to follow me on here and I'll try and find a way to get in touch!

Excellent displays and film. Very up to date. Tour of the house was great, much more enjoyable with actual people explaining the rooms. Got to pick actual cotton! Free Audio guide via cellphone worked great for touring the grounds. Learned a lot and peaked our interest to learn more about Gen Jackson.
Randy
We looked around in the museum for a bit and then we did the mansion tour. The house was beautiful and the people in charge of the tour were very knowledgeable about Andrew Jackson and his house. We also walked out to where some of his slaves lived and he treated them pretty well. It was a beautiful day when we went and I'm thinking of coming back in the future. I would recommend this place to anybody who would want to know more about our seventh president.
Katrina Qualls
We had a beautiful April evening to cruise the river! The entertainment was so much fun to listen to and watch. There was a lot of talent on that stage. We enjoyed getting to know the people sitting at our table, and food was good and filling. I especially enjoyed the dessert with a cup of coffee!
Marilyn Chi
Amazing home with lots of history about Andrew Jackson and his home. We did half hour mansion tour which included the grounds. They also have self guided audio tours which you can download on your phone in which you can roam around the grounds on your own. We also went onto the horse drawn tour. We spent about 5 hours here and just took our time wandering the grounds. Keep an eye. You may see a bunch of turkeys or a mole burrowing in his hole.
Kristi McFadden
I actually really enjoyed the history and experience here. The docents were great & the preservation is so amazing. The weather was perfect in late October to walk the grounds & see the different locations they've kept as part of the property. Don't skip the garden, cemetery or walking out towards the fields.
Michael Newhouse
Gorgeous home and grounds...fascinating history. Definitely worth several relaxing hours!
I paid extra for the house tour. Not very extensive, but I love history and old buildings...so worth it to me.
Jake The Snake
Jay was so great on our tour. Trip through the museum and of course to the mansion was so great. He provided the history while we walked there and gave us an extensive knowledge of exactly why Jackson called this his home. Walking the grounds on a beautiful day made it perfect. I'm so glad we included this in our honeymoon experience and part of our journey to Tennessee
Danny Allen
We only had time to tour the mansion, but it was well worth the tour. The inside of the museum is ornate and grand, as you would expect, but Jackson definitely showed his frugalness in some of the smaller details. We had Nick S as our tour guide and he did a great job, we loved our tour and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a good tour.
Kathy M
We picked a cold day to go but it was so worth it. We didn't see all the grounds so it's a perfect reason to go back. I also learned a lot about him that I didn't know. They have discounts for Veterans and Seniors. Well worth going the museum is fantastic and the house it's self is amazing with so much original things in there like wallpaper of all things it's still beautiful.
Moss Squad
The tour guides were so knowledgeable. I used the audio guide on my walking tour and it made the experience more interactive and fun for my family. We took the carriage ride and the guide Craig is such a great story teller. Definitely recommend the carriage ride.
Kevin Davis
Beautifully preserved part of our history and the people running it are genuinely concerned about its preservation. A must see in the Nashville area. We did the mansion tour and highly recommend that portion of the tour.
Kathleen Butler
A must see when visiting Nashville! Went on a mansion and grounds tour, wonderful tour guide. Very informative and impressive preview video. Definitely educational and great for all ages. Accessibility is a bit limited though.
Greg Squyres
Andrew Jackson is an interesting, complicated character. Visiting The Hermitage, we learned a lot about the former president and got to tour the mansion as well as the beautiful grounds. However, we were also able to tour slave quarters on the property and learn much about their life at The Hermitage. Of particular interest was the story of Alfred Jackson, a man who was born a slave at The Hermitage, became a free man during the Civil War, but returned to The Hermitage after the war to serve as a caretaker. The cabin in which he lived as caretaker as well as his burial site can be viewed during the walk around the grounds.
The philosophy of The Hermitage appears to be to present the actual history of Andrew Jackson and his home, including the good and the bad, and allow each individual to make his or her own judgments. Staff members were all helpful and knowledgeable, and the tour guides were quite interesting. I left The Hermitage learning more about the former president as well as the history and culture of his time.
Marlena Karwowski
Second oldest museum in the United States, President Andrew Jackson’s home is a site to see. His final resting place as well. Going back in time is an adventure here. The grounds are unique and worth experiencing. If you enjoy history this will be an enjoyable and stimulating trip down memory lane.
Mark Barnes
We had a great time here. We did the vip tour. It was well worth the money. The tour lasted about 2 hours and you are able to take pictures on that tour. It is a really awesome place to visit.
Tyson Brown
Must visit! Incredible piece of US history. Went during the fall where the colors were brilliant. Great tour guides. Informative. Awesome gift shop.
Melissa Norton
Such a beautifully kept landmark. The house is so lovely and its amazing how they habe kept everything just the way it was when the family lived there, Down to Andrew Jackson's actual shoes by the fireplace. Highly recommend a visit!!
Danielle Parr
Absolutely wonderful and well worth the somewhat steep pricetag. Compared to other area attractions that cost more- this has far more value. What a beautiful property. I highly do NOT recommend coming July if you can avoid it but it's worth the stop. Just don't push it too far, we did lol. Make sure you bring water in. You'll regret it if you don't.
Daniel Duran
It was a great experience going through Andrew Jackson’s Hermitage! Got to learn a lot about the life of America’s seventh President which the Hermitage has a lot of great tour guides on site that tell you about anything so I definitely recommend taking a tour of the inside of Andrew Jackson’s home! It’s really beautiful with 90% of the things inside the home is all originally from the former President! Good place to spend a few hours in Nashville!
Aimee Hill
The guided tour of this historical estate was fabulous! Characters were dressed in period costumes and were delightfully knowledgeable while effectively educational! I really appreciated that there were so many artifacts preserved here. I especially loved that multiple perspectives were conveyed regarding the history.
Cody Bruce
The Hermitage, the 1,000+ acre site was owned by Andrew Jackson, the seventh president of the United States, from 1804 until his death at the Hermitage in 1845. It also serves as his final resting place.
We enjoyed the mansion and grounds tour. The staff were nice and informative. No photography in the house.
Randee Warga
We purchased tickets to tour the grounds. It also provides information to download an app on your phone for the AUDIO tour while you're walking. They have markers numbered telling you what audio clip you should be listening to. Going in the mansion wasn't part of our tour, but there are several doors open with plexiglass that you can look in. The kitchen & smoke house do have buttons you can push to hear an audio about them. The entrance to the garden with the Myrtle's draping over the walking path is breath taking. Uncle Alfred (Jackson loyal slave) "cabin" was sitting right behind the mansion. They have a board talking about him. For me when I stepped in it hit me pretty hard knowing I was standing in a man's prison. Yes, I know Jackson was known as the people's President but, they were still slaves. And it laid on my heart heavy. History is amazing to learn & see, some of it to be proud of & celebrate. But some of it should be taught to never go down that road again.
Scott Freburg
We lived the Hermitage. The house tour gave a lot of history on Andrew Jackson. Although he did some things I don't agree with it was 1804-1845 so things were different. It was nice to see out bldgs and history of not only Jackson, but his slaves and land.
Sam Sachs
Absolutely worth a visit for anyone who's interested in history. The grounds are very well kept and offer a few walking paths to explore. I definitely recommend walking to the back of the park and checking out the area where the slave quarters were. It was quiet back there and not many people seemed to venture that way. Also make sure to take the time and do the mansion tour to see some truly authentic artifacts. I also recommend booking tickets online. We did not, and had to wait nearly two hours for the next available for tour.
Alex Kark
Beautiful site to visit and take in history! Well curated Hermitage estate house, beautiful gather - so much to see! Highly recommend visiting this to learn about our seventh president.
Zinuhe Tinoco
We attended the Sip of History event. Tickets included unlimited samples from over 20+ distilleries. Every vendor was friendly and knowledgeable. The bonus was that you can explore the grounds while sipping samples and learning about history.
asaf fishelevitz
A CD wonderful and well preserved mansion from the 19th century, house of president Andrew Jackson. You can enter the gardens and walk around the estate. The inside tour takes about 30 minutes and it is very nice to see how well things were preserved. Best to book the tour ahead of time, the mansion is not very big and groups are fairly small. Guides are dressed with periodic costumes. Really enjoyed it!
Ashton Mosley
Wow, what an incredibly informative experience! We took the "In their footsteps" tour. I learned so much about Andrew Jackson and about the individuals he enslaved. Our tour guide (Kira) was fantastic.
Jessica Cummings
Really great experience! Must do if you are in the Nashville area. I learned so much and our kids loved it. There are several tour options you can do that all have varying costs. We added on a wagon tour that took you all through the plantation and down to the slave quarters. The guide on the wagon tour was amazing and full of knowledge. The tour guides at the house are all in costume and also have tons of knowledge about the Jackson family and the estate. Overall well worth the money and time. Plan to block out a couple hours for sure maybe more. There is some walking if you want to walk down to the original Jackson home. But it isn’t too far of a walk. Inside the house you have to be really careful to not touch anything even the walls because some of the wall paper is original. Our 2.5 year old did get a little bored inside the house tour but our 9 year old ate up all the history. We ate at the restaurant on site but we weren’t super impressed with it.
Rachel Kelly
The estate, garden and mansion were all so beautiful! The tour guides were very knowledgeable and we learned so much! The gift shop was great and reasonably priced, and the wine tasting was a nice added bonus! I definitely recommend if you want to escape the hustle and bustle of downtown Nashville and do some touristy things.
Sarah Felsing
Beautifully preserved house and grounds! Lots of great history presented in a way that’s thorough but not too overwhelming. Kids 6 and 8 stayed interested for our visit, which was a win!
Great museum and gift shop! So glad we made this a part of our visit to Nashville!
Michael Gay
Great visit. The cafeteria onsite was a huge disappointment. Very slow service. Food was average. The house, museum and interpreters were excellent. Recommend seeing the museum and eating off property.
Grace
We had a wonderful experience here with our homeschool group. Very informative, very age appropriate for elementary all the way through highschool. The tour and educational classes and films were excellent, but I wish the itinerary we had been given allowed for a more leisurely experience. We always felt like we were rushing from place to place and exhibit to exhibit to the point I felt the need to photograph the historical signs to read later to speed along and meet deadlines.

Beautiful grounds and home of General Jackson.. Awesome staff tour guides. Make sure you stay off the floors! Make sure buy some wine on your way out, iwe bought red and 2 whites....that good!
Andrea A
I wish we could have seen all the rooms on the guided mansion tour. It seemed that they split groups to make the most of the timed tours, but the information provided by the docent was great. Learned a lot and appreciated the narrated self walking tour of the grounds and garden. Such a beautiful property and really enjoyed learning about the history and background of Andrew Jackson. Also enjoyed the wine tasting at the end.
Aprille Evans Wright
It was a bit chilly when we went through at 3:pm, so suggest you wear a nice warm coat.
We really enjoyed the winery 🍷 after the tour.
sarh mak
200 year old house on a plantation from the slavery Era. Quite an important part of history. Rooms are blocked off with glass screens to preserve the interiors. Enjoyed the stories told by staff about President Jackson.
maureen mason
A great place for history buffs. Excellent preservation of the home and grounds. Only disappointment is that you are not allowed to take pictures inside the mansion.
Lindsey Neeley
Great experience! Tour guides were wonderful and very patient with the many “adults” who were unable to follow simple directions given prior to the tour. I’m going to help them out - stay off the original tulip poplar floors, there is PLENTY of carpet to stand on. They literally had to repeat this 3 times within the first 5 minutes and I can only imagine how frustrating that is. Be better visitors and listen!
John Dale
Andrew Jackson’s home is well preserved. The tour is quite restricted to insure the house is not damaged by visitors. The grounds are beautiful and have kitchen, slave quarters, etc.
