Reviews of Indiana Medical History Museum
Joanna Wojtowicz Southwood
I didn't realize we had to make an appointment for the museum tour ahead of time. Highly recommend doing it online. Tours are limited, so plan accordingly. While we were walking around the garden, there were 4 other groups of people who came not knowing that the inside tours had to be reserved.
This time, I'm scoring the outside only, until I make another trip. We definitely did enjoy the medicinal garden outside the museum for good couple of hours. There are so many plants with signs that explain their healing properties. It's a beautiful and well kept garden. There's so much in depth information too. I got some ideas for my garden at home.

Such a cool place! The tour cost $10 per adult. It’s a neat little historical pathological department tour, as you can get pretty close to historic artifacts. The tour-guide was very informative, answered everyone’s questions, and encouraged conversation. Masks are currently mandatory, and limited on how many people per tour group. Definitely recommend!
Jeff Corns
Interesting part of Indiana history. There is a medicinal garden on the grounds that are intriguing to walk around before or after the guided tour. The facility has an interesting past and they have lots of photos to help tell the story of the building and grounds. You might also be lucky enough to spot the local woodchuck, Larry.

This is my second trip here. This time I brought a friend. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and intelligent, I am bummed out the smaller building wasn’t available to view, but understanding of the reason (none having to do with the staff or Museum) if you are in the area, this is a great museum. Small, but packed with tons of medical knowledge and patho knowledge. It’s worth it to visit. Our tour lasted about 1 hour.
Freya Austheim
Went here with my boyfriend, this was a super fun and informative experience. I loved seeing all the different rooms, the tour guide was very cool, charismatic and knowledgeable, and had awesome hair! I would totally recommend it for anyone interested in old stuff and history/medical history!
lovely cat
Really, really cool museum with a lot to see and learn. Would not recommend for children, individuals sensitive to anatomy or like history/topics. Museum has stairs to enter and stairs to 2nd level.
Tessa Russell
Grown up in Indiana and never knew this place existed until a few days ago. Reminds me of the history/architecture of Ellis Island! Staff giving the tour were very knowledgeable and friendly. Definitely a must see for travelers/Hoosiers alike!
Michael Lee
What a great little find. It was interesting and educational. Our tour guide was nice and intelligent. I would definitely recommend

Real pretty, didn't get to go inside unfortunately, bring a mask and call ahead! They're scheduling tours. There's a historical medicinal herb/plant garden outside with plaques explaining their uses and risks of use, it was nice to walk about and read. Hoping to hit it another time to see the wonders inside.
Zachary Frieben
What an awesome museum! It's like you're in a time capsule! Seeing the way they treated patients back then both physically and mentally is really interesting. If you like history you'll really enjoy this place, and seeing the original medical tools/equipment is really cool.
Maria D (mcspears22)
This place was really cool. Our tour guide was very informative. It's amazing how medicine and science has changed over the years.
Julie Grace Immink
Human skeletons, jarred organs, and an iron lung for infants are on exhibit. The educational museum is located inside the pathology building of the former “Indiana Hospital for the Insane.” Visitors can sit in the same wooden chairs where live autopsies were demonstrated to students in the amphitheater. There are six laboratories to tour, including a room where microscopes are placed in front of large windows because the reflected sunlight once illuminated the examined brain cells of former patients.
J M
Very cool. Lots of history of medicine, pathology and mental health treatment. Highly recommend, worth a detour. Make sure to schedule a tour, prior to arrival, appts are limited related to Covid.
Briana Villanueva
I wanted to give this place 5 stars so bad. I was pretty let down and unimpressed. They could have done SO much better with the tour. There is so much potential for this place, the artifacts and exhibits are so incredible! The woman who let us into the building was so kind! With that being said - the tour is rushed, they don’t let you wander around on your own, you have literally no time for pictures or anything like that. And while our tour guide was very nice, there were times during the tour when he literally was like “I have no idea what this is called or what this is used for”. we were shoved out the door as soon as the tour was over even though we were told we would be able to look through the museum portion afterwards on our own. I asked for a picture in the auditorium at the end and there was another tour guide in there and she was SO rude about it all. It was upsetting.
