Reviews of The Getty
Henrik
Great museum with lot of amazing paintings from internationally renowned artists. The drive up the hill with the small „train“ is great fun, entry is free but good luck getting there without a car (parking available for a considerable fee). Narrow parking spaces underground.
It’s a great place to just walk around and let your mind wander, beautiful views over LA as well.
Eoin Murphy
Fun little tram ride up to the entrance of the Museum.
It was very interesting seeing all the historical art inside, and the staff were very friendly.
The outdoor areas were beautiful and had fantastic views into Los Angeles.
All of this for the fantastic price of $0. Would highly recommend, even for those who just want to go for the views.
Ric Wallace
Everything about The Getty has an amazing open and expansive feel. The architecture alone will blow you away, and I must say, the blend of art and architecture as you enter the facility is sublime. It has a definite west coast feel for me. The sheer size and vastness of the spaces are very artfully revealed only slowly, as there is only one route of entry. I don’t want to spoil it though, so eyes up when you enter!
The Garden is a living work of art. My feelings for just how cool that space is would fill far more than a Google review!
Plan for at least two days visit if you’re deeply into art. The collection is huge. 4 very large exhibition buildings.
Follow the guideline for free tickets. You need to make a reservation for parking, as it’s a limited space parking area. You park in a garage and ride a train to the top of the hill and the entrance to the facility. It seemed handicap friendly everywhere.
The spaces are all very roomy and open. It was quite busy but I never felt crowded.

The museum is really pretty!
They got some good exhibition, but what is more breathtaking is the view of LA, their garden, and the glow of the California sun on the building. Would highly recommend to walk around and explore all the different corners as each turn gives you some pleasant surprise!
Remember to book the ticket in advance, even though the entrance is all free!
Luisa
The Getty is one of the prettiest museums I’ve ever been to! The entrance is FREE but you do have to register online due to covid. Parking is $20 per vehicle but entrance per person is free. It is definitely worth it and the views are amazing! Their gardens are beautiful and the museums architecture is amazing! There is also these green areas were people just go and sit there to read a book or picnic! I could have stayed here the whole day! I went on a Friday early afternoon and there wasn’t a lot of people. So it was nice to enjoy it!
Amin
Great art collection; quoting my artist friends. Beautiful space and architecture. Has gorgeous scenic views of LA. Beautiful outdoor gardens. Helpful staff despite too many visitors. Great place for families. You need to take a tram to reach the main building. The admission is free but reservation ahead of time is recommended.
Joe Vraneza
Amazing place in too many ways to list... excellent use of space, unbelievable setting and views... from the perfect gardens to the unbelievable collection of artwork this is an LA must do.
Buy or rather reserve your tickets for the date and time you want to go... little to no wait getting into the tram area... trams leave every few minutes and take you straight to the top of the hill and the entrance to the museum itself... you just gotta pay for parking.
Moon Jung Lee
So much to do and so much to see! It is hands down the BEST art museum in LA and it’s free! (Reservations required and you pay for parking!)
Overall, you spend the entire day here! There’s art, coffee, food, and the view. But you’ll most likely spend hours just looking at the art. There is a massive collection at the Getty.
In addition, there is a garden that is worth visiting! Feel free to bring your picnic blankets and soak in the sun! There are plenty of spots at the Getty for you to enjoy the view and the sun!
I highly recommend this place! If you are choosing between the Getty Center and the Getty Villa, I recommend the Center! The Villa is great too, but the center is way more memorable! ☺️

The architecture of this building is gorgeous and the gardens are stunning. There are coffee shops here or you could do a little picnic on the garden. The entrance to the museum is free but you will have to reserve tickets online. Parking for the day is $15. There are busses that will take you from the entrance after security checks to the exhibition halls or you could also take a nice slow walk up the slope. The museum has lovely collection. You can spend the whole day here wondering through the collections and reading through his biography, grab a nice sandwich and coffee and just enjoy the garden.
Maxwell Lent
This museum is truly an incredible place to visit. Honestly some of the exhibits were closed for maintenance or something but the architecture and views are really what is worth your time. Wandering around the gardens is fantastic and the tram to the museum from parking is really lovely. Definitely worth it. But also reserve your entry time. Tickets are free but you need to reserve entry time and have proof of vaccination.

I recently visited “free entrance but parking $20” and was truly impressed by the variety and quality of the exhibits. The historical exhibits provided a fascinating glimpse into the past, and I learned a great deal about the area's cultural and social history. The art exhibits were equally impressive, featuring a diverse range of styles and mediums. The furniture exhibit was also great, showcasing beautiful and unique pieces of furniture from different eras.
The highlight of my visit, however, was the museum's garden. It was beautifully landscaped and provided a peaceful oasis in the middle of the city. The garden was also an extension of the exhibits, showcasing different plants and flowers that were relevant to the historical and cultural themes of the exhibits.
The facilities were clean and well-maintained, adding to the overall pleasant experience.
Overall, I would highly recommend a visit but reserving a ticket before. It's the perfect destination for anyone interested in history, art, furniture and gardens. It was a great way to spend a day and i enjoyed every bit of it. I will definitely be returning for another visit soon.

One of my favourite things to do in L.A.! Every aspect of The Getty is just fantastic. It's $20 per vehicle at the parking lot and that includes the tram ride up to the center (which is a scenic ride itself). Plenty of great exhibits but the highlights for me are the stunning architecture and wonderful gardens. Every single detail of each garden area is so well thought out and carefully planned. Feels so peaceful, even when it's busy. Great views over the hills and suburbs. Even the gardens at the bottom tram station are lovely. Multiple restrooms available and there's a café too.
The last trams down get busy, so if you're not so good with walking, get to the tram station with plenty of time before the last one.