Daniel Marciante
Absolutely beautiful grounds. Took the VIP tour and enjoyed hearing all about Andrew Jackson and his family. The mansion was cool to see but to hear all the stories is to appreciate who the man was. It was an enjoyable and informative couple of hours!
Anthony Pizza
The house is extremely well kept for it's age and the garden in the back is incredible. When it comes to historical significance in America, this property is a must visit. The society in charge of this property has done a good job not hiding or glossing over any aspects of Jackson's life. Slaves were a big part of this farm and their stories are told in great detail throughout the tour. Definitely worth the ticket price, but just know there is plenty of walking if you want to see everything on the property.
Charlie C. (charliejcao)
Great experience! Watched the shot intro video and I love it a lot! Then I purchased the DVD for the full movie of it. Definitely recommended.
Michael Hecker
A must see in Nashville! What a great place to visit and learn about our 7th President. The history and mansion tour are well worth the price. The gardens were amazing. Congratulations on keeping most everything authentic, including furnishings inside the home. A fascinating man and President.
Cyndi Wozny
Very Interesting...have more original artifacts than any other presidential estate you can visit. Beautiful grounds...you will have a bit of walking to tour the house and see the grounds, and wheelchairs cannot access 2nd floor of the house, but everything else is wheelchair accessible.
Allison DeInnocentiis
Incredible grounds! The tours were running a little behind so they give you a history on the porch about the house. The grounds are HUGE so wear comfortable shoes. Some paved and some stone paths. You walk far from the ticket booth to the house. Also we didn’t take a picture of the code to do the audio tour and couldn’t find it anywhere else on the grounds - so get it at the ticket booth! The tour guides were good - you have a different one depending on what area you are in.
Jacki McGuire
Truly enjoyed this site. The staff was very knowledgeable & shared a lot of interesting details throughout the tour. The home is well preserved and we appreciated the care taken to continue restoration efforts. The grounds were beautiful & well maintained. We enjoyed meandering the paths and reading the many markers that shared what life would have been like. Highly recommend to any history nerds like us!
Herb Busler
So I really enjoy history. The fact that Jackson lived here and built two homes is pretty cool. The guid was perfect. The homes were really taken care of. There is so much information throughout the property that we learned a bunch about our 7th president. If you want Thu take your time and really enjoy it I world set aside 2 hours. That's the tour and walking around and reading about all the history.
Chantelle Prejean
Definitely worth going to! Also, pick one of the upgraded tours, I wish we had time or planned out our trip more to go to another one.
Laura Wilson
A must see for everyone who needs a reminder of history pre-Civil War. We learned a lot about this President Jackson, his views and leadership. The mansion tour is quick, but I would not recommend it for kids under 9 or ten. The grounds are wonderful and kid friendly. The garden was my favorite. Take some time to meet our 7th president.
Peggy Askins
I recommend the house tour and the wagon tour. All the guides were very informative and knowledgeable. Also would recommend having a wine slushier while touring the gardens!
Nexttoargyle
We took the ghost tour of the mansion and grounds. It was a wonderful experience. Keith and Logan were great guides! I would definitely recommend!
Rhonda Anderson
We took the VIP tour and it was certainly worth the money. Our tour guide, Bryan, was full of knowledge and very friendly. It's a beautiful place.
Jason Laser
We spent 3 hours here and didn’t feel like we wasted time. Take your time and walk the entire property to see it all. The mansion was nice. The guided tour was good. The grounds were beautiful. The museum and film were very interesting. I wish we could have seen the Presidential part of the museum, but for some reason it was still closed due to “COVID”. Almost all of the Hermitage is outside so plan accordingly based on the weather. The wine tasting was decent, but the price per bottle was pretty high.
Bobby Hancock (The wondering Biker)
This was a wonderful experience and a great history lesson if you have never been here I highly recommend it and it's such a beautiful place and the wild life on the grounds is so beautiful
Nick Carbonaro
Loved the tour! Short and sweet which made it enjoyable for my kids who are 7&6. The wine bar was a nice touch (free tasting with tickets!) they had a main part of the museum down which is why I have it 4 stars. This part included a lot of his presidential artifacts which made the museum and exhibition just a hall of signs.
Kristen Burch
The grounds are beautiful and we really enjoyed our experience. It was really amazing to see and hear about the history.
Doug Hurst
Revealing details about the most popular president since Washington up until that particular point in American history. Worth the time and money.
Jason Laube
We really enjoyed the VIP tour. My son, who was 9 at the time, enjoyed it as well. Such a unique opportunity to visit the personal home of one of the most interesting Presidents in history. They talked about his great accomplishments, but also his flaws. I appreciated hearing both sides to this complex man. I’d recommend this for anyone interested to learn history, see history and be apart of that history. The grounds are beautiful, the house is well preserved and our guide was so kind and knowledgeable. He wasn’t afraid of any question. If you have 3 hours and are in Nashville, do stop by.
Anthony R
Was a great piece of history to go and visit if your visiting Nashville. Andrew Jackson's home is about 20 to 25 minutes away from downtown Nashville and we'll worth the trip!
Amanda Patchell
My husband and I enjoyed our visit here on October 1st. I didn't have overly high expectations when we came and was surprised how well laid out everything was! I found the museum particularly good and felt like they kept a balanced view and I learned quite a bit. The house tour was good also, it's not particularly long of a tour and you can't take pictures inside, but does not detract from your time. It was impressive to learn how much is still original to the house from Jackson's time there. If you enjoy presidential history, this is worth adding to your list! We took our time and had a picnic lunch and probably spent about 3 hours there.
Matt Votaw
Fantastic historical museum and grounds. Doesn't whitewash the bad parts of the history of President Andrew Jackson, and lean something new everytime we've come. Beautiful and important to experience.
Sharon G
Very interesting place to go. The movie was well done and presented the good and bad in a respectful manner. The mansion tour was shorter than expected, but the entry wallpaper was amazingly preserved. Only problem was trying to figure out the audio tour.
Shaun Bittinger
Very beautiful place to visit. I would suggest the summer to see all the flowers in the garden. Or fall for the colors. The house was cool too.
nissa lacy
It’s a really huge place, the garden was amazingly big,the cemetery where they are all buried, great place to visit
B Wood
Learned new things about the 7th President! Surprised by the size of the mansion. All of the tour guides where knowledgeable. I would stop by if in Nashville.
Kelly Rumley
What an interesting place and experience. My sister and I went and had a great time! We toured the house, garden, and went on the carriage ride and it was all so informative! Our carriage ride was hosted by Angela and she was such a great tour guide! I would highly recommend doing the carriage tour and learning more about all of the slaves that lived there
Lilia Millan
Very nice property, great views. Had fun on the carriage ride, tour guide was very informative .
James Doyle
History buffs will love this place. You get a feel for how and why certain decisions were made and a good feel for the complex man that Jackson was. The house is worth seeing and typical of mansion tours. The grounds are very nice with an informative audio tour that details the life of the times.
Frank X
Great history, meandering the grounds do the house tour or both. You can't go into all the rooms as most of the house and contents are original.
But the trails, landscape and history are fantastic.
You can spend a day to half day here and still want to come back.
Sammy Warren
We went with 3 of my siblings and our spouses. All but one of us over 60 years old. It's a fantastic place to visit. You will be climbing up and down stairs but we all did it just fine. We all agreed that it was a really great place and they were all glad that I had talked them into going 😀 I will go back next time I visit Nashville.
Kevin Blevins
General and president Andrew Jackson has one thee most spectacular plantations I have ever visited! Beautiful grounds, I visited this December so the gardens were not in bloom but still amazing. Every step you take, you was stepping in history. Not to mention the staff and your guides was so nice and respectful. 10/10
Jonathan Chen
Very organized and informational museum. Pretty cheap. Extremely knowledgeable your guides. Let us stay on the grounds far after closing.
Nick Ligon
A fantastically preserved home of one of the most prolific and charismatic figures in US history. The grounds are immaculately cared for and transporting you back to the 1800s does not take much imagination.
Well-represented are the stories and history of enslaved people here. Some nearby plantations should take note of the Hermitage’s example and reserve their estate for contemplation, reflection, and education into one of the gravest atrocities in human history. I commend the curator and staff here for bearing that in mind.
One of my favorite places on the property is the quiet trail that rambles alongside the creek. Yesterday I went and it was pouring rain. You’d think it would be a deterrent but I had the most magnificent, peaceful walk. It will stick in my memory for a long time.
My only complaint, and it’s not enough to detract from my overall rating, is the confusing layout of the audio tours. The signage does not help indicate where the start of one of three tours starts and where to go next. You might find a starting location that coincides with your audio playlist but walk down the natural path ahead and you could be way off. It would be best if the property map had different colored lines mapping out each trail. A simple fix but when I do a self-guided tour, I want to make sure I don’t miss anything.
I don’t typically visit places like this more than once but I for sure will be back. If not just to walk the grounds and revel in its solitude.
Dora Milburn
Informative. Some Tour guides wear era attire. Nice way to spend afternoon. Wagon tours.
Phil Weaver
Very interesting. Everyone was very courteous (except one of the guides who acted like he would prefer to be anywhere else). My wife need a golf cart ride from the visitor center to the house, and both ladies who transported us were very nice and engaging, as were the ladies in the visitor center and gift shop. Everyone made it a very pleasant and interesting experience, especially if you enjoy learning about American history.

SUMMARY. I did the Mansion Tour with my parents. It was incredible. So much history here. The mansion itself it gorgeous, and the grounds are vast and full of beauty. For $26, it is an absolute steal. Additionally, I was happy the estate made a real effort—and not just a superficial one—to discuss Jackson's role as a slave owner, which I mistakenly thought would be white-washed. That being said, there was little mention of his role in the Trail of Tears, which I think is an important part of his story (and America's) that was overlooked, in my opinion. Still, the visit was great and overall very informative. I highly recommend visiting.
MANSION. You really feel like you're standing inside history when you're inside the mansion. Everything is so ornate, and the tour guides do a great job of explaining everything in detail. There are no pictures permitted inside the mansion, which is understandable, but you can snap photos from the outside in. Such a cool place.
GROUNDS. The grounds themselves cover a huge swath of land. My parents and I spent a considerable amount of time walking around after the mansion tour. There are several stations that go into detail about what slaves endured while working the lands, which I was very happy to not see downplayed. I definitely recommend spending an hour or so walking around the grounds and reading up on the estate's controversial history.
TOUR GUIDES. The tour guides were very nice and incredibly knowledgeable. Some were even dressed in Jackson-era clothing! This may not sound like a big deal, but it did a lot for the aesthetic, and I thought it was great and showed dedication!
VALUE. The value is unreal. For $26 each we got a mansion tour and complete access to the grounds. Great deal!
TAKEAWAYS. For $26, you have to check it out at least once (it was my parents' second time, and they still thought it was great). There's so much to take in—both historically and aesthetically—and the tour guides are an absolute wealth of information. The Hermitage does a good job of addressing one of the controversial issues surrounding Andrew Jackson: the fact he was a slave owner. The other main issue, his mistreatment of the Native population and the Trail of Tears, was largely unaddressed. Still, I recommend going, even if only to walk the grounds. It's a truly splendid experience.
Happily,
Clayton Cohn

I had gone on the "In their footsteps " tour in regards to the enslaved. The educational coordinating director was our tour guide and she did an amazing job in explaining the plantations history with it's people with respect and grace. She was incredibly informative and made the tour enjoyable! The whole area was gorgeous, clean and well kept.
We also had a complimentary wine tasting afterwards. And it came with three tastings. The bartender was welcoming and friendly. It was definitely a wonderful stop for history and light walking.
