Reviews of Atomic Museum
Bill G
Great museum detailing the history of atomic testing and the people involved. Regular admission rice was $24 for an adult but cheaper prices were available for certain criteria. There was a small theater halfway through with a ten minute video that included the experience of being near an atomic blast, complete with lights, sound and air pressure. We really enjoyed the museum and found a few items at the gift shop.

I love Groupon and I loved this museum. There was so much more than I anticipated, including pieces of the twin towers, a piece of the Berlin wall, educational info & photos of other testing sites, and even a copy of a letter that Albert Einstein wrote to President Roosevelt. This was really a great way to spend an afternoon!

Such a lovely museum! A must see during your stay in Vegas.
We used the Go City Pass to enter, which was really easy to use.
The museum itself is great, very informative and it's just fun to go through everything and learn more about Nevada's atomic history.
Andrew P
Visited using the GoCity pass. Cool little place that shows the history of Atomic testing. Definitely a non touristy thing to do in Vegas. Even touched a piece of the World Trade Center metal beam
Ambrose Kalifornia
So, this is a place that has been on the list for a while now. I'm a big fan of Peter Kuran's "Trinity and Beyond: The Atomic Bomb Movie." His work is like surrealistic art; like slow-motion watercolors painted with atomic fire. The beauty and awe of blossoming explosions set to orchestra distracts from the horror these weapons were created for, and created to fight. In some ways, this museum is guilty for this as well, with a great deal of information on the development of the weapon, but little on the actual effects. This was no doubt one of the crowning achievements in American Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics but there isn't quite as much to engage young people as I would have expected either. These are minor quibbles, though. This is a science museum and it is a FANTASTIC one. Leading you through the science behind and development of atomic weapons is it's mission and it does that well. There is so much information here that reading all of the exhibits would be like finishing and entire book on the subject material. There's bombs to pose with and a giant scale model of The Gadget. There are also a few hands-on encounters for more interactive learners. Lastly there is a fantastic representation of the history of the era in several respects, from period science cartoons playing on a loop to a well dressed 1940's mannequin family in a fallout shelter. There's even a bit about science fiction! And a giant robot! The most exciting part was definitely the atomic bomb ssimulator room, where it gives you some idea about what it would be like to actually be present at a test! It's a little scary for small children but it's a very cool part of the museum. I especially like the Las Vegas connection to the testing, as it's a little more lighthearted, and a good contrast to all the science and military hardware here. All and all, A+! It's an impressive building and a blissfully cool respite from the desert heat. Parking is also much easier than most of Vegas. The staff was super friendly and when I went there were other visitors but nothing like a crowd. I was also able to take advantage of the Museums For All discount. If you have the ability this museum is an absolute can't miss. And if you're on a road trip be sure to check out The National Museum of Nuclear Science and History in Albuquerque, New Mexico! No bomb simulator but it DOES have an Atomic Annie!

We’re the geeks who did the almost 2-mile walk from the Strip to wander through this museum for an hour and a half. This place presents the science and history of the Atomic Age in a way that’s approachable to most adults and older kids. It is not a huge facility, but they have many exhibits and videos to ponder. Of course, there’s a gift shop at the end.
Kim Dyreng
Dale and the rest of the staff here at the national atomic testing museum, were fantastic and took the tour to the next level! There was so much to check out. Their little dioramas were a lot of fun to look at. They have a little theater where you get to hear about others experience with atomic blasts as well as experience an atomic blast simulation that was pretty cool too.
Valued Customer
Pretty standard museum experience. Cool subject matter. Interesting films to watch but overall kinda short and not particularly interactive. Worth going once but not much repeat value imo.
Jolene Gustason
Informative about the history of the atomic bomb and its relation to Nevada. Very nicely laid out museum and gift shop. Be sure to use a groupon!!!!
Raymundo Guzman
It was a great collection of artifacts from the time, educational movies, and even got to speak to an engineer who worked at the testing site. The souvenir shop is reasonably priced with fun memorabilia.
Renee Oliveira
Really interesting. It's about the history of the Atomic bomb. The background of the steps taken to assemble and sacrifices made during the war. My 16 year old really enjoyed it. There's a lot of information. Even a gift store to visit. All non-profit.
Shirley Mendaros
This is a great place to learn history. The staff is really friendly. It's pretty cool to see a b-53
Julie Griffin
Very interesting museum! Very well done! Great exhibits. Fascinating story of how Las Vegas expanded due to the tourism of the atomic tests. Highly recommended!!
Chelsea Peterson
I really enjoyed the museum, it had a great layout and lots of interesting information we usually don't get to learn about. It's just heartbreaking we feel the need to still have these weapons knowing the destruction they cause.
Tom James
This museum was great. If you can't get a tour of the real test site this is a close, and much easier, second option. Very informative with lots of artifacts. Some volunteers were there that had worked at the test site and gave visitors background on the displays and personal stories. Very interesting and worth the visit if you're interested in nuclear history.
Kayla Perry
Fun to remember and learn more about the beginning of the atomic bombs! Relatively short. The video is fun! We only stayed about 40 minutes, but we did rush a bit because we got there at 2:10, and they closed at 3.
Free parking
Came with the Go City Las Vegas pass
Scott
Awesome museum, extremely detailed and educational on all things Atomic Testing related! LOTS to read about, and will easily take you multiple hours depending on how much reading you complete. They have a small gift shop, and a movie theater that simulates what it was like to see an atomic bomb. Lots of history about Las Vegas, as well as testing in general. Fascinating part of history and makes you see Vegas in a different light!
Holly R
First of all - get tickets through Groupon! This was a fantastic stop on our trip through Vegas. The museum was much larger than I expected, so allow at least 1.5 hours for your visit. Everyone over the age of about 11-12 will enjoy themselves, but younger if they have a particular interest in science.
Garry Kepes
There are a lot of things to see in Vagas. If you are a history buff or lived during any of the time periods, this is a must at some time of your vegas visit. Even thinking of the current 2022 events, the museum lends great nuclear knowledge of how we got here.
The Groupon discount is great, HOWEVER Groupon did not download the coupon to us after we paid for it.
Christopher Maldonado
Very interesting information about nuclear testing and weapons development. Staff was also very courteous and willing to answer questions.
Christopher Goes
Well worth the time and money if you have even a passing interest in the history of the cold war, our country's nuclear weapons program, or just like seeing modern history and engineering.
There are discounts for seniors, children, students, and Nevada residents (with ID).
Mark Brueschke
Second time there - well worth it and it’s close to the Strip. Gem of a museum. They talk about the overhyped German nuclear program when something about Yoshio Nishina along with N-Go and Ni-Go projects would be way more interesting though
Kyle Place
Incredible. This museum has a ton of historic artifacts and showcases a variety of scientific achievemts from an era of nuclear past. Self guided tour took about 1.5 hours, highly recommend if you are in the area!
Larry Keiss
Great place to spend a afternoon and learn all about the testing of the Atom bomb and hydrogen bomb and a lot more and information about the Cold War. It is very helpful in understanding the risk of a Nuclear War! 🙁 …
EverEddie
This is an absolute must-do when in Vegas this museum is well laid out and has a treasure trove of artifacts telling the story of nuclear development mostly in Nevada. Interactive exhibits, actual equipment bombs and geological artifacts. This museum tells an amazing story through several video stops and story boards. One gives you an ideas of what being near a detonation felt like, light wind and vibration. VERY informative and enlightening. They give you the facts and truth to explain an era and a technology that everyone should learn about.
This was a great museum and extremely well done. Age 10 and up will benefit the most. Great exhibits and staff. Again, a must do.
Darshan Dhillon
Wonderful experience must visit to know what these dirty weapons mean for humanity. Great things to know about nuclear facilities and see their testing videos
Michael Birnbaum
Loved it! Very interesting and informative!!! Nice too learn about the old Las Vegas!!!
Dianna Carlton
What a fantastic experience! This museum is packed with artifacts, replicas, displays, and even a few hands-on activities. And the staff is incredibly nice!
If you are taking a child I highly recommend giving them one of the printables to do while visiting. It kept my little one engaged and having fun far longer than I expected.
Richard Wiles
Great place and lots of very interesting video's and displays
Very nice museum and something to consider when visiting Vegas.
Amanda Bishop
Had a wonderful time with my Grandson. He's 12 and enjoyed learning about the Atomic Boom 💥 and Area 51
Shreya Sriram
The best thing in Las Vegas! Loved this museum! So informative and yet easy to follow! I wish I had more time in hand to spend more time here 😅 …
Joyce Chen
I got a pass with admission to the museum included, and I happened to find the museum was closed to the hotel I stayed, so I went. I thought I would not enjoy it because it sounded too scientific to me. But actually it was very informative and had every detail about history of atomic testing. I heard about the atomic bomb in the movie I watched in the Midway Museum, so when I started to read the stories in this museum, the facts were connected and made the history heavier. I was a bit rush but I still spent about 2 hours in it. If you would like to actually learn everything, you may plan more time. The museum surely was a place worth visiting in Las Vegas.
caishi11
It is MUCH cheaper to buy tickets through a Groupon. For two tickets combined, it was cheaper than the cost of one NV resident ticket.
Our highlight was talking with Dale Cox. He is so knowledgeable and tolerated my husband's questions about aliens.
His beautiful paintings can be seen throughout the museum.
I would definitely come back to visit. So many artifacts and neat info.
Brad Moffett
This museum is part of the Smithsonian network and we'll worth the visit. Wonderful exhibits and the history of the unusual era is well presented in a balanced fashion. Multiple videos viwwable at the museum are also available online, so that I'd you are short on time, you can sew what you missed later. Highly recommend!
Loves Traveling
Some great multi-media exhibits and well presented. Easy to enjoy on a self-guided basis. Make sure to experience the bunker room where you experience what it was like to see the blast - including the shaking and reverberations. Incredible! It's affiliation with the Smithsonian Institute really shows.
Dale Hammen
The National Atomic Testing Museum is one of the hidden gems for tourist looking for something to do while visiting in Las Vegas. It's truly worth the $29 to learn about mankind's struggle for peace and preservation of history. Many thanks to the employees (volunteers), donors and all the visionaries that made this public museum possible to help educate future generations. Job well done! :-)
Joshua Jones
Unbelievably well done museum, outstanding volunteers! This is an absolute must do if you're in Vegas.
Ethan Kessel
It's a nice place to visit if you want something that's off the beaten path and away from the Vegas crowds. Takes about 4 hours to make it through fully, so get there about 11 so you're done before closing time.
Alexander Fowlkes
For $24 I came in expecting much more. It's definitely a tourist stop, but if you actually have knowledge and enjoy the rich history of our countries many nuclear projects? This just doesn't meet low expectations.
From not going into the science of these marvels of science, the people who shaped the field, the difference between each of the types of bomb.
I've seen more radioactive material in an old lady's kitchen than here. A few pieces but not when I'd hope to see.
I think this museum has such high potential with some work. They are trying to get a new building so I have high hopes they can get some real fanatics to join their team and help improve the whole experience.
If left as is simply slicing the entry fee in half.
Hannah Andrus
This place was amazing!! It was one of the stops on the Go City pass but I would have paid full price for the tickets. Very cool exhibits and I learned a lot about the history of Nevada. Great for fans of Fallout.
Joseph Ladd
My favorite museum in town. The atomic history of southern Nevada is fascinating and worth remembering. And the atomic present is incredible too! So much to learn and appreciate here, one visit is not enough. I wouldn't bring small children here, as the exhibits are not geared towards very young audiences, but 10+ should enjoy it as much as the adults.
Michael Laity
Very cool museum. They had full scale models of certain nuclear devices, a ton of videos to watch and a lot of information. You can spend a few hours here just looking at everything. Had a great time, would recommend if you are into history, atomic testing, and museums.
Jonathan Wiggins
Informative and thought provoking. It will definitely fascinate, and trouble you, all at the same time. Would definitely recommend to anyone who wants to seen the science that built the modern world, and maybe take away some lesson about where we might head in the future.
Bryan Feliciano
Must see museum, and has alot of history! Really cool stuff inside and their gift shop was plenty of things to take home.
Denny Radford
This is an absolute must see if you come to visit the Las Vegas area. Learn about the history of the atomic bomb in the state of Nevada. Lots of great artifacts. Spectacular real life theater. Definitely I must see.
David Bishton
A blast (literally, in one exhibit) from the past. Educational on the above ground & underground weapons testing that occurred following WWII both at sea and on the doorstep of Las Vegas (!) until the comprehensive test ban treaty of 1990's. Culture of the 50's and 60's also on display. Many artifacts, from the real to the surreal.
While being educated, be prepared for Cold War emphasis and a bit of the associated communist menace paranoia. Gave our party reason to leave a bit sooner. Think of Dr. Strangelove.
Vybhav Dhar
Superb place to visit to know the entire history of nuclear bomb testings in Nevada area, the devices used, the science behind, as well as, the Ill effect human on human health on nearby communities and nuclear veterans. The simulator is really awesome. A must see with kids.
Tom Rigby
Just visited here, on a trip from England. Would highly recommend it for anyone interested in the history of atomic testing, or the area in general. Really well curated, and Dale was a great person to meet and talk to!
Justin Sluka
It's small - you could do it in under an hour and a half. But it's also one of the only museums that digs into the world of military and scientific nuclear testing in Nevada, and contains a wealth of artifacts to that effect.
I've gone twice and would certainly visit again next time I'm in Las Vegas!
Mr Chuckles
Super interesting and educational museum about nuclear weapon testing and how the weapons were developed and the impact it had on history and civilization as we know it. The volunteers were super helpful answering questions like the difference between a fission and a fusion bomb.
Stephen Cochrane
Great museum with well signposted exhibits. Fascinating history of Nuclear technology and the part it's played in shaping Las Vegas as well as the world.
Check Groupon for deals to get in here and save some pennies.
Eric Fishell
Very interesting and a great experience. Little known info about our atomic history. Great displays and it'll keep you involved for at least 4 hours minimum.
Jay Hendrix
The atomic Testing Museum is so interesting and helpful to understand the history and development of the atomic bombs. It is really interesting to hear about the men and women that even to today work hard for our country. It is such an eye opening experience. If you live here or travel here you should definitely stop at the Museum
Stuart Forster
The National Atomic Testing Museum is one of those attractions that count as 'hidden gems'. It tells an incredible story in an engaging manner. It's fairly close to the strip and is easy to visit.
Kerry Carlson
What a great gem! There's so much to learn and the place is beautifully curated. I learned a TON about how the US (and Russia) tested nuclear weapons throughout the 20th Century. The gift shop has clever Area 51 and alien items and real trinitite. It's a lot of fun to see how the Nevada Test Site shaped Vegas' identity, but also American culture.
Will James
I didn't know if I would like this place but wow was I was wrong. This place is awesome. Such a great museum to visit in Vegas. A lot of history and a lot of eye opening information on how we treated nuclear weapons before we knew how horrible they really are.
Scott Fry
This place is a blast! Seriously though, goes into great details about the design, testing, and use of the nuke. Hopefully, they won't need to add any other sections for new events except maybe modern power plant production or space travel.
Kendra Wright
This museum is incredible. It’s very well put together, organized and informative. We started in the first smaller museum that tells you how the first bombs were built and then moved on to the rest. Highly recommend that order. Also, we were there for 2.5 hours and could have spent at least another 30 minutes or so. If you like museums and actually reading the information, I would plan for 3 hours. We were just short on time and didn’t realize it would be so informative.
CheeseMan
One of the best museums out here in Las Vegas. I especially love how they also talk about the results of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings and small replicas of Little Boy and Fat Man bombs.
Chris Marino
Worth every dollar. Amazing historical perspective on the history of the United States use and development of nuclear weapons and power. Regardless of which side of the political aisle you hail from, this museum is a testament to our heritage as a country and the freedom provided by, in part, our development of nuclear weapons and testing.
CMB Caspanello
Lots to see, youll need at least an hour here. Ots of parking, a gift shop, and clean bathrooms. Located off the strip the museum has lots to offer including a few short movies. Entire atomic history included.
John Murphy
I visited last Friday and wish I had given myself another full hour to really see all the exhibits and videos! Incredible history and bravery shown by all individuals involved in the Atomic Age. I learned a ton and will return for sure.
matt barnes
I studied the Manhatten Project in HS and this was a great opportunity to refresh my memory and learn about what happened post WWII. Very well set up and fun. Also, adjacent to UNLV athletics facilities if you're into that. Loved this place.
Stuart Irwin
Great experience at the Museum - quality facility and displays. Nice spot to wind down compared to the constant hustle in Las Vegas.
Highly recommended.
Dezwijger1982
Its fun to see and hear the atomic history of las vegas.
Dave Knode
Wasn't busy on a Saturday morning. I feel like it was a bit overpriced. Building is large but the museum inside isn't super big. It was really interesting to talk to some of the proctors who actually worked on the testing.
KatieGarden
So much interesting information in 1 small museum. Make sure not to skip out on the 10 min movie, and get a seat a few min early.
If you are in the area, take the time to check this place out. It is a hidden gem.