One of the most beautiful buildings I’ve ever been to. The architecture is amazing and all the surrounding gardens are breathtaking. The view from the outdoor areas was spectacular. You can see all the way to downtown LA and to the ocean. They had a lot of great art to see as well as ancient artifacts from around the world.
Doug Steckman
Always a serene environment. I think I'd go there even if there was no art. The design of the buildings and the gardens is spectacular. There is so much to see here that each visit I make seems like a first visit. This time I took the garden tour and was again impressed by the beauty and thoughtfulness of its design.
David Lopez
Great art museum. The multiple pavilions offer great views of Los Angeles and hold some fantastic art pieces. Great place to spend an afternoon and can even hang out in the garden or in the patio area with a coffee under the shade. The rail cart was very calm and had little wait time. Will definitely come back and keep an eye on the visiting pieces!
David Israwi
Such a beautiful place, from the art collections to the buildings and gardens. We visited during a Mayan exhibition, displaying one of the only few Mayan scripts.
The gardens were the most beautiful part for us - we could have been there for much longer walking around the exhibitions and taking breaks around the gardens.
The rail to get up there was also a great part of the experience. The Getty is a must visit for anyone visiting the city of LA.
Looking forward to our next visit.
Erivan
There are few places in the world that have collections as impressive, matching up to the mix of ancient and modern. Tours of the Getty Center's architecture and gardens are available, as well as a Collection Highlights tour and tours of art in specific eras. Tour times and days vary depending on tour type. Upon arrival, you will board a tram that ascends the hill to the museum grounds. Best of all, entry to the museum is free (but will need to pay for parking if driving).
Kira
What a beautiful place to see art for free. The only con is it’s hard to get to if you’re a tourist. Take an Uber if you don’t know the area as the parking is hard to find.
The tram up to the Getty was very peaceful.
I enjoyed the galleries and the cafe. However, none of the cafe items are priced and I must say, they are very expensive at the till. If you go, make sure you go onto the second floor and rooftops of the galleries. The rooftops have incredible views.
Muge BN
Interesting museum with lot of great paintings. The tram is great fun and around 4 minutes, but if you want you can walk to the hill. The entry is free but parking starts from 10 dollars to 20 dollars.
It’s a great place that have beautiful views over LA.
Ash
Beautiful museum with gorgeous views of the city. A must-see for tourists and Angelenos alike. Currently they are still doing timed-ticketed entry— so, you’ll need to get free tickets online ahead of your visit. The current cafeteria setup for lunch is very underwhelming— if you don’t spend the big bucks on sit down restaurant, I definitely recommend packing a lunch. The garden is in bloom now for spring, and definitely worth a walk through.
Robyn P
Fun museum with lots of interesting art to see. Definitely would avoid a weekend, especially in the summer, as it can get crowded and no one wants to wear a mask, even though it's required inside the tram.
Bring your own lunch and have a picnic outside on a nice day because the cost of food is quite high (and when I went, the lines were long and service was slow).
Jen Bayarena
The Getty is always a good time. There are so many pretty and interesting things to look at. The museum is free, parking is not. Tram ride up the hill is fun. The view from the balcony is always nice, even on smoggy or cloudy days. It's nice to take the guided tours (either with headphones or a museum docent), but it's also great to wander around aimlessly (my preferred method). There's so much to see inside and then even more to see out in the gardens. Lunch can be pretty expensive but super romantic when you throw in a mini bottle of champagne while you sit surrounded by all the lush greenery. Very relaxing.
Parijat Roy
This is a great place to go with your family. There is no entry fee but you will have to get an appointment beforehand. On the way up they have tram and bus option. The bus option is quicker than tram as it can save you 20mins. It helps if you have got less time. Overall the museum is a great place to go in with lots of stuff covering the European history. The arts and books are really in a great shape.
Angela Y.
Admission for The Getty is free, you need to reserve online for a time slot prior to your visit (they have someone checking your reservation). There is a $20 parking fee per car & remember to take your stub with you so you can pay at the machine near the parking lot elevators before heading to your car. We visited on 7/7/22 & masks were mandated for everyone on the tram ride but if you don't have one they can provide you with one. We took our kids (12 & 10) to visit The Getty Center for the first time and they really enjoyed walking around, they weren't too interested in the art paintings but they really enjoyed the stunning architectures and well maintained grounds. A must visit for out of towners, we had a great time!
Rutger 'Rudgr' Geerling (Rudgrcom)
Was amazed by the place. Besides the beautiful buildings and incredible garden the art is shown in a way that is rarely seen. The focus is completely on quality over quantity. Decorations of some of the rooms are beyond anything else.
My favorite thing is that most paintings on display have been restored so they look like they were made yesterday. It really shows the actual beauty and quality of the pieces.
I absolutely love this place and it's free as well, except for parking.
Damon Tighe
Amazing to have such a wonderful place easily open to the public. Architecture is amazing and sits upon such a view of the Pacific to make anyone jealous.
The collections, mainly of a European focus, are good. Rembrandt and Monet draw the crowds, but there are other gems here too.
really appreciated the gardenia air fresheners on the mens bathroom as someone in there was making sea lion noises in the stall
Mykolas Masiukas
Loved the museum and the gardens. Very good app if you want a self-guided tour. Lots of classic and contemporary art so many people will find something that they like. Beautiful panoramic vistas from the balconies and terraces.
Entrance is free, but parking is not. So share a ride if you want to save money. Train ride to the gallery from parking takes just a few minutes and it goes often enough so the wait times are not too bad.
We have spent 2 hours but I'd say it's not enough, especially if you'd like to read about the exhibits and not just to rush to get to the end.
K Winters
Had heard of but never had chance to visit. Killing time while kids at event provided the opportunity.
Tickets are purchased online.
Parking $20 is underground, bag check, tram ride to location requires a mask, and walk through at your leisure is with or without a mask.
Very museum like setup with placards for exhibits.
Variety of tastes and mediums, on various levels.
A thoughtful arrangement based up focus of the pieces.
It does get cold up there though, so despite the temperature you're generally experiencing, take a light covering for the top of the hill location. I didn't know to, and it distracts from the experience when you're shivering...
I liked the statues and paintings the most. The neoclassical and more modern styles aren't my taste but I can see why they are important, based upon how they were presented.
The painting shared here spoke to me, but I am a protector, so why wouldn't it. 😉
Only disappointment was while at the museum was... the numerous people who just stepped in front of me as if I wasn't there and blocked items from other's view while they examined it.
That's a "poor manners" and "sad current state of society" issue though, not a Getty issue.
Water features near coffee carts are nice and a cafe keep you from starving, but like all else in LA, it's pricey. But because it's a way they contribute to their foundation, it's tolerable.
My visit got cut short by an emergency so I missed out on the entire experience. I would literally make a day of it, it's much larger than I anticipated and if you appreciate art, you'll want the time to wander comfortably.
Stay safe and rise above the rudeness you may encounter in the world.
Melech Fogel
Surpassed my expectations in every way. It is technically free to enter, but it cost $20 to park. Right after you drop your car you take the free tram up the mountain side and are welcomed by spectacular views and architecture. You enter the museum to incredibly curated exhibits from every time period. Of course the Monet and Van Gogh are there, but everything was beautiful. After you finish looking at the art, be sure to stop at the Cafe for a bottle of wine to enjoy one of the best spots for a sunset in Los Angeles.
Hedieh YS
From the gardens to the architecture, the views, the exhibits.. you don't want to miss the Getty. We spent about 2 hours there and feel like we could have done another hour easily.
Reservation are recommended. The fee is for parking. Tram takes you up to the building and grounds.
Raphaël Baena
Great Museum placed in an extraordinary location.
You’ll have the best view over Los Angeles.
The architecture is very fancy and the garden is pretty. You’ll take time to visit everything.
Museum includes a lot of different sections which are fun to visit.
There is also a restaurant with a great view.
Arpita Biswas
Free entry. We took the tram while going up which is a free ride and while returning from the museum we walked down the lane on the left. You can get amazing views. The cactus 🌵 garden is very well maintained. Lovely place to explore. Perfect for full day outings. Carry some food and water. Excellent outdoors and green park for spending quality time under the sun. Explore the richness of the history. Sooooo much to see in one place! It's mind-blowing. Very well maintained and friendly staffs. Enjoy the day with your kids and family.
Lis Malmgren
Overall I enjoyed the Getty Villa more, this museum didn’t disappoint. They have several paintings from the old masters. I didn’t love the architecture tour much. I didn’t learn much and that time would have been better spent going through more galleries. I do like how it is laid out, I only felt crowded a few times.
Eve Richards
A stunning museum with great art exhibition! Prepare to spend the entire day and be amazed. Perfect for taking the family. So many great works and lots to see and discover. One of the best in the entire US!. Enjoy and take it all in.
Daryoush Nekooi
Stunning! You must visit this beautiful, immaculately kept gallery and gardens. You can take a lunch up here and just relax in thr gardens for hours. Look around the art gallery and access any exhibition completely free. If you're driving, you'll only pay for parking, access is completely free. It's an amazing place and I was blown away by the level of service and the overall structure
Rafael Lupo
3 stars due to the stupid rule of having to wear a mask from parking to the museum (during train ride) only. Remove the mask rule and get a 5 star. The buildings are absolutely beautiful with great art displayed all over the museum, ancient artifacts, and rotating collections.
Chris (Just Roamin')
Wonderful campus of modern buildings containing some wonderful art. Most definitely worth a visit. There's at least one café for a bit of R and R. A shuttle takes you up the hill from the car park/taxi drop-off to the gallery. Some great views over LA are an added bonus.
Ashley Thomas
Great collection! I still can’t believe admission was free! There is a piece for everyone here; I particularly enjoyed the Greco Roman and Impressionist collections. If you know you like art museums, give yourself a lot of time to spend here. I think we spent 2 hours just on the top floors so we definitely didn’t get to everything. Tram ride is very peaceful and There’s a few food options too (mostly salads and sandwiches)
S. W.
The architecture is really impressing. Starting from the Trams upwards, then the Arizona garden and also the center garden are all beautiful. It’s also on top of the mountain so you can overlook the whole Los Angeles, and Santa Monica pier if weather allows.
The impressionism art is probably the most famous collection in the museum. The Irises of Van Gogh is here.
Ample tickets during the weekdays (book half an hour early would be enough) and for weekends often 1 day before is enough. I do see people without reservations are allowed at the gate (on a weekday).
Steven Mosborg
I had never been to the Getty Center, though it had long been on my bucket list. So glad I did, even if the interior exhibits were closed due to the pandemic this past January.
Opened in 1997, The Getty campus comprises the Getty Museum and other programs of the Getty Trust. The impressive facility was designed by renowned architect Richard Meier. The $1.3 billion Center boasts an impressive collection by such luminaries as Van Gogh, Monet and Cezanne. Also well known for its gardens and views overlooking Los Angeles amid the Santa Monica Mountains. Check it out!
sam kdm
What a wonderful place! So much to see and experience. The grounds and buildings are stunning. The views and breathtaking. The art was beautiful and profound. Wish I had more time to soak it all up. Highly recommend a visit!
Jackie Neely
I took myself on a date to The Getty and had a great time. It was beautiful, I took endless pictures of the structures and flowers and then settled down in the grass at one point to read a book. Parking is a bummer ($20), but that was the only pitfall.
I took the walk up to The Getty (main part) and walked down too. Next time, I may take the train/trolley they have but I prefer walking. Don't walk on the grass, I saw someone get yelled at for that.
I saw a lot of reviews before going about security, but I didn't have any issues thankfully.
Kj O
This place is more than just a museum! There are several buildings with gallery after gallery of amazing works of art...paintings, sculpture, textiles, drawings, pottery and glass, photography...
But you can also enjoy beautiful architecture and gardens, the restaurant and cafes, the gift shops and a panoramic view of the city! Parking is $20/vehicle but entrance to the museum is free. Just be sure to go to the website and make a reservation. Download the Getty app and bring earbuds and you can listen to a tour guide tell the stories behind the art. We were there for three hours and didn't see everything. Can't wait to return!
Bryant Sanchez
It was my first time at the Getty and I was not disappointed. Entry is free for everyone so all you have to do is pay $20 or $15 for parking ($15 if you come in after 3pm). It's very big and you can spend most of your day there and not see everything, they had pictures and sculptures and furniture. They have many works by well known artists like Van Gogh and Monet and also have an exhibit they change every so often. On the outside they have nice fountains and a beautiful flower garden. I only got to see two wings of the museum and the garden and went there for 3 hours. Definitely plan on visiting again and getting there earlier.
Darwin Gonzalez
This place is a fantastic place to visit. You will need to take a train which takes you to the top. Apart from the art and architecture of the building which is amazing when you get to the top you will see some fantastic views of the city from many different angles. There are shops, cafes and restaurants. The garden area is really cool and nice to take some pics.
Dylan Douglas
Getty is such a fun museum. Free admission, parking is just $15-20. For me it was worth it to just see the views of LA and the architecture of the buildings there. And then on top of that the gardens and art are awesome. Highly recommend.
Brad Beggs
Tickets (free entry, but you must have reservation) available two weeks in advance of your visit, but generally available up to a week before.
Ideal to get there first thing, with 10:00 the official entry time but free tram starts at 9:45. Parking is $20/car, with no free parking nearby, but bus stop at entry.
Plan to spend four+ hours to see much of the art and stroll the unbelievable gardens. Picnicking is encouraged, and you can check your picnic basket at the main building. Just don't bring alcoholic beverages, and pay attention to container size limits on website (FAQ section).
Georgi Bebov
Awesome space, nice gardens and city views. There is a small automatic train that will take you to the top and you can enjoy scenic views while traveling. Overall very impressive works of art all around.
vanessa tecson
Such a beautifully structured museum! Loved seeing the exhibits, architecture & artwork, but my favorite was the restaurant because their food was literally edible art!! Especially loved that the museum was free, just pay parking. So much to see, that I didn't get to finish seeing everything. Wouldn't recommend for young children because my 10 year old thought it was boring. Amazing view of LA too & fun tram ride to & from!
JeanneMarie Ginn
Wow, what a spectacular place to visit! So much art to appreciate (paintings, drawings, sculpture, on and on) plus a beautiful garden area. Fun, clean, and free (except the parking). Really cool exhibit (I know it's temporary, but I can't remember when it ends) about anatomy. Plan on spending the whole day there (and you still won't finish)!
Henry Nykolayow
Such a beautiful piece of architecture itself, and the fact it's an art museum! Came in early to beat the crowd, but it's not even that bad. Food was a little expensive, but it's worth it to stay on-campus and view all the art you can. Make sure to see both the permanent and temporary exhibits, including the garden! Make sure to "reserve" a parking spot: it's really for Getty's logistics. You actually pay for parking as you leave. (You can see parking rates on their website.) The museum itself is free.
Elia Sripuntanagoon
We had a fantastic family day at The Getty Museum. We agreed not to hurry and to enjoy the time together. The Getty Museum is immense. One has to plan ahead and accept that it can not be visited in just one day. It is a place where you can return many times with your love ones and friends and always find it refreshing and exciting.
Ingrid Lu
Parking for $20 inside the parking garage and riding on a tram to reach the museum on the hill top is an one-of-a-kind experience! It takes almost the entire day to view all famous paintings and historical artifacts. Should bring own lunch or purchasing on site is quite expensive.
Margaret Hui
The museum is exceeded my expectations. My favorite is landscape & exhibit was amazing. If you plan to visit you get free ticket in advance from website & also save paid parking receipt if you are going to visit the Getting Villa on same day than you don't have to pay parking fee. We are definitely enjoy our visit.
Vaylor Tan
“Nothing short of amazing, there are exhibits for everyone”
Entrance to the museum was free as it was the national Museum day, but parking is expensive so it balances out.
There are 5 buildings filled to the brim with exhibits, and each one of them are themed, so there is one with Victorian Era stuff, renaissance period paints (there was a Rembrandt), and one filled with photography related works.
We spent a whole afternoon here and it felt like it wasn’t enough. There is ample parking, and also a tram that you can take up to the actual museum from the parking building.
Kyle Tran
Slightly packed but free and worth the trouble with reservations. Park in the garages and go through fast entry and bag search, then the free tram takes you up to the exhibit. Many buildings with different arts/photography/sculptures to check out. The views up here are unmatched. Very aesthetic and clean spaces, nice outdoor garden area as well.
Jessica Parker
The website doesn't say, but parking is now $20. Please be aware. Admission is free but requires a reservation. Parking is down the hill and a tram will take you back and forth. It's interesting to read the history of J. Paul Getty before you go. It really does enhance the visit. There are several different places to eat there, plenty of food to keep you going all day. I did see a lot of people bringing picnic baskets and there's a lot of garden space to sit in.
Rob Widdick
Amazing area and exhibits, all for free public use. Taking the tram may be the fastest way up but there will likely be a line. Walking up is great for some exercise, take the sidewalk! You need to reserve a time online but if a time isn't available, call them as there are likely free tickets not online!
troy kelley
Simply one of the most amazing places to visit in Los Angeles. Everything about visiting the Getty is magical. From the musical crescendo while riding the tram up the incline to the main entrance to the stunning architecture that carefully displays thousands of years of art to the manicured gardens that beg for introspective contemplation.
Zach Klagge
Astounding art museum with beautiful grounds. Truly one of the premiere cultural institutions in the country. I highly recommend visiting, the architecture, scenery, and art are all amazing. The impressionist building was closed for renovations and will be until January 2022, but highlights were still viewable in another area. Also it has a tram truly what is not to like.
Hannah Sentenac
Wow. Just wow. This place is spectacular! The art, the gardens, the architecture ... everything about it is perfection. They have incredible art on site including a Van Gogh, Rembrandts, Manets, etc. Photography, paintings, sculptures, permanent and temporary exhibitions. The gardens, however, are the highlights. They are absolutely STUNNING. A rainbow of flowers, trees and succulents. There are carts and cafes on site (including that sell beer and wine), but you can also bring food and have a picnic on the green. You need to reserve tickets in advance (they're free) and parking is $20 during regular hours. No masks required but you need a mask for the tram ride up to the center from the parking garage. This is definitely a must-visit destination in the LA area, for tourists and locals alike.
Bryan Lau
The admission may be free, but the parking and food are not, and they can be a bit costly. However, the museum's exhibits are fun to walk through. The museum's exterior is flanked on nearly all sides with gorgeous views of the surrounding city, but these views are often in open, unshaded daylight. Bring water and try to stay cool if you're going in the summer.
Daniel Zheng
Amazing views all around including the museum itself!
The gardens are also very pretty!
The entrance is free but the parking is 20$ so yeah.
Also there is a tram that takes you from the parking to the museum.
Would definitely recommend!
Marc Auf der Heyde
This was an interesting experience. Like many visiting LA, I ended up visiting the Getty museum in the hopes of finding something to satisfy my cultural appetite, yet for a cheaper than average price. Read this as: LA is expensive, and venues like the Getty museum are unfortunately not the norm. If you like free experiences, definitely check out the Griffith Observatory, and try and catch one of the shows there!
The art displayed at the Getty is unfortunately not my cup of tea. That isn't to say that there might be something for you there, but what was mainly European art in the form of statues and paintings just didn't grab me. That being said, the view you can get at the Getty museum is incredible. As well as the building itself and the Mono rail experience. If you're looking for a nice day out to catch some views and see something different, then the Getty is perfect for you, especially if you're on a budget. As a European, the prices of museums in the U.S quite literally shocked me, so finding an experience like this was especially nice!
Vassil Vassilev
Great art, of course. And beautiful sunset views. Visiting the Getty is free, parking is $20. Prior appointment required, as of January 2022. The lines to get in can get quite long; on a busy day, after the Covid certificate / security check, consider hiking on foot, it's a lot faster than waiting for the tram to take you (and tons of other visitors) uphill.
Beatriz Lim
Absolutely gorgeous!! The museum’s architecture itself was already so amazing, and including the views of the city below was just breathtaking. The gardens were my personal favorite, as well as the French paintings. Would definitely come back to explore more! The tram ride up also added to the uniqueness of the experience. It tends to be busy towards the end of the day, but the walk down to parking was also quite nice.
James Jordan
Always a great outing for 1 or a group. Parking is $20 per car and admission is free. It is super fun to take the monorail up and walk down if they let you. The exhibits are always interesting and they have great snack & food options. For a fun evening Fridays off the 405 are a great way to enjoy the grounds and enjoy live music. I've seen quite a few great bands here. Don't forget the gardens!

It's the best place with friends, family, or with anyone. You need good 3 hours, I think. Stay and sit down garden area and smell all those flowers. Little crowded on Saturday. Avoid ordering a coffee in the the cafe. Still not hot enough. Getty Center makes me very happy to live in Los Angeles!
Irene “MJ” Kim
You can spend an enchanting time in a beautiful space. Wear comfortable clothes, go for a walk, and enjoy the grass! Be sure to book your admission to the museum in advance.
Adolfo Herrera Fernandez
It is a place with beautiful gardens, many rooms with exhibitions of paintings and sculptures full of beauty, art, and history, spacious and comfortable picnic areas, restaurants, cafes, highly recommended to spend a pleasant day with family or friends. I recommend requesting your tickets in advance, it have no cost, only parking, the fee is $20
Sarah
What a brilliant exhibition centre! Not only does it feature exceptional art from the post modern era but the architecture seen on premises is so sharp
and clean just walking to the exhibition seems like an experience. I would highly recommend The Getty Centre if you are in the area and have a few hours to kill 😃
Sevda Pouraghaie
I can’t write enough of how incredible this place is! Besides the incredible architecture, the collection of paintings, sculptures and furniture is very unique. We have been in this place 6-7 times before but haven’t been able to cover all the exhibitions yet cause we like to spend enough time on each piece rather than rushing to cover all the buildings! You’ll need a full day to spend enough time on each item. Food and beverage is a bit pricey so you can bring your own food, fruit, drink, etc., and enjoy your meal with an exceptional view. The garden is also a must see gorgeous place with beautiful flowers. If you have kids, bring them along, they really enjoy playing in the garden.