Stephen Roberts
Fun stop. We’ve been to Gettysburg, Mt. Vernon and other trips. I preferred some of the others none the less the staff was nice and knowledgeable and the home and park was beautiful.
Sheldon Watson
This is an amazing opportunity to really learn more about the President and his home. The historic components are very well documented and displayed. The audio tour really adds to the experience and the mansion tour was a highlight. I wandered through and was there for over 5 hours and probably still didn't see it all.
Danielle Hintz
Such a beautiful sight to see! If you’re heading to Nashville anytime soon and if you’re a history nut, this is a must. The garden is absolutely gorgeous and the property in itself is very well-kept.
I also was very impressed with the focus on the slaves and their lives. It was refreshing to see such a beautiful tribute to their impact on the plantation and how they lived their lives.
Jessica Ritchie
Loved the long walk. About 3 miles all together. And the landscape is gorgeous. The house, the history, the story... it needs to be heard and remembered.
Kathie Pearson
Nice way to spend an afternoon. Lots to see and learn about the 7th president.
Ophelia Grace777
Five stars for the museum grounds and preservation of The Hermitage. It was easy to find and a pleasant walk despite the scorching heat.
Andrew Jackson's Hermitage is well preserved and beautiful. The mansion tour was very lackluster and somewhat disappointing. The tour guide didn't even know where our free wine tasting was...a big red flag. Another tour guide said it was in the first building area where we presented our tickets. Our tour guide was difficult to listen to and understand unfortunately. Maybe she was having a bad day. The tour groups seem to be disorganized and conflict with each other. I found myself overhearing other tour guides and groups since we were so close to each other in the mansion. I would have preferred the VIP tour, but it was sold out. I got more information about the Hermitage and Andrew Jackson online than the tour guide. This was a problem for me.
The wine tasting was so so. I had to locate the place by asking the people in the ticket center area and another tour guide. Once I located it, I noticed there were no lines or anyone to direct me where to go. You just walk up to the crowded bar and show your ticket & ID. The lady giving the wine tasting gave the best service in the Hermitage.
The gift shop staff were semi polite yet cold. One of the gift shop ladies at the cash register said she could not give me change for $20. I told her I only had a $20 bill. I just needed change for $5 to use the penny press machine. She forgot to give me pennies though. I had to remind her. She said she could only give me 20 pennies or less for change to use for the penny press machines. She could have offered to help me get change from other sales people or ticket vendors. I decided not to say anything. I never had this problem with getting change.
The highlight of the tour was seeing the garden and the cemetery area by the mansion. Very beautiful flowers and picturesque. I do have to take away one star for the mansion tour an other factors. My companion thought it was lacking and overpriced. My suggestion is to save your money and pay for the VIP or Commander in Chief tour. It may cost more but you are saving money by getting better quality tour service. If you love revisiting museums, get a year membership. You get a discount on the pricier tours and unlimited passes for a year for the grounds pass and mansion tours tickets. I really wanted to give this place an excellent rating, but I can not dismiss some of the flaws I experienced.
Doug T.
Great place to see and staff super nice!! Will be back with other family.
Tammy Stanfield
Great historical place. Fun time
Hunter Reese
OMG how can one expect a fair or balanced review of this from me? Every moment of this trip thrilled me beyond belief. So much of the stuff was original. The mansion itself had very tall ceilings, so my beloved didn't hit his head - very uncommon for our historical treks!
I 100% suggest the VIP tour, if you can manage to do that. You get a few incredible perks, and moreover you get to do the tour with sone other die hard Jackson fans.
Every moment at the tomb, I felt my heart race because... wow. Just wow.
The restoration and current work going into finding more information about the lives of the enslaved is also very interesting. I didn't buy a ticket for that tour this time, but if I get to come back, that sounds fascinating.
*overflowing glee goes here*

So much history to explore and see. The video and museum have so much information and then the grounds and mansion are beautiful. It also has great wine tasting in a beautiful area
Greg Martin
We did a self-guided tour of the grounds. Interior of home was sold out. There is an app you can download, and there are several areas with numbered signs that correspond to what you are looking at and yiu can play short audio clips about each spot. They can be a little confusing due to different colored numbers that follow different guides. You can walk quite a bit here and enjoy several areas. Well worth the visit. Don't forget to check out the wine tasting room. Nice selection of wines.
Michelle Henderson
They have done a great job keeping this place in shape. The grounds are well kept. The house has plexiglass up at the different rooms to keep them from getting messed up. You can walk the halls and look through the glass doorways while listening to the tour guide. There's a gift shop with lots of stuff in the store but not everything is online. We were on a time crunch by the time we got done walking the grounds and touring the house so I didn't have time to look through the shop. There's a little cafe and a winery, Natchez Hills. They have a few tables. An awesome place for sure!!
Christine Weihbrecht
Beautiful! Great tour! Very knowledgeable staff. Cool gift shop!
Jeff Naramor
Lots of history in well maintained historical site. Went on weekday and wasn't too busy.
Carla Kelley
My Church had a booth there we had soooo much all the vendors were nice & friendly the food simples were good. Music good everyone was so friendly we're ready for the next one. Thanks Second Missionary Baptist Church on Hadley. Sunday service start at 10am.
G Radloff
It a long hike to get to the mansion from the ticket area.. Tour ran at least 30min late. 93 degrees out. Made us sit outside in sun for about 1hr with tour guide talking. Told us mansion was air conditioned. Got inside still hot. It wasn't working right. We were over heated and never saw the rest of the grounds with would have nice to see. They need some way to take seniors and disable people at least to the mansion. They had wine tastingthat day. And never found vineyard
Cutler Bernard
Had 14 in our tour. Should really be limited to 10. It's hard to get in and see the rooms without elbowing past people. Still a great experience but whew!
Grandma Moses
great guided tour. not too long. time to explore the grounds. interesting president, well kept historical home. good for history buffs.
David King
OK, so the tour is set up a little different, where you get a couple different tour guides, 1 in front of the house, one in the enterance and first floor, one for the second floor and another for the exit from the home. This causes the vibe to not really flow through the tour, but the experience is great. The grounds are self guided, and you should set aside time fo them as well.
Matt Ross
Pristine and informative. Do the mansion tour but also make the walk out to the slave quarters. You can feel the history walking around the property.
Tiffany Pelton
Stunning grounds, friendly service. Awesome experience
Just A Regular Person
Had zero expectations and knew very little about Andrew Jackson. Really impressed with the grounds and how much we learned about Jackson’s incredible life. Great for a family trip on a nice day. Nice staff. Highly recommend.
Prophetess Peggie Johnson
It was wonderful. Our tour guide was great. People go back to the past for many reason. One person must have went back to feed her bias and prejudiced demon. Me myself I went back to the past in hopes to here the real story. No Fake News, it felt good. I loved the place better today than I did back in the 60's. I was so young the first time I went to the Hermitage, 7yrs old, and now I'm 60yrs old, and these new generations kids aren't having this lying about history. God bless this young man, he's not a liar and his parents or guardians has raised him right.
God bless his people.
Thanks.
I ate on the lawn, shopped in the gift stores.
I even had a little wine slushy. I don't drink, so I tried just for the joy of it.
Today was a good day.poo
Al Iniguez
Great tour, would recommend the VIP tour.
Stacey Stiles
Tour guides were fun and knowledgeable. Outdoors was beautiful (but I wish it was warmer). Staff was able to squeeze us in for a wine tasting right before they closed. I would love to see (or participate in) further excavations.
Johanna C
What a truly lovely day trip from Nashville! For everyone who appreciates history, culture, beauty, or all of the above, this stunning slice of preserved Americana is worth the trip.
Splurge on the VIP tour. Mike the tour guide is a walking encyclopedia in period costume. You can thank me later.
Jennie Ritz
Wow. Such rich history here, some of which is heartbreaking. The grounds are gorgeous and very well-kept, and the tourguides (dressed to play the part) did great at bringing the past to the present and making us feel as though we had traveled back in time. I felt as though we had been transported to another world. A very eye-opening and visceral experience, and a trip to Nashville wouldn't be complete without stopping here. You won't regret immersing yourself in such a vital part of our country's history--the horrible aspects and all.
Doug Oxendine
I really enjoyed coming there today. The guides were very knowledgeable and love the history. But me and my 6 year old granddaughter were outside going to the cabins and such and the horses and wagon came by and my granddaughter asked me if we could ride. So when they got back to the main house and the driver stopped and was telling about stuff he stopped in mid sentence and asked real sarcasticly if we needed anything. I asked if it was part of the tour and he whispered something to the people on the wagon real smart allec about us. It was very UNCALLED FOR! We were just admiring the horses and it hurt my granddaughters feelings. It was all could do to drag him off of there and make him apologize. We were just standing there minding our own business and he had to be rude to us! I’ll never be back and you can bet I’ll tell others not to come to the Hermitage!! VERY UNCALLED FOR. Thank you …11/6/22
Shawn Perez
I absolutely loved This! There is so much to learn here. This was a very well managed establishment, very clean as well. So many photo opportunities as well. I was a little disappointed that I could not take photos inside the house but I can understand why. It was so interesting to see how a wealthy, well to do person lived their life back during this time period. The house is so magnificent and no bathrooms! My kids emitted it as well. If you work up an appetite during your tour there is a great cafe next to the reality nice gift shop!
David Osborne
Not sure of the adult price because we got a discount. Toured the mansion and went on the wagon tour. The wagon tour was $15,00 and well worth it. If you like early American history, don't miss it
Growing Up Grimes
We enjoyed our day at The Hermitage! The tour is well laid out, the audio guide is cool and our tour guide was funny and knowledgeable. The wine tasting is a nice touch and they had live music in the winery that day! Must see for your trip to Nashville!
Sugar Laing
The grounds are large and there are tons of signs with historical information on them throughout the estate grounds. The tour inside the mansion is very worthwhile and the guide is very knowledgeable. Great place to visit with kids but the tour of the mansion is not good for little ones. You cannot touch certain railings, the walls, or the wood floors.
equake 2
Went on the house tour which is short but still informative and interesting, then walked around the grounds to see the other sights. A great day trip to plan on a day when the weather is nice!
Gaelina MacDonald
Wonderfully preserved piece of history with lots of history to read and hear. Lots of the stuff they don't tell you in your school classes. Real history gently told.
Sam McKinney
The tour guide was very informative and had a wonderful description for everything. He answered all our questions and then some. The garden was absolutely beautiful.
Nancy Holcomb
So interesting. Love the history by seeing his life.
Brad Mcconnell
Very interesting place if you're into these types of history locations. Not a whole lot to see, but very enjoyable on a beautiful day. Also wine sampling included. MIL gets a free ticket with family getting discounted tickets. Definitely would recommend the mansion tour.
Ryan C
It was okay but I wish the we actually got to go into the rooms instead of looking at them through plexiglass windows. Has anyone ever heard of velvet rope to keep people where you want them to walk. Travelers rest was much better you can actually go into the rooms.
Erica Jo Byers Pelton
I highly recommend The Hermitage to anyone who knows little about history or loves history and knows everything! I did not remember anything from 8th grade U.S. history so this was a great way to learn. I highly recommend doing the audio tour and watching the video about Andrew Jackson. They also do personally guided tours. It is very interesting to go through the house and see how they lived back then. Those giving the house tour are dressed in old fashioned clothing and all of the volunteers and employees are extremely knowledgeable! There was not a question that they could not answer! The gardens are beautiful and very well-kept and there is plenty of land to explore. Sadly, this part of history included slaves but I believe it’s important for people to learn about all history not just the good parts.
Greg Andrews
Amazing visit! The VIP tour is a Must Do if you are a history buff! Kellie absolutely loves her job and knows her history! The VIP tour with her was one of the best I have had anywhere. Whether you like Jackson or not, its definitely a place with rich history for both the area, state, country and the family. Remember to stop down at the building by the well house for a sample of the Hermitage hot chocolate. If you like hot chocolate and love dark chocolate, it's definitely going to be your new favorite thing that you cannot find in a store.