Interesting information and models. Not too long or big but a good size to kill an hour or so.
Ellie Hassan
Fantastic museum that offers an exploration of American history and how it was shaped by the atomic bomb and the sub sequential testing/changes to testing that occurred afterward. The “blast door” theater area has a pretty interesting “4D” video and the exhibit offers insightful history into other aspects affected by nuclear testing, such as how they used the same drills used to build underground nuclear test sites to free the Chilean miners after the cave in a few years ago. There’s also a gift shop that has some fun nuclear and Area 51 themed items and you can even buy a piece of rare, authentic Trinitite!
Charles Reineck
This place has a special meaning to me. My son was a nuclear specialist with the US Navy. He loved coming here every chance he could. He died four years ago.
Agustin Limon
Atomic Testing Museum was very informative, lots of articles, old testing equipment, items long forgotten about nuclear test sites. There is a piece the actual steel beam from the World Trade Center. There are several things i was disappointed with. Its a small museum, and the cost in my opinion is too much for what you see. But all in all check it out, cost is 22 dollars.
M Day
Absolutely fantastic museum that gives very in depth history and fancinating history! Definitely worth a visit and the exhibits are exciting and terrifying.
Joanna Harper
Very interesting museum. Definitely a great choice if you are into science, chemistry and history at the same time!
Caleb Everson
Really educational! I liked how simply they explained how atomic energy works at the start of the museum so you could better understand all the different ways it’d get more complicated as the exhibit progressed. I also really liked all the pop culture references to atomic testing beginning in the 1950s! I learnt so much from here but one of my favorite parts were the photos of atomic testing in the vegas desert and the fact that it somehow helped the city’s tourism! The museum itself is a bit tucked away but worth stopping by for sure!
Tiffany Marra
Interesting place with lots of context about the nuclear bomb testing and experimentation. The exhibits include stories about scientists and their families as they worked and lived in isolation in Nevada. Scientists from all over the world collaborated in the development with the same goal of stopping Hitler from taking over the world.
Mark Steele
Super fun and interesting. Kept us engaged throughout. Well put together.
Took us about three hours to go through, but could easily take more..or less.
Would have liked to see more history of casinos intertwined. But just splitting hairs.
If looking for something reasonable to do off strip...this is it.
Thanks!!!
Dan Barletta
Very cool pieces of Nevada history. From our dawn of the atomic age. Native amd early settler exhibits. A walk through atomic tests and technology in the mid century. Cool bomb replicas. Test sight information and history. Multiple movie theaters and interactive exhibits as well. Lots of science and knowledge to be had.
Stephen O'Leary
Really interesting place, some really good exhibits, there's quite a lot of reading to do and not a great deal of hands on stuff so bear that in mind if you're taking kids, smaller ones probably won't get as much out of it, especially if they can't read. Well worth a stop though as a break from all the other stuff Vegas has to offer.
emily z
Small museum but pretty interesting stuff considering the scope - I kinda wish they showed more correspondence and stuff relating to the scientists themselves but the museum focused more on the atomic testing site obviously. The scrollable high speed camera video was very cool and I liked that they had some very cool displays with decommissioned stuff.
Elise Anne
This Museum was quite informative and extensive. The staff was friendly and the exhibits were detailed and well thought-out.
The movie playing in the theatre exhibit was definitely pushing an agenda, but otherwise, it was a great time.
Tom Llewellyn
This museum is really informative and well presented. If you are interested in America's atomic past, you'll love it. However, some may find the topic uninteresting or the lack of interactive exhibits unengaging.
I had a wonderful time, though.
Mary McDarby-Rios
This is a small, but interesting museum. Note, the Go Vegas Explorer pass says this is an included attraction but the museum staff says it is not included. They offered us a Groupon deal instead.
M T
Definitely a must see museum that most people don't know about. Its fascinating the amount of history Las Vegas and the Atomic age have in common. The full size atomic bomb models and components they have are simply awesome. They even have Ground Zero Theater which simulates viewing a nuclear bomb test.
Taylor Blackley
I saw a Groupon for this place and being a Smithsonian Museum I had to stop in. I wasn't disappointed. As long as you can appreciate the importance of Vegas and the Nuclear program you will find this place fascinating. Might not be the most interesting for younger children but excellent source of information and cool tools that were used.
Carolyn Deans
What a treat. A true dedication to the program and the support provided by this region, the sacrifices made and the great cooperation and pride that this program fostered with all who worked on it. Thank you for sharing all this information. If there's a few minute wait for the test simulation video/theater, wait for it. Easy to find, easy parking, a nice gift shop with some neat odd ball items.
Lacy Hawkins
A little propaganda heavy... "Look how wonderful and powerful America is!" This was the most egregious: a display about testing in the Marshall Islands that said we tested there because there was very little population. ....but there were people there who suffered tremendous effects. Much of the museum didn't focus on the horrors of nuclear power as much as the cool science. The displays on underground testing were interesting.
Bradley Zehner
The National Atomic Testing Museum is a great place to learn about all things of the nuclear age. We spent about an hour and a half exploring all the exhibits and watching videos throughout the museum. I don't think small kids or teenagers would appreciate the depth of this museum due to the fact that there is a lot of reading involved. Most of the exhibits have large plaque with a few paragraphs to read. The entry to the museum closes at 5 pm but if you are in the museum, they will let you explore until 6 pm. Make sure to check Groupon since they frequently has deals for this. Parking is not an issue since they have a large parking lot.
Larry Bannerman
The place is awesome for science buffs. Not so much so for the human tragedy of civilians killed by nuclear weapons. If you want to see how amazing it was for scientists to unite for this creation this is the right place. But 90% of those same scientists objected to its use against civilians while military targets were on the list.
Please visit when you are in Vegas. Just know this is history tilted one way.
Phillip Hearne
This was one of the Highlights of my trip out west. The information was really interesting and the topics covered are top notch. Looking forward to visiting again.
wide black boy
Very informative and a lot of very interesting items on display. I learned a lot when I went here.
bzemer1
After visiting the trinity site coming here was a must
I recommend this museum more than the other museums I’ve visited in Las Vegas
JB Courvoisier
Had no idea such a Museum existed in Las Vegas and took a trip to check it out. It is a very well done Museum that is easy to navigate and please do not listen to the "haters" who complain about the size of the Museum. It is well crafted with fantastic artificats, displays, videos, models and dioramas. This is an important subject and needs to be respected and payed a little more attention too. It is not all about "bombs" and also explains the enviornmental hazards and human toll the tests in Nevada affected. There is library for research and the staff is kind and knowledgeable. Well done I say.
Chela p
It was a very interesting museum. My sister was able to do a little research and she found a good deal through Groupon, two for the price of one.
It definitely shows you where they did all the testing in Vegas, which if you think about it kind of creepy lol. I mean people come down here to party, get wasted, gamble and just to think in this same state they did nuclear testing lmao yeah. Think about it!! What I thought was really cool was a timeline of thing going around in the world at the same time they we doing these tests. They did have a small section of when the bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki but not to much. I was hoping they would have more information on this. What I did find very interesting is that the Native Indians that occupied those lands in the now NTS (Nevada Testing Site) since the beginning of time were forced to move off their lands.
I think it's worth a stop, we will definitely keep looking into this little museum they are trying to raise funds to do something for a 911 memorial.
Kieran Kentley
The museum was very informative and had a great movie theater presentation! The exhibits were very well detailed and fun. The store was fun and if you have your receipt you can get a free DVD.
Rustell
The National Atomic Testing Museum is a wealth of information about the atomic age with a timeline running through the walls, artifacts, and films. It’s a very informative museum. I do wish it was more interactive for the younger visitors. I mean I’m not looking to have them create their own atom bombs but some activities or signage written at the elementary school level or even the recordings they could listen to as they went through to tell them stories of the time. More engagement for students. If you are looking to tour the actual test sites; google how to do that, it isn’t part of this museum even though the tours leave from here.
Timothy Benolerao (LatterDayChaplain)
Very educational place. It is cool to see how Nevada was part of shaping America’s nuclear history. STEM majors including myself would definitely recommend a visit.
P Nielsen
I could easily have spent a full day here, as anybody practicing "nuclear tourism" could. But aside for being a wealth of information, memorabilia, history, backgrounds and facts for geeks like me, the more average visitor will find the numerous exhibits both enlightening and interesting.
The Area 51 exhibit, however, wasn't of interest to me - being more of a facts guy - but I can imagine its appeal to both sci-fi nerds and conspiracy theorists :-)
Josh Jonte
Very interesting and informative if a bit dry, with a fairly high admission price at the door ($22 each for adults). Also the 'atomic theater' experience was fun with the exception of... well, there were several individuals interviewed in the film that seemed to express the opinion that all the issues with the testing they performed was entirely beneficial and that any literal or figurative fallout from surrounding resident exposure was 'totally worth the cost and if I had the opportunity I would do it all over again'. This somewhat problematic viewpoint is subtly presented as heroic in the film with the only vaguely dissenting opinion on the matter summed up in all of 10 seconds of screen time given to a university professor. Still overall and interesting and informative experience.
Steven Perry
Was educational to go see, and something to do other than gamble. Would recommend it, especially if you have kids