The Getty is a great way to start acclimating yourself to Los Angeles County if you are not from here. It is a way to see how Californians do with their spin on an art museum. It takes you up a very beautiful tram, up the side of a mountain ⛰️, and then lands you in a very well designed art gallery which is spliced between interior design skills and ancient art. It allows you to take a break with a view of Los Angeles County. From The Ocean in Santa Monica to the Skyscrapers in Downtown Los Angeles. As well as some of the Views afforded to you of Bel air. It is truly exquisite.
Dev Master
Great Museum. Great art pieces. Gorgeous buidlings and landscaping as well. The garden is picturesque. Great place for families. Lots of seating and shade as well. There is a cafe with plentiful selection of food. Tram ride to the museum is a ton of fun and very pretty ride. I recommend coming for a visit. No admission few but you have to pay for parking 20 dollars.
K Rrr
Really nice campus and gardens with an amazing view! Food options weren't bad, but extremely overpriced so beware if you're spending the day here. The $20 parking is easily worth it if you stay for half a day and/or come as a group.
To be aware, the art on display is largely pre-18th century European work, with a few modern and impressionist works scattered around the various buildings and in a small sculpture garden. Sitting outside in the garden and even lying on the lawn on a good day are highly recommend.
Lousje
This museum is located at a gorgeous location on top of a mountain, offering a beautiful view on Los Angeles. There are beautiful gardens and they have a lot of masterpieces of art. A tram takes you up the hill. Only one downside: the parking fee of USD 20.
Sophia Zhang
You have to take a tram to the museum, but the wait is very short. The exhibits were beautiful with some very famous pieces. I would recommend you to take one of their free tours, especially if you are someone like me who knows nothing about art. It really enhances your experience, although sometimes the tour guide talked a bit too slow. The architecture and gardens were beautiful, and I spent the whole morning here.
Gerardo Rocha
Beautiful museum. We saw Van Gogh, Rembrandt, King Louis XIV artwork and much more! Love it!
We took an 8 day road trip and visited many places, but this museum was my favorite. I'm more of a history person, not much of an art person but after seeing these paintings and reading about them I am now very interested in art.
Guy Heger
Such a cool spot to escape to in LA. The Getty feels like you have been transported into the sky via train as you slowly creep up the mountain side. The architecture is breathtaking and so new feeling. When I am up here I see the rest of the city but I forget about everything I stress out about when i'm down there. The art is cool but for me the reason I keep coming back is for a bit of a mental escape.
Elise Cade
They were very kind and still let me and my boyfriend in without making reservations, but you are supposed to reserve your time here, especially if you have a larger group. They may not give you entry! It is free to get in, but $20 to park.
But we loved this museum! We parked and then took a cute trolly up the hill and the grounds are stunning! You honestly could just spend the whole day here. It was sunny, but breezy, bring layers or check the weather. The architecture and gardens were beautiful, they have a restaurant and Cafe as well. And of course the art exhibits were fun to see. Many people just laid in the grass and enjoyed the ambiance outside. And of course there were 2 gift shops, but the one at the front is much larger.
Asna S
Beautiful gardens and great views. The tram ride up was a nice bonus as well. It was a little difficult to navigate between buildings and levels so make sure to grab a map from the desk as you enter
Srishti Katuri
A great visit for a sunny day! The layout of the museum is pretty unique with its aesthetic gardens and aerial views of LA. The free tram ride to the top is an exciting touch. Two out of four of the palladiums were closed when I visited but regardless, a day well spent considering admission is free!
Dara Nicole
It was an amazing experience. Parking it’s $20 but there are plenty of EV chargers, like 20 spaces or so. You take a cute train to go up and down. The collection is mesmerizing. The museum is huge and has an amazing architecture. All of the towers connect from inside. The coffee carts are well stocked and all around the place. The gardens and views are wonderful. You can take between 3-5 hours. Also you can bring food in and eat at the gardens.
DruAusten Fields
I had an AMAZING time here. I love that the museum is not strictly indoor exhibits, as the gardens outside helped make the experience more well rounded. There are so many great photo ops, and the views from this place are spectacular. I only wish I had more time to go to all of the exhibits.
Olesia Fisun
A great place to visit if you are looking for a break from the beach and palm trees! Art lovers would definitely appreciate this place for its architecture and paintings.
We underestimated the amount of time you can spend there. Please, budget about 2-3 hours for this place. If you only have 1-1,5 hours - go to Getty Highlights and the Garden - those are beautiful! This place is also great for catching the sunset.
!!! Important - RSVP on the website before going! We saw that the addition is free and we just went, assuming we don’t need to purchase tickets, but you need to reserve your space.
Highly recommend visiting this museum.
Jennifer Johnson
Fabulous museum. Buy tickets in advance. Parking is the tricky part. The parking garage is below and then you ride a tram up to the museum. There is so much to see and experience. Famous artists, sculpture, antique furniture, and a lovely garden.
Nikita Egorov
Fantastic place with interesting history. I was surprised because it’s free, but I’ll want to pay for felling this freedom. Good place for family’s. A lot of great pictures, gift shop, restrooms. I want to visit again this museum!
Dennis Quast
The Getty Museum is famous for its large collection of art and you will certainly not be disappointed when you visit. The Garden of the museum is also very beautiful and a nice place to relax. Get a cup of coffee and immerse yourself in nature.
James Martin
Exhibits were ok but gardens are Fantastic!! Love the design of the stream from falling rain to underneath rocks to narrow canyon to wide delta to waterfall into large pool, brilliant!! Also a great view of the city. Free admission but parking in the parkade is $20. Definitely worth a visit!
R S
Not your typical museum. The gardens and architectural features are just as impressive as the art collections. Admission is free. The views of LA and surrounding hills alone make it worth the time there, even if you are on a tight schedule! Parking is $20 for the day or less after 3pm. Food is available at modest prices, and alcoholic beverages are too. Can't say enough good things about this place!
Nitish Vashishtha (NV)
An amazing collection of paintings, sculptures and furniture from 1300-1500. Can't believe that it's free to enter. Although, the parking will set you back 15$. Prefer to take the shuttles from the parking to the museum instead of the tram, which seemed to have a much longer wait time.
Steven Sek
The Getty is an amazing place to visit! It has beautiful architecture, and the loveliest garden. The tram ride was so cool and had beautiful views. Both tickets and tram ride are completely free. (at the time that I'm writing this) Security also checks your bags if you have any after you check in. Also they make you walk through a metal detector, at least I think. Beware of traffic in the afternoon though. Took me almost an hour to get there because of the major traffic on the 405 freeway. All the staff were super nice, and when I called to ask if being late than our tickets said to come, they were super friendly and accommodating. At the time I'm writing this review, you do need to reserve tickets ahead of time. Most ticket times are available in the morning if you want same-day tickets. Parking was easy, prices for parking when I'm writing this is $20, and $15 after 3PM. On the parking ticket, it did say if you came back and paid within an hour of getting your parking ticket, parking is free. I don't know if this is true since I paid mere minutes after it went over an hour. Anyways, lovely place and I highly recommend you visit.
Nicholas Boleky
Absolutely 5 stars. Free entrance, friendly staff, bring $20 for parking and you'll have the experience of a lifetime. Get there early and wander around outside for the best views. Try not to bring any large bags because they don't let you wear anything on your back and you'll have to awkwardly carry it on your arm.
Maddie Parker
A MUST see when in LA. Such a wonderful experience every time.
Tips: Bring your own picnic lunch (if they still allow) and enjoy in their small grass area outside. Their food is absolutely terrible. But the architecture and exhibits are just stunning.
Pat Miller
Don't waste time printing out your scheduled pass. They only want to have an idea of how many are coming and when. Save your ink & paper.
Parking is $20 and you won't need the ticket until you leave the lot. Leave the ticket in your vehicle.
The collections are fabulous and the items are nicely displayed, giving people ample room to move around. The outside terraces provide wonderful views of the landscapes beyond.
Remember to download the Getty app and earbuds for additional information.
Mark Dooley
Besides the art and artifacts, the Getty has the best views of Los Angeles. Need timed tickets to take the tram up to the Getty, but usually one can get them. Recommend getting an early ticket, as there is much to see and do. There is a small cafe with great views as well.
Carla Zamora
Great place if you like art and architecture. Also one of the best spots to catch the sunset. Even if you made an online reservation you have to stand in queue for some minutes, then a train or bus takes you to the main entrance of the museum. I got there by bus but considering distances you might want to drive there
Zan Lee
Easily one of the very best free activities you can do in Los Angeles as well as one of the best museums you can visit. Even if you don’t go inside the grounds alone are worth visiting. The only part I have ever had an issue with are the large amounts of other visitors (especially with kids), dealing with lines, and people crowding around certain popular art pieces, but I can’t blame that on the institution, but know that any day and time you go it will be busy and full of people in every part. It’s not a place to find a quiet corner.
Inside they have some really beautiful art, most of which dealing with my personal favorite European, but they also have a lot of Asian and Middle Eastern art as well. It’s very easy to spend multiple hours here getting lost in all the different rooms and alcoves and following up on all the stories you read about in the descriptions next to the pieces. What makes this place special is you can really mix up your visit by going inside and outside instead of just doing one exclusively. They also have a nice café on the bottom level for refueling. Parking is easy and it’s no wonder why this place is as famous as it is. I highly recommend and think it’s a mistake for anyone not to visit this place at least once.
Sophia Feng
Like the gardening tour and architecture tour. The de Kooning tour on a special exhibit highlighting the restoration of woman ochre after the theft was good one, too. You can have a nice day mixed with outdoor and indoor activities. That’s pretty unique about Getty’s. All for free. (Parking fee is collected by the city)
Reece Lemmon
The place is absolutely beautiful and there is a lot to see. There is a large collection of art to enjoy, but the crowds detract from the calm that is experienced at most other museums I’ve visited. The center is an architectural wonder, but there is a really funny oversight in the men’s restrooms (see pics). The reflection of you doing your business is very revealing hahahaha. I suppose it’s par for the course in a place that houses so many classical nudes. :)
Priyanka lallu
Art lover, will surely enjoy the painting Collections. Central Park is good relaxing place. The flow of small stream gives you peace and good feel to read your favorite book.
Linh Tran
It is free but you do need reservations. I didn’t know this but because we came at 10am on a Thursday and there was barely anyone there, the checkin person kindly let us in. Definitely come early before it gets crowded. Absolutely beautiful place; I especially love the garden. The landscapers work HARD here, so beautiful.
Erik Terwey
Great collection of European art, plus a photography wing, beautiful gardens, and multiple outdoor sculptures. The entire complex is a work of art unto itself. Add onto that the fact that there are no better views of downtown LA to the Pacific, and admission is free!
Dominic Benedetto
What an amazing place! I went for the Cy Twombly exhibit. Make sure to book free tickets online in advance. I took the 761 Metro bus from Westwood and it dropped me off right at the Getty parking area. It's easy to walk about 100 yards to the tram which then takes you up to the main entrance. Everything about the place is beautiful and the views are awesome.
David R
One of the best museums I've ever been to, was giant with so many pieces of artwork, furniture, books, potery, a tram ride and various levels and rooms. I was extremely happy to experience coming here. A must visit!
Izzy
Museum and gardens were beautiful and well maintained. Staff were always very helpful and kind. It’s a little confusing to get through some buildings but if you go in order around the museum it’s a little easier. Loved it!
Gabi Friedman
Really enjoyed the paintings in the West building, the gardens and the feature exhibit on Fantasy. My family and I really liked looking at the beautiful illustrations in the illuminated manuscripts and seeing where some popular modern fantasy was rooted in medieval literature.
Definitely book tickets in advance, and keep in mind that even though the museum itself is free the parking is $20. If you can, walk down from the museum to the parking instead of taking the tram. Beautiful views.
Very big and crowded museum, can feel very overwhelming. The free small group tours may be a good place to start— we enjoyed the garden tour. No way to do this place in whole in one day.
orlando ::
It's free. This museum has amazing gardens and amazing at, it's a nice experience going up by train and arriving at the top where the view is amazing. They have a lot of places to chill and drink a coffee while you wait for the sunset. Very nice place to be
Colleen Giddings
The Getty Centre is architecturally stunning and the art is extensive. Thoroughly enjoyed it all. Hope to come back and do the architecture tour and an art tour. With the layout it’s easy to miss some of the display areas. Allow a few hours to explore.
Cynthia Kotula
It was the best thing we visited in LA. A very impressive museum. Lots of art from different periods. There was not enough to visit everything. I will definitely return. I was overwhelmed by this fantastic place.
Mayur Patel
The Getty Center is an incredible museum where the building and property/gardens are works of art as well. I appreciate that the admission is always free, although parking is $20 so I believe that's how they make up for it. You park at the structure and take a really neat tram ride up to the museum campus. There are a good mix of buildings and I could not finish appreciating all of the art on 3 hours - if you want to see everything plan to come for a full day. There are a few gardens, including a cactus garden and a wonderful waterfall area. It is also very peaceful and relaxing to just spend an afternoon here. I will be back to see what I missed! Update: just an amazing place to visit any time of the year. In the summer everything is in full bloom so it is definitely worth it!
R Singh
Parking is paid, but, admission is free, although they do require reservation. Very scenic location. Lots of art work to see. Garden is just amazing...
Jake Arstein
The Getty is the coolest art museum I’ve been to. It’s located on a hill overlooking downtown LA. It has beautiful modern stone architecture with lots of glass. To get there you park at the bottom of the hill and take a tram to the top. Entrance is free but parking is $20. You can’t miss the garden with it’s beautiful waterfall and grassy area plus lots of colorful plants. As far as art, the JMW Turners and Monets and Van Gogh are my favorites. It’s definitely worth visiting. One of the best things to do in LA
Kate L
This place feels like it’s out of another world. The views are stunning, it’s removed from the hustle and bustle of the city, and the grounds are full of beautiful trees and plants. The architecture makes nice lines with the vistas, and it’s pleasant to just be outside on the grounds. The art is full of interesting history, and while very Euro-centric, has some lovely pieces that really make you think. The Van Gogh and Monet were especially nice, and the collection of French furniture is fascinating and intricate.
Ibrahim N
rich 🤑 experience in culture and heritage, built on a hillside and overlooking Los Angeles and Hollywood, and there are several areas in the building that display various museums in a contemporary architectural style with architecturally neutral colors that may be an important visit to increase cultural information
Saeed alkurdi
It's an amazing place. The garden and architecture tours are very informative and the guides are able to answer most questions.
Food and wine are good in price and quality.
A must see in LA if you like plants, architecture, or want to see some fantastic paintings and furniture from different time periods.
John Crosby
Amazing European art museum that is free to the general public. Check for reservation requirements as you can be turned back during busy times. The art is mostly sculptures and painting from Europe 1600s to 1900s with exhibits in photography and some outside gardens.
Most activities are handicapped accessible.
The open layout and easy transition between buildings can make it difficult to find everything without ensuring you don't miss something though.
Staff were great and mostly friendly, but drink away from the art and don't try to touch the art.
Has a few scenic overlooks of the city that are worth checking out and they have a cool tram to ride up the mountain if you don't want to do the 20 minute hike.
Storm Story
Free museum but you have to make reservations. A little train will take you up the mountain, look outside you might see a deer or mountain lion.
Collection is huge als beautiful garden. Lots of Dutch Masters!
Nirva Dhaya
First time checking out the Getty after a handful of visits to LA and was really impressed by the value ($15 for parking after 3pm) and walked around the outside of the property and saw beautiful flowers and architecture. Didn't make it inside any of the exhibits, but would go back for sure!
Christopher
Great museum, beautiful location, always a great experience. You can spend the whole day here and really not get bored. Views of the city skyline from the museum alone are worth the trip.
Michael J
FYI: A must-go place in LA, especially beautiful during the sunset
——————
Pro:
1. Beautiful architecture with incredible arts FOR FREE; remember to make reservation online in advance;
2. A fantastic places for portrait photography, especially for the romantic ones. I attached my photos below as a reference
3. Not too far away from the city; Has chargers——electric cars friendly
——————
Cons:
1. The food and cafe is not good
2. I doubt if the artworks shown to the public are real ones… some looks fake tbh
Julie Balboni
This is a wonderful art museum. The views are absolutely outstanding and the art was gorgeous. They have many pieces of art and furniture that belonged to King Louis XIV and Marie Antoinette. It's was very interesting to see how ornate and ostentatious the furniture was as the French people of the time couldn't even afford bread. The two most famous paintings I recognized were Irises by Van Gogh, and Ducreux's Self Portrait - Yawning. Very cool to see.
The gardens were beautiful as well, they had fantastic water features and succulents. Absolutely worth a trip if you have not been yet.
lahdan rahmati
The Getty is a place everyone should visit once a quarter. Excellent permanent exhibits of western European art and visiting collections. Elegant dining is available. Shared a delicious meal with my mom. Chef makes meals with attention to detail and fresh locally sourced ingredients. People who staff this location and make up the Getty Team are the best of the best. Thanks to the Getty Team, and Rigis and Juan for the excellent dining experience!
J Ramses Arias
Thee perfect place to share a good memory & have a succulent picnic as well as inspiration from all the art exhibits & architectural surrounding.
(The Parking lot fee is included with thee building entry which was $20 you pay the fee when you leave.)
Daneli Arroyo
Beautiful place to visit, very peaceful, the employees can provide a great guidance if you needed help. Maps of the museum are available in more than 5 languages. If you visit California this is a must go.
Nathanael Christy
You can't beat free and it's difficult to beat this view! It was easy to spend the day here, but make sure to take a lunch or snack (the food is expensive). And make sure to spend some time in the gardens, the aroma and beauty are unmatched.
sunil raj
Very interesting place. Lots to see and a great place to just hang out and watch the sunset. The lighting here at that time of day is just phenomenal. Very photogenic. Some cool paintings and artifacts but I was a bit disappointed that we couldn’t see van goghs irises for some reason. Courtyard is very tranquil to sit in, and the tram up offers some great views. Reminded me a lot of the Aga khan museum in Toronto.
Alex Kertis
Make a reservation for your parking ($20), hop on the free shuttle which takes you uphill to the beautiful Getty Center (free admission). Spectacular art exhibits throughout many multi-story buildings, a restaurant, beautiful grounds to walk, lots of outdoor seating. I love this place!
christina marie Johnson
Free! Amazing views from the outside decks. You take a free tram up to the museum which is cool. Huge place to explore!!! And of course there is a museum gift shop to explore fun things.
Rick Burke
Amazing museum, truly. If reading this and going for the first time, and have the schedule, don't in the ever as I bet there is an amazing sunset to be had there.... Irises from Vincent Van Gogh and the other impressionist truly special. Don't miss the garden either....!!!!
Ray Gonzalez
The Getty is a great place for the whole family or own your own. Beautiful gardens, wonderful architecture and huge collection of art. It's recommended to book appointments in advance.
Make sure you book your spot in advance to avoid delays entering the building. I was lucky to arrive super early and be able to access the museum.
Sophie Wu
It’s free to reserve the ticket online but plan ahead to reverse the tickets early because sometimes the tickets are sold out. You do need to pay parking for about $15/vehicle but it’s totally worth every penny. The art collection in the Getty is impressive, which includes the Iris from Van Gogh.
Courtney E
Amazing experience. The buildings and grounds are beautiful, and the art well presented! I really appreciated the placards with the background of the artwork, bc I forgot to bring headphones for the audio tour. The docents were nice and knowledgeable also!
Lexi S
Words can’t even describe the feeling this place will give you, i am absolutely speechless and amazing by how beautiful it is here.
When you first walk in you will be greeted by employees, (you are supposed to have a reservation) however we didn’t and neither did the people in front of us if they are having a slow day and have cancellations you should be able to enter but if not you can’t. So please make sure you call ahead of time to either make a reservation or to see if they are busy.
We had the choice of walking up a hill which takes about 20 minutes, or you can take the tram 🚊 free of charge. We took the tram and got and amazing video of the view it will take you 5 minutes to get all the way to the top.
Once you step of you are told where you should start to walk through. This place is huge so wear good shoes. the paintings and sculptures where absolutely stunning you are able to take pictures as long as you don’t use flash.
They have a beautiful garden you are able to walk through and they even have benches if you get tired walking down! They have pomegranate trees (my favorite) and lots of other plants.
Parking is free as long as you only stay for and hour after that it’s $20, considering you don’t have to pay for looking at any of the art or going to the gardens it is a pretty fair deal in my opinion.
If you have never been here please come to experience it! You’re expectations will not be let down 🥰
C. Janelle
Iconic museum with fabulous gardens. The garden tour is excellent, and the views are fantastic. There's too much to see in just one visit. I was impressed with how efficiently crowds are handled (going early helps), although the parking garage is a bit of a maze.
Madelyn Arion
A place that honors classical art 🥰
With the fashion in which ‘modern art’ has revolutionized the fine art industry — returning to classical art is a breath of fresh air. Classical works are our mere foundation of our modern creativity. They say while referring to design, “Nothing will be done that has not already been done”. To an extent, it’s true! Many museums however, focus solely on contemporary approaches (especially in LA), and while it is captivating and fresh, I greatly appreciate a gallery of variety.
Great selection of artists through the ages — 5 stars!!
Austin
IT IS NOT FREE. Parking is $20 haha. Everything on site from the tram to the center was astonishing and worth visiting even if you are not an art fanatic. The views and the garden alone are worth visiting. Do NOT miss!
Anton Dragoman
The Getty is very interesting, its free but its better to make reservations, also they check your vaccination status. Lots of things to see beautiful gardens, amazing views and astonishing art pieces.
Evelyn Nguyen
Marvelous place. If you like arts, this place is amazing. If you like architectural design, this place is for you. If you just want to see the best city view as the sun goes down, this place is for you. Ticket is required at the bargain price of $0. Parking is $20. We arrived after 12pm. It is crowded for me and wish that we came during the week. Proof of Vaccination is required. We have a marvelous time
Dustin Fossum
Had such a wonderful day exploring art from 100bc to 2022. The exhibits were captivating and the sculpture garden was serene. 10/10 will be back each season as long as I live in LA.
Iani Batilov
Decided to check out The Getty on a whim almost since we were in the area and heard good things about it from the family. This place is a hidden gem and highly worth checking out since as of writing this, admission is free with a reservation through their website. Seems like there's plenty of availability so all you are on the hook for is $20 for parking. After going through security and the covid checkpoint there is a funicular like tram that takes you up to the complex. That was a scenic short ride and you're on top. The complex itself is an architectural art piece that you feel like you are exploring as you walk around. Wonderful stonework, breathtaking views of the city and ocean, and a really cool garden area that I wish we had more time to just sit and enjoy. The plants, flowers, and all the vegetation arranged around the meandering water feature that ended in a pool, were a pleasure to walk around. We visited a few of the galleries with Renaissance period art, sculptures, and furniture pieces. The place is like a miniature Louvre without the immense crowds. The cafe area looked inviting too but we were short on time, would definitely visit again.
Carlos Andres Bolivar Polania
Great views, great gardens…. Great place for chill and learn about art. Amazing contribution to conservation on the art.
Parking 20 all the visit and entrance free, at least in Sunday. A reservation is required to access, suggest to do it online.
Paolo Gardinali
A must see for everyone in Southern California and beyond. Come for the art, for the architecture, or to just have a picnic and get priceless views of Los Angeles. Or why not, all of the above?
David Garnica
Extraordinary! What a beautiful place!! I wish we had more time to keep looking around. It was an unreal experience for me and family, so many great pieces in such a beautiful building.
Praveen Sr
The Getty houses a great collection of paintings, sculptures and photographs, including works by Van Gogh, Rembradnt, Manet, Goya, Cezanne and Monet. The entry is free, including for the tram ride up the hill. Parking fee is 20 dollars, and it is hard to find a spot. Also catch some great views of the city from the centre.
Hrishikesh Sinkar
Amazing place to visit. Great views of the city, amazing gardens, historic art works and few cafes. Definitely worth the visit!
Jim Mannoia
A beautiful place, not as much to do for children 10 11 12 and 13 has might be but it is a beautiful location and on a beautiful day the vistas by themselves are worth the trip.
One suggestion I would make is that Getty add some SIGNS telling people not to climb on the steps in front of the main entrance and not to lean on the railings in the tram stations and how far away to remain from the paintings. Instead they only have people there. So with even responsible young 12-year-olds we were not on site more than 10 minutes and we had been shouted at across long distances in public by the Getty staff embarrassing these young teens. This started our visit on a very very sour note. Not exactly a good way to give already reluctant teens a desire to return to a museum. And it's really UNNECESSARY when a sign could do the job. Then staff can follow up if the signs are disobeyed. But with no markings or any indication that you cannot step up on some of the elevations that are plainly available in enticing for young people they feel humiliated before they even get in the door. Put the signs there and then follow up Don't expect people to know where you can and cannot climb.