Holly Garringer
Highly recommend this museum! The place is small and the tours do not take very long, but there is a lot to see and hear. I have been 3x and I learn something new each time. You will need to make reservations as it is operated by volunteers.
Sarah L.
A nice activity for an hour, I recommend this museum for anybody who can stomach it. It's not gross but there are things (like brains, child skeleton, etc) that might not suit everyone. Our guide was nice and I felt she let us explore the rooms with adequate timing. $10 to get in and they have a small parking lot northwest of the building. Small but with enough parking. We walked up to the steps 2 min before the hour and were let in after she unlocked the door. They accept credit card. Very informative tour! I will definitely be coming back with visitors!!
Lauren Palfi
It was so interesting I would love to go back! The person giving the tour was great and very knowledgeable. Please go if you can and donate! The people that work there are volunteers!
Michelle Sweeney
Very interesting. Bob was our tour guide and he had extensive knowledge. I honestly did not want to go but I enjoyed it.
Sarah Hartman
Warning: tours start on the hour, and you cannot get in until ten minutes before! The museum is on the grounds of the Indiana state mental institution. This is the building where research and autopsies were actually done. Including a theater with original chairs than you can sit in. The tour was about an hour and the guide was very knowledgeable and took adequate time in each room. Very enjoyable. Real brains in jars!
Selena B.
Essentially a museum of pathology, not all Indiana medical history. They offer guided tours only. On the hour, every hour.
Our guide did not share much about the items in the room and kept saying things like "don't ask me about [something] because I do not know anything about it". Not the best quality in a guide.
But the volunteers were friendly and the information we learned (by reading) was interesting. It was overall a cool place to check out for an hour.
Bryan Henchey
If you have any interest in the history of medicine, this is a must see if you're in the area. I was surprised at just how much I learned. The person providing the tour (which starts on the hour) was very knowledgeable in regard to the building and its history. There really is a ton to see in the hour long tour. If you're a Pearl Jam fan, make sure to check out the original copy and order form for the Vitalogy book.
The only issue I had, and the reason for 4 stars instead of 5, is that there is so much to see, an hour almost isn't enough to see it all. I consistently felt rushed when moving to a new room, and kind of had to lag behind to snap pictures without having someone standing in the photos. Overall though, it was an excellent tour.
Heidi Mayo
Something this size could take one visit, but I've been twice now (with kids 10, 11, 15 the second time) and I loved it just as much. It's interesting to know where we were in history and where we are now. I visited more of the grounds years ago, but the buildings are pretty much in shambles now. It's pretty cool to see them though.
Katie B (Kat)
One of the coolest museums I've ever been to, but I'm entering the pathology field, so I may be biased. Very unique and a lot of U.S history here. Definitely worth seeing if you're in the area.
Samantha Hathaway
Oldest pathology building still standing in US (second oldest overall). Interesting brain specimens with tumors and other pathologies from people in the nearby hospital for insanity. It is a guided tour with more general information, rather than specific advances made by the doctors that worked there. If you have a science background its interesting to see how much and how little has changed (which could have made the tour more interesting to touch on i.e the machine they used to slice small sections in wax for closer exam is very similar to what is used for frozen sections from samples during surgery)
Becka J
Fantastic place!! Most historically intact medical mark I’ve ever visited! Worth the trip. Super cool, glad it still exists. Better than most museums in the area.