Very interesting, absolutely one of the highlights of our trip to Vegas. Do take the time to enter the theater there for a 15 min video that counters the often negative media coverage of nuclear weapons.
Robert Mitchell
A well organized and interesting place to learn about this important era in history.
Wes GS
Great place to spend a hot afternoon in Vegas for history nerds. Lots of information easy to read and easy to understand.
Shockata
Lot of stuff and details for the price! If you are really enthusiastic about nuke history it will take you hours to go through. Lots of text and info material, good amount of replicas and authentic stuff too.
Brian M walcott
This was a very informative and amazing. If ever in Vegas you definitely need to come here. More than learning history helps us remember where we came from so we don't make the same mistakes
Roddy Coles 3
This is an excellent museum that details the history of the atomic age. This is definitely not a Vegas tourist trap. We have been here multiple times and still enjoy it each time we visit it.
Lunch “Lunchy” Money
It was a cool experience. There is a lot about the science behind nuclear weapons, and I learned a lot about the way the United States works to maintain the current arsenal. There is a bit of propaganda, especially if you are anti nuke, but understand that this is a vitally important part of history and our world. As the only nation to have ever used nuclear weapons, its fundamental that we educate the world on why we dont want to use them. Back to the museum though. The exhibits are clear, well put together, and there is a good bit that's interactive. Lots of videos to watch too. This isn't really a young kid friendly exhibit so parents dont bring them unless they are at least 8, maybe even 10. The subject is a little to advance for kids that dont have a basic understanding of the consequences of war, and the geopolitical ramifications of using these weapons. That said, this is a good way to spend some time in Vegas.