Great magical place , loved the galleries exhibitions and art work. GREAT VARIETY And high value items. Better to make reservations online for FREE, to not been delayed entrance
Marsha Collier
Why visit the Getty Museum? Because it has a classic art collection, incredible architecture and an ever evolving gardens.
There's something for everyone in the Getty's art collection. Don't leave without seeing Vincent Van Gogh's iconic Irises. The art displayed covers over 5,000 years.
I've been visiting here ever since the opening. The travertine used throughout the buildings dates from about 8,00 to 80,000 years ago. You can find fossils embedded in the blocks if you look carefully.
Go, enjoy, and be revived!
Alexandra Cervantes
This place is lovely. It can getting busy on the weekends but during the week it is calmer and you have more freedom to roam around as you please. The west pavilion is closed but at least they have most of their impressionist art in a special exhibition right now so you can still enjoy Van Gogh’s Irises. It’s so pretty now that you can stay to watch the sunset and see the lights on the trees. Definitely recommend making the reservation ahead of time though. Also they will check vaccine information which made me feel safe. I must say they do promptly closed everything at 5:30, so I recommend heading out a couple minute before that. Can’t wait to see the upcoming exhibitions.
Ashley Mulvihill
I went to both the Villa & the Center today, and wanted to send a big shoutout to both Kat and Suzette at the Getty Center’s welcome/information desk! They were a phenomenal team helping me with directions, Kat was so hospitable answering the rest of my questions. Can’t say enough great things about the locations, and can’t see the entire Center in just one day. Will be back soon!