Angel Williams
This place is awesome!!!! I had no idea of the amount of history sitting in Indianapolis. What is great is the amount of items that are original not only to the era but the actual building. There are some creepy things too, which made the tour that much cooler. Wierd Science🎵🎵🎵 …
ML Character
Currently you need to buy your ticket to a specific tour time in advance and wear a mask. This comprised stop 2 of my impromptu Gothic Indy private tour (after the Catacombs of the Indy City Market) and it pretty much delivers on interesting, weird old stuff. Be ready for skeletons and so, so many brains. Like, so many brains in formeldehyde. If it sounds interesting to learn about mental illness and the search for its causes and treatments in the past, then come on down.
Rachel Tankersley
This museum was so, so intriguing! Frances was an excellent tour guide and all of the artifacts and items in this beautiful museum were absolutely fascinating to see up close. If you're in Indianapolis, go to this museum. It is well worth it.
Normandy Halvorson
We had a fabulous intern lead our guided tour. He was knowledgeable and kind to answer all our questions. The museum is one of the better treasures of Indianapolis deserving of its historical status and efforts of preservation. The medicinal gardenbis so plentiful could also have a tour associated with it.
Joanna J
The IMHM is a quaint spot off the beaten path but so interesting! It was really cool to see all the exhibits, and to see how work on mental health issues began. The anatomical museum was fascinating and very informative. Outside, there are cool examplea of medicinal plants. Overall, this was a very enjoyable experience!
T. J. Hart
Interesting place. Old medical teaching facility with old medical equipment still on display. Also has a lot of different diseased brains in jars. Kinda creepy. Might not be the best place for a first date but with the right person it’s an amazing date.
Vic Noël
I've put off writing a review for lack of words to describe how wonderful this tour was. Just go and take the tour. There's no way anyone could leave disappointed!
Patrick Hoagland
Interesting history lesson, the museum was closed up and left operational and reopened as a museum. Our guide actually used some of the extremely outdated equipment when he was in school many years ago. It's like stepping back in time.
illona lipovsky
Interesting place. You could imagine how medical practice evolved. From microscopes to body cages. Pretty garden surrounding the building. Central State hospital grounds now all condos.
Gabe Ramirez
Very informative tour. You will learn a lot of history about this old building and the things done in it. Check it out if you are in the area and have some time to spare.
Zan Jones
How is this place not INTERNATIONALLY known? Fascinating history of pathology, the diagnosis and treatment of mental illness and much more. If you are near/in Indy, do NOT miss this! Tour is appropriate for med and non med alike.
Kevin Sparks
Very understated place, well worth visit.
Dave Meeker
After a 20 year wait, I was able to see the interior and learn about the fascinating history of pathology.
L A
Great information. An awesome look at that point in history! Will definitely go back once the medicinal gardens are in full bloom.
Angela Davis
I went into this tour with the lowest expectations, as a friend purchased the tour for a group of us. As someone in the science field, this museum was pretty cool. The building has a lot of history, and contains an assortment of interesting scientific gadgets and equipment from years ago. More interestingly, there are a lot of brains to examine. The staff were so kind, and answered all of our questions throughout. Overall, this museum was a pleasant surprise.
Shannon Fells
This is a great guided tour. You must schedule in advance and it's 100% hands off.
Scotty 2 Hotty
What an awesome place! I didn't know what to expect, but the tour guide was super knowledgeable and answered any question we had. Highly recommend it to anyone with an interest in unique spots to see!
Westin Williamson
Staff and volunteers were very helpful and friendly. So much history in one building.
Ying Liang
Very cool place to check out! It’s the oldest surviving research laboratory in the US. Planned ahead and got a ticket for a tour (definitely recommend you go this route in case all spaces are booked, walk-ins are currently not allowed). You get to travel back in time and learn about the facilities, the people, and the research that was conducted. A very informative and interesting way to spend an hour. There’s also a medicinal garden outside for you to check out afterwards. I learned a lot and would recommend you try this museum if you’re stopping by.
Emily Fields
Not really all that we were expecting. It is a nice place to visit, but definitely one that you only visit once and then don't return to.