After visiting Vegas yearly for over a decade I finally made a trip over to the Atomic Museum. The building is pretty unassuming from the outside and unless your looking for it would probably drive right by without noticing it.
Once inside I purchased my ticket and started a self guided tour. Photography was allowed in all areas of the Atomic Museum displays.
Included were replicas of missiles, videos about atomic testing and development of the first atomic bombs, as well as photos and videos showing different tests that have taken place over the decades.
A few displays offered a brief history of the cold war, the arms race, and treaties and bans on development and testing of weapons. The displays in the museum were well constructed, decorated in a way that kept you entertained even when just walking from display to display.
It took me just about 2 hours to view all the displays, read a little more than half of the materials, and watch all the videos in the museum.
At the time of my visit the Area 51 display was still being offered, but ultimately left me disappointed. There was so much more than could have done with the exhibit but instead went the way of a cheesy display that resembled some of the exhibits offered for free in Roswell gift shops.
The Atomic Museum however was really good. To my surprise at the very end of the tour a huge section of I-Beam from the World Trade Center was out on display. It was sitting out in the open where you could take photos with it and touch it. It was an added bonus I wasn't expecting and made the visit even more worth while.
I found the entire experience very educational, and I would possibly return again with friends in the future. The museum is located a ways from the Strip, so a cab ride will be needed both directions.
Andrew Smith
This is an amazing museum. Tons of history told through the eyes of the men and women who worked at the Nevada test site. Plenty of interactive exhibits for the kids. Great gift shop.
Scott Thornton
Gotta wonder what Vegas locals back in the 1950s thought of those bright flashes of light northwest of town.
Kyle Keeton
This is a cool museum that explains atomic research and the evolution of nuclear weapons. I liked seeing all of the exhibits and learning more about the history of Nevada.
Raymond Pfand
Great museum. We spent two hours there but could have spent even more. Very interesting and many interactive displays. Well worth the admission fee.
Logan “Kronos” Patrick
It was unforgettable!! Great staff here, always willing to take the time to assist you correctly, and kindly. Gift shop was surprisingly awesome, too! You can do a short path through the museum or the full one; both are good. Thanks for a great museum!
Abhra Biswas
Visited this place unplanned as it was near my hotel, found it very informative. Staff was super friendly and the exhibits were interesting. Highly recommend.
K Berry
A very clear window into the reasons and development of atomic science/energy! This museum is bursting with detailed information and really cool artifacts. Highly recommend it!
Scott Chapman
Fascinating view of the history of Atomic Testing. I thought especially interesting was the opinions about testing Atomic weapons in the 1950s. The sheer number of Atomic bombs that were exploded was also a bit surprising.
John Grimley
Who knew such a place existed and with so much information and amazing facts. Some if not all the employees that walk around the displays and timeliness actually worked at the testing grounds and can answer all those questions that come up as you walk through the museum. Totally worth going to and I will be going back to absorb more.
Garrett Miller
Get job! Interesting, informative, and we simply loved it. Four kids, four adults and all were kept entertained. Definitely one to visit and cross off the list.
Florin Ghinet
Incredibly informative and very humbling. The countdown experience was really immersive. Loved it! Highly recommend for anyone interested in the topic.
Pedro Garcia
A part of Vegas history is the area's role in nuclear weapons testing. Museum is great but small, with videos, scale models and historical artifacts in various interactive displays. Staff was friendly and informative. Place can be easily missed though, we drove by it once following our gps. It shares a building with the Desert Research Institute(DRI). If you like history, its a good afternoon activity away from the casinos. Tickets may be available at discounts on Groupon.
Steve Patterson
Neat place to read up on the history of nuclear testing conducted in Nevada. They also have free public level 2 charging that is really good. Good clean place with clean restrooms.
Robin Vitti Bellamy
Always fun and new exhibits being added.
Simon Pan
If you love science, this is the place for you. A very nice walkthrough. Pretty pricey, definitely recommend a Groupon deal.
Troy Eberlein
Really informative, well done Museum that exceeded my expectations. A bit off the The Strip but worth it
Wesley Zloza
It's an amazing museum for anyone interested in the Manhattan Project and all the work that went into it including government policies and infrastructure.
Jonny Coe
Super cool museum, and tons of unique facts and equipment from the atomic age. Highly recommend!
Sara Martin
Amazing museum full of history. I recommend the Trinity Test Exhibit. Definitely a great place!
Mel Sens
Lots of history and the theater experience wasn't expected. If you like to read. This is the place to go!!
abbby
Take 1-2 hours of your time to come visit this museum, very interesting and many things to learn. History sometimes is sad.
Erica Hunsberger
Awesome museum! I learned a lot and especially enjoyed the timeline that included pop culture and current events alongside with the history of atomic testing.
Jason Fish
Fantastic museum! Having served in the Air Force posr Cold War, it was amazing to take my family through the events and technology and even show them some of the things I worked on. They have some very rare pieces here and have some excellent films to explain the terror of the atomic weapon. Great gift shop as well.
Corey Szumski
This museum was much larger and cooler than I expected! I had a few hours to kill in Las Vegas, so I decided to visit. I'm so glad I did! There are extensive exhibits and I found it very informative and educational. There are also many different videos to watch. You could definitely spend a long time here - many hours if you read and watch everything. I stayed for just under two hours and felt like I got to experience everything.
Shayla Reeves
This is the second time I have been here , it's been a few years but I love it. So informative and always interesting. The gift shop also has more items than I remember, which I'm not complaining at all! If you have friends or family who are even at all interested in history you should come here. I'm sure I'll be back again in a few years!
Michelle Cross
This place is very fascinating, I learned a lot back in school. But I learned so much more by going here. It's very clean and well-kept and has wheelchair accessibility
Brandon Croucher
Who knew this was an actual museum! I had so much fun and learned way more about the atom bomb than I ever knew existed! Perfect place to take kids and learn about history while having activities to do! Highly recommended for families or gamblers who just need to step away from the machine for a minute ;-).
Joy “MtnGirlJoy” Brown
Educational and extremely informative. Many interactive exhibits and multiple short films.
Keith Kyzivat (Keithel)
Awesome museum with lots of interesting stories and memorabilia. Really fun place to visit, I'm very glad I got a chance to visit.
Jacob Gardner
Great museum for all ages! Use Groupon for the tickets. The museum can take about 1.5 hours depending on how fast you are. Really important educational opportunity, as it talks about what it takes to develop defense programs in the USA. Contains actual bomb casings and many other real items from the history of atomic weapons testing in Nevada. Sometimes, volunteer engineers will be there to explain certain things in the museum.
Todd West
Very informative docent. Muse is well done, not touristy. Definitely worth visiting.
John Roth
Very interesting museum with a lot of exhibits. Plan on several hours to be able to see everything.
Juan Ramón Novelo
Take your time to enjoy the multiple stories and facts not only from the scientific but also sociological aspects. Recommend the Manhattan Project video at Ground Zero Theater. 1-2 hrs duration.
A L
A really amazing learning experience that details the history of nuclear testing in an informative and easy to digest way, also has a wonderful gift shop that isn't very overpriced. That being said, while it does detail the effects of the Hiroshima bombing which I can respect, it glosses over the political kerfuffle caused by the bikini atoll testing, which I feel is a huge blind spot in the education. However their detailed analysis of east west political conflict with nuclear war as a backdrop more than makes up for it. Discounts for Nevada residents and people who have also visited the mob museum.
Kiki Wins
This was my favorite stop in Las Vegas! Absolutely worth the time to stop; really enjoyed the disney movie, the blast simulation, and all of the exhibits.
Mykee Vee
Very informative. Learn much about the bomb tests that were done in the desert outside of Las Vegas and elsewhere. Several actual bomb delivery devices are on display. Many authentic artifacts including Albert Einstein letter, sand turned glass from Manhattan Project blast, test site signing, collection of consumer "atomic" merchandise... Movie viewing room. Museum is laid out on a pathway that draws you in and takes you through in chronological order. Go at your own pace. Gift shop has Cold War and fun Area 51 merchandise.
Justin Kunst
That was fun. Very informative and lots of exhibits. Really enjoyed all the models and movies they had throughout the tour.
Nyra Rayn
Great museum with top notch displays. This screams Smithsonian from every angle. Well done peeps!
Dustie Anderson
I throughly enjoyed the exhibits. The nice gentleman was informative and answered tons of my questions
Trevor Pedley
Highly informative displays, also has informative movies...and reasonably priced (especially if u look for deals, which there always is...we got ours from Groupon)
Julian Gonzalez
Cool place, I learned a lot of historical events in the US ra e for the atomic bomb.
Mishi Bohorquez
It's very informative on near history. So much too learn even if you think you know a lot already.
Surya Jhajhria
good place to spend some afternoon hours with kids. specifically if the kids are interested in science. the museum has lot of very interactive exhibits about the history of atomic energy and bomb development and testing.
M Towers
Informative & Fun experience! Organized and researched displays.
Clare Smalley
I got a great deal on Groupon to visit here, and thoroughly enjoyed my visit. So interesting and a big part of Vegas history. There is so much to read though so be prepared!
Adam V
Very informative museum. I think anyone who comes here can have a good time learning. Definitely a great place for middle school field trips.
James
This was very nice excursion if you want to take a couple hours away from the casinos and noise of Las Vegas. The museum was laid out well, the staff were friendly and helpful, and there was plenty of interesting stuff to look at. Some of the history of the test site, how the tests were performed, and the correspondence related to the testing and development of atomic weapons was all new info for me. You can get a taxi from your hotel easy enough, but plan on using Uber or Lyft to get back.
David Hardy
Great history of atomic testing for history or science buffs!
Charles Cody
I enjoyed my visit. My only complaint are the hours of operation. I've been in this city 5 times and this is the first time I could visit with their limited hours. This is a well done and interesting museum.
Michael Erwin
Great way to spend a couple of hours in Vegas. Very interesting for any science buff.
Julia Cruz
Loved going here. So much history on this topic. I liked how they had a 9/11 display and a piece of the Berlin wall. A hidden gem in Las Vegas.
Esther Spencer
This is a small, well laid-out, educational museum. There are sections about area 51, the first nuclear tests, memorabilia, and nuclear waste responsibility. One of the coolest features is a simulated test in the middle of the museum, complete with countdown, blast of wind and a loud boom (might startle young children). Lots of little interactive bits, and very friendly staff. I was disappointed that there wasn't much discussion on the affect of the atom bombs. The museum did a good job of addressing controversies over nuclear testing, and the land used for the test site, so it was a little surprising that the actual use of nuclear weapons was hardly addressed (one small placque that says the weapons were used on a suitable military target). History is hard, but the better we get at addressing controversial pieces of our national history the better we will be.
Overall, it's a cute museum (if a little pricey), and worth a visit for families and individuals.
Stacie Guthrie
This museum was so interesting and really teaches about such a strange time in history. Offers a great learning experience. Plus, it's a neat place to visit for lovers of the Fallout video game series.
Katherine Kareck
Very interesting place. Lots of info. Movies are informative. Nice staff.
Andy P
Very informative. Nice displays and easy to get through. Lots of reading.
Keith Wallace
Very indepth educational museum about the nuclear testing that went on outside of Las Vegas. The museum is well laid out that tells the complete story in a organized way. This is a place for all ages. Inside it is clean, modern, and well maintained.
Nika Ripley
MUST-SEE this peek into the history of the nuclear program situated geographically near Las Vegas. Play with a Geiger Counter, admire nuclear rocket engines, and don't miss the Bunker Simulation!
The historical factoids along the walls are very accurate, but contain a little bit of "spin", so take them with a grain of salt.
Lady Margaret Langley-Ingress
We spent hours there. It was sooo interesting.
Brian Schlosser
The Museum was highly informative, and was arranged in a way that made the information easy to digest. The staff was very helpful, and some even previously employed at the Nevada testing site. A good way to spend a couple hours.
Steven Luwe
It was a blast! Rick hooked us up tickets via Groupon which i recommend if you are going in a group of 4 to save on price. The walk from the strip to the museum was short and gave you a perspective of the sketchy areas off the strip. Highly recommend stopping by!
Miatta Shafore
Much larger than I anticipated and packed full of interesting information. Particularly enjoyed the timeline on the history of atomic testing worldwide vs the history of popular culture in the United States. Also enjoyed the interview footage from the men and women who worked at test sites.
Vincent Morgan
This was awesome, really didn't know this much of the goings on in Vegas with regards to the testing sites, so much more to learn
Làs Vegas
Awesome place to visit, staff was great..
Andrew Ysasi
Fantastic and the tour enhanced the experience.
Trish Gregg
More interesting for adults due in part to the extensive reading. Unfortunately I was there with 4 kids ranging from 5-13. The 13 year old found it some what interesting, the other 3 were more interested in the gift shop.
Aaron Moreno
A national museum of all you wanted to know about the atomic testing programs conducted by our government (minus any classified information I suppose) from its beginning to the end of actual blast testing. I also got an understanding of the U.S. patriotism involved in atomic development. I was impressed to learn about the steps taken to assure the safety of Americans and the world and the promotion of world peace after years of data collected about the destructive potential. You decide the depth of your experience; there are detailed accounts, exhibits, artifacts, descriptions and short films. An amazing scientific experience.
Conor Chambers
Very informative. The staff here are extremely friendly and helpful.
Hayden Migl
Interesting history of the atomic bomb and testing. Nice way to spend a couple hours away from the Strip.
Fred Wiesinger
Great museum providing comprehensive history of atomic weapon development and testing in the US Southwest.
Jacob McDaneld
I personally thought this place was great (the Area 51 portion was cheesy). Maybe not the best place for kids (they may find it dry), but if you're interested in America's atomic history, this place explains a lot of it. NSTS helped the United States win the Cold War!
Olivia Sautter
Very well laid out museum explaining the history of the atomic bomb. I learned a lot coming here.
pippy longstocking
More then you can ask for. So much to learn, Very immersive, i thoroughly enjoy this place!
Glenn Robertson