It's free, so that's great. Parking is simple and reasonably priced. The shuttle ride is great, but I'll walk next time. I spent most of the time in the garden, which has familiar and unique plants.
Klau Pao
If you like beautiful scenery, art, calmness and history, this is the place to go. The view is so pretty and the ride up from the parking lot is pleasant. The parking was $20 on that Saturday I visited, but my plan went great as by visiting the Getty Center and the Getty Villa the same day, taking your ticket stamped, you get to pay for one parking for two places. The Getty Center is free and it is pretty big, take a snack or buy some food there and wear comfortable clothes to walk a lot. I love art, for me, the art there was blah. It was mainly replicas of European statues and art, the main and most interesting art in my opinion was; La Promenade by Renoir, Irises by van Gogh, Jeanne (Spring) by Manet and Euclid by Jusepe. My favorite of all was The oldest book of the Americas, literaly the oldest book in the American continent by the Mayans where you can literally see a bit of the Mayan blue, it is amazing to see it!
Shirley Wang
Beautiful paintings and sculpture exhibitions are displayed in sleek futuristic architecture. Be warned though, modern art fans, not sure if it's
because of the period where I visited, all the paintings featured were realistic, allusions to biblical stories or Greek mythology, so it might get a little repetitive after a while. However, there is still much to see and explore. The whole compound is huge, so be prepared to do a lot of walking.
There is a well-maintained outdoor compound to be explored, with extensive green space for visitors to walk around and a beautiful flower garden. Head to the top of the buildings enjoy the view of the city. Definitely worth a visit.
Also, do make a reservation in advance, especially on weekends as there may be limited slots for everyone. General admission is free.
Todd
Exquisite... Very nice. One of the few places where you can see Van Gogh diga Monet and Munch in one place... Note to self do not wear sneakers next time you'll be squeaking your way around every exhibit
R T
Very nice, well funded museum. The grounds are vast and beautiful. You can easily spend the whole day exploring.
John Bernardo
No visit to Los Angeles is complete unless you visit the Getty Center. Amazing on the inside & outside as well. Place is huge with so much to see that it will be tough to see everything in one day though. The parking fee & gas is money well spent.
Nick Xie
Fantastic place to visit, not just for the galleries but the whole grounds. Just a fair warning though for those planning on ubering there, getting an Uber in the evening after the Getty closes can be a bit of a challenge so have a backup plan.
Virginia Wright
Big fan of the Getty. Came last week with my partner during the day. The museum was free, parking is $20, and you take the tram to the top. There’s a small cafe with pastries and drinks outside, between all of the exhibits. Great place for kids too, make sure you pick up the flyer for kids to scavenger hunt around the museum!
Vero Gutierrez
Loved it! Everything was very well organized. We made an early morning appointment, and I was grateful since we had no problems with parking. Parking is $20. The food is over priced but considering the museum is free and the grounds are well kept, it's worth paying a bit extra. The view of the city is beautiful Can't wait to go again
Gaya Irfan
Beautiful building with stunning views of LA. Well organised, child friendly. Family room and parking ($20) available. Great art.
Billie Evans
I've been to the Getty twice and both times leave me wanting to come back for more because there's just not enough time to see it all.
This last time, mid October, several of the galleries were closed, but the pieces we did see were as amazing as always. I enjoy the views, as much as I enjoy the art. The grounds are meticulously maintained.
Parking is $20 I hear. We've always taken the train and/or bus. Mass transit is pretty easy in LA.
A perfect way to spend the day.
Sanchit Batra
A must-do attraction considering it's free and you could easily spend a whole day here! Parking is $20 so try and park elsewhere and walk to the entrance if you can.
Aside from the art pavilions the garden is really nice for a lunch nap.
If you have a large bag there is a spot to check it in.
Amazing views of LA!
Dr Reyes
I had no reservation but I got there kind of early by 11am. I was still able to get in without making a big line. The train is about 5 mins uphill and didnt have to pay. I paid for parking $20. Its a great experience full of culture. On the West wind section 204 they have couple of Monet Pictures and the Irises from Van Gogh. Defintely worth the trip. They have a pretty simple cafeteria with plenty of sitting outside. There is also a big garden to take pictures, sit and relax and for the little ones to play.
Aarial Taylor
Such an amazing time with my daughter, enjoying this amazing museum. She made a reservation for us. We paid $20 for parking. No charge to get in. We had to take the tram up. It was a nice ride. Beautiful sculptures and art work. Definitely worth going back. The people that worked there were very kind and helpful.
Claudia Ahwireng
You must pay for parking. Boo. Otherwise, this is a nice muesum complex to visit. It is very clean and the artwork is kept in good shape. There are a wide variety of artists on display.
Christian Kolb
Wish I had more time to spend here. The place is huge, you must park at the bottom of the hill and take a team up. Parking is $20, but the museum is free. Need to go online and make a reservation. If you have not, still go and ask if you can go in. We were able to still get in without a reservation. That meting said, you can go for the paintings, statues, architecture, landscaping or the views. They are all fabulous. Again, take your time, you can easily spend the entire day here and not see everything. But you will see some extremely famous paintings and sculptures.
Kevin Cubberly
Entry is free but parking is $20. We didn't have nearly enough time to get into all of the galleries. We did go through the gardens though. Really pretty.
Dennis Hartley - Real Estate Agent
Spent a relaxing weekday afternoon enjoying some of mankind’s greatest artistic achievements. Have always liked how removed this museum is from the rest of L.A. Visited my favorite Getty works of art, Van Gogh’s “Irises” Pontormo’s “Portrait of a Halberdier” and Monet’s “Sunrise”. Took in the Cy Twombly exhibit and had lunch on site at The Restaurant, kinda pricey but had a pleasant view.
Recommend going during the week, very light crowd.
yvonnegone
Probably top 5 things to see/do in LA. Unforgettable scenery, architecture, and art of course. The layout is a bit confusing for first timers/no map, but I didn't mind getting lost in the art :) highly recommend just grabbing some wine or a soda and enjoying the small plaza
Alexandro Salinas (Alex)
Great place to visit especially if you love art. The museum is free to visit, you honestly just pay for the parking and you’re done. The parking was $20 and the rest is free to watch. There is tour guides but I beleive that might cost, not 100%. Regardless, I recommend getting the GETTY app in advance as you can search the art piece or the subject you are looking at and hear a long but informative explanation on the piece.
Denis Mantsurov
Great experience. There are some interesting art pieces and paintings to see. The views of LA are amazing. Very interesting architecture. Make sure you reserve your visit time online before you go. Also take sun glasses if you go on the sunny day. It’s very bright outside and reflections from the white buildings are very strong.
Percy C
It had 20+ years since my first visit. I recommend taking public transportation to get here (saves you $20 parking fee).
If you're local, don't do it all at once; split your visits. Toutists, definitely come check out the garden and see what's in the temporary exhibit hall.
L M
One of the best museums in LA! The building itself is a work of art. Only $15 to park here and that's it! There is so much to see here, so I suggest you make it a day trip.
Yuriy Sountsov
An excellent, clean, and high quality museum and park experience, The Getty is a strong example of how to present enjoyable art spaces and maintain desirable outdoor environments. The complex consists primarily of a parking area, a choice of a tram or road approach, and a campus of multifloor museum areas mixed with both hardscape and softscape. There are also dining areas. The tram operates every few minutes while the road walk takes about 20 minutes.
Stephen Lee
The gem of Los Angeles! $20 for parking and that's it! Beautiful gardens, art, and incredible views!!! Some of the employees are extremely rude but others are extremely nice! So it evens out. LOL. You need to reserve your time of entry and download your tickets onto your phone or you can print them as well. Proof of vaccination needed.
Brian Kates (Big B)
This is a great museum. And it is FREE, other than the parking which is $20, but that is normal in this city. I brought my family here for the day so that the children can appreciate ART. I would highly recommend to anyone coming to LA to spend a few hours here
Sung Cho
Amazing architecture and museum. Fun tram ride up to the museum. Can spend all day here looking at the multiple buildings and doors of exhibits.
Incredible views of LA!!!
Can park at both locations between here and the villa for the price of one if you ask the info desk at the first location you go to.
Jessie Garcia
Insanely gorgeous I can’t believe the immaculate panoramic views you can get from this place. The paintings and art inside are definitely worth the trip, but the architecture and sunset views you can get from the stairwells and patios are just breathtaking. Go at sunset!
Judi Jordan
Go for the garden, not the exhibits.
And good luck finding a place to sit in the garden. Upstairs there's plenty of seating but less inspiration.
I've been here numerous times.
After 3pm the 20$ parking goes down to $15. On a Friday, l just missed 2 busloads of tourists so good timing. But!
I went for the Medieval exhibit.
A bit disappointed 🤔.
In my opinion, the Getty Center can do better. They promoted this medieval chivalry exhibit, and seriously, the 3 small rooms and entry with comic book covers and old games, Party City hats including a no-photos-allowed room with some costume drawings and an ancient book under glass, were a let down. Only the magic wands were a surprise. Go bigger and deeper, Getty!
Terry O'Sullivan
Wonderful place even if there were not any art to look at. Gardens spectacular. As well as the rightly famous garden in the middle that you can walk in, there is a cactus garden you can look at from on high. Art when we got to it was pretty good too
Ms K
We had a blast, really cool things. Amazing mountain view and some spectacular art collections. Love the garden.
Kellee B
What an amazing way to spend a sunny SoCal winter’s day. This place is huge. You can do it all in a day if you’re fast, but if you’re a local, I recommend breaking it out over multiple trips. One side of the complex faces the Pacific Coast and the other faces the city skylines and snow capped mountains. Pretty cool! Today I visited the West Pavilion, the Center Gardens, and the Sculpture Garden. I took my time and walked and enjoyed everything the museum offered.
To begin, I stood in awe of Van Gogh. Then spent some time staring at a Calder sculpture. I watched the waterfall that started at the top of the hill as it ran down across individually placed granite tiles into the pond at the center of the gardens. The grounds and the buildings are also impressive works of art. It is an experience, not just an art museum.
I suggest comfortable shoes and clothing layers. It was cool in the morning, but a gigantic white concrete structure attracts sunlight. It got warm.
It’s free, except for the $20 parking. I’m thinking it will likely take 2-3 more visits to see and enjoy and experience everything. Lots of people. I recommend getting your reservations early in the day. It will give you space to stand in awe in front of a Van Gogh. Or a Degas. Or a Renoir. Beautiful place!
Elaine Lim Kawsek
One of my favorite places in LA. We spent the whole afternoon there. So beautiful. Love the openness, the water, the views. one of the most beautiful places I've been to
Shaun Alexander (Fashion Photographer)
I love Getty for so many great reasons
1- It's free to get in
2-its an incredible museum
3-one of the world's most beautiful architectural wonders which is a must-see for anyone.
4-The view from top of the getting museum is breathtaking
5-wide array of art from Renaissance to modern as well as photography, sculptors and so much more all packed in one place for everyone to see and enjoy at no cost
I can keep going on and on about all the things that I love about Getty, and I do hear some people complain about the cost of parking at the Getty. We all fairness in most of the world's museums there is an admission fee for each person but in getting museum an entire family can come and pay only $10 to $20 and have a fantastic day at one of the most beautiful spots in Los Angeles which I think is very inexpensive way to spend some quality time with your friends and family
Alex Mendez
A must if visiting LA. World class museum. Amazing architecture, gardens, fountains etc… totally recommended.
Luke Daniel
We had a great time here! Truly an enriching and artistically vibrant environment. There is so much cultural and creative artistry on display, that you really need a whole day to completely soak it in. The architecture is phenomenal and enchanting. There are also places to unwind on the premises. If you’re in L.A., make this one of your “must see” pit stops! Highly recommended!
To NaN Or Not to Null
Great place to see some fantastic exhibits and hang out for the day. Need to also check out the Villa in Pacific Palisades as well -- two for one parking.
Uhnuh Buhnuhnuh
I love this place. I will definitely come back here again because I missed a lot of exhibits (we came here 2 hours before it closed) I highly recommended to download the app to listen to the audio especially when you are walking the garden
Ember Shen
I’m not really an artistic person.
But the place is huge, clean, impressive.
Remember to reserve your slot online in advance. We were lucky that we came early and they just let us in.
Keith K
We've visited the Getty many times over the years and always enjoyed it. The only negative from this visit was that the main cafeteria was closed to the public, so we had to eat at the Terrace Cafe. The tables were outside and it was cold and windy that day, so it was not ideal.
Nisha
A must see. Great local-ish getaway. Admission is free and $20 to park. Beautiful art and I loved the garden area. We will be back!
CHI
The Getty is amazing! They have many artworks and painting. Here is free to visit, only need to pay the parking fee. Love The Getty. ❤️
sa 123
Loved the location of the museum high above the freeway woth a view of beverly hills, its gardens and architecture. A mini train takes you up the hill. And of course the exhibits are interesting. I never have enough tine to see all of it.
Aaron Belbeck
Arrived and made it for our trolley appointment, after we were inside we checked each building and the gardens in about four hours. The food is great and prices are what we expected, not bad, but not low either. Gorgeous setup, plenty of staff, must see!
Wendy Danbury
My friends and I visited the Getty Museum in the morning, and left around 1:30 to visit the Getty Villa in the afternoon. We weren't able to see all the exhibits that we wanted to, but I was really happy to see Van Gogh's Irises, Alma-Tadema's Spring, and a few other favorites before strolling around the gardens for over an hour. We took tons of photos and enjoyed the beautiful weather. We'll definitely be back!
Martin Henry
Its easy to forget that we are blessed in Southern California to have the Getty Museum in our backyard. I recently spent an afternoon there and had a wonderful time.
Jasper Celens
Probably the most beautiful museum I've ever been to. Everything was taken care of. You park your car in a huge underground parking, from where a little tram leaves to take you to the museum itself.
The museum features a gorgeous garden and multiple buildings with varying types of art. Kind of sad the museum doesn't have more recent/modern artworks, the newest ones are from the early 20th century. I'd love to see some (post)modern art there as well. I got to see the older (European) paintings. The most popular one is by far Irises by Van Gogh.
You'd have to spent more than half a day in the museum if you wanted to see everything, for sure. The architecture of the museum itself is futuristic and very unique. It also offers a small café/bar stand which offers drinks and snacks for pretty cheap.
Since the museum is free and the café inside is really cheap, I'd really recommend it if you were to be in the area.
Louis Ebarb
One of the finest museums un the United States, the permanent collection and the special exhibitions are world class presented in a beautiful Richard Meier designed building on a dramatic hill top setting.
Anton Korolev
Beautiful blend of architecture, nature, and art. I could spend a whole day here exploring and taking it all in. Very helpful staff and a restaurant with a nice culinary experience.
Chumly Fernando
Amazing, totally worth the trip. There's a ton of art indoors & outdoors, and amazing outdoor space to walk through. 10/10 would recommend.
During COVID, you will have to book a (free) ticket in advance of coming in and pick a timeslot.
Tickets are free, but parking is $20 in their structure
Rochelle J.
Went there on a Thursday, not extremely busy. Tram had broke down, but they were problem solvers and had us take a bus to the museum from the parking lot. Beautiful museum, kept immaculate, glad I went!
Gleeful TreeFrog
Beautiful location. We took the architecture and garden tours. Pay $20 for parking. Free admittance to everything else. Decent cafeteria food.
I Am
The Getty is a life experience every time I come here. Perched on a hilltop overlooking the city this beautiful edifice to art and culture shines as a platinum white treasure of LA. Her bosom brimming full with beautiful garden pathways accented with stylized water attractions and inspiring architecture make for an exciting outdoor experience. As for what you'll find inside the hallowed halls of this institution is of great substance. Divine examples of human expression manifest in artistic brilliance. This is somewhere that is very special I would recommend heartily to anyone. I would suggest having plenty of time to see the exhibits but even if you're only here for a short while I'm sure the majesty of this place will resonate with you.
David Aldana
Amazing, breathtaking. The views are unique and maybe the best part is that it is free! A must-go if you’re visiting LA
Judy Niturada
FREE to visit. Take all the videos and pictures you want. Awesome place to visit. So many things to see all day. Very clean and staff are very helpful. I love riding the tran, you get to see the view of 405 freeway.