Jessica Lynn
The garden is lovely. The woman that answered the door was nice. Seeing the interior of the building is by appointment only.
Cady Bequeret
I loved visit this place. So much beautiful history packed into this small building. Our tour guide was so friendly and knowledgeable. We will be back and will bring family.
Andrew Okerson
This is one of the coolest places I've toured in Indiana. Our guide took us all around for over an hour. She provided great detail and historical context to the facility. Very interesting.
Tj Blankinship
My wife and I really enjoyed our time here. Hailey was our tour guide and she was amazing.
M Riley
We took the guided tour with Kerri as our guide. Fascinating history of the grounds and the progression of mental health facilities in general. Seeing the beautifully preserved instruments, furniture, records, and medical samples really added to our understanding. Kerri was a stellar guide and clearly has a passion for the information. Pleased to see the focus on humanizing the patients and their stories rather than a show of oddities or scare tactics. Recommend to anyone.
Jame Thompson
This was a fascinating place to visit after hearing creepy stories about it growing up. It was fun to learn the real history of this place. I took two teenagers over spring break where we explored our own city. They were not disappointed. I do think that the could really do a lot more with the place to expand visitation time and explore more about it, but I'm sure time, money and voluntary resources are limited. This is a great "spooky" Indiana stop!
Zachariah Schrink
The Indiana Medical History Museum was a ton on fun! We quite enjoyed the guided tour and the guide had a LOT of amazing information about how patients were treated here vs most places in the US.
One of the first rooms has skeletons, slices of preserved brains, lungs, and several other organs.
Getting to see the progression of medical technology was also pretty interesting. From microscopes that used the sun or a candle for their light source to a hand-cranked centrifuge; fascinating!
Maria Alvarez
One amazing historical medical museum! Oldest pathology building in our nation.
Ashley Towal
Took my kids 12 and 14 and this was their favorite part of the weekend. Great history lesson.
Kate Neary
I've been twice. the first time was a few years ago and it was really informative and interesting. The guide offered insight into how the asylum was run and a lot of history. The current tour had a lot less information provided thru the tour, but still a good time and I would recommend stopping by. the area on the grounds of the former Central State is really being built up and there's a coffee shop nearby.
Ronni Denton
I love the fact that everything is so well preserved but I think the tour guides are misinformed. They seem to be making Central State out to have been an amazing place for patients but we all know different.
Louis van Belle
You must go to this place. A rare historical gem! A chance to get up close and see medical history from 100 years ago.
Ryan Thuftedal
Very interesting tour!!! Would definitely do again to see all the unique items! The ladies conducting the tours and greeting you are amazing and knowledgeable about the history of the museum and able to answer questions and provide a good history lesson all while having a good time! Thank you ladies for a great visit!
Aaron Estevez
There's so much history in this place! It's a great deal for the $10 admissions. There's also discounts for students with ID and seniors. The tour takes about an hour, and you can't hangout in the museum ahead of time, so be aware of that if it's a hot day. They also have a free garden tour on Saturdays at 11:00 AM during the summer, and that's really interesting. Free parking too.
Kylie Leitenberger
Amazingly interesting! Great for school medical field trip. There are a lot of cool artifacts and stuff left there from before there was a museum made of it
Fletch
This museum has tours that last almost exactly one hour. It is the cheapest museum I have ever been to. With probably the most knowledgeable hosts of any museum I've ever been to. Now they can't answer all of your questions, but if they can't then they usually write it down and find someone who can cuz that's exactly what they did to me when I went here a year ago. I took a friend here just the other day and it was just as awesome of an experience. They've got the stories of the patients, not just the medical descriptions. This place could very easily entertain you for days on end, and it truly saddens me that the tours can only be one hour long. I also recommend going there over the summer because the medical garden is also very interesting. They've got every plant in there labeled with common name, scientific name,
Suzy Stevens
Very cool time capsule of a medical school. A must see if you dare.