Dawn Jones
Great tour. Very interesting
Morgan Nevarez
It was nice visiting. Very lovely grounds and I appreciated that they took care in presenting Jackson in a light that gave sight to both him as a president, a husband, and a slave holder. I enjoyed the grounds tour, that allowed us to take in the outside beauty. I also liked the audio tour that was easily accessible by cell phone. The garden is probably much more beautiful in the spring. The slave quarters were presented well in my opinion, but I felt like they gave little to the horrible conditions they must have faced. I enjoyed being able to go inside the original Hermitage on my own and feel like I was stepping through time. While he remains the most hated president (in my opinion), getting insight into his life at his home was eye opening. Definitely worth a half day trip. Just do your research. There are definitely some things that are sugar-coated here.
Tim Thompson
This is a great place to take the family for a fun and educational adventure.
The layout will encourage the kids to move around, and the docents will provide the educational information along with the various presentations that take place around the grounds.
We went on a weekday, so the crowds were fairly small (only 2 school groups). We walked the grounds and toured the mansion, and listened to the "Duels" and the "Horse Racing" presentations. Both were really fun.
We also had a quick lunch at the cafe on site.
Megan Syversen
Great exhibits! Loved the audio tour and ability to walk thru the grounds at our own pace. The historical interpreters at the mansion were exceptional.. very knowledgeable and took the time to answer all our questions.
Andrea Horton
Very well put together self-guided tour. You can make it as long it as short as you want, focusing on the points that really matter to you. Some of the costumed guides were very fun and informative. Beautiful grounds and a fair amount of walking around, spotted some great wildlife and learned a great deal I didn't know about Old Hickory!
Sofi
Can't say enough about this place. Beautiful grounds. Very informative. Nice workers. Amazing piece of history.
You get there and pay $20 for the basic entry and receives map. Go inside and they give you seen audio device for your tour (bring your ear buds.) The indoor area has displays, a short film and interactive exhibits. Once you go outside, there are numbers as you walk along the path (also shown on map. ) You can enter the number on your device and learn about the spot you are in. There are 2-3 numbers: the regular info, more info about Andrew Jackson's wife, and the kids version, which is very engaging. You can enter either or all to listen. There are also some reenactments around the property. You can see where Jackson is buried and where he lived. A lot of the home is exactly as it was during that time period. You can see cabins where his slaves lived. The Hermitage did a great job with providing information on the enslaved and the huge role they played in history. Would highly recommend anyone check this area out. Also, don't forget to drive to the other side where you can see the church where they worshiped and cemetery.
Phillip Gill
What an awesome place to visit. Andrew Jackson certainly had a controversial presidency but his home does not disappoint. Learn about Jackson, his wife Rachel and gain some historical perspective as well. You may have to wait a while but the mansion tour is spectacular, as are the gardens next to the mansion. The Hermitage is easily worth the visit if you find yourself in the Nashville area.
Scotty Torres
It was very informative and I like historical sites the only downside was one of the tour guides was not having a good day and kept nit picking at everyone for looking at things to long or even accidentally touching a hand rail or door trim
Sonya Liv
Very interesting to experience and see! However, they do not work on Wednesday. We made time to see it, but it really messed up the timing of our vacation for other attractions.
Kathya Tamez
If you're ever in Nashville, enjoy museums and history you must check out Andrew Jackson's Hermitage. We went in the middle of winter and middle of the week so it wasn't very crowded. We easily spent four hours exploring the grounds. I'm so glad we visited.
Jul Dickson
Really enjoyed all aspects of this attraction. The history was interesting and enlightening, the grounds nicely cared for and the mansion well maintained with the many original artifacts, and furniture from the Andrew Jackson family and era. You need a good three to four hours to see and enjoy everything.
Robert Langley
Really cool authentic representation of Andrew Jackson and his life. It's not cheap. A family of 4 with the wagon ride is 110 bucks. But..... There's a lot to do. The history of this place is amazing. My family loved it. The house is the same as it was when Andrew Jackson lived there. If your a history buff this place is a must see.
patsy andrews-vert
Very well restored, maintained and curated.
Andrew Dunsworth
Lots of good history facts and the museum was small but interesting. I would recommend taking the tour of the mansion in a smaller group, we had 12+, since you would have more time to appreciate what you are seeing.
Warren Alberty
Had a great tour with Bryan! You should ask for him. Suggest the first available daily tour and spring for the VIP option.
Eric Santiago
Great piece of US history. The grounds are well maintained and the Rachel's garden was serene.
Wayne Floyd
Extremely well renovated mansion and grounds. Does a good job of telling the story of Gen. Andrew Jackson and the enslaved community that operated the farm during his life.
Dave Payne
What a wonderful historic site - it’s privately owned so it’s important to support the Hermitage. Gorgeous 50-acre plantation that holds the original Hermitage and the mansion also known as such that was later constructed. Take the trail on the backside of the property if you’d like to see the gorgeous forest the property is on, the old cotton field, deer and wild turkeys - gorgeous nature! Nice staff guides you around the mansion. Worth the $20/person!
Matt Haseman
We the mansion and the wagon tours. Really enjoyed the mansion tour. The house is amazing with mostly original pieces. Excellent tour guide with very interesting stories. Wagon tour is okay if you don't feel like walking.
Jamille S Hawkins
Very interesting. I love history!
Kelly E
If you're a nut for history & historical sites, this place is for you. It offers pure American history: the good, the bad, and the ugly. If you can't handle real facts, don't go. I actually witnessed a lady have a nervous breakdown because she couldn't comprehend there were actually slaves here. That being said...
The estate is beautifully maintained. The mansion is architecturallly fascinating. The gardens are beautiful. A lot of the trees date back to the 1700s and are huge! Be sure to wear comfy shoes. We preferred the self-guided tour as to wearing earphones. I think that blocks the experience. The guides were extremely knowledgeable and ready to answer questions. Allow a minimum of 2 hours, and when you're leaving follow the signs to Tulip House...more history there as well!
Philip Schuler
Exceptional home and grounds. Unlike other places of historical note, most of the items, art, and furnishings are original. Take time to explore the grounds, including the spring, slave quarters, and gardens. The information does not sugar coat Jackson. He is shown as a slave owner who instilled fear of physical punishment in his slaves. Staff is very knowledgeable and in period clothing.
Deborah Shepherd
This is a return visit. Enjoyed a carriage ride this time, which provided some additional information. Sunday in May was much busier then a weekday in September.
Beautiful grounds, history told as it was. There are no pictures allowed in the Hermitage, Yet plenty other photo opportunities.
Judith Wyo
One of the most well done historical visits I have ever had was to Andrew Jackson's Hermatige Home. If you get the chance, come visit and plan to spend 2-4 hours there. The grounds are beautiful and everything in the home is original or restored. They turned it into a museum within about 20 years of his death because his son mismanaged their money and went broke in 10 years.
Peaceful and nice place to visit. We just walked around and read the signs and did not do any audio tour or tour guide, but it was obvious people who did got even more out of the experience.
chris B
This was a must do piece of history tour.
The staff is very knowledgeable. Every question is answered in the Mansion. We enjoyed it very much.
Melinda Carlson
This was a really great experience for me. Fascinating things to look at, and a walk through the Hermitage. I wish I could have taken a picture of the extremely questionably patterned wallpaper in the hallways. The guide was super knowledgeable, and we could have spent an entire day here just walking around.
Rene Begeansma
Very informative. The tour guides are knowledgeable. This is a must-see if you are into history.
hcbekardi
Found this place while visit the Opry area. So worth the visit. The cost for 2 adults is a bit expensive. The grounds are nice, the house tour tied it all together, our guide was super knowledgeable. So much history!
Gloria Flowers
Beautiful! Learned things I didn't know. Plan to spend 3-4 hours to see everything! Beautiful mansion ...amazing how beautifully everything was preserved! Not in the city so it's nice to be out of the traffic/congestion of the city. Good parking!
Leah Wheeler
It is a good idea to watch the documentary before heading out on your tour of the estate. Then, pick up your audio tour device. It would be nice to have ear buds for the audio tour. The grounds are vast, so we got plenty of exercise on the paved walks and on the path through the woods. The museum does a great job honoring the memory of the enslaved people who once lived, worked and died on the Jackson estate. It was a sad and tragic existence for them. We were told the house is staged as it would have been in 1837. It is lovely. The history of the house itself is very interesting. The tour guides were friendly and knowledgeable. We enjoyed our visit to the home of our country's 7th president.
Christine Gunsauls
Beautiful, historical site. About 90% of the memorabilia is from the Jackson Family (183 year old wallpaper!) No photos inside, but you can take all you want on the grounds.
Matthew Gooding
I had never visited before, and I absolutely loved the museum, the house, the garden, and the grounds. There is a ton of history, and original furniture. There are lots of historical boards that provide background information and pictures throughout the property. I thought that the guides did a great job of giving me information regarding president Jackson. I would definitely go again if I was busy Nashville.
Michael Lee Lowell
What a great place to visit. The history and such a beautiful mansion. The gardens were amazing. Congratulations on keeping everything authentic. The day we were there, it was very hot and a storm was blowing in. So we didn't get to see everything we wanted to see. But I'm sure that we'll be back someday.
David Mckerney
Would like to take pictures and walk around at own pace, without a tour.
I truely did enjoy walking the grounds here and visiting the large home. I loved the interrior. The decor was anazing, and if I had the money, I would love something like it.
Pictures, pictures, pictures... i like to be able to take photos of places I visit. Was not allowed to take any while in the house. This is a major disappointment for me.
BB's Boutique
Loved looking around the grounds. It's very informative and has an audio walking tour. Even though we only paid for the basic admission we still were able to view Andrew's tomb.
Katrina Stephens
Andrew Jackson is one of my favorite presidents. The property is very well maintained. The museum is very organized and the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. I recommend everyone to come and see the home of President Jackson.
Michael Jackson
Beautiful house and grounds and lots of interesting history about one of our nation's greatest presidents. Worth the money and a good value for all that you see and learn about. Make sure to set aside at least 3 hours for the full experience.
Thea Correll
We literally spent over 3 hours here without realizing it. Absolutely a must see! The audio on the tour makes you feel like you were part of the hermitage. Rachel's garden is something to be seen. You truly get to know Andrew Jackson as a person.
MB Cooper
Beautiful grounds and well thought out museum. This is my second time going, and each time I learn something new. The house and grounds are beautiful and worth exploring, so spend the extra money to see both.
Janne Kinnunen
Great educational experience for the whole family. You'll get a headset for audio tour. Locations for audio tours are shown in the area map and also in the signs along the paths in the area. There's introductory video in the auditorium to start the tour. Guides are very knowledgeable. Some of them have lived in the area for decades and know the history of the place very well. We decided to spend some time in the wooden trail which was very soothing. There's a small stream of water along the wooden trail too. There's about 1400 acres of land so you won't even hear the traffic in the woods.
Josh Wilson
Great tour and a lot for your money. We took the kids on this, 4 and 6. Both of them loved it and enjoy the kids audio tour which was included at no additional charge. It wasn't too crowded when we were there, Sunday morning. The history was interesting to see and listen too and the guides were great
Stephanie V
Well preserved grounds. However, definitely mixed feelings as you walk around the property in that Jackson had over 150 slaves.
Wear comfortable shoes if you want to do the nature trail at the back of the property as its partially wooded and a gravel path. I only had 2 hours which was enough to do the mansion, garden, tomb and the majority of the grounds. Need another 1/2 hour to do the museum, but it's not a must.