The Getty is an art museum where you get to see various paintings and sculptures. It is a great place to visit with family.
Below are some tips:
* While it's free to get in, you need to make reservations. This allows them to control the amount of people going in.
* The place does not get very crowded so it is easy to get same day reservations, however keep checking their website as early morning slots go fast.
* Parking is located away and you have to pay $20 to park. They provide free tram to get to Getty.
* Getty is known for their garden so good to start there and then go inside the buildings to cool off and view the paintings and sculptures.
* They have a big dining area in the middle and small Cafe to get food.
* Located at an elevation, Getty can get hot while walking outside. Keep extra water.
* You can get good view of the city from higher floors.
* Building has very good architecture.
Overall great place to go with family, especially if you enjoy garden, paintings, and sculptures.
Ray Frohnhoefer
One of the top free things to do in LA. Beautiful indoors and outdoors. Due to so many people from around the world visiting, you have to make an online reservation and have a photo ID and vaccination card or proof of negative test.
Sara Scanlan
Even with the cold rain, our family of 3 had a lovely time exploring inside and out. Amazing that it's free. The center even provides umbrellas to borrow.
Gilberto Ramirez
So much to see and do here! I had a blast exploring the grounds. Beautiful garden landscapes, architecture, views and exhibits. Free to enter the premise, but $20 for parking.
Andrew Wang
Amazing experience. Gallery is filled with art of the times and the garden is amazing. Make sure to reserve ahead of time to beat the crowd!
garit reuble
This place is amazing. First time visiting and fell in love with the outdoor spaces. Relaxing, calm and good way to spend a couple hours on a Sunday.
Nima Sarrafi
If you are in to see a great architecture, great museum of contemporary art, and great view of LA, definitely give this place a try.
Ticket is free and you only need to pay for the parking.
Jax Kellington
Had such an amazing time here!!! Though my friend and I showed up a half hour before they closed stuffing our brains with as much historic info as possible, the staff was so kind to let us run around taking all the pictures real fast and giving us a little extra time to explore! Such awesome vibes and so beautiful! I wish we had more time. We def wouldve gotten lost into the art for sure!
Elizabeth G
Loved this place. I would recommend bringing a little picnic and you can enjoy yourself with a book or company. The sunset was also really nice here. I came here for the architecture, the views, and the outside environment. It’s free to get in you just need a reservation and parking is $20. Once you check in and they make sure you’re vaccinated you take a tram up to the Getty.
Milani Cruz
So much fun! Free during the week! ( I don’t know about the weekend ) But when we went it was super cool! Had an awesome time and even though the weather was pretty bad, we were able to experience every section of the museum. Staff was so helpful, and the environment was 10/10. Can’t wait to come back!
Jenny Bahling
Very clean and interesting museum! Recommend the West pavilion and the gardens! Its not far to walk to the museum and skip the lines for the tram going to the museum. Line wasn't long on the way back and they give people umbrellas for the walk.
Lauren Cho
The Getty is such a beautiful museum. I visited here over their 25th anniversary, so i got there early to avoid parking dilemmas or overcrowding. Just getting to the museum is an experience in itself. After riding a train up, or taking a scenic walk, you are bombarded with massive, modern building, each holding a different type of art. I found the European painting section of The Getty to be quite impressive to say the least.
Susanna SS
This is a mid size museum boasting stunning architecture and gardens. “Conserving de Kooning” is very interesting. The limited exhibit “Powder and Light: Pastels of Late 19th Century” is a must see.
Naomi Wei
This is an art museum with about eight pavilion, one cafeteria and fine dining restaurant and an education center. When you get closer to the museum a carrier commuter train guide you to museum which sits on top of the hill. The main concrete and white marble steps in the front of museum look so classic and charm. Major exhibitions are collections of painting, furniture, vases and sculpture.
Stephany Herrera
This museum it’s amazing, I strongly recommend to take a map with you during your visit, it’s easy to get lost, make your plan to see every highlight of the museum, during weekends it’s more crowded but you still can walk around, now you have to make a reservation for your visit, don’t forget to walk around the garden and relax there, the collection is huge and really cool, I love the store and they have nice stuff
Hope Greenleaf
Gorgeous grounds and views! Plenty of variety for the indoor exhibits. The best part is that you can buy snacks, drinks, wine, and coffee to enjoy while you checkout the gardens. Go at sunset, take all your ig pics!
Deborah Lynn
Where do I begin? Omg!!!! SO WONDERFUL!!!!! ALWAYS! The antiquities are phenomenal! The artwork will take your breath away. The gardens are so lovely!!! I love seeing things that Marie Antoinette owned!!!!!!!!
Mahalo 6
Beautiful views and garden.
Lots of interesting displays and great guides to show you around.
We had a great time, highly recommend.
Pelle Lindgren
Really nice place to visit. Liked the outside much more than the inside. No admission but you pay for parking
Sean Pregame Pratt “Seanwiches”
I absolutely love this place, what a great inexpensive experience! The presentation is top notch, the staff is so friendly and there’s so much to see. Make sure you wear walking shoes!
Allison Rossi
I think I prefer the Getty Villa, but overall my experience here was great. They have a lovely array of art here.
My favorite was the sculptures. The collection they have curated there was wonderful and I recommend going there at the very least if you're short on time.
Shreya Chakraborty
Have long wanted to go, and finally when I did, it so did not disappoint! The West End Pavillion was closed when I went, but some of the 19th century paintings had been shifted to a new exhibit called Getty Highlights, so I could still see Van Gogh's Irises! The building is huge and if you're a true fan of paintings, you'll probably need multiple visits to cover it all. The views are equally nice, and the garden especially is a lovely place to catch some sun and relax.
Note: During Covid, they advice you to buy tickets beforehand, since they don't always allow walk-ins.
T J
Don’t miss out! This place is Amazing! $20 for parking. Free entry into museum. You park, then take a tram to the top. Everyone working there is so very nice and welcoming!!! The place is gorgeous! Not everything was open when I went, a good reason to go back! The gated is small, but has so much packed in. I’ll add photos of both the center and the garden. Be sure and make a free reservation online! Limited due to pandemic. Masks worn at all times. Don’t go if you don’t want to follow the rules. There is a lot of security. The security people were also very nice, but they have hard jobs. Lots of people were breaking the rules and getting called out. I appreciated the safe environment. The place is pristine and it takes a great team to keep it that way.
Ernesto Cisneros
Wow! Just wow.
So a couple of things first
1 it's free -> tourists looking to take a break from the parks this is your place
2 -> amazing exhibitions that'll marvel you
3 -> great for photo sessions to impress your friends
4 -> the gardens are astonishing
Fantastic view
We spent about 4 hours and didn't finish covering all it has to offer. So if you're in a tight schedule think about which exhibitions are with your time.
Be prepared with nice walking shoes because you'll be doing a lot of that.
Bring your own water containers you can refill inside.
You won't regret visiting the Getty center
John
Loved the Getty. Booked a 3:30 time slot (it’s free, but required) and got some beautiful pictures as the sun went down around 5pm.
David Adams
This was my second visit; the first was many years ago. It's kind of a drive for us but it's wonderful that admission is free and that there's a shuttle to and from the parking structure. PLUS they had free charging for my Volt. That's awesome.
So much wonderful art to see. You really need a couple of days to see it all. And the grounds are quite beautiful too.
Cynthia Moumdjian
Great place for a visit and walk around with great views. Even if you’re not into art or sculptures it’s still a nice place to visit. There’s even little coffee carts that sell coffee and pastries.
John Mooren
Beautiful building(s), some very impressive art (including a range of impressionists) and a wonderful garden. A real gem.
Bram Floria
Wonderful day, and DEEPLY disappointed that the Impressionists exhibit was closed for the day. We'll have to make another trip to CA.... It's free, but the parking will cost you plenty. Food is pretty good with airport prices. Come for the views if nothing else!
Eli Livshitz
Totally amazing!!! Huge place, magnificent architecture, great art collection, fantastic views. Leaves an impression more than Louvre or Hermitage!
Jack Vento
Just a gorgeous location and beautiful museum. Parking was simply but expensive. Museum was spectacular, all staff was super friendly and helpful.
Angela Nguyen
Such an amazing place, I can’t believe it’s free! The architecture and art will blow you away! Definitely a must visit in LA
Tim Goodman
Beautiful view and paintings. Work days are not so busy but still a lot of people. Remember to make appointment first.
Mahmoud MUK. (Architecto)
It's a fabulous experience visiting this place.
As a tourist, coming here will not be your first or prior choice, but if you have the time, don't miss this place.
I was shocked when I knew that it's free to visit, because there is many museums and exhibition in los angeles have expensive tickets to buy, and less luxury and items to show in comparison with the Getty. The parking is not free by the way, it will cost 20$
If you are into art, this is the right place for since it has many paintings for Van gogh and monte and many others.
And if you're not into art, this place still a great place to visit, walking around Palace and taking the tram and watch the city over the hill, and see the different kind of marvellous plants the Palace has, will also be a visit to remember.
Nicole Duran
Lots of smaller kids on the weekend. They crowd the pictures with strollers which is annoying and this really is a museum for older kids. The exhibitions are great and so is the garden.
Yoram E
Beautiful museum and grounds. Perfect for a date and getting out of the city when you’re still in it 🙌🏽
smudgeartkid
A must experience for enjoyers of culture and panoramic LA county sky lines. The tram itself is almost worth the $0 free tickets and $20 parking fee. Inside adorably touristy music is played while on an impressive ride up the mountain side. When you board, sit on the side opposite the waiting platform to see the best views without contorting your body.
The exterior of the Getty is truly impressive. Architecture, views, plant-life, all of it. Though, I was surprised to see so few sculptures those of which were in designated areas.
Most areas were not crowded when I went - a weekday on off season. However, if you plan on an unobstructed view of one of the collection's most famous pieces - Van Gogh's Irises - plan to wait.
If you are an art novice or want to dig deeper into the art, I'd recommend downloading the Getty app with the audio. The Getty does have kid activity guides (detective game) in the front lobby.
Terri Bonow
The Getty Center in Brentwood is celebrating it's 25th anniversary in 2022. The open air and travertine marble architecture designed by Richard Meier, is stunning and reflects the southern light with a more illuminated campus. It's a large area with buildings, court yards and with a cafe, upscale restaurant, and food carts. Sculpture, famous European paintings from 1300's-1800's are on exhibit. There are excellent and supremely popular and renowned pieces art on display. The stroll through the neat and organized garden revealed baby ducks!
T C
Nice place to spend time with friends and family. A lot to offer in terms of architecture, gardens, sculpture and paintings.
maggie kamen
Absolutely loved, the options of art are fantastic. But for those not wanting to spend the day staring at traditional art, the gardens provide a beautiful view and look over the city and mountains if you are just looking for somewhere for pictures.
Dezmon Green
Go on the website and get your free tickets (reservation) in advance; the catch is $20 to park. If you are looking to spend half your day on top of LA in luxury, this is the place to be! It felt like walking inside a billionaire mansion.
Helen Martindale
It was fabulous once I got there but getting there by bus was horrible. Road work had closed the off ramp when we tried by car. My photo seems to show one tree, but looks can be deceiving.
Marcus Davis
Great place to see some Renaissance paintings sculptures with some newer and some older things also.
On top of that the grounds are very interesting with interesting architecture and some gardens and such to walk around in.
Gift shop has plenty to choose from, some magnets, books, art sets, knick knacks, toys, music boxes, time pieces, and some small sculptures... You shouldn't have a problem leaving with something you love.
Loved going here.
MARY ANNE LAROYA
Dont plan to stay here for 3 hours or less. Think of it as a whole day trip for you to be able to enjoy every corner and every piece.
You're feet will hurt from walking a lot but it's worthwhile
Visitors have to option to get to actual museum are 20+mins walk up hill OR 4mins tram(train)

We scheduled early tickets for the Mayan codice exhibition which turned out to be a good choice since it got really crowded in the afternoon.
Also the view of the coast line is amazing from up there.
Masoud Baikpour
It is recommended to make reservations before your visit! The reservation is free and the only fee you need to pay is the $20 for the parking! You take the tram from the parking to the center! The buildings and gardens are outstanding with and amazing view of the city, and the galleries are fantastic! Very nice and knowledgeable staff!
David Nix
Absolutely fantastic experience and I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting LA, or even to LA natives who may have not had the chance to go. Spectacular views, magnificent gardens, stunning design, and exquisite artwork combine to make this destination ethereal. I should also mention that every staff member that we interacted with from the traffic-directors to the docents were knowledgeable and very friendly!
Kathy Condon
Many years ago visited the Getty Museum. Thus, yesterday's visit was quite the surprise.
Soo many buildings have been added. Just walking and observing the architecture is an extraordinary experience.
Park your car, then take the tram to the top...or you can take the 20-minute walk
Head to their website for special exhibits. However, the Getty collection has more than enough to satisfy any art enthusiast.

