Reviews of Hennepin History Museum
Something of a hidden gem in the Twin Cities- not only tells the stories of the past, but shows their relevance to the community today and invites community members to take part in important conversations. I highly recommend visiting, places like this are invaluable!
After living in Hennepin county for 6 years it is great learning about the history of this wonderful county. Thank you for a wonderful dive into Hennepin county. I learned quite a lot!
I came here for a friend's wedding, and it was wonderful! I loved the whole atmosphere of the building in general being used as a wedding venue, and we even had a scavenger hunt (put together by the host) that lead us around the museum. So fun! I want to go back with my husband and maybe some friends to spend even more time here. What a great museum to learn about local history!
Heard an interesting talk on beaded Bandolier bags; didn't get to view the exhibit s. My husband can't walk the stairs, there's no elevator. Not complaining, I understand it's a very old building. The staff was very courteous and helpful.
I brought my Meetup group to see the very important Owning Up exhibit that traces racism and housing discrimination in Minneapolis. The staff arranged for a discussion with the curators of the exhibit that for my group added to our knowledge of this situation that still continues today.
There are several other exhibits to see such as the fascinating historical photographs that Strib photographer assembled.
The Hennepin History Museum has come a long way in the last few years, I am impressed with the changes and new programs. It may be a small museum, but the exhibits are interesting and well thought out. The staff is great and went out of their way to make my groups visit enjoyable for everyone.
Admission is very reasonable, only $5.00 for adults, seniors (65 and over) is $3.00. Members are free.
The one thing to be aware of, is that the building and museum is not handicap accessible and requires climbing stairs to the upper galleries. I strongly recommend this museum.
This is a fascinating, but virtually unknown Museum, just 1/2 block from the MIA. The exhibitions and programming are done with flair and imagination. The Collection is amazing: The Staff is outgoing and helpful. I stumbled across the Museum from an article in the Star Tribune, and am hopeful that others will discover this " Hidden Gem"
What a gem! I didn't even know this was there, right by the MIA. The mansion it is housed in is beautiful and the story about it is interesting. The museum is well-done and the staff is incredible. We even got to peek behind the scenes, as they were photographing and cataloguing museum artifacts when we were there.
Free first Thursdays! Great little museum with just the right amount of stuff to fill up your brain without overstuffing you noggin. Look out for the open categorization room. You get a cool behind the scenes look into their work.
Free admittance w library card thru SmartPass. Very small. They have one area where they talk about Everyday People and their struggles which is nice to see but they only represent a certain group, I think they could have expanded that it would have been a much better exhibit
This is a different kind of local history museum with the personality and character of an old home but changing exhibits on a wide range of historical and ethnic topics. Many special events. Can be visited again and again. I have been involved with them for decades.
So enjoy the exhibits at the museum, from the amazing human stories, the unique Minnesota inventions to the rich history of the Minneapolis Aquatennial!
The staff members and volunteers at the museum are amazing!
Small, for a museum, but chock full of nifty and interesting objects, even if you're not from Hennepin County, MN. The library's research materials, aided by helpful and friendly staff, are quite useful.
A block away from the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, so you can do both without moving your car!
Enjoyable book talk with author and Vietnam vet Steve Atkinson. The humans of Minneapolis exhibit was excellent. This mansion-turned-museum is a gem.
Great museum and great staff. Very interesting displays. If you like big wheel bicycles you should definitely stop in...
Great place to learn the history of the area cool looking exhibits friendly tour guides friendly at the missions nice city to visit
Susan B Anthony's birthday party was a blast!! Very well done, and I learned a lot.
Not much to see in this museum but worth the little bit there was. Glad I didn't have to pay to tour it
I think everyone should go to this. It remarkable what they did back 4000 years ago. Even to learn about other cultures in history. I could spend all day hear.
It's so beautiful

It's a small collection, but well curated and displayed.

Great history museum. Very informative!
Great building....but confused as to what is art and just common stuff.
Great place although to be a musium member is pricey
It is very small and the $8.0 fee feels a bit steep.
Placed in an historic mansion, 5 dollars is a great deal.
Loved the Iraqi Collaborative.