Lots of walking, some parts are gravel others cement pathways. Don't really recommend for children or strollers. Belle Meade Plantation is more family friendly.
Rick Mauk
Loved the history and the mansion. The grounds could use some TLC.
Ambarly French
No matter your thoughts on Andrew Jacksons presidency this is an extremely informative and interesting tour. With your ticket you get a self guided audio tour that works very well and makes it so that you can walk around and learn at your own pace. We took about 4 hours and were able to see everything and hear and read all of the information. The gardens and natural areas of the hermitage were gorgeous and almost worth the trip on their own. Just as a note, this tour requires A LOT of walking and you will be outdoors the majority of the time, just keep that in mind before you make the trip.
Ed Matyk
Great place to see America's history
Had a lot of fun
The docents are super cool and know a lot of information
See the bed or chair that Andrew Jackson used .
The museum has a ton items that are tied to Andrew Jackson or his family.
I learned a lot about the history of Andrew Jackson.
Audio tour guide was super fun.
Be sure to check out gift shop to remember your trip. There is also a cutie little cafe to have lunch or afternoon tea.
Be sure to see Andrew Jackson's tomb and the horses and livestock throughout the grounds.
Caitalyn Kowal
Wine tasting, café, museum, landscaped grounds, and tour guides. Lots to do and lots to learn. Nice place to study some history.
Will Vaden
The self guided tour is great. It is great for the whole family. Don't eat at the Cafe. If is VERY expensive. It was $60 for a family of 4. We ordered three cheeseburgers and a peanut butter sandwich. We all had a bag of chips and a drink.
Elizabeth Johnson
Interesting and I depth museum, home, and grounds. We happily spent 5 hours exploring here and thought it was well worth the drive and entrance fee. Along with an audio tour and a ton of historical sites there are costumed actors all over happy to discuss Jackson and the era's history.
Cristina C
Enjoyed walking the grounds but I felt the tour of the house was lacking compared to other historical homes we have visited. Overall it is more of a self guided tour where you listen to a hand held describe certain markers.
CMONE WINGO
A Must see when you visit Nashville Tennessee. The Hermitage is only a short drive outside downtown incredible history, original furnishings, original home. Quick note: Go early there could be long lines and quite a long wait we were lucky it was cool that day and there were no lines we went when they 1st opened at 9:00 a.m.
Brad DeRosby
Nice tour. Can't take pictures in the Mansion but you can take plenty outside and in all the other buildings. Entry fees are used to keep the place restored. If you take pictures inside, no one would come because they could see it for free. Believe me, it is worth the entry fee to listen to the history and see the beautiful mansion!! We recommend this place. Bring your friends, family and families to see you his historical property!
Ashley Morgan
There was at least a 45 minute wait to tour the home. You aren’t allowed to actually walk in any of the rooms. I couldn’t understand what a few of the guides were saying. It was close to closing time when we arrived (3 when we got there and they closed at 5) and it felt like the staff was just kind of over being there that day. We went in groups of 12 and that seemed to be to many to look inside the doors all at the same time. The museum was very informative and the area was clean. The land was beautiful.
Adam Miller
Lots of history, interesting and educational. Rooms viewed from the hallways. Most of the staff was very engaged and seem dedicated. However, our tour guide didn't seem very excited and smelt like booze at 10am.
Michiel Buitelaar
Exhibit high on content - great! Really insightful.
The building I could not get in. Long queue, even on a quiet day. The whole experience is over-structured, with all sorts of instructions, lanes, queues etc - could be more relaxed.
James Stephanek
Andrew Jackson's history is very interesting. The grounds are well preserved, the mini events are fun. Worth a visit on a less humid day! The wildlife the is near too.
Andrea Asher
The audio tour was informative however I would have liked to have been able to sync with the other people in our group... It would have been great if I had gone by myself but it felt like we were all trying very hard to stay on the same page.. also had some technical difficulties with some of the audio tour guide. Was very much looking forward to the garden. Unfortunately it did not live up to the expectation.
Jason Lei
A historical site of an American President with so many "achievements" that some people would appreciate but definitely not the others. Besides the museum, make sure to take on the relaxing trails also.
Ross Arnold
Wonderful experience. The buildings and grounds were incredible. Definitely recommended if your visiting Tennessee.
Gary Riger
AJ is a man of the people. Old Hickory‘s home is really fascinating. Ask them about the “best guest room” and the people who stayed there.
Ross Callen
We saw the grounds in a rare way... with a little bit of January snow. It's a beautiful place rich with history.
Patriot James
Lots of visual displays illustrating President Jackson's life and times. The house has 90% original furnishings and is a history lesson in itself. Beautiful grounds and garden. You'll want to set aside a good part of your day to explore. There is a Cafe on sight with live music and traditional southern dishes.
Nathan Wiehe
Visited here almost 15 years ago, still a magical site that is being preserved for generations to come. A great place to learn about our nation's history in numerous ways.
Tom Panepinto
Located just east of Nashville, this historic site is a must see on you vacation plans. The Hermitage was Andrew Jackson's, the seven President, home and has been beautifully restored. The tour includes the famous mansion, slave quarter's, smokehouse, spring house, stables and gardens. Plan to do a fair amount of walking and allow plenty of time to truly enjoy all that is offered. The tour also includes an audio device, with a map of the grounds detailing audio tracks to 'key' into. There is a setting for adults and one for children and we actually enjoyed listening to both settings throughout our tour. Overall experience was really nice and educational for the whole family.
Brian Hammett
This is an interesting look into one of the most controversial presidents in United States history. The mansion is the primary focus, but the surrounding land is also full of history lessons of farming in 1800s Tennessee. The museum shows the history of Andrew Jackson from birth to death with areas focused on his military career and presidential ambitions. Recommend for all fans of Presidential and United States history.
Jennifer Owen
The grounds are beautiful and we enjoyed the wine tasting. The house tour was sold out, so we didn't get to go inside.

My favourite mansion tour out of the three I visited. I saw Belle Meade and Belmont Mansion. This one contained the most original furnishings and wallpapers. The grounds were fun to visit. Tour was well done too.
John Phillips
Of all of the historical sites I have visited The Hermitage is at the top of the list. It is Andrew Jackson's Nashville Tennessee home and exceptionally well preserved. The Visitor Center where you begin your tour has a movie theater where you begin and an extensive collection of Jackson memorabilia and interactive displays. When you exit the Center you begin a tour of the grounds that leads you to the house. Tours thru the Hermitage begin every five minutes with groups of 12 beginning with the construction of the house. You are then taken inside for a tour thru every room. We were told 85% of the furnishings are original. More than most other President's homes.(Mount Vernon only has about 15% originals). There are several guides in the house explaining different aspects. No photography is allowed in the house.
When you leave the house there are different paths leading you to different areas of the plantation. There is the cemetary where the Jackson family is buried and the Grecian styled memorial where Jackson and his wife Rachel are buried and next to them is Jackson's lifelong slave Alfred who died in 1901 and is buried where he asked to lie.
Be prepared to spend at least 2 hours and probably more if you wish to explore all the sites there.
I highly recommend The Hermitage.
Austin Munday
Great tribute to Andrew Jackson, one of the best presidents of the USA.
Wendell Campbell
Enjoyed The Hermitage experience. From humble beginnings to American leader. Enough to see within 3 hours so good for a morning adventure before the heat and humidity came in. Educational and relaxing. Just walking around the property, which hasn't much changed in 200+ years, was just what I was looking for. Definitely a stop while visiting in Nashville.
Robert Fraser
This is a FANTASTIC interpretive experience of a too oft maligned President's home life. The home is a great example of provincial early 19th century American neo classical architecture-- a bit quirky, but lovely! A huge portion of the home's contents belonged to the Jackson family.
Stephen Douglas
The premises and settings are remarkably preserved. The historical "interpreter" said 98% of Jackson's estate is original. The physical aspect of the house, grounds and outbuildings are A+. Sadly, the interpreters, waiting in line, short tour of only the home, and no mention of Jackson's family cemetery made the overall experience earn an F+.
Saif Al-Alawi
We made a reservation for Friday which we could not attend but staff happily switched our reservation to Sunday, so thank you! Everyone is happy to assist, smile and make the 1800's come alive. I suggest going early during the summer before it's too hot.
Bill Kuch
It was educational, however, if you have issues with walking be advised that you will need to walk a lot to see all the buildings. Probably not a good venue for us seniors.
Shelley Neel
Very enjoyable and informative. Our tour guide, Jay, was terrific. He had a great voice and was very knowledgeable.
ESB III
Mansion and extensive grounds certainly worth seeing when visiting Nashville. The tour includes an opportunity to walk around the plantation and see the outbuildings. There is an air-conditioned building which tells the story of President Jackson and Rachel Jackson's lives.
Suzie Schoen
Planned this trip for 3 years. It was great!
One of the best historical homes I've been to.
Staff is welcoming and friendly, very knowledgeable. Loved it!
Elka
Well preserved and we loved the knowledgeable folks who dressed in period pieces. Take time to walk around the grounds. The guitarist in the wine tasting was great!
There is no photography inside the home.
Some insect stung a girl when we walked in, so look out for bugs.
Ki Ki
No complaints this place was everything you wanted. Explore the huge property of the Hermitage, tour Andrew Jackson’s mansion and his slave’s quarters, learn all about the history, and walk the peaceful trails in the woods on the property. Come here alone or with friends and family, but it will be fun and educational no matter what!
Suzy Fellabaum
Interesting tour however it is very scripted and does not go into much detail of the lifestyle or share many stories of the family other than what you might read in Wikipedia. The guides seemed more interested in making sure you stayed on the gray carpet and didn't chew gum (even shaming tourists like teachers in a classroom and making them walk outside to throw it out while everyone waited). The most information was shared about the specially printed wallpaper that A.J. had to have reprinted. Other than that there was little said about the furnishings and 90% of the original contents that were recovered. Most of which were gifts so you would think there would be more to say about them. It felt very rushed and incomplete. Luckily, the pricing wasn't bad but I don't feel like I would care to go back. I've been to Thomas Jefferson's Monticello twice and could go a dozen more times because there is so much information shared. It seems each guide hones into a different aspect and is truly interested in sharing about it. I believe you would get the same "canned" tour at the Hermitage so no need to revisit.
Julie Sisson
Very beautiful mansion! Tour guide was very informative! The garden was beautiful!! I'm glad we went when flowers were in full bloom!
Marcus Lodwick
Too precious about not allowing photos (without flash obviously) inside. Wearing black armbands a week after his death...really.? Contrast this with President Polk's house.
Erica Rook
Such a neat place to visit! I once visited the Heritage as a little kid and was fun and interesting to revisit as an adult! So much history.
Jeffrey Seidman
I had mixed feelings about visiting Andrew Jackson's Hermitage. I am a person who has a real problem with his Indian policies and their execution, but I am/was no expert on the time period and hold the belief that historical context is crucial when making such judgements. If you are such a person the "In Their Footsteps" tour is an absolute must. The tour guides you through the Hermitage from the slave perspective and provided valuable insights, stories and history. While this wasn't about the Indian issue, it shone a bright light on the complexities of the time period and Jackson himself. I also found the information in their movie and exhibits throughout, not only fascinating, but enthusiastic about understanding Andrew Jackson as a person, a leader and a president warts and all. They pulled no punches. They acknowledged his faults and presented his successes with equal attention. I find that very, very rare for any presentation of history and the Hermitage is a must visit because of it. In the end, I still have great issue with Jackson's Indian policies (which were discussed in detail through exhibits) but I also understand that he was the first populist president who cared deeply for the common man and his voice and his presidency changed our fundamental interaction with democracy on a national level. He believed the people should choose the president. I do too. Should Jackson still be on the $20 bill? I don't know and I am more conflicted about that now than I was before my visit. I do know that Jackson is a complicated character full of greatness and contradictions and I am grateful that the Hermitage layed that out in such fine detail.
sonya bard
One of favorite presidential homes, the garden and walk around the grounds was very peaceful. Wish they had a little more on everyday living of the slaves that ran the house and grounds. The staff we're very friendly and helpful with our questions.