I love the Getty, it is huge. There are a few buildings, upstairs and downstairs full of art, balconies and outside walkways with great views. Gardens are beautiful, architecture is great.
The place is well staffed, staff is helpful.
There are plenty of paintings and sculptures to enjoy.
You need to make a reservation, no walk ins.
Isidora P.
A beautiful place indoors and outdoors. Fantastic collection of art, paintings and sculptures. Lovely gardens. A must visit place.
Gem L.
It’s a cool place and highly recommend to visit. Staff are super nice :) The scupltures and paintings are also good to check. The garden is good too if you want to have a little walk.
Ulf Källström
Arcitecture tour was very interesting and fun. The buildings are worth the visit. Then you have the Museum as dessert
Nance Calderon
The most amazing trip to a Museum the location day was simply so great to experience with friends so much beauty to take in.🤗💛🏵
Max Carlson
First time visiting inside, have seen it and drive past the Getty many times. We did a team building event that was both a lot of fun and informative. The grounds were so well taken care of, and the space to appreciate the art was perfect. What a nice mix if indoor and outdoor!
Alejandro Foucault Monterrey
The Getty is one of L.A.'s best gems for sure. The place is FREE! (except for the parking but that's a reasonable thing to ask for). The tram that takes you from the parking structure to the museum has A/C and pleasant elevator music playing in the background. The actual Getty campus is big, beautiful, spacious, pleasant to be in and it has one of the most gorgeous gardens you could find in all of SoCal. There are various pavilions with many exhibits and it would take you around 3 hours to see them all at a reasonable pace. Truly a 100% recommended destination, whether you're a tourist or a local.
Anne Loshuk
A great place to visit. Beautiful gardens, amazing artwork and sculptures, interesting architecture, and it’s all fee. The entry is timed and so it’s better to get your tickets online and choose the time you wish to enter.
Danny Cheng
There are two ways to get to the Getty museum once you park your car in the pay parking garage. One way is by tram and the other is walk up. If you go by tram you would have get in a long line for security check and wait for the tram.
The Getty has fantastic view of Los Angeles and many priceless paintings and works of art. Depending on how detail you browse the collection, it can take half day to a full day.
Lubella Gauna
So mad because two of the buildings were closed. I really love it when they bring antique furniture. This time i didnt get to see that.
U need to make a reservation. Proof of negative covid test to enter
Harald Ade
Second time. After 20 years. This time with my 💘. Just stunning again. It's the architecture and the gardens that make this place so special. So many great angles. Pictures just can't capture the magic of this place. The exhibits are only so-so. Some great individual pieces. Would have loved though to also see some modern and contemporary art. Still, this should be on the bucket list of anybody interested in architecture.
Trang Le
You can see a spectacular view from the top of the museum. Great place to visit at LA.
GARD
I’m not an art person but I love to walk around Getty time to time with my friends. Art installations differs during the year then I highly recommend to get a map in a main lobby and visit botanical garden 🪴
hcbekardi
Just as amazing as I remember it from 5 years ago. It’s free such great exhibitions. Parking is $20, the staff is super friendly. This is a perfect place to watch the sunset.
Raunak Pandey
Great view of LA and an incredible location to see otherwise. Admission is free, but parking 1 hour + costs money.
Edgardo Sosa
Amazing! The architecture is one of the greatest artworks. It perfectly blends the tensions of modern and ancient as well as the other tensions.
Stacey Massola
Had a wonderful time visiting the museum. Everything was amazing from the tram ride up, the exhibits, the best lunch in the restaurant (really appreciated the gluten free alternative for the complimentary bread), and the wonderful gift shop where I purchased Christmas gifts.
Christine Pham
So much to see as a first time goer and definitely worth many visits in the future. Looks great now in the garden since Spring season is upon us.
oceanicthai1
Amazing.
A stunning setting for a museum, impressive modern stone architecture, great shots of the city from its balconies. The tram up is well organized and clean.
The gardens and water features are lovely.
The furniture collection had many unusual and gorgeous pieces from Europe, mainly France. They were in excellent condition. The sculptures were interesting. The Romantic era paintings were beautiful.
Everything is clean and maintained well.
You can buy affordable coffee and sandwiches from kiosks.
Parking is only $15
Entry is free
An absolute must see of this city.
David Taylor
A truly inspiring place to enjoy some family time. Gardens, gallery and cafe were all great and booking tickets was super easy on the day.
Sol “Papyrus” Badnews
It's a beautiful building! It's all European art, which I'm not really interested in.
Parking, food, and gifts are expensive, while it's free it get in.
Juancnustes
Great place to visit and walk around, the entrance is free with reservation but the parking costs $25. All very clean and well maintained. Incredible views of Santa Monica and great art galleried, highly recommend to visit.
Austin Rosenthal
I visited Los Angeles earlier in November 2021 for a five-day getaway.
On my first day of excursions, I visited The Getty, which was on my bucket list, as I am a huge art and architecture fan.
Since I did not have a rental car, I took an Uber, which conveniently dropped me off at the main check-in area, which is a tram ride or 20-minute uphill hike away from the actual museum property.
Los Angeles has rolled out new COVID-19 restrictions and we needed to show our vaccination cards to enter. Masks were mandatory except for in outdoor spaces. Admission is free, but it is a timed entry so get your tickets in advance using their website (Google "Getty Center" for tickets).
We then boarded the tram after stepping through a metal detector. About three minutes later, your tram pulls you onto the premises.
Currently, the West Wing is under construction, but my friend and I enjoyed seeing both the permanent collection in the other wings as well as the special exhibit on Hans Holbein the Younger, who was the royal portraitist of the court of English King Henry XIII.
After perusing the galleries for a few hours, we toured the grounds and the sculpture garden. Many people were relaxing on the beautiful green lawn or enjoying a quiet moment in the gardens, which include a spectacular water feature (my pictures are included in this review).
I went on a Thursday afternoon and there were no lines, and the premises was not crowded. I am not sure for how much longer that will be until things get back to normal.
However, if you have a half a day or less to spend and happen to be in the area of the Getty Center, it is definitely worth a visit.
J M
Must visit. The architecture of this place is fenomenal and the people that work there are very nice and well trained. Very recommended to visit if you come to LA. Plan 2.5-3 hours for this visit.
Lesli K
Beautiful museum showcasing classic artists and their craft. Let's also mention the botanical garden with a variety of flora and spectacular views! Don't miss Van Gogh's Irises. It is located in a room all by itself for viewing. From my experience in Chicago, these rooms fill up quickly because of the iconic post impressionist artists.
Daniel Nesbitt
What can I say, really? The Getty is meant to be seen and experienced in person.
Reservations were very easy to make on the website. Parking was easy to find even among the crowds.
The staff made it easy to check in and board the tram up to the Getty Museum.
Once we arrived at the Getty off of the tram, we began exploring various exhibits and outdoor spaces. The coffee bar offered a snack for all family members.
The grounds were very well kept and clean.
I recommend a trip to the Getty whenever possible.
Silvia Spross
The Getty Museum is one of my favorite buildings in LA. Someone told me once, if you're feeling down go to a museum, it will make you feel better. This is the place. Love the architecture using limestone, glass and metal. Impressionists exhibit is a must see.
Jeffrey He
Beautiful architecture and a lot of art! Will take many days to see all of the exhibits.
Karma C
Very worth spending some time at the Getty museum. Very lovely so beautiful.
DOHC 106
A clean, modern, and thoroughly immersing experience touching on the conservative, liberal, religious, and categories I can't truly capture in this review. I have almost 90 pictures, but can only post about half. So many views even of the cities, cafes, and beautiful green spaces providing a relaxing obeisance welcoming everyone 😀 including my family 👪. I tried as much as I could to take a picture of the art and the information plac, but its a lot of art to take in and this is my first visit 👍. The Getty is truly an icon.
Ash
I love this museum so much! It's so beautiful, so peaceful. Masks are required indoors, not outdoors. Many people were wearing them still in the garden. Very polite :). Lovely staff. Great time to visit is in the summer :).
Andrew
Very nice and expansive free art museum, the garden is amazing as well.
fabbers hc
The tram ride up was wonderful!!! Amazing views. Definitely recommend taking the tram if you’re going up there. Also loved the music they played during the ride, it created the perfect ambience.
Henk - the Netherlands
Free admission, but USD 20,00 to park your car. Beautiful museum. The art is nice, but the museum itself is of an astonishing beauty. Perfect gardens and gorgeous buildings.
Dan Quine
Utterly extraordinary architecture, worth visiting just for this and the breathtaking views. The art is sublime, though I would have preferred more modern pieces which would match the surroundings more. But, a must-see if you are visiting LA.
Jose Luis Rivera
Love this museum and a go to place to visit when I have friends/family in town. Definitely recommend getting tickets in advance (they are Free!). You only have to pay for parking ($20 till 3pm; 3pm-6pm is $15; 6pm-close is $10).
tax men
Art, not everyone, including myself know about it, this is the place where art manifest itself from the time you arrived
Choosing being at the top of a mountain from where you can see land and sea it's an experience in itself
On top of it it's FREE!!
We angelinos should be grateful to host one of the most incredible museums in the world
Even during this pandemic the place it's so inviting that for a few hours you can forget about the Nad and get immersed in culture with high hopes for a brighter future
If you have not visited, do reward yourself and make an appointment
Yourself will forever be thankful
Phradoe Banas
Truly an experience everyone should try at least once. I'm not one for museums, but The Getty is a must see. Countless works of art, sculptures, and exhibitions worth having a look-see.
Located on top of one of a California hill, this museum overlooks Los Angeles with plenty of overlook picture opportunities. The staff was informative and friendly. Due to post-pandemic environment, online reservations are required. Parking is $20. A tram is used to get to the top of the facility. Bring sunglasses because the place is bright white and with the sun shining it feels like the sun shining after a snowstorm on your eyes and all you can do it explain to your friends that the sun is burning your eyes and not the detailed Rembrandt paintings making you dig into your bag of feelings
nathan bond
We had such a great time at The Getty! The paintings 🖼, the garden, just the atmosphere itself was filled with positive energy! It was my 1st visit but my wife and daughter had been before. We plan on visiting the Getty Villa next in Malibu, looking forward to it! If you have never visited The Getty, I highly recommend it!! …
Dan Gentilucci
Beautiful museum for all ages. Free to visit- you only pay for parking.
Prthush Prakash
A place filled with full of interesting artefacts, amusing stuffs and information. A must visit for museum lovers and for those who love paintings
Jodi Day
Amazing place to spend the afternoon. Free admission but parking is $15-$20. If you have an electric car, you can charge for free.
You also need to reserve an arrival time before going.
Wook Chung
This is truly a special place. I would give it 10 stars if I could. Amid the busy lives in LA, there is the Getty, a sanctuary for your body and mind. It's calm, it is peaceful. And you get to enjoy unparalleled art and culture. The design of the buildings themselves is art. Everything is in order. It cleanses your mind and allows your to escape from this world. All of this, for FREE. Yes, there is a $20 parking fee but that is not even worth mentioning given the value you get from this art gallery / museum/ sanctuary.
Grab your loved ones. Grab a full day. Reserve and enjoy the Getty. Eat at the Cafe. Marvel at the views. Assimilate with the architecture and enjoy Gogh's Iris. You cannot ask for more.
All I can say is Thank You to the Getty foundation for providing this for the community and people.
S Kopp
Beautiful visit, started with a calm tram ride up the hill with beautiful views. They offer various free tours, which are very informative and great to show you around.
Spend more than 5 hours and did not see all.
Great buildings and gardens, a must visit if you are in the area!
Free entry, underground parking is 20 $ for the whole day.
Make sure to reserve your time slot a day or two ahead of time.
Jinson A V
Its an amazing place for art lovers. So many great paintings are available
Lesly Tafoya
Beautiful art work, mostly indoors nice and cool. Can’t believe that the entry is free
Jason Brier
Excellent exhibition of hand drawing and diagrams on human anatomy. Old man Getty also seemed to have a perfect eye for the impressionist masters. Make sure to check out the Degas, Rembrandts and Monets!!
Ms. Someone

The cheapest and most impressive museum you can visit in Los Angeles. Yes those things are somehow not mutually exclusive!
Admission is free but parking is $20, so get a carpool together and bring some friends for a cheap date!
The permanent collection is amazing and I highly recommend multiple visits to really soak in everything the space has to offer.
But bring your own snacks and drinks. The food here is both not great and very expensive.
Niikos
Awesome. Not only incredible work on display, but seriously just such an amazing environment. Absolutely the highlight of my visit in LA. Only wish I could have spent another day enjoying this beautiful museum.
Ali
It takes about 2 full days to fully soak in every part and exhibit reading all of the narrations and enjoy the grounds. Truly a national treasure. I was only there for 3.5 hours I can't wait to return
Mike Cover
This is an amazing piece of architecture. From all angles. Even the lower building but I think overall is pretty amazing. All and all it’s worth the trip and worth going to see the amazing views from the top. It’s a mist visit when in LA.
Juls Vidal
Had a great time with my daughter at Getty Center. Currently you have to book tickets since the entry is timed due covid 19 protocols. The gardens are beautiful. We had a great time viewing all the amazing art. I think the best feature was the order food app. I liked that once I put my order I was sent a text letting me know it was ready. It worked seamlessly. The views of Los Angeles were amazing. My daughter enjoyed the tram ride.
Caili Wilk
A fabulous museum with art for everyone. Also gorgeous architectural build and fabulous views.
Onega Z
Nice place easily spend 4+ hours, free but require reservation. Parking is not free.

U must go there.
Especially garden part is my favorite 😍
Rajat Prakash
Gorgeous location. Great art selection displayed in a great environment. Good coffee and snack cart.
Cigal Shaham
Lots to do indoors and out. Gorgeous views of Los Angeles. Amazing paintings, photography, and sculpture. Beautiful architecture. Unique, gorgeous garden.
The only downside is the way, way overpriced food/drinks. $7.50 for a small soy latte, for example. $4.75 for a regular bottle of water.
Askia Underwood
Go see the Protest and Photo Flux exhibits! Add the Getty app to your phone and listen to the oration of each exhibit. Go early, plan to spend the day. Reservations are required. Parking is $20 befpre 3pm...$15

Amazing experience, great exhibits, fantastic grounds, friendly staff!! Must see!! #1 attraction in LA imo.
Entry is free, $20 parking fee all day. TOTALLY worth it, you can spend the entire day there!! Reservations online due to covid : Getty.edu
Rosa Ho
Nice place to hang around for the day, not to mention it’s free to enter, so be sure to book your tickets in advance. Staff is also very friendly and eager to help.
René Torres
An international hub for art, The Getty is a place where locals and travelers should always check out. Whether its for their art collection or their famous garden, there's something for everyone here.
Alexander Kuzyanov
what a place to visit! and it's free of charge. stunning garden and museum with paintings and sculptures
Dzmitry Mik
The most outstanding place of Art collection. I am really impressed by the location, architectural concept of the structure, uniqueness of Arts.
It is very authentic and luxurious place in the whole LA area!!!
The view is impressive and breathtaking.
I am glad that they are open now after a year of lockdown.
Staffers are super positive and polite.
The whole process is well organized and you feel safe and comfortable. Every your step is closely monitored and recommended by surveillance system.
Tickets are free now but you need to check in online and reserve your place and time.
Parking is $20.00 even (I do not know if they charge a fixed fee or an hourly rate, I’ve spent there 4 hours)
Highly recommended to visit if you live in LA area at least once. If you a visiting , this place is must see!
5 out of 5 stars ⭐️!!!