Really interesting museum covering a crucial part of American history that doesn’t often get discussed. I would, however, recommend a Groupon. That being said, if you’re interested in the Cold War and the build up to that, this will be right up your alley.
Paul Bowman
This was way more fascinating than I thought it would be. We ran out of time and we had almost 2 hours.
I'll definitely be going back here to read in further detail the displays and see the videos they have to present.
The gift shop was cool and prices seemed fair. My wife picked up some stuff of course. Okay so did I.
Everybody that work there was super friendly and helpful. Oh! And parking is a piece of cake. Might be tough for a large RV or something but for a regular passenger car it was a breeze.
SJB
Wow. Who knew? So much to learn. Not crazy about learning about all the atomic waste in my backyard
Divya A
Excellent museum.
Carina Kwok
This place is very educational. I learned a lot that I did not know. The machines on display are intriguing and you get to walk through an actual tunnel they used when testing. My favorite display is the one that shows a number of atomic-themed toys and food items.
Vincent Tang
Very educational. Hands on displays wrapped and no touching signs due to Covid
Tuan Van
The museum was nice. If you want to know why Vegas was called Atomic City back in the 50s come check it out
Art McConneha
I only went to the gift shop to get something for a friend, but I plan to go through the museum next time I’m in town.
Here2 There
Found this on Groupon and snagged a great deal for tickets. Pleasantly surprised how much history the museum. So many artifacts from the era. Some still in working condition! Culturally enriching too from the many personal documents shared.
Giada Beccari
Interesting museum of the Atomic Tests. I strongly recommend to purchase the ticket on Groupon, the full price admission is too much for what offers.
Lila K
So much to learn here about atomic bombs, area 51 and more. Good way to spend a couple hours
John Dovecote
Very interesting museum, with detailed information on the many tests conducted in Nevada and the nuclear bombs race. Price to enter the museum is $22 per adult.
Megan Jacobson
The varying displays are all informative, interesting, and well displayed. The three different movie areas have great audio and effects. The second one even has special effects added to make it a 4D experience.
Craig McCreath
Real interesting museum highlighting the history of testing in the area and the impact it’s had on health to world affairs. Eve @ the gift shop was a terrific host, helped me find what I needed and was a wonder to talk to!
Joe Page
This museum is definitely a change of pace from the normal glitz of Las Vegas, but its a welcome change. The history of the atomic and nuclear testing program is intertwined with Las Vegas' history. The amount of material on display in the museum is awesome - since the nuclear testing program ended in 1992, a lot of the material is either still classified or buried in government archives. While the price is more than other museums in the area, if you're a nuclear geek or just morbidly curious, it will be worth the price of admission.
Michael Harvey
Great museum, with quality artifacts and information about the Nevada test site. The only thing I'd maybe add is some general information about the arms race of the 50s and 60s.
Rick Krieger
This is a wonderful museum, don't think that you can get through it in just two hours. Well you can if you just press on but I would plan on 3 to 4 hours at a minimum. Lots to see and learn.
Eric Corwin
One of the coolest places in Vegas, especially for anyone interested in the history of the Cold War/Nuclear science. Nice staff and gift shop. Plan for about 3 hours if you read everything.
Shane Baird
Great museum with very interesting exhibits. Covers a defining era/topic from our recent history. Most people take for granted now days that nuclear weapons are part our of world, but there was a time when this wasn't yet true. Visiting this museum can give you insight into how and why these weapons were developed.
William Pollock
It's a nice place to take the kids and spend a hour or two. A lot of interesting exhibits and pieces from the nuclear testing era.
Geoff Hubbell
Fantastic museum. If you have the slightest interest in the nuclear age, this will fascinate you.
William Nicoll
Really interesting tour of atomic history. Most of the best content of the museum focuses on underground testing due to the proximity of the Nevada Test Site.
LaShay
It wasn't expensive, but it's most likely because half the museum isn't open. It was 24 per person, but they have discount for Nevada resident , military and so on. It took about a hour to go through.
Elaine Thornton
Outstanding! This little gem will tell you the scientific history of the Las Vegas testing grounds north of the city. It's a factual, personal history and some the staff and volunteers used to be employees too. Don't miss!!
Abel Ramirez
I enjoyed our experience could have been more but we didn't have enough time
Cathleen Colehour
Really worthwhile...and great food for thought. Lots of great information--really paints a picture of how the use of atomic energy has evolved and how much we all don't know about what governments are doing. Very informative. I found it really interesting.
Cheryl Moll
If this is the type of thing that peeks your interest…. It’s definitely Worth the visit.
Michael Sonntag
Very interesting place to visit. Makes you realize the effects of atomic energy.
Simone Medeiros
Amazing experience! A lot of informations, history, artefacts....
Lacee M
Loved this! Was so much more than I had anticipated! Wonderful overview of atomic history that drew in kids of various ages!
Rebecca
Very Informative and entertaining
Tommy Liikamaa
Well worth a visit if you're in town. It's relatively small but packed with information on the exhibitions so make sure you have a couple of hours to spend.
We walked from the Venetian (approx. 45 minutes, recommending to take Kovals to Sands and then Howard Hughes) but took an Uber back to the hotel.
A very important piece of history.
S S
Very informative. Now I know where my tax dollars are going. If got AAA get a discount for ticket.
alan o'donovan
Interesting if small museum, little over a mile from the strip.
JuanE Soto (Juane)
Amazingly museum, the attention was awesome and we got to be nerds for a couple hours. We learned a lot of things and everything just felt immersive.
James Lehmann
I have been looking forward to going here for some time. It was very well done. Beautiful displays and real history. Well worth the detour from the hustle and bustle of the strip.
Angela DiLoreto
Great museum! Make sure you make time for the show too!
Amy Larsen
Worth the visit. Lots of information. I met a gentleman there that's dad was part of the troops at site during initial testing. I learned a lot.
Joshua Howard
Interesting place, knowledgeable staff as well. Older guy at the front (not sure if he's always there) had some personal experience with the testing facilities with some really interesting stories. Otherwise, exhibits and timelines were informative, though not particularly interactive (which was fine!). Overall a nice place to spend about an hour
Christopher Hood
Was good... though very biased and some highly questionable items in the souvenir shop. Also may need updating in context of the continued threat of nuclear weapons.
Chris Bajuk
Fantastic museum for science geeks like me. Well worth the entry fee!
Deborah Prater
Very interesting. So strange from what we know now to see what was "acceptable" in a different time. Definitely worth some of your time!
Frankie Irish 68
Really cool museum, I totally recommend going.
Keenan Conrad
This place provides an interactive experience of an atomic bomb. It's incredible to see so much of the history presented alongside what else was going on in the world at the time.
Liz Fiato
This was a great museum. I highly recommend for the whole family to learn about the history of atomic testing. Well done.
ladiimj93
So much information about atomic bombs, couple short films. If you like history you’ll love this.
Gilbert Rocha
Really cool museum and exhibits. Is also the starting point for tours to the Nevada Test Site.
Jonathan Albers
I wish I could give the museum 4.5 stars. The information is great and very interesting. It's worth a visit. They are still requiring masks, which I respect. But one family during our visit had a child that was coughing excessively in all the exhibits with no mask and no mouth covering. The staff should have made an attempt to address this.
Colleen Jarman
Very comprehensive and educational presentation of the Manhattan Project and aftermath.
John C
Staff was professional , friendly and guides were so knowledgeable and friendly. Brought a group of senior refugees for an outing and were so well taken care of and made the day very special. We all learned a great deal from the museum experience
Greg Allen
This is a great place to learn about our nuclear program, so much great stuff.
Susan Ratzsch
Check Groupon for tickets/ Discount if you have also visited the Mob Museum.
Informative and interesting. Bomb testing simulator was worth it.
Thu-Anh Tran
Nice museum, interesting exhibits. A great way to spend 1-2 calmer hours in LV. Nice gift shop too.
Stacy Armstrong-Flores
Great place of history. We learned about uranium and plutonium and how destructive they were to the people and areas that were bombed and tested, and continue to have problems 70+ years later. It made me sad to think of the harm we caused. Such a powerful weapon.
Hank Holevinsky
Fantastic museum, documenting our history with nuclear discovery, testing, and weaponry. Awesome displays and historical significance of all aspects of the technology.
Glen Kratochvil
What a wealth of information-- I had no idea I could learn so much about our atomic heritage. Thanks for the very good and family friendly experience.
TJ Bobosky
Great visit for anyone interested in the history of nuclear tech in the US. Detailed exhibits on the atomic weapons testing at all locations, the genesis of nuclear weapons and interesting info on how testing was done at each stage. The exhibit was informative and did not shy away from the controversial history of nuclear weapons testing by the US which is as important to consider as the incredible technical achievements that went into establishing the nuclear weapons program.
John Fleming
Great experience. Give yourself 2 hours to see everything.
Alicia Shiveley
This museum is interesting, well laid out, and incredibly informative
cheap thoughts
Fun very fascinating exhibits the entire family enjoyed it
Kelly Brion
Great historical references. They recommend 2 hours to go through, but it took me nearly 4 hours to read everything and watch the various films. Educational for kids and great teaching opportunity.
Deane Rader
We were lucky that the scientist did not blow up part of the US. Testing outside Las Vegas produced a lot of fallout.
John Jurgensen
Fascinating history. Well worth spending a several hours there. The documentary film on radiation exposure to the workers was very good. We watched about hour of it before entering the actual museum.
Cody Koeppen
The National Atomic Testing Museum was very interesting and educational. I'm really glad we stopped by. The price was fair and there was a lot to see inside. It's also worth mentioning the museum is affiliated with the Smithsonian, so you're really getting a quality experience.
The museum is located a quick ride (or a slightly longer walk) from The Strip, so it's easy to find. I was kind of surprised how many people were visiting, but the museum wasn't "busy" by any means. In fact, this a great option if you'd like to get away from the busy city crowds for a while.
Definitely stop by if you get the chance.
Rachel Delfin
Everything you want to know about the Atomic Bomb and Nevada Testing Site as well as other places.
Alex Barcelo (Libertarian Dad)
It was a lot cooler than I expected. It was cool to see the simulation blast and learn about the history of the bomb. I was born in 1988 so I was to little to remember the Cold War. My parents both born in the 1950’s grew up in it. it was cool to see the history and be able to better understand their stories.
Jin Kim
After years of coming to Vegas for work and not taking some Time to enjoy myself, I finally made it a point to see some of the local museums that the city has to offer. Frankly I don't know what took me so long to stop by.
The museum encapsulates an era of our history that is still shrouded with layers of secrecy and security, and really helps enlighten people to the significance of nuclear testing and its ramifications.
It helps to be a history enthusiast, along with perhaps a decent knowledge of the nuclear weapons and the atomic age in general, but I don't feel that they are requirements to fully enjoy the displays as long as you are there to learn. There is a lot of information to take in for the layman however, as there is so much to read and learn. It's not enough to simply walk by the displays, as a lot of them can't stand alone based purely on their appearance. Why would a single clay roof shingle make a compelling object to look at, for example. It may require some reading to know that the shingle's significance is its origin and the subtle displays of damage on its surface.
I can't write even a five star review without a little bit of constructive criticism of course. I realize that the museum's focus is on atomic testing itself, but I wish there had been a little more emphasis placed on some of the figurative fallout from those tests. There were a few pictures and relics from the two bomb droppings on Japan, but I don't recall seeing anything about the mishandling of the Demon Core and its consequences. Perhaps those things are only tangentially related to the museum's focus and are better covered at other museums, it still seems right for the tragedies to receive more attention, whether due to war or human folly.
Overall a fascinating look at the people and places and a great way to demonstrate just how much of a Herculean effort was required for man to defy nature.
Last footnote. This was written during a Time when COVID-19 is still a risk and full mask and social distancing protocols were in effect. It doesn't matter how you feel about it, if you wish to check the place out you abide by their rules. Perhaps we as a species will also gain some proper hindsight about this great incident of the past year and a half
Kate Logan
This is a very cool museum! It's associated with the Smithsonian, so it was very well done. It really had a pretty comprehensive history of atomic testing. If you're into this, its definitely worth a visit.
Udo Schmidt
Places like these that document and aim to preserve time periods in their essence are getting much too rare, and so I can only recommend anyone with an ounce of interest in the age of atomic testing to visit this museum, the staff is very friendly, the premises are very clean and the curator is more than happy to answer any questions from the visitors, this is what a museum experience should aim for. Size doesn't always matter, quality is what counts.
Yezenia Enriquez
If you like history it is a must go! I had a great time.
Richard Enriquez
I'm a Atomic Veteran, Operation Dominic, JTF-8 Johnston Island, 1962. I visited the Museum and donated copies of my participation certificates, orders from our deployment and picture of the VP-9 crew, who participated. I was very impressed with all the displays, especially with the theater display, I would tell my wife the effects of an Atomic blast, she really understood what Atomic Veterans experienced. Thank you to all the staff who helped us. Thank you for the Museum.
Jeremy Chobot
Pretty cool experience. While the stories told depict how people felt in the 20th century, there is not a modern regard for how the work done effects wildlife, indigenous peoples, or the local populations. What little there is is shown as an afterthought and explained as a necessary exploitation for the greater good. Not the tragedy that it is.
Glen Husbands Jr.
Very informative and interesting experience! Thoroughly enjoyed myself
Violeta Romo
I visited several museums in Vegas and this one is the most informative. I would only point out that it is a little bit apologetic of atomic testing, which I did not like.
Don DeVlieger III
It's was a nice a clean, a well put together display of atomic history.
Predrag Ilic
A rather enjoyable museum, rich in history and global politics. When it comes to content, it has a lot to offer. One of the more peculiar things to see is not an object but a person who worked at the testing site. He is a treasure grove of ideas, information and useful advice.
Wil Frankenberry
Loved it! Very informative on bomb technology. Great place to get out of 105 degree heat🌞🌡! …
Bay Walker
Outstanding history of nuclear bomb testing in Nevada going back 70 years. The many short videos kept my attention pondering this fascinating aspect of American and World history.