Jim Wang Jr.
If you enjoy musuems, you can't miss the historical spot. I learned so much and enjoyed stepping back in time and exploring life in the 18th and 19th Centuries. The guides are dressed in accord and are willing to answer any questions. The entire Hermitage is kept up so well and the State of Tennessee clearly plans on keeping it that way. The garden area was very peaceful. Definitely recommend arriving earlier in the day to beat the rush. Also recommend taking your time and doing everything they have to offer. Including the wine tasting!
Landon Harvey
Fascinating history, great dedicated tour guides, all on a beautiful piece of land.
Christopher Butler
If they are running, I'd suggest taking the wagon tour. While my wife and I ended up walking the entire property anyway, this would be a great way for those with mobility issues to see all the estate has to offer.
Pàm Reithmaier
Detailed museum. Great gift shop. Staff knowledge able and helpful. Tours interesting, buildings well preserved. Trails easy to follow.
Charles Vega
The mansion tour is beautiful but not much information was given, it was more about the house than the president.
Douglas Yriart
Fascinating place. The guide did a very good job of telling the history of the plantation and the family. The grounds are beautiful. Well worth a visit.
Cisco Zap (Cisco)
Everything is amazing such a beautiful space. The ladies in the museum gift store are little nasholes but the rest of the interpreters and the museum staff are phenomenal.
Ashley Thesier
You must stop at the wine 🍷 store! …
Aj Froman
A must visit for history and non-history buffs alike.Skip the wine tasting option.
Beth Alexander
Very informative museum and home tour. No photos are allowed in the home. The restaurant is permanently closed. Make sure you allow time for the museum as there is lots of education there. We enjoyed it.
Native Texan
All of the audio, video and written dialogue encountered along our tour of The Hermitage, which encompassed Andrew Jackson's legacy, seemed primarily fixated upon shaming him for his acceptance of slavery, irrespective of it being a circumstance of his times. The shaming continues regarding his efforts to uphold his sworn duty to protect his nation's interests with regard to the savage and barbaric Indians of that era.
If you look past the politically correct apology tour which dominates this site, and if you first get educated on the facts before visiting, then indeed there is much to take in and enjoy.
Jeffy
Fun place to visit and learn more about Andrew Jackson. Had to kill time Sunday Morning before the Opry Mall opened so i went here. It was much better than i thought with the duel demonstration and history of how prominant Andrew Jackson was. Definitely a must do in Nashville!
Tom Callahan
Interesting. Most interesting was that as opposed to other very old "mansions" the woodwork was very common, almost Home Depot style as opposed to hand crafted.
The grounds were a nice walk.
Mark Marvin
Here in Nashville, and wanted to see President Andrew Jackson's home, "The Hermitage". Really enjoyed it, absolutely gorgeous home and gardens/grounds. A lot of history here, docents were friendly, knowledgeable, and very helpful. So glad we came, would recommend a visit to anyone thinking about it!
Ara Marie
The Hermitage is a very beautiful, educational and interesting place to visit. Whether you are an Andrew Jackson supporter or not, it's a great way to learn about American and Tennessee history. They have wonderful events here that are fun and teaching opportunities. We learned about dueling from a dueling expert. We picked cotton from the cotton field. We toured Jackson's home. It's definitely worth your time.
Maci Winkelman
The workers were very nice and they knew alot about what happened and who lived at the house. Also Wich room everyone was living in. They also had almost all of the real historical artifacts.
Frank Wilson
Beautiful mansion, well preserved grounds, and tons of history.
HOWEVER, the butterflies on the Field Quarter Trail were aggressive and had me worried for my safety. Also saw some deer.
Janice Hamelburg
Had an amazing time at the 5th Annual Fall Festival last weekend! Fantastic vendors, lots of kid-friendly activities, music and so much more. Really enjoyed walking around the property, gardens, etc.
Tim Zawisza
Plan for a half day tour. This place is worth the price of admission and a few dollars more. History story that does not shy away from the worst of mankind. Beautifully maintained original mansion& the grounds own story are impressive. Quite flat walkways ease access but there is a courtesy cart if needed.
Alejandro De Quesada
Outstanding historical site and a memorial to a president of the United States. Interpretive center has an excellent exhibit and a good gift shop. Well worth visiting.
Rebecca Alexa
A good place for history buffs. Can accommodate wheelchairs and people who cant walk far. House is beautiful. Tour guides dress in character. The home is a guided tour then you can walk the grounds on your own. Has a museum, gift shop and cafe. Ample parking for RV'S.
Wayne Obetz
We were visiting family in Franklin and they suggested we go to Hermitage to take the mansion tour. The Jackson home is beautiful, and if the tour ended there, you'd leave happy knowing a bit more about the man on the twenty dollar bill. But the story is not complete without walking to the original home that was later converted to slave quarters. The museum on the premises pays homage to several of the enslaved people who provided the labor from which the Jackson family derived their wealth. The short video in the auditorium did even more to provide a fuller picture of a man rightfully lauded for his efforts on the battlefield and in the White House, but also acknowledged his flaws. If the purpose of history is to learn from other's accomplishments so we can repeat them, and to learn from their mistakes so we can avoid them, this is a good place to get a worthwhile lesson.
Tina Putzel
What an incredible travel back in time to an Era that was both elegant and brutal. Thank you for your honest portrayal of this piece of history. It was very sobering.
Beverly R
Great historical tour with a lot of information. Take the VIP tour. It is worth it.
Kimberley Pauley
Guided Mansion tours or walk you way around the mansion grounds yourself. The walk is lovely and easy to do. Beautiful place. They also have a gift shop, inside exhibits, Cafe and plenty of bathrooms; both in the main bldg as well as out in the grounds. If you want to tour the Mansion inside, it's best to call ahead to book a time as they book up fast!
Jim Phillips
Toured mansion but the groups were too large and one ran into the next. Guides are knowledgable but with so many people and only the ability for two people to look in rooms at a time you miss a lot.
Rena M
This was so cool, my boyfriend and I enjoyed exploring with the media tour. We got to walk around at our own pace and check out the history all over the property.
Jane Hesser
A lot of walking if you have trouble walking, but it was really interesting and a lot of benches to sit on along the way. Beautiful and loved the history.
Daren
Best president's home I've seen so far. The only thing that would make it better would be the ability to take a good photo of the front of the mansion. The trees are in the way. The audio tour was really well done and the buildings and furnishings are quite well preserved.
Gary Kibble
Excellent tour of the home of President Andrew Jackson. This is a large estate with lots to see with a large gift shop at the end.
Keith Prive
The most well-preserved presidential estate in America. This estate includes the Jackson family mansion and farmland. The the interior of the mansion is primarily composed of original furnishings. Tour guides give a tour of the mansion and audio headsets are provided for info on the rest of the tour. There is also a re-enactment of a colonial duel that takes place at the top of every hour on the Hermitage lawn. The caretakers of The Hermitage are very passionate and knowledgeable. Be sure to ask plenty of questions!
Gil Ped
Alot of information to learn. Plan on a long day exploring.. wear comfortable shoes. Overall good tour
alma ramos
Great place to learn about President Andrew Jackson. It’s his actual estate. I would bring comfortable walking shoes. You also get to go inside his home. It is the cite of archeological digs that brought insights to the life of slaves I. That time period. It is a dark part of American history, but it is good to learn about that time and reflect on it to ensure that history doesn’t repeat itself.
Yvette Skinner
Fantastic historical tour. Excellent info in the museum and the audio tour really enhances the visit. It's a place you could spend all day if the weather is favorable.
Harold Drew
So so much history and Beautiful Gardens. Spent a half day there.
Tom Belden
Good tour of the Hermitage on a hot and humid day
And there's a winery tasting room
Jeff L
Nice visit. Well organized. House is in beautiful condition. The garden is so peaceful. Good way to spend a couple hours.
epete (epetet)
A nice, if somewhat limited experience. The tours are rather short with a chance to view the restored mansion.
Jessica
This was more enjoyable than expected. The grounds are beautiful. The experience was educational. The tour of the mansion was fun. We had a great time.
Sandy Reagles
Beautiful grounds. All tour guides were knowledgeable. We took the horse drawn wagon and saved a lot of walking!
Justin S
A must visit for anyone in the Nashville area. Similar to many of the Presidential Libraries. Well organized and educational. Feels like going back in time. Peaceful grounds.
Trent Fields
Take the mansion tour. Walk the grounds and take your time. It is a lovely place to visit. The wine was good
Michelle Hohstadt
My family and I spent almost the whole day here. This place really takes you back in time it's beautiful and full of America history. It's worth the extra money to do the horse carriage tour. The kids were a little bored but it was good for them to unplug from their electronics.
Hannah Kim
Cool, informative tour on Andrew Jackson’s mansion and property. Learned lots from his childhood to what’s happened to the mansion after his death.
Jim Thibault
Important historic site. General Jackson is often seen as a war hero, great President but this place does show he was also a slave owner
Chris Synal
Overall clean facilities and amazing grounds. Come for school events hope to one day to take in the whole experience beyond just single events.
Terri Geis
This was an enjoyable part of the vacation. I loved the mansion tour and was enjoying the wagon tour until the only rain cloud in the sky found us.
Nian Liu
Very good museum to visit if you are into history. The Hermitage preserved a lot of original items from Andrew Jackson's time. Guided tour inside is very informative. Also, if you wear blue red and red on presidents day weekend, you can get 20% discount for the admission ticket. Just ask the staff, they will give you the discount when you buy tickets.
Cynthia Chaney
The history is rich here. Almost everything is original. Be prepared to walk a lot. Bring water and enjoy the story!
Angela Pitzer
Always a great experience. Beautifully kept home with such great history. Very knowledgeable staff with so much enthusiasm for the history of this place. I recommend it to anyone visiting the Nashville area.
Angela Helton
Was a very nice place to visit. Lots to see. The Andrew Jackson house was so beautiful.
Joshua Godwin
A really cool place to visit if you are in Nashville, or even just passing through. Andrew Jackson's plantation home and he is buried here as well. Really gorgeous things to see and they have these awesome audio self-tour things that tell you anything and everything you want to know about the grounds and the history there. A must see.
Kyle B.
Excellent story of Andrew Jackson, his wife Rachel, and his adopted children! The Hermitage is one of the classic landmarks of our country's history. Andrew Jackson changed our country's history forever, and this mansion exemplifies his and his families legendary status.
Dana Standifer
Excellent tour and very beautiful. Great guided audible tour and a must see
Aundria D.W. Green
We really enjoyed learning about the history & seeing the artifacts. The grounds were gorgeous. We will definitely visit again. The snack food was a little expensive.
Aimee Wilcox
We took our 8, 6, and 4 year old with us and we enjoyed ourselves very much. The oldest even said it was her favorite part of the weekend. It's a pretty house and there is so much to learn about the Jackson family. I didn't even know about this place until the night before when I did a quick search for what to do with the family. I'm so glad we went. It helped us understand the significance behind all the places with Hermitage and Donelson in their title. The staff was nice and friendly. The Dueling reenactment was awesome. We were there 2 hours and could have spent more time but we were ready for lunch(there is a cafe on sight but we already had plans.) Highly suggest you go to the Hermitage!
Deborah Tracy
The Hermitage is a great place to visit. The weather was beautiful, and great American history.
Christopher Calligan
Well preserved historical site honoring our 7th President. Friendly and knowledgeable guides and clean grounds.