Reginald Kearby
I loved learning the history of this building. The expirence was amazing and the people were lovely. Our tour guide took time to explain each detail and was patient with our questions. The artifacts were great. Overall a good trip.
Van Games
Mums and I loved this [affordable] tour, they didn't oversell or over dramatize the history, which we appreciated. It was a fun look into the history of indiana medicine/ treating mental conditions. Would have definitely liked to hear/see more about the grounds apart from the last building standing. This was a great day activity, go if you're in the area.
Rachel Ward
If you like medical history, or history in general, you will enjoy this museum. It's jam packed with things to see and hear as you are guided through a tour of the facility. The pricing is unbeatable as well at only $5-10 per person (the $5 is with a student discount). Tours start every hour on the hour. The only thing I can possibly complain about is that the content of the museum rarely changes, but this isn't much of an issue as there is so much detail that repeat trips are still enjoyable because you can still learn more and see new details.
Ashley Taylor
Don't miss out on this place. This is one of the best museums I've ever visited!
Penny Marie
Strange, delightful, spooky, humbling. Loved the tale of the rich history. Tours start on the hour for $10 ($5 students with ID)...come a little early and you’ll get to look around at a bunch of human brains. There’s stories about each human. That was the stuff that kinda “hits home” and gave me creepy feels. Loved the medicine bottles! Neat neat neat.
Kelsey Martin
Excellent museum. They pretty much had to drag me out. Not very appropriate for children, as it's catered to a somewhat more intellectual audience. It's not hands on but there's tons to look at and you can walk around the rooms freely for the most part. Since it's on the old grounds of Central State, it's got a heavy psychiatric influence, but it goes well beyond the history of the hospital. Highly recommended for anyone in interested medicine, mental health, or the biological sciences as a profession or simply as an interest.
Justin Baker
This museum is small but packed full of awesome information. The venue was rented out for a Chthulu based event, but it was staffed with a docent in every room that could better explain the objects you were looking at. The displays are varied and in depth. For a small museum it is just packed with historical objects.
As a venue the setting was just amazing for what we were doing, it would work well for murder mystery parties, fundraising mixers, etc.
Sunshine McCarthy
Limited hours but worth the effort . The docent was informative and had interesting stories.
Krista Hansen
This place was fascinating! Our guide Doug, was so knowledgeable and it was really nice to read the humanizing stories that went along with the specimens. So many neat things to see and beautiful old furniture and history. 10/10 would recommend.
Logan Rumbaugh
Fabulous museum off the beaten path. Inexpensive and unique, mandatory guided tour helps you get a lot more out of this visit than you'd expect. Be aware however, that tours begin on the hour and they won't let you in the building until 10 minutes or less before the tour begins. Easy to get to on both the IndyGo 3 & 8 buses. If you haven't been, I highly recommend it.
Jordan Rhude
My wife and I stopped in for a tour today and had a great time. Our tour guide David was really good and very knowledge. Tour takes about an hour and they leave on the hour. Very unique bit of history!
Anna Laws
This museum is amazing! Someone who is interested in any area of the medical field or psychology, or just loves the neat, different and rather unique hidden places will love it here. The guided tour allows for enough time to explore the room and look at items for a few minutes after the guide explains the purpose of the room and the highlighted areas. The museum contained both items donated and items origional to the pathology building apart of what was once Central State Hospital. I would definitely recommend and return!
Joshua Birkmaier
Super cool and educational. Would absolutely recommend
Chris C.
This place is a hoot! Simply lousy with medical artifacts from a terrifying time not too far into our past. We went at noon on a Saturday, and had roughly 10 people in our tour group (the guide said it was a large group, but we were able to navigate the space well). Our guide was funny and well informed, and the artifacts on display were incredibly enthralling! If you have any interest in medicine, history, or the horrors of the human body, this is the place for you. Highly recommended.