W. White
Wonderful museum. I really like the display layouts leading through the chronological occurrence of the historical events. The display information tags are informative and printed in a good size font for reading when multiple people are at the same display. The scale modeling of large items is very nicely made with clear details. Museum staff are helpful and very pleasant to talk with. I recommend visiting this museum to anyone that visits the Las Vegas area. There plenty of good learning in this museum.
Tori Eaton
The museum had all the info you’ve ever wanted about atomic testing in general- and all sorts of info on Nevada testing. This is an older style museum with lots and lots of reading- and, of course, all of the interactive parts were shut off for Covid. If you’re interested in atomic history, definitely come. If you’re not, you probably won’t enjoy it.
DeAnn Seneff
If you're looking for something to do in Las Vegas that isn't gambling or drinking and maybe you'll learn something this is the place for you. A great self-guided museum that allows you to spend as much or as little time at each exhibit as you want. My adult son and I went and thoroughly enjoyed the entire Museum.
Pete giencke
A hidden gem just off the strip — makes the atomic history of the US accessible and interesting for all audiences
Jason Loehnert
First visit and good overall. The movie video went out midway through the presentation hence the four star rating.
Trevor Richards
People here were really nice and the museum wasn't that crowded (on a Tuesday) so we felt comfortable walking around everywhere and taking our time. Lots of information, some good videos you can watch. It does get quite scientific so if you aren't into learning the science behind stuff, about half the museum is about that. I can see kids getting bored here. It was OK for me, but if you're into this stuff it's definitely a 5 star experience that you could probably do in 2 hours or so.
Kimberly Magik
Interesting museum. Takes you throught the history of the testing site and what they accomplished. Very interesting points of interest and artifacts.
Arjun Sharma
This is a technical museum with a lot of fascinating information about the development of the nuclear bombs. It fairly represented the risks and importance of these weapons.
Gregg Perry
Fascinating museum. Lots of great artifacts.
Aaron Fultz
The museum transports you back in time to the atomic age. The design of the museum immerses you in the time.
Chris Gould
A fascinating museum dedicated to the atomic testing and especially the Nevada Test Range. Less detail on the specific atomic tests than I was expecting, but still very interesting. A little disappointing that the interactive exhibits were off limits due to COVID-19, but I can't fault them. Overall I enjoyed this museum and learned a fair amount, but it isn't a museum that is easy to sit with afterward - be warned.
Vernon Grier
This is a great place to help you understand the history of nuclear development. It is pretty sobering to see the sacrifices people made to develop and defend this country. It also shows you the horror of the use of these devices. They also explain how we check and maintain our nuclear stockpile. There is a lot to see and do here. Well worth the trip.
Adam Wolverton
One of the most exciting museums I have ever been to.
Kenneth Szulczyk
It is a cool place on how USA developed nuclear weapons.
julie knadle
Nice staff, very informative, shows protests, science videos, I recommend it! Shows a sample bomb shelter & equipment.
Rod Schiffman
I just recently found about the museum. We've been to the smaller museum in Wendover related to the flight and dropping of the bomb in Japan. I grew up while testing was still going on. We later learned about all the downwind effects.
This museum covers this period. There is enough interesting material and artifacts for those who just want to see the highlights and interesting artifacts. It also has enough material for the person who wants to dig deeper and have a far more nuanced experience.
P Lan
Well worth it and very interesting. Make sure you spend the time watching the shows in theaters.
Lizzy N.
This is one of the coolest museums I've been to. The exhibits are informative and creatively designed, and everyone was friendly and helpful. There is an atomic test simulator where you can sit in a replica of a test bunker and experience how the original tests felt/looked/sounded. I highly recommend this museum to anyone looking for some unique Las Vegas history.
Gus Chavez
It was interesting as they had replicas of a lot of things. They also had a theater where they show you a short movie and simulate an explosion. Loud and blasts of air so not for very small children. The rest of the museum is fine for everyone.
Hubert Cheverry
Well made museum on the US testing program. Nice miniatures and representations, lot of information. They open a beginning of recognition of damages caused via the explanation of the various programs. The impacts themselves could be more developped but it is already a lot better than most of other nuclear power countries.
Adam Waters
This is such a gem of a location. Fascinating, varied, and well set out. A must see if you're in Vegas!
M Blackburn
Interesting place. A little scary when you realize what we as humans have created.
Wendy Hipple
Great museum to visit, spent about 2.5 hours here. It was nice to do something different outside of the strip and casinos. Plenty of parking. We got a 65% off discount through Groupon for two, definitely worth it. No need to print it, you can just show the code on your phone. It's a really interesting museum, I enjoyed it very much.
Sandra Larson
Very well thought out presentation of information relating to our nuclear history! We have been there before and intend to return in the future. Very interesting!
Mark Nierwetberg
The place to be for history and Cold War nerds. Take a look, that technology shaped a good part of the 20th century... crazy stuff there. I liked it.
Marie Wood
Very interesting a d sobering. Glad I visited.
Nicole Stannebein
Had an amazing time learning the history of atomic testing.
Gordon Hardy
If you are a history and nuclear energy nut like me you will probably enjoy the visiting this museum. It had a really nice collection of items that you can look at, with a couple informational videos thrown in here and there. It is a fairly complete and was very interesting. While i understand the purpose of the museum is nuclear testing, it would be nicer if they expanded a bit. Definitely get groupon if available, i don't think it's worth the full price. A good experience nonetheless.
Nicholas Buck
Absolutely fantastic visit. It was great to go and see something besides all of the craziness in Vegas. So much information and great displays. The museum take about two hours to go through when you stop and take in all of the exhibits. I would highly recommend stopping in and visiting this museum. Also look for a Groupon, we received a good deal when we bought our Groupon.
Martin Weaver
A fun educational stop just off the strip for those interested in the history of atomic testing in Nevada. This museum is a lot of reading and looking at complicated things and has very little things to play with so it's probably a mot better for adults than children. The information quality is excellent and the signs and progression through the museum is logical and interesting. Plenty of stuff to learn for those who are really interested. I was pretty disappointed that the price was $22 per person especially considering it only took me about an hour and a half to get through the exhibits and they claim to be associated with the Smithsonians. It's also really interesting that the NNSA is housed in the same building upstairs.
Stephanie Taylor
Interesting history. A great mix of exhibits which highlighted the history of nuclear testing in both the local area and around the world. Staff were friendly, and I enjoyed the optional videos throughout the exhibits. The gift shop is small-- the people are there to educate, not sell. I recommend it, though do realize it's not an uplifting museum.
Jeremy Fath
Little bit of history real artifacts are always important. If your going to Mars why not ride a nuke.
Kathleen Adams
Fantastic museum. Had a great time, exhibits were interesting and informative. If you are looking for something in Vegas to mentally stimulate you, this is the place. A great self-guided museum that allows you to spend as much or as little time at each exhibit as you want.
Gabriella C
This was one of the highlights of my recent 2020 Las Vegas Trip. My significant other is a contract engineer for NASA and I am a lover of all things Nevada, and needless to say this museum piqued our interest. Admission price was reasonable, especially with a Groupon. The content was relevant and organized and included information about the history of the Nevada Test Site and Atomic Testing in general. There are interactive exhibits as well as short films throughout. While initially we were disappointed that the Museum was off the Strip, we soon appreciated the lack of crowds and noise. We spent about four hours there but did do a lot of reading.
Eric Baker
This museum is a great mix of science and culture. It really should be called the Museum of the Atomic Age. The Americana on display in the museum is excellent. The focus on science and the culture inspired by it is unique.
Umberto Fournier
This museum is so cool! it provides a very in-depth explanation of the history of the United States Atomic power program and its relation to the state of Nevada. They have lots of cool artifacts from history including parts from nuclear powered rockets as well as some samples of very small nuclear warheads (not active of course). there's a lot of cool maps from the testing site, the design of the testing systems, the location of where the tests occurred, how they affected Nevada, etc. It really was an awesome experience. If you have any sort of interests in the history of Atomic Testing for the United States you should see this Museum.
Keith Oliver
VERY cool museum that is very well done and shows a lot of the history around the atomic bomb and the history around Vegas that associated with it. Took us around 1.5 hours to get around the museum and learned a lot. Definitely recommend!
Rene Paz
Great museum that is fun and interactive. I'm not sure if their is a guided tour but really no need for one. As you walk along their is information everywhere that starts from how they decided on the testing site and up until the time they stopped testing. They have a few areas to sit and watch short interviews with the people who worked their. Also the price isn't bad and they offer military discount.
J Jones
Very interesting and a lot more than I expected. A great deal of information with or without the guided tour. Give yourself an hour minimum, if you really want to watch the films offered and read the information throughout the exhibit. I think we were lost in time and spent nearly two hours there.
I feel like some of the information didn't flow in the time line. Also, the devastation was minimized, in my opinion, but it's probably about funding and creating a positive experience...
Ryan Abella
Excellent, focused museum. The collection is fairly small, but informative when it came to atomic testing. I especially enjoyed the diagrams and modes of how they conducted underground testing. The museum also has a chunk of the Berlin Wall and a piece of a steel beam from the World Trade Center.
Only qualm with our visit was its pro-testing bias throughout the museum. It isn’t blatant or pushing into propaganda-levels of bias, but it’s noticeable enough for anyone who has studied the subject or visited other museums in DC or in Hiroshima/Nagasaki. There isn’t a right or wrong answer on the subject. It’s clear that the museum pushes you in one direction. Just something to be aware of. Still very much worth the visit!
Chris Constantine
This was better than I expected and was a fair deal with a Groupon discount.
Christian Ternus
Fascinating. I usually go through museums pretty quickly, but I spent almost two hours here. Great collection of artifacts, and don't miss the Ground Zero Theater. Worth it.
I got a discount from Groupon - worth checking there first.
Helen R.
This was such a fun museum to walk through. Very informative and the history was so interesting. It wasn't overly crowded when we went so we were able to take our time and thoroughly enjoy it. The staff was very kind and courteous as well.
Vicman 41
If you are not into all the distractions on the strip and are facinated with history, this is a perfect way to spend a few hours while in Vegas. My son and I didn't want to go shopping or gamble while waiting for our flight and found this Jewel of a museum. Not only were the exhibits interesting, the other visitors had gripping tales about the time period all this was taking place.
You will enjoy it. Go!
Tabatha Eggleston
A fantastically designed museum. Incredibly detailed and dense with information. This museum really exceeded our expectations. It was very interesting to see how Vegas grew alongside the atomic testing and to learn about the impact that the testing had on American culture. All of the items are well curated and the layout/pacing is thoughtful. I would have loved to see a gift shop with more upscale items. Check Groupon for a great ticket deal.
Caryn Burgess
Located off the strip it is worth the drive. Small museum but very informative. Can spend as little as an hour and see it all. Lots of reading not for young children. Your bracelet will also get you a discount to Mob museum.
Lee Evan
Been here a few times. Very friendly staff. Lots of great exhibits. Very educational. If you lookkng for something different, quick, easy and harmless fun for the whole family. This is a great place.
Jeffrey Tobin
Interesting collection and informative write-ups throughout the museum. Location is about 30 minute walk from most of the main places on the strip. Not the most scenic walk, but wasn't awful, definitely see more of the interesting locals that you don't see on the strip much.
Thomas Jackson
Interesting museum. More about the history of testing rather than impact of bombs. Worth a visit if you're tired of the casinos.
Carrie Groneman (Lynn Miller)
I've lived in Henderson, Nv for over 15 years but was unaware of this museum. My two daughters visited from Missouri and wanted to go. I'm so very glad I did! Full of national as well as Nevada history and artifacts from time periods ranging from the 1920s to present day.
Wonderful museum and well worth the
Gary Mackelprang
A fascinating excursion into the past. Important artifacts are effectively displayed to provide visitors with a good contextual feel for the time and t he circumstances of America's development and testing of nuclear weapons. It's walking distance from the strip and offers a thoughtful, interesting couple of hours. I recommend it.
Steven Davis
A well thought out museum. We are the 1st nuclear power and everyone who can visit this museum should do so if for no other reason than that. However, this museum provides an in depth looks at Nevada's role in this history. A bit insane viewed 50 years later, but clearly something that was real and so.ething we all need to know.
grant johnson
Very interesting history. A little more hands on would be nice.
L. J. Riley
As I walked through this museum showcasing the depths of humankind's depravity it reminded me of Genesis 6:5 "the Lord saw how great man's wickedness was and how every plan devised by his mind was nothing but evil."
I'm not saying it wasn't appropriate to do what they did. I wasn't there. BUT wasn't there ANY other way?!
Courtney (Waffles)
Loved this place! Great historical context paired with fascinating pop culture context organized chronologically that even as a millennial I could relate to from the 1940s all the way into the 90s. If you're not looking to be trashed your entire time in Vegas, this is a great exhibit which really helped shape the city into what we know today.
Stan Berry
A lot of learning for the price you get. Especially if you get your tickets via Groupon
Mykids Mom
Great place to visit if you want to learn the history behind the atomic bomb.
Alisa Miller (Blue Angel)
This was actually our favorite stop on our whole trip!
Richard Revels
Had no idea this place exists. I learned a great deal from the tour and video. May make time to visit the test site in the future.
braum denton
Very well-done museum. Lost of interesting exhibits regarding nuclear weapon development, testing, and research. I found it fascinating.
if you are the least bit interested in Nuclear history or Nevada state history, then I highly recommend this museum. Very well done.
James I
Great! Allows photos and bottled water, lots of historical artifacts and pieces.
Stef Cobelens
Easy hour long museum to learn about nukes and the cold war. Very interesting!
x x
Loved the museum! Extremely interesting, well- organized knowledge, great exhibits!
E T