Michelle Cecchini
It is a beautiful acreage inside of Nashville. The flower garden is gorgeous!
Shar Bar
If you love American History and can stand to see how the sausage is made so to speak then you will enjoy this slice of our often tumultuous history.
Roger Trovato
Great visit. Interesting history of a great man of his time.
Christopher Mora
Great way to see a piece of authentic history. The house and its contents are pretty much original. That limits how much you can see and explore in the house. The walk outside to see the other dwellings and where the slaves lived was the most interesting part for me. Would definitely recommend if you are into history or like Andrew Jackson
Tom sizemore
If you love history and are at all interested in the former president and his adventures.
Ravi Kamble
A great way to learn part of American history. The museum is very well done. The grounds were beautiful; my wife and I would've loved to explore more but our young kids started to lose steam after about 90 minutes.
Theresa Q
Don’t miss visiting this American presidents beautiful home, minutes from downtown Nashville. Great for kids, also. Educational and the mansion and museum are air-conditioned. If you are doing a summer vacation, this may be important to you looking for something to do in the area. Great interactive demonstration on the grounds of a “Duel.”
Roxanne Marks
Very interesting and informative. The grounds are beautiful to walk. The staff was great.
Allen Stamps
A interesting time, seemed a little bit pricey. Was in gift shop looking and the employees where talking loudly and complaining about being employed there, that was not a good thing.
Adam Carey
The grounds and the mansion are truly beautiful! The tour is less informative than other historical homes, especially given it was the home of a former president. If you are in the area it is a nice afternoon - but not a destination alone.
cynthia willis
Fabulous home with 90% original furnishings. Great history with period docents.
Flat, but significant walking. There are restrooms at the back of the property (15 minute walk from visitor center), but they were LOCKED! Other bathrooms en route to home were ALSO LOCKED. HUNDREDS of school children descended on visitor center restrooms where only 4 of 5 toilets were functional. Come on...you are collecting hand over fist money with the HUNDREDS of visitors we roamed with. OPEN YOUR GOSH DARN BATHROOMS!! Badly done.
Benjamin benedict
Really cool place. I learned a lot. There is a lot of shade as you stroll around the Hermitage, there is also a lot of hot sun. Bring water and a hat.
Cynthia Gonzalez
Great audio tour included in admission. Love the wagon tour as well. The Hermitage is full of history. Recommend to take the wagon tour to get full experience. I would plan to spend at least 3 hrs. Lots of walking so be prepared.
Mrs. Harris
Beautiful land and mansion!
Vanessa Fuchs
If you love history, this is a must! I learned so much today. You can tour the mansion and grounds, shop, eat and do wine tasting. Plan on around 3- 4 hours to experience most everything.
Mickey Duke
So interesting. A great place to visit, especially if you love American history.
Anita Kupka
Lovely house and grounds. You have the fkexibilty to walk the grounds as you wish. Phones are provided to hear the history at certain points of the your.
Jace Troup
This was a great way to spend about 3 hours. Took my father here for Father's Day, and he had such a good time. I would also recommend taking the horse drawn wagon ride which take you around other parts of the Hermitage.
Cayla Hensley
While visiting Nashville, my husband and I wanted to make sure we toured some historic sites. The Andrew Jackson Hermitage is definitely one that we enjoyed seeing and learning about the history. We toured the mansion and then were able to walk around the rest of the grounds. We would definitely recommend anyone looking to learn more about Andrew Jackson and some of the history that took place here to visit.
Richard Stewart
Awesome
Spent 5 hours plus
Did the house tour.... Kathy was great
Walked the grounds... So peaceful
Had some food in the cafe.... Staff were polite
Bookstore.... Woman could not have been more helpful
Found a bench on the property and read for an hour
A must do while in Nashville
Kathryn Zinsmeister
Very interesting piece of history.
Tammy A. Mulcahy
Amazing place to learn about the life and times of Andrew Jackson. Beautiful gardens, original furniture to the mansion, and wonderful guides. Cannot take pictures of the inside of the mansion. Enjoyed the Dueling History: An Affair of Honor.
matthew cline
This is a must see when visiting the Nashville area. You start by watching a video of the life of Andrew Jackson who preferred the be called general Jackson . Then you toured the museum lots of artifacts from the time . Be sure to pick a nice day to go walking the grounds . The mansion and grounds are well maintained . We walked around the entire area lots of historic cabins . It was early spring when we were there the garden hadn't started to bloom yet .
Only the mansion is guided everything else is self guided the have audio guides available. Plenty of free parking .
Charles Kurtz
Well done with home, grounds, and museum. Groups touring the home need to be smaller so you can look in rooms and see the artifacts. Tour guides are great, and the museum exhibts tied in well and supported the 4th grade American history we have been studying.
James Dowd
Perhaps my favorite presidential house tour. Good exhibits and a lot of information about a very important American president in a park like setting
Nancy Glaser
No food in cafeteria. Needed to by snacks at gift shop to eat
The museum part itself was great
Whitnye Hale
Neat place to visit! Lots of history to see and learn from. I brought my baby in her stroller and not every place was stroller accessible, other than that, it was great!
Sheryl Phillips
We love history! We learned such about Andrew Jackson and it was not all good but they tell you all
Diane Zagorski
The tour guides were great. They were knowledgeable and thorough. The mansion was great to see. The tour went fast - they didn’t leave time to really see the rooms. You have to stay on the carpet (which is fine to protect the house) and the plexiglass is in the doorways so only one person can see in a room at a time. 12 people per tour - so the guide would explain 2-4 rooms at once and then move on. If you are trying to see the room you miss the tour comments. Or to listen to the tour you only have 2 seconds to see the rooms. Otherwise it was informative. The grounds seemed to be neglected. So many weeds and dead plants in the gardens. Seems like there is very little care (if any) or attention to keeping the gardens looking good. Seems overgrown by weeds. Very frustrated that we arrived 10 minutes before our tour at 12:15. We stood in line. The attendant told us we weren’t allowed to be in line until 12:15. At first not a big deal. But then found out at 12:15 that we couldn’t go in. We were advised our ticket time is to get in line, not to actually tour. So we ended up waiting for over 30 minutes (not including the first 10 minutes). So 40 minutes for a 30 minute tour. The ticket counter could have advised us. That didn’t make any sense. Overall not a big deal, but was of putting as we could have explored elsewhere in that time. Video in the museum was very well done. Overall great experience - glad we went. But wouldn’t see a second time. Similar to Mount Vernon, just on a much smaller scale.
Miguel Saldaña
This is more for adults than for kids. If you like historical museums that is exactly what you get at this place.
Leigh Anne Mullins
It was neat to see the house, but the tour was a bit disappointing. The wagon rid was amazing. Our guide, Mark, was very friendly and knowledgeable! Make sure you add the wagon ride on to your tour as it was the highlight of the trip!!
Jan Trimble
This was a very interesting place to visit to learn more about our history of the people and buildings of the south. I advise taking the tour so you can see and hear about the happenings surrounding the culture of that time period. A must see if visiting the Nashville area.
Megan Murphy
I didn't know a lot about Andrew Jackson prior to visiting the Hermitage, and I sort of wish that the mansion tour had gone into more detail about his political career and presidency. That said, we still enjoyed it, as well as going into the garden and seeing where he and his wife + descendants are buried.
fletcher cross
I could spend all day walking the grounds. The garden is perfect for having talks of betrayal (South Park). I highly recommend it to anyone. Even if you’re not a fan of Andy Jack, you will still enjoy this place. The landscape is gorgeous.
Kathy Cunningham
Wonderful tour to walk in the very steps a Andrew Jackson famous for balancing our nation's debt
Jake Hensley
It was a very informative tour and an amazing piece of American history.
Jennifer Avey
I had no idea the place was so huge... you could easily spend a whole day there touring the grounds. Be advised-- there is a lot of walking, even just to get to the house from the visitor's center. You also can't take photos inside the house itself because everything is so wonderfully preserved.
William Verigan
I have been to several dozen presidential homes. But the Hermitage definitely ranks among the top five--right there with Mount Vernon and Monticello. It is a gem in a time capsule with original furniture, even newspapers abd wall paper. The grounds, including homes of slaves and original settler, a myriad of flowers and the grave of Jackson and his beloved Rachael and a favored former slave are amazing. The day I went an 1867.style baseball game was underway and a costumed volunteer was playing a difficult game with visitors. The horse wagon that carries visitors adds to the atmosphere. And then there is a large and spectacular museum that details Jackson's life. Do not miss it.
D Hentges
The place is lovely however herding us like cattle and being forced to stand in long lines unacceptable. A simple reservation time with each ticket purchase would fix this problem. Maybe they should adopt Mount Vernon's policy; that museum has to down perfect. The cost is a bit high, two seniors $38 and we had to wait in line in the sun for one hour.
Victoria King
Great historic place. Nice, friendly stuff. Love it a lot!
Lee Coken
It's history regarding a past President. What's not to like. Arrive early and walk the grounds while waiting for your tour
Tracy Szantyr
Great history here check out the winery afterwards!
S Sovereen
Great place for history! Wonderful walking tour. Lots of walking
G Santana
Education place to know more about the president, nice home and farm, should bring you're picnic bucket.
Gene Monse
A great place to visit with lots of historic values.
Yinghua W
Typical presidential house vibe with exhibits, group tour to the mansion, live show of “dual” on the lawn, slave house, and graves. We came while in Nashville bc we had visited many before. One hour after we were there, my 13 y-o whispered to my ear: there wasn’t any other non-white guests in the entire site.
Parker Magoo
Very cool place to visit. We got there a bit late, but the gift shop was open and the Staff was extremely courteous and helpful. Plan on getting there by 2:30 to have enough time to explore the grounds.
Sandy Lydick
Everything was beautiful. It was interesting.
Chelsea Jordan
Cool place! I’m a history teacher and all my teacher friends recommended the Hermitage when I said I’d be driving through Nashville. It’s a beautiful place and everything is really nice. They definitely gloss over the Indian Removal Act and make it sound like his interactions with slaves were great, but it’s the bias you’d expect. It downpoured today and we got soaking wet but it was lovely and I’m glad we spent the morning here. I’m definitely inspired to do more research about the Jacksons!
W David Stevenson
Went for GLOW, pumpkin festival. Was a great time. Stop at the food truck before for an adult beverage and enjoy. The art work was incredible.
Kristopher Michael
What a great job keeping a historical landmark intact! I learned a lot more than I expected and the staff were very knowledgeable. Also the short film they put together was very well done. Keep up the good work!
Teresa Patterson
Wish we had more time here, but we still learned a lot about Andrew Jackson
Tyson Porter
What a great experience. The staff was knowledgeable, the history was rich, and the property was astonishing. A must see if you’re in Nashville.
Blake Baker
I really enjoy visiting the estates of the early presidents. More than just a mansion, these old estates functioned like small villages with quarters for the different tradesman (often slaves) that were necessary to be self sufficient.
James Massey
Such a historical place, that you’ll enjoy! The docents are knowledgeable and so personal. I really encourage you to include this in your plans for Nashville!
Ndstorment
My husband and I really enjoyed this. It was really fun to learn about Andrew Jackson, and his family and life. We enjoyed going through the house he and his wife lived in. There is a $20 bill with a hole where Andrew Jackson's face goes, so you can take a really cool picture there. We didn't try the cafe, but I would definitely eat there. The gift shop was fun. My husband got a t-shirt there.
Angela E.
The grounds are beautiful and the staff is friendly and helpful. Great opportunity to learn about Jackson. Booked online and we’re able to walk grounds before the tour.