C Pawl
Tour guide was amazing and so knowledgeable
Andrew Stucky
Such a cool location. The tour is great and very informative. We loved visiting this Historical Museum. It is such an underrated museum with a rich history and I really wish that it would receive more attention. During the summer they show old movies on a screen in the auditorium.
John Ferreira
Awesome museum with a ton of history. Well preserved items, great price, super educational.
Tours happen on the hour, but make sure you’re there a bit early. Groups of 12 are brought in, if the group is full you’ll have to wait another hour.
Rebekah Cotner
I think the guided tour makes this museum worth it! With their knowledge the rooms come alive and there’s more understanding of context. My sister and I really enjoyed all the history of the building and medical era in time.
Gabby Taurins
It was an amazing place and was very interesting. The tour and the tour guide were both very informative and they even made a few jokes which i laughed at. It was such an amazing experience to see parts of organs and to understand how this place worked during the 1890's.
Whitney
A must visit! Everything here is preserved from 1895 down to the chairs in the auditorium. A fascinating history told by enthusiastic tour guides.
Melissa Sheldon
Very interesting exhibit! Our guide was a retired physician, so he was able to impart some professional knowledge as we toured. Displays of preserved human brains from various ailments. It was a glimpse into the early pathology. No touching - not a good place for young children that are unable to control themselves. Outdoor garden displays medicinal plants that are labeled with info about previous usages.
Andrew Noonan
Awesome museum for anyone interested in history, medicine, or the slightly macabre. The building site is packed with local and national history, and the exhibits are world-class. Definitely worth exploring, whether you are visiting the city or are a local looking for some adventure.
Anderson Mayfield
I don't usually go out of my way to review non-food/booze spots, but I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to the Indiana Medical History Museum today. I should preface this by saying I am a scientist with an interest in the macabre; a non-scientist who does not get a kick out of seeing pickled, cancer-ridden brains of insane people may not have quite the same experience as me, and I feel strongly I enjoyed the tour more than the other 6-7 people in our group. That being said, the presentation is interesting, the guides knowledgeable, and you will really see how far medical science has come over the past 100-150 years. They have some scientific and medical equipment I have only ever heard of, but never seen in person (e.g., an iron lung, an old-school brain dissector, and more), and they have a cool garden with medicinal plants. Not suitable for little kids: not because it's boring but because there are too many priceless objects for them to inadvertently run into! As mentioned by others, the hours are very limited, especially for working stiffs (of which I am not one), but it's well worth an hour of your time if you can make it between 10:00-3:00 on a Saturday (or the same window on Thurs. or Fri.).
Violet Grimm
Loved this place! Beautiful building, awesome specimens, phenomenal history. I really want to visit again, hopefully during the seasonal garden time. Dave did a great job with the tour too.
Nathan Loper
Absolutely amazing history and amazing tour guides. Our tour guide Katie was very knowledgeable and a great speaker. The building is beautiful and is full of history everywhere you look.
Bette Maners
Most was boring. The things patients swallowed was VERY interesting, but our guide kept her hand on the drawer and rushed us through it. Some people in our group didn't even have time to get a glance. I would loved to have been able to see that for more than 10 seconds.
Britney Loller
I have visited this museum twice, one time about 7 years ago & once recently. This museum doesn't get enough credit. I love the guided tour. I only wish there was more to see!
Sarah D
It would be great if the museum was open for people to wander through it or do tours in half hour intervals. We missed the tour time by a couple of minutes and had to leave because we couldn't wait an entire hour for the next one.
Cassie M
Super cool
Ashley Zappia
Very cool! As someone who works on laboratory medicine, it was really interesting to see how the same type of testing was performed in the past. The volunteers at the IMHM have done a fantastic job in preserving a time capsule of a medical diagnostic laboraroy. I would highly recommend to anyone who works in medicine or has children/students who are considering going into the medical field. My husband who is not in the medical field also really enjoyed our visit, so if you just enjoy science and are looking for a fun afternoon, it is an excellent place to visit.