We had a good time here. This museum was filled with various photos, videos and details about the history of the Atomic Nuclear testings here in this state. There was an Atomic testing bunker theatre too, which simulates the experience being at an Atomic testing site. It runs every 15 minutes. I liked the little gift shop, and would highly recommend buying a drink or two that they have in their fridge. They all have very interesting names/design. I bought a Radioactive Soda (Mulberry flavour), and the cap has an interesting message under it! 😂
Angelika & Dennis Chappell
This is a fine museum that covers a very specialized subject. Much of what is on display is instruments and equipment that was used in esoteric experiments that are outside the usual person's knowledge base.
The museum presents the artifacts and events in a way that makes it understandable. It's worth a visit to understand the 'atomic age' and its impact on our nation and world.
Eric Williams
My wife and I visited the National Atomic Testing Museum on a lark. It ended up being the best stop of an impromptu day in Vrgas. Each exhibit was well crafted, informative, and eye opening. We are "readers" and enjoy taking the time to actually learn from museums. This one doesn't disappoint. After you pass the box office, there aren't any docents on staff, but the placards, posters, and exhibition generally provides excellent insights to those willing to listen to what's been written. If you visit this once in a lifetime museum, take the time to really experience all of the details. It's a great way to spend 3 hours and see into a formerly top secret section of American history.
Brian Atkins
Very well done museum. WTC artifacts were very moving.
Itai Dagan
One of the best museums I've visited in my life. The timeline for when and why the tests started, what they entailed, how they progressed over the years, the people working there, the equipment they used, how nuclear weapons were perceived in the public eye and in pop culture, this museum has it all. My only recommendation - skip over the parts that interest you less, because if you read every single plaque - you're going to run out of energy before you reach the end of the museum, and that's a shame. Go there, enjoy it, a treat for anyone who's interested in nuclear energy, weapons and worldwide diplomacy.
MTFlyBoy Clark
We've been there twice in the past three years. Certainly worth stopping by if you are in the area. Really gives an appreciation for the rapid development of nuclear technologies and the roll it has played in our history and survival. I hear they are making some major changes this year, so I will certainly be back again next time I'm in LasVegas.
O'Bryan Lavary
Truly amazing learn something new everyday for the price can't be beat definitely recommend especially if you're bored during the day in vegas
Cheri Lenhert
Such interesting history. Having lived in the state of NM where they are a part of this as well just was so great to walk through this history in this museum. It is layed out well with the different time periods in our history. The gift shop really was well done with so many types of tshirts for example along with other nice gift items. Everyone that worked there were so nice and helpful.
Thomas Jones
Nice idea but execution is a bit "world's largest ball of twine". Very nice gift shop, though.
Tavaris Williams
REALLY COOL STAFF. Met the Dircetor! 10/10 would do again
Corinne Horwitz
This place was so interesting! I loved walking through and seeing all the displays, getting an idea of what technology was like so many years ago. We have come a long way. I also enjoyed paying a little extra for the area 51 exhibit. They really set the whole thing up as a joke, but it is funny and I had a great time walking through it.
laura skogen
Really cool place we learned a lot! There is so much to read and soak in, so plan on several hours.
TJ Lewis
There are a ton of interesting exhibits outlining the entire history of the United States atomic bomb program. It was very educational but also entertaining. It also provides insight into what else was happening in history during the atomic bomb era. The gift shop has reasonable prices as well and there was ample free parking.
Ron Long
Very informative and interesting museum. Spent a couple hours there and could have easily spent a bit more.
Nick Smith
Amazing place to explore. A ton of history to take in. Staff was super friendly, and helpful. If possible try and sign up for the NNSS tour a few months in advance, they take you up into the actual Nevada test site to see where they tested and exploded the nuclear devices.
Rob B.
An extensive history of the Bomb. The museum includes a '4D' style simulation of an atomic explosion.
L D
Historical side of Nevada and Las Vegas that probably not many locals even know about. It is a lot of fun and worth checking out. It is almost as we are going to have a blast!
Michael Gillett
It's scary and also fascinating at the same time knowing that these tests took place not far from where the museum is now. It's a really well-done museum with great exhibits. Definitely check out Groupon though, they usually have deals going on to get a discounted ticket.
Luke
The pacing of the museum seemed a bit off; the exhibits and reading material jumped around a lot in history. It can get pretty crowded at the beginning but the museum gets more open as you go. If you are the type to read a large amount of the material, you can easily spend over 2.5 hours at the museum.
Amanda Crinigan
Important to note, RESERVATIONS are required (currently) to visit so plan ahead. Staff has done a great job of making your visit COVID safe and enjoyable. Great history lesson w/ real "artifacts" & timelines to help you appreciate the science during those moments in history.
JR Curley
If you're incredibly interested in atomic history - then this is a great museum to visit. Just be aware that the material is quite historic, so it may not be a great family event (there are no cuddly bears for baby to ooh and aah about here). The exhibits are very detailed, with a broad range of elements from actual hardware (amazing) to old school propaganda (so cool to see) to test information. You can easily spend hours reading through the exhibits, watching the small films and checking out what is in the museum.
There is also an "Area 51" tour, which is very...strange. It feels like a super campy addition to what is a very serious museum. I can only recommend the Area 51 tour as a throw-away addition to the main tour. It's just too small and too campy to really be taken seriously.
Overall - a great place to check out!
Brittny M
This place was pretty fun. We are from NM, so we have a deep history in this subject, but it was still a fun place to visit. Depending on how in depth you read and watch things it could take 30-90 minutes to get through here. They have replicas, large displays, videos, and lots of original artifacts. It was great to see all the items on display from Los Alamos National Labs.
Charles Carlin
This is such an interesting museum. I come in every few years and just made a stop last week. The displays are humbling to notice the history and efforts and attitudes of the people in our history. The information is eye opening and so worth a visit to get a real handle on what has cone on in our not to distant past. There are also special displays, this time it was a lot of Roswell stuff that was from an I can't believe it point of view. You come and draw your own conclusions.
DD Mcgrue
This is a great place to go to learn all about the history of testing Atomic weapons in the US. Museum is well laid out with interesting exhibits and artifacts. There's even a cool weather station outside of the museum in the parking lot. Parking is free and this Museum has very easy access.
Timothy Mok
Great museum documenting the history of atomic testing. If you plan on reading each and every panel, you will need approximately 2 hours. Be aware that the "ground zero" presentation can scare the little ones. Definitely recommend this museum to anyone interested in cold war history and science/technology.
Joseph Kasal
Had a great time here with my son. I would say the normal entry fee was a bit high but we got a Groupon that puts the entry fee right were it should be.
Lots of history and great displays showing the Nevada nuclear history.
The Area 51 display was informative but just okay.
John Scolaro
I'm rating this museum 5/5 because I personally loved it. I'm biased though because I love physics, history, and museums. This museum might not be everyone's cup of tea though, so I could understand why it would be rated slightly lower.
Contains very interesting exhibits about the history of nuclear testing, testing in Vegas, the nuclear arms race, the geology of the Nevada test site, and more!
I found cheaper tickets on Groupon so that might be worth a look.
Parth Patel
Great museum with a lot of unique artifacts. Worth the time and money!
Srinivas Kumar
Interesting though scary demo of Nuclear Power !
Kevin Brown
We took some friends from Arizona to see our Museum because he worked for two decades as an engineer for the military. What a surprise when we saw a tatical nuke he worked on. He is now signing up to be a contributor. He told us the museum info is 100% authentic and correct. If it impressed someone who worked there it will impress you. You can sign up for the testing grounds trip when you visit our museum..
Sheshagiri Pai
Lovely place. Having worked as a Nuclear scientist, I had special interest in the place. My research oriented son was intrigued by Area 51 displays. Well worth the visit, especially if you are interested in the history of the place. I used Groupon coupon ($41 for 4 adults). You could find some people who arrived without tickets and save them some money.
Kevin Schmidt
Great museum if you are interested in learning about the United States’ nuclear testing history.
Rusty Salmon
Lots of interesting exhibits BUT so much of their signage is miniscule! Virtually unreadable for many, and I'm sure it must be important info or why would they have bothered to make the sign in the first place? They really need to address that if they want visitors to get the most out of the displays. The pictures and history of the testing was fantastic! We really enjoyed the various videos, too.
Russell Laramie
I went here the last time I was in Vegas visiting from Phoenix. I'm glad I went. If you're ever in Las Vegas and can tear yourself away from the Strip for a few hours, I highly recommend this little gem. It is very interesting and worth the visit. They have really awesome artifacts and displays on nuclear weapons and testing. There is also a really cool Area 51 & aliens / extraterrestrial life exhibit. Definitely worth a visit.
Amy
The reviews of this museum were excellent and although I'm glad we went, it was a but disappointing. The exhibits were in a confusing order and seemed to miss some context. I was expecting more about the Manhattan Project and creation of the bombs but the focus was more about the post 1945 era and the nearby Nevada Proving ground and testing in the 50s and 60s. I was surprised by the ad I saw at the airport indicating the museum is about Area 51. There was NOTHING about this in the museum except googaws in the gift shop related to this area so don't expect any history about aliens when you go. I am a history teacher and learned a lot, and as I said worth a visit, but I was disappointed for a Smithsonian museum. The cost is also not cheap. We used a Groupon which reduced cost somewhat.
Cas
My time at the museum was limited because I arrived after 2 p.m., but rather than miss the whole thing entirely I just threw down and did it. Quickly. I'm glad I did.
The museum is absolutely packed with artifacts and data about the history of atomic testing. It houses six galleries, a movie theater and two World Trade Center artifacts. If you're even remotely interested in the history of the atom bomb or America's nuclear program, this museum is definitely for you. If you couldn't be bothered, you should still go. Here's why - and I won't get preachy - sure it's important, but there are parts that are really fun. Well, the Atomic Age Gallery was fun - housing dozens of artifacts from the 50s and 60s, including a Disney film which explains a nuclear reaction. Don't miss it!
There's a lot of information here and you probably won't get to it all. I wasn't able to check out the ground zero theater where you can "immerse yourself in a multi-sensory experience that simulates an above ground test" but I sure wanted to.
tim seldal
Very cool museum! Definitely worth checking out. Very interesting. Lots of interesting information and facts. Very interesting Nevada history.
Paul O
Very interesting. The video presentations were good but some more project specific videos would be a great addition.
Randall Hayter
Lots of interesting exhibits here and well worth the trip off the strip if you are interested in cold war history. It tends to glorify nuclear weapons, but that's to be expected, given their mission.
I wouldn't recommend walking from the strip - the distance isn't bad, but the heat can make the walk seem much longer than it really is.
Sean Dyer
A nice little Museum, definitely worth the Groupon price and taking time out to visit. There is tremendous value and chatting with the volunteers and older fellows who work here, and have direct experience all things Atomic Testing. Start up a conversation, they're easy to talk to, and you'll learn more then just reading the signs.
Zakery Curtis
Super interesting and very informative. I would definitely recommend if you have an interest in the Nevada test site and nuclear testing. I easily spent 2+ hours here. Parking is free as well, right in front of the museum!
Lillian Kruzsely
I cannot recommend this Museum enough. Natalie (curator) is amazing. The museum welcomes volunteers from the test site and they talk to the visitors about their experiences. This is a must stop for your trip to Las Vegas.
Researchers are welcome :)
James Delliskave
This museum was not terribly interesting, but has a few interesting displays. The presentation of it was really nice and had some cool artifacts. The one thing I would avoid doing is the Area 51 exhibit. It had a few fascinating artifacts, but seemed like more of a cheesy elementary school haunted house (there wasn't anything scary in it though) than a museum exhibit. I would suggest the actual part about Atomic Testing to anyone who is interested in the Cold War and science, but it still wan't that interesting.
Lawrence Tan
The best stop we made during our trip here. They are Smithsonian affiliated, so don't forget to bring your membership card. Also, the wristbands are good for 25 % off of the Mob Museum admission.
Please "like" if this review has been helpful to you.
John Via
We took a rout there this past Friday. It was a very informative experience. The person providing the tour was extremely knowledgeable. Awesome experience!
Clare Lin
The Area 51 exhibit was such a gag- just kinda funky and not worth it, IMO.
However, the legit part of the museum was filled with a lot of really good facts and artifacts concerning Ground Zero and the lives of researchers involved in the development of the nuclear bomb. It really gives you a detailed window into an important part of our history. I also noticed many Japanese-speaking groups on tour here, which I much admired.
I visited as part of the Adventure Power Pass activities package, but you can find other deals online.
I would think this to be a boring visit for the kids though, just as a word of caution!
Cthippo1
The museum was kind of a letdown, especially for what it cost. It was $40 for two people and I felt like the exhibits, and especially the explanation of them was pretty shallow. There were some cool exhibits, especially the instrument package for the underground tests, but overall it was pretty underwhelming. They had too many TVs playing different video exhibits, and also a lot of the exhibits felt like PR spots for the contractors at the test site, who also sponsor the museum.
Art Thompson
Very interesting if you like history. We spent over 2 hrs walking around in there looking at the displays and reading the history. It is a self guided tour that you go at your own pace. There is a lot to see abf a great timeline of atomic bomb and energy.
Jeffrey Rosenthal
A delightful romp through the history of the American nuclear program. Enough material and detail to satisfy nuclear history buffs, accessible enough for youth, probably. There were a number of typos and continuity issues, but the museum is ultimately fantastic. Though one would hope for better curatorial oversight with Smithsonian funding on the table
Sandra Park
Always awesome. Everyone was knowledgeable, friendly.
Steve Hyson
Small but beautifully presented museum with a wealth of interesting exhibits and information to take in. It's not your typical Las Vegas attraction, but nonetheless well worth a visit if you have any interest in science and how nuclear bombs work. ☺️