LeeAnn Rolloff
The only reason for a 4 is I had paid for the president package but when we got inside they gave us the audio package for the lesser one. They did provide me with a refund. Every associate we met was very nice and informative
George Sykora
Andrew Jackson's homesite right in the middle of Nashville. Disappointing they don't let you take any pictures inside the mansion. The grounda are beautiful
Heather Petersen
Excellent look into the life of our 7th president!
A. Spytek
It seems wrong I can't rate this a 7/5 since he was the 7th president. Absolutely mind-blowing each time I take the tour, there's always something new to learn.
Derra Santos
If you're into history, the VIP tour is well worth the money! The tour guide was very knowledgeable and kept things interesting the whole way. The length of the guided portion of the tour is perfect. It was nice to walk around and see more even after it was over. The free wine tasting is icing on the cake!
Kimber C
Loved the wagon ride. Very hot that day, but our guide had the gentlest demeanor with us and the horses! The house tour was good, but rushed. Very hard to get a good look at the amazing things they were telling us about because we were shuffled onto the next area. The actual museum was on the smaller side, but well done and the welcome video was definitely enjoyable. (And you've really got to visit the winery and try the naughty tea😉)
Shaun Richards
A really nice living history museum. The folks who toured the place were friendly and knowledgable.
Noel Lewis
Stopped here near end of the day, house and ground interesting and the setting takes you back in time. Home is reportedly the best, most original presidential home, many original furnishings. Educational experience worth checking out.
Carole Albyn
I learned a lot about Andrew Jackson and his presidency. If you are a mature adult, and love history, this is a nice place to spend a few hours. If you are a child, I am not sure if it will work for you. This will be museum hell for most children.
Restaurant: The restaurant cashier refused to check on ingredients for an alergy ingredient which was disappointing, so I was limited to ordering a dry salad upon her recommendation. Oddly enough, the same song kept playing over and over. Strange no one thought to play a variety of songs as I was very tired of listening to it after the third or fourth time. I wish that they had period food, especially anything that was Andrew Jackson's favorite.
I enjoyed ambling around the property. It was quiet and peaceful. The house is currently undergoing sprinkler system upgrades, so the bottom level is pretty much corrdand off (2018).
RICK HEIL
Beautiful garden and well kept. Also very informative regarding his time as president.
Sierra Davis
Tour was okay. It was a beautiful walk. They take nice care of the grounds.
Tom K
Exceeded my expectations. I brought my five-year-old and he was complaining before we arrived so I was expecting constant whining but it was interactive and tangible enough that it drew him in. He especially enjoyed the wagon ride around the property and the duel. They have very knowledgeable staff throughout the tour that were able to answer a variety of questions. Really interesting for a small child AND an adult. The one deficiency was that the entire site avoids race relations at all costs, which gives a skewed view of General Jackson's legacy. They are forced to discuss African Americans since it was a plantation but they ignore Jackson's involvement with native Americans.
Joyce Losby
Great peek into our past history! If you want to see the whole property there's lots of walking or take the wagon ride.
John C
Great learning experience. We ready to walk! Huge home with lots of acres to walk around.
Starr Baize
Wonderful site. Staff and interpreters were wonderful and very helpful! Just beautiful gardens
Joshua Smith
Gives a great view into the life of Andrew Jackson. Shows a very detailed map of his life and how he lived we will be going back each tour guide give their own tour. Well worth a tour with any of them they are all knowledgeable of the property.
Duane Edwards
Very beautiful and informative. I'm looking forward to going back soon. I found out so much I never knew about President Jackson. He was quite a man.
Steve Madson
The mansion tour was sold out for the day but our self guided tour around the grounds was very nice. The film in the visitors center was informative and well done. We'll be back
Jon
A must visit when you are planning a trip to Nashville. Learn the history of The Hermitage as well as Andrew Jackson. The mansion is gorgeous and they are very strict since most of the structure is original. Make sure to visit the grounds as well as the Jackson cemetery. Afterwards, head to Natchez Hills Winery for some sweet tea wine.
Amanda Sorrelle
They have a sound box you can listen to so you get get the full history of where you are. We had an amazing time. The house was awesome.
Brent Sutterfield
You could spend All day here or a few hours. So much history this place is incredible and very interesting. Great for history buffs or the average person.
Mark Edwards
Very modest museum area. Then walked the grounds before touring the house. Not allowed to take interior mansion pictures. Most furnishings are original.
Bob McCall
Great history and sights. Don't stop just with the house tour, take the grounds tour in a horse-drawn carriage.
Kris Kasprzak
A very Historic Landmark. Definitely place you want to see
David Lipe
Grounds were nice, house is beautiful, tour guides were informative, movie and visitor center were educational.
Grace Adylynn
Staff is great and informative. The grounds are well-kept, and we enjoyed waking through the mansion. There wasn't enough space for everyone to see the rooms during the guided tour though.
Brenda Morris
Very interesting place to visit. So glad the history has been preserved.
Tracie Walden
We loved our visit to this historic landmark! The museum was well done with only one exception. There could have been more seating in the presidential theater.
Joel Janes
Loved our tour of the mansion and of the grounds. Only part that was a negative was the fact that our group was rushed through, but I understand it is to get everyone through in a timely manner. The hosts and guide did a wonderful job and definitely were not boring. Great history lesson!
Philip LeDonne
Very well preserved historical site with knowledgeable guides and interesting sights throughout.
Stan Kaszok
Really enjoyed my time. I did the audio download. Really helped with items to see. Only one thing. I would liked to see a person that may ask questions. Is the Andrew Jackson foundation trying to save the statue the fools of Richmond are wanting to melt.?
M Lewis
We had great time touring the mansion and the grounds. Very friendly staff!
Belinda Carruth
We thoroughly enjoyed our tour with Kevin as our guide. He brought the history to life. Kevin took questions and pictures! I feel like I want to know even more about Andrew Jackson and the times he lived in. Thank you very much!
Tim Ross
Great restoration and tour. Wife even picked cotton. Good history lesson.
Andy Chandler
Very pleasant day and the folks there really had a passion for the place
Doug B.
Excellent for history fans and anybody looking for a relaxing and educational experience. Awesome tour guides.
Kathryn Robertson
I didn't know a whole lot about Andrew Jackson prior to the tour. The tour guides are very knowledgeable and dressed in period clothing.I was a bit disappointed that there really wasn't much interaction with the mansion rooms. All but the hallways and stairs were sealed off with plexiglass. the tour took about 45 minutes and most of it was the tour guide talking about the different artifacts that were displayed behind the plexiglass. I expected a bit more for the $25 per person admission fee.
Yanet Munoz
Worth a visit, lots of good historical info. Small groups, and beautiful garden!
The Laguna Chef
I highly respect Andrew Jackson and was excited to visit his home. It did not disappoint! A cool look into how "the people's president" lived for the majority of his life. Gorgeous grounds and great tour guides along with a great audio tour rounded out my experience. Five stars!
Helen L
Took the Footsteps Tour. Was a nice time if you like history.
Roger Hardway
It was a fascinating place to learn some history about a president and a time we were not overly familiar with.
J D (Aisle Seat)
Great historic site. Very organized tour.
David Edgington
Absolutely beautiful piece of history! Take your time and plan on spending several hours.
Jim DeRonck
Great place to learn about one of our greatest Presidents. The introductory film was a bit too negative but you gotta appease the woke lunatics I guess. The tour guides are super friendly and knowledgeable. The grounds and mansion are kept up beautifully. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Nashville
S. B.
Very enlightening visit, it was a vivid reminder that as humans we are All very complex!
Matthew Doyle
This was an interesting tour, but I would have to argue that the price of admission $24 per adult hardly equaled out to the 30 minute guided tour of the mansion. The mix of guides giving the background of each room was nice and I appreciated that they dressed in the garb of the era, but beyond giving their rehearsed lines they weren't able to give much insight beyond it. All of the staff throughout the complex were incredibly friendly. The house was well preserved and with everything placed behind plexiglass for viewing I imagine it'll stay that way for decades to come. I was disappointed that NO photos were allowed whatsoever. Compared to the experience of Jefferson's Monticello and Washington's Mount Vernon, this was a bit of a let down.
Josh Pagano
Beautiful place. Fascinating history. Presented well
Christine Lawrence
It was nice to see, but very crowded. I felt rushed when touring the home after standing in a 45 minute line (where we were rained on). The had a nice audio tour with a special audio tour for kids.
Drew Siebert
My family and I had a great time. Explored the grounds and paid for a tour of the main mansion. I would recommend it for all! Add some flare to social studies.
Paul Walaszek
An opportunity to learn more about our history. We must not just our past by today's standards. Andrew Jackson was a good man.
Warren Askew
Guides we knowledgeable and we certainly learned a few things about the 7th US President.
Terrance Ray Trybus
A must see when you visit Nashville. Too much to cover in a review.
Norman Zurn
Great getting to know more about former President Andrew Jackson. Very impressive experience.
Patty Poplarchick
Beautiful historic home of President Andrew Jackson. The home is perfectly preserved and the tour, and the grounds are enjoyable. The museum is nice as well.
Lori Salyer
The Mansion Tour was nice, except when one of the tour guides, Seth, was extremely rude. Grounds are beautiful and all other tour guides were wonderful. Seth, you should be more respectful with how you speak to adults, especially those older than you. You could have asked me in a much nicer way not to take 1 drink from my water bottle, as it was hot & stuffy inside the mansion.
Dave Schurman
Very friendly and informative staff. Great bit of history if you're into that.
Dusty Knight
Great experience at the Hermitage! This museum is really well-run, and I would gladly recommend taking a few hours to enjoy the entire property. The house tour was good, the grounds were very informative and well-kept, and there were several avenues to take in history here. We were very positively impressed with our experience here!
Wanda B (Lady Lawyer)
I visited Tulip Grove during the first days of July 2018. With great sadness, I saw a great deal of rot and deterioration taking place. Unless the repairs are made soon, I fear the home will become irreparable. Since the President Andrew Jackson Foundation owns the property, I am surprised that more attention is not being given to the home. What sadness to see such a historical place go to waste.
Mara Porter
Great place! The grounds are a great place to walk, the mansion tour is well paced, and the other cabins are fun to explore. Would recommend!!
Kyle Davis
Great spot to visit as far as history. We brought our dog, but be mindful, most exhibits are off limits if you have a dog with you - didn’t know that before we bought the tickets. The property is well maintained and looks great. Only issue one might run into, if you are allergic to bees, they tend to make nests near the cabins on the property. Anytime we went close, we were quickly reminded that this was their territory.
Warren Knaust
Nice, unhurried, and informative tour. After seeing the Mansion, take the time to do the audio self guided tour of the grounds. It doesn't take a long time and is well worth it.
J Foley
More well kept than other plantation presidential sites. Long walking trail with many exhibits.
Patty D
As authentic as it can be without it being a working plantation. Tells of a bit of history....the good and not so good.
Georgia Perkins
Took a tour through the Andrew Jackson Mansion and really enjoyed it. Lots of history here. Gardens and all of the surrounding sights are just wonderful. So glad I could go here. One of the things I wanted to see on my Bucket List!
Richard Lango
Great story and not sugar coated. Seeing something this old in such great shape was extraordinary. Guides are knowledgeable and personable. There is so much to see!
Phil
What a beautiful piece of history. Only knocked this down a star because they don't really gear anything towards kids. Mine where bored, I was fascinated. Great spot to see our history.
Michelle Jones
I went with my daughters school. I liked the openness of the tour and the audio walk through. The mansion tour was the best part, and the tour guide we had really cared about what she was telling you.
Peter Hass
So interesting. Staff can answer any questions even remotely connected to the history surrounding this cool place and people
Craig Boisseau
Learned tons about Jackson's property, seems like they didn't say much about his time as President
Erin Archer
I'm not one for museums, but the audio tour was educational and easy to use! Beautiful piece of American History!!
Jon Jon Giang