Rheannan Shaieb
My boyfriend took me here for our first date. Very interesting if your into anything related to the brain or medical field. Garden tour in the morning is fun, and the tour guide is very sweet.
Evanna Singh
Our tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. She made an already fascinating museum even more awesome! I highly recommend this museum to anyone interested in Indiana's medical history.
Craig Anderson
A unique part of indiana. Not for the VERY easily queasy. But still neat. Buy tickets online. No walk-ins
Matt Krych
It was very cool to walk around this building. Most everything is in tact and just as it was before. I think the tour could have been more detailed and more organized. The tour seemed very slow paced to me.
Leslie Risch
Had a great time today at the Medical History Museums in Indianapolis! Everything there is still from the time the Building was in use. Our guide had a lot of knowledge and it is totally worth the entrance fee!
Dylan St. Clair
One of the most underrated places to see in Indianapolis. A great tour to learn how much Indiana did for those with psychiatric needs in the early 1900s. Katie did a great job with the tour and we learned so much.
Brian Hammett
Interesting museum on the Westside of Indy. It was enjoyable and informative. A little cramped and hard to see some exhibits due to large crowd. I would recommend for fans of history, medicine, or the macabre. Not for the the faint at heart.
Cindy Perry
Cool museum. It was even better knowing that it was originally a working pathology lab. Lots of original furnishings and equipment. Docent was very knowledgeable and friendly.
Kaiser Zenyatta
Extremely interesting and informative. May be slightly out of the way and in a "bad neighborhood" for some, but we'll worth going to learn about the history of how mental institutions began to develop research into the human brain and into how we should treat those less fortunate.
Darcy Malone
Place is neat. Guided tours are nice. However we went close to close so they wouldnt let us take the time to look around. Go early if you want to take your time.
Samantha Bailey
The medicinal garden tour was very informative and a great experience.
Cody Kramer
This is a great place for field trips it would be best for older kids though as younger kids may find some of the things scary and creepy. The staff is very knowledgeable and make learning fun, they have a lot of neat artifacts,
Lisa M
Very interesting. The tour guide did an amazing job. She explained things well and was open to answering all our questions.
kelsey oleson
Happy that I came across this on my vacation. Staff was full of information and let us ask plenty of questions. Lots of the old equipment, records, chemicals, and books from when the hospital was functioning are still there and helped to paint a full picture.
Jessica Sparks
Well worth the time and money! A valuable piece of Indiana history
Megan McCullough
Fascinating place with knowledgeable guides. It's not huge, but there's a ton of history packed into the small space.
Bob Bierman
Great value. Our guide was very able in explaining the relevance of the building/pieces, and most of the rooms had typed up displays for extra detail/information.
Scott Sterling
The tour was ok. They only let in a few people at a time, each hour. We had to wait an extra hour to get in. There wasn't much to do in the local area so we basically sat in our car and waited. Not sure it was worth the wait. The materials inside felt lackluster and not exciting.
Michelle S
Wonderful tour, I highly recommend a visit. We learned a lot about the history of pathology and was surprised to learn how progressive it’s doctors were in a time where mental illness was misunderstood and unethically treated. Thank you for the tour David!
Jason Ginzkey
A little off the beaten path but if your interested in medical history it's a great little tour to kill a few hours. It's is located on the former grounds of a mental institution. They also have a garden with the former and current uses of the plants there.
John Lieurance
I've been to many museums and this is a rare and special place. Beautifully preserved building and furnishings for over 100 years. A chance to see state-of-the-art medical science as it was in 1895.
Amy
This place is awesome!!! It was a great learning experience for me and they got a lot of cool stuff from back in the day.. hopefully soon I can visit again with my friends.. I definitely recommend going
Darrelle S.
Wonderful experience. If you're looking for an educational and interesting tour, this is your place and worth your time!
Stephanie K