It is the National Atomic Testing museum, so you need to know going into it that it's a fairly niche topic and may not appeal to everyone. The museum is laid out in a winding U shape and is fairly short. That being said, I found out my grandpa served in one of the units stationed in Nevada at the base these tests were conducted at, so it was a decent time killer to get away from the monotony of the strip and find out what these troops went through (he didn't talk about it and I didn't find out until after his death). Although the exhibits are small, all of the displays and signage contain a ton of info so if you actually read them all, it can be a lengthy trip. The employees are polite and helpful, and even gave us the necessary forms to mail to release my grandpa's records and hopefully find out more about his service. Overall it was worth the trip and a short drive from the strip.

So this museum is a bit serious overall and not the most kid friendly. Youngsters over 10 will like it. Lots of plaques to read, few buttons to push. I would say the true hard core history fanatic and the physics nerd will enjoy this place the most.
When we went they also had a tongue in cheek "alien"/Roswell display. This was over two years ago. This area was not a Omni Magazine serious treatment but more like The X-files. Overall my father-in-law and I liked this place more than shopping.

Very cool place with a ton of cool paraphernalia from the 40s until now regarding nuclear history. Lots of great info about a ton of different things in atomic research. We only wish it was a longer tour, it was very short on our self-guided tour.

The museum consisted of the atomic testing exhibits and the Area 51 exhibit. The atomic testing exhibits were informative and well done. There was a lot of reading so an audio tour option would go a long way to helping keep museum goers engaged. More interactive exhibits might be good as well.
The Area 51 exhibit felt mostly like a gimmick and was difficult to take seriously. Again, a lot of reading in this area with most of it being filler.

Part of our history that likely saved our nation and led the way in our arsenal of deterrence today. The lessons learned for safer munitions and power plants using nuclear power. The pictures show pieces of the Berlin wall and a section of Tower 1 from 9/11. Glad to have the honor to visit the museum and see these items first hand.

Got tickets on Groupon for this museum. It is much larger than I expected, full of all kinds of interesting pieces of atomic testing history! I would recommend this to anyone who is interested in the blend of science and pop culture that fueled the Cold War era.

The museum was very nice and well curated with lots of information. The museum doesn't try to make judgements of morality and just presents the facts. It does feel a bit dated and was a bit expensive but overall it was nice. The Area 51 exhibit on the hand was not nearly as well done. It had interesting information but did not look very professional.

Great way to kill a couple of hours. Gave me great perspective on a tense time, and how it impacted the nation

I really enjoyed the time I spent here. I know museums aren't typically what people come to Vegas for but I felt like they had a well-organized exhibit with some videos and pop culture info as well as the scientific stuff I expected.

Great museum! Very interesting to see the beginning of the atomic era, the research behind the cold war era, and where we are now! The best part was getting a tour by Ernest Williams who worked at the Nevada test site for years. The atomic portion of the museum was amazing! The alien exhibit was not. Once you walked into it you just continue walking faster until you find the exit. You can skip it and you will not miss any thing. The National Atomic Testing Museum is a must see for any trip to Vegas.

Interesting timeline of nuclear testing with many artifacts. The main US test site was just north of Las Vegas and the nuclear mushrooms could be seen from the strip as kind of entertainment - the location of the museum in Las Vegas feels appropriate. We went there with out two boys of ten and thirteen years, and it was fun for my wife and me and OK for the boys, especially when we could add some family history and science to the exhibition, "when grandpas and grandmas were living" and so on.

Must stop to visit lot of information about mercury road

I don't think it's of common knowledge just how fundamentally atomic power changed everything. And also how brave and ingenious the scientists and engineers were when studying atomic power. The tour was a real eye opener and it was great that they allow photos throughout. No videos but I think that's fair.

Amazing exhibits, very, Very, VERY interesting! I knew that Vegas had a strong connection to our atomic history, but it was fascinating to learn more. Loved learning more about the tools and methods involved in nuclear testing.

The museum is very well done. They have volunteers who worked at the testing sites that walk around and share their experiences and answer questions. It is a nice addition and brings the human factor into it. There is a good balance of reading, audio, visual and actual pieces. It is a self-paced tour so you can go at your own pace. My husnand and i used a Groupon for addmission and it was almost half the admission price. But having been there now, i eould say the admission charged is worth the experience. We spent almost 4 hours there.

Fascinating museum about the development and testing of nuclear weapons. The museum is rich with displays about test sites and actual equipment used to measure test results. The place isn't huge but it's well laid out and full of interesting details. Well worth a visit.

Definitely get the Groupon for this place and save yourself some money. The museum is small, but absolutely packed with information. All the guests I've taken here have really enjoyed it.
The Area 51 exhibition, however, it terrible. It looks like a ninth graders science project. Not enjoyable at all.

So interesting! Learned more than I bargained for. Also bought a groupon so that did help. Staff were extremely friendly and checked our bags at no charge and explained photographs w cell phones were ok. The bomb simulation was very neat. I have even less faith in humanity now but it was a really informative museum and I would highly recommend to anyone passing through. Gift shop has a great sense of humor.

My wife found a discount for the museum on Groupon. She always looks for things to do with the kids when we go to Vegas. I didn't know what to expect when we went, but I was pleasantly surprised. I am into science so I really liked it. My wife and kids really enjoyed it too. You learn about the birth of the atomic energy and how it has changed the way we live. You learn about the nuclear era and how it affected the Cold War. They have equipment and pictures from the testing of atom bombs. They have old toys and books that show kids how to prepare for a nuclear war. They have declassified documents from the President about the atom bomb testing. They even have a beam from the Twin Towers from 911. Took about two hours to go through and we read just about everything. I definitely recommend this if you are in the area and you are into science.

I'm all about history and nuclear testing is part of our history and happened in our back yard. The admission price is a bit steep, even for the locals discount. I couldn't score the Groupon offer in time. I wish they would tell more about the results from all the data collected and studied all these years. One nice perk, if you keep your wrist band and show it at the Mob Museum you get 20% off admission. Was also informed that you can sign up for a bus trip to see parts of the testing sight which books out months in advance.