The Getty is EVERYTHING!! Free admission, stunning works of iconic art, awesome views of the city, doesn’t get any better.
Nicole Ng
Beautiful museum! Visiting from NYC and only had time to see the exterior of the museum but it was so beautiful. Can't wait to visit again.
Debmalya Sinha
This museum is an experience itself. It itself is an marvel of architecture. The entire experience is great. I loved the team ride that brings visitors from ground level to the museum level. Also. The courtyard and sculpture garden is also fascinating.
The displays are greatly diversified. I loved the paintings and photography exhibits the most. There's also an entire wing dedicated to Renaissance time Europe, which has some great collection.
Overall, I really liked the museum and exhibits.
Mel Urresta
Nice place
You’ll need at least 4 hours to enjoy all the art exhibitions
I loved the gardens
Stella lin
This is a Awesome Getty Museum! We definitely back next time if I visit again LA!!
Piano with Isla, Piano with a twist
Went with my whole family a few years ago and it was a great experience. Don’t really remember how much it costs but I do remember the views were stunning from the gardens and the paintings and statues were stunning. The outside area was very spacious and the whole gardens outside are awesome. I recommend going to the little side balcony with the flowers over looking the city and highway looking absolutely gorgeous. Definitely a great place to stop at!
William Lowery
Love this place... if you have not been, get up and Go! It's free (except for parking $15).
I love the architecture and landscape of this place. The garden and grass areas are great for a little picnic.
Of course the art is spectacular.. and they have changing exhibitions.
Check it out its worth a few hours of your life!
Nayo
Love the Getty , beautiful inside and out, the paintings, sculptures, and the gardens are delightful. If you've never been here visit asap !! There is No admission Fee, but you do need reservations , just a click away. Load up the car with friends, parking is less than Disneyland, 😆 pack a lunch or snacks for picnic on grassy area or enjoy the salads, sandwiches or wraps with plenty of seating in courtyard. Four buildings and lovely garden to explore and staff is friendly to point ya to nearest lavatory. Bring your walking shoes. Umbrellas are available to shield from the elements.
Angela Li
must bring vaccination card and reservation the park ahead. Nice please to hangout with friends and family, spacious outdoor and fantastic art.
Luba S
This museum is situated high in the mountains, overlooking a highway. Tickets are free to reserve online. Parking is $20. Park the car and the museum train takes you up the mountain. I loved the art collection, the architecture and location. A trip to the museum is an experience and we spent 3-4 hours there and left when it was closing.
George Jackson
We always love going to The Getty. It's been a few years so it all felt pretty new.
James McCarthy
It’s been said often and after my third trip here, perfection. A must visit and only a parking charge.
Ben Sameyah
Absolutely love coming here. They always have interesting art on display and it's always a pleasure walking through the garden. You can easily spend three to four hours here between admiring the art and enjoying the gardens. They also have a large lawn area to hang out and have picnics. Highly recommend.
Ray Torres
From the tram going up to the free museum with Italian stone materials for the extravagant architectural buildings to the furniture from King Louis XIV and art of several renown artists, the Getty is one of a kind the whole family will love!
Owen
Loved my experience here! I would say this was one of the best museums I've every been to. The views of the city are fantastic. The collection of art is huge. I loved that we were able to walk around with drinks in our hand.
milkcheesepotatoes (bigisme)
I visited the Getty for a second time this November and I don't regret it.
1st, the train ride is really fun.
The atmosphere is absolutely breathtaking, the garden area is so pretty.
It's so cool to see a big variety of art and you REALLY have to visit this place.
Really clean, nice people everywhere, and definitely will keep you entertained if you are really into the arts.
Brenda Johns
This was an excellent way to spend the day with family. Artwork was amazing & gardens were gorgeous. We wish we had more time but decided we would return to see more.
Sandra “La8again” Mac
We learned how to play music by tapping the several stone blocks around the entire complex. The art is spectacular and security everywhere... pack a lunch or buy from cafe and enjoy the exquisite scenery with people you love.
J L
The best museum in LA with spectacular view. Admission is free but you still need to pay for parking ($20). The museum has so many famous art pieces - very informative and interesting. Worth a day trip!
Steven Dawoud
Such an amazing experience, the place is huge, you can either ride the tram up the hill or have a 20 mins walk, plenty of shops and cafe’s, the view is spectacular! Plenty of art, monuments and paintings. You can chill at the garden or stay indoors. The place is also for free with plenty of parking spots. A must visit in Socal
Jessica Gillespie
Architecturally-stunning place! The flower and sculpture gardens are glorious to stroll through on any given day. The exhibit rooms are large and well curated. As you walk through, the experience feels personal and intimate. I went on a Saturday and never once felt like I was in a crowded place.
queenlilly11
Really pretty inside. Lots of art. Some didn't look real tbh. But who knows. I went with my bf for his birthday. We love the garden section. Beautiful flowers in there. Glad they had food stands and a cafe. There's a lot to walk, up and down stairs, different buildings. We didn't see it all so next time we will try. The little tram was fun. I always see it off the freeway. Relaxing time spent here.
Jungsoo Lee
It is one of the best place to visit. The ground is beautiful and well maintained. Great art pieces including Iris! You can easily spend few hours there.
EY
Spent 5 hr great time here. Really impressive with the collections, vibe, scenic views, etc.
ada huang
(the parking is combined with the
Getty villa, his home. If you go to both on the same day, you can save $20.00)
Loved it. Many things to see.
Jacob Skoda
A beautiful museum. Free admission, but 20 dollars for parking. Helpful and friendly attendants at the galleries. Can get busy, make a reservation on a rainy or cloudy day to avoid the crowds. Also has a gorgeous garden and outdoor cafe.
김단풍
Is it free?????!!!!
It’s not a waste even if I give $100.
It is full of beautiful sights such as architecture, awesome gardens, famous paintings
carly van daalen
If you're visiting LA, or even if you're from here, GO TO THE GETTY. It's absolutely gorgeous in the fall with the color change. Weekdays are less busy, and parking is cheaper after 3pm.
kristine B
Spectacular experience. Amazing views on tram ride. The grounds were amazing. We could have spent much more time exploring the outdoor gardens. Pleasantly surprised with the cafe--food and service were excellent and reasonably priced and the ambiance over the top. Can’t wait to go again.
Crystal Jackson
The 1st stop on my #solotravel to California.
I was there a good 3 hours, the museum has plenty of places to sit, food and drinks that you can purchase and photo ops around every corner.
Ashlie Thibeaux
Great first, second or third date.
Excellent views, wonderful exhibits and tours will make you love this place. It gets crowded with schools and groups so plan ahead. Tickets are free online so plan ahead, and you park and ride a tram to get up the hill.
Well worth a trip.
Todd Mowen
INCREDIBLE collection! And the garden I'm beautiful. Free museum but they charge for parking. A must see!! Restaurant and Cafe on site.
James Golden
Immaculate! The air is unlike any other art museum. It genuinely feels like touring a state of the art college campus. It's incredibly clean indoors and outside. Everything about visiting the Getty was an experience. The tram ride, the unmatched views of LA, and the artwork. It truly made my Saturday.
Being an LA resident and this being my first trip it was so affirming of just how amazing LA is. To have such a jewel in town is just a blessing. The King Louis XIV exhibit was great. Saw original Rembrandts amongst many other artists. I didn't get to tour the entire place in my 3.5 hour visit.. I'll be back!
Audrey C
It's a free museum and even if you had to pay, it would still be 100% worth it in my opinion!
We only paid 15$ for the parking (after 3pm it's 15$ but before it's 20$)! Be careful it closes at 5:30pm!
The museum is huge and its garden and modern architecture is absolutely stunning!
There are plenty of exhibitions with many sculptures, paintings, photographs from every era and artistic movement!
Natural light from the ceiling create a warm atmosphere and there are plenty of comfortable sofas for you to sit on if you're tired and want to be surrounded by art. Tables with chairs are also available all around the museum if you want to take a break near the beautiful garden or in the courtyard.
The museum shop was a bit small though haha
Lin Sanc
Amazing museum, but go with time to explore because there's a lot to see and the museum is huge!
They have a beautiful garden that you can rest by and take pictures.
If you are in a rush and can't see a bit of everything, I'd say definitely stop by Van Gogh's painting and the photography hall.
disney fan
Tickets are free and parking is only $20. This place is beyond beautiful and a lot to see has to be a return visit. They have tours you can sign up for or self guided tour. As a local or a tourist this is a must visit.
Mitch Orton
This is my favorite art museum in the Los Angeles area, no contest. Just plan your trip ahead of time and set aside the better part of the day to see everything.
Kris Sonntag
Gorgeous! The gardens alone are worth the trip. Then, an incredible collection of art and architecture is a glorious prize. Especially thrilled with the environmentally responsible cafe with delicious (if highly priced ) food.
Gloria Peterson
Great museum with lot of amazing paintings from internationally renowned artists.
Dorian Ness
Excellent location, exhibits, lounging areas and views. At the moment masks a required while indoors and optional outdoors. Admission is still free but parking is 20 bucks! You could spend the whole day here or an hour it's really up to you. I suggest come curious and don't touch nothing!
Cesarina Gretha Bosscher
Had such a great time spending the afternoon here in this beautiful museum. Have great memories wandering around all the gorgeous art in this modern museum. Easily could spend hours here. Went here in 2019 and I still remember the incredible view and how much I enjoyed being here. Loved how approachable it is and adored how art is made accessible for anyone with free entrance
Yesenia Liberato Bravo
Our experience at the Getty museum was amazing, I did not take any pictures but, we enjoyed it very much. If your at a budget you can bring your own food. They're will be seating areas to eat. There's also a gift shop.
While being at the Getty museum make sure to care your bag on one side on your shoulder or put your bag in the front, because security will say something I don't know why is that. But other than that everything was perfect 🎈🎈🎈
Joseph Sunderland
Had a great time and wish we could have seen more. What a great tribute to Getty's legacy to make so many wonderful works of art available for the punlic to see.
Eduardo Mace
This is a must go in LA. The permanent collection art is great, but the architecture, gardening and grounds are breathtaking, as can be seen in the photos.
Danny B.
The architecture is absolutely beautiful with breathing views! The art collection is very impressive.
Lanyi Chang
It's a day trip. Plan to be there early to avoid lines.
Planning to spend at least 3 hours to visit everything in the buildings. Comfortable shoes, layering clothing, sunscreen are important.
If you downloaded the audio app, bring your earphone and plan to spend more time to listen to the stories which is a great idea. And you could spend another 30 mins or an hour for garden and display.
Lots of seating area both indoors and outdoors. There are phone charger station, coat check, water fountains in the main building/ Museum entrance hall next to restroom.
Come early, and go to West Pavilion first before it gets crowded. Food can be ordered online, I didn't get a chance to try it, but I had a good 9000 steps during visit.
Pay parking ticket by tram stop or in the garage before you leave. There are two machines ,one for credit card, one for cash by the tram stop. I've heard from the parking attendant you should still able to pay to that machine if you lost your parking ticket, just follow the directions.
Parking ticket good for same day trip to Getty Villa, too. As long as you have same day reservation.
Such a beautiful day, it's totally worth it .
Varun Sharma
Beautiful stone work building, amazing views of the city, lovely garden as well. Plenty of pieces inside although separated by buildings so easy to miss some things. They've got a little food cart on site with coffee/teas and cold snacks. Parking is paid.
MTV
Can’t get enough of this museum, tickets are free, the parking is 20 dlls. You can bring your own snacks and water, also your camera to take pictures but please keep in mind that it needs to be with FLASH OFF; in matters of art you can appreciate from Italian paintings from 1300 to sculptures and art of 1940.
There’s a garden area that is perfect to have a picnic.

Very beautiful area and building. Bus stop right outside of it, not too far out of the city. The tram ride was incredible. I had a great time exploring all of the exhibits and art. I loved learning the history behind all the pieces.

Stunning artwork! Well organized facility! The garden and grounds was stunning! So well-maintained!
There is a cafeteria and cafe! We spent 4 hours there, and felt like we barely saw only 30-50% of all the exhibits! So much to see and enjoy! Would suggest going early in the morning so avoid crowds! The tram is nice and convenient from the parking garage to the Getty, and you get stunning city views of LA!

Love this place! All it cost is $20 parking. It is height up in the mountain and the view is great. Lots of space for the little one to run around in. The gass area is great for a nice nap or reading.
I personally think that the pandemic made this place even better....less people:).
They have a few food stand and cafe area. The food is good as well. A bit pricey, but it is what's expected.
They have great exhibits of famous historical arts/artists as well. What not to love. They also have lots of pretty flowers and plants. What not to love about this place!

The Getty center is a nice family type attraction.. you order your tickets online... then they scan them onsite, send you to team ride up a hill with gorgeous views of the city... once your up top. Theres stairs upon stairs and lots of walking to check out exhibits of artwork, sculptures, a beautiful garden with a maze in water, fountains, beautiful flower trees...and many, many buildings to walk and explore. Best feature is the views over the mountainside from several vantage points.

Very beautiful architecture. Wide open space to relax and enjoy the art. Nice little cafe and eatery. Highly recommend it!

It is much better than my expectation.
All the art works have a very well explained description next to it, which is a lot of help to understand the background and capture what is special. I spend 3hrs here and only get though a small portion of the contents. LA ppl are so fortunate to have this place.
Highly recommended over other tourist traps like Hollywood.
Be sure to reserve online and brings printed tickets and masks.

Beautiful museum and arts. Parking is $20, $15 after 3PM, but No entry fee 👍
For me, it’s a must see in LA. …

Free entrance. Beautiful and entertaining place to bring family and friends. You can learn so many things about art history. There are famous and important pieces in exhibition. The sights from Getty towards L.A downtown are awesome.

What can I say about the Getty that hasn't already been said? The only thing you pay for is parking, but you need a admission ticket to get in which is free online. The galleries are full of incredible art from modern times to medieval ages. The place itself is spectacular with a sweeping view of downtown LA. You ride a special monorail to get up to the museum and back down. Great gift shop! Talk to the docents, they are very bored.

Super nice to be up on the hill looking ancient art and awesome architecture

It is a beautiful place, with amazing landscapes. There is so much to explore and enjoy here and if you are able, anticipate on spending several hours here, especially if you enjoy looking at art! Pack some snacks and a blanket and enjoy a small picnic on their grass while taking in the views. I hope everyone gets a chance to visit!!
Expect to pay $20 for parking and the rest is free!

Beautiful garden, views and architecture. Not much diversity in the art on display. A lot of galleries were closed.

This museum was large, with many great exhibits. It was free when I went and we were able to be there for several hours enjoying it. There are also some lovely gardens to see outside and great views of the city. The staff was kind, knowledgeable, and happy to help patrons.

Impressive to visit on a multitude of levels! From the get-go, I felt the excitement for the greatness of which I was about to partake! The Getty Center turned out to be such a special place to see for myself or with others.
There’s the fantastic Richard Meier architecture, famous works of art from world renowned artists, landscape displays, state-of-the-art technology and towering views!
I’d recommend starting at the info desk in the entrance building, steps up from the top of the tram stop. There’s helpful guides and handout info with maps, in addition to whatever may have been seen or given out prior to the visit. Though some visitors are happy just to have a look without reference to anything in particular.
The grandness of the structures and walkways covered in Italian travertine stone are aesthetically synced with the natural surrounding landscape.
Keeping in mind that the complex is set in the hills of Brentwood and Bel Air, it’s no wonder the appeal is something extraordinary to live up to!
The interiors are beautifully appointed from floor to ceiling and the art within is among the best I’ve seen!
While I may have preferred to go at my leisure, I wanted to see as much as I could in the time I had.
I can say from experience, that a rapid, self-guided tour may be done in as little as one hour, which is barely enough time to read the descriptions, much less to include the gardens, let alone to walk thru a crowd! Two and a half to three hours may be average for groups who are on a schedule. Give at least four hours for the ultimate enjoyment in visual pleasure!
Still, even more time could be taken when taking a break at the cafe, or quick stop for munchies to eat, while sitting out on the patio enjoying that great ocean view!
I’m including separate reviews for the Getty Garage, Tram and Gardens for info on getting started and going around, continuing on with the Getty Center visit as desired. After all, here we’re on our own!

Very beautiful museum with many paintings and sculptures! 😍😍😍

Wow! We only had an hour before our ballet tickets, but it was wonderful. The latest art they have is around Impressionism, which is my favorite movement anyway. The buildings’ architecture was remarkable, the views great, and the staff and cleanliness impeccable. From our short stay I would definitely conclude a second visit would be worth at least a few hours.

Super fun experience at the Getty - highly recommended when in LA.
First, it's free (besides a minimal parking fee).
Second the garden, museum, and views of LA are amazing.
If those two things aren't reason enough to go, I'm not sure what is!

How much we missed this place! Got the tickets for 2:30 pm while it closed at 5pm. So this time we just went to the Garden. Beautiful... We hope to get another tickets in the near future so we can spend time indoor. Glad to see you again!
Cris L
Beautiful! It’s worth taking your time to slowly explore and get lost on the grounds...great way to take in the exhibits and the wonderful gardens!

Amazing place. All for free. But remember to get reservations online.

Pretty spectacular architecture with incredible stonework throughout exterior. Free tickets but $20 car parking. The artwork exhibited throughout is truly spectacular. If you like Renaissance and Impressionist paintings, the Getty is a must visit.

The ticket is free but parking cost $20. We spent 3 hours in there and was able to see most of the collections.

No entry without proof of Maxx or negative cov test. There is a restaurant and various kiosks for refreshments. Security will check any bags and there is a metal detector. Art is guarded with staff at every door way. General parking is $20. Free ticket required so make sure to register online before you come. Mask req. Indoors. Art from 1300-1900. This is the spot where Dave talks to you and Mayweather's henchmen come to take you out. Trevor is up above watching through the scope.

Art on a hilltop what more could you hope for.
The building the grounds and the work all inspire.

Great place and amazing staff, I didn't catch the name when I was there but a couple of the parking assistants were great, I had a lifted dually (oversize) they made sure to clear enough space for it along with set a cone behind it because it did stick into the isle a bit.
Also, upon leaving it was just barely enough space to get through the gate and one of the parking staff watched to make sure I was going to clear my blind spot. Like stated, great place with even better staff.

Up until today, I'd only seen pictures of The Getty. Pictures don't even tell half the story. The location, views, architecture and collections are all magnificent.
Jennifer
Amazing...every area offers beautiful and historic exhibits...friendly and informative staff. A great way to spend part of a day in LA!!

How could you give The Getty anything but five stars?! It is a unique thing, possible only when the world's richest man gives his entire fortune to his love of art and the facilities that have taken those funds and created something truly beautiful. Sure the Louvre, Smithsonian and Prado have amazing collections, but none have a setting like this one.
